Sonny: Hey, where's my girl?
Gabi: Uh, well, my mom asked to see Arianna this morning, and I just didn't have the heart to say "No."
Sonny: Why? Is everything okay?
Gabi: Uh...[Sighs]. No. My dad left town again, and just not sure he's ever coming back.
Sonny: Oh, my God. I'm so sorry.
Gabi: Yeah, I tried to explain it to Ari, but I just don't think she understands. She asks for will. All the time, and--and now that her godmother is gone too, I just--
Sonny: No, I--I haven't given up on Abigail yet.
Gabi: Sonny, you haven't heard?
Sonny: Heard what?
Gabi: Um... well, JJ called me last night. And, um, he had some really bad news.
Chad: I understand, lieutenant. I--I--and I appreciate everything you've done to, um... [Stammers] Thank you.
[Knocking on door]
Chad: Come in. Just spoke to the coast guard. Not that I didn't believe JJ already.
Jennifer: No, I understand.
Chad: [Sighs] You know, I, um... I thought I would come to grips with-- with all of this. You know, but I'm still holding on to some sort of hope that she's gonna... and I know there's none.
Jennifer: Chad, I know-- I--I know the grief, and the shock that you feel. But please, if-- if we could just have one more conversation about Thomas, please.
Chad: After everything that's happened, you're still gonna take Thomas away from me? Aren't you?
Claire: Thank you so much for this dress. I love it.
Belle: Well, once you get your first paycheck, I'm not gonna be taking you on shopping sprees anymore, but since you needed new clothes for work...
Claire: Yeah, well I can't wait to get a gown for my first awards show.
Belle: We said one year.
Claire: I'm sure Chloe will remember she knew me when.
Belle: Ah. [Laughs]
Claire: And again, you know, thank you so much for supporting me. I know you didn't want me to put off college.
Belle: Oh. Honey, I hope it all works out.
Claire: Well, it will. Chloe says that she loves this new song I'm writing.
Claire: Mm-hmm. You sound surprised.
Belle: No, it's just that Chloe's not usually very generous with compliments.
Claire: Well, yeah, because she has very high standards, and she's incredibly talented. It's actually hard to believe you two are friends.
Claire: Well, no, I mean, I meant, like, you know, you're my mom, and she's--
Belle: Not. Both: Right.
Claire: Well, she's just so glamorous. You know, like how could you ever call her "ghoul girl" in high school?
Belle: I didn't! I didn't do that. No, listen: That was my friend Mimi, and they were always at each others' throats. I seriously thought they were gonna kill each other.
Claire: Okay--oh. Mimi who was married to Dad?
Belle: For like two seconds.
Claire: And that was when you were with uncle Philip?
Belle: We were a little mixed up back then.
Claire: Well, I wonder if that's a phase that everyone has to go through.
Belle: Why would you say something like that?
Belle: "Well... there's this boy..."
Claire: I like him, and I think that he likes me.
Belle: Okay, so, what's the problem?
Claire: I'm worried that he's not over this other girl.
Ciara: Uh, they're for Jennifer.
Theo: Yeah, um, do you think it's okay if I send flowers too? I mean, I don't know what else--
Ciara: Why don't you, uh, sign the card? It can be from both of us.
Theo: Thanks. Uh, have you talked to my uncle Chad today? I just want to tell him how sorry I am about Abigail, and I don't know, do you--
Ciara: I--I don't know. I, um, I haven't talked to him either.
Theo: Why not?
Jennifer: The last thing that I want is a custody battle.
Chad: [Snorts] Yeah, well that makes two of us. [Coughing]
Jennifer: Look at you. You--you are falling apart. And I think that you know, deep down, you cannot give Thomas the care that he needs.
Chad: That's what you keep saying.
Jennifer: Where is he right now?
Chad: He's sleeping.
Jennifer: Okay. Where's Ciara?
Chad: She's gone. Okay? I had to-- I had to let her go.
Jennifer: I know how much you love Thomas, but you cannot possibly do this on your own.
Chad: What are you--you-- what, you're gonna do better? After ODing last night? I'd be a terrible father if I handed him over to you now.
Jennifer: You're right. You would.
Chad: Then what the hell do you want from me?
Jennifer: I just want to talk about our options.
Chad: Wait, "our" options? No, you know what? I'm not having this conversation.
Jennifer: Please, Chad. We have to have this conversation--
Chad: No, no, you keep pushing me, I'm gonna push back. What do you--what do you think a court would do if they found out that you got so high and drunk that you passed out in some seedy motel last night?
Jennifer: You promised me that you would never--
Chad: You think they're ever gonna let you see him again?
Jennifer: Hold that against me, you promised.
Chad: Well, you keep trying to take him away from me, then I have no other choice.
Jennifer: That's not what I'm trying to do--I don't want to take him from you. I don't--I--I'm trying to have a calm, rational conversation about what is best for Thomas.
Chad: Oh, thank you for being calm and rational.
Jennifer: I did not protect my daughter when I should have. And I am not gonna fail Thomas.
Chad: Protect her from what? Me?
We all need a hug in the morning...
Belle: And do I know this guy?
Belle: Okay, okay. Forget I asked. Why do you think he's interested in somebody else?
Claire: 'Cause he said so.
Claire: He also said that he needs to move on because she's just not that into him, but--
Belle: Well, in that case, that's easy. Patience is key. He'll forget about her eventually.
Belle: He's your age? Soon.
Claire: Hope you're right.
Theo: So, uh, why haven't you talked to Chad? 'Cause you moved back home?
Ciara: Yeah. Yeah, 'cause, um, my mom needed help after her surgery, and he's looking for a full-time babysitter, so...
Ciara: So... I should get these flowers to Jenn before they wilt.
Theo: Okay, well, I'll go with you.
Belle: Hi. How are you?
Ciara: Um... I'm okay.
Belle: Good. Those are beautiful flowers.
Ciara: They're for Jenn.
Belle: Oh, that's really thoughtful of you.
Claire: Mind if I come with you?
Claire: All right. I will see you later.
Belle: Okay. Please give Jennifer and her family my best.
Claire: Okay, we will.
Belle: Okay. Bye.
Chad: That's not fair. I know you blamed me when you though I was the one helping Abby escape, but now you know--
Jennifer: You made her desperate to want to leave there.
Chad: No, I didn't!
Jennifer: And you were he one who forced her to go there in the first place.
Chad: What was I supposed to do, Jennifer? She was sick. Marlena told me it was the best thing I could do.
Jennifer: Well, it was not the best thing.
Chad: What is the point of dredging all this up now? I mean, do you blame Marlena? Do you blame Abby for-- for the one being sick? Why don't I blame you for your lousy genes? 'Cause you want to throw accusations around at me. You know Abby was terrified her entire life that she was gonna end up like her grandmother? Now you're an addict. Your brother Lucas is an addict. You have a history of mental illness in your family--
Jennifer: Really? You're--you're a DiMera! You're talking to me about my bad genes?
Chad: Oh, well would you rather Thomas be the son of a serial killer?
Jennifer: I wish to God Abigail never got involved with you or Ben, but it's too late for that.
Chad: Well, now tell me that you wish that your beautiful grandson was never born?
Jennifer: I'll never say that. I am so grateful for that little boy, but I have no idea what's gonna become of him. But if you don't put his interests first, I'm gonna do it for you.
From the first moment you met
Gabi: I'm sorry. I thought that you already knew.
Sonny: I mean, my mom left me a message. I was gonna call her back later. I...[Sighs].
Gabi: I just feel really bad for JJ. You know, I think about my sister every day. Every time I say my daughter's name.
Sonny: Gabi, uh... if you have a few minutes, can I ask you a favor?
Julie: Hi, sweetheart.
Ciara: These are for Jennifer.
Lucas: She's not here right now.
Adrienne: Let me. I'll put them in a vase.
Julie: Thank you. [Sighs]
Doug: So, Theo, haven't seen you for a while. Um, how are things going since graduation?
Theo: Good. I--I've just been working.
Doug: Oh, that's excellent.
Doug: Excellent. Yeah. And, sweetie, your father told me about your job. Chip off the old block, eh?
Julie: Doug is just thrilled to have another musician in the family.
Chloe: Yeah. I mean, I'm just working as a personal assistant right now, but, you know, I'm writing some things for Chloe, and maybe she'll let me sing as a backup singer one day.
Doug: Well, that would be great, be a step in the door.
Claire: Well, I--I actually get really nervous before I go onstage, so I was hoping that I could get some performance tips from you.
Doug: I would be honored.
Theo: You don't seem nervous. I love watching you.
Claire: Oh. Thank you. My biggest fan.
Doug: Well, Theo and I will have to tussle over that title.
Julie: Tussled with you many a time, I-- sweetheart? Are you all right?
Ciara: I'm just...[Sighs]. I'm just tired of being sad.
Julie: Of course. Of course you are. I think it's wonderful that you're here to support Jennifer. She is not gonna get through this without the love of her family.
Ciara: Yeah, but what about Chad? I mean, he hardly has any family. I mean, not counting André.
Julie: Oh, nobody counts André.
Ciara: But who's gonna help Chad?
[Soft airy music]
Chad: Hey, baby. Aw, I'm okay. This is how I'm gonna remember you. The first time I saw you. [Sniffles] I thought you were the most beautiful thing that I have ever seen. [Sniffles] You were infuriating. I called you "a brat." You hated when I called you a brat...[Laughs]. But yeah, I was too. It's no wonder that we couldn't make things work for more than two seconds. I thought... I thought that we were finally gonna make it this time. I married the love of my life. Oh, your eyes were so full of hope and love, baby. Then I watched you slowly decline. We were gonna build a life together. In this house. [Laughs] I know you hated it. I promised you I was gonna renovate. You remember? I never renovated.
[Dramatic piano music]
Chad: [Sobbing] Let's renovate, baby. We could... let's do it.
[Screaming] You're making this up!
Jennifer: Thank you.
Lucas: I'm so sorry.
Jennifer: Thank you for being here. Adrienne.
Adrienne: Oh, honey.
Jennifer: Thank you so much for being here.
Doug: The kids were just here.
Julie: Ciara, Claire, and Theo. They brought those flowers.
Lucas: Is everything okay? I mean, with-- with whatever you were doing?
Jennifer: Yeah. More or less.
Lucas: Well, what can we do?
Jennifer: Oh, I wish I knew, Lucas.
Julie: Well, Doug and I were thinking, since we're all here, maybe this would be a good time to plan a memorial service for Abigail.
Jennifer: No. No, I--I... don't want to do that. [Sighs]
Lucas: Jenn, planning will's service was the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life, but it's important--it's important for you, and it's important for other people to say good-bye, to have that--
Jennifer: No. Uh-uh. I am not ready to do that. I just--mm-mm. I just need some time, okay?
Lucas: All right. All right. Okay.
Jennifer: [Heavy breathing]
Julie: Honey, since we are together... let's be together, and use this time to-- to talk about Abigail. Would that give you some comfort?
Jennifer: Yeah. Yeah, that would. Thank you.
Adrienne: When Abigail was born, jack said the craziest gift you ever got from one of your talk show fans was this stuffed hippopotamus that went...
Julie: "Moo"! Yes.
Jennifer: It was the most obnoxious toy ever. It was her favorite.
Adrienne: Of course it was. Then jack said that one night, he tried to sneak it out of her crib so that you could get some sleep, and, uh...[Laughing], Abigail about laid him flat.
Jennifer: Yes. She always knew what she wanted and how to get it. Unlike myself--I feel like I just had no idea what I was doing.
Julie: No, no. You did a wonderful job.
Jennifer: Did I?
Doug: Oh, yes, you did.
Jennifer: I remember when I hired Abigail to work for me at the hospital, you know, my coworkers just thought, "oh, you don't want to be your daughter's boss. That's a nightmare." But they didn't know Abigail. I mean, she would--she would do things before I even asked her, and she would get things done that--that didn't even need to be done. And she took care of me, and... she took care of her brother, and it was-- it was really too much.
Julie: No, it wasn't. No, honey. She was happy to do it.
Jennifer: When she was a baby, and she had aplastic anemia, my-- my prayer was that I would get to see her grow up. So it almost just seems so cruel to lose her now. But my one consolation is that she is not struggling. And she is at peace. And she is with her dad.
Doug: That's right.
Jennifer: Oh, jack. Jack, please take care of our little girl.
Ciara: I'm sorry we didn't wait for Jennifer to come back. I was afraid that I was gonna lose it and make it worse for her.
Theo: Yeah, I mean, I just kept thinking about how Abigail used to take me sledding, you know? And she would spin me around, and I'd look up at the sky, and we'd choose which cloud my mom was sitting on, and her dad. She was one of the nicest people I've ever met.
Claire: Yeah, I know.
Theo: Why don't you sing a song?
Claire: A song?
Theo: Yeah, I mean, Abigail used to take me to music therapy at the hospital sometimes. You know, music, it helps people feel better.
Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me I once was lost but now I'm found was blind but now I see 'twas grace that taught my heart to feel and grace my fears relieved how precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me I once was lost but now I'm found was blind but now I see
[Tragic piano music]
Belle: Hey. Chad.
Chad: Oh... [Sobbing]
Belle: It's okay.
Lucas: So are you gonna tell us where you were earlier? I mean, should we be worried?
Jennifer: I saw Chad. And Ciara is not working there anymore, and I don't believe that Thomas is safe.
Lucas: Look, I might be the wrong person to talk to about this, because Sami and I played tug-of-war over will for years--
Jennifer: What? No. That's completely different, Lucas.
Lucas: I don't know, Jenn. I don't know. I mean, I'm not defending the DiMeras in any way right now, but... Chad was always good to will. And I know he loved Abigail very much, so don't you think that he--he deserves another chance to prove himself?
Jennifer: No, I don't. And yeah, maybe--maybe it's not fair to put all the blame on him--yes, exactly. I trusted him with my daughter's life, and I will never make that mistake again.
Lucas: You do know, after what happened last night that--
Jennifer: No, I know, that I would never get custody of Thomas, and maybe that is not even something I can handle right now.
Lucas: What do you want to do?
Jennifer: I don't know. I just... I just--I just want my grandson to be safe.
Belle: Black and very strong.
Chad: Thank you.
Belle: What, uh, what happened in here?
Chad: I was saying "good-bye" to Abby.
Belle: And that chair, and that book?
Chad: Yeah, she hated all of this stuff. So...
Belle: You know, if you get rid of everything that reminds you of her, you won't have anything left.
Chad: Yeah, but it was cathartic.
Chad: You know, and, um, you know, in this weird way, but I was just clearing all this stuff out and... I started to... think about my life, and lack thereof. I made a decision about my future.
Belle: What's that?
Chad: I'd like you to be a part of it.
Gabi: You okay? Is this the first time you've been here since you came back?
Sonny: I don't believe that a person's... that he--that--[Clears throat]-- That he's here. But it's something that I needed to do, and I couldn't do it alone.
Gabi: Sonny, I'm here for you, okay? Just like you've always been for me. Even when I haven't deserved it or appreciated it.
Sonny: You know what this past year has taught me? You need to protect the people you love. 'Cause you never know when you're gonna lose them.
Adrienne: [Clears throat] Lucas and I were-- were talking. We are gonna postpone the wedding.
Jennifer: No, please. Please don't do that. Abigail wouldn't want that, and remember, we talked about this, that it would be--
Lucas: I know we did, but--
Jennifer: Something so happy to look forward to.
Lucas: All right. You know, if you're sure--
Jennifer: I am.
Lucas: All right, but don't pretend that you're tough, okay? And then as soon as we leave, then you fall back into--
Jennifer: Lucas, I promise you: I am not gonna use again.
Lucas: You call me if you're even thinking about it--
Jennifer: I will.
Lucas: You promise that?
Lucas: All right, and whatever we can do to help with Thomas, we'll do it. You can count on us.
Jennifer: Thank you. I love you so much, bro. You have no idea how much that means.
Lucas: I'm sorry.
Belle: What do you mean?
Chad: This house is full of ghosts. I need an exorcism.
Belle: Uh, not sure I can help you with that.
Chad: I, uh, I know. I know that, you know, what everybody has said about this place. Abby used to say it all the time. I want to change all that, and I want to--I want to do something that will make Abigail proud.
Belle: Like what?
Chad: Well, you gave me great advice. I want to make DiMera enterprises successful again. Totally legit. Not for the custody battle, but because it needs to be done. Abby would want it, and I want to do it for Thomas' future.
Belle: I think that would be wonderful.
Chad: Yes. It's--it's--now's the time the changes need to be made, and I'm gonna do it in Abby's honor.
Belle: Well, I think that's great. I just don't know what that has to do with me.
Chad: Well, it's gonna be a change from the ground up. A huge undertaking, and I'm gonna need some major legal help. Would you consider coming to work for me?
Claire: Hey, Ciara. Um, look, maybe this isn't the right time to bring it up, but--
Claire: About last night... when you walked in on me and Theo...
Ciara: Yeah. Sorry about that.
Claire: No, no, no, no. That's okay. It's just that, uh, things are going pretty well for him and me, so...
Claire: Yeah, I--I just really hope it won't make things weird for you. Or him. Or me.
Theo: I got your favorite--
Claire: Thank you.
Theo: And your favorite.
Ciara: Actually, um, you guys can have mine. I--I just-- I really got to get out of here.
Chad: Well, the pay-- [Sighs] Will you help me up?
Chad: Okay, look: The pay would be extremely competitive. I'm not gonna make you work any of those crazy attorney hours. Um, you'll have benefits and vacation and--
What, did you just, like, come up with this on the spot?
Chad: Well, I'll put it in writing for you.
Belle: Chad... listen, I haven't--I haven't been a lawyer for very long, and I've done mostly defense work. And honestly, I get to turn down cases I don't want.
Chad: Well, you can do what you want. You won't have to do anything-- you won't have to do anything you don't want to do. And--and you can keep your own practice on the side.
Belle: What did I do to deserve all these perks?
Chad: Belle, you're a great lawyer. And I know I can trust you with my life and my son's.
Belle: Thank you for saying that. You realize you're still drunk, though.
Chad: Yeah, well, it doesn't change-- look, imagine-- imagine how satisfying it would be, the daughter of john and Marlena, to say that you helped legitimize the DiMera name.
Belle: You think that's really possible?
Chad: Well, if anyone can go legit, I can. And it... and it's time. And I want to do it, and I need to do it for Abby. And I'm fairly certain she would approve of my choice.
Belle: All right. I'll think about it. But first, I think we need to clean up this mess.
Belle: Where to start...
Chad: Uh, okay.
Julie: Darling? The martin house is officially sold, so we're here for you just as long as you need us.
Doug: Until you've learned my entire repertoire of bad jokes.
Jennifer: Every single one. I'm so grateful to have you here. I have the most wonderful family.
Julie: And when you are ready to plan a memorial for Abby, there's a poem... well... it meant a lot to me when our gram passed away. "Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there; I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there--" [Crying]
Julie: "I did not die." [Sobbing]
