Kayla: [Sighs] First, do no harm. So are you just here for a little change of scenery, Mr. Michaels?
Hal: Yeah. The incompetent nurse that's changing my bed couldn't do it with me in it.
Kayla: Well, they'll be here to take you to the or soon so you won't be here for long.
Hal: Yeah, lucky me.
Kayla: You know, you are lucky. You're lucky that your daughter was a compatible liver donor and that she consented to help you out when you kicked her out of your house.
Hal: 'Bout time that kid did something for me.
This is not just "something." [Scoffs] She is giving you a chance to live. And you might consider being grateful for that.
Hal: Yeah. And I am.
Kayla: You know, I think this is a chance for you and you daughter to have a new beginning. Maybe you should grab that while you still can.
Joey: Jade, what's your old man ever done for you, besides tell you you're not good enough? You don't have to do this.
Jade: I know, but if I don't, he'll die. And I'll to go around knowing I killed my own father because I was scared.
Joey: You're a good person, you know?
Jade: No way to go but up.
Joey: Hey, don't say that.
Jade: If I am a better person it's because of you. And you mom and your dad.
Joey: It's not just that.
Jade: Can I ask you a favor?
Jade: I know it's over between us, but could you just put your arms around me?
[Soft rock music over radio]
Justin: What are you doing here?
Lucas: I'm having lunch. How's Adrienne?
Justin: You don't know? You're supposed to be with her.
Lucas: No, she said you were gonna go with her.
Lucas: Well, I thought you were gonna come in and tell me everything was fine, that it's all over.
Justin: [Sighs] Great. She's done it again.
Lucas: Wait a minute. Wait--wait a damn minute.
Adrienne: [Soft moaning]
Adrienne: You're not room service.
Anne: You look like hell.
Adrienne: Oh, please, honey, go away, go away.
Anne: Wait, Adrienne, wait-- Adrienne!
Adrienne: Oh, oh, ohh! [Vomits]
Brady: Hey, Paul, I wanted to thank you so much for tracing that call that Nicole made. Yeah, I'm headed there now. Yeah, well, I--I wish I had more than an intersection to go on, but I'll find it. No, I--I-- I can't give up. Somebody's got to get to Nicole and convince her to bring that baby back before this whole thing blows up in her face.
Nicole: Hey, shh. I--I just put heather to sleep.
Tiffany: Oh. I got the stuff you wanted.
Nicole: Oh, tiffany. Thank you so much. You are such a lifesaver. I'll take that.
Tiffany: And here's your change.
Nicole: Oh, no-no-no-no-no. No, you keep it.
Tiffany: No-no-no, all I did was go to the grocery store.
Nicole: I know, but I--I-- I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't had your help, so just please keep the money. Kay? Thank you.
Tiffany: Now, you-- you're on the run from a guy who used to slap you around. You need this more than I do. Here. There's some bubble bath in that bag too. If the baby is asleep, treat yourself to a nice bath.
Nicole: That sounds so good. Thank you, yes. And I--I will never forget this.
Nicole: Okay. Thank you.
[Dramatic seedy music]
Tiffany: Hey, hey-hey-hey. We should take that kid too.
Tobey: It's too much of a hassle.
Tiffany: No, listen to me. She lives for that kid. What's in that bag is peanuts compared to what she'll pay to get that baby back.
Tobey: I'm not changing no diapers.
Tiffany: Yeah, what a surprise.
Anne: Adrienne? Come on, Adrienne, I think you need some help, all right? If you don't answer this door, I'm just gonna go downstairs...
Adrienne: Okay, please.
Anne: I'm gonna go to the front desk.
Adrienne: Fine, come in. I'm--I'm fine. Really, I'm fine.
Anne: Look at me. Do--I mean, do you need--do you need a doctor or something?
Adrienne: No, no. I have more doctors than I can handle, thank you. What--what are you doing here?
Anne: I--well, you didn't come to the office and you didn't return my calls. So I--I got worried.
Adrienne: I'm sorry, I meant to text, I just-- I forgot.
Anne: Okay, well, can I-- I mean, what can I do? Get you crackers or...
Adrienne: Please, no, please.
Anne: Some crackers?
Adrienne: No, please. This will pass, I promise. But I'm sure you and Jen can hold down the fort until I'm finished heaving my guts out. Yes?
Anne: Yes, except I don't-- I still don't think you should be here alone.
Adrienne: Oh, you don't want to be here, trust me.
Anne: Oh, please. When you've had as many hangovers as I have, puke is like breakfast, it's...
Adrienne: Okay, okay, you know what? I'm your boss. Do what I'm telling you. Go, all right?
Anne: Okay, all right.
Adrienne: Wait, no, on-- actually, on your way out, would you mind telling the front desk that I'm still waiting on that bottled water, please? Please?
Anne: Yeah, of course, okay. I got it.
Adrienne: Thank you.
Anne: Just, um, take--okay, take care. Take care. I'm going. Water.
[Soft brooding music]
Adrienne: [Soft moaning]
Justin: Look, I know you've been spending a lot more time with Adrienne recently, but how is it good for her to be going through chemo all by herself?
Lucas: Well, did you ever think maybe she wants it that way? This is her last treatment before her surgery. She's probably gutting it out on her own.
Justin: Yeah. Does sound like her.
Lucas: Look, I don't--
[Cell phone rings]
Lucas: Hey, Anne, what's up?
Anne: I--I'm here at the Salem Inn, and I just saw Adrienne, and-- yeah, well, she's not letting me do anything for her, obviously, but I'm telling you, she--she needs some help.
[Soft dramatic music]
Lucas: Uh, look, I'm with Justin right now. We're on our way. We gotta go. Come on.
Nicole: Oh, my God. Oh, my God, my baby. Oh, my God. Oh, my God, holly! Holly!
Joey: Hey, everything's gonna be just fine.
Kayla: Jade. How you doing?
Jade: I don't know. Never donated part of liver before.
Jade: Hi, Dad.
Jade: So next time I see you, you'll have part of my liver inside you. Maybe you'll start hating emo or something.
Jade: It's a kind of music I don't like. Bad joke. Forget I said it.
Hal: No. No-no-no. It--it was funny. I don't--you know, I'm just not in a laughing place, that's all. So, um, ready to get this show started? Uh--wait. Um. You did good, jade.
Jade: I did?
Jade: Thanks, dad.
Hal: Yeah, okay. I'm good.
Joey: You're gonna rock this surgery.
Steve: You know, you got one of the best surgeons in the world right here.
Jade: I know.
Joey: And I'm gonna be right here when you get back.
Kayla: You know, jade, I think things are gonna get better between you and your dad.
Jade: I hope so.
Kayla: Well, see you guys later.
Kayla: You all set?
Lucas: [High-pitched] Room service.
Adrienne: [Startles] What? You are fired.
Adrienne: I told you to go away, not to call for reinforcements.
Lucas: Look, she did the right thing, okay? We--you can't let yourself get dehydrated like this.
Justin: Uh--are you keeping anything down?
Adrienne: A few sips of water, not much else.
Lucas: That's it? Just a few sips of water?
Adrienne: My oncologist upped the dosage of my anti-nausea medication. I'm hoping that it kicks in soon.
Justin: Aren't those things supposed to work better than this?
Adrienne: Well, the last round of chemo is supposed to be the most brutal. And they're not lying. And, please, I can't do fruit. Please, please.
Anne: Okay, I'll move it. I'll move it.
Lucas: There's got to be something else you can take besides water. What about, like, club soda? Or--or chicken broth? That'd be nice.
Adrienne: Mm. Maybe.
Justin: Okay. Well, I'll get it. I'll go get--broth.
Lucas: No-no-no-no, I'll-- I'll get it, you stay here. I can handle it.
Justin: But your car's at the pub.
Anne: Oh, I--that's okay. I'll--I mean, I can drive him.
Adrienne: Oh, God, I gotta lay down.
Adrienne: I gotta lay down.
Justin: All right. Let me help you. Just go lay down on the couch.
Adrienne: Okay. Okay.
Justin: I got you. Hold on.
Adrienne: Oh, no, no, no. No, no... [Retching]
Tiffany: Thank God she didn't cry.
Tobey: She starts that and we've had it. We gotta get rid of this crap.
Tiffany: No, someone's gonna find that!
Tobey: Big deal. We'll be long gone by then.
Nicole: You bitch! Give me my baby! No--I'll kill both of you!
Nicole: Sweetheart. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. Mommy trusted the wrong person. I won't do it again, I promise. I'm so sorry. Oh, my God.
Justin: Hey-hey-hey. Let me help you.
Adrienne: Thank you. Thank you. Oh. Oh. No-no-no-no, no, no, no, don't. Don't-don't-don't.
Justin: Well, you must be cold.
Adrienne: No, no, it, uh-- if I have to throw it off, it slows me down.
Justin: Pillow all right?
Adrienne: Thank you, it's good. Oh. [Sighs]
Justin: So is this, um, is this nausea worse than when you were pregnant with sonny?
Adrienne: I don't know. It's--pretty close.
Justin: Yeah. You didn't say anything to me then either.
Adrienne: Well, you were away on business a lot. And it wasn't that big a deal.
Justin: I could hear it in your voice on the phone. I could tell it was awful.
Adrienne: You cut your trip short.
Justin: Now, back then, the only thing you could keep down was the juice that I made from fresh watermelon.
Adrienne: My God.
Justin: And I noticed there was some watermelon on the fruit plate. So I improvised.
Adrienne: [Soft laugh]
Adrienne: Just, uh...
Justin: There you go.
Adrienne: Thank you. Don't be disappointed if it doesn't work this time.
Justin: I won't. Don't worry about it. Now, just go slow. Just... see what it-- see what it's like after the first sip. Just one sip at a time.
Adrienne: Mm. Mm. It's funny, that's what the pediatrician used to tell me when the boys were getting over the stomach flu.
Justin: I remember.
Justin: Good girl.
Adrienne: It's just-- with sonny, you know, I was sick because he was inside me. He was so worth it. And now I'm sick because I'm sick.
Justin: That won't last.
Adrienne: I know. [Sighs] I'll stop barfing. And then they'll take both my breasts.
Justin: And you'll be cancer-free.
Justin: Save your life.
Adrienne: Yep. That's what they keep telling me. But how am I supposed to feel afterwards? Lucky? Am I not supposed to mourn for the body I once had? [Cries] I nursed our son with these breasts. You used to tell me they were beautiful. [Crying]
Justin: Adrienne, Adrienne. You are beautiful. You are beautiful. No matter what. And soon, this body is gonna be cancer-free and that... that is more beautiful to me than anything I can possibly imagine.
Steve: You know jade's lucky to have you here.
Joey: I'd better be here. I'm the guy who got her pregnant.
Steve: And you're the guy who saw her through losing that baby. I know how hard that was on both of you.
Joey: Yeah, well, it's better that way. Probably would have messed a kid up.
Steve: Let me ask you something, Joe. Does jade accept that the two of you are just friends now?
Joey: Um, I think so.
Steve: I just think you need to be careful about sending messages you don't intend to.
Joey: What are you talking about?
Steve: You got to find a way to make jade see that you're her friend and she has your support, but just as a friend, that's all.
Joey: Look, I don't want to talk about this right now. She's in surgery.
Steve: I'm thinking about jade. She's already been hurt enough.
Nicole: Oh, my God. Oh, honey. Well, it looks like they didn't get a chance to hurt you. But those creeps, they-- they took our food, they took our money. I have to figure something out. I mean, I'm--I'm a mother. I mean, that's what mothers do. We--
Nicole: But you're with me. You're with me and that all-- that's all that matters, honey. I don't-- what would I have done if I hadn't caught them? What-- what if I had lost you? [Crying] I would die without you. Oh, God.
Anne: Don't worry, this is good soup. Kay, just trust your instincts, 'cause you're always very-- you're very good at knowing what Adrienne needs. Right?
Lucas: Yeah. Well, thank you for calling me today, I appreciate it.
Anne: Oh, yeah. Well, I knew she couldn't be alone, and she definitely didn't want me around.
Lucas: I don't know about that. She didn't mean that when she said she was gonna fire you. No, she just talks that way to people that she likes.
Anne: You--you think she likes me?
Lucas: Well, I didn't think she would like you at first, but, yeah, you know, you're probably growing on her a little bit, sure.
Anne: All right. Well, uh, listen, thank you for not telling her I planted that kiss on you. You know, I mean, that--
Lucas: Oh, why would I do that, right?
Lucas: You only did that because you got carried away with your romance novels, right?
Anne: Oh, yeah. Of cou--absolutely.
Anne: Yeah, no, that's-- I mean, that's-- that's all that was.
Lucas: All right, great.
Lucas: Let's go.
Anne: Yeah. Okay.
Adrienne: I want you to know something.
Adrienne: I brushed my teeth after I threw up.
[Soft uplifting music]
Oh... that's what I love about you most of all. Such a romantic.
Justin: And I heard you.
Adrienne: Brushing? Mm. That's what gave you the guts to make your move?
Justin: You're saying that to a man who kissed you every morning before you brushed your teeth.
Adrienne: [Laughs] Okay. You're right, you're right.
Justin: And may I also point out, your particular fondness of garlic.
Adrienne: Oh, could we please not talk about that food right now, please?
Justin: Fine, but that particular food whose name shall not be mentioned, let's just say you ate enough of it to hold off an entire herd of vampires.
Adrienne: Is that how vampires hang? In a herd?
Adrienne: Mm. Well, maybe it's a gaggle. Or a covey. Or something like that.
Justin: You're smiling.
Justin: You're cracking jokes at my expense.
Adrienne: I feel better.
Justin: You're welcome. Would you like some club soda? Something to put into your tummy before Lucas gets back here with the broth?
Adrienne: Maybe a couple crackers.
Justin: I like that. Cracker, club soda.
Adrienne: Yes, please.
Justin: There you go.
Adrienne: Oof. [Exhales]
Justin: You can do it.
Adrienne: Mm. [Soft laugh] Cheers. Mm.
Nicole: I hope you don't have nightmares about this when you grow up. And I hope you don't find out and hate my guts that I took you away from Chloe, but I didn't have a choice. She wouldn't even let me hold you. She got this order of protection against me, and she was gonna take you to new York. And I was... afraid I'd never see you again. And I tried working with Chloe, I did. Yes, I did. And she said that-- that Deimos was a problem. So I broke up with him. I--[Soft crying] I thought Deimos was a problem, too, and then look what I did. Why-- why did I leave you out here all by yourself? I should have taken you into the bathroom with me when I took a bath. I mean, what is-- what is wrong with me? I just couldn't stand to watch Chloe act like your mother, but... she would have never let you get kidnapped. No. She-- she loves you and she would never hurt you. Oh, what have I done to you, holly? [Crying]
[Monitor beeping steadily]
Jade: I knew you'd be here.
Joey: Hey. I told you I would be. My mom said everything went the way she thought it would.
Jade: Good. That's good for my dad.
Joey: What about you? Are you hurting anywhere?
Jade: If I do, I don't feel it. Whatever they gave me is better than any of the drugs I took on that commune.
Joey: Hey, it will wear off.
Jade: I know.
Joey: They're gonna take good care of you.
Jade: I wonder how big a scar I'll have. I hope you don't hate the looks of it.
Joey: Hey, it's only march. Maybe it'll fade. Or you can put that vitamin e cream on it.
Jade: Or you could do it for me.
Joey: Hey, you want me to, uh, see if your dad's okay?
Jade: Please don't go. Stay with me? When you're here, I feel like everything's gonna be okay.
Kayla: You're so funny.
Steve: Jade's gonna be fine, huh? Sticking out.
Kayla: Yes, you know, she's young and she's healthy. And she's gonna recover very quickly.
Steve: Good. You know, I peaked into her room before the surgery. Joe had his arms around her.
Kayla: Well, maybe he was just reassuring her.
Steve: Yeah, but you didn't see her face. She wants more than reassurance from him.
Steve: Looks like.
Kayla: You know, maybe you should talk to him.
Steve: I did. I told him that he shouldn't give her false hope if he's not feeling it.
Kayla: Do you think he listened?
Steve: I think so. But then he said being there for jade right now helps him deal with what happened with Ava.
Kayla: Hate that that even comes up.
Steve: Well, he lives with it. He has no choice. And I did that. I brought Ava into our lives. God, she could have killed you.
Kayla: But she didn't. And we are happily married now. And Joey's doing well. She can't ever hurt us again.
Brady: So, Paul, you didn't have any luck either? Damn. No, no, she must have disguised herself. I mean--no one remembered seeing a baby at all? No--no, I--I've been-- I've been getting the same information. They would have remembered a baby. This isn't exactly a family vacation place. Yeah, no-no-no, I'm--I still have some more places to check, but thank you so far. All right.
Why does that look familiar?
Basic black. Basic black. Dew drop inn. Dew drop inn, gotta be in there.
Nicole: You know what I do in situations like this?
Nicole: I come up with the worst case scenario and I--I--[Sniffs] I try to figure a way out of it. So what's the worst that would happen if we go back to Salem? [Sighs] Chloe will call the police and they will charge me with violating the order of protection and I will go to jail and I will never see you again. So scratch going back to Salem. Oh, my God, I mean, we can't-- we can't go back home. We--we can't stay here. I don't have any money. And if I try to use a credit card, they'll track us down. I mean, I ju-- I wish your daddy was here. He would know what to do. [Crying] You know what, I just-- I just have to figure out what Daniel would do. Yeah, and I will. I will because God knows that I--I've been poor before, and I--I got by then. Yeah. Yeah. And you, little girl, [Soft chuckle] I am never letting you out of my sight again. No, I'm not. No, I'm not because I'm gonna make a life for us, yes. And we are gonna be happy. We're gonna be so happy, I promise. I promise you. I promise. Yeah. Liberty mutual stood with me
Lucas: Hey. Well, you look a lot better than you did when we left.
Adrienne: Justin remembered that mushed-up watermelon used to help with my morning sickness. Turns out it still does.
Lucas: Great. Glad you were here.
Justin: Look, I can leave, if you want to stay and see how she handles the broth.
Adrienne: Um--I'm sorry, guys? I'm sorry. I want to thank you for everything, and, honestly, Anne, I'm really--I'm really, truly sorry I yelled at you, but I can't even think about what's in that takeout bag, please?
Justin: Oh--you're starting to feel bad again?
Adrienne: You know what? I just--could I please just do this alone right now, guys, please?
Lucas: Yeah, yeah. It's fine.
Adrienne: Thank you.
Anne: But we're-- we're coming back.
Justin: We're all in this together, right?
Adrienne: Yep. Yep. Thank you.
Adrienne: Thank you. [Groans]
Steve: So when you get off duty?
Kayla: Well, I still have to monitor jade's dad, but he's doing better. He's back in his room now.
Steve: Good. So what you want to do?
Kayla: Something that gets me off my feet.
Steve: Mm. Well, that opens up a whole lot of possibilities.
Kayla: You're bad.
Steve: No, I'm not. I'm not bad.
Kayla: Mm-hmm. Come on. We're still on our honeymoon.
Steve: So how about we drive into Chicago...
Steve: Go to the green mill, hear some jazz.
Steve: Maybe hit a tapas bar.
Kayla: Topless bar?
Steve: No, no, no, no. Tapas. Tapas.
Kayla: Tapas bar. I thought you said "topless." No.
Kayla: Sure. Sure.
Kayla: Great. That'd be great.
Steve: Ah, but you've had a long day in the or and you're too tired, aren't you, baby? I can see that.
Kayla: Well, maybe.
Steve: So how about this? We go home...
Steve: Get into our jammies.
Steve: Order in some takeout from the pub.
Kayla: Sounds heavenly.
Steve: And I'll give you a foot massage?
Kayla: Oh, even better. I love it.
Steve: All right.
[Cell phone rings]
Kayla: Calling, incoming.
Steve: Aye, aye, aye.
Steve: Hm. Don't recognize this number. Must be business. Sorry. Steve Johnson. Um. Yeah, well, I got a little time right now if that works for you. Uh-huh? Place called the Brady pub, bout ten minutes? Okay. See ya.
Kayla: New client?
Steve: Uh, we'll see.
Kayla: All right. See you back at home then, huh?
Steve: Okay. I'll bring the food.
Kayla: Mm. I'll be there. All right, see you later.
Nicole: All right, sweetheart, are you ready to go? Just... give me a few minutes to wipe off my fingerprints in the room.
Okay. Let's roll, huh?
[Dramatic music pounds]
Lucas: She really did time we saw her.
Justin: She told me she was feeling better. So this wave of nausea must have just hit.
Anne: I don't know why they got to make you sick before they make you better, you know?
Lucas: Yeah, it shouldn't have to be that way.
Justin: Adrienne's oncologist told me that they don't prescribe this kind of full-on, multi-agent chemo unless they think they can shrink this cancer, making it easier and safer for the surgery.
Lucas: Well, doesn't make it easier to go through.
Justin: No. When we were alone, she told me she was dreading the surgery.
Lucas: I just wish there was something we can do to make it, you know, not so...
Lucas: Right. Exactly. Any ideas?
Justin: Honestly, I don't know if a man can possibly understand what's going to happen to her.
Anne: Yeah, well, you got that right, I mean...
Lucas: Oh, yeah.
Justin: All I know is she needs something to hold onto. Something that will help her get through this.
Adrienne: [Soft moaning]
[Soft dramatic music]
Brady: Nic? Nicole?
Well, here you're not anymore, are you?
Jade: I wonder when I can get out of here.
Joey: Mom will tell you.
[Heart monitor beeping steadily]
Jade: Hospitals give me the creeps. Maybe tomorrow?
Joey: I don't know.
Jade: If they let me go back to the loft, you could take care of me, right?
Joey: All of us will take care of you.
[PA announcement dings]
Code blue, room 318. Code blue, room 318.
Jade: That's my father's room. What's happening?
Steve: Well, you're a long way from Jakarta, Raymond. What do you want?
Raymond: Take a guess.
Steve: No. I don't want to guess. Why'd you call? What's this about?
Raymond: Ava Vitali.
Nicole: It's okay, sweetheart. We'll find it. It's got to be here somewhere, right? Huh?
Brady: You looking for this?
