Theo: Claire had no right to keep this letter from me. She completely lied to me, Dad.

Abe: I know. I know, son. Please, sit. Look, I know how much it hurt you, but she did ultimately give you that letter.

Theo: Yeah, after months of not telling me about it. You know, and she's upset with me because I didn't believe she had nothing to do with that sex tape? But you know, who could believe a liar, dad, about anything?

Abe: I know you have trouble dealing with people who are unpredictable.

Theo: Yeah, well, that is Claire, completely and totally unpredictable.

Abe: Can you deal with it? You say you love her.

Theo: No, I do, I do, it's just... I'm starting to feel like I don't even know her. I mean, dad, how can I love someone I don't even know?

Claire: No. No.

Jade: Claire, we need to talk, please?

Claire: No, I said no.

Jade: Claire, come on. Just listen to me. Look, there is no reason for you to still be mad at me. I've said that I'm sorry.

Claire: Are you serious? You filmed me and Theo having sex without our consent. Do you have any idea how violated we feel?

Jade: I never meant to hurt you, why can't you see that?

Claire: My grandmother, a cop, and Theo's dad, who is the mayor, saw that video.

Jade: And that was a big mistake, it never should have happened, but it's over, right? And I mean, the video never went viral, so what's the big deal?

Claire: [Sighs] The big deal, the big humongous deal, is that you did whatever you wanted after I said no.

Jade: But I never even--

Claire: No, jade. You made your choice, and right now, I'm making mine. I want nothing to do with you, ever.

Kayla: Hey, Tripp. I didn't know you were coming in today.

Tripp: I had some time on my hands and wanted to talk to you.

Kayla: Sure. What about?

Tripp: I had such a great time with you the other day doing rounds, and I started thinking maybe about doing the mcats.

Kayla: Really? Well, I'll set you up with one of the residents here and you can talk to them about...

[Beeping] Oh. Someone's coding. I got to go, all right? I'll talk to you later, all right?

Tripp: Yeah, yeah. Definitely.

Kayla: Thank you. Thank you very much.

Eric: I know you're here to fulfill your court-ordered community service. And this is very upsetting to you, you... having to work for me. I know you wish that it could have been otherwise, as I wish it... didn't have to be this way either because I know this is very hard for you, and I just hope that we can just find a way to work--

Nicole: Okay, you know what? This isn't about you, you jerk. I just lost Holly.

Jenn: Anjelica Deveraux?

Adrienne: Mm-hmm.

Jenn: I cannot believe that jack's stepmother wants to take "the spectator" from us.

Adrienne: Yeah, you know the woman hates me, right?

Jenn: But you haven't heard from her in years.

Adrienne: Doesn't matter. She has never gotten over the fact that Justin chose me over her. And now, in her sick, twisted mind, it's my fault, of course, that her own son Alexander wants nothing to do with her.

Jenn: That is ridiculous.

Adrienne: Well, ridiculous or not, the woman is hell-bent on revenge. And she's decided the only way to get that is by taking "the spectator" away from us. Face it, Jennifer, Anjelica has the means to destroy our dream, and obviously she's determined to do just that.

Eric: You lost Holly? What do you mean?

Nicole: Chloe had finally given me my daughter. I thought all was right in the world. I'd finally gotten my daughter back.

Eric: And now? Did Chloe change her mind?

Nicole: No, it's... nothing Chloe did. She was ready to sign Holly over to me. She had made up her mind that Holly belongs with me, her mother, and then a judge intervened, and he... he put Holly in foster care for two months.

Eric: Two months? And after that?

Nicole: The case will be revisited.

Eric: I'm so sorry, Nicole. I...that's crazy.

Nicole: Yeah. So are a lot of things.

Eric: You know what, I bet Justin, he's gonna be able to convince the judge to give back Holly to you after that.

Nicole: He will. And I'm gonna prove to the judge and to everyone that I am a responsible person, capable of raising my daughter with love.

Eric: You are all of that. Two months is gonna go by fast, I promise.

Nicole: Like hell it will! It's gonna feel like an eternity.

Tripp: Hey, what happened? Is everything okay now?

Kayla: Unfortunately, no. I lost the patient. Mr. Sherman, you remember him from the other day?

Tripp: Yeah, yeah. I met him. Emphysema, right?

Kayla: Complicated with pneumonia.

Tripp: I'm really sorry, Kayla.

Kayla: I think I need to get some fresh air. Would you like to join me?

Tripp: Thanks, but I got to get going.

Kayla: Okay. I understand.

[Suspenseful music]

Jade: Never is a long time, Claire, and I know you. You're a good person--

Claire: No, you don't know a damn thing about me, jade, 'cause if you did, you would have already accepted what I've said and you would have left. Oh, wait. That's right. You don't listen to people. You do whatever you want.

Jade: I was only trying to help you because you were losing followers.

Claire: Okay, well, I did not ask for your help. And because you didn't listen to me, people got hurt.

Jade: I didn't mean to hurt you, Claire. How many times do I have to say it? Look, I don't have many friends. Especially girlfriends. I only have people who use me.

Claire: Well, yeah, that's because you use them too, jade. And if you don't use them, you lie to them, or you do these terrible things behind their back, like do you think this is a game? Because it's not. This is my life. And this is Theo's life.

Jade: Okay. You're right. About everything. I guess I'm just still learning how to be a good friend.

Claire: Okay, well I am so done being your little test case. I've paid way too high of a price already.

Jade: Claire, come on. There's got to be something I can do to fix this.

Claire: Oh, god.

Jade: Please, I know if we just try, we can work this out--

Claire: Shut up. Shut up and get out right now. Go!

[Dramatic music]

like eternity, two months without your daughter. Stupid thing to say, I'm... I'm sorry.

Nicole: Can we just get to work?

Eric: Well, you know what? You don't have to work today. You're upset.

Nicole: I'm fine.

Eric: Just want you to know, if there's anything I can do--

Nicole: You can stop talking about my daughter, or anything that's not work-related.

Eric: Got it.

Nicole: I don't want to talk about my life, okay? I only told you about Holly to get you to shut up about how hard it is for me to be working with you okay? I don't like it, obviously. But it's the least of my problems right now.

Eric: Of course. I understand.

[Dramatic music]

Nicole: Look, I appreciate you trying to make our working relationship not feel so awkward, but no matter how hard you try, it feels awkward, okay? It's just awkward. And I think the best way to handle moving forward from here is to not talk about anything other than work. No small talk, and nothing personal.

Eric: I got it.

[Dramatic music]

Jade: Joey, did you not see my SOS text?

Joey: It's been a busy morning, I can't answer my phone during the breakfast rush.

Jade: Okay, well, breakfast is over and I need to talk to you.

Joey: Look, I'm still working, so...

Jade: I can't believe what just happened. I mean, I apologized to Claire for, like, the millionth time, and she just turns around and throws everything back in my face.

Joey: Jade, you made a sex tape of Claire and Theo. That's kind of hard to forgive. All right, you're lucky no one pressed charges.

Jade: Lucky? How am I lucky? Claire's treating me like I'm some kind of common criminal when all I did was make a harmless sex tape of her and Theo that hardly anybody even saw.

Kayla: What?

Adrienne: Now, if Steve can dig some dirt up on her--

Jenn: Yeah, well, I hope he does it soon before she calls in the loan on the printing equipment.

Adrienne: Jennifer, if she does that, we're screwed.

Jenn: Yeah, we are. Because we don't have the money to fend her off.

Adrienne: You know, Justin offered to bail us out, but I don't want to pull him into this.

Jenn: Yeah, I understand that. But I'm sure my brother offered the same thing.

Adrienne: Yeah, he's been incredibly supportive, but you know what? Jennifer, "the spectator" is yours and mine. I really just want to keep it that way.

Anjelica: Adrienne. Jennifer. Long time, no see.

Anjelica: Ladies, let me guess: You were just talking about me.

Adrienne: Anjelica, yes, we were just saying how much we missed you, how much it would brighten our lives immeasurably if you would pop back into Salem, and with serendipity, you appeared right at that moment.

Jenn: Mm, love when that happens.

Adrienne: Me too.

Anjelica: Oh, and I love that you two haven't lost your senses of humor.

Adrienne: Okay. Here's what's not funny: Your pathetic need for revenge after all these years. I mean, come on, Anjelica, have you never heard of forgiveness? That it's good for the soul? That you can live longer and be happier if you're not vindictive and evil, mired in spite and malice, spewing venom?

Jenn: Yes, have you never heard the quote that forgiveness is the virtue of the brave?

Anjelica: God, ladies, we haven't seen each other in years, and you're already dragging out the vapid Bartlett's quotes?

Adrienne: Okay, seriously, can you please just be civilized for once in your life, and just leave the past in the past?

Anjelica: Adrienne, this has nothing to do with the past. This is all about the present.

Jenn: What does that mean?

Anjelica: Well, that means that I'm calling in the loan. Your loan. Immediately.

Adrienne: [Sighs]

[Suspenseful music]

Kayla: A sex tape? Is there nothing that you won't stoop to?

Jade: I was trying to help a friend.

Kayla: Help a friend? And a sex tape helps a friend how? Do you have any idea what kind of damage this sort of thing can do to somebody?

Jade: We were having a private conversation--

Kayla: And what? And what? Nothing excuses what you have just done to your supposed friends.

Jade: Really? So nothing can excuse my making a sex tape, but Joey murdering a woman in cold blood is a-okay with you?

Kayla: This is not the time or the place to discuss that, jade.

Joey: Mom, mom. Let's go talk over here, okay?

Kayla: Joey... Joey, this situation with jade is getting worse and worse. And more and more frightening, that she would just spout off about Ava right here.

Joey: Look, she's never said anything about it to anybody. And she never will.

Kayla: Really? Joey, she is a loose cannon, not to mention that she doesn't seem to know the difference between right and wrong.

Joey: Mom, it's not like that.

Kayla: Isn't it? Every time I turn around, there is jade. She is just desperate for your attention, and it is not healthy for her or for you. It's not what you want. You know that. And what happens when she knows that? I am telling you right now that that girl is not someone who's gonna go quietly into the dark. You have got to realize that she can turn on you at any minute. Listen to me. She could ruin your life forever.

Joey: Jade is not going to tell anyone. She promised me she wouldn't. And I believe her.

Kayla: Why would you believe one word out of her mouth? She is a pathological liar.

Joey: No, she's not. Look, I know she's done some awful things, but jade is my friend, and right now, the person upsetting her is you, because she thinks you hate her.

Kayla: Joey, I don't hate her. I think that she is a very troubled girl.

Joey: I think she is too, but she's not ever deliberately mean. So please, have enough faith in me to let me handle this on my own.

Kayla: Joey, I have faith in you, I have faith in you, I just think that sometimes you can be a little naive.

Joey: Okay, look, I respect your opinion, but jade is my problem, so I'm the one who needs to deal with her.

Kayla: Okay. Okay, Joey.

Joey: Thank you.

[Dramatic music]

Jade: That woman doesn't know when to stop.

Joey: That woman is my mom.

Jade: And clearly, she's trying to turn you against me. Thank god it didn't work. I mean, you just proved that. You get me, Joey. You totally get me.

Joey: Jade, I...

Jade: Please, can you just let me finish? You're the only person who's shown any understanding at all. The only one who gets that what I did with that video, it wasn't meant to be a bad thing. My god, it was not that big of a deal.

Joey: I never said it wasn't that big of a deal. You stole a hotel key, broke into a room, set up a video camera, filmed two of your friends having sex, all without their consent.

Jade: I only did it to help Claire. She was losing followers by the minute. This video, it would have shot her to the top--

Joey: Top? Top of the what? Certainly not the music charts. Which is what she wanted. Sure didn't help Theo.

Jade: I didn't post it, Joey. I handed the only copy over to Claire--

Joey: Look, that doesn't make it right, okay? And maybe that's the bigger problem: You do these things that are hurtful and stupid, then you think people are ganging up on you when they call you on it.

Jade: People are doing more than calling me on it, Joey. They're attacking me. They're treating me like I'm some kind of lowlife, like I'm some worthless, disgusting person. Why are you looking at me like that?

Joey: Maybe you should talk to someone, jade.

Jade: That's what I'm doing right now, I'm talking to you.

Joey: No, I mean, like, to a professional.

Jade: Is that what you want me to do? Will that make you respect me?

Joey: I think you should do it, jade.

Jade: Okay, then I'll do it. For you.

[Soft music]

Nicole: Stop it! Please.

Eric: Never seemed to bother you when we worked together at the rectory. I didn't know it bothered you.

Nicole: Yeah, the tap, tap, tap, tap, tapping? Yeah. It bothers me, okay? Can you please just put the pen down?

[Phone ringing]

Eric: Hello. Hey, mom. She does? Really? Julie... oh, my god. Of course, that's amazing. I mean, that's... at the martin house. That's such a godsend. Are you kidding me? Of course. Absolutely, we'll be able to find new sponsors for the Horton center, yes. Mom, thank you. [Sighs] So, I think you should know.

Nicole: What? Is there a problem?

Eric: Yes, with the Horton center funding, there is. You know, given our current deficit, you know, we may not be able to remain open at the end of the fiscal year.

Nicole: Oh, no. That's awful.

Eric: No, I think we may have found a solution. We're gonna spread awareness of the center at the martin house party.

Nicole: Oh, so you mean you're gonna launch a campaign at a party?

Eric: Yes, that's what I mean.

Nicole: Well, that's all well and done, and a drop in the bucket. You know, you just need to dig deeper, cast a wider net. There's lots of different ways you could jumpstart a fundraiser and get some more money. I'll make some calls.

Eric: May I help you?

Jade: I don't know. I need to talk to a counselor or someone. Is this the right place?

Eric: Yes, it is. I'm the counselor on duty. I'm free to talk if you want to talk now.

Jenn: You can't do that.

Anjelica: Well, I can, and I will.

Jenn: Have you even thought about how jack would react to you doing this?

Anjelica: Invoking jack's name here is not gonna slow the wheels of progress. And besides, jack would be the first to understand why I'm calling in the loan.

Jenn: [Laughs]

Anjelica: No, no, this is business, ladies. It's not personal.

Adrienne: Oh! Oh, the hell it isn't! Anjelica, this is all about you and how much you hate me. You hate me because of Justin, and you hate me even more now because of Alexander.

Anjelica: You know, my son is no concern of yours.

Adrienne: Oh...

Anjelica: And besides, I don't hate anyone, Adrienne. That is not who I am.

Jenn: Not who you are? That is exactly who you are. Have you even thought about our employees, that you would be ruining their lives if you call this loan?

Anjelica: Again, this is just business. Now, ladies, this is how the real world works.

Both: [Laugh]

Adrienne: There is nothing real about you. In fact, you used a fake name and a fake corporation to try to take our paper away. You know what? Anjelica, be warned. You're looking for a fight, and you're gonna get one. And you're going down in flames.

Tripp: Okay, okay, okay. Security code. Uh... Kayla, Steve, Joey... let's start with brother's birthday. Bingo. Okay. Mr. Sherman, let's look at your chart, shall we? Yeah. Just gonna up your dosage. Morphine, 10% over the limit. Oh, this is tragic. Dr. Johnson has made a very fatal mistake.

Kayla: Ah, Tripp. You're still here.

Tripp: Uh, yeah, I got tied up on a call, and now I'm late. Are you okay?

Kayla: Yeah, yeah, I'm okay. But is it all right if we have that talk at a later time? The one about the mcats.

Tripp: Right, right. Yeah, no problem.

Kayla: Yeah, great.

Tripp: I got to go.

Kayla: Okay.

Jade: You're Eric Brady. Joey's cousin, right?

Eric: Yes. How do you know Joey?

Jade: I'm jade. His ex.

Eric: I'm sorry. It's nice to finally meet you.

Jade: Yeah, you too. I'm actually only here because of Joey. I made him a promise, and I'm trying to be a better person by following through. So... can we talk?

Eric: Of course. What do you want to talk about?

Claire: Theo. Hi.

Theo: Hey, um, you're on your break, right?

Claire: Uh, yeah.

Theo: Okay, so, could we talk somewhere privately?

Claire: Sure.

Theo: Um... all right, Claire, look. I've been doing a lot of thinking, and... I think that sometimes, when boyfriends and girlfriends are different, it can be a good thing--

Claire: Mm-hmm.

Theo: You know, it can make the relationship better.

Claire: Yeah, I agree. I do, I think that it can make things really interesting, and open your eyes to stuff that you never really thought about.

Theo: Well, what I was gonna say is that sometimes, when people are different, and don't have a lot in common, when they're together, it can be good, but, um... also, it can be bad.

Claire: Bad? How?

Theo: It can make people angry at each other. You know, it makes them, um, not a good match. Like us.

Claire: Are you breaking up with me?

Theo: Yeah. Yeah, I am.

Claire: So that's it? We're done? What are you gonna do now, Theo? Are you gonna call Ciara? Tell her that we're over, so that you two can hook up?

Theo: Look, this isn't about Ciara, Claire. This is about us. All right, and look, I don't want to hurt you, it's just that I don't think this is gonna work between us.

Claire: Okay. Okay. Fine, whatever.

Jade: Where do I begin?

Eric: Wherever you'd like.

Jade: Okay. Well... I was trying to help my friend get her career kick-started with a sex tape. It's all kinds of normal in Hollywood. I read about it all the time in magazines. I mean, a lot of people get rich and famous just from making a sex tape.

Eric: Did your friend consent to the taping?

Jade: But I really thought that when she saw it, she would be grateful.

Eric: But she...

Jade: When she saw it, she was furious. I mean, you would have thought that I'd stolen her boyfriend or something.

Eric: Did it occur to you that you were violating someone's privacy?

Jade: No, it didn't. I just thought it was sex between two consenting adults, which you see all the time on the internet and on TV. I mean, have you ever seen that show, "masters of sex"?

Eric: No.

Jade: And some of those scenes, they do just about everything. And in lots of other shows too, and in movies. You'd think people would be used to it by now, right? Anyway, now everyone is super mad at me, including Kayla. Acting like I killed someone or something.

Eric: Jade, I want you to put yourself in your friend's shoes. How would that make you feel if someone did the same thing to you? Recorded you when you were having something very meaningful and private with someone else?

Jade: I guess I might not be cool with it. But it would depend on why they did it. I mean, if they did it to help me like I did for Claire, then... look, the video never even went public.

Eric: Well, it seems to me, in spite of whatever's on the TV, or movies, or all over the internet, it's a lot of graphic sex, which... well, is sad. Because the true meaning of what sex is something that is a very private and intimate expression of love between two people.

Jade: Think I don't know that?

Eric: Well, if you did, then why would you make the tape?

Jade: Okay, I get it. I'm an idiot. And now, Joey thinks I'm a bad person, and all I want is for Joey to love me like I love him.

Eric: Jade, what I think you need to do right now is try to focus on yourself more than trying to put all your energy into making Joey love you. It's about you. Feeling respect. Feeling love. And loving yourself.

Jade: Well, how do I do that?

Eric: By trying to set goals. Trying to figure out what you want in your life. What is it that makes you who you are, make you feel great about yourself, rather than needing the love of somebody else to make you feel okay?

Jade: That sounds like it'll be really hard to do.

Eric: It's gonna be easier for you to find love, and you won't feel so needy, which is often what scares people away.

Jade: Yeah, I do know that. I read a lot of dating blogs, so I know that "needy" is a dirty word. Men like independent women. Cool women who won't chase them.

Eric: Don't make it about what would attract a man. Make it about you feeling better about yourself. What makes you feel stronger, clearer about what you really need.

Jade: Well, you've given me a lot to think about. Thanks. Would it be okay if I came back sometime to talk some more?

Eric: Yeah, of course. Um... this is my direct line.

Jade: Thanks. I'm really glad that I came here today.

[Dramatic music]

Anjelica: You know, I think there's a little bit of confusion going on here. I made those transactions under an alias to avoid hurt feelings and misunderstandings. Now, it wasn't until your brother started snooping around that problems came up.

Adrienne: You know what? Problems came up when you decided to punish not only me for some imagined transgression from the distant past, but also Jennifer, who decided to join me in this venture to honor jack. Anjelica, please, "the spectator" was so important to him. Please, for the love of jack, do not destroy his legacy.

Anjelica: Jennifer, you know, I really appreciate what you were trying to do here. Unfortunately, your sidekick knows nothing about journalism. She's the one who's destroying jack's legacy by running the paper into the ground.

Adrienne: For god's sakes, nobody's running it into the--

Anjelica: And then there's the bad publicity from her abortive wedding to Lucas Horton last November.

Adrienne: How do you know about that?

Anjelica: Oh, it's common knowledge.

Adrienne: No, it's not. And I know Alex doesn't speak to you. Oh, my god. Have you been keeping tabs on me?

Anjelica: Oh, as if you were worth the trouble. No, no, no, no, I just heard it on the grapevine, as it were, that you kept Lucas dangling for months after Justin barged in on your wedding, and then you kept Justin dangling. I mean, do you get some kind of sick thrill out of keeping these guys on a string, never telling either one of them how you really feel? Are you really that much of a narcissist?

Jenn: Don't you dare go after her. If you knew what she had been through this past year, you--

Anjelica: Oh, what? The breast cancer? I know all about the breast cancer. You know, a lot of women in this country get breast cancer, and they don't use it to engender pity to manipulate two good men into doing whatever they want.

Adrienne: You sick, twisted--

Anjelica: Ah!

Adrienne: [Screams]

Jenn: Adrienne!

Adrienne: Let--let go of me!

Jenn: Wait! Stop! Adrienne!

[Soft music]

Nicole: Um... so I am, uh, done for the day.

Eric: Already?

Nicole: The databases are all up to date. I've done everything I can for the party. I emailed you a summary of my planning and a pitch to garner more sponsors for the center.

Eric: Thank you, but you have three more hours.

Nicole: Which I will fulfill at the fundraiser. I just really need to go home. I'll see you later.

Jenn: Stop it!

Adrienne: Ah!

Jenn: Stop it! Both of you.

Adrienne: Ah...

Jenn: Are you okay?

Anjelica: Is she okay? This bitch attacked me in a public place. I should press charges.

Jenn: We are done with her. Do you hear me? We will worry about this loan and we'll deal with it on our own, okay? Good-bye, Anjelica.

Anjelica: Yes, well, I'm sure my attorneys have had time now to serve your office with notice about the loan, so you two ladies have three weeks to figure it out, or the paper is mine.

Adrienne: [Sighs] I'm sorry, Jennifer. I'm sorry... god, I can't believe I let that woman get to me like that. You know something? I kicked cancer to the curb. And I'm gonna do the exact same thing to that woman, except twice as hard. [Laughs] Twice as hard.

Kayla: You okay?

Claire: No. Not really.

Kayla: How about if I just sit here for a little while? I'm guessing this has to do with what jade did. I heard about the video.

Claire: It was only a matter of time.

Kayla: Claire, I'm really sorry. But we don't have to talk about it if you don't want to. I am really concerned about Joey, though. That he just maintains this friendship with her.

Claire: Joey's a really good person.

Kayla: But jade isn't. And she's in love with someone who is not in love with her. And she refuses to see that. Joey thinks that they can just be friends, and that eventually, she'll be okay with it, but she won't. And I'm really worried.

Claire: Yeah. Yeah, I think you're right to be worried, aunt Kayla. Because that girl is like a total wrecking ball.

Jade: Have you seen Joey?

Tripp: Uh, he just left.

Jade: Did he say where he was going? I really need to talk to him.

Tripp: Jade, you're my roommate, so I feel like I can give you some unsolicited advice. Don't chase after a guy. You know, it'll come across as desperate. Joey'll think you're obsessed.

Jade: Do you think I'm obsessed?

Tripp: The truth? Yeah, I do.

Jade: Okay, well, you just don't know the history that I have with Joey. We always end up back together eventually. And we're in friend mode right now, and it sucks, because I'm in love with him, but... and it's really not helping that his mother hates me.

Tripp: Well, speaking of your favorite mom. I've got some good news. I was able to change the medication notes on the chart of one of her patients that died.

Jade: Wow. I'm seriously impressed.

Tripp: It's only a matter of time before someone realizes how negligent dr. Johnson really is, and that her patients are dying because of her. Before we know it, Kayla's gonna get what she deserves.

Jade: Good riddance. Is anybody else getting the fact that the --
