Joey: Hey, man, uh, we're closing soon, if you wouldn't mind settling up.
Cory: It's all good, buddy. My mate told me he took care of it earlier.
Joey: Actually, all your friends left, and no one's taken care of the bill yet.
Cory: Yeah, ah, no, he told me.
Joey: I've been your waiter all night. I would know.
Cory: [Grunts] Are you calling me a liar?
Joey: Look, man, just-- just pay up, all right? I'll call you a taxi.
Cory: I don't need a taxi, and I'm not paying the bill. And what are you gonna do about it?
Rafe: Well, we can stay here all night, or we can do this the easy way and you can tell me the name of your supplier. Where'd you get the halo, snake?
Snake: I'm not saying a word.
Rafe: Mm-hmm. Okay.
Eli: Well, we'll skip the introductions since it looks like you two already know each other.
Pez: I don't know him.
Eli: Really? Huh. Well, you have a lot in common. For starters, you both got caught dealing halo on the street.
Rafe: Not looking very good for either one of you right now. But here's the good news. Agent grant and I are fair. We want to help you.
Eli: At least one of you, anyway.
Rafe: You see, we spoke with the DA, and he's offered a very generous deal to the guy who talks first. The other guy... going away for a long, long time.
Eli: So...snake, Pez. Pez, snake.
Eli: Who's it gonna be?
[Knock at door] Hi.
JJ: Thought you might be sleeping. How are you doing?
Lani: Better. Much better.
JJ: You have no idea how scared you had me.
Lani: Thanks for... having my back in that hotel room.
JJ: I just wish I'd gotten there earlier. You can't do that anymore, Lani-- shut me out and go off on your own. You have to tell me everything.
Lani: Okay, from-- from now on. I promise.
Hope: Hi, sweetheart. Where are you guys headed?
Abigail: We are on our way to see Lani at the hospital.
Hope: Hi. Do you want me to watch Thomas?
Abigail: Oh, thank you, no. I'm just gonna drop him off at mom's on the way.
Hope: Where's Chad?
Abigail: He is leaving tonight on a last-minute trip.
Hope: Oh. Business?
Abigail: I guess you could call it something like that.
Hope: Abigail, what is it?
Abigail: It's nothing. I-- you know, I really-- I shouldn't have even said anything.
Hope: No, no, no. Hold on. Hold on. Chad's up to something, isn't he? What kind of trouble is Chad getting himself into?
Harold: Mr. DiMera.
Harold: Let me get that for you, sir.
Chad: It's fine. I-I got it. I got it. I got it. I got it. [Clears throat] Harold, what's wrong?
Harold: I'm afraid I have some bad news, sir. Lazzaro will not be accompanying you on your trip.
Chad: He's supposed to be my security detail. What the--what do you mean?
Harold: Well, he was on his way here when he was involved in an accident.
Chad: Is--is he all right?
Harold: They took him to the hospital. His condition is serious but stable.
Chad: All right, well, um, I-I will-- I will go check on him before I head out to Greece. But now I got to find somebody else to be my security detail.
Harold: Uh, sir, that might prove difficult. None of your security team want to go on this mission.
Chad: What do you mean, they don't want to go with me?
Harold: The men, they've heard stories about the, uh, amulet.
Harold: I know it sounds silly, but people are saying that it's cursed.
Rafe: You guys do realize what it means that there is a federal agent in here with us, don't you?
Snake: Yeah. What are you gonna do, man, add more phony charges to my arrest?
Eli: Look, if you didn't do anything wrong, then why not cooperate? Look, we're giving you an opportunity here, snake. But you're only getting one. Tell me where you get your product.
Snake: [Sniffles] Gosh. Comes from Chicago. I get it from a middleman and ask no questions. But then again, you know, man, I'm--I'm just-- gosh, I'm just not real good with names anyway, so...
Eli: Not good with names. All right, well, maybe you're better with faces. [Grunts] Let's take a look at some mug shots, see if you recognize anyone, huh?
Snake: Easy on the threads there, chief. It's not--it's not cheap, man.
Rafe: Your pal snake is the one that poisoned a cop. And yet you're gonna let him stick you with the big sentence?
Pez: What if I told you I don't get my drugs from Chicago? My supplier is local.
Rafe: How local?
Pez: The halo comes from a lab right here in good old Salem.
Chad: Okay, so--so the people that I hire for my security detail who put their lives in danger on a daily basis are-- they're-- you're telling me they're spooked over some stories of a cursed amulet?
Harold: There are a lot of people who believe in this kind of thing, sir.
Chad: [Chuckles] Right. Okay, well, you know what? Then I'll go to Greece on my own and I'll retrieve the damn amulet myself. How about that?
Harold: Are you certain that's a good idea?
Chad: Harold, I will bring my lucky rabbit's foot, okay? Oh, and, Harold, what-- what, um-- what is--what's the box?
Chad: The box, the one that went crashing to the ground, what's in it?
Harold: Oh, that's the figurine you bought as a gift for Abigail, sir, to renew your vows.
Hope: Did he say where he was going on the trip? Do you know?
Abigail: He's going to Greece.
Hope: What's in Greece?
Abigail: Uh, you know, we're not together anymore, so what he does on his own is not really any of my concern.
Hope: You share a child.
Abigail: And he's a great father. And I really--I trust him to do whatever is best for Thomas.
Hope: Do you? Trust him? Abigail, I can see-- I can see that you're worried.
Abigail: I mean, even if I was, there's nothing I can really do about it. I walked away from him, and so he's on his own. He's gonna do what he wants, and he's not gonna listen to me, so I-- I should go. But it's really great to see you.
Hope: Yeah, you too, sweetheart. I love you.
Abigail: I love you. Okay, Thomas, let's go see grandma, okay? Say bye.
Hope: Bye, sweetheart.
Joey: The pub's closing. You need to pay up.
Cory: [Burps] [Sighs] I told you! The drinks are on the house! [Gasps] What the hell are you doing?
Joey: You're not leaving without paying.
Cory: Really? Yeah?
Tripp: Is there a problem here?
Let him go?
Joey: Tripp, it's all right.
Cory: How about you mind your own business? This is between me and the waiter.
Tripp: That waiter happens to be my little brother. So if you've got a problem with him, you've got a problem with me.
Cory: That's fine too. [Grunting] Get off me! Get off me!
Tripp: Not yet.
Joey: Oh, all right, your total's gonna be $68.73. Let's make that an even $80 with the tip. You caused your server a lot of trouble, sir.
Cory: [Yelling indistinctly] [Grunting]
Tripp: Yeah, well, our business is done here.
Joey: Don't come back. You are not welcome.
Tripp: Have a great night. [Laughs]
Joey: Dude, that was awesome. How'd you learn to do that?
Tripp: Oh, practice. I've been in a lot of fights.
Tripp: Learned a good lesson from your uncle roman a couple weeks ago too.
Joey: You want to teach me how?
Tripp: You want to learn?
Joey: Yeah. Of course, man. I'm the rugby player, right?
Tripp: All right.
Steve: Whoa! What are you boys up to?
[Knock at door]
Kayla: Come in. Hello, jade.
Jade: Hi. I'm so glad you called. I've actually been meaning to talk to you and Steve about something.
Jade: You guys have been so supportive of me going to college and getting a degree, and I can never repay you for that. But it's been getting really hard to get to my classes on time. And I can't always ask for rides, and the bus is so unreliable.
Kayla: What are you asking?
Jade: It just think it'd be easier if I had a car. I mean, nothing fancy. Any used clunker would be fine.
Jade: I just want to get good grades and prove to you that it was worth it.
Kayla: You know what, jade? We are not getting you a car. In fact, we aren't getting you anything ever again. And as of this moment, we are done paying your tuition too.
Jade: You're cutting me off?
Kayla: We are cutting you out of our life. And you brought this on yourself.
Lani: How did Raines react when he found out you tracked me on my phone? He couldn't have been happy you broke protocol.
JJ: He's just glad we caught snake... and that you're okay.
Lani: Did snake give anything up?
[Knock at door]
Abigail: Hey. Well, look at you. You're just in the hospital for a few hours and you're already just itching to get back out on the street, huh?
JJ: No, she still needs to recover.
Lani: Can you tell your brother I'm fine?
JJ: You promised you wouldn't argue about staying in here.
Lani: I lied. Well, I wouldn't want either one of you to get busted by the nurse. She's a tough one.
JJ: Kicking us out?
Lani: You caught on to that, huh?
JJ: Are you sure you want us to go?
Abigail: Hey, JJ, she seems pretty sure, okay?
JJ: I'll be back in the morning. Call if there's anything you need or--or if things get worse.
Lani: Hey, I'm good, partner.
[Soft dramatic music]
Abigail: Take care of yourself, okay?
Chad: Okay. Well, uh, just make sure the plane is ready to go, and I will be there as soon as I can. Right. Thank you.
Hope: Is it me, or is Harold a little jumpy today? Hey.
Chad: [Chuckles] Hi. Yeah, uh, just something going-- going around.
Hope: Yeah. Hi.
Chad: Hi. What can I do for you?
Hope: Oh, I...
Chad: [Clears throat]
Hope: I just wanted to see how you were. Have you heard from your father?
Chad: I haven't, no. I don't--I don't expect to either.
Hope: Chad, I promised I was gonna look out for you.
Hope: So... how are you doing?
Chad: I--never better.
Hope: [Sighs] I was so sorry to hear about your breakup.
Chad: Breakup. [Clears throat] Um, no, Abby, she left me. Again. [Chuckles]
Hope: I'm sorry. I really am. [Chuckles] Looks like you're going on a little trip. Business or pleasure?
Hope: I trust if it's business, it's all aboveboard, right?
Chad: Why are you asking?
Hope: I'm just looking out for you.
Chad: It seems like you're asking for--for a reason. My guess is, probably Abigail told you what I was doing on my trip. What'd she say? My sweetheart's gone sayonara.
Hope: All she said was that you re going on a trip. That's it.
Chad: Well, then what makes you so, um--so suspicious?
Hope: Well, I wasn't, but I certainly am now. You've got my attention. Why are you so defensive?
Chad: I'm not. I'm not. It's just a simple business transaction, that's it. In fact, I'm gonna e before you know it.
Hope: Didn't hear you say it's not illegal. Chad... you know what? I, uh--I have to finish packing, if you don't-- if you don't mind, I just have a lot of stuff to do here.
Hope: You know, Chad, I won't telling you what to do. All can do is tell you to be careful. And there's no such thing as a simple transaction. Someone always ends getting hurt.
Chad: Are you warning me as a--as a friend
a cop? S it going, living on your own?
Abigail: Hmm. It's, um, different. Yeah. But I really--I like my job at the station. And I feel like, for the first time in--I don't know-- maybe ever, that my--my life is actually my own.
JJ: I'm so proud of you.
Abigail: [Chuckles] Thanks. What about you, hmm? You thinking about moving out anytime soon, giving up mom doing your laundry?
JJ: I do my own laundry.
JJ: Some of the time.
Abigail: Right, exactly.
Abigail: But seriously, what about you and Lani? Are things serious?
JJ: Serious? Oh, I don't know. I just like being around her. For now, I'm just gonna enjoy it and see where it goes.
Abigail: Well, I think that that's probably reasonable. As long as, you know, she knows that that's what you want.
[Knock at door]
Eli: Lani? Hey, Lani, are you okay? You need me to call someone?
Lani: No, no!
Eli: No, something's wrong. Look, I need--I'm gonna call someone, all right?
Lani: No, no, please. Please. Please keep this to yourself. Don't tell anyone how bad it is.
Joey: So this guy's got me by the shirt, right? He's maybe--I don't know-- 6'5", 245?
Tripp: Bigger. I'd say 7 feet tall and a good 350.
Steve: Whoa, 7 feet tall, huh?
Joey: Oh, at least.
Joey: So this giant has got me by the throat, and I'm thinking, "this could be it." And then Tripp comes out of nowhere, and he's like, "you got a problem?" [Laughter] It was pretty sweet.
Tripp: And I actually didn't even have a plan after that. So the guy drops Joey and charges at me.
Joey: Yeah, and Tripp does this weird jujitsu move where, like, he dodges the shot and grabs him behind the back. Why are you looking at us like that?
Steve: Well... [Sighs] Because this is the part where I'm supposed to tell you fighting is not always the answer.
Steve: And you could've really gotten yourselves hurt.
Joey: Come on. That meathead had it coming. You would've done the same thing.
Steve: That's beside the point.
Tripp: No, no, no, that is the point.
Steve: Acorn doesn't fall far from the tree, huh?
Tripp: I mean, if you-- if you would have walked into this place and saw that gorilla holding on to Joey, you wouldn't have just tried to talk it out.
Steve: I might have.
Tripp: Yeah, well, not me. I'm never gonna stop standing up for the underdog. And I'm thinking I might have gotten that from you.
Steve: Maybe you did. That's definitely something that runs in our family.
Jade: You're cutting me out of your lives? Why? What did I do?
Kayla: I ran into your mother this morning at the gym. She told me how terrible she felt about what happened with your father at the hospital after the surgery.
Kayla: She also told me that, um, she really missed you and that she had reached out to you recently and offered you money and a place to stay. In fact, she even offered to pay your tuition and get you a car.
Jade: I can explain that.
Kayla: All this time, you made us believe that you had nothing-- no family support, no one to back you up. And it was all a big, fat lie.
Jade: No, I just--I didn't want to take money from them.
Kayla: Oh, so it was fine to take money from us? Because that way, Joey would think that you had nothing and he would feel sorry for you. You traded on our empathy. You used us, jade.
Jade: Kayla, please--
Kayla: You will not get one more cent from me or Steve. And I am no longer your doctor. You can contact dr. Menendez for any future follow-ups. I have sent along your files on the transplant. Here's his card. Good-bye, jade.
Jade: Does Joey know that you're doing this? 'Cause I'm not sure he'd think it's such a good idea to cross me. This time it's his turn.
Kayla: Are you threatening me? Are you saying that if I cut you off, you're gonna reveal Joey's secret?
Jade: Is that what you think of me, that I'd tell Tripp that Joey killed his mother?
Kayla: It certainly sounded like it.
Jade: I love Joey. I would never do anything to hurt him, no matter how awful you're treating me.
Kayla: You got to accept the fact that Joey is never coming back to you.
Jade: You're wrong. Joey loves me, even if he won't admit it. What we had when I was carrying our baby, that was special. I felt so loved and protected.
Kayla: That is no excuse for all the lies.
Jade: Maybe not, but I did it for the right reason. I did it for love. You of all people should understand that.
Eli: Here, drink this. It'll help flush the drugs through your system.
Lani: Now you're an expert on withdrawal?
Eli: No, but I know you need to tell the doctors what's going on so they can help you through your symptoms.
Lani: No. Okay? No more drugs. I can gut this out.
Eli: Why would you want to?
Lani: What are you doing here, anyway? You're just waiting around to watch me throw up again?
Eli: There's the Lani that I remember. I'm glad to see you've hung on to your sparkling personality.
Lani: What do you want?
Eli: Rafe and I interrogated snake and another dealer named Pez. We got some leads on a distributor, but... it would help if you can remember anything from the night that you got drugged.
Lani: The halo wiped out everything. But once I get out of here, I can help you guys run down the leads.
Eli: Rafe and I will be just fine. You just take some time to recover.
Lani: I don't have time. If I take off from work, people will think I can't handle the job.
Eli: That's not true.
Lani: You wouldn't understand. A woman on the job has to prove herself every single day.
Eli: Lani, you have nothing to prove. I mean, you are anything but weak. I mean, you risked your life to help save those missing women. In my book, that makes you a hero.
Hope: Chad, I'm here as your friend, family. You and Abigail may not be together right now, but you're still family.
Chad: Appreciate your concern.
Hope: Fine. You don't have to tell me what you're doing. But I pray that you think before you act. What do you want to be, hmm, as a man, as a father?
Chad: Okay. Good-bye, hope.
Chad: I will see you as soon as I get back.
Hope: Don't for-- don't forget the promise I made to you. You need me, you call me.
Chad: I need to see you. Now.
Abigail: Hey. Hi. What--what's so urgent?
Chad: Uh, so I got a unexpected visit from hope with some very pointed questions about my travel plans. Now, I really don't appreciate my wife calling the cops on me.
Steve: Oh! Well, let's just hope that big old giant rugby player doesn't come back tomorrow with the whole team, huh?
Tripp: You don't think Joey and I could take the whole squad?
Joey: We need to recruit the old man.
Steve: Oh--oh, no. You leave me out of it.
Joey: He's our secret weapon. I'm gonna go lock up in the back.
Steve: All right. Hey, Tripp. I want to thank you for sticking up for your little brother.
Tripp: Yeah, Joey's a-- he's a good guy.
Steve: Yeah, he is. You know, in our family, we put a lot of stock in looking out for each other. So it means a lot, what you did. I hope we can do the same for you someday. Well, I better get going. Kayla's waiting. You listen to me, dudes. No more brawls tonight! All right?
Joey: We'll do our best.
Steve: Be good.
Tripp: [Chuckles] What?
Joey: You and dad getting along. It's a good thing.
Tripp: Yeah, I guess I'm just starting to understand him a little better. Helps me appreciate why he's done some of the things he's done.
Kayla: Don't you dare compare yourself to me and Steve. I never lied or manipulated to hold on to him. What you have with Joey is not love. It's an obsession.
Jade: I do love him. He makes my life better. He's in my soul, and I know if he just gave me a chance--
Kayla: No, you are out of chances, jade. I want you to stay far away from my son.
Jade: You can't keep me away from Joey or anyone else. I'll see who I want, and there's nothing you can do about that.
Kayla: Do you really believe that?
Jade: Joey's not your little boy anymore. And in the end, he'll choose me, and you'll be sorry.
Kayla: You have lost, jade. Admit it. Now just move on and leave us alone. Good-bye.
[Soft dramatic music]
Eli: Your partner deserves to know what you're going through. He can help.
Lani: JJ won't understand. He'll try to force me to quit the case or maybe even take a leave from the force.
Eli: We all worry about our partners. Plus, JJ is crazy about you.
Lani: I guess.
Eli: You gue-- what do you mean, you guess? Look, I've seen you two together.
Lani: I'm not saying we're not good. I just-- I don't think JJ sees it going anywhere. Why am I even telling you this?
Eli: I've been told I'm a good listener.
Lani: Well, you've been lied to. Blabbing about personal details is just a symptom of withdrawal. Listen, everything that I just said right now is off the record.
Eli: Okay. Your secret is safe with me. No one ever has to know that you have a human side.
Lani: [Groans] Just go! Go!
Eli: No, Lani, listen! I know you're a superhero, all right? But I've seen you without your cape on. You have nothing to prove to me. If you need me to stay here while you ride this withdrawal out, I am here for you.
Abigail: First of all, hope--not "the cops." She's family. And I didn't send her to the mansion.
Chad: Well, she had quite the agenda, so you must've said something.
Abigail: I said that I was worried about you. Chad, what you're doing is illegal, and I really-- I don't want to watch you get locked up for it.
Chad: Okay, well, why is it that you care?
Abigail: Are you really, really asking me that? I still love you, Chad. I mean, we have a son. I'm always gonna love you.
Chad: Just not enough to work on our marriage.
Abigail: No, because sometimes... it's not enough. And it took me a really long time to realize that we just don't belong together.
Chad: Okay, well, then you have no right to question my choices.
Abigail: Fine. Then you go, and you do whatever it is that you just have to do.
[Soft dramatic music]
Chad: [Chuckles] I got a package, uh, in the mail today. And, uh--and I-I-I had gotten it while we were planning to renew our vows. It's this--this-- this little porcelain figurine. As beautiful as it is fragile. It reminded me of us, okay? Um... so I knocked it off of the table, and it--and it-- it broke into a bunch of pieces. So I'm-- look, I'm telling you this because... no matter how broken something appears to be, you can always put it back together again. Everything can be fixed.
Abigail: Not everything. [Sighs]
Kayla: [Laughs] What are those for?
Steve: Oh, come on, baby. Flowers don't always have to be for a special occasion. Sometimes a husband just wants to bring his beautiful wife flowers. And sometimes all he wants in return... is a kiss. Mmm, yummy.
Kayla: Well, you're in a good mood.
Steve: Yeah. Joe and Tripp got in a fight tonight.
Steve: No, no, not with each other. Tripp stood up for Joe, and I think he took a big step forward.
Kayla: Joey and Tripp?
Steve: Yeah. And me and Tripp. Listen, I know, uh, we've got a big hurdle to clear. But I'm starting to think that this could work out. That, you know, me taking the blame for Ava's death might not keep him away forever.
Kayla: I'm happy for you. And I know how much you want this. But I'm afraid we might have another problem.
Tripp: Hey, I-I got your text. What's wrong?
Jade: You have no idea how awful Kayla just was to me.
Jade: Because she's Joey's mother and she thinks that I'm not good enough for him. I mean, she acted like she cared about me, and she doesn't at all. None of them do. That family! I mean, you would think, after everything that I've done for them, how I protected them, that--
Tripp: Whoa, whoa, what do you mean? How have you protected them?
Jade: Nothing. Forget it.
Tripp: You kept a secret for them, didn't you?
Jade: I didn't say that.
Tripp: Is it about my mother? You know more about her death than you're letting on, don't you? Please, jade, just-- just tell me the truth.
Hope: Hey. Hi. Egg drop soup, sesame chicken, lo mein, wontons, no MSG. Did I miss anything?
Rafe: Crushed it. Hey, can't believe it's dinnertime already.
Hope: Yeah. I know. Good thing I called, right? I thought you'd be leaving the office by now.
Rafe: Mm, no. Too many damn leads on this halo case. You going to, uh, stay and join me?
Hope: Uh, yeah, sure. Okay. Um, for a little while. I...have a flight to catch to Greece, so I have a million things I've got to do.
Rafe: Did you-- Greece?
Rafe: Since when are we going to Greece?
Hope: Well, it just happened. It just--a last-minute decision. I have to do a little reconnaissance mission. It's Chad. He's up to something, and I'm afraid he's gonna get himself into big trouble.
Rafe: Huh. Okay. Uh, what if he is?
Hope: Well, maybe I can stop him before he goes too far.
Kayla: I know it wasn't smart to antagonize jade, but she made me so mad. I mean, all the lies that she told us.
Steve: And she just stormed out of here?
Kayla: Well, first she told me that I couldn't stop her from seeing Joey or anybody else that she wanted. [Sighs] That girl is trouble.
Steve: And she's living with Tripp.
Kayla: I'm sorry. I have put our family now in a lot of danger.
Steve: No, no, no. Come on, baby. You've got nothing to apologize for. You were just defending our family, like you always do.
Kayla: But if jade talks--
Steve: Then we'll deal with it together, okay? We're gonna keep our family safe. I promise. Come on.
[Soft dramatic music]
Jade: I already told you everything I know about Ava's death.
Tripp: Okay, how about this? You don't say anything, and I'll lay out my theory. If I'm wrong, you tell me.
Tripp: You told me Steve did what he did to protect someone he loves. Right before my mother died, she was convinced that Kayla was trying to kill her. We all know how much Steve loves Kayla. He'd do anything for her, right? Including taking a murder rap?
Jade: Are you asking me if Kayla killed Ava?
Tripp: Did she? Is that what happened, jade?
