Paul: Hi. Thanks for meeting me here.
Marlena: Of course. Uh, your text sounded urgent. Is something wrong?
Paul: I have something to give to you.
Marlena: All right. From whom?
Paul: I can't say, but I need you to trust me.
Marlena: I do trust you. I don't understand, though.
Paul: You will.
Marlena: [Gasps] Are you serious?
Jade: You're home.
Jade: That's it? "Hey" and you walk right by?
Joey: What do you want me to say?
Jade: Are you still mad at me?
Joey: I wouldn't say mad. More like disappointed.
Jade: So I... had a little to drink.
Joey: Do you really not get what you did wrong? You said you wanted to help Tripp accept my family, and then my mom and I caught you drinking with him.
Jade: I made a mistake. Tell me what I can do to make up for it.
Tripp: So it'll be a few days before I get the inheritance from my mother?
Gene: Give or take. Per Mr. Vitali's orders, you'll receive your inheritance in increments. Like a very generous allowance.
Tripp: Sure, sure. All right. Well, hey, do you want a drink to celebrate? I'm buying.
Gene: Oh, no thank you, but I'll be in touch.
Tripp: Well, you're just in time. I was about to buy a round of drinks for everyone in the pub. [Chuckles] Why not? I'm about to be rich. [Chuckles]
Do yourself a favor: Say no to that money.
Jade: Means a lot that you're worried about me. I'm so sorry about Tripp. I know how important it is for your dad to have a relationship with him.
Joey: It's important to my whole family.
[Knocking on door]
Kayla: Hi. Is this a bad time?
Joey: It's fine. What's up?
Kayla: Well, I was at the market and I thought I'd pick you guys up a few things.
Kayla: How are you feeling, jade?
Jade: I'm good.
Kayla: Um, well, when I left the hospital I stopped and filled the prescription for your new pain medication. There you go.
Jade: Thanks. I could use one of those right now.
Kayla: Are you in pain?
Jade: Think I just pushed myself too hard. Just need to take it easy.
Kayla: Well, make sure you follow the directions on the bottle, okay? Only take with food and just one a day, okay? I don't want you getting sick like last time.
[Light dramatic music]
Steve: You know, I had a talk with, uh, Ava's cousin, Angelo.
Tripp: Oh, so you know how my mother's family's being very... generous with me.
Steve: You don't want that inheritance.
Tripp: [Chuckles] Actually, I really do. No one in their right mind would turn down that much money.
Steve: That money comes with strings, you know. That's blood money.
Tripp: The Vitalis are my blood. As much as you are. My mother would have wanted me to have it.
Steve: Do you know where that money comes from? Not from your mother. Not even from Angelo. Ava's father built that fortune by being a ruthless criminal. The man was a stone cold killer who tortured his own daughter. But don't forget, he's the one who forced your mother to give you up.
Tripp: Then he owes me this money. For everything he did to me and my mom.
Steve: Listen, Tripp, once you take their money--
Tripp: My--my money. It's my money. Why--why are you so against me taking this, anyway? Because then I won't need you?
Steve: No. That's not why.
Tripp: From the moment I met you, you've given me your side of the story. I bet you wish I never even saw those DVDs that she made for me.
Steve: I didn't know they existed.
Tripp: You do now. And I want them back.
Steve: I'm glad you brought that up. I wanted to talk to you about Ava's videos.
Tripp: [Chuckles] Let me guess. She was crazy, she never loved me, and everything on those discs is a lie.
Steve: No. Actually, when I saw Ava on the videos, I realized I should have told you more about your mother. I left some things out.
Sonny: Hey. You know, you have no idea how happy I am to talk to someone about anything other than dress sketches and runway shows.
Paul: Rough start at basic black?
Sonny: You know, it turns out, jumping in as CEO on a business you know nothing about has its challenges.
Paul: Who knew?
Sonny: Deimos knew, that's why he put me here.
Paul: [Chuckles] It can't be that bad.
Sonny: Paul, I've been doing this for a week-- we're already a month behind on distribution and manufacturing. The whole thing's a mess.
Paul: Okay, that's pretty rough. Look, I need you to take a break, though.
Sonny: I can't. I just have too much to do.
Paul: No, you're gonna want to take a break for this, I promise. I have some good news.
Sonny: Nicole's back and she's gonna run basic black?
Paul: Better. No, I have information that might help us finally take down your uncle Deimos.
Steve: When I met your mother she was happy. She was, uh-- she was like a free spirit. Just wild. And we did fall in love. We were supposed to be married. I was abducted just minutes before the wedding. And she thought I left her at the altar. She was devastated. I was having a bit of a rough time myself. People who abducted me put me through hell. And as a result, that happy season of my life with your mother was a suppressed memory for a long time. I was gone when she found out she was pregnant. And shortly after you were born, her father snatched you away from her and she never saw you again. Now, God only knows what that did to her inside. All I know is, she spiraled out of control. She was crazed with grief and from the drugs Martina was pumping into her.
Tripp: Then it wasn't her fault. Her father drove her crazy.
Steve: That's partly true, but then she got clean. And after I did everything I could to make peace with her, she couldn't let go.
Tripp: She still loved you?
Steve: It was obsession. And the last time she came back to Salem, you know what she did? She pretended she had cancer and then she abducted Kayla and almost killed her. I know, Tripp. I know it's natural for you to want to think of your mother as a good person. And she was in the beginning, but in the end, Ava was dangerous. She was a threat to my entire family.
Tripp: Yeah? [Quietly] Prove it.
Kayla: So what are you guys doing tonight?
Jade: Well, I was hoping that Joey would join me on a trip to Azeroth. Our guild is supposed to be hopping on the headsets for a big mission tonight.
Kayla: I have no idea what that means.
Joey: It's a video game that I don't have time to play because I have to study for my western civ test.
Jade: Come on. Just for a little while?
Joey: I'll see you later, mom?
Kayla: Uh, sure. Well, study hard and call me if you need some help.
Kayla: Okay. Feel better, jade.
Jade: Thanks for bringing my medicine.
Kayla: Oh, anytime.
Jade: They're waiting for us. Can't you just play for a half hour?
Joey: I told you, I have to study. I don't have time to play games tonight.
The noble tortilla was created thousands of years ago Now, I know Deimos doesn't do a lot of business by email, but I kept monitoring his accounts just in case.
Sonny: You found something we can use?
Paul: Maybe. Here, take a look at this. See if any of it means anything to you.
Sonny: Let's see. "Everything is set at the homestead. We are ready for the delivery of the artifacts"?
Sonny: I mean, Chad stole deimos's illegal artifact business, so he must--he must have found another source.
Paul: And he's having it delivered here?
Sonny: By "homestead," he's not talking about the mansion. He knows that I'm watching. He would never have anything incriminating sent there.
Paul: Okay, so where else is "home" for Deimos?
Sonny: Greece? For a Kiriakis, you know, that is home.
Paul: Of course! Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's see, uh-- let's see if uncle Deimos has anything going on in Greece.
Kayla: Put those down, jade.
Jade: What are you talking about?
Kayla: I told you to take one pill a day. That was a lot more than one.
Jade: No, I went to get one and a bunch fell out of the bottle.
Kayla: Do you really expect me to believe that?
Joey: Thought you left, Mom. What's going on?
Kayla: Do you want to tell him, or shall I?
Jade: There's nothing to tell.
Kayla: You know, jade, I have been around a long time, and uh, you want to maybe stop lying to Joey and have an honest conversation?
Jade: Your mom walked in as I was about to take a couple of pills.
Kayla: It was a lot more than a couple.
Joey: What are you doing? Are you trying to kill yourself?
Jade: No. Of course not.
Kayla: I think that jade is trying to stay sick.
Kayla: Because if she stays sick, then you have to take care of her. Am I right, jade?
Joey: Is she right? I need you to tell me the truth right now.
Tripp: How do I know you're telling the truth about my mother?
Steve: Well, I didn't come here to, uh, dig up old wounds about Ava.
Tripp: No, no, no, you came to say that she was a crazed psycho who tried to kill your entire family and that I should just believe you. Well, what if I don't? What if I don't trust anything you say anymore?
Steve: I didn't want you to have to see this, Tripp. You want proof?
Tripp: What is this?
Steve: That's what we called Ava's secret room. We found it after she went off the rails. I told you she was fixated on me and Kayla. So she had all these pictures up and she wrote messages on them, love poems, threats, all kinds of crazy stuff.
Tripp: Is that a mannequin head?
Steve: With a patch on it. Ava was a sick woman, Tripp. We don't know how long she had that room. We don't know how long she was in Salem stalking us before we found her, but this... this is the work of a troubled mind. In the room above that, that's where she held my wife hostage after she kidnapped her.
Tripp: But--but I saw the video. She--she wasn't always like that.
Steve: No. And believe me, when she came back, I tried to see the best in her. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, but when she started coming after my family again, that was it.
Tripp: O-okay, so she did-- she did bad things, right? But she wasn't evil.
Steve: Okay, Tripp, listen--
Tripp: No, no, no, she was sick. All right, even you admit that. You loved her once, right? Well, why didn't you try to help her? You could've saved my mother, but instead, you put a pillow over her face and held it there until she was dead.
Marlena: [Sighs] What's taking so long?
[Door lock beeps]
[Light, uplifting music]
You're here. You're really here.
John: Long time, no see, doc.
John: It's okay.
Marlena: I can't believe you're in the room.
John: It's okay. It's okay. I'm sorry for all the cloak and dagger stuff.
Marlena: Yeah, well, how long do we have?
John: Let's just make the most of every moment.
Marlena: I can do that.
Jade: You really think I'd OD on pills just to keep Joey by my side?
Kayla: I saw the look on your face when Joey said that he had to study.
Jade: Yeah, I was disappointed. Doesn't mean that I decided to make myself sick.
Kayla: How long are you gonna keep this up, jade?
Jade: I can't believe this. I mean, you know that I'm recovering from major surgery. You brought me those pills because I need them.
Kayla: They are placebo.
Kayla: I suspected that you took too many on purpose last time and I didn't want to take the risk.
Jade: You tricked me? You were setting me up.
Kayla: No. I was trying to keep you safe.
Jade: [Scoffs] I trusted you.
Kayla: You want to talk about trust? We took you into our family. We believed in you. And for you to risk your health because you wanted to get close to a guy-- I'm not even sure you know how wrong that is.
Jade: You don't understand what I'm going through.
Kayla: No, I understand perfectly. You felt that you were losing Joey, and you were desperate to hang on to him.
Jade: No, that's not what this is. You believe me, don't you?
Steve: [Sighs] I... didn't want to take Ava's life. I had no choice; the ISA deemed her a threat.
Tripp: You could have said no.
Steve: If there was anything I could have done to stop it, I-I would have stopped it.
Tripp: What does--what does that even mean? You're acting like you're not even the one who murdered her.
Steve: Okay. I know it's practically impossible for you to trust me right now. It must feel like I'm just some guy telling you what to do and how to think. I don't know, maybe like your adoptive father.
Tripp: Only, if I didn't do what he said, he'd knock me around.
Steve: My old man hit me too. He would knock me down and say it was for my own good. He did it because he cared about me. And he was the only one who cared about me. [Laughs] That kind of thing really messes with your head, doesn't it?
Steve: You start to think that everyone's like him. Everyone's out to get you, even the people who say they're on your side. Makes it hard to trust anyone.
Tripp: I trust myself. That's enough.
Steve: I used to think that too. Till I met Kayla. Yeah, she turned it all around for me. She taught me that there are good people in this world. Families who love each other, take care of each other. Tripp, you don't have to be alone anymore. I can't offer you bags of money like Angelo, but I can be a father to you, and you can have a real family. Have a brother and a sister you can count on, a-and a step-mother who is the most loving, selfless person I've ever known. All you got to do is let us in a little bit. But you have to decide what's more important-- that money or a good family?
Paul: Okay. So we have a few possible locations of where deimos's homestead may be in Greece. Take a look.
Sonny: I mean, none of these addresses mean anything to me.
Paul: Okay, so just have the European contact scope that out for us.
Sonny: Okay, and I'll work on finding out what kind of artifact Deimos might be expecting. You know, in the meantime, can I buy you a drink to thank you for all your hard work? I mean it.
Paul: No, you don't have to thank me. But a drink does sound good.
Sonny: I know you wish I would just keep my head down and leave Deimos alone.
Paul: And I know you're never gonna do that.
Sonny: Doesn't mean you have to help me put a target on my back.
Paul: Well, I told you, if you're all in, then I'm in it with you, for better or worse.
Sonny: [Chuckles] Oh, that sounds like a marriage. "For better"--
Paul: Yeah, well, don't awkwardly laugh. [Chuckles] I'm not afraid of what we have, Sonny. Not anymore.
Sonny: Neither am I. I'm not afraid of Deimos. This might sound crazy, but I feel like as long as you're by my side, he doesn't stand a chance.
Kayla: Well, I've said everything I need to say, so... I'll let the two of you work it out.
Jade: You're wrong about me, Dr. Johnson. I'll prove it.
Kayla: I hope so, jade. I'll talk to you later, Joey.
[Light instrumental music]
Joey: You can't lock the door. She pays our rent; she has a key.
Jade: I can't believe she did that. I mean, we were doing fine, and then she came in and--
Joey: Caught you with a bunch of pills?
Jade: Let me explain.
Joey: I-I don't want explanations. I'm still waiting on the truth.
Jade: Okay. You want the truth, Joey? The truth is, I'm scared and I'm lonely and I miss you. Even when you're standing right in front of me, I miss you. I miss what we had when it was you, me, and our baby and we had such a bright future. Losing that and the complications from the surgery and everything that happened with my dad-- I'm sorry, I just wanted to be happy again. Like we used to be.
Joey: So you take a bunch of pills to make yourself sick? So what? So-- so I have to keep taking care of you?
Jade: Joey, I love you. When you're looking after me, everything in my life feels right, like nothing else matters. But when you're cold and distant--
Joey: Look, you lied to me, okay, and you used my mom.
Jade: I'm sorry.
Joey: It's not about being sorry. It's about hearing what I have to say. I've said it over and over again. How many more times do I have to say it? I don't love you.
Tripp: So what happens if I take the money from the Vitalis? You done with me?
Steve: Of course not. You're my son; I'll never be done with you. But I want you to think about what that inheritance means.
Tripp: It means that I can finally stop living paycheck to paycheck, working in diners, always being behind on my bills.
Steve: It also means you'll be beholden to that family. They're the ones that'll be paying your bills, buy your house. Don't forget, they're the ones who changed Ava. They took that sweet, hopeful young woman you saw on those DVDs and they turned her into something vicious, someone who could put together that horrible room. I don't want to see anything like that happen to you, Tripp.
Tripp: None of this makes any sense.
Steve: I know. It's all come down on you way too fast. So... you think about things, about that money, about me, but just know that I'll always be here for you, no matter what.
Tripp: Even if I don't do what you say?
Steve: It's your life. I just want to be a part of it. So you, uh, you staying in Salem?
Tripp: For now. At least until the lawyer gets the inheritance processed. [Clears throat]
Steve: Okay. You know, I was, uh, thinking about picking up some pizza on the way home, taking it to Kayla. How'd you like to come over and break bread with us?
Tripp: Not tonight. I need to think. [Clears throat]
Steve: Okay. Maybe another time.
Tripp: We'll see.
Marlena: [Sighs] [Chuckles] I guess I can't ask you anything about your mission--
John: [Chuckles] Yeah, you're good. I know where you're going with this. You get me into bed, lower my defenses, and now you think you're gonna get me to talk, don't you?
Marlena: Oh, you're good too.
Marlena: Okay, one question.
Marlena: Are you safe?
John: I am... never safer than when I'm holding you in my arms.
Marlena: That's not what I was asking--
John: You know I can't answer that, doc.
Marlena: You know I wouldn't tell anybody. Nobody even knows that I'm with you right now. Think I'm getting pretty good at being the wife of an agent. Do you know that I helped lure Stefano out of hiding?
John: You're the smartest, bravest woman I've ever known-- nothing new there.
Marlena: Hmm. Don't you want to tell me stuff? I mean, don't you want to talk to somebody?
John: Not if it's gonna put you in danger. That's why I can't tell you anything.
Marlena: Okay, then. No more questions.
John: I've got a question, sweetheart.
John: How are you?
Marlena: I miss my husband.
John: Oh. And he misses you so much.
Marlena: You know, sometimes I think that I've gotten used to you not being there. And in the middle of the night, I'll roll over and in my sleep, I'll reach out for you. Touch your pillow. And then it starts all over again. And I can't even breathe.
John: I'm sorry, doc.
Marlena: I know that you will come home to me as soon as you possibly can.
John: That's a fact. And that's what I concentrate on every day; just get this damn job done and get home to your wife.
Marlena: Mm. Maybe I can give you a little motivation.
Sonny: Wow. No one ever warned me how people in the fashion industry are so vicious. I don't know who's more dangerous; uncle Vic, a felon, or Mila, the pissed-off shoe designer.
Paul: You know, I think I'll just take my chances with Deimos. At least with him we have the police on our side.
Sonny: How did we get here?
Paul: Oh, we were just in the town square. We walked around the corner--
Sonny: I didn't mean it that way.
Paul: [Laughs] I know what you meant. Um, I mean, it's just life, you know? Doesn't turn out the way you expect it to, does it?
Sonny: No. Can't say running basic black was ever in the plans for me.
Paul: You know, when baseball went away, I, uh-- I didn't think there'd be anything I'd care as much about, ever again. But I, uh-- I found a life after sports.
Sonny: Yeah, it's-- it's different for me. All this stuff with Deimos made me realize how much I want to run titan, turn things around for my family. I've found what I want to do with my life. And I've found who I want to spend it with.
Paul: Bet you weren't planning for that either.
Sonny: I wasn't, but falling back in love with you is even better because it was unexpected.
Tripp: Hey! Hey. Uh, uh, bring me another pint.
Roman: You sure about that, pal?
Tripp: Hey, no-- no, no, no. You know what, bartender? You're right. Let's make it a pitcher. The most expensive IPA you have on tap. ASAP!
Roman: No. No, no. No more. My bartender shouldn't have given you as much as she did. I will have a talk with her, but right now, why don't I call you a car?
Tripp: Get me my drink, or I can get it myself.
Roman: Okay, how about this? How about I just bring you a big bowl of chowder, how's that?
Tripp: No, no, no, no. I don't--I don't like chowder, all right. It's just a soup with a fancy name, anyway. But you wouldn't know that because you don't know me. All right, nobody in this town knows me!
Roman: All right, hey, hey. Just pull yourself together.
Tripp: No, no, I don't have to listen to you.
Roman: Hey, take it easy. Just sit, okay? Take it easy.
Tripp: Hey, don't touch me! [Grunts] [Growls] Let go!
John: Time to go, Doc.
Marlena: What? Wait, wait. You gotta get back to the mission now?
John: Yeah, I'm afraid so, honey.
Marlena: But--but it seems like you just got here. It's so soon.
John: I know. I know, but we're gonna be seeing each other again real soon.
Marlena: Yeah. Promise?
John: Of course.
Marlena: No. Promise me.
John: Doc, I promise you. I am coming home to you real soon.
Paul: You're gonna be an amazing CEO, Sonny. You're gonna change everything because that's what you do. Just like you changed my life. And one day, when Deimos is in prison and we're hanging out on a yacht in the Aegean, this is all gonna be worth it.
Sonny: When you say it like that, I really believe you.
Paul: [Laughs] Well, I believe it too. I know you're gonna do great things for titan. You have succeeded in everything you've ever put your mind to.
Sonny: This time we're gonna do it together.
Joey: I don't know how else to get through to you.
Jade: I know we had our problems, but I still believe that we have something.
Joey: It's over, jade. You need to face it.
Jade: No. What we had was too strong. It doesn't just go away like that.
Joey: It did for me. And I've tried to be nice about it, but you keep taking advantage of my kindness. I didn't want to have to do this, but you leave me no other choice.
Jade: Do what?
Joey: You need to move out. I want you out of my life.
Steve: Hey, sweetness.
Kayla: Hey, you.
Kayla: Ooh, thank you.
Steve: You're welcome.
Kayla: How'd it go with Tripp?
Steve: Well... I did the best I could. He's just--he's overwhelmed. He's got all this money being offered to him by Ava's family. He thinks I killed her. He doesn't trust me. I can't blame him. I-I don't know if I'm gonna be able to get through to him.
Kayla: I think you just have to keep doing what you've been doing; show him how much you care.
Steve: I will.
Kayla: He's gonna see what I see in you. You're a great man, and a better father. You know, I bet that you're already getting through to him. And look, you won me over, by golly.
Steve: Oh, man. What would I do without you?
Tripp: Why am I still here? I didn't do anything.
Roman: You took a swing at me.
Tripp: I didn't connect.
Roman: 'Cause you telegraphed your punch. Shouldn't take such a big windup.
Tripp: I didn't do anything wrong.
Roman: Really? Well, you destroyed property in my family's pub, you were publicly intoxicated--
Tripp: I got drunk. Whatever. Can't I just pay some kind of fine and get out of here?
Roman: You know what, Tripp? I don't think so. No. In fact, I think, a night in jail would do you some good.
