Gabi: Okay, so how formal is this thing tonight?
Chad: From what I hear, they are pretty chill for being CEOs.
Gabi: Okay, so how about maybe we skip the whole white shirt/tie thing and we try something chill?
Chad: Mm-hmm. See, I have a--I have another problem.
Gabi: What's that?
Chad: They want to set me up with this woman that they know, so not only are they CEOs; they're wannabe matchmakers.
Gabi: Great, yeah. I mean, maybe you'll like her.
Chad: It's a blind date. I hate blind dates. I don't know how to get out of it. Please.
Gabi: Chad, well, why don't you just go? Maybe you'll like it.
Chad: What are you-- what's JJ doing tonight?
Gabi: Well, he's working.
Gabi: He has to work tonight.
Chad: Great, you're my date.
André: I don't think that's a good idea.
Chad: I didn't hear you come in. I also didn't ask for your opinion, so--
André: You know, I don't think you should be dragging her into business affairs. It just doesn't seem professional. And besides, God knows she's got nothing to contribute.
Steve: Okay, thanks. Still no sign of her.
Kayla: You know, I really should have seen this coming.
Steve: How could you know she'd run away?
Kayla: I--I knew that she was overwhelmed. I should--I should have stayed with her. I should have--I should have been more careful.
Steve: You don't know Adrienne. If she made up her mind to run away, nobody was gonna stop her.
Justin: Where the hell is she? I've looked everywhere I can think of, all the places we used to go to.
Lucas: Well, that was a waste of time.
Justin: Oh, Lucas, thank you for your input. I was curious about what your opinion was.
Lucas: I just meant she's not gonna go back to someplace in her past. She's looking for something.
Sonny: Well, I'm gonna try her again. Hey, mom, it's me again. Can you please let us know where you are? At least let us know that you're okay.
Louis: I hope you got some sleep.
Adrienne: Some. Thanks for putting up with me and for putting me up.
Louis: So you're back here wrestling with the same problem? Two men in your life?
Adrienne: No. Well, yes. Well, it's all tied together. [Sighs] They say God doesn't give you more than you can handle, right?
Louis: Yeah. Why don't you tell me what's going on?
Adrienne: Well, the big thing is... this is all my fault. And I'm not the only one who's gonna suffer for what I did... or didn't do.
Louis: Your family?
Adrienne: I'm scared. And not just for me. For the people I love.
JJ: Their car's still out there.
Abigail: Ugh. I thought they were going out for the day.
JJ: Once they leave, you can come out.
Abigail: Mm, I know. I'm sorry. I shouldn't be mean about Doug and Julie. They're actually really wonderful.
JJ: Mom said you spent some time with Thomas yesterday.
Abigail: God, he has grown so much since I've been gone. It was awful saying good-bye to him again.
JJ: Abigail. You don't have to keep doing this, hiding. There is nothing going on with Chad and Gabi. Gabi and I, we're back together. We're better than what we were before.
Abigail: I am--I'm really happy for you, JJ. I-I want you to be happy.
JJ: And vice versa. Gabi and I are taking Arianna to go see Santa today. Don't you want to put Thomas on Santa's lap? Take his picture? Help him hang his ornament on the Horton tree?
Abigail: Yeah, of course. I want all of that. But I--I don't want Chad to know.
JJ: Chad needs to know. And once he gets his head around what happened, you two can start over.
Abigail: No! No, JJ, it is too late. I have made a decision, and it's not fair for me to just jerk him around.
JJ: Do you think it's fair to let him keep grieving for you? To worry about raising his son without a mother?
Abigail: It's better this way. It's better that I go back to grandma's.
JJ: Damn it, it is not better, Abigail.
Abigail: I'm doing this for their sake-- for my son, for my husband. Please do not make me feel like I'm a bad person, because I am doing this because I love them.
JJ: That is not love. That is what dad did to us when he walked out on us. Sure, he told himself it was for our own good. I remember. It sure as hell didn't feel good. Think about it, Abigail, about how you felt. Do you really want to do that to Chad and Thomas?
Chad: So first I want you to apologize to Gabi for being rude, and then I want you to apologize to me for interfering with my business.
André: I'm not gonna apologize to you. This is DiMera business tonight, and that makes it my business. And I am sorry. I didn't mean to be rude. I just was thrown by-- by the proposal. And, you know, you could tell these people that you're mourning for your wife and that you would feel uncomfortable having to meet somebody new.
Chad: Stay out of my business, André.
André: Oh, I'm sorry. It's just that, you know, with what Chad has been going through, I'm just a little protective of him.
Gabi: No, yeah, I get that. You think you have to protect him from me?
André: Oh, I know I do. You see, Chad's a-- a very sensitive, good-hearted, and forgiving person. I don't think he's considered the downside of escorting an ex-con to a business function. Hey there, hi.
Louis: [Sighs] I know you're worried. But you really ought to have a little more faith in the people who love you.
Adrienne: I just-- I just don't want to be a burden.
Louis: And how would you be a burden?
Adrienne: I'm sorry. I know I'm being vague. I'm just... it's very hard to talk about.
Louis: Well, then talk to him. If there's anything I can do, I'll be in the sacristy.
Adrienne: I don't know what to pray for. I just feel lost.
Louis: Tell him that. He's heard it before. And he already knows what you need.
Steve: I'm gonna meet Paul at the pub and try to work out where to look next.
Kayla: You've been up all night. Don't you think you should get some rest, go home?
Steve: Well, yeah, but even if I could sleep, our home isn't exactly a quiet, peaceful place right now since jade moved in.
Kayla: Oh. Oh, no, I think you're being too hard on our jade. In fact, just yesterday, after I cleaned up her dishes from the sink and washed the towels that she had left all over the bathroom floor, she said, "sorry."
Steve: Wow. Well, as soon as we know that Adrienne's all right, I think we're gonna have to set down some house rules.
Kayla: Mm. And I'm sure that jade's going to embrace them in the spirit that they are given. "Clean up after yourself or get out."
Joey: I heard you're supposed to have a lot of fresh fruit.
Jade: Oh, you're so sweet to me. This is just how I imagined it would be when I found out I was pregnant. Mm. And just so you know... I'm not a big fan of pineapple, but the strawberries look delicious.
Joey: Oh, right, sorry.
Jade: No, it's nothing to be sorry about. We're both getting used to this. It's not like either of us planned it, right?
Abigail: Hi, hi.
Jennifer: Here you go.
Abigail: Thank you. Ugh, I got to say, it's pretty great to get out of that attic.
Jennifer: I can imagine. I know how much you enjoyed seeing Thomas yesterday. I mean, I--I could try to work it out and bring him back again.
Abigail: I don't really think that that's a good idea. I mean, it would just make it harder to say good-bye--
Jennifer: Yeah. Yeah, that's okay. Whatever you say.
Abigail: Look. I know that you're just trying to help me, but I really feel like you and JJ are just pressuring me into doing something that I really don't think--
[Knocking at door]
Jennifer: No, I--
Abigail: Who's that?
Jennifer: Go, just go.
[Knocking at door]
Jennifer: Lucas, hi. Wait, I--Lucas. Wait, Lucas! I'm--I'm sorry. This is--it's not a good time.
Lucas: Jenn, this is important. Adrienne passed out last night. We had to take her to the hospital.
Jennifer: What? Is she okay?
Lucas: I don't know. It doesn't look good. I mean, I could see the look on Kayla's face. She was concerned. She ordered tests. And before she could get the results, Adrienne just took off, and no one knows where she is.
Jennifer: Oh, Lucas.
Lucas: Has she called you? Did she stop by here? Did she get in touch with you?
Jennifer: I haven't talked to her since before the wedding. And--but, I mean, she'll turn up. You'll find her.
Lucas: I don't know what to do. Is somebody here?
Jennifer: Uh, oh, JJ stopped by this morning.
Lucas: JJ was looking for Adrienne all last night. If he stopped by this morn-- if he stopped by this morning, he would have told you about that.
Lucas: Oh, come on, Jenn! This coffee is hot! Where is she?
Lucas: Don't give me that! You're hiding her, aren't you? This is ridiculous.
Jennifer: Lucas, wait. Lucas!
Lucas: Adrienne! Adrienne!
Gabi: You think the fact that I did time is a liability? To what, the DiMera name? The shining reputation? The great work of Stefano DiMera?
André: Chad is determined to change that reputation. But you, you'd be a problem in him being able to achieve all that.
Gabi: You're wrong. I've already helped him.
André: What? Choosing suits and ties? [Scoffs] Please. There's a big difference between that and socializing with business associates. And when they talk about traveling to Biarritz, what are you going to share with them? The funny anecdotes that came from your prison laundry room?
Gabi: You know, I'd be careful saying anything like that in front of Chad, because he hates hypocrisy. Actually, he really, really hates snottiness.
André: Hypocrisy? You're the one who's using Chad and his grief to the utmost.
Gabi: I'm not trying to do that.
André: Look me straight in the eye, and you tell me you're not trying to replace Abigail.
Chad: So... what do you think?
André: Well, you look every inch the successful businessman. [Chuckles] I have to run. And good luck tonight. Oh, and good luck to you too, dear. But if you find there's a lull in the conversation, talk about travel. People always like to talk about places they've been.
Chad: So I-- so you're coming?
Chad: That's great.
Gabi: I never said that, Chad. Actually, I--I can't make it. You know, you--you hired me as an image consultant, not personal escort.
Chad: Wait. Whoa, whoa, stop, stop. Is it--did he say-- what did he say? Don't listen to anything he says; he's an idiot.
Gabi: He didn't say anything. It's how I feel.
Chad: Then-- then I'm so--I'm so sorry. That was never my intention.
Gabi: No, no, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. That came out nasty, and I just--I need to find better use of my time. I need to expand my clients. I need to do more for my business. I have to--
Chad: Great. I can help you.
Gabi: No, you cannot help me. I have to do this on my own, Chad, okay? I have to resign.
Chad: What? No, you can't--you can't be serious.
Gabi: I'm serious.
Chad: Gabe, what is this-- what is this--what is this about? Is this-- is this about us? What happened? Is that it? From the first moment you met
Lucas: She's upstairs, isn't she?
Jennifer: No, I swear.
Lucas: Isn't she?
Jennifer: I swear to you...
Lucas: Then why are you blocking the stairs like that?
Jennifer: I'm not-- I'm just trying to keep you from tearing my house apart. I mean, you said that she had a medical condition, so if she were here, I would tell you, right?
Lucas: Yeah, right. Yeah, I guess you would. It's just I'm really scared for her right now.
Jennifer: I know. Of course you are, but let me help you find her.
Lucas: I don't know. Justin and Sonny are doing everything they can, and I think Steve even said Paul's working on it.
Jennifer: Okay. All right.
Lucas: I just hate to think of her being alone right now.
Justin: Sonny, any luck?
Sonny: No. I called other clinics and doctors. I was hoping she went for help, you know, someplace where nobody knows her.
Justin: I know. I think Paul already checked.
Sonny: Well, dad, you know, I'm trying to do something here.
Justin: I know. I know. I know, son. I know you are.
Justin: It's okay.
Sonny: No, because I did this. I locked her in that hotel room. Why did I smother her? I was smothering her.
Justin: How many times do I have to tell you this is not your fault? Your mother has been denying what's wrong with her for a while now. She ran because she didn't want to face the test results. That's the truth.
Sonny: Yeah, but it doesn't change the fact that what I did made everything worse. And I understand that she's scared, but why is she doing this alone?
Justin: She won't be alone, all right? We will find her. And then we'll all deal with this together. Okay?
[Phone line ringing]
Adrienne: Hi, this is Adrienne. Can't pick up the phone right now, but leave a message, and I'll call you back.
Justin: Adrienne, this is Justin. I'm with Sonny. I just want you to know that we are not pressuring you in any way. But you need to come home.
Adrienne: [Mouthing words]
Gabi: There's no us, Chad. I'm with JJ.
Chad: Yeah, yeah. Obviously, I know that, and that's--that's great, but that doesn't mean we can't work together.
Gabi: I just think that--
Chad: And of course you don't have to go to that ridiculous dinner tonight. But that doesn't mean you have to quit, okay? And if you want to expand your business, dropping your biggest client isn't the way to do that, Gabi.
Gabi: Okay, I just don't think this is working.
Chad: Well, okay. Well, I do. And I can't--I can't-- I can't do this without you.
Gabi: Yes, you can. You will. You're doing it. You know, you're going to change people's minds about DiMera enterprises. You're gonna do it, and Thomas is gonna be so proud of you.
Chad: And none of that means you have to quit.
Gabi: I have to do this for myself, Chad, okay? I'm sorry. Bye.
Chad: Okay, yeah, well, if you change your mind...
Gabi: I won't. Um, thank you... for everything.
Jade: You know, I'm really grateful to your parents and everything, but I think them making us sleep in separate rooms is just a little harsh. I mean, we are going to be raising a baby together.
Joey: It's their house.
Jade: Yeah, I guess, but isn't there something you can do about that? I mean, are they so old as to think that a bed is the only place you can make love?
Joey: Jade. This wasn't good news for them. So I don't think this is-- I mean, they're trying really hard to deal with it, but I don't think this is any time to get in their face.
Jade: Whatever. Have you been thinking about marrying me before the baby's born?
Joey: [Sighs] I don't know. I haven't thought that far ahead. I just... want to do what's best for the baby, I guess.
Jade: Yeah, well, I think having two married parents is what's best for it.
Joey: I was thinking more like, you know, we learn how to take care of it. Him or her. You know, get baby books. I don't have a clue about pregnancy or newborns or any of that.
Jade: Well, your mom is a doctor, and she'll know how to take care of it.
Joey: No, I'm talking about me. I don't want to be like my dad. He left us. I mean, he thought he had good reasons to, but I don't think there's ever a reason not to be with your kid.
Abigail: Chad? Um, this place is-- okay, okay, first of all, the couch is horrible. There's really ugly busts out in the hallway. There's cracked portraits. I mean, I don't even want to get started on--
Chad: Okay, stop. Stop for a second, all right? I-I-I-- a house is just a bunch of rooms, right? Walls, floor, ceiling. And when this is ours, when we have-- close your eyes. Close your eyes and trust me. Walk with me.
Chad: Whoa. When you open them, I want you to imagine that all of the-- the old, old, old books are gone and all of the busts and all of the creepy old furniture. And then I want you to imagine that all of that is replaced and the walls are painted a beautiful light color and there are pictures of our family all over the place. Thomas's toys are scattered all over. Are you imagining that?
Chad: Now open them. Wait, no, close them. I'm sorry. I forgot daisy's crib is in the corner.
Chad: Yeah, our daughter.
Abigail: [Laughs] Oh, yeah, our daughter.
Chad: Hold on. Wait a second. What is that? Is that fluffy I hear barking somewhere? Fluffy!
Chad: Yeah, fluffy, all right? It's a perfect name for a dog that's gonna run around and play with Thomas and chase balls all over the house.
Abigail: I don't know about that name.
Chad: Okay, well, fine. It doesn't have to be fluffy.
Abigail: I meant daisy. And, Chad, we can't really be sure that our next child is gonna be a girl.
Chad: Okay. Well, then you can name our next child whatever you want. And our third.
Abigail: Somebody's planning on a big family.
Chad: It's our future. Might as well plan big.
JJ: Mom has a picture of me sitting on Santa's lap. I was screaming my head off. Every year, mom and Adrienne would take all of us kids.
Gabi: Hey, listen. You're gonna find her. She's gonna be okay.
JJ: I don't know. I spoke to Sonny this morning. He's a wreck. So you said you had something to tell me.
Gabi: Oh, um, doesn't seem like a good time right now.
JJ: More bad news?
Gabi: Um, not bad, just news. I won't be working for Chad anymore.
JJ: What? Why? You love that job. What happened?
André: I'm sorry to interrupt. Oh, is Gabi gone?
Chad: You should know. You engineered it.
André: Oh, I'm sorry.
Chad: No, you're not, but you will be if you did what I think you did.
André: Oh, no, I apologized to Gabi, and she accepted, which is something I think you should--
Chad: She quit.
André: [Gasps] No, really?
Chad: What did you say? What'd you say to her?
André: Well, you heard what I said. And I stand by my word. I just didn't think it was a very good idea for her to be your plus one tonight. You know--and I said that in front of both of you. I complimented her on the suit after you left, and-- I can't understand that that's the reason why she would quit.
Chad: That's--that's all you said?
André: Why is it always my fault? Why, did she accuse me of something else?
Chad: No, she just made up a bunch of excuses that didn't make any damn sense.
André: [Sighs] You know what it is? I think she just doesn't want to tell you the real reason-- that you've been leaning on her too much, taking up too much of her time.
André: No, no, no, no. And I'm saying this with love, Chad. I think she saw what I see, and that is that you're ready to stand on your own two feet and move on. I think what she did was a blessing. It's the Phillips' lady!
Joey: What is all that?
Jade: Um, things we need for the baby.
Joey: You said you needed vitamins, which is why I gave you my mom's card.
Jade: Sorry, I didn't know I needed to submit a purchase order.
Joey: You ready to go?
Jade: Back to Guantanamo? Let's stay here. Fresh air is good for the baby.
Jade: So I got this cream that is supposed to keep you from getting stretch marks. I hope you tell this kid what I went through for it.
Joey: Jade, can you not call it "it"? It's not an it; it's a person.
Jade: Well, somebody's sensitive. I don't know whether it's a boy or a girl. And... oh, you know, we should call it player to be named later.
Jade: What are you reading about?
Joey: Chapter one is about getting pregnant.
Jade: Well, we can skip that part.
Joey: No, listen. It says to be safe, a woman should be off the pill for two cycles before trying to conceive.
Joey: So you were on the pill when you got pregnant. You've got to go to a doctor, make sure the baby's okay.
Jade: The baby's fine.
Joey: You don't know that.
Jade: Yes, I do. I've been off the pill for a while.
Joey: What? Are--are you serious?
Gabi: Oh, I was-- I was thinking that I could probably have more clients and expand my business if I wasn't so tied up with Chad.
JJ: Right. Well, this kind of seems out of the blue. Are you sure you shouldn't give it more thought?
Gabi: I'm sure. I'm sure, okay?
JJ: Something happened.
Gabi: Um, mayb--maybe. No. Look, Chad invited me to a business dinner.
JJ: He did that before.
Gabi: Yeah, I shouldn't have done that. I have a prison record, and I'm trying to be an image consultant?
JJ: It didn't seem like Chad minded.
Gabi: Yeah, well, he wasn't thinking clearly, and neither was I. JJ, I was convicted of a murder, and that's-- that's public record. That's never gonna go away.
[Country version of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" playing]
Steve: You know, you could have called me, Kayla, Sonny, Justin, or Lucas even if you wanted some chowder. We would have brought you some chowder.
Adrienne: Good to see you again too.
Steve: [Sighs] You scared the hell out of us.
Adrienne: Don't you think I know that? Do you think I'm proud of running away?
Steve: [Sighs] No. No.
Adrienne: I guess that whole fight-or-flight thing kicked in. [Sighs] How do I fight this?
Steve: Be a whole lot easier for me to give you hell if I hadn't done exactly the same thing way too many times. But you know what? You don't have to do that anymore. You don't have to run away. Because everyone wants you back, and I mean everyone.
Adrienne: It's so stupid. When I was away, I knew it. I knew how stupid I was being and what I was-- what I was doing to the people who love me.
Steve: Well, you're back now. That's what's important.
Adrienne: Ooh, that's good chowder.
Steve: Is that why you really came back? Caroline's chowder?
Adrienne: [Whispers] No. I came back because... it's time to talk to Kayla.
Jade: You don't have to flip out about it.
Jade: I stopped taking the pill when I was at my grandmother's.
Joey: Then why didn't you get back on the pill when you got back?
Jade: Okay, don't lecture me about birth control. You're the one who just left it all up to me.
Joey: No, I used condoms when you said I should. And I'm not lecturing you. I'm asking you.
Jade: Well, it doesn't feel that way. And for your information, I thought it was the time of the month when I couldn't get pregnant.
Joey: Well, you thought wrong. Did you get pregnant on purpose? 'Cause it sure as hell seems like you did.
Chad: Losing Abby, it, uh,--it hurt so much, but it was like the pain kept her alive.
Louis: And now the pain is lessening.
Chad: Yeah. It--it feels like the more it does, the more I'm letting her go. Loving her is just slipping into the past, and I hate that, because it feels like I'm betraying her.
André: I'm sorry, sorry. I hope you don't mind me dropping by. I just thought it was time for you and I to have another talk.
Justin: She didn't call. She just showed up at the pub.
Justin: I know. She's back. That's all that matters.
Kayla: We're gonna take good care of her, Justin. You okay?
Lucas: Yeah. Yeah, look, maybe I should go. I think this is just for family.
Kayla: No. And it's too late anyway. I think she'll be glad you're here.
Adrienne: I'm sorry.
Sonny: You're back. That's all that matters.
Adrienne: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, Lucas.
Lucas: No, it's okay. It's fine. You needed time.
Justin: We're just glad you're back.
Adrienne: Yeah, I'm back. Well... it's time for the $64,000 question, isn't it? So what's wrong with me?
Jade: I don't think you should be getting mad at me. I'm pregnant and very emotional.
Joey: You're dodging the question. Did you get pregnant on purpose?
Jade: You can't get pregnant just by wanting to, so no. And I didn't get pregnant alone.
Joey: [Scoffs] Are you unhappy that you did? Why didn't you tell me to use a condom?
Jade: Have you ever heard about living in the moment? I love you, and I was carried away. Joey, we're soul mates. Please don't be mad at me. We're gonna have a baby and a family, and I want you to be happy about that.
Joey: I don't know how I feel right now. I need-- I need time to think, time alone.
Jade: Joey. Joey!
Louis: I think what's happening is that you're moving through the stages of grief. Now, it's my belief that those stages are all part of god's plan. He gives us a path back to living a full life. And I think that God and Abigail want the pain to ease up.
Chad: Yeah, but I-- I nev--I never-- I never saw her body. I never got to say good-bye. And I think a-- a part of me just doesn't want to believe that she's gone. I-I--doesn't want to-- I mean, damn it, I don't-- ooh, I'm not supposed to say that here.
Louis: [Laughs] Well, I think there are extenuating circumstances. Look, God knows how much you're carrying right now, and-- and he knows how hard you're trying to take care of your son. And I think you're right. I think it's harder because you weren't able to say good-bye. There was no closure.
Chad: No gravesite.
Louis: Perhaps a monument or a shrine in her honor, someplace that you can go and still feel connected to her?
Chad: Sure. All right, I'll think about that. Look, thank you for talking.
Louis: Oh, yeah. I'm always here. And, son, God doesn't want you to feel guilty. He wants you to remember Abigail. He wants you to tell your son all about her. But he also wants you to move on. None of us know god's plan. But I think maybe, maybe there'll be love for you again in the future.
Chad: Maybe. I hope so.
André: There's something that you need to know. I didn't like what was going on between Chad and ms. Hernandez, so I put a stop to it.
Abigail: Oh, I don't think you had to do anything. It sounds like JJ and Gabi are back together.
André: Maybe. What I'm saying is Chad's a catch. He's got his looks, his money. He's got brains. And Gabi's not the only woman on the prowl out there. You need to trust me and do exactly what I tell you right up until the time you're gonna reemerge.
Abigail: No, I can't. No, Chad is gonna hate me.
André: No, no, no. Let me handle Chad. I'll soften him so he doesn't go into shock. And then when it is time, you're both going to be reunited. [Laughs] But you have to hurry, because you don't have a lot of time, okay?
Kayla: Want to go in the other room and just talk about this?
Adrienne: No, no. I had a lot of time to think, and... one thing I realized is that we're all in this together.
Justin: That's right.
Adrienne: [Sighs] What were the test results?
Kayla: I think you know. You have breast cancer.
Adrienne: [Sighs] [Whispers] I know.
