[Gentle music]

Deimos: Go ahead and sleep, darling.  I'm gonna take care of everything. I've spent my whole life waiting for someone like you, Nicole. And I'm gonna spend the rest of my life making sure you have everything you've ever wanted. I love you so much.

Nurse: How about Monday at 8:30 in the morning?

Adrienne: Oh, no, that's not gonna work.

Nurse: Tuesday at 5:00?

Adrienne: I-I don't have my book with me and my phone just died, so I'm gonna get back to you on that, okay?

Nurse: But the doctor--

Adrienne: No, really, just leave me alone. I-I'll call you. I promise. Oh, my God, if you're following me, you can just cut it out right now.

[Gentle Christmas music playing]

Joey: Hey.

Jade: Hey. Thanks for coming.

Joey: Sure. Can you eat anything?

Jade: Well, I ordered tea and toast, so I'll see how that goes.

Joey: Sorry you have to go through all that.

Jade: It's... my doctor said that stress makes the puking worse, so I thought that me and you could try to get along today.

Joey: I don't want to make you sicker. But I can't get over the fact that you didn't tell me you were off the pill.

Jade: Joey, I hated being on the pill. It was making me fat and giving me headaches.

Joey: You got pregnant on purpose.

Jade: No, I did not. I just thought if it did happen, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. [Sighs] Oh, God.

Joey: What?

Jade: It just... you got me all upset. Now I'm gonna [Groans] Mm-hmm.

Deimos: Brady. Nicole comes down, tell her I had to take off.

Brady: What don't you want her to know?

Deimos: I'm going to the Brookville clinic. And I'm not coming back until I find out if Chloe is carrying Daniel and Nicole's baby.

[Dramatic music]

[Gentle Christmas music playing]

Joey: Are you okay?

Jade: Yeah, I'll be fine for now. It's just... I think they call it morning sickness because it starts in the morning, but for me, it lasts all day.

Joey: Guess you didn't think of that when you went off the pill.

Jade: You weren't thinking either. Or you'd have worn a condom.

Joey: I would have if I'd known. But now we're both stuck.

Jade: Okay. You don't want to be a daddy, I get it. Because every word that comes out of your mouth tells me you'd suck at it anyway. I'll raise my baby on my own.

Brady: Morning.

Nicole: Hi. Uh... is Deimos down here anywhere?

Brady: Uh, no, no. He went out.

Nicole: Oh. Any idea where he went?

Brady: Well, he said he'd be out for a while.

Nicole: Oh. I wonder why he didn't say anything to me. [Scoffs]

Brady: So what are you doing? Going running?

Nicole: Yes, and last night, Deimos said that he wanted to come with me.

Brady: Hmm. Will I do?

Nicole: How long has it been since you've gone for a run?

Brady: Try me.

Justin: Honey, I just want to know how the appointment went.

Adrienne: It went swell. Look, look, I texted you and Lucas about my appointment because you asked me to keep you posted, but right now, I just I just need a little space, okay?

Justin: Well, I'm not trying to crowd you.

Adrienne: Well, it kind of feels like you are, seriously.

Kayla: Hey, guys.

Steve: What's going on?

Adrienne: Nothing, nothing. I got some errands to run.

Kayla: How'd it go with Dr. Davis?

Adrienne: Fine. It went fine.

Kayla: Is that all you're gonna say?

Adrienne: [Sighs] Could you ask 'em to stop harassing me, please?

Steve: I don't think they're harassing you. I think they just love you, baby. Just like I do.

Adrienne: [Sighs] Okay. First... I got the lecture about canceling my mammogram appointment. And then... I found out I'm stage 2.

Justin: Well, what does that mean?

Kayla: It means that the cancer hasn't left the breast and, um but, you know, that's a good thing.

Adrienne: Yeah, yeah, that's what I thought. [Clears throat] But then I had the fun of learning that because I have the BRCA gene mutation, breast cancer in me tends to be more aggressive, so my doctor wants me to have a double mastectomy and chemo. And that's the 411. Any more questions?

[Soft dramatic music]

Justin: Should we put a jellybean on the top?

Adrienne: It's gonna be fine. No, I have my treatment plan and I know what the bottom line is. Everything's under control.

Kayla: So you're gonna get chemo before the surgery?

Adrienne: Yep. To shrink the tumor. Maybe it'll just melt away.

Kayla: That has been known to happen.

Adrienne: See? And my tumor, it's less than five centimeters, which is, like, an inch. I mean, I'll still need the surgery, but, you know, now, just... one step at a time.

Kayla: You're absolutely right.

Adrienne: And Dr. Davis, man, he knows what he's doing.

Kayla: He's the best.

Adrienne: And he said the surgeon you referred me to, he's done tons of mastectomies. I mean, and I get to have reconstruction, which is great 'cause who knows? Maybe I'll end up with the hooters of a 20-year-old, you know, which would be awesome. I'm sorry. Seriously. I really, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your concern, but really, I'm fine. Really fine.

Justin: She is so not fine.

[Somber music]

Nicole: Okay. You know what? I said let's go for a run, not a five-mile sprint.

Brady: Someone can't handle the pace, huh?

Nicole: What? Oh, I can to oh. I can totally handle the pace, okay? You are so competitive.

Brady: I'm competitive?

Nicole: Yes.

Brady: Oh, you don't care about winning at all, right?

Nicole: No! What? Yes, of course.

Brady: N-Nicole, a year ago you're talking to the man that you threw a tennis racket you threw it at my head because you thought that shot was in, last year, and it was ridiculous.

Nicole: Well, it certainly wasn't out, okay?

Brady: And poker? You want to talk about poker and how grumpy you get? You're the grumpiest poker...

Nicole: Grumpy?

Brady: Player in the world.

Nicole: In the whole entire world? Really, you know every player in the whole world?

Brady: Not in the world, in the universe.

Nicole: Well, you know what? You're a cheaty cheaterson. [Laughs]

Brady: [Laughs] Jeez.

Nicole: It's great to see you laugh.

Kate: I agree.

Nicole: Oh, hi, Kate.

Brady: Mm.

Kate: But I guess we're all gonna be in a better mood now that Theresa's left town.

Nicole: Kate.

Kate: You know, I really can't believe that we went into business with that woman.

Nicole: Are you serious? That's enough.

Kate: But what she did to you and the baby, that really is unforgivable.

Nicole: Stop.

Kate: Nicole, I'm trying to be nice.

Nicole: Nice? That's not possible, okay? You suck at it.

Kate: Ha. Have a good day.

Brady: [Sighs] Thank you. I did not want to engage in that. You know, I'm -- [Chuckles] Everyone just wants to talk about Theresa, and I just want to move on. It's not easy, you know?

Nicole: Yeah, tell me about it.

Brady: Speaking of moving on.

Nicole: Mm. What?

Brady: You're not wearing Daniel's engagement ring. How come?

Deimos: Thank you. I came here in person to let you know that even though my brother has retired, the Kiriakis family foundation will continue to support the valuable work you do here at the clinic.

Lee: This is, uh, extremely generous. I'm very grateful.

Deimos: Yes, it is. And I'm hoping that means that you'll answer some questions I have.

Lee: What kind of questions?

Deimos: The kind that need to be kept quiet, may require a certain degree of flexibility with the rules.

Lee: Mr. Kiriakis, I'm getting the very uncomfortable feeling that this check is little more than a bribe. Am I wrong?

Nicole: I took the ring off last night.

Brady: Mind telling me why?

Nicole: Well, I, uh... [Clears throat] I had a dream. And Daniel... Daniel told me that I needed to let go, and I told him I didn't want to lose him. And he said he would always be there for me, one way or another. So I decided it was time to put it away.

Brady: You don't have to feel guilty about Deimos.

Nicole: Yeah?

Brady: You think Daniel would approve of him?

Nicole: I don't know. I mean, that's a hard question.

Brady: Oh, well, Maggie is Daniel's mother, but...

Nicole: And... Maggie did forgive Deimos.

Brady: Well, look, if you're happy, I'm happy. And I make no judgments whatsoever.

Nicole: But you have reservations.

Brady: Course I have reservations.

Nicole: Oh.

Brady: I'm gonna keep them to myself because who the hell am I to comment on who you should be with?

Nicole: Theresa loved you. I mean, she loves you, and I-I know she -- I'm sorry.

Brady: Don't be sorry.

Nicole: I'm sorry. I'm gonna shut up.

Brady: No, hey, stop. It's okay. I think you're right about Deimos. I think he's really worked hard to try to do right by the family. And I can tell you this. I think he would do just about anything to make you happy.

Nicole: Thanks.

Deimos: What I need from you, doctor, is really not that big a deal.

Lee: I think I've heard enough. You can have this back.

Deimos: You know what? Keep the check. No strings attached. I apologize if you mistakenly felt that I was overstepping.

Lee: Then we understand each other?

Deimos: I was simply questioning you about the nature of your work.

[Cell phone beeps]

Lee: My, uh, next patient is here. I'll walk you out.

Deimos: Allow me.

[Seedy music]

Jade: You're so selfish, you expect me to do this all by myself.

Joey: I didn't say that.

Jade: Well, that's what you're thinking.

Joey: Look, I'm gonna do whatever it takes to be a good father. So if you can't raise this baby and we can't get along, then I'll do it by myself.

Jade: Yeah, that'll happen.

Joey: I'll figure it out. I'll get my parents to help me.

Jade: Okay. Now I get it. The three of you are planning to take my baby away from me.

Joey: No.

Jade: Yeah? Well, forget it. Ow, ow!

Joey: What?

Jade: Ow.

Joey: Are you sick again?

Jade: No, no, no. No, no, this this time, it hurts.

Joey: What does that mean?

Jade: I don't know, okay? How am I supposed to know?

Joey: Okay, just...

Jade: Ah! Don't touch me. Ow. Ow, ow.

Kayla: You know, um, it's not unusual for a cancer patient to be in denial.

Steve: What denial? She just laid it all out for us.

Kayla: Well, except for Adrienne was doing that flip thing she does, you know, when, um... when she's really scared about something.

Steve: Of course she's scared. But she knows what she has to do. And it's a lot. But she's gonna do it.

Kayla: I don't think that Adrienne has even begun to deal with this.

Steve: Why do you say that?

Kayla: Because she's a woman who's gonna have to have both of her breasts removed.

Steve: For god's sake. This is my sister you're talking about, not some random patient.

Kayla: I'm sorry.

Steve: She's gonna be fine.

Kayla: I know you need to believe that.

Steve: What are you doing? Don't talk to me like I'm five years old. Are you saying you think she's not gonna make it?

Kayla: No, no. I am not saying that. I'm just saying that this is serious. And I think that maybe you're in a little bit of denial yourself because you love her so much.

Steve: I just think she's gonna beat this. That's all.

Kayla: But it's going to be a tough road, and she's going to need a lot of treatment.

Steve: You know, I'm glad my sister took off, because she doesn't have to stand here and listen to you.

Kayla: Look, I know you don't want to hear

Steve: And I'm not gonna hear it.

Kayla: Steve, come on. Steve.

Steve: No. No!

Kayla: Well, that went well.

[Cell phone beeps]

[Brooding music]

[Seedy music]

Deimos: Damn it, voice mail. Brady, Brady, hi. Listen, I'm in Dr. Lee's office. I'm sitting at his computer right now. I'm gonna put you on speakerphone.

[Cell phone beeps]

Deimos: All right, here we go. Let's see. Chloe. Okay. Looks like Chloe, Daniel, and Nicole did come here in December for an appointment together. That would have been the in vitro that didn't take. And Daniel, he died on new year's eve, right? So let's see what we got here. Nothing in march. Nothing in April. Well, what do you know? Chloe came here for an appointment by herself in may. All right, let's see if that was for the in vitro.

Lee: Tell him I'll call him right back.

Deimos: Damn it. All right.

[Cell phone beeps]

Lee: What are you doing in here? This office is always kept locked.

Deimos: Mm. You know, I got to my car and I realized that I forgot my keys. And there they are. I'll get out of your hair.

[Keys jingle]

Lee: You know, I could ask around about you and do a search on that computer. I'd bet there's a lot to find.

Deimos: Be my guest. Oh, and by the way, don't forget to cash that check. It's a lot of money.

Nicole: Whoa. Mm.

Brady: It's addressed to Theresa.

Nicole: Oh, uh, what are you gonna do?

Brady: Well, I can't forward it to her, can I?

[Soft dramatic music]

Oh, man.

Nicole: What?

Brady: It's a toy train.

Nicole: For Tate?

Brady: She must have ordered this for him for Christmas. She just taught him the words "choo-choo." [Sighs] How does she do this for him and then leave?

Nicole: I don't know, Brady. I-I'll never understand.

Brady: What happens when one day my son looks at me and he says, "dad, why did mom leave?" The hell am I gonna tell him, Nic?

Kayla: All right, I'm gonna give you some iv fluids to try to stop the pains, all right? And then your obstetrician will be up here to examine you. I need you to try to relax, all right?

Jade: Relax? Are you kidding me?

Kayla: No, just take a deep breath in and breathe out slowly. There you go. All right, do more like that. All right?

Joey: Is she gonna lose the baby?

Jade: Yeah, that would fix everything, wouldn't it?

Kayla: Joey, why don't you wait outside? I mean it. Go. Go. Go. Thank you.

[Solemn music]

Adrienne: Oh, God! You just won't leave me alone.

Justin: No.

Adrienne: It doesn't matter what I want. You just do as you please.

Justin: That was quite a show you put on for, uh, Steve and Kayla. I am not leaving until you tell me the truth.

Adrienne: [Scoffs]

Joey: [Sighs] And then she said that us three were trying to take her baby away from her. And then she got up and she doubled over. Oh, man.

Steve: Joe, she's in there with your mom. She couldn't be in better hands, right?

Joey: Yeah, I know.

Kayla: Well, we have given her some iv fluids, and so far, no more pains.

Joey: Really?

Kayla: Mm-hmm. Her obstetrician said that the vomiting could cause dehydration and that the pains were most likely abdominal cramps.

Joey: [Sighs] She told me that her doctor said that stress makes the vomiting worse. It's all my fault. I got so mad at her for getting pregnant on purpose. I should have

Kayla: Why do you think that she got pregnant on purpose, Joey?

Joey: Because I-I read something that said it takes, like, two months to get pregnant after you've been off the pill.

Kayla: That's right.

Joey: And then I-I told Jade, and she admitted that she got off the pill way before she told me she had.

Steve: Wait a minute. She knew she could get pregnant and she didn't tell you?

Joey: I never even asked her if it was okay to... I just figured she would take care of it. So it's my fault too. And now I just keep doing the wrong thing.

Kayla: Like what, Joey?

Joey: Well, I was telling Dad I... [Sighs] I told Jade this morning that I would raise the baby if she couldn't do it. And she freaked out. And...that's what started all the pain and... [Sighs] How could I be so stupid?

Steve: Hey, listen. You and Jade are having this baby together. Now, you've got to get past how that happened and try to find a way to get along.

Kayla: Your dad's right. You know this baby is better off being loved and raised by both of you.

Joey: Can you can you ask Jade if I can come in and talk to her? And just tell her I promise no more fighting and... that I'm really sorry and that I'm glad she's okay.

Adrienne: My, uh... [Clears throat] My oncologist wants me to have chemo before the surgery.

Justin: I know.

Adrienne: But I haven't scheduled the surgery yet.

Justin: That I didn't know.

Adrienne: Can't seem to make the call. I'm paralyzed.

Justin: This is all my fault.

Adrienne: How is my having breast cancer your fault?

Justin: Right after you found out about this gene mutation, you wanted to do a preventative mastectomy, and I talked you out of it.

Adrienne: [Scoffs] This may come as a shock to you, but my world does not revolve around what you think. Justin, I was never gonna have that mastectomy.

Justin: Well, you sounded like you were.

Adrienne: I know. I was just... trying out the idea. But when it came to making the call, I couldn't do it even then.

Justin: But you will now, right?

Adrienne: I don't know. I...

Justin: Adrienne.

Adrienne: Maybe I'll just wait and see.

Justin: You have to do that.

Adrienne: It's my body. I'll do what I want with it. You know, I've been reading online about hormone suppressants, about alternate treatments

Justin: Whoa, whoa, whoa. No, Adrienne, ka Kayla said that that's not going to be enough in your case. Right?

Adrienne: Okay, Justin. All right, really, what do you want me to do?

Justin: I'll call the doctor. I can... schedule the surgery for you.

Adrienne: You?

Justin: Yes. I mean, if you're paralyzed, why not let the people who love you take care of you? Let us go to the doctor with you. Go to the appointments with you. I'd be happy to do it. So would Sonny and Steve and Kayla. And even though I have issues with the guy, Lucas would go too. Take your pick. Or is that another decision?

Adrienne: I just think that you're all too close to this, honestly. I mean, I-I can no, I can see the fear in your eyes, and I can't look at that right now. And I know you love me, and I love all of you. But right now, I just I just I just need to be alone. You know?

Justin: So you, uh... you want me to go away?

Adrienne: [Sighs] That's how people leave people alone, Justin. They go away. Please. Please.

Justin: Well, you know where to find me, any hour of the day or night.

[Dramatic music]

Jade: Okay. Let's do this.

Joey: We're gonna see our baby for the first time.

Kayla: Would it be all right if Joey's dad were here?

Jade: Sure, why not?

[Soft music]

Kayla: Okay.

Jade: Well? What's going on?

Kayla: Ah. There's your baby. And there's the heartbeat right here, that blinking light. Do you see it?

Steve: Joe.

Kayla: Everything looks fine. Would you like to, uh, listen to it? Okay.

[Heartbeat whooshing]

Jade: Oh, my God. [Sniffles]

Steve: [Chuckles]

[Solemn music]

Kate: Hey. I got your text. What's up?

Adrienne: I wanted to thank you for coming to the hospital yesterday.

Kate: Wasn't a big deal. I mean, I didn't do much really.

Adrienne: You held my hand, and that's all I needed.

[Dramatic music]

Kate: When I had cancer, I didn't I didn't want to talk either. To anyone.

Adrienne: I'm stage 2. [Clears throat] Stage 2. When I first found out that I had the gene mutation, doctor gave me these.

Kate: [Sighs] Well, this would work if you want to scare your patient to death.

Adrienne: My doctor wants me to have chemo before and after the double mastectomy.

Kate: When's that gonna happen?

Adrienne: Well, I'm supposed to schedule it all.

Kate: You're "supposed to"?

Adrienne: [Scoffs] I just can't make myself make the call.

Kate: You went up against Sami Brady when you thought will wasn't right for Sonny. Now, how does cancer compare to that?

Adrienne: [Laughs softly] I was doing that for Sonny.

Kate: Yeah. And now you have to be just as fierce an advocate for yourself.

Adrienne: I don't think I have it in me, Kate.

Kate: If there's anything that you have plenty of, it's guts, Adrienne. It's one of the things I can't stand about you.

Adrienne: [Laughs]

Kate: I think all you need is a jump start.

Adrienne: What do you mean?

Kate: What's your oncologist's name?

Adrienne: Dr. Mark Davis. Why?

[Cell phone beeps]

[Line trills]

Kate: Yes, hi. Could I have Dr. Davis' office?

Adrienne: Hey, what are you doing?

Kate: Hello, this is Adrienne Kiriakis' personal assistant. Could you hold, please?

Adrienne. No.

[Tender orchestral music]

Hi. I'm ready to make that appointment now. As soon as possible.

[Toy train chugging]

Nicole: Beep! No, no, no. No, no, no, stop! Stop! Stop!

Brady: You said "beep."

Nicole: I know. I listen to me. "Beep, beep" starts the train.

Brady: I stopped.

Nicole: "Beep, beep" gets the train moving forward. You were going way too fast.

Brady: Oh, I'm sorry, Casey Jones.

Nicole: Oh, my gosh.

Brady: I didn't mean to beep wrong.

Nicole: Well, you want to burn out the engine?

Brady: If you burn out the engine, you can just add batteries. It's four AA batteries. I know how to put batteries in.

Deimos: Nice train.

Nicole: Hey.

Deimos: Hey.

Nicole: Where have you been?

Deimos: I had an appointment I had to run out to.

Brady: How'd that go?

Deimos: Very well, I think.

Nicole: Well, I'd glad you're back.

Deimos: Me too.

Nicole: Mm-hmm. Okay, well, I'm gonna go take a shower and change. And make sure he doesn't run that train too fast.

Deimos: All right, madam conductor.

[Seedy electronic music]

Brady: What'd you find out?

Deimos: You didn't get my message?

Brady: No, I didn't.

Deimos: Chloe, Nicole, and Daniel did have an appointment together at the clinic in December. But then Chloe had another appointment by herself in may.

Brady: In may, for what? What was the appointment for?

Deimos: I don't know. I got interrupted before I could find out. But think about it. The time frame makes sense. If Chloe had a successful in vitro in may, she'd be seven months pregnant now. That's right on target. Which means it's possible she could be carrying Nicole and Daniel's baby.

Adrienne: No, you don't have to give me a reminder call. No. I'll be there.

[Cell phone beeps]

Kate: See? That wasn't so hard, was it?

Adrienne: Ha, no. Not at all.

Kate: [Laughs softly] You're not made of stone, silly.

Adrienne: [Sniffles] Oh, Kate. [Crying] Kate. I'm so scared.

Jade: All this time, I've been saying "the baby" this and "the baby" that. Just wasn't real to me. It's just something that made me heave all the time, fixed it so I couldn't get drunk or high. But now it's my baby girl.

Joey: Or boy.

Jade: You're gonna be a daddy. And I'm gonna be a mom.

Joey: I'm really sorry for what I said at the pub.

Jade: I'm sorry about a lot of things. But I'm not sorry about her... or him. Are you?

Joey: No. I'm not.

Steve: You were great with those kids.

Kayla: Mm. So were you.

Steve: I'm really sorry I got angry and ran out like that.

Kayla: I'm sorry I was so blunt.

Steve: It's okay.

Kayla: I was just, uh, so blindsided with Bo.

Steve: And you didn't want the same for me. I understand. Kayla, I want you to tell me the truth. Don't sugarcoat it.

Kayla: This is what I can promise you. I will make sure that she gets the best treatment possible. And there's something I should have told you. They have made so much progress with breast cancer. If Jade and Joey have a girl, she mostly likely won't have to worry about breast cancer in her lifetime.

Steve: Those kids. Did they just give away their youth?

Kayla: I know what you mean.

Steve: Are we gonna end up raising that baby?

Kayla: Oh. I can't think about that right now. I do know that they're gonna need our backup for sure.

Steve: Well, they're gonna have it.

Kayla: You're gonna be good at it.

[Tender music]

Brady: I just I-I don't get it. I don't get it why Chloe would do something like this and not tell Nicole.

Deimos: Well, she knew it didn't work out the first time. Maybe she didn't want Nicole to get her hopes up.

Brady: Yeah, but listen, she's seven months along. She's going to give birth to this baby. If it's Nicole's and Daniel's, why wouldn't she tell her?

Deimos: I believe...

Brady: It's a good thing.

Deimos: It's because of me. Look, I used Chloe, all right? I hurt her. And then I stalked her when I thought her baby was mine. She knows that I'm involved with Nicole now. And she doesn't want me to have anything to do with that baby. To be honest with you, I can't blame her. I'm not about to walk away from Nicole. We're together now, and Chloe's just gonna have to deal with it.

Brady: All right, Deimos, what are you gonna do now?

Deimos: Well, first, I have to be 100% certain that what I'm thinking is true.

Brady: Right. And then what?

Deimos: Well, if it is true, I'm gonna do whatever it takes to make sure that Nicole gets her baby.
