Episode #12988 ~ Abigail & Jennifer say a difficult good-bye; Chad & Gabi exchange Christmas gifts; Brady finds Nicole & Chloe at the motel; Rafe brings a little Christmas cheer to Hope in prison; the Hortons have their annual ornament-hanging get-together.

Provided By Suzanne

Jennifer: I packed you a sandwich, and there are some homemade Christmas cookies in here and... an apple in case you needed a snack.

Abigail: Mom, I'm going to Boston, not sleepaway camp.

Jennifer: Are you sure about this, honey?

Abigail: I am, yeah. Look, I need you to trust me and know that what I'm doing is--is okay.

Jennifer: I do. I-- I mean, just tonight, of all nights, honey... and I know it's your decision. It's not mine. But it's--it's still just breaking my heart right now.

Chad: So tell me, André, what is this "good reason" you have that Gabi and I cannot be together?

André: You really want to know? 'Cause I'll tell you.

Chad: No, I don't want to know. In fact, I don't want to hear another word come out of your mouth. See, my personal life is off-limits to you. I don't need you weighing in on any of it. That includes going behind my back, getting Gabi to quit her job by you insinuating that because of her past or her time in prison, it negatively reflects my reputation.

André: Oh, not just your reputation-- the DiMera enterprises' as well.

Chad: Oh, yeah, and father's past criminal history didn't do anything to tarnish that?

André: I thought we were re-branding that.

Chad: Who the hell do you think you are?

André: I'm your protective older brother.

Chad: [Scoffs] Yeah. Yeah, I don't--I don't need any of your protection.

André: Ah, yes, you need it. Trust me.

Chad: Yeah, trust you. See, I don't know why it is I thought I could trust you, because every time I do, you prove me wrong. Well, that's not gonna happen again, so why don't you get the hell out of my house?

André: You'll regret not hearing me out on this. Maybe not today, but soon.

Chad: Is that a threat?

André: I just want you to be happy. And sometimes when you're on the outside looking in... you know, you're right. It's none of my business. And so at the risk of offending you any further, I'll do as you ask and go.

[Dramatic music]

Nicole: Chloe? Chloe, honey? Come on, can you hear me? Oh, Chloe. Chloe, listen to me. Your little girl needs you. And I already promised her that I wouldn't let anything happen to you. So wake up! Do you hear me? Open your eyes, Chloe, please. I am not gonna let this little girl grow up without her mother. Oh.

[Somber music]

Abigail: Please, just don't make this any harder.

Jennifer: I'm just gonna miss you, that's all.

Abigail: Well, it's not good-bye forever. I'm gonna keep going to therapy, and I'm gonna keep getting better. And you and JJ, you can come visit me anytime you want.

Jennifer: I understand that. I just--I'm tired of pretending that you're dead, especially with Chad.

Abigail: Well, I doubt my name will really even come up with him anymore.

Jennifer: What? Honey, Gabi and Chad are not even a given. Please.

Abigail: Then I'm glad that Thomas has you, because I know that you will never let him forget how much I love him.

Jennifer: Never, never. Oh, gosh.

Deimos: Yes, I'm aware that we'll be flying into a snowstorm. That's why I'm paying you triple the pilot's fee to get us there. We finally have a bead on their location. Now, we need get that chopper off the ground and do it now!

[Line rings]

Deimos: Damn it, Brady! I hope to God you didn't try to drive there in this mess.

[Cell phone rings]

Deimos: Hey!

Nicole: Oh, Deimos! Thank God I got through. I thought you were sending help.

Deimos: It's on its way. How's Chloe?

Nicole: She's not so good. Deimos, she had the baby, a little girl.

Deimos: She did? Is the baby okay?

Nicole: Yeah. Yes, she's fine.

Deimos: All right, look, just--just sit tight, okay? The weather in Chicago had us grounded for a while, but now that the storm has subsided somewhat, I was able to get someone to pilot a helicopter, all right? So we'll be there soon, I promise.

Nicole: Just hurry, please. Okay.

[Baby cooing]

Nicole: All right.

Brady: Nicole?

Nicole: Brady!

Brady: Oh, my God.

Nicole: Oh, my God, you made it! You made it! Hi!

Brady: Are you okay?

Nicole: Yeah.

Brady: You all right? Oh, my God.

Nicole: I know. Chloe, she had the baby. She had the baby here, with me. And then after she was born, she passed out, and I just-- I can't get her to wake up. And I'm just afraid that if we don't get her help soon, Brady, she's not gonna make it. And we can't let that happen.

Brady: Chloe. Don't just eat yogurt... wear it.

You've got friends, lady. It's after hours.

Hope: What's going on? Who's here?

Rafe: Hey.

Okay, okay, I'm giving you guys some leeway, but rules still apply. Take a seat, both of you.

Rafe: All right.

Hope: What are you doing here?

Rafe: Where else would I rather be than with the woman I love on Christmas eve?

Hope: Rafe.

Rafe: As it turns out, it's not only Christmas. It's also your birthday. Oh.

Hope: I can't believe you did this.

Can't light it.

Rafe: I know. But... you can still make a wish.

[Soft music]

[Somber music]

JJ: Mom... what's wrong?

Jennifer: Abigail's gone.

JJ: What? When?

Jennifer: She left a little while ago, and I, uh... tried to talk her out of it, but she was absolutely determined. She feels that it is just best for everyone.

JJ: "Everyone," meaning Chad and Gabi?

Julie: Merry Christmas!

Doug: We're almost ready.

Julie: What's the matter?

Jennifer: Uh...

Julie: Is it hope?

Jennifer: JJ and I were just--we were just talking about how much we miss Abigail, that's all.

Julie: Of course, darling. Of course, we all do. We knew this was gonna be a difficult Christmas for many of our loved ones.

Doug: Julie is right. Look at Adrienne and what she's facing now.

Jennifer: Mm-hmm. And Lucas is with her right now, and, um, he said he would try to stop by later, but he knew that everyone would understand.

Julie: Of course. But Chad's coming by, isn't he, with little Thomas?

Jennifer: No. He's not gonna make it either. I guess he has other plans.

Chad: So all of the restaurants in Salem are closed because it is Christmas. Go figure. But I just thought that we could do dinner here, if that's okay.

Gabi: Yeah, yeah, that sounds perfect. What do you need my help with? Getting the drinks, setting up the table?

Chad: No, I just want you to sit back, relax, enjoy. But first, I, um-- I want to-- I have something that I want to show you.

Gabi: Oh, yeah?

Chad: Yeah.

Gabi: 'Cause I have something that I want to show you and give you. Uh-uh! No way.

Chad: Come on.

Gabi: That's funny.

Chad: Only if we got each other the same thing.

Gabi: Okay, will you open mine first, please?

Chad: Are you sure?

Gabi: Yes, yes.

Chad: Positive?

Gabi: Yes.

Chad: All right.

Gabi: [Laughs]

Chad: Let's see how you got this--there we go. Oh, wow.

Gabi: All right.

Chad: Okay. [Laughs] Oh, okay.

Gabi: Well, I pictured a couple reactions, but laughing was not one of them.

Chad: No, yeah, okay, you're gonna understand as soon as you open mine.

Gabi: O-okay. Same. [Laughs] What? Okay, yeah.

Chad: Well? See?

Gabi: Yeah. No, I see. We are definitely on the same wavelength.

Chad: I knew your favorite color was purple.

Gabi: It's beautiful.

Chad: You are. And I'm grateful to have you in my life.

Gabi: You know that, um, no one thinks it's gonna work out between us, right?

Chad: What?

Gabi: Yeah.

Chad: We're the long shots?

Gabi: Yeah.

Chad: Challenge accepted.

Gabi: Accepted.

[Both laugh]

[Baby crying]

Brady: I can carry her out if you, uh--if you can handle the baby, all right?

Nicole: I can. I can. Are the roads even passable?

Brady: I don't know, Nicole. I mean, I navigated through hell to get here, so I can get us out of here.

Nicole: Okay.

[Baby fussing]

Nicole: It's okay, sweetheart.

[Helicopter rotors whirring]

Oh, my God. Please tell me that's Deimos. Oh, God. Yeah! Hey. Oh!

Nicole: Deimos, I should be with the baby.

Deimos: No, no, no, no. It's okay. It's all right. The EMT knows what he's doing.

Nicole: I'm so scared for Chloe.

Deimos: Don't worry. I'm gonna make sure she gets the best care possible, okay?

Nicole: Okay. Look, I know Chloe isn't your favorite person. But if this little girl gets to grow up with her mother, it will be thanks to you.

Maggie: Merry Christmas.

Julie: Oh, merry Christmas. Don't tell me victor's not coming.

Maggie: Ah, well, he threw out his back decorating the tree.

Doug: [Laughs] Sounds like victor code meaning, "a date with my gin and tonic is gonna be more fun than Christmas at the Hortons'."

Julie: No, no, nothing's more fun than Christmas at the Hortons'.

Maggie: True. [Laughter] Hi, sweetie.

JJ: Hey, hey.

Abe: Hey!

JJ: Mom put me in charge of libations, so what can I get you three? We got eggnog, Christmas sherry.

Valerie: Oh!

Abe: Well, I'll have the eggnog.

Valerie: Make that two.

JJ: Okay, all right. How about you, Lani? Up for a little holiday cheer?

Lani: I'll pass.

JJ: Okay. You're missing out.

Jennifer: All right, more cookies on their way.

Julie: Oh, thank you.

Maggie: Oh, now, those look really good.

Jennifer: Oh, hey, sweetie. Oh, just put on whatever one you think will sound the best. [Laughs]

Ciara: This one was my mom's favorite. She used to play it all the time, just driving me crazy.

Jennifer: [Laughs]

Ciara: But now it-- now it just makes me miss her more.

Jennifer: Hey, listen, if you ever... just need someone to talk to or just hang out with, I want you to know I'm here for you, okay?

Ciara: Thanks.

Jennifer: I love you, sweetie, so much. Excuse me. I'm gonna put these over here. There we go.

[Indistinct chatter]

[Somber music]

Gabi: Hey, Thomas is asleep. S-- I'll wait for you downstairs.

Chad: No, it's fine. Come in. Come in!

Gabi: Are you sure?

Chad: Yes.

Gabi: Yeah, I'm not sure the cufflinks could improve on this look. I probably shouldn't have said that.

Chad: It's fine. You've seen me with my shirt off before.

Gabi: No, it just kind of feels different now.

Chad: Yeah, me too. Like out of nowhere, there's all of a sudden all this--

Gabi: Yeah, and I'm just-- I'm buying cufflinks for this guy that's my boss, and now it's like... it's like when you don't even know you're looking for something and then you find it and it's exactly what you wanted. Just didn't realize it was right in front of your face the whole time.

[Suspenseful music]

Hope: I can't believe you left your family on Christmas eve to spend it with me.

Rafe: How many times do I have to tell you that you're family too? Oh. I bent the rules a little bit, and I brought you something of value-- at least it's valuable to me. It's a note from the warden.

[Soft music]

Hope: It's beautiful.

Rafe: You like it?

Hope: Yeah.

Rafe: It's a relic from our lady of Guadalupe. It was my grandmother's. I just... I just--I thought it would help you out here.

Hope: I love it.

Rafe: Good.

Hope: Thank you.

Rafe: You're welcome. You're not alone. You know that, right? You're not. You got your faith and your family. And you got me.

Hope: Yeah.

[Chatter and laughter]

Julie: Everyone... as we place each person's ornament on the tree, I think we should take a minute to think about why they mean so much to us, why their presence in our lives--for however long or short a time-- made us a better person just by their presence. All right, let's begin.

Doug: Okay.

Abe: You know, they do this every year, just like clockwork.

Valerie: Yes, I remember how magical it was.

[Soft holiday music]

Ah, ah, ah ah, ah, ah ah, ah, ah, ah ah, ah Peace on earth goodwill to man

Nicole: I wonder if she's awake.

Deimos: You know, maybe you should go to the nursery, just check on the baby.

Brady: Uh, we should hold off on that, because if Chloe wakes up, she's gonna want to see you.

Nicole: Yeah. Oh. How is she?

Your friend experienced a sudden increase in blood pressure caused by preeclampsia.

Nicole: I remember reading about that. That's triggered by labor, isn't it?

Mm-hmm. We have her on a magnesium sulfate drip to lower her BP. Unfortunately, because of the change in pressure, her brain started to bleed.

Deimos: Are you saying she had a stroke?

Nicole: Is she conscious?

Brady: You're saying she's in a coma, right?

Nicole: Oh, my God.

The next 48 hours are critical for a full recovery.

Nicole: Well, I mean, can I see her?

Yeah, right after the nurses are finished.

Brady: Will you please just keep us updated, okay?

All right.

Nicole: Thank you. Um... I'm gonna go check on the baby.

Deimos: Yeah. You see what a wreck she is?

Brady: Yeah.

Deimos: This should be one of the happiest days of her life.

Brady: If--if this is her baby.

Deimos: There's no doubt in my mind. And since a child's first moments of bonding with their mother are crucial, I suggest we tell Nicole the truth--now.

[Suspenseful music]

Chad: So, um, I have a confession to make.

Gabi: Oh, well, last time I heard that, it didn't end too well.

Chad: It's about JJ. Um, see, when I found out that the two of you weren't gonna make it, I was-- I was actually-- I was happy. And I hope that doesn't make me seem like a terrible person.

Gabi: Oh, Chad, I think you're anything but terrible.

Chad: See, ever since I lost Abby, there-- people have told me that I have my whole life ahead of me. And for the first time, I actually believe them. It's been a really long time since I felt happy, but I actually do now, and I'm excited for my future... because of you.

Gabi: Oh?

Chad: Mm-hmm. Mm!

Gabi: [Laughs]

[Soft music playing]

Jennifer: Oh, I really feel it now.

Maggie: What, sweetheart?

Jennifer: Just Abigail's absence.

Julie: Well, I don't understand why Chad couldn't have dropped little Thomas off.

Jennifer: I know. I should have insisted. Because then at least it would feel like part of my sweet girl was with us.

Claire: [Chuckles] Okay. Hey, Theo. Open it.

Theo: No way! Ron Santo? Dad, dad, look, look, look!

Abe: [Laughs] You have been wanting this for a long time.

Valerie: Oh!

Lani: Score one for you, Claire.

Theo: How did you even know I wanted this?

Claire: Well, I don't know. It must be that psychic connection I keep telling you we have.

Theo: Wow. Claire, I...

Claire: [Giggles]

Doug: I thought Gabi's ornament there was damaged a couple years ago.

JJ: No, it was. But I got her a new one. Never had the chance to give it to her.

Doug: Ah. Well, do not despair, son. Believe it or not, I was in your very position myself, and what seemed totally irreparable was miraculously put back together.

JJ: Yeah, um... I don't know, you know? Seems pretty final.

Doug: No, not as long as one person is willing to fight for the other. Do you have any idea how long it took me to talk Julie into going down the aisle and making her my wife again? No, no, don't ever give up. No. You never know when the old tide might just turn.

JJ: [Laughs]

Theo: I still can't believe you got me this card!

Claire: Yeah, well, that's not the only thing I got you. Now we can find out what Valerie's really up to with your dad.

Theo: Does it work?

Claire: Mm-hmm. Yeah, no, I tested it out on my dad when he was talking to my mom on the phone, and it picked up every little gooey thing that they said to each other. Hey, now, go distract Valerie so I can slip this in her purse.

Theo: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Claire: Okay.

Theo: [Clears throat] Um...

[Indistinct chatter]

[Dramatic music]

Claire: Mission accomplished.

Shawn: Hey. You look like you just lost a best friend. What's up?

Ciara: It's nothing.

Shawn: "Nothing" seems a lot like something. Is it Claire? Come on, I can see the tension between the two of you. Did you guys get into a fight or what?

Ciara: No, okay? No, we didn't. It's not Claire. I just--I miss mom. Doesn't feel like Christmas without her.

Brady: Listen to me. For the last time, you cannot tell Nicole that that baby is hers unless you are 100% sure.

Deimos: I would bet everything I have on it right now.

Brady: And you know what? If you lost all that money, it wouldn't mean that much to you. But to Nicole--who has already lost two babies, mind you-- it would kill her, Deimos.

Deimos: Okay, fine. Then we need to get the proof-- the sooner, the better. And I know how to get it.

Nicole: Okay. So she's really all right?

She's perfect.

Nicole: Oh, I think so too. Yes, I do.

So I want to put the baby's name and the father's name on the birth certificate.

Nicole: Oh, uh... well, I don't know the father's name. And, um, the mother asked me if I would name her.

[Chuckles] Yeah. And you would think, with all the baby name books that I've looked through, that this would be easy, right?

[Baby cooing]

Yeah. Yeah, I would think so. Mm-hmm. But you know what? Because you're a Christmas baby, I want to name you something festive, like...

[Baby coos]

Yeah, like Noelle or Natalie or Mary, of course. But none of those seem quite right.

[Baby coos]

Oh. What do you think, sweetheart, huh? What should I...

[Baby cooing]

Oh? Yeah? I agree. I know exactly what to call you. And I know exactly who you are. Yes, I do. Yeah.

[Suspenseful music]

Abigail: Hey. Hi, Thomas. Hi, sweetie. Hi. [Sniffles] I remember it always used to be really hard for you to sleep, huh? Looks like you're still having a hard time. [Chuckles] You know, when I saw you and your daddy at the square, you looked so happy. You were so happy, and you were so healthy, and... I really want you to stay that way, okay? And I don't know if you would be able to if you had a mommy who couldn't take care of you. Just a little bit unpredictable, and I don't know if I can always give you what you need. So... so I think it's best for you if I just go, okay? But I love you, sweetheart. I love you so much. And I want you to have a beautiful life. I want you to have the most wonderful life, because you deserve it, okay? Okay? I love--I love you.

[Romantic music]

Gabi: I think... we should--

Chad: Mm-hmm. Stop?

Gabi: Mm-hmm.

Chad: Okay, right.

Gabi: Yeah, it's just a little fast.

Chad: Mm-hmm, I don't want to mess this up.

Gabi: Yeah, right. Me neither.

Chad: Okay.

Gabi: Okay. Yeah. Oh, my God!

Chad: What? What's wrong?

Gabi: The time. I got to go. I got to go get Arianna ready for the Christmas party.

Chad: Okay.

Gabi: I didn't realize the time.

Chad: Yeah, me neither. Okay, but I'm only gonna let you go if you promise to give me a rain check on dinner.

Gabi: How about a rain check for everything?

Chad: Okay.

Gabi: Okay.

Chad: I love you. I love you.

Gabi: I love you too.

Chad: Okay, good. I'm glad we settled that.

Gabi: Yeah.

Chad: I'll walk you out.

Gabi: Yeah.

Brady: What kind of proof are you talking about, hmm?

Deimos: A simple DNA test on the baby will show whether or not Nicole is the mother.

Brady: You know damn well that you can't perform a test like that without Chloe's permission.

Deimos: Oh, yeah, because I'm all about getting permission.

[Baby cooing]

Nicole: That's it. The perfect name for a perfect little girl. Yeah. Holly. You're holly, and I'm auntie Nicole. Yes. And even though we just met, I love you so much.

[Baby fussing]

Oh. Welcome to the world, little baby. Welcome to the world. [Sniffles] Oh, God.

[Chatter and laughter]

Julie: I can still hear grandpa tom's beautiful voice reading us the Christmas story every year, remember?

[With deep voice] Three wise men...

[With normal voice] Traveling to find the little baby boy lying in a manger. Some people believe that was god's greatest miracle, the birth of Jesus. Got me to thinking... thinking about all the miracles we ask for that never come, all the prayers that go unanswered. And I realized, that's the test of our faith. 'Cause in faith, we know prayers are heard. Prayers are answered... in miracles that we don't even expect, in ways we can't even recognize.

Doug: Hanging on for one more day... because we believe and we have faith that life is not random and that all of our struggles do matter. Our Christmas prayer for all of you is that God grants you the grace and the strength to hang on even when life is trying to make you let go, that you keep the faith, and that you remember all the things that we have to be grateful for. Because, man, there are just so many, so much. All of you in this room sit right at the top of our gratitude list.

[Holiday music playing]

O come

All: All ye faithful joyful and triumphant o come ye o come ye to Bethlehem come and behold him

[Cell phone ringing]

Rafe: Oh, yeah. It's Justin, hopefully with our Christmas miracle. Hey, counselor. What's the good word, huh? When can we get hope sprung? Okay. No, I understand, man. I know that you, uh... you did everything you could. Okay.

Hope: What?

Rafe: Um...

Hope: What--what did he say?

Rafe: Just that your appeal was denied. I'm sorry.

Hope: What?

Rafe: It's okay.

[Dramatic music]

Gabi: Abigail. God, I miss you so much. Even though... even though what's happening wouldn't be happening if you were still here... in a weird way, it's something that I-I wish I could share with you because you were my best friend. And I hope you'd be happy for Chad and me. Because I've never been this happy in my entire life.

Abigail: Bye, sweetheart. Bye.

Oh, come here. Come here, sweetheart. Oh, Thomas. Oh, I missed holding you.

[Door clicks open]
