Episode #13520 ~ JJ makes a damaging blurt about Jack in front of the press. Abe and Sheila find themselves on the hot seat. Eli and Lani argue over David. Claire lashes out at Tripp.
Provided By Suzanne
Abe: This is absurd! Ms. Watkins and I are not romantically involved!
Jack: You heard it from the man himself. Mayor carver denies having any romantic relationship with his assistant.
Abe: Because there is none! These are baseless accusations.
Valerie: That's right!
Jack: I was hoping you'd say that, because I have proof. Eve, if you'd please do the honors, if everyone would kindly direct your attention to the screen.
[All gasping, muttering]
I'm sorry, dr. Grant. This was obviously a surprise.
Abe: You leave her out of this.
Sheila: This is a hit job. That photo is fake.
Eve: No, what is fake is mayor carver's slick fašade of integrity and honesty. Now, if he would cheat on a woman that loves him...
Eve: How can you trust him to protect, to respect, and honor you? To do what is best for you? People of salem!
Kayla: Oh, what a surprise! Oh, my gosh, we have missed you around here.
Haley: And I have missed you, which is actually why I'm here today. Um... I was hoping that maybe I could get my job back.
Claire: [Sotto] You bitch.
Tripp: Hey, look, I'm really sorry about all of this. Is that your lighter?
Claire: So what if it is?
Tripp: Look, I know you're upset about moving, but please tell me you're not getting back into bad habits.
Claire: [Laughs] No, I am not smoking again.
Tripp: Then why do you have that lighter?
Jack: What do you say, mr. Mayor? What are we looking at here? Fake news or the truth?
Woman: Yeah. No, let's hear it.
Abe: The picture... the picture is real.
Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."
Claire: Jj gave it back to me.
Claire: Well, he took it to the police, and they returned it.
Tripp: Yeah, but that lighter is evidence in the fire that almost killed ciara, so why do you have it?
Claire: Forensics did not find anything. Turns out it's just a lighter.
Eli: You're taking a leave of absence? Why?
Lani: I'm gonna take care of david.
Eli: Ta-- hey, man, is this your idea?
Rafe: Was what my are you and ms. Watkins having an affair? (Roosevelt) my name is roosevelt.
Reporter: Mayor carver, can you comment on the record about the nature of your relationship with your employee? How do you think it will impact your bid for reelection?
Abe: I have no comment, on the record or off the record, so you just get the hell out of my way.
Woman: Okay, then. Yeah, walk away!
Jack: I think since mayor carver has run away from any questions, or this debate, it's only fair to assume that he has no honest answers for the people of salem!
[Cheers and applause]
Sheila: You want a comment? Well, I have all kinds, 'cause it's not what you think.
Reporter: So you're denying there's a relationship?
Sheila: Oh, it was a kiss, one kiss--that kiss, and the mayor didn't kiss me. I kissed him. It was all me. I was wrong, and I'm not proud of it, and I acted inappropriately...
[Crowd jeers] Because sometimes I do that-- or a lot. And because mayor carver is the coolest and most decent man I've ever met, he made it very clear that he was in a committed relationship with dr. Grant.
[Cell phone rings]
Lani: Eli is upset because I've decided to take a leave of absence from the pd and take care of david.
Rafe: Oh, whoa, yeah.
[Laughs] There's no reason for you to make that kind of sacrifice.
Lani: Rafe, this little guy needs all the love and attention that he can get.
Rafe: Okay, and I appreciate everything that you have done to help, but, um, as soon as I get this sling off, I'm gonna be good to go.
Lani: When that happens, I'll come back to work. So I'll take these papers to hope and get her to sign them off.
Eli: Lani, I think you just heard rafe say that he doesn't need your help.
[Quiet plucked music]
Kayla: Well, there definitely was some staff that objected to your employment because of your immigration status, but they were in the minority.
Haley: If it's gonna cause any trouble, dr. Johnson, I-I don't have to come back. I--
Kayla: Are you kidding me? You are one of our most talented and dedicated nurses, and I'm kind of looking forward to working with my... daughter-in-law.
Kayla: You know, I never thought I'd be saying that.
Kayla: But listen, how is married life?
Haley: Oh, married life. Um... well, since I'm really only in the country still because your amazing stepson was amazing enough to marry me, I guess married life is-- is going pretty good.
Kayla: And how's claire handling it?
[Uneasy synth music]
Kayla: You know, when a girlfriend crashes a wedding, she's generally not okay. I mean, I know that she said that she was there to support you and to confirm the story, but, um... I have a sneaky feeling that she's not blessing this union with tripp.
Haley: Claire has been beyond helpful, but... can you blame her for being this upset? I mean, she has to sneak around to see her own boyfriend for god's sake, and now-- now, because of me, she has to move out of the loft.
Tripp: Uh, I'm so sorry.
Claire: You know, it's funny, 'cause you keep saying that, but when haley came up with the bright idea to kick me out of the loft, you were more than okay with it.
Tripp: I never thought it would go this far.
Claire: Yeah, well, it did, so so much for "till deportation do you part."
Tripp: Hey, would you just stop for a second? Look, listen. Okay, look. I love you. I'm committed to you, and I've made a mess of this, and I feel horrible.
Claire: But you're still gonna stay married to haley.
Tripp: We have to see this through.
Claire: For three years? Well, that's just awesome. Three years of us sneaking around and three years of me watching you play house with haley.
Tripp: Now look, I-- we can work this out. I swear to you, okay? Now look, just hang on. Hang on.
Tripp: Just one second, okay? Just, you are so beautiful and talented and-- and sweet. You are the best part of my life. Yeah, maybe right now, we can't--we can't live together, but... that doesn't mean I'm less committed to you, to--to us. Just please, l-- tell me how I can make this up to you.
Claire: Okay. Just make love to me one last time before I go. Wait. Do you not want to be with me anymore?
(Announcer) do you push through migraine?
Haley: The look on claire's face when I told agent smith that she was moving out. I-I felt so terrible... because... because now, it's gonna be much harder for her to be with tripp, and I know she sacrificed so much for me already. So has tripp.
Kayla: As wonderful as i think my stepson is, you had to marry a man you didn't love. You have made sacrifices, too. I mean, you and jj have a certain some-- connection, right? And I don't think that his feelings have changed just because you're mrs. Dalton now.
Haley: I've been so mad at jj for so long, and, uh, I-I realize now how wrong I was. You know, my--my wedding present to myself was-- was to forgive him.
Kayla: So the connection's still there for you, too?
Haley: Yeah, yeah, it is, but it's not like there's anything I can do about it. I mean, jj and I aren't any freer to be together than tripp and claire are.
Tripp: Of course I still want you.
Claire: No, no, forget it. I'm sorry I asked. I'll see you in three years-- or never.
Tripp: Hey, no, no-- wait, you know, you're right. You're right, you're right. I'm sorry, all right? You--agent smith doesn't have a key or anything. It's not like she's gonna bust in on us.
Claire: Oh, oh, well, thank you, but I think I'll skip the mercy sex.
Tripp: No, no.
Tripp: That seem like a mercy kiss?
Claire: Well, I don't know. Could we try it again?
Rafe: Like I said, you've been a huge help, but taking a leave of absence--
Eli: Is too damn much. Rafe don't need you to quit the force to be his full-time nanny. Gabi can help him, or he can hire a nanny or some child care.
Rafe: The whole reason rafe took jordan's son in the first place is because he didn't want him around strangers. Isn't that right?
Rafe: Well, yeah, sort of--
Lani: Okay, so rafe, this is the best solution and it doesn't even have to be a leave of absence. I have a ton of vacation days that I will lose if I don't use it. Don't you think?
[Cell phone rings] Oh. This could be about the case, so I'm gonna let you guys figure this one out. Hernandez. Yeah.
Abe: Oh, val, val.
Valerie: Why did you even chase after me? Obviously, you don't give a damn.
Abe: I just wanted to explain.
Valerie: What else could you possibly say that wasn't all over that screen? Huh?
Abe: The truth.
Valerie: Well, start talking, abe. What in the hell is going on between you and sheila?
Eve: You are the victim here, ms. Watkins.
Sheila: Did you really just say that? I'm no one's victim.
Eve: No, there's no reason for you to defend mayor carver here.
Sheila: He didn't do anything wrong.
Jack: But the picture says otherwise. Now you're free to tell the truth.
Sheila: Will you jackasses get away from me?
Jack: The question-- did mayor carver force himself on you?
Jj: No, abe carver is an honorable, decent man. He would never do something like this. Hell, the only man here who's ever forced himself on a woman is you.

Eli: What about miami?
Lani: What about miami?
Eli: We talked about going there, remember? At doug's place, when I brought miami to you?
Lani: That was amazing.
Eli: You told me you wanted to take me to some of your favorite places, introduce me to your mom. I mean, we both-- we both have vacation days coming. I thought we could take advantage of it.
Lani: I would love that, eli, but... right now, david needs me.
[Cell phone beeps]
Eli: It's the holly jonas case. Look, I don't have time to sit here and argue with you about this. There's another child that needs help.
Abe: There was nothing going on between sheila and me.
Valerie: How could it be nothing if that picture I just saw is real? And don't you dare try to spin it.
Abe: I would never disrespect you with spin. The kiss was real...
Abe: But not--not in the way you think.
Valerie: What does that even mean, abe?
Abe: When sheila came to work for me, I-I was mostly appalled. She was street-smart and rebellious and impossible, and over time, under the pressure cooker of-- of that campaign, I-I grew to see her heart, her generosity.
Valerie: And you fell in love.
Abe: Oh, no, no, no. Not--not at all. We kissed, once, once, and... I don't know. Maybe it was curiosity or loneliness.
Abe: But whatever that was, it--we felt nothing, except it was a mistake.
Valerie: It was incredibly irresponsible for you to kiss your assistant.
Abe: Ah, yes, yes, yes. Yes, it was, and...
[Sighs] I've thought about my actions quite a lot, but I realized that maybe, the reason I was wondering what it would be like to be with someone else... is that maybe there was... a problem between you and me.
Valerie: Oh, don't you dare try to blame me for your kissing your assistant.
Abe: No, no, no. I--believe me, I'm not. This is--this is all on me, but what we have, this... this long-distance thing. I've thought about it a lot, valerie. I'm afraid... I'm afraid it's just not working for me. Can you honestly tell me it's working for you?
Reporter: What exactly did you mean by that? Mr. Deveraux, can you tell me what your son is accusing you of?
Tripp: Claire, claire, just-- yeah, come back to bed. Come on.
Claire: No, I-I should go. Really, I should go.
Tripp: Look, I'm sorry. I know this has gotten way out of control, and it's all my fault. I know that. I never thought about what this would do to us, and I never-- never thought about all the consequences and... I feel so guilty, and I just it was wrong of me to ask you to move out.
Claire: Wait, do you want me to stay?
Valerie: When I accepted the job in D.C., I pictured myself flying back and forth, and you coming to see me every weekend. I guess I was a little too optimistic. I mean, your life is here, and I love... my life in D.C., The life I built there, and I'm really proud of what I've done there.
Abe: Ah, val... I'm so proud of you.
Abe: What you've accomplished. You're an extraordinary woman.
Valerie: Who loves an extraordinary man who lives too far away.
Abe: I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry I hurt you so deeply before we-- we had a chance to talk about this. Can you forgive me?
Valerie: The only thing i ever... thought when I kissed you was how right it was.
Abe: Me, too.
Valerie: Well.... I guess, um, someday, if we're both in the same zip code... so, um, what will happen with your campaign? How will--how will this look?
Abe: Well... well, that's my problem. It's not yours.
You know... we're in the same zip code right now. Would you mind if I-- do you mind if I kissed you goodbye?
Sheila: That didn't look too happy.
Abe: No, no. No, we broke up.
Sheila: I'm so sorry. It's all my fault.
Abe: No, no. Valerie and I--we--we had our own issues.
Sheila: Pfft, yeah, but i made it worse, and now, you may not be reelected mayor because I had this stupid idea of trying to kiss you.
[Scoffs] But you know what? I-I could fix all that. I hereby tender my resignation.
Abe: Like hell you will.
Eve: Look, there is absolutely nothing going on here except a son who's angry at his father, 'cause as you know, jack discovered an illegal immigrant was living at his son's apartment, so obviously, his son is upset with his father because he wouldn't participate in his treason and keep his secret.
Reporter: So there's no basis for what he said about your candidate and husband forcing himself on a woman?
Eve: Well, absolutely not.
Haley: Jj. H--what are you doing here?
Jj: Uh, I heard you're not getting deported.
Jj: That is great news.
Haley: Yeah, can you believe it? Is that why you tracked me down? How'd you know I was gonna be here?
Jj: I came to see my aunt.
Jj: May I speak to you in private?
Kayla: Of course. Uh, I'll be here.
I wanted more from
Claire: Tripp, babe, thank you so much! Oh! I knew you loved me. What?
Tripp: What I meant was haley and I should move out. I brought this down on you, and it's not fair to ask you to move out of your own home, too, so... haley and I will go. You stay.
Claire: No, no. It's fine. I will move out. I'm gonna go stay at pop-pop'S. There's a million empty rooms at the mansion.
Tripp: Are you sure?
Tripp: That's--that's one of the reasons I love you. Ah, you know, this-- this all sucks for you, but instead of just walking away, you step up. You know, you really are stronger than you think. You know that?
Claire: Mm. You want to do what's best for haley, and I want that, too.
Tripp: You are the best.
You know... if you want to...
Claire: No, no, no, no. I mean, you're right. The ice agent could walk in here any minute, and besides, I want to go get, um-- get settled in my new home, so...
Tripp: Ah, here, let me-- let me carry this box for you.
Claire: All right.
Eve: Jack, you were absolutely brilliant!
[Laughs gleefully] The setup, the delivery, big reveal--just magnificent! Gosh, did you see abe's face when those pictures came? Oh, my gosh, it was fantastic! I don't know. I kind of felt a little sorry for, uh, dr. Grant there for a minute, though. Didn't you? I mean, well, you know what? Gotta crack a few eggs, right? Jack. What is going on with you? Come on! We have all but won this election.
Jack: What about what jj said? What about the rape?
Jj: I am sorry. Look, I know that you don't want what my dad did to you to be made public all over again. Kayla, I feel terrible. I...
Kayla: You know, to be honest, I'm actually surprised, given all the media attention, that, uh, it stayed a secret this long.
[Tender piano music] What is it? It's okay. Don't worry about it, all right? Thank you for the heads-up, and, uh, I'll handle whatever happens.
Rafe: How's he doing?
Lani: He just fell asleep.
Rafe: What? In here? That's amazing. Thank you.
Lani: We got a schedule down.
Lani: He's such a good boy, rafe.
Rafe: Well, you're great with him... but I don't want you taking time off of work to take care of him, all right? David's my responsibility.
Lani: Rafe, I have the time, and I want to do it.
Rafe: Yeah, I know. Um... the other thing is-- is eli doesn't really seem crazy about the idea. I don't want david to hurt your relationship, all right?
Lani: We'll be fine. Eli is just being overprotective.
Eli: Hey, mom, I'm sorry i missed your call, but I got your message. What's going on?
Valerie: I'm going back home.
Eli: You just got here! Did something happen with you and abe?
Abe: I'm not letting you go. I need you by my side during this campaign. I need your strength. I need that unique vision of yours. You are not going anywhere.
Sheila: Come on, man. Don't get sentimental on me.
Abe: You're invaluable to me, and I know you're just as attached to me.
Sheila: [Laughs] What are the odds, huh?
[Laughs] That one of the luckiest days of my life, I get caught trying to swipe your credit card-- but not that I was. I wasn'T.
[Jaunty synth music]
And looks like this one may be on mr. Abraham carver.
Abe: That would be me. What the hell are you doing? Somebody parked in my spot. A beat-up '91 chevelle, license plate tlc-4-eva.
Sheila: That would be "tlc for-evah," and, uh, yeah, that would be me. I--
Abe: What? What?
[Coughs] I am so... I'm so sorry. Do you believe me now?
Abe: You finally replaced my shoes.
Sheila: That's the only way to stop you from bitching and moaning about the pair I ruined.
Abe: And lost.
Sheila: Oh, whatever. What are you waiting for? Just open it.
Abe: What-- what the hell are these?
Sheila: Hey, little people. Do y'all want to dance with me? All: Yeah!
Sheila: All right, I got just the thing. Come on, come on, come on. Hey, hey.
[Smooth music playing]
[Laughs] Hey, you too, gentleman.
Abe: Oh, no, no, no.
Sheila: Yeah, come on. You too, you too. Come on, come on, come on. Come on, get up there.
Abe: Oh, well, let's see. What if--what do I-- oh, oh.
[Laughs] Oh. [Laughs]
Abe: [Laughs] Well, good times.
Abe: Now, after all that, how can I let you go?
Sheila: See there, that thing that you do? That's why I'm leaving.
Abe: You're gonna have to translate for me.
Sheila: The fact that you don't want me to resign over that photo, even though it will cost you everything. See, this town needs all that decency of yours, so if I stay, the election will be about that kiss, but if I go, you'll still have a fighting chance.
Abe: Sheila, please.
Sheila: It's not your call, mr. C.. I quit.
(Brian) I'm brian,
Lani: You are the best boy. You know that? You know you need help with him, rafe.
Rafe: Uh, well, I know that I learned a lot about taking care of a baby from you.
Lani: So is that a yes? You'll let me help you?
Rafe: Okay, yes.
Rafe: Thank you.
Lani: Okay. [Laughs] Great, um, I will get this little nugget home, and we'll see you later.
Rafe: Okay. Bye.
Eli: Damn. Mom, I feel awful. I mean, I--I supported abe hiring sheila.
Valerie: No, eli, he says there's nothing going on between him and sheila. Abe and I--we--we had our issues. You know that.
Eli: So it's, like, really over?
Valerie: As much as abe and i loved each other, the distance and the separate lives--it was just too much. I-I just hope that this doesn't come between your relationship with lani.
Eli: Lani and i have much bigger problems than you breaking up with her dad.
Abe: [Sighs] Sheila. Uh, is there anything I can do to change your mind?
Sheila: You're not the boss of me anymore.
Abe: Was I ever?
Sheila: Hey. You know, I should get going, though, and I would give you a hug, but you never know who's watching.
Abe: Oh, I don't give a damn who's watching, or what they think.
Sheila: Thank you.
[Chuckles] You keep wearing those lucky sneakers, mr. Mayor, and don't worry about this election, 'cause if you can win over a hard-case like yours truly, you won't have too much trouble getting the votes you need.
Eve: Jack, what happened with kayla is ancient history. Nobody remembers it.
Jack: I assaulted a woman. Not just any woman. My wife. I raped her. It was made public.
Eve: Jack, the election is tomorrow, and there is no doubt that you are gonna be salem's next mayor. Listen to me. If the story about kayla comes out in the future, you will show your very real, real remorse, okay? And we'll explain your mistake to your supporters.
Jack: I'm not sure that i could even explain it to myself.
[Uneasy synth music]
Reporter: Dr. Johnson, may I have a moment of your time?
Reporter: Can you confirm that in 1988, your then-husband jack deveraux raped you?
[Quiet synth music]
Kayla: Yes. He did.
Jj: Hell, the only man here who's ever forced himself on a woman is you!
Haley: Hey, you okay?
Jj: Yeah, yeah. Fine. Just a lot going on. Oh? It's good to see you. I, uh-- guessing you got your job back.
Haley: Yeah, I did.
Jj: All right. Well, I guess I gotta get out of here. People might see us and get the wrong idea, so... congrats on all the good news.
Haley: Jj, wait. I--it's not all good news. It looks like I'm going to be stuck in this marriage to tripp a lot longer than I thought.
[Tense string music]
