[Soft dramatic music]
Chad: What woke him up?
Abigail: He wants uncle andre.
Chad: What did you say?
Abigail: What do I say? I don't--I don't want to lie to him, but I don't want to tell him the truth either, so...just sang to him till he fell asleep.
Chad: Mm, it's probably the best thing you can do. We'll--when he's old enough, we'll--you know, we'll... we'll find a way to tell him what--what really happened. And when the time comes, we'll do it like we do everything else-- together.
Sonny: Ari, sweetheart, what are you doing up? I tucked you in hours ago.
Arianna: Where's mommy?
I don't like being followed.
Paul: What? Wait, you--you think I was following you? No, no, I was just-- I was taking a shortcut. You know, I'm cutting through here to meet with someone. Unfortunately, he's late. But no big deal, right? I'm gonna-- I'm gonna just take a different path.
Mm, not so fast.
Will: Can't let you do it, john.
John: Do what?
Will: I'm not gonna let you poison steve.
John: You won't let me-- what? [Laughs] Is that what you think I'm doing? You think I'm poisoning my best friend?
Will: Yeah, that's exactly what I think.
John: Oh, come on, will. That's pretty messed up. Where'd you get an idea like that?
Will: From you, actually.
Will: I heard you talk to that guy in the square. And I'm not gonna let you lie your way out of this one. This plan of yours to get rid of steve johnson, it stops now.
Kayla: All right.
Kayla: Steve? Steve! Steve, what is it? Steve! He's not breathing!
Marlena: Call an orderly.
Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."
You weren't cutting through here to meet someone, and we both know it.
Paul: Okay. You're right. I was following you, but don't--don't panic, okay? I'm actually a private investigator on a routine case. Here, I am gonna show you my badge, okay?
Paul: I was only--
I know who you are, paul. You're john black's son.
Paul: Okay. Well, since you know who I am, why don't you fill me in on who you are and what you're up to with my dad?
John: I think you're making too much out of this.
Will: I don't think I am.
John: Will, you don't remember. But I work for an organization known as the international security alliance.
Will: I know what the isa is.
John: That's good, will. I'm glad you do. And I'm sure you also know we deal with a lot of cases, most of which are way over the heads of most civilians. And since you're not operating with all the facts here--
Will: I know this for a fact: You're poisoning your partner and best friend.
John: Once again, because you're not operating with all the facts, I wouldn't stick my nose into things I don't understand.
Will: You don't have to treat me like a child, john. Paul told me about your past, about how stefano used you as a pawn to carry out his missions. Is that what's happening now? Are you somebody's pawn again?
John: You don't even know what you're talking about.
Will: I know that that guy said a few more doses of the poison would kill steve. And I just saw you pour the contents of a vial into this coffee cup and then ask to meet. Is that--are you-- tell me, john. Were you planning on finishing him off tonight?
John: You're making assumptions now, huh?
Will: I thought the isa went after bad guys. But here you are, trying to murder your best friend.
John: Last time, will. Stay the hell out of this.
Will: I wish that I could. I really wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt. I wanted to get to the whole truth before I started accusing you of anything.
John: That would've been smart.
Will: No, it would've been stupid. It would've been irresponsible. This has gone on long enough. I'm calling marlena right now.
Kayla: Come on. You can't leave me. Come on.
Steve: [Exhales heavily] If I'm dead, this must be heaven.
Kayla: Oh, no. You're very much alive, thank god. Thank god.
Steve: I thought I'd lost you, sweetness.
Kayla: I thought I lost you too. All right, I'm gonna let these really nice people get you to a room, all right, and then we're gonna run some tests and we're gonna find out what's the matter with you. I promise.
Steve: Lucky I'm married to the boss.
Kayla: Yeah. I need a gurney and an iv hookup. I need a ekg and a heart monitor, stat. I need you to track his heart rate and his blood pressure, okay? Order a ct scan, an mri. And get the neuro team down here right away. And see if you can find dr. Simpson, all right? We have to figure out what this is... before it's too late.
Abigail: Just doesn't seem fair, does it?
Chad: What's that?
Abigail: I get back everything that I thought that I lost-- you and thomas and our whole life together-- and then the person that made it happen is gone.
[Scoffs] I'm sorry. I keep talking about your brother. I mean, I know you loved him, but I know he made you angry, disappointed you.
Chad: No, I told you, it's fine. It'S... it was complicated.
Abigail: Maybe I'm idealizing him too.
Chad: No, that's-- that's fine.
Abigail: Not really. He hurt a lot of people, including you. And then I go around talking about him like he's a saint. That's not really fair.
Chad: No, it's-- look... you're grieving, and--and I-I hope that-- I would like to think that you know you can talk to me about whatever you're feeling, no matter what it is. I love you, and--and I love that you see the best in people. In fact, that was my favorite quality about andre is that he saw the same thing.
Abigail: Thank you for saying that.
Chad: And... yeah, I mean, there was a lot of people angry with him, but... I--yeah, there was times that I--that I couldn't stand him, but he brought you back to me, and I'll always be grateful for that.
Abigail: You're wonderful. I'm really lucky to have you.
Chad: I'm lucky to have you.
Abigail: I just wish that i weren't so unsure of things.
Chad: What things?
Abigail: Like how to protect thomas and...
Chad: What are you talking about?
Abigail: Like, when he asked me about uncle andre, I couldn't even look at him. I was so emotional. I...
Chad: Of course you were. You're grieving. You just lost somebody close to you.
Abigail: I know. And we're gonna go and we're gonna tell him what happened when--whenever it feels right. I just... wish that I knew more about what happened, because I feel like there are so many unanswered questions right now, and I...
Chad: Well... the police think that they may have, uh-- may have solved one of them.
Abigail: What do you mean?
Chad: Sonny called me, and, uh, it looks like they arrested gabi.
Sonny: Sweetheart, I had so much fun with you today that I asked mommy if you could stay one more night and I could cook you breakfast in the morning, your favorite-- waffles and strawberries. And guess what she said. She said yes! She said yes! Oh! You are the luckiest girl in the world. Do you know why? 'Cause so many people love you.
Justin: Including your grandpa.
Sonny: Including your grandpa.
Justin: Here I am.
Sonny: And you're gonna see your mommy first thing in the morning, okay? Now go give grandpa a hug.
Justin: Come here! Oh!
Sonny: Then I'm gonna go ahead and put you to bed.
Justin: Thank you. Oh. Sweet thing.
[Soft dramatic music]
I don't have to tell you a damn thing.
Paul: My father hasn't been acting himself for a while now. I want to know what you did to him.
[Chuckles] You got this a little backward. You don't get to ask questions, at least not while I'm holding the gun.
Paul: We'll have to do something about that, now, won't we?
What's that supposed to mean?
Paul: Well, what do you know? Here comes my father now.
John: Can't let you do that.
Will: Sorry, marlena needs to know what's going on.
John: Not from you.
- Make social media a two-way conversation in your house.
Paul: [Panting] Start talking.
Or what, you'll shoot me?
Paul: You don't think I will?
I know you won'T. I know all about you, paul. You may have thrown some heat in the majors, but...
[Chuckles] You're not a killer.
Will: John, I think you are overreacting a little bit. There's no need to pull a gun on me.
John: Well, obviously I disagree on that.
Will: I just--I'm just trying to figure out what's going on with you.
John: No. You were trying to call marlena. I can't let you do that. I got to keep her out of this at all costs.
[Cell phone ringing]
Marlena: Hi, uh, john, it's me. Uh, look, I know that you were meant to meet steve, but, uh, he was at the hospital and he--he collapsed. Uh, nobody's quite sure what's wrong. The doctors are examining him now. Look, this looks like it might be pretty serious. Kayla's terrified, understandably. Um, you know what? Maybe you could, uh-- you could come over here. That'd be great. I love you. Bye. Well, how's he doing?
Kayla: Uh, his vitals are good.
Marlena: Thank god.
Kayla: Yeah, well, he's a fighter.
Marlena: So are you.
Kayla: I'm not so sure about that.
Marlena: Well, I'm sure about that. And everybody who knows you is sure about that.
Kayla: Well, thank you for saying that. I know I often appear like I'm strong and resilient, but... I don't really come about it naturally.
Marlena: That makes it all the more impressive.
Kayla: Why, because I have to work at it?
Marlena: Yeah. We all do. You know, there were times when--when I was afraid that john was in terrible danger or the kids were in some kind of trouble. And all I wanted to do was-- was go home and jump into bed and pull the covers over my head and assume, well, the fetal position.
Kayla: [Laughs] I cannot picture that.
Marlena: It's true.
Marlena: What are you thinking?
Kayla: I just wish I knew why this was happening. I mean, a few weeks ago, steve was in perfect health. I mean, not that I wouldn't be still upset to hear of a diagnosis, but at least then, we would know what to treat. You know, is it cancer, lupus, ms, I mean, some other autoimmune disease? But it's just a mystery. So we have no idea how to treat it.
Marlena: Oh, but they're running all kinds of tests to find out.
Kayla: Yes, and they're rerunning the ones that they did before-- the mri, the ct scan, the blood work. I wanted to stay in the room, but they need to sedate him, so, you know, both doctors-- the neurologist and-- you know, simpson and--and-- and rush, the immunologist, they both thought it'd be better if I just left the room.
Marlena: Must be difficult.
Kayla: Yeah. You know, it's funny. I mean, I don't even stop to think about the times that I ask, you know, patients' families to leave the room for the good of the patient. But they ask me to leave, it's a whole other story.
Marlena: It's hard, isn't it?
Kayla: Yeah. Yeah, it is. But I know that they're right. I mean, steve knows me so well. There's no way that he wouldn't see how worried I was. I mean, not that he didn't see the panic on my face when he first came to.
Marlena: No, he didn'T. I was watching him. He was just so glad that you were there with him.
Kayla: Why can't we figure this out? I mean, we're doctors. This has, you know, the label of autoimmune disease, but it doesn't have any symptoms any of the diseases we know. And he's getting worse. He didn't just pass out tonight. He stopped breathing.
Marlena: And you saved him. You did that.
Kayla: I cannot lose him. We just found each other again.
Will: I'm--I'm putting my phone away now. I'm not calling marlena, and I won'T.
John: I know you won'T.
Will: But I-I-I'd still like to know everything that's going on with you and steve and the isa, so...
John: It's too late, will. You already know too much. Let's go.
Will: What? Wait. Go where?
John: Just move. Let's go.
Abigail: So they have gabi on surveillance footage?
Chad: Mm-hmm. Leaving andre's office the night of the murder.
Abigail: Oh, my god.
Chad: And gabi insists it wasn't her, that somebody was, uh, wearing her coat or a coat that looked like hers. But you can't see the woman's face in the video.
Abigail: Okay, well, then the police can't be sure that it's gabi.
Chad: She used her id card to get off the floor.
Abigail: No. Ugh!
Chad: That's not even the most incriminating part. So they found footage where anna was--was visiting andre's office, bringing the urn into it but leaving without it.
Abigail: But I-- but why is that incriminating for gabi?
Chad: 'Cause they also saw, about an hour later, gabi leaving andre's office, and it looked like the lid of the urn was in her hands.
Sonny: I was right, wasn't I? When I told ari she's gonna see her mom tomorrow? Is gabi getting out on bail?
Justin: Well, that's when her arraignment is scheduled. And as I told gabi, I'm gonna do everything in my power to get her released.
Sonny: She's probably going out of her mind. I mean, being back behind bars again is her worst nightmare.
Justin: I know. Not to mention how it might affect you and will.
Sonny: I know. To have ari go through this again-- not having her mom around for god knows how long. And, dad, this time, she's older. This is gonna be much more painful for her.
Justin: Yeah. No doubt.
Sonny: But at least will's back in her life, thank god. You know, she'll have her dad.
Justin: And you, her other dad.
Sonny: That's right.
Justin: Eli was with gabi tonight. He said that he would stay with her all through the night.
Sonny: That's good.
Justin: Gabi's gonna need all the support she can get when she faces the da tomorrow. Trask is like a pit bull when it comes to nailing suspects, especially a possible two-time offender like gabi.
Sonny: Yeah, but--but no murder charges have actually been filed, correct?
Justin: Not yet. Could just be a matter of time.
[Soft dramatic music]
Kayla: I can't stop thinking of everything that could be wrong.
Marlena: You've got to replace those thoughts with something positive. Remember that, you know, when it happened, you were right here and you and steve are both at the hospital and he's--he's getting immediate care.
Kayla: But for what? We don't know. We don't know how to treat him.
Marlena: Maybe these new tests will give us some answers.
Kayla: I don't know, marlena. I have been involved with this almost from the beginning. I have contacted experts from around the country, and we are all at a loss. The blood work is all normal. The scans show no evidence of a tumor or any kind of mass. Maybe this is just one of those medical mysteries.
Marlena: We've got to take it step by step, for your sake and for steve'S.
[Cell phone beeps]
Kayla: What? Oh, it's dr. Simpson. Steve's awake. He wants to see me. Thank you.
Marlena: Of course. I'll be right here.
[Sighs] Why hasn't john called me back?
Will: What are we doing in a cemetery, john?
John: This is andre dimera's final resting place.
Will: Okay, look, I'm--I'm--I'm s--I'm, uh... I'm sorry, john. I should not have threatened to expose you before I had all the facts.
John: No, you shouldn't have.
Will: But the, uh, good news is that we're alone now, clearly, and maybe now you can, um, take the time to explain what you said I didn't understand.
John: I already told you it's too late. Our time for talking is over, will.
Paul: Come on.
[Cell phone buzzes]
John: You know too much.
Paul: Come on, will. Pick up. I know you're there.
Will: I don't get it, john. Why did you bring me here? What are we doing at the dimera mausoleum?
John: Let's go.
Abigail: Oh, my-- chad, this sounds really bad. Okay, so I ran into gabi the night that it happened, and she had said that she wanted to kill andre because he fired her from the company and--and stole the whole thing. But outside of that, no one even knows where she was the rest of the night.
Chad: Apparently she was-- she was out driving.
Abigail: Well, that's not really a strong alibi.
Chad: But it seems like gabi.
Abigail: What do you mean?
Chad: I mean if she wanted to clear her head, she would probably go, uh, take a--take a drive. I mean... don't you think?
Abigail: Yeah, I do, actually. But then--but what about the urn? I mean, that's already been established as the murder weapon. Anna left it in andre's office. But then there's this new surveillance footage that shows gabi leaving with the lid in her hand. How do we explain that?
Chad: I don't--I don't know. I just--I-I-- she insists that she's-- that she's innocent, so what-- you know, what am I-- what am I gonna say? I don'T...
Abigail: What do you think?
Chad: I-I believe her. Don't you?
Abigail: Yeah, I-I do. I believe her.
Kayla: Were you faking?
Kayla: I don't know how you're even awake after those sedatives.
Steve: Oh, I didn't take the last set they tried to give me.
Steve: I don't like the drugs, baby. And I'm getting really sick of all these tests-- all the poking and prodding. Although there was one procedure I didn't mind at all.
Kayla: What was that?
Steve: You gave me mouth-to-mouth. Your sweet lips all over me, baby. As a matter of fact, I'm getting a little lightheaded right now. I think I could use a little more of that.
Kayla: Well, I'm glad to see that your bad-boy self is back. But listen to me. You need to let them finish taking those tests. It's the only way we can rule out what's not wrong with you.
Steve: You really think those tests are gonna tell us anything?
Kayla: Well, that's the point, isn't it?
Steve: What if they can't? I mean, I'm no doctor, but anyone can see I'm getting worse, not better.
Kayla: I know.
Steve: And if they can't figure out why I'm getting so dizzy, I pass out, how's anyone supposed to treat it?
Sonny: I know gabi always felt that trask had it in for her ever since nick's murder case. But--but still, after all this time?
Justin: Trask was not happy when she found out that gabi wasn't going to serve her complete sentence. And now, with gabi threatening to want to kill andre and the footage of her leaving his office with the lid to that urn and the fact that she doesn't have an alibi, it's not looking good for gabi.
Sonny: You know, dad, you're--you're not really instilling confidence here.
Justin: I'm just trying to be realistic. But that doesn't mean I can't handle trask. I've done it before. I can do it again.
Sonny: I'm counting on you to deliver some good news, 'cause god knows we need some.
Justin: Well, then maybe i shouldn't bring up the other reason why I need to talk to you.
Sonny: What other reason?
Justin: I went over your divorce papers. Everything's in order. And I can file them as soon as you give me the go-ahead.
Sonny: And just like that, will and I are...over?
Justin: I'm sorry, son.
Sonny: [Sighs] Ugh, dad. I just-- I just thought that maybe his-- his memory would come back before we finalized the divorce papers.
Justin: I know. I know you were.
Sonny: I was starting to believe, by some miracle, that he was gonna show up here. He was gonna remember everything, our life and our love. But he didn'T. And now I have to face the fact that he probably never will.
Paul: Will. Will!
Will: Why did you bring me here, john?
John: So no one can hear us.
Will: Does this mean you're-- you're finally gonna tell me what you've been up to?
John: God love you. You don't get it, do you? There is no point in explaining anything to you, not anymore, will.
Will: Come on, you got to... at least tell me why you brought me all the way down here.
John: I already did. This is where... the dead are put to rest.
Will: You're not serious.
John: Do I look like I'm joking?
Will: You don't have to do this, john.
John: I'm afraid I do.
Abigail: Do you remember how I told you that gabi and i got into it about andre?
Chad: Yeah, 'cause you accused her of killing him.
Abigail: I hate that I asked her that. I just... I mean, she's my friend, and I-I love her, but I just do want justice for andre. But I mean, that's not really an excuse, because I shouldn't have asked her that, but... and it obviously upset her, and so she turned the tables around and she asks me the same question because she feels like she wants me to know what it feels like to be asked something like that by someone you care about. And, you know, unfortunately, she didn't take it as a question. She took it as an accusation. And for her to ask me something like that, I just... I mean, but it did make me realize that I don't think that she killed andre. I really don'T. There was something about the way that she asked me and--and her, like, demeanor when I asked her. I totally believed that she's innocent, and that's-- you know, that's why I went to stefan and asked him to reinstate her. But that's, like, all before you told me all this stuff about the surveillance footage, and--
Chad: You know, just... process--process that. Um... forget the surveillance footage for a second. Gabi says she didn't do it. She's adamant about it.
Abigail: Okay, but what about the police and what they think? Because why is someone running around in her coat and carrying her badge? It doesn't make sense.
Abigail: They've arrested her? They're gonna keep her overnight?
Chad: Re-- do you remember-- of course you do-- the situation with ben?
Chad: Yes. All the evidence pointed to me. Everyone thought I was guilty, everyone. Except one. I had the secret weapon.
Abigail: What is it?
Chad: You. You never stopped believing in me, and you--you fought to prove that I was innocent.
Abigail: So you think that i should fight for gabi?
Chad: I think we all should. I mean, the police don't believe her. Nobody believes her. I think that it would really help her to--to know that someone out there does, to give her a little bit of hope that it's--that she's not alone in all of this and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Sonny: It's not like I didn't know this was coming.
Justin: Doesn't make it any easier, I know.
Sonny: The thing is, I mean, even...when we're divorced, I'm not gonna stop loving him. But since he's forgotten how he felt about me... he doesn't even want to remember. So...I'm gonna have to face that and I'm gonna have to move on, dad.
Sonny: Maybe? What do you mean, maybe?
Justin: I don't know. The mind works in mysterious ways. I mean, think about the lengths that sami went to, trying to shock will into remembering.
Sonny: Yeah, but none of that worked.
Justin: But something else might. Maybe something out of left field you never even considered.
Sonny: No. No, no, no, no, no. I don't want to think about anything traumatic happening to will ever again. He's been through so much.
Will: John... you don't want to do this.
John: I don't have a choice.
Will: But you love marlena. Do you think she's ever gonna forgive you if you kill her grandson?
John: That's a risk I'm gonna have to take.
Paul: It's will'S.
Chad: [Groans] Little guy's down for the count.
Chad: What are you doing awake still? Thought you were exhausted.
Abigail: Too upset to sleep.
Chad: Yeah. I don't think I'll be able to sleep much either.
Abigail: Reporters are already calling gabi a two-time murderer.
Chad: Yeah, so much for innocent till proven guilty.
Abigail: I mean, I want andre's killer to be punished more than anyone, but if they're gonna go after the wrong person, it's not--
Chad: Stop. Close your eyes. Close the tablet. Just at least try to get some rest, okay? Come on.
Abigail: You make me feel safe.
Chad: It's what I do. I love you.
Abigail: I love you.
Chad: [Mimics snoring]
Marlena: Uh, hi, john, it's me. I don't, uh-- I don't know why you haven't gotten back to me by now. Uh, I left you a message, and, well, maybe--maybe your-- maybe your phone is dead or you're not getting the messages. Hmm. Well--well, I know you had a meeting with steve, and that didn't happen, so maybe that made you think there was something wrong. Honey, there--there--there is something wrong. Steve is here. He's in the hospital. Where are you?
Kayla: I want you to promise me something.
Steve: Anything, sweetness.
Kayla: When they come in to run the next tests, you take the sedative.
Steve: How can i say no to you?
Kayla: Well, you have managed to on many occasions.
Steve: I'm at your mercy now.
Kayla: Yes, you are. So I don't argue with me, all right?
Steve: Okay, promise. Know what the biggest bummer about this is?
Steve: Our one-year anniversary is coming up and I'm stuck in this hospital bed. I haven't even gotten you a gift yet.
Kayla: You're my gift. You're all I need.
Steve: We're gonna get through this, sweetness... no matter what it is. As long as we're together, we're gonna beat it.
Justin: I certainly don't want anything bad to happen to will in order for him to get his memories back. I'm just saying that someday, his memory might return.
Sonny: Yeah, but I can't wait forever for that to happen.
Justin: And I'm not saying you should. But you can still hold on to hope. Because if will's memories ever come back, he's not just going to remember that you loved him. He'll remember that he also loved you.
John: You shouldn't have come here, paul.
Paul: Oh, my god. What have you done?
What are you doing?
