[Knock on door]
Paul: Rafe. I told you I'd let you know whether we scored the tickets as soon as I'd heard back from-- Sonny. What are you doing here?
Rafe: Okay. So... we know Stefano's on the guest list for "Un Ballo in Maschera."
Steve: Can we just call it the masked ball, please?
Marlena: Whatever we call it, we need tickets. And I hear they're not easy to come by.
Rafe: Well, that's why Paul's working on it.
Steve: According to, uh, Shane, only Prague's pedigreed social elite are invited.
Rafe: Well, we'll get in. We have to. This is our last chance to prove that Stefano is alive... and set hope free.
[Knock on door]
Hope: Come in.
Eric: How's the patient doing?
Hope: I... I'm not sure.
Eric: You look...better.
Hope: Yeah, thanks to you, Eric.
Eric: You having any pain?
Hope: Some. Nothing major. Oh, were you able to get that burner phone for me?
Eric: Statesville "family and friend" number.
Hope: Thank you. [Clears throat]
Hope: Yeah, uh, I wanna talk to Hattie. Hattie Adams. Well...I'm her sister. Haley. Oh, my... my god.
[Dramatic musical sting]
Sonny: As you requested... five tickets to "un ballo in maschera." This is the event you wanted tickets to, right?
Paul: Yes, but I-- I mean, I figured you'd ring up a business contact and call in a favor. I didn't expect door-to-door delivery.
Sonny: Because it's an exclusive event, I couldn't transfer the tickets to someone else's name. Figured I'd pick 'em up personally. Wait--you don't think I came all the way here just to see you, did you?
Marlena: We're still waiting to see if Paul got tickets to the ball.
Kayla: What if he can't?
Rafe: Then we find another way in.
Steve: Here we go.
Kayla: What's this?
Steve: It's the layout of the ballroom. I marked all the entrances and exits we're covering.
Marlena: Wow. There is a large distance between these.
Steve: We'll all be mic'd up, so we'll still be able to communicate.
Rafe: That goes for you too. If you feel threatened in any way whatsoever...you just sound the alarm. The ISA will have operatives at every balcony, door, and window.
Marlena: Let's make sure nobody gets distracted. That would be the kind of thing that Stefano counts on.
Rafe: We're asking a lot of you. I know. You still up for it?
Marlena: Yeah. I'm the best chance we have. I just hope that he doesn't smell a trap.
Steve: Well, even if he does... you're the bait he can't resist.
Hope: That's exactly what I was afraid of.
Eric: What happened?
Hope: Hattie. She was attacked during a riot at the prison. They had to take her to a clinic in Brookville. Because it's something even the infirmary couldn't handle--all the injured inmates.
Eric: At least she's out of that hellhole.
Hope: Yeah, but the same thing's gonna happen if she goes back...or worse.
Eric: Hope, you can't worry about that right now.
Hope: I gotta go back.
Eric: No, you're not going anywhere!
My belly pain and constipation?
Ciara: "Fighting for her life behind prison walls, hope Brady felt like she had...no choice but to escape. [Tearfully] Her family and friends can only pray that she's alive and safe." [Crying] Please be okay, Mom. I miss you so much.
Theo: Hey, Ciara. Whoa, whoa, whoa, what's up? Why are you crying?
Hey...it's okay, all right? It's okay.
Marlena: Oh! Sonny, what a surprise!
Steve: Dude... what brings you all the way here?
Paul: Sonny's the one I called about getting us tickets to the ball.
Rafe: Oh ho!
Steve: You couldn't have just had 'em messengered?
Sonny: Good to see you, too, uncle Steve.
Kayla: Well, that's...beyond the call of duty.
Rafe: Well, we owe you, big time.
Sonny: I'm happy to help. Especially if it means clearing hope's name.
Rafe: Well, that's why we're all here.
Marlena: So, we've got tickets. All we've gotta do now is get dressed...and go to the ball.
Steve: So Sonny, you're headed back to the airport now?
Paul: No, actually, he's gonna be joining us tonight.
Sonny: My name is on the tickets, so...all of you are my guests.
Kayla: That's a bit risky, isn't it?
Paul: Yeah, I don't think you people get it. If Sonny doesn't go tonight, neither do we.
Sonny: I'm willing to take that risk.
Steve: Okay. As long as you understand we're running a tight ship here. Welcome aboard.
Hope: Eric... if it weren't for Hattie, if she hadn't smuggled me out of prison, I probably wouldn't be alive. I have to see that she's okay.
Eric: Hope, you are an escaped fugitive. If someone happens to spot you--
Hope: The clinic where she is, it's not even in Salem.
Eric: Your face has been plastered all over the news.
Hope: Wait a minute. Wait a minute. I may have a way... to bring Hattie out of prison for good. Is it possible to stop daily
Theo: Look, I know you're worried about your mom.
Ciara: I'm not just worried. I'm totally freaked out! I don't know where she is, am I ever gonna see her again, or if she's even alive.
Theo: No, look, of course you're gonna see her again, okay? Hey, and didn't she send that email to your brother saying she was okay?
Ciara: Yeah, but we haven't heard from her since. That means something bad could have happened.
Theo: Well, we need to just focus on the positives right now.
Ciara: Yeah, sorry. God, I'M...being such a downer. And I'm dumping all this on you. I'm sorry.
Theo: No, no, it's fine. I mean...you've been there for me plenty of times. It's my turn to be there for you.
Ciara: You're such a good friend. You're always the one person I can count on.
Theo: Yeah, like you are to me.
Ciara: I wasn't sure I still was. I mean, after the way I acted last year...how I pushed you away.
Theo: Oh. Yeah, I mean, I knew you were dealing with a lot, so...
Ciara: That was totally messed up. I was just all twisted up inside. You don't know how much I regret the way I acted... especially to you.
Paul: So you're clear on everything.
Sonny: Yep. I got it.
Rafe: Okay, great. Let's start getting ready and let's plan on meeting in the main ballroom a little bit early so we can set up and get into position.
Paul: That's a good idea.
Rafe: Okay, now, just to reiterate...I'll be keeping an eye on the west entrance. That's the one by the check-in tables.
Steve: Kayla and I are taking the east side. We're gonna cover those doors. There'll be a service door there which will be unlocked.
Paul: Sonny can come with me to monitor the north end. That leads to the kitchen.
Rafe: Okay. Just don't get distracted. Stefano should have to go past at least one of us on his way in or out of the room.
Sonny: Will we know him if he tries? I mean, won't he be wearing a mask too?
Rafe: Mm. Well, that's where Marlena comes in. 'Cause once Stefano sees her-- mask or no mask--he's not going to be able to resist revealing himself.
Marlena: Can't wait.
Steve: Marlena, just know you'll be completely protected. In addition to our detail, Shane has confirmed the ISA will have agents stationed all around the exterior perimeter.
Rafe: And in addition to a private channel we'll have for our group, Steve and I will also be hooked in with the ISA.
Steve: All right. All bases are covered.
Rafe: Well...we're ready for anything.
Hope: All along, Hattie has maintained her innocence, despite the charges against her. Well, you know what? I have reason to believe that she was framed. By André DiMera. You know, Eric...all I have to do is get confirmation from her that he is the guy that took advantage of her, and if I can do that, if I can prove it was him... and prove her innocence... she may never have to go back to Statesville again.
Eric: Do you really wanna get tangled...
Eric: With another DiMera... when another one already has you on the run for your life? Admirable as it all sounds, you're gonna have to put your fight for Hattie's justice on hold...till you are well enough to handle it.
I'm gonna make you something to eat.
Hope: Eric. You're right. I don't wanna risk a relapse. Won't do me any good. Or Hattie. You're right.
Eric: No, it wouldn't. [Stomach grumbles]
Hope: [Laughs] You hear that? I guess I am hungry.
Eric: We'll have a soup and a sandwich.
Hope: Sounds great. Thanks.
Theo: What--what do you mean you regret the way you acted?
Ciara: Um...just forget what I said. I'm a mess. But, um, thank you for giving me a shoulder to cry on. Literally.
Theo: Yeah, no, that's, um, what friends are for.
Ciara: Yeah. That's what we are, right? Friends. Best friends.
Theo: Yeah, right.
Ciara: Oh. Oh, no.
Theo: What, what, what?
Ciara: Um...I had a volunteer job at the hospital.
Theo: Well, it's volunteer. Is it that big of a deal?
Ciara: Uh, it is if I'm late. Thank you. Thanks again.
Kayla: There. Stunning. I think it was a perfect choice.
Marlena: Good. It's perfect if it works.
Kayla: I just wish this was a happier occasion.
Marlena: Well, it will be if we catch Stefano.
Kayla: "If" being the operative word.
Marlena: What do you mean by that?
Kayla: Just what if, you know, Stefano's playing us? What if he's just letting us think that we're setting the trap for him where, in reality, he is really setting a bigger trap for all of us? For you.
Marlena: Well... I've committed doing this, and I plan to follow through. We discussed it. It's the best chance we have.
Kayla: I know. And I know that Steve will do everything in his power to keep you safe. And it's not that I don't trust Rafe to do the same. It's just I-I... I would just feel better...
Marlena: If john were here. I-I know. I feel the same way.
Kayla: I mean, he just...he knows Stefano better than anybody else. I mean, he's rescued you from the clutches of that bastard over and over again and...
Marlena: I think about it all the time. All the time he's had to save me and... what might have happened if he hadn't.
Kayla: Well, luckily, you never had to find out. When I think of the insane obsession that Stefano has had for you...and what he put you through over the years... but...there's no point in dredging up the past. I'm sorry.
Marlena: You're not dredging it up. It's in the forefront of my mind, every single day.
Stefano: You knew I'd come tonight, didn't you? You're expecting me.
Stefano: Are you ready to go?
Marlena: Where are you taking me?
Stefano: Does it matter?
[Dark, edgy music]
I must warn you... tonight will be different from all others.
Marlena: Different how?
Stefano: If you join me on this trip...there's no coming back. If you decide to follow me, it is forever. The decision is yours.
[Intense musical buildup]
Stefano: Going somewhere, Marlena?
Marlena: How did--
Stefano: Oh, my dear, dear Marlena. I thought you realized by now that I am aware of your every move. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I'm sorry, but you're not going anywhere.
[Dramatic musical flourish]
Kayla: You okay?
Marlena: Yeah. I, uh... I think I need some air.
Kayla: Or maybe you need to not do this.
Marlena: I have to do this... for hope.
Kayla: Not if it means risking your life. Hope wouldn't blame you, and neither would I...if you back down.
Marlena: I'm not. I'm not backing out.
Kayla: But you're having second thoughts.
[Light background music]
Sonny: I thought I could handle it.
Sonny: A bow tie. I can just never get it right.
Paul: Here, let's just--let me.
Steve: Sonny. Paul. You all set?
Paul: Yeah, where's, uh, Marlena and Kayla?
Rafe: Still getting ready, evidently.
Paul: Well, how about you and I go for a walk while we're waiting and we can go over the plan once more.
Steve: Good. See ya later. Hey... it'll all be over soon enough.
Rafe: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But when it is, will we have Stefano? Time and time again, we've come up empty.
Steve: Let's just try to think positive, okay?
Rafe: Yeah. I'm trying. It's just that the stakes are so much higher now. Between Marlena's safety and hope's future... nothing can go wrong.
[Light music continues]
Hope: Thank you.
[Hattie groans] Hattie.
Hattie: Oh, doc...
Hope: Hattie, wake up.
Hattie: I'm glad you're here. Oh, this pain is something bad.
Hope: Hattie, it's hope. You gotta wake up.
Hattie: Just one more shot for the pain--just, can I have...oh, doc, please, one more shot for the--
Hope: [Whispers] Hattie.
Hattie: Wait a minute. Hope? Hope, is that you? Ohh...
Hattie: I was...I was so scared that something happened to you, you know. I was so afraid, I... wait a minute, wait a minute. Am I in heaven? I didn't see any lights or anything. I didn't see any lights. Maybe it's not heaven.
Hope: You're not in heaven. Hattie, I'm real.
Hattie: You're okay after all. So Chet came through for ya? Good. I was worried, but I... couldn't get a hold of him. He didn't call me or anything.
Hope: Hattie, I was so worried when I called to talk to you and they told me what happened--I had to see that you were all right.
Hattie: Ohh...you're not mad at me for gettin' ya outta here?
Hope: No. I know your heart was in the right place. I'm sorry, I just-- I hate what happened to you.
Hattie: Yeah. Well, look, I...I-I don't mind, you know. Nobody...nobody ever deserved less to be in here than you did. You should never have been in here.
Hope: Does anyone at the prison know how I escaped?
Hattie: Well, uh... the prison p--the personnel. No, they don't...they don't know. You know but, uh, but, you know, coco and her pals, they--they... they were really suspicious and, uh, you know, they--they, uh... they were pretty angry that I helped ya out. They took it out on me pretty bad.
Hope: How long do they say you're gonna be in here?
Hattie: Uh...doc says I got a couple...weeks until I--till I finish recovering and then I gotta go back and face the music.
Hope: I'm gonna turn myself in.
Hattie: No, you--oh, no.
[Dramatic musical flourish]
Hattie: Mm-mm, mm-hmm, no, no, no, you're not gonna-- no, no, don't do that, I-- look, I didn't go through all this just to have you go back to jail and be my bodygu--
Hope: Hattie, what is it?
Hattie: Oh, no. Look at you, you frail little thing. You'd never survive an attack. I can't lose you, hope. You're the only real friend I ever had.
Hope: Hattie, you're my friend, too, but you know what? You know what I'm really hoping for--you'll never have to go back again.
Hattie: I'm not strong enough to go on the run with you.
Hope: Listen to me. If my instincts are correct, then...
Hattie: What? What--what are your instincts?
Hope: I may be able to prove your innocence.
Julie: And I thought young people didn't have time to sit and smell the roses anymore.
Ciara: [Chuckles] My shift at the hospital got cancelled.
Julie: Oh. Well, I have a little free time too, luckily. May I join you?
Ciara: Yeah, of course. I'd like that.
Julie: I'll bet you were sitting here... thinking of your mom. How much you miss her.
Ciara: Yeah. That's all I'm ever thinking about.
Julie: I can't imagine how painful all of this has been for you. And I hope you know how impressed I am with your strength, your resilience.
Ciara: I don't know why you'd be impressed.
Julie: Well, I don't know why not. And you know I'm not the only one. Your grandfather talks about you all the time. What a wise girl you are for your years and... and how compassionate. Am I embarrassing you?
Ciara: Just a little. But it makes me feel good.
Julie: You were absolutely selfless when your father died. You were there for your mom. She was so proud of you, she told me. And she still is proud of you.
Ciara: I'm so proud of her. She's the most amazing person I know.
Julie: Agreed. You're not the only one that thinks about her all the time, darling. I do too. And your grandfather. [Sighs] Well, you know this has been very hard for him.
Ciara: I know. I do.
Julie: He's not just concerned about hope. He's concerned about you too. And so am I.
Ciara: I should go see him sometime this weekend. Are you gonna be around?
Julie: Oh, definitely. And he would love that. Come to dinner. I'll make you lamb chops. We'll spend the night. Spend the night, and we can watch a movie and...eat popcorn and...
Ciara: That sounds great.
Julie: Would I be intruding if I asked how... how things are going in school and with your social life? I know your focus is on your mother right now, but...I hope you are seeing your friends and...I know your mother wouldn't want you to isolate yourself.
Ciara: I'm not. I'm just not having any fun. I mean, with my friends. It's...just the opposite, actually.
Julie: And why is that, darling?
Ciara: God, it--it's just so lame.
Julie: So lame.
Julie: I'm guessing it's about a boy.
Paul: You know, tonight wouldn't be happening if it weren't for you.
Sonny: I'm just glad I could help. Really glad to be on this adventure with you tonight. I mean, don't get me wrong. I know there's a lot at stake. This is a very serious business, but...I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I'm kind of enjoying this whole... James Bond experience.
Paul: Course, all that excitement will come to an end if the mission fails.
Sonny: It won't. You gotta believe that. I do. Just like I believe in you.
Marlena: I-- I won't lie about this to you. Going through with it without...the help of the person I trust most in the world--
Kayla: Yeah. Makes it a lot harder--I get it. Believe me, if I was in your situation and Steve was not by my side...I don't know if I could do it. That's why I'm telling you--
Marlena: Oh, no, no, please, we have to stop this. Thank you--I'm so grateful for your concern, I-- I'm so grateful for you. Don't you see, I have to go through this. I have to for hope. And I have to for myself. Because if I don't... we'll never be free of Stefano. So whatever it takes to stop him... it's worth the risk.
Sonny: I have faith in you. I have faith in everyone involved. This mission will be successful.
Paul: Yeah. It will be. And you know, one nice thing in this endeavor to, uh, nab Stefano... is that we get to do it in this beautiful city.
Sonny: Yeah, Prague is a... magical place.
Paul: That's right. You've been here before.
Sonny: Yeah. Last time I left Salem. You know, if possible, I wanna revisit some of my old haunts before I leave. I-I don't know if you could... take a couple days off of work, but...it'd be cool if you could come with me.
Paul: I'd like that. It'd be nice to spend some time together. Away from home and all the things that get in the way of us having time.
Sonny: Feels like we're a... million miles away from those things, doesn't it?
Well, we should...get back to the cafe. Before Rafe comes looking for us.
Hey. You okay?
Paul: I am now. Let's go.
Julie: Are you still hung up on that boy that was dating your BFF?
Ciara: I don't think I'd call her that.
Julie: Mmm. I'll take that as a yes.
Ciara: I just--I hate having these feelings.
Julie: Well, you can't control feelings.
Ciara: I mean, why not? I mean, I've tried so hard.
Julie: Darling...because they're feelings. Thoughts sometimes you can stop. A little, maybe. Feelings, not so much.
Ciara: Yeah, I know. It's like when you told me you can't force someone to fall in love with you.
Julie: Nope. Can't. And if you do force it, it usually has the opposite effect and you drive him away.
Ciara: I know. So I should just accept this guy's relationship with my friend and be happy for her.
Julie: [Laughs] Be happy for her? I don't think I'd go that far. If you were happy for her, you'd be bucking for sainthood. No. She has what you want, so... so you resent her, some, and you feel a little jealous. And that's all perfectly natural, sweetie.
Ciara: I guess it is. I mean, how can I be happy for her when I practically fall apart just thinking about him?
Ciara: When all I want is him?
Julie: Young love. Unfortunately, you are going through the unrequited kind. Been there...done that.
Ciara: You have?
Julie: Well, yes. Only about 200 years ago, I was quite a young girl. Listen, I, uh, do not recommend you ditching the girlfriend to get your heart's desire. That--that never ends well.
Ciara: I-I don't wanna break anyone up. I just wish I could stop hurting because they're together.
Julie: Well, if your feelings for this boy haven't faded with time, maybe the thing to do is...bite the bullet. Tell him how you feel.
Ciara: But I thought that--
Julie: Nah--uh-uh-- not to win him over... but to get him out of your system and move on.
Ciara: But I'm pretty sure that would make things awkward.
Julie: Oh, probably will. But once the awkwardness passes, it could be very cathartic for you, Ciara. Couldn't feel any worse than you do now, could you?
Julie: Well, then, darling, you have nothing to lose. And I say...go for it.
Hope: I had found out all this information about your ex, Alfie, and then you chloroformed me.
Hattie: Yeah, I told ya-- I couldn't help it, I mean... I had to get ya outta there before they kill-- wait a minute. What about Alfie?
Hope: All right, well, for starters...I think your snake of an ex is someone I know, and I don't think his name is "Alfie."
Hattie: Come on, tell me. Come on, I'm dying to hear. What ya got? Tell me what's--
Hope: This guy look familiar?
Hattie: Ohh... oh! Holy smoke! That's my snake!
[Dramatic musical sting]
Theo: Hey. I thought you had work.
Ciara: Um, my shift got cancelled.
Theo: Oh, lucky you.
Theo: Well, at least now you can chill.
Ciara: Right. I can... chill. Theo?
Ciara: I need to tell you something.
Theo: Oh, okay, um, before you do, can I ask you something?
Theo: All right, well, you know valentine's day is coming up, right?
Ciara: I do know that.
Theo: All right, well, since you left, even before that, I've been on the internet trying to find Claire a great gift...you know, and she said she might maybe like earrings or a bracelet, but I wanna pick it out.
Ciara: Uh...yeah, that would mean more...to me, anyway.
Theo: Well, I thought you'd say that. So...tell me what you think about this. It's a rose gold watch. Get it?
Ciara: Um... I'm--I'm not sure.
Theo: Yeah, like the rose part, like it won't die like normal roses do, and then she'll have it forever.
Ciara: I think she'd love it.
Theo: But you don't?
Ciara: No. I mean yes. I-I do love it.
Theo: Why are you so quiet then?
Ciara: I'm just thinking about how lucky Claire is to have such an amazing boyfriend. The best.
Theo: Well, I'm trying.
Theo: Uh...okay, well, I better order it so it gets here on time, then.
Hey, um, what did you wanna tell me?
Ciara: Um... it's not important.
Kayla: Hey, handsome.
Kayla: What do you think?
Steve: Can't think.
[Both chuckle] I'm just too blown away by how beautiful you look.
Kayla: Oh, yeah. Thank you.
Steve: Think you can wear that getup to our valentine's day wedding?
Kayla: I think it's just a smidge over the top, but... besides, you know it's bad luck to see the dress before the wedding.
Steve: Aw, sweetness... we make our own luck, don't we? Hmm?
[Marlena clears throat]
Steve: Whoa. People.
Paul: I wish my dad was here to see how beautiful you look, Marlena.
Marlena: Thanks. So do I.
Rafe: Everybody ready?
Kayla: Ready as we're gonna be.
Steve: Showtime, folks. Let's rock and roll.
Eric: Hope, you asleep? I'm sorry it took so long-- [Sighs] Damn it, hope, what have you gone and done?
Hattie: Great. So my Alfie-- my snake... is really André DiMera.
Hope: Don't be too hard on yourself.
Mattie: Can't believe I fell for a DiMera. I'll try not to be too hard on myself, but this-- the thing is, I may have to have the doctor give me something to keep from puking... every time I think about that snake.
Hope: All right, Hattie, we'll get you something for that, but I better get outta here before your doctor comes back to check up on you. And, uh, do everything you possibly can to keep yourself from being sent back to Statesville, okay?
Hattie: Hey...I will, if you do the same thing, okay?
Hope: Deal. I'll be in touch.
Raines: Hattie Adams?
Raines: Lieutenant Raines, Salem PD.
Hattie: Yeah? What can I do for you?
Raines: I hear that you're friends with another inmate-- hope Brady.
Hattie: Yeah? So?
Raines: Any chance you can tell me where she's hiding out?
Hattie: Uh, no. No. No! No.
