[Melancholy string music]

Theo: You wrote that whole song?

Claire: Mm-hm. Do you like it?

Theo: Yeah, don't you?

Claire: I do. I mean, the verses are okay, but the chorus still definitely needs some work.

Theo: Yeah? I mean, you could always still work on it, but I like the way it sounds.

Claire: I know. I just wanted it to be perfect before you left. Anyway... [Laughs] You know, we are not going to spend our last time together talking about me. Uh... have you heard anything else about the program you're going to be in?

Theo: Um... all I know is I'll be doing something. I'm just really tired of sitting in this bed.

Claire: Yeah, I know you must be.

Theo: I'm going to miss everyone, though.

Claire: I told you. I told you, I'm going to come visit.

Theo: You promise?

Claire: Theo, are you kidding? Are you kidding me? This year is going to fly by. You'll be back before you know it.

Theo: [Sniffs]

Claire: It'll be like you never even left.

Theo: Well, I know one thing that's going to be different. I'm going to be an uncle.

Claire: [Laughs] Wait, what?

Theo: Yeah.

Abe: D-did I hear you right? You two are having a baby?

Jj: Actually, I was--I was just saying that-- that some day, we...

Lani: Jj, he heard you. Dad, I'm pregnant.

[Low chime music]

Eli: Mom, I keep trying to put that night behind me. It's what lani wants, too.

It was christmas eve. Theo was still in a coma and jj had broken up with lani over it, so she decided to go to his place and talk to him about it one more time, but... when she got there, jj and gabi were in each other's arms.

[Twangy music]

Stefan: ...Tends to get messy and it always spills over into the workplace.

Abigail: Are you done?

Stefan: Come on, come on. Gabi could've gone to-- to basic black, but she chose dimera instead.

Abigail: Yeah, because we offered her a more lucrative deal.

Stefan: Or because chad's here.

Abigail: What's going on here?

Stefan: Abigail. Beautiful.

Vivian: Oh, you poor boy.

Stefan: What? What are you talking about?

Vivian: Abigail. You're already smitten, aren't you?

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

Abe: Well, I have... a lot of questions for you.

Jj: I'm sure you do, sir.

Abe: Before I ask them, there's one thing I'd like to say to both of you.

[Quiet music] I've come to see how much you love each other, so congratulations.

Eli: Lani and i weren't thinking. We--we had been drinking, and... we just wanted to stop hurting so bad. And then gabi came by the next morning, and I confronted her about what I thought had happened, and that's when i found out the truth.

Valerie: So... if you hadn't run into lani at that particular moment...

Eli: Then nothing would have happened. Lani and I made a huge mistake.

[Melancholy chime music]

Anyway... thank you for listening.

Valerie: Course.

Eli: I do feel a little bit better.

Valerie: Yeah, I'm glad. But what I'm about to say may change that.

Eli: What is that?

Valerie: I think the two of you ought to tell gabi and jj what happened. Tell them the truth.

Gabi: I was just talking with chad about, uh, theo going to south africa for the new program.

Abigail: Oh, yeah, right.

Gabi: Yeah, he was a little upset about it.

Chad: I just came by to congratulate gabi on everything, and, um, we started talking about theo and how we wouldn't be going through any of this if it weren't for me hiring him, so...

Abigail: Mm. Well, you're a good friend.

Gabi: I hope so.

Abigail: We're all going to miss theo, you know, and I haven't ever been to south africa.

Chad: Me neither.

Abigail: Should we plan the trip? Go down there for a few days, see theo?

Chad: Y-yeah.

Abigail: Yeah? Well, I just found some direct flights to johannesburg from london, so I thought we could go spend a few days there. We could go see theo, and... I don't know. We haven't ever really gotten to take that honeymoon, so... cape town's really gorgeous. Wine country, safaris...

Chad: Don't tempt me with a good time. When do we leave?

Abigail: I don't know. As soon as the company settles down.

Chad: You're on.

Abigail: Okay.

Stefan: It doesn't matter what I feel or don't feel for abigail. As you've pointed out repeatedly, she's married to my brother-- the half-brother.

Vivian: Oh, please. I've been around long enough to know that if a man is crazy enough about a woman, it doesn't matter whether she's married or not.

Stefan: Oh, my god. I was looking at her bloody id. Now you've got me breaking up her marriage.

Vivian: Listen to me. Our plan is more important than any woman. Now, you were not just looking at her photograph. You have been struck by a thunderbolt.

Stefan: A what?

Vivian: Colpo di fulmine. It's a sicilian expression. It means "love that strikes like lightning," and once you're struck, your life is irrevocably changed.

Stefan: That's ridiculous.

Vivian: Oh, did you not see the "godfather" movies?

Stefan: Yeah, uh--why are you asking me that?

Vivian: Michael corleone flees new york because he's murdered two men that tried to kill his father. Then he goes off to sicily--

Stefan: I know, yes-- yes, I know--stop, stop, stop. Even there, he has to be very, very careful if he wants to stay alive, but once he lays eyes on apollonia, all his resolve goes out the window. I--I've seen it. It's fiction. Look, I'm very intrigued by abigail, but believe me, I have not been struck by lightning. Our goal to restore dimera enterprises to greatness is complicated enough. I will not compromise that over any woman.

Vivian: I know you mean what you're saying, but you are a man who's been struck by--

Stefan: No, don't say-- I don't want to hear anything more about lightning and thunderbolts.

Vivian: That's too bad, because if you don't keep in control, the whole plan is going to blow up in our faces.

[Chime music] Copd makes it hard to breathe.

Claire: Theo, that's amazing! Oh, my god.

Theo: Yeah.

Claire: Jj and lani are going to have a baby.

Theo: Yeah, but you can't tell anyone, okay?

Claire: I won'T. I won't, okay? I promise. It's going to be like our little secret.

Ciara: What little secret?

[Dramatic music]

Valerie: I know a little something about keeping secrets, son. I know from experience that secrets have a way of coming out, and a lot of the time, the cover-up causes more pain than the crime. You know what I'm talking about.

Eli: Yeah. Mom, this situation is different from--from yours and david'S. It's my biological father. I mean, it's not like lani's gonna have a baby. Thank god.

Valerie: Thank god. Oh, okay, eli. I will support whatever you decide about how to handle this.

Eli: Even if you think it's the wrong decision?

Valerie: Even then.

Abe: Well, in a perfect world, my daughter would fall in love, decide to get married, make sure that marriage is working, and then tell me she was pregnant.

[Faint chime music] But this is far from a perfect world.

Jj: If it means anything, I'm really happy.

Lani: Me too.

Abe: Mm-hm. Oh, then I'm happy too.

So, does anyone else know?

Lani: I just found out myself. I wasn't really gonna tell anyone for a while, but someone decided to make a unilateral decision and tell theo.

Jj: Look, I'm--I'm sorry, but theo could tell that I was psyched about something, and I wanted to give him some good news before he lefT.

Abe: Well, you can hardly fault the man for being happy.

Lani: I know.

Abe: Why keep it a secret?

Stefan: Okay, okay. In the spirit of full disclosure, abigail and I do have a certain amount of chemistry.

Vivian: Oh, wonderful.

[Otherworldly music]

Stefan: But, you know, she tries to act cool around me, but I'm telling you, mother, I can see the fire in her eyes.

Vivian: Yes, well, that fire almost destroyed ben weston into a pile of ashes.

Stefan: Yes, I know. I had abigail checked out. I'm well aware of her psychological issues, but it was that psychopath ben weston that caused them. He deserved everything he got. Before him, abigail was, uh-- she was steady as a rock. She's fine now. She's perfectly healthy.

Vivian: Uh-huh. Maybe... but I wouldn't toy with her if I were you. Hell has no fury like a woman scorned.

Stefan: I know you understand all about that.

Vivian: Oh, touché, but I also know there's a fine line between passion and madness, and I don't think abigail is as far from that line as people think, so tread lightly.

Abigail: You stay for the meeting?

Chad: No, no, no. I got a-- I have something I have to take care of.

Abigail: Okay.

Chad: Yeah. See you.

Abigail: Okay, so, um, you and I need to draft a press release to announce the fact that gabi chic is now going to be operating under the dimera family of companies.

Gabi: Abby, I--I saw the look on your face when you first came in here and you saw chad and me hugging. Are you--are you really okay with us working so closely together?

[Dramatic music] Remember our special night?

Claire: If you can't learn to knock, can you at least not butt in on private conversations?

Ciara: I'm sorry. I didn't come here to fight. I just wanted to say goodbye to theo.

[Melancholy music]

Claire: I will wait outside.

Ciara: So I finally come back here and you're taking off? You know, a less secure individual would take that personally.

Theo: Well, good thing you're the most secure person I know.

Ciara: Don't you forget it.

Theo: I won'T. I won't forget you, either.

Ciara: Are you sure?

Theo: I cross my heart. And I'm--I'm really gonna miss you.

Ciara: Oh, man, I'm gonna miss you so much.

[Exhales raggedly] Remember when we were little kids and we used to have all those sleepovers, and whenever I'd hear a creepy noise in the house, you would hold my hand?

Could I maybe hold your hand, one last time?

Lani: The reason I didn't want to tell a lot of people is because kayla said that 80% of miscarriages happen within the first 12 weeks.

Jj: Oh, but you've been doing so great! It's--it's already been like, two months.

Abe: Hey, you got here just in time. You know, lani is--

Lani: Dad, dad. It's almost time for theo to leave, so we should all get there and say our goodbye.

Valerie: Well, abe, you go in first and we'll wait-- we'll wait here.

[Soft music]

Jj: I'm really sorry about telling your dad and theo.

Lani: It's okay.

Jj: Okay. I want you to know you do not have to worry. No one else is going to hear about this baby until you are ready.

Abigail: Gabi, we have already been through this. I know you're not after chad.

Gabi: Are you sure that you're sure?

Abigail: Why do you say that?

Gabi: Well, because when you came in here and you saw chad and me hugging--I don't know. I thought I saw something in your eyes.

Abigail: Okay, for, like, a nanosecond, yes, I was jealous, but it doesn't have anything to do with you or chad.

Gabi: So who does it have to do with?

Abigail: Stefan.

Stefan: I'm not worried about abigail. I'm not worried about chad. I know how to push both their buttons. I'm in complete control of the situation and my own feelings.

Vivian: You're very sure of yourself, aren't you?

Stefan: Why shouldn't I be? I'm not here to hurt anyone from my new family. Just here to lay claim to what's rightfully mine. Ah, ch--chad! [Laughs nervously] Come on in. What can I do for you?

[Tense music]

Chad: I just, uh, wanted to tell you I know exactly what you're trying to do.

Depression is a tangle of multiple symptoms

Stefan: This should be interesting. What am I trying to do?

Chad: You are, uh--you're trying to get to me, and it, uh--it appears you've found the perfect way.

Stefan: And what's that?

Chad: Abby told me everything.

Stefan: Did she now?

Chad: And i underestimated you. See, I--I-- I never thought that you would go after theo, try to replace me.

Stefan: Theo? This is about theo?

Chad: Yeah, I mean, you're aware that he's on the spectrum, right? So I had promised our dying sister that I would look out for him, and one of the ways I found that I could do that--the way that i could get him to open up with me--was through chess. I know you saw. He's a--the kid's a genius. I mean, he's amazing at it, and apparently, you're a whiz at the game as well, 'cause ever since you two played, he hasn't stopped asking me when you two are going to be able to do it again.

Stefan: [Grunts]

Chad: See, that was important to me, and you took that away from me, so, you know, score one for you.

Stefan: Chad, chad, I'm not trying to replace you with theo. If I was, I wouldn't be able to do it with just one chess game.

Chad: Well, I'll tell you-- I'll tell you what you did accomplish: Um... you convinced him that you're not out to hurt the family, and like I said, he's a genius, so I've learned to trust his instincts, and...

[Suspenseful music]

That being said, I, uh--I-- I need to give you the benefit of the doubt, and I haven't been fair to you. I apologize for that.

Abe: Well, you know, I do have to ask you again, are you sure this experimental program is the right thing for you to do?

Theo: Why would you ask me that now?

Abe: Because I put a lot of pressure on you to go for it.

Theo: Well, dad, how else am I gonna try and walk again?

Abe: Letting go's the hardest thing a parent has to do.

Theo: Especially with a kid like me.

Abe: You're not a kid anymore. You're a man. You know, I am glad that you're going to have family around you there. Your grandmother, your half-brother, making sure that there's always going to be at least one of them with you. I, uh--I believe that you're up to it. You're going to beat this thing, but this is your battle, and I believe that you're up to it. I believe that because I have watched you overcome one obstacle after another all your life.

[Melancholy music]

Jj: Hey, how are you feeling? You nauseous or anything?

Lani: I keep telling you that I'm one of the lucky ones who doesn't have morning sickness. I am a little hungry.

Jj: I'm on it.

Lani: Wait, where are you going?

Jj: To the cafeteria.

Lani: The food is awful there.

Jj: You said the chicken noodle soup is okay.

Lani: Jj, you don't have to do this.

Jj: I'll be right back.

[Intriguing music]

Eli: I found this.

Lani: It was in the room?

Eli: Yeah, you must have left it the night that we'd both like to forget.

Lani: Right.

Eli: Well, you and jj seem to be doing well.

Lani: We are.

Eli: You're not going to tell him, right? Good. Neither am I.

Lani: You and gabi are all right?

Eli: Yeah--actually, we're better than ever.

Abigail: Okay, look, if--if we are going to be working together, I really think it's important for you to believe I am absolutely not jealous of you and chad. I don't have any problem with your friendship, and I'm really glad that you're happy with eli.

Gabi: Okay, well, you mentioned that you were a little jealous when you saw us hugging, and it was because of stefan. What is that-- what does that mean?

Abigail: I just--I feel like stefan is trying to make it so that--he's trying to make me not trust chad. He literally came in and he said that he thought maybe you sold your company to dimera because you wanted to get back with chad.

Gabi: Are you serious? He used the same tactic with me.

Abigail: Really?

Gabi: Yes.

Abigail: I mean, did he not think that we would talk?

Gabi: Well, maybe he's not as big of a player as he thinks he is.

Abigail: Okay, look, I am so proud of you for everything that you have done to establish this brand, and I really think that together, you and I-- we can take this company to new heights.

Gabi: I do believe that.

Abigail: Okay, so you just worry about gabi chic, and you let me and chad deal with stefan.

Stefan: Appreciate your apology.

[Quiet harp music]

Chad: All right. Uh, sorry, one more thing. When abby came to you and asked you for our jobs back, you--you were kind enough to agree. Thank you, and I just want you to know that we're not going to be just going through the motions. Okay, you know, you and I-- we're brothers, and we both have the same goal. We want to make dimera as successful as it can be. Yeah, so--and we're not going to be able to do that unless we-- unless we bury the hatchet.

Abe: Um... you know, while lani's in there with theo, there's something I'd like to ask you about.

Jj: Sure.

Abe: I understand you resigned from the police force.

Jj: Right.

Abe: Can I ask you why?

Jj: After what I did to theo, I realized that police work isn't for me anymore, and now lani and I have a baby coming. I don't want my kid to be raised by two parents who are both in the line of fire.

Abe: You know, you're already thinking like a father.

Jj: Abe, I want you to know, your daughter and this baby will always come first with me, no matter what.

[Tender music]

Lani: Sounds like you have a pretty epic flight ahead of you. Did you know that there are, like, a zillion podcasts for sci-fi fans that you can download?

Theo: You're upset.

Lani: You're leaving for a year.

Theo: No, it's-- it's not that. I mean, come on, just let me listen to your problems for once.

Lani: Theo, I don't have problems.

Theo: Jj told me about the baby.

Lani: Wow. Did he also tell you that it was a total surprise?

Theo: Yeah. He seems really happy, and he loves you. Do you love him?

Lani: [Cries] I do.

Theo: When I'm trying to fix an it problem and I get stuck, I know that I'm missing some information, so... what am I missing?

Lani: I... I'm about to have a baby for the first time, and I don't know what to expect.

Theo: [Laughs]

Lani: So I need you to stop worrying about me, okay? And concentrate on powering through this rehab program, because I need you to come back here in full-on uncle mode.

Theo: Okay, I tried. Look, uh, whatever it is, I know you can take care of yourself and you'll do the right thing.

Lani: [Sputters]

Theo: [Laughs]

Gabi: When I was modeling, I learned how to put a lot of looks together, and then a couple years ago, I realized that I could suggest things to other people, and that made them feel better about themselves, or it made their lives nicer, and it made me feel better about myself.

Abigail: That's perfect. Okay, um, so why don't you tell me about some of the things on this shelf?

Gabi: Okay, so the shoes and the purses are totally my fave and they're very affordable, and the aromatherapy candles-- those are from the lifestyle brand, and the wigs-- they're for the beauty line.

Abigail: Great. What, do you think about this about 24 hours a day, or what?

Gabi: [Laughs] Pretty much. Actually, ari came home from school yesterday with a little clay bowl that she made, and I told her how pretty it was, and she said, "mom, you can't sell it on gabi chic."

Abigail: Aww. [Laughs]

Gabi: And then this coat that I wore today-- I just figured it was the perfect coat for the perfect weather, and it was a great price, so I was trying to see if I could market it.

Abigail: So it's like your-- your whole life is like a test kitchen or something.

Gabi: Abby, look, I don't-- I don't want this press release to be about me. I want it to be about the company.

Abigail: I understand that, but the company is called gabi chic. You know, you've done that, and it's all about making very high quality, affordable, bold choices, and that's--that's you. You empower people and I really admire that.

Gabi: Thank you, but a lot of the choices I've made in my life haven't worked out. I mean, dimera has to deal with the fact that the owner of gabi chic spent time in prison. I mean, how are you going to spin that?

Abigail: Well, I think that my cousin nick was a monster. He victimized you and you fought back, but ever since then, you have been a model citizen. You've taken care of yourself, arianna, built an entire company from the ground up without the help from anyone else. You know, in a lot of ways, I wish I were more like you.

Gabi: Oh, come on. If anyone's a badass here, it's you.

Stefan: Glad you've decided to come around. I told you before, I value your input. I mean, we're brothers, and I want you to play a huge role in this family's business.

Chad: Thank you, and I cannot wait to hear what you have planned at dimera. My job now is strictly to just do whatever I can to help you be as successful as you can.

Stefan: Great. You have time now?

Chad: [Laughs nervously] No, I, uh--no. I--no, I got a meeting, actually, off-campus.

Stefan: Okay, sure.

Chad: But I appreciate that, and, um, again...

Stefan: Yeah.

Chad: Vivian.

Vivian: Chad.

[Unsettling chime music]

Well, I hope you didn't believe a word he said. I certainly didn'T.

Stefan: I think I'll give chad the benefit of the doubt the way he gave me.

Vivian: All right. String him along.

Stefan: I don't know if he was being sincere or not. I really don't care. I will share my vision of this company with him after it's been executed.

Vivian: Just don't rattle his cage, especially when it comes to abigail.

Stefan: I already told you, I'm in control of that situation.

Vivian: Now just don't blame your dear old mum for worrying about her son. I think I'll check a few things out, just to ease my mind.

Stefan: I know better than to try and talk you out of that. I trust that you will try and use some discretion.

Vivian: Don't I always?

Stefan: Ha!

[Eerie music]

Abigail: Me, badass?

Gabi: I mean, nick-- nick played mind games on me. I mean, he didn't get physical up until the very end, but ben, he--I mean, he went off his rocker. I mean, he started killing people. He kidnapped you and you gave birth to thomas while he was holding a gun to your head. I mean, you made sure thomas was all right.

Abigail: I mean, for a while, anyway.

Gabi: Yeah, look, I did-- did what I thought was the best thing at that moment to deal with nick, and it cost me a lot. And we both--

Abigail: You lost your freedom. I lost my mind.

Gabi: Yeah, and we lost a lot of time with our kids when they needed us. We both know what it's like to be separated from people that love us. I mean, when I saw ben at your wedding, I didn't know how you were going to react, or what was going to happen, and then you punched his lights out, and that's when I knew you were going to be fine.

Abigail: Yeah, you know, that's when I knew it, too.

Gabi: People love us and that means the world to us.

Abigail: Mm-hm, and we learned the hard way that we can stand up for ourselves.

Gabi: And now we get to do it for each other.

Abigail: Yeah.

Claire: And you're all packed.

[Sighs] Um... I'm going to miss you all the time, but I'm not going to miss this room for one second.

Theo: Me neither.

[Melancholy music]

Claire: Oh, god. I hate this.

Theo: Me too.

Claire: South africa is so far.

Theo: Hey, that won't stop me from walking my way back to you.

Claire: That's it. That's what the song was missing. This whole time, all I could think about was losing you.

But I forgot how much I believe in us and in the way we love each other.

That's going to help make you well.

[Foreboding piano notes]

Valerie: Ha! What was that for?

Abe: For all of your support during this ordeal.

Valerie: Aww, abe, I hope I can always be there for you and your familY.

Abe: I do too, especially since that family's getting a little bigger.

Valerie: What do you mean?

Abe: Can you keep a secret?

Valerie: Yeah.

Abe: All right, now, you didn't hear this from me. Lani's going to have a baby.

[Building dramatic music]

Valerie: [Gasps] Mother nature

Chad: Hey, john, I need an, uh--an update on stefan. Do you have time to meet real quick? No, because I tried to convince him that I was willing to play nice, and I'm not--I don't think he bought it. But I just need something I can bring to the board that will convince them that he's sabotaging dimera.

[Uneasy music]

No, look, I know the process. I'm not trying to pressure you. I just--I seriously think that we're running out of time, okay? The more I'm around him, the more I think he's dangerous.

Yeah, no, okay, I just--I-- look, we need to resolve this before somebody I love gets hurt.

Gabi: I love it! I just think we need to move this one a little to the left--

Stefan: How's the meeting going?

Abigail: Really well. Um, here, you know, we have the first draft of the press release for our acquisition of gabi chic.

Stefan: Mm. Yeah, yeah, looks--looks great. I'll look at it more carefully when I get back to my office. Oh, and by the way, you dropped that in my office.

Abigail: I was wondering where that was.

Stefan: So listen, is there any chance that you and I could have dinner tonight and go over this?

Abigail: No, because I'm having dinner with my husband and our son.

Stefan: I was talking to gabi.

[Dramatic music]

Claire: One day you'll say I'll be here till the end now we're lying here there's no one near but the clock's still counting down and it's broken time I want you bad but the wind's calling your name your name calling your name

[Guitar music]

Don't you leave me here alone, boy

Lani: [Crying]

&Claire: It's a better place for you I know, boy and all I can do is cry and all I can do is say goodbye goodbye to you I will wait for you alone

[Elevator dings]

It's a better place for you I know, boy and all I can do is cry and all I can do is say goodbye goodbye to you to you
