[Soft music]

John: So what do you do, doc? What do you do when you have tried everything and nothing works? I mean, Brady's on every donor list. We've talked to specialists all over the country. Pretty much worn the hospital chapel out praying.

Marlena: I know, I have too.

John: The only thing that makes me feel better is knowing that you're with me.

Marlena: I'm not going anywhere.

John: See, I like--I can't... I need to go sit with my boy.

Marlena: I'll come with you.

Valerie: Jennifer, I don't want to be rude, but--

Jennifer: No, uh, this won't take long. I just need a few minutes. That's all.

Valerie: Okay, we can talk after I check on Brady.

Jennifer: No, you don't understand. I'm on a deadline, so if you just give me a few minutes, then I will get out of your hair, because I just--I want to write a story about Brady and him fighting for his life and about his son, Tate, and I just think he needs a little sympathetic publicity right now.

Valerie: Why are you acting like this? Brady doesn't need any sympathetic publicity. He needs a new heart, and he isn't going to get one. Now, if you'll let me--

Jennifer: No, please. Please, just one more thing.

Chloe: Eric, I'm just gonna go get my keys and then I'll leave.

Eric: No. You can't go in.

Chloe: No? What the hell is going on?

Nicole: I know what I'm supposed to do. I know what I came to do. But, Brady, we-- we had it all. We were going to be a family, you, me, Tate, and holly. We were so close to having our dream. This--[Sighs] This can't be happening. I mean, they said that you were gonna leave me. Us. But you can't, okay? Because I can't do this again, Brady. Please, don't make me say good-bye. Please. Please.

Lucas: No, I'm not coming in today, remember? Yeah, I have plans. Right, I know. Harry can handle that. He's capable. You got to be kidding me. Fine, I am coming in today. I'll be right there.

Adrienne: Oh, somebody sounds stressed.

Lucas: We have this ad campaign due, and my go-to guy harry is out with a bad back, so...

Adrienne: So?

Lucas: As much as I want to spend my day with you, my beautiful woman...

Adrienne: Honey, it's okay. It's okay, really.

Lucas: Are you sure?

Adrienne: Mm-hmm.

Lucas: Can I call you later?

Adrienne: Of course.

Lucas: We'll figure something out, maybe meet for lunch in the park. A picnic, a picnic in the park.

Adrienne: Oh, I love picnics.

Lucas: Are you sure?

Adrienne: Absolutely, baby. Go, be an executive.

Lucas: I'm sorry.

Adrienne: No, don't be sorry.

Lucas: I just feel bad, you know?

Kayla: Hey.

Adrienne: Hey. Um, what's going on?

Kayla: Nothing. We're good.

Adrienne: Good.

Kayla: But you don't seem like you are.

Adrienne: Me? I'm great. I'm fine. I'm absolutely--absolutely not so great, yeah.

Steve: What's wrong? Come on. Just tell me.

Adrienne: [Sighs] It's k-- it's kind of embarrassing.

Eric: Uh, no, it's nothing. Just, you know, waiting to see Brady.

Chloe: And you're being... oh, I get it; it's-- it's hard to see him like this. I was in there before. Do you want to go in together?

Eric: No. Um, you can't.

Chloe: What?

Eric: He's just not allowed to have visitors right now.

Chloe: Uh, Eric, he's unconscious. He won't even know that we're there. Okay, what's this really about?

Eric: No, nothing. You know what, maybe you should just go.

Chloe: Well, I can't go without my keys, so...

[Monitors beeping]

Nicole: [Crying softly] I promised myself on the way here, on the plane, when we landed, coming to the hospital, that... that I was gonna do the only thing I could do and say good-bye. But I can't. I'm not ready, Brady. I'm never gonna be ready. Brady, please. Don't leave me. We were gonna raise our kids together. And be together. Always. Happy. I love you so much, Brady.

[Monitor beeps]

Oh, no. No, no, no, no, Brady. Please. Brady, stay with me, please. Stay with me.

[Flatlines]

No! [Crying] No! Brady.

Steve: Come on, baby. Family, remember?

Kayla: Nothing's embarrassing.

Adrienne: Okay, um, when Jennifer and I bought "the spectator," we took out a loan. I mean, it wasn't a huge loan, but it was big enough. And unfortunately, the bank sold the loan to a company called snowglobe inc. Now that company, the guy who runs it, is threatening to call it in.

Steve: Well, can he do that?

Adrienne: Well, we didn't read the fine print, so yes, he can. The thing is, now the guy wants us to pay him back by selling him the newspaper.

Kayla: What?

Adrienne: And the baffling thing is, that this guy, we have no idea who he is.

Steve: What do you mean you don't know who he is?

Adrienne: Well, we know his name. It's Sebastian Howard. However, I have no way to get a hold of him, his company, let alone ask him for more time.

Kayla: Well, Steve, you could look into that, couldn't you? Couldn't you try to find him?

Steve: Sure. If he's out there, I'll find him. So that's--Sebastian--

Adrienne: Sebastian Howard.

Steve: Snowglobe inc.?

Adrienne: Yeah, I haven't even met the guy and already I hate him.

[Phone ringing]

Steve: Oh. I'm sorry, I gotta take this. But listen, I'm gonna get right on this, all right?

Adrienne: Thank you.

Steve: Don't you worry.

Adrienne: Appreciate it.

Kayla: Bye. Thank you.

Steve: Steve Johnson.

Adrienne: Please, don't let Justin know about this. He was in a snit when Jennifer and I bought "the spectator" because titan wanted it, and I really don't want to hear "I told you so" right now, you know?

Kayla: I got it.

Adrienne: Thank you.

Kayla: But let's talk about something more important.

Adrienne: Yeah.

Kayla: How are you doing? Medically.

Adrienne: Me?

Kayla: Yeah.

Adrienne: Fine. I mean, I am fine. I'm making all my appointments and everything's testing exactly how it should. The reconstruction is healing nicely, even better than I thought it would, even.

Kayla: But...

Adrienne: Just between us?

Kayla: Of course.

Adrienne: I love Lucas, and he loves me, and he's been very patient, but I think... I think now it's time to...

Kayla: Make love again?

Adrienne: Yes. And Lucas has been fantastic. I mean, he's been absolutely amazing. But what if he's disappointed?

Kayla: Why would he be?

Adrienne: Kayla, I just-- come on, I'm different now. I swear, I keep thinking to myself, I don't think I'm ever gonna be able to have sex again.

Nicole: No, Brady.

[Monitor flatlining]

Nicole: No, please. Holly, sweetheart. There's some time. We have to say good-bye, baby. Oh, god. Okay. Baby girl. Here you go. Hold her now, like this. Here. Brady, honey, she's here. Holly's here. And you're right next to your daddy's heart. Yes, you are. Oh.

[Flatlining continues]

[Crying] No. Brady, please, come back. [Sobs]

Adrienne: Don't get me wrong, I'm not feeling sorry for myself. What you did, what those doctors did, when I think about it, it was absolutely amazing. I'm healthy, cancer-free, and I feel good. And believe me, I definitely, definitely know how lucky I am. It's just... when I think about being intimate, I--

Kayla: It's a little scary.

Adrienne: No, it sounds idiotic. I mean, I keep saying to myself, why am I making such a big deal? He loves you; he doesn't care. But then I think to myself, what if he doesn't like what he sees? You know--no, seriously, Kayla. There are scars.

Kayla: I want you to listen up, girl. Seriously. It's natural for you to feel nervous. And okay, yes, there are some men who care how women's breasts look. But most men--I'm talking 80, 90% of men--don't see women as sex objects. And Lucas strikes me as someone who won't only be considerate; he'll make sure that you are 100% comfortable.

Adrienne: He has been so patient. I mean, zero pressure.

Kayla: Well, you know what you need to do. Relax.

Adrienne: Oh, god.

Kayla: And when the time is right, you'll know it. And then maybe when it comes up, you'll go for it. Take a leap of faith. It's gonna catch you. Guaranteed.

[Phone ringing]

Adrienne: [Chuckles]

Kayla: Huh, speaking of the devil.

Adrienne: Hello, Mr. Executive.

Lucas: Hello, yourself. Listen, honey, it is such a beautiful damn day outside. You know what, I just told my people "make whatever decision you want; I'll back you 100%." I just would much rather spend my day with you.

Adrienne: Well, it's a good thing you're the CEO. [Laughs]

Lucas: That's right. That's right. How about that lunch in the park?

Adrienne: Uh, you know what, honey, I've been catching up with Kayla, I haven't had a chance to put anything together. How--would you mind meeting me back at my room?

Lucas: All right. Um, yeah, sure, I'll-- I'll see you soon.

Adrienne: Okay. I'm not 100%.

Kayla: But...

Adrienne: But I definitely think I'm more ready than I think I am. [Laughs]

Valerie: You deliberately kept me from coming in the room? You knew Nicole was here? Please get the baby off his chest.

John: My boy is dying.

Marlena: What's going on in here?

Chloe: You knew that she was in here, that she had my baby.

Eric: Holly's not your baby.

John: You gotta do something, doc. Pull him out of this spiral now. You gotta do something.

Valerie: John, I'm so sorry. I can't; he's gone.

Marlena: John--

Valerie: Nicole, please step aside.

John: Do something, doc. She's gotta do something.

Marlena: She can't do anything.

Nicole: Brady...

Marlena: I'm so sorry.

Nicole: Honey? We know it's time. And we're here. We're here to say good-bye.

Chloe: Please just hand her to me.

Eric: Everyone step back, please. Let's give Nicole a moment. What she's got, she deserves it.

[Monitor beeps]

[Orchestral music]

John: What the hell?

Nicole: Brady. [Laughs] Yes, honey. [Laughs] Yay.

Lucas: Well, I might have gone a little bit overboard, but you said picnic and I just wanted to cover all the bases. You know me.

Adrienne: My god, you bought out the store.

Lucas: No, I didn't. Maybe just the deli section. No big deal. How you doing? You okay?

Adrienne: Yeah, I--no, I'm okay. I just feel a little embarrassed. You know, I--

Lucas: Why? Why are you embarrassed?

Adrienne: Well, Lucas, you're always doing so many things to make me happy, and you're so considerate. And I just decided I didn't want to go on a picnic.

Lucas: All right. Kind of a shocker. You know, you said picnic, I got food, but we don't have to do that. We don't have to do that at all. We could--we could--you know what, we could just take the boat out on the river. We can have a nice time. It's not too choppy out there. Or we could take a bike ride if you want.

Adrienne: No--

Lucas: It's up to you. Whatever you want to do.

Adrienne: You don't understand. Um... I don't want to go anywhere.

Lucas: Are you okay?

Adrienne: Never better.

Lucas: You just don't want to go anywhere with me. Is that it?

Adrienne: What? Oh, god, no. No, Lucas, you don't understand. You don't understand. I don't-- I want to stay here. With you.

Nicole: [Gasps softly]

Valerie: Nicole? I need to check Brady.

John: What did we just see?

Marlena: I can't explain this. I don't understand.

Jennifer: Oh, my goodness. I know you prayed about this, and so did I, but is this really happening?

Eric: You know, I don't understand, but if he can just last...

Valerie: Um, I'm gonna need everybody to clear the room. Everyone, please. Now.

Marlena: Of course, of course.

Nicole: [Sighs] It was holly.

Eric: It was amazing. Truly amazing.

Jennifer: I mean, I never would have believed it if I hadn't been in there.

Eric: His heart started beating.

Jennifer: He just began breathing.

Nicole: It was holly and Daniel.

John: How did that just happen?

Marlena: I don't know, but it did. It did.

Jennifer: It's amazing. It's the most incredible thing that happened.

John: My god.

Nicole: There was a reason. I had to come back for Brady, and I had to bring holly with me. Because on some level I knew what Brady needed was holly. And Daniel's heart responded to his little girl who was also a miracle. So holly saved Brady's life. what to make of it, but dr. Grant is there, and she's on top of it, so just make sure she has everything she needs, okay? All right, thanks a lot. Hi.

Steve: Hey.

Kayla: Well, it's the craziest thing: They--you know, they thought they lost Brady. I mean, his heart completely stopped. And then they brought him back and everything shifted and everything's better

Steve: Well, that's good news, baby.

Kayla: Well, I hope so. I mean, maybe it's just temporary or maybe his antirejection drugs are doing their job again. I--it's...

Steve: Well, john and Marlena must be going out of their minds.

Kayla: No kidding. Well, any word on finding Adrienne's loan shark?

Steve: Well, you know me, baby. Dog with a bone. Probably have it wrapped up by, you know, the end of the day.

Kayla: Oh. So nothing yet, huh?

Steve: Well, you know--

Kayla: Yeah. Don't try that Mr. Confident routine on me. I know you too well, Steve Johnson.

Steve: Yeah, you do.

Kayla: Mm-hmm.

Steve: I didn't want to tell you I hit a brick wall.

Kayla: So you can't find anything about this Sebastian-- whatever his name is.

Steve: Howard. I mean, it's like the guy doesn't exist. I mean, there are plenty of people out there with that name, but there's no one I can find who's connected to finance or newspapers.

Kayla: An alias then.

Steve: It's got to be. I haven't been able to find anything on snowglobe incorporated either.

Kayla: Well, maybe this guy is just blowing smoke.

Steve: No, no, no. He's real. He owns this loan, and he wants payment. And if they don't come up with it, they'll go into bankruptcy and the court will give him the newspaper as payment.

Kayla: Weird.

Steve: Yeah. Especially because it's not a good business move. I mean, it's like this guy is going after Jennifer and Adrienne personally. Now, who would have a grudge like that?

Kayla: I have no idea. But you'll find him. You always do. Maybe just stop by at the end of the day.

[Elevator dings]

[Light laughter]

Marlena: Gosh.

Jennifer: I still cannot believe this.

Nicole: He's gonna make it.

Eric: Sure seems that way. Thank god.

Marlena: Oh, hello, Rafe.

Rafe: Hi. Heard the great news about Brady.

John: Yeah, we got some prayers answered today.

Rafe: Yeah, that's terrific. I hate that I have to do this, but I hope you understand I have a job to do. Eric, Nicole? I'm afraid I'm gonna have to take you both down to the station for questioning.

Nicole: Uh, I understand. I knew it would come to this, but it was totally worth coming back like this because we saved Brady's life. Well--holly did.

Rafe: Really?

Nicole: And that's all that's important now, okay, and I need you to understand that Eric did nothing wrong.

Rafe: Okay. I understand that. I still need him to come down to the station for questioning.

Nicole: Okay, he just brought me back here. That's not aiding and abetting. Okay, he didn't do anything illegal. In fact, you could say he did your job; he brought me back here where I have to face all the charges against me. I have no intentions of leaving. I need to stay here for Brady. But what I'm hoping-- what I'm begging-- is that you'll let me stay here a little longer so I can talk to the doctor and find out how Brady's doing, and then you can drag me out of here in chains if you have to.

Marlena: Oh, I'm sure that's not going to happen. I can't imagine Rafe came all the way down here just to make everybody's lives a little harder.

John: An hour or two won't hurt, will it?

Nicole: I just want to hold his hand, talk to him one more time.

Rafe: Okay, okay. All right, all right, fine, let's not--just--okay. I need you to come down to the station, though. Otherwise the commissioner, he's going to be all over me, okay? Please?

Eric: Not a problem.

Jennifer: I'll go with you.

Eric: It's not necessary.

Jennifer: No, I'm coming with you.

Marlena: Yeah, I'll go too.

Eric: Mom, please. Just stay here with Brady.

Marlena: Okay. I'll do that. I'm sure it's gonna be fine. Nicole just said that you didn't do anything wrong. You make sure you call me, okay, and I'll call your dad. Tell him what's happening.

Eric: Thank you. Can I have a minute with Chloe before we leave?

Rafe: Go ahead.

Eric: It's obvious you called Rafe, got the police here.

Chloe: Yeah, well, he deserved to know that his suspect is back in town.

Eric: All you said you wanted is Nicole to come home, and now she's home. And the first thing you did is call the police.

Chloe: I'm the only one thinking about that child's welfare.

Eric: If you love her as much as you say you do, let her be with her mother.

Rafe: Webster? Commissioner Raines needs to interview Eric Brady down at the station.

[Dramatic music]

[Elevator dings]

John: How's he doing?

Marlena: Any news?

Valerie: No news. He's steady. His heart function is relatively strong, relatively steady. His breathing's still shallow, but regular. Pulse ox 97.

Marlena: That's a good oxygen level.

John: Okay, that's good, that's good.

Marlena: Thank you, val. Do you have any idea what happened?

Valerie: No, none at all. I mean, I've seen a great many patients revive after CPR, but that's not what happened here.

Nicole: It was a miracle.

Valerie: That's a good enough explanation for me. Our concern of course now is whether he'll begin rejecting the heart again.

Nicole: When can you be sure?

Valerie: Well, his body will let us know. I'll keep you posted after the tests come back.

Marlena: Thank you, val.

Valerie: Yeah.

Nicole: Dr. Grant, I have to leave here pretty soon with Rafe, and I'd like one more visit, if it's all right.

Valerie: Yeah, of course. Take it easy.

[Somber music]

Lucas: Staying with me means... wow. Um... are you sure? Are you sure you're ready?

Adrienne: [Sighs] I'm a little scared. When part of your body's been taken away and rebuilt, no matter how natural it looks, it... I need to be close to you. It's time. I love you. And I am so grateful that you've been so patient with me.

Lucas: Listen, you don't have to do this out of gratitude. I mean, I told you from the very beginning I will wait. I will wait as long as it takes.

Adrienne: Oh, you've been amazing.

Lucas: Listen, I understand that you're scared. I was scared too when I thought I was gonna lose you. Not when I thought I was gonna lose you to Justin, but I thought I was gonna lose you from this world. But that didn't happen, and here we are. We're together; you're happy; you're healthy; you're beautiful. And I am just thrilled; I'm thrilled to be with you. I don't care what we do. We don't have to do anything. I just want to be with you.

Adrienne: Oh. Oh, boy. I think it's time I answered your question. Am I ready? I am ready. I am so ready. [Laughs] Oh, baby.

Raines: Have a seat.

Eric: [Groans]

Raines: Okay. Here's what I know. You correct me if I'm wrong. Xander cook kidnapped Nicole walker and took her to a Greek island. Then your brother, Brady black, asked you to go to Greece to help free ms. Walker. And you managed to do that. Then you brought ms. Walker back to Salem and took her to the hospital to see Brady, who's dying.

Eric: No, he almost did. He's still hanging on.

Raines: Yeah, well, good for him. Now all that said, I know you have a record. Manslaughter's a damn serious crime, as far as I'm concerned. But you managed to somehow walk away without doing much time in prison.

Eric: Yeah, well, I was pardoned.

Raines: I don't care. All I care about is any crime that you've committed since then. Got it?

Eric. Yes, sir.

Nicole: We're back. And I know you're gonna live. You're gonna be okay. Because holly made sure Daniel's heart did what had to be done. I know it's gonna take some time, but you're gonna recover and live a full life. [Chuckles] I don't know how long I'll be in prison, but we're gonna be together, and that's a promise. Our day will come, Brady. It has to.

Steve: Yeah, what--ults yet? Okay, well, keep me posted.

Steve: I know that. There's gotta be something.

Kayla: Thank you.

Steve: Just keep looking. All right, ciao. How's Brady?

Kayla: No change. Which is good. So what about you? Anything more on the ghost that you're chasing?

Steve: No. Well, other than the fact that there are more sebastians in Europe than there are in the states. Uh, there's definitely something fishy going on here. Listen, don't say anything to Adrienne till I find out more, okay?

Kayla: Okay.

Steve: She's been through so much lately. No sense piling on.

Kayla: Agreed. Although you should know that I think things are looking up for her.

Steve: Oh, yeah?

Kayla: Yeah. We had a long talk about how great Lucas has been, how patient, and I think she's feeling a lot better.

Steve: You know something, baby?

Kayla: Hmm?

Steve: If Lucas and Adrienne are even half as happy as we are, they're two very lucky people.

Kayla: That's for sure.

Lucas: [Moans] Wow.

Adrienne: What?

Lucas: I get to look at you. I get to wallow in the great day this has turned out to be. That's what.

Adrienne: Oh, god. Oh, god. You make me so happy.

Lucas: Mmm. You make me happier, the happiest of all.

Adrienne: Mmm. It's crazy, right? Right? I mean, it feels like a new beginning. And it's so strange, man, I--this morning started out, I was scared and I was unsure, and, god, now I feel like I could do anything.

Lucas: You can. You can do anything. And I'll help you.

Adrienne: I'm the luckiest person in the world.

Lucas: Mm-mm.

Adrienne: Mm-hmm.

Lucas: No, I'm the luckiest person in the world, because I have you. Mm.

Adrienne: [Laughs]

[Phone ringing]

Raines: Ms. Horton.

Jennifer: No, I know. You need to talk to me now because I helped Eric.

Raines: No. I don't need to talk to you. It's pretty much cut and dry. Mr. Brady went to Greece. Took a lot of risk to free Nicole walker from being held against her will along with her baby. And he brought her back to Salem. Ms. Walker's back, that's what matters. You two are both free to go.

Rafe: Yes, sir. I understand. Well, I'll let 'em know. Well, just got off the phone with commissioner Raines, and there will be no charges against Eric.

Marlena: Oh, thank god.

Rafe: Yeah.

Marlena: Hmm.

[Monitor beeping]

Nicole: Well... Rafe is... he's waiting outside for me, so, uh, I'm gonna have to go soon. But at least this time, I am so happy. You're alive. You're gonna make it. I believe that with all my heart, Brady. Oh, my god. Oh, my god, Brady. Brady. Hi. Hi. [Laughs]

[Orchestral music]

 I saw her.
