Provided By Suzanne

Charlie: They're all out to get me. They've got nothing. They can't stop me. They can't take what's mine. No, never. I won't let them.

[Knock at door]

[Dramatic music]

Don't shoot.

Ava: Hey. Well, good morning.

Rafe: Morning. Thought I smelled something. Scrambled eggs.

Ava: Yeah, well, actually these are, uh, uova strapazzate alla fontina.

Rafe: Whoa. Quite the cook, huh?

Ava: Eh, I'm italian.

Rafe: Delicious.

Ava: Hmm? You take cream and sugar?

Rafe: Mm-mm. Black's fine. Look, you don't have to go to all this trouble, you know?

Ava: Hey, well you let me stay here. I mean, plate of eggs doesn't really make us even, but I am grateful.

Rafe: Yeah. So is your bed comfortable?

Ava: Very.

Rafe: How come you didn't sleep in it then?

[Soft dramatic music]

John: Morning.

Marlena: Morning. I made you a pot of tea. It's a fresh pot. I threw out the pot I made for you last night. After you left.

John: Right.

Marlena: Right. All right. Are we going to talk about what happened last night?

[Tense music]

[Bright music]

Ciara: Ben? Oh my god, ben. Is that really you?

Ben: It's me.

Ciara: Are you really here?

Ben: Yes, it's me. I'm sorry it took me so long to get here, but I'm here now and I'm going to get you out of here.

Ciara: I thought I'd never see you again, but you found me. You finally found me. Ben!

Ben: Ciara!

[Downbeat music]

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

[Gloomy music]

Evan: Brought you gruel.

Ciara: I'm not hungry.

Evan: Oh, come on. You must like it. There's a five-pound bag in the kitchen.

Ciara: I don'T.

Evan: Bet you like the way I make it. Little maple syrup, some brown sugar.

Ciara: You sure you didn't spit in it?

Evan: [Scoffs] What is your problem?

Ciara: What do you think?

Evan: I'm trying to be civil.

Ciara: You want me dead. But you know what? It's not going to happen because ben is going to rescue me.

>Claire: Dad, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to freak you out last night. No, I know that I shouldn't have just taken off like that. It's just that I needed to speak to allie and I knew that you wouldn't let me go because of what happened with charlie. No, I'm home. I'm perfectly safe. No one can hurt me.

[Door slams] Think you're managing your moderate

Claire: Hold on, dad. Hello? Who's there?

[Sighs] Don't worry, dad. It's just ben. Yeah, I love you too. Bye.

Ben: I am sorry. I did not mean to scare you. I was knocking, nobody answered, and I remembered I still had ciara's keys, so.

Ciara: It's fine, it's fine. What's--what's going on?

Ben: I was just kind of hoping maybe we could talk.

Ciara: Yeah, of course. What about?

Ben: I had the strangest dream.

[Soft dramatic music]

Evan: Your knight in shining armor is going to sweep you on his trusty steed and carry you off on into the sunset?

[Scoffs] Is that a fairy tale you cry yourself to sleep with?

Ciara: I had a dream and it was real.

Evan: A dream? A real dream. Wow.

Ciara: Yeah, it was more of A... a harbinger.

Evan: Big word. You get it out of that book?

Ciara: Ben is looking for me and he's going to find me.

Evan: Only one problem with that, toots. Ben thinks you're dead.

Ciara: [Scoffs] Yeah, like hell he does.

Evan: What's that supposed to mean?

Ciara: I called him.

Evan: You don't have a phone.

Ciara: Mm. Yes, but rhodes did, and he was stupid enough to leave it behind. So I called ben.

Evan: What if you did? It's not like you know where you are.

Ciara: That doesn't matter because ben is going to find me.

Evan: Is that what he promised when he heard his wife's voice from beyond the grave? Don't keep me in suspense. What did your grieving husband say?

Ciara: [Chuckles] There was a bad connection, but I told him it was me. He heard my voice and I told him that I loved him. And he's looking for me right now. I know he is.

Marlena: Your blood pressure was high, so I brought you home to rest. You left without a word. I called you. I texted you. Nothing.

John: Sorry.

Marlena: I was frantic. I was afraid that you might have had another aneurysm while you were driving. I nearly called the police.

John: Um.. doc--

Marlena: Doc! And then you stroll in here like there was nothing wrong, like nothing had happened. And then you walked past me and you went to bed without saying a word. I don't know, I guess you didn't want to talk about it. Guess what? Now we're going to talk about what happened.

Ava: Of course I slept in my bed. I got up early to get the eggs. But if you have a problem with your house guest making their bed, then I won't do it again.

Rafe: No, no. I'm sorry. But...

Ava: Hmm?

Rafe: What?

Rafe: Must be a cop thing, the suspicion.

Rafe: It was just a question.

Ava: Mm. A question you thought you already had the answer to, which is that I didn't sleep in my bed. Where'd you think I was?

Rafe: I thought you went to see charlie.

Ava: Why would I go see charlie?

Rafe: Because you were worried because he had threatened tripp.

Ava: Yeah, and you told me that you station two cops outside tripp's place, right? So he would perfectly safe.

Rafe: Mm-hmm.

Ava: Mm-hmm.

Rafe: But you, you're ava vitali, so you can understand why I was worried that you may have taken matters into your own hands. You're strong.

Ava: I will admit, I feel somewhat responsible for the horrible things that charlie has done.

Rafe: Why do you feel that way?

Ava: Because he grew up without love. At least from me.

Rafe: Mm.

Ava: You know, unlike tripp, who was the child of my heart, you know, patch's--steve's son. But I lost steve and, um... my father took tripp away from me. And then I just lost myself. What was my father's solution to that, huh? It's find me a new man, right? And so he did. He sure did. Enter jimmy giacomo.

Rafe: Oh.

Ava: Yeah, he was one of my dad's guys from his crew.

Rafe: Ah.

Ava: You know, a sweet guy, sweet guy. He was always trying to cheer me up. He brought me presents, he wined and dined me. And one thing led to another and I ended up pregnant. So my dad thought, "well hey, everything is great now, right? New man, new baby. She's going to be good as new."

Rafe: Guessing it didn't work out that way?

Ava: No, not so much. I was just still really numb, you know, from losing tripp and patch. You know, I basically sleepwalked through my entire pregnancy. When they put charlie into my arms, I... I didn't feel a thing. My dad standing outside when I left the hospital, he's got his camera and he's all, "smile big! Smile!" And... all I could think was, "what the hell is wrong with me? What kind of a mother doesn't love her own child?"

John: I'm sorry I walked out the way I did.

Marlena: Okay. An apology is a good start. Where were you? What was happening? I was worried sick.

John: And I never meant to make you worry, sweetheart. It's just that I just couldn't stop thinking about that damn run-in I had with that charlie kid. I'm tell you, doc, he's so damn smug. Telling me that claire was the one that hurt him? I mean come on! After the way he scared her and after what he did to allie there? For him to throw that kind of trash out there like he's the victim?

Marlena: John.

John: No, doc, I just couldn't get it out of my head and it was like my brain just went on autopilot. Next thing I knew I'm behind the wheel of the car and I'm just driving. And I am just driving and I'm just driving, and I didn't stop until I ended up at--[Sighs]

Marlena: Ended up where? Where were you?

John: Ended up at charlie dale'S.

Claire: So ciara was being held prisoner?

Ben: Behind a glass wall inside this room that I have never before, claire. But I'm telling you the details of this dream, they were so vivid, it was so real. I mean obviously it wasn't real. I mean, how could it have been? But it was just what my mind came up with after hearing susan's visions.

Claire: Or maybe you and ciara were sharing the same dream again like you thought you were when you were dreaming about romeo and juliet.

Ben: That's what I want to believe, but... maybe it's just wishful thinking. And now after what your dad and I discovered?

Claire: Oh, what you and my dad discovered? What are you talking about?

Evan: Ben going to find you? How? Power of that epic love of yours?

Ciara: You know, I wouldn't even expect you to understand since you don't know what real love is.

Evan: Shut your mouth.

[Phone rings]

[Sighs] What?

Orpheus: Everything okay?

Evan: Yeah, all good.

Orpheus: Bring me up to speed on our little project.

Evan: [Sighs] So far, exactly as planned.

Orpheus: Rhodes?

Evan: Taken care of.

Orpheus: The girl?

Evan: I think she's warming up to me. My plaque psoriasis...

Orpheus: Kudos on completing phase one. So now we move to phase two.

Evan: What's that?

Orpheus I need you to take some photos of our guest and text them to me.

Evan: What for?

Orpheus: Proof of life. If you can get a copy of today's paper in the shot, that's all the better.

Evan: Proof of life? Why?

Orpheus: [Sighs] Well, I can't very well ransom the girl to her granddaddy if he thinks she's dead, now, can I?

Evan: Ransom?

Orpheus: Keep up, son. I'm going to have a chat with victor kiriakis. If he ever wants to see his precious granddaughter again, he's going to have to facilitate my release from this hellhole.

Evan: That's the plan? I didn't think--

Orpheus: Well, that's the beauty of it. You don't have to think. I'm doing that for both of us. So take the shots and text me the photos asap.

Evan: I don't know.

Orpheus: Well--[Chuckles] It's not like you have a choice, son. Can't very well waltz in here and hand them to me now, can you? So chop-chop.

Evan: Actually, I do have a choice.

Ben: I took your advice. I went to statesville to see vincent.

Claire: Did he tell you anything?

Ben: He's dead.

Ciara: What? What happened?

Ben: Suicide, apparently.

Ciara: No! But he was our only link to ciara.

Ben: Maybe not. I found out that he had a visitor. This guy used a fake name, but your dad ran it through a database to get his real one. His name's allen rhodes. And then we pulled up his mugshot, and get this: The guy has a tattoo of a shark.

Claire: Oh my god. That is exactly what susan said.

Ben: Exactly. So we got rhodes' last known address and we went over there, but he was already gone. Neighbor said he had been gone for months.

Claire: Okay, well did you find any clues at all?

Ben: Box of some of his stuff. Mostly junk. Didn't your dad tell you about any of this?

Claire: Actually, there was a lot going on last night.

Marlena: Okay, okay, so you ended up at charlie's house? What did you do then?

John: I don't know.

Marlena: What do you mean you don't know?

John: I don't know. I know that I was angry. I know I was so angry, I could just feel the rage just boiling inside of me. And just as I was about to get out of the car, I was slammed by this blinding pain in my head.

Marlena: That is what I was afraid of. I-- I was so afraid you would have an aneurysm while you were driving. Is that when you came home?

John: No, I think that's when I blacked out.

Marlena: How long-- how long did you black out?

John: I'm not sure. Not sure. Something woke me up, though. I don't know if it was a notification on my phone, but something did. Then I saw all of your messages and I knew that you had to be worried sick, so I just tried to shake it off. And I figured if I could just--just--just--just-- get myself home and get a little bit of sleep, maybe I'd feel better in the morning.

Marlena: Why didn't you tell me this last night?

Orpheus: What do you mean you have a choice? The hell are you talking about?

Evan: It feels like I'm being used and maybe I choose to not be used.

Orpheus: We're in this together, son. You and I, a team.

Evan: Yeah? Then what do I get out of it? I've lost count of how many asthma attacks I've had.

Orpheus: I told you once I get out of this pigsty, you and I can go anywhere we want, finally. Just the two of us. Some quality time, father and son.

Evan: What makes you think I've changed my mind about all the quality time you want to spend together?

Orpheus: What's gotten into you?

Evan: [Scoffs] My whole life, you've told me I wasn't man enough. That I'd never be a leader. All I was good for was taking orders--your orders. Maybe I don't want to do that anymore.

Orpheus: You're not thinking clearly, son.

Evan: I'm thinking real clear. Ciara blew my life to hell and now I got her right where I want her. Maybe I want to play with her a bit, make her pay.

Orpheus: You're upset because I want to take away your plaything?

Evan: Oh, I'm not upset at all. Because for the first time in my life, I'm in charge. I'm in control and it feels good.

Orpheus: I can't have you challenging me.

Evan: What are you gonna do about it?

Orpheus: Now you listen to me, you ungrateful, little miscreant.

Evan: Gotta go.

Ciara: That was your father, wasn't it?

Evan: [Sighs]

Ben: So you got charlie's confession?

Claire: Yeah, but then my phone rang and he realized that I lied about silencing it, so he grabbed it and saw that I was recording him.

Ben: What did he do?

Claire: He freaked, cornered me. I was so scared. But luckily, my mom came in and threw him out of the house.

Ben: At least you got the confession.

Claire: No, I didn'T. The jerk deleted it.

Ben: Damn, claire.

Claire: Yeah.

Ben: Well at least you got him arrested, right?

Claire: Uh--[Chuckles] Well, since he never actually laid his hands on me, mom didn't think they'd have enough to press charges. But she is going to get a restraining order.

Ben: Well, good. At least now, you'll be safe.

Claire: I'm pretty sure charlie dale isn't going to come anywhere near me again.

John: Doc, if I would have told you about this last night, you would have drug me off to the hospital.

Marlena: Of course.

John: And I wasn't in the mood to be poked and prodded.

Marlena: Mm. But you thought that a good night's sleep would cure everything kind of like a miracle, huh?

John: I do feel a lot better now, yeah.

Marlena: Oh, that's good, that's good. John, if you had an aneurysm, you know what could've happened? You could have had bleeding on the brain. So now we have to go to the hospital and get it checked out.

John: I really don't have a choice in this, do I?

Marlena: No, not at all.

John: Not at all.

Marlena: Let's go.

John: [Groans]

Rafe: Well, that must have been, uh, very hard on you. You were obviously traumatized by what your father put you through.

Ava: Yeah, but I mean that's my excuse for not having any feelings for my baby?

Rafe: No, I'm just saying he put you through hell.

Ava: True. And I suppose the new baby, charlie, was just a reminder of what I'd lost. I mean he was my son, of course. But he wasn't--he wasn't tripp. His father wasn't the man that I loved, and... didn't even think I could barely look at him. Now, I couldn't take care of him, so my father arranged for jimmy to raise him.

Rafe: Wow. Did you get to see him often?

Ava: Jimmy brought him by sometimes, you know. And I acted like what I thought a mother should act like, but charlie could just see right through it, of course. God, I was so cold. I was dismissive. You want to know the saddest part about the whole thing? Poor kid thought it was his fault. Like if he just made himself into the perfect, little boy, then I'd respond to him. You know, I'd throw my arms open and I'd wrap him in them, and I'd be the mommy that he wanted. Never stopped trying, right? Never stopped trying to please me. He's always trying to make me laugh and he would make me little presents and he always made birthday cards. But, I don't know. I just could never-- I could never give him the love that he so desperately tried to give to me. He never stopped trying. He never stopped, even as an adult. He did anything that I asked.

Rafe: Sure, like when you sent him to check up on tripp?

Ava: Yeah, exactly. Which is why it is my fault exactly for what charlie has become. I gave him nothing and I treated him like he was less than nothing. And all he wanted was love. I am the reason that that little boy turned into a monster.

[Dramatic music]

Feeling stressed in your skin?

Clyde: You know, I couldn't help but overhearing your end of the conversation.

Orpheus: Don't you have anything better to do than eavesdrop?

Clyde: You called whoever you were talking to an ungrateful miscreant, which reminded me of the way that I used to talk to my son. Although I probably would have called him a snot-nosed punk or something like that. But you were talking to your son, weren't you? What did he do? Did he sass you? Did he refuse to listen to his daddy?

Orpheus: What does it matter to you?

Clyde: Oh, you know me. I'm a curious fella. And I'm wondering if it has something to do with ciara.

Evan: Don't worry about who I'm talking to.

Ciara: He wants to ransom me, right? Total orpheus move.

Evan: Actually, that's exactly what he wants.

Evan: Well you should totally do it. I mean, you know how loaded my family is. My grandfather would be willing to pay anything to get me back. You'd be filthy rich.

Evan: Some things are more important than money.

Claire: You're a little badass.

Claire: [Chuckles] No, I am the idiot who fell for a guy who raped my cousin. Ben, I had to do something.

Ben: Still, it takes guts, claire. I'm just glad that you're all right.

Claire: It wasn't guts. I was just really, really pissed off. And for once in my life, I decided to channel that anger into helping someone instead of hurting them. Look, allie deserves justice and ciara deserves to come home. So, ben, I will do whatever I can to help you.

Ben: Thank you. We're going to find her. We have to. It's just that these dreams and visions and signs, they're not exactly concrete clues into figuring out where she is.

Claire: This guy came to visit vincent. Is there really no way to track him down? There weren't any clues in his apartment?

Ben: I mean not if you don't count that box of junk that we found. Nothing that would tell us where rhodes is now.

Claire: Are you kidding me, ben? That is exactly how we find rhodes.

Ben: And how do we do that?

Claire: Well, we won't but susan can. Look, maybe if susan touches something from that box, she can tell us where rhodes is. And if we find rhodes, we find ciara.

Ben: Worth a shot.

Claire: More than a shot. But we're gonna need that stuff. Do you still have the box?

Rafe: Hey, you never know. Maybe there can be some healing, right?

Ava: Think it's a little too late for that.

Rafe: Why? Why too late?

Ava: Because I just-- I don't think that charlie is ever going to forgive me for how I screwed up his life. I mean, like, if his anger and his bitterness continue, he's just going to-- he's going to lash out at everyone. "Lash out at everyone." Oh my gosh, that is quite a euphemistic way of saying that he's just going to continue to commit horrible, violent crimes.

Rafe: Maybe if he got help?

Ava: Help? Come on, what kind of help?

Rafe: Shrink, meds.

Ava: Shrink and meds. Yeah, right. 'Cause that's going to turn a sociopath into an upstanding citizen.

Rafe: You don't think someone can turn their life around?

Ava: Of course I do. I mean, come on, look at me. I'm trying to do that myself. But I just-- I have a strong motivation to do that, right? The love for my son, tripp, 'cause I want to be close to him and I want him to be proud of me. Charlie, what's he got? He has no motivation or reason to turn his life around. And he's just so angry. His anger runs so deep, and his hatred for me, for tripp, it--

Rafe: So what, you just-- you just give up on him?

Ava: I'm just facing the reality that the damage that was done to him, it's too deep. And I would really like to believe that it could be reversed, but I don't think it's possible with charlie.

[Phone rings]

Rafe: I'm sorry. I got to take this. Hernandez.

Ava: [Sniffles]

Rafe: Oh, okay. When did this happen? Yeah, okay. I'm on my way. Okay, thanks.

Ava: What is it? Sounded serious.

Rafe: There was an anonymous call. Someone thought they heard a gunshot at, uh--

Ava: At where? At tripp's?

Rafe: No. No, at... charlie'S.

Ava: Charlie's? Oh my god, what's-- I'm wondering what if he--

Rafe: What if he what?

Ava: I don't know, I shouldn't even say it. I just---

Rafe: What?

Ava: I wonder if he killed himself.

Rafe: Why would you say that?

Ava: Because he's lost everything that he's known in the past few days. I mean, claire doesn't want to have anything to do with him, right? He is going to go to prison for kidnapping me and everything he thought about his future is gone.

Rafe: Listen, I'll call you. I'll let you know how it turns out, okay?

Ava: Thank you.

Rafe: Yeah. Research shows that people remember

Orpheus: You know, clyde, it occurs to me that you may be in need of some enlightenment yourself, so I'm going to give you this piece of advice. Mind your own business.

Clyde: This is my business. I intend to get to the bottom of it. Should meditate on that.

Claire: Ugh. No. Just no.

[Chuckles] Oh, well, he does his crosswords in pen. I know, it's not helpful.

Ben: [Sputters]

Claire: Man, you were right. This really is just a box of junk. There's nothing to go off at all.

Ben: I mean there's got to be something we can bring susan to help her get some kind of a vibe. I just don't know what.

Claire: Wait, what's this? "Alice's adventures in wonderland"? I had this book when I was a kid. I loved it. I had the sequel, too, "through the looking glass." It was so good.

Ben: Wait a minute. Can I see that?

[Dramatic music]

In my dream, ciara was reading "through the looking glass."

Ciara: What?

Ben: It looked exactly like this. The same font, the same cover art. Wherever ciara is, she has rhodes' books.

Ciara: Revenge? Is that it? That's what's more important to you than money?

[Chuckles] You know what? If you hate me so damn much, why don't you just do it? Just shoot me. Do it. Get it over with.

Evan: Next time you throw your food, you won't get breakfast. Enjoy your book.

[Soft tense music]

Marlena: Okay, I guess we may as well get comfortable.

John: I'm fine, doc.

Marlena: Well your doctor wants cat scans, so maybe I'll check with radiology and see how long they'll want to have us here, okay? Don't run away while I'm gone, okay?

John: [Smooches] I love you, sweetheart.

Marlena: I love you, too. Just stay put. You promise?

John: Cross my heart and hope-- I promise.

[Soft tense music]

[Soft downbeat music]

[Dramatic music]

Rafe: Oh, my god. Damn.
