Provided By Suzanne
Paul: But a P.I. is supposed to be invisible, blend into a scenery. Now, how am I supposed to do that when people walk up and say, "Hey, aren't you Paul Narita?"
John: [Scoffs] Yeah, well, but you got to look on the other side also. You see, nobody's every going to believe that someone that famous is actually trailing a suspect.
Paul: Yeah, right.
John: So why do I get the feeling that that's not your only problem with the job?
[Country music playing]
Paul: I was tracking Jennifer.
John: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, for belle's case. Yeah.
Paul: I recorded her buying pills off the streets, and--and I followed her to a run-down motel. I called belle and I tipped her off and I'm sure that it helped with her case, but I felt like scum. I mean, digging into people's pain like that... I don't know if I'm cut out for this line of work, dad.
John: Yeah, well... no doubt about it, it can take its toll.
Gabi: Sorry. Guys, I'm really, really sorry. The sitter got a late start.
Adriana: It's okay, cielo. You're here now.
Gabi: Yeah, well I had to meet up with her in between classes so I don't have a lot of...time. What's going on?
Eduardo: Uh, Gabi, uh, your mother and your brothers are up to speed already. I-I appreciate you guys-- I asked them to let me be the one to tell you.
Gabi: Tell me what?
Eduardo: That it's time, sweetie. I'm leaving Salem.
Jade: Joey! Joey, hey!
Jade: Hey. How are you? It's been a long time.
Joey: Yeah, I'm good, um... how are you doing?
Jade: I'm good, um... living with my parents again.
Jade: Yeah. My dad cooled down too. Hey, I just, I want to say thanks for standing up for me that time whenever he... you know.
Joey: Yeah, it's-- it's no problem.
Jade: Um... Joey... are you avoiding me?
Steve: Why don't you come in?
Kayla: Um, so, Joey gave me permission to talk to Marlena about his sessions so-- so I did. Um, she said that he's doing great and he's making a lot of progress.
Steve: That's good news.
Kayla: Yeah, I'm really glad that, uh, you and I were on the same page about that.
Steve: [Sighs] So am I.
Kayla: He also had a-- a good idea.
Kayla: He thinks that you and I should go to couples' therapy. I agreed. What do you think?
John: Come on, don't sell yourself short. You're just getting started here; you're doing a hell of a job; never could have found Tate without you.
Paul: I mean, that-- that was so great. But this stuff with Jennifer--
John: It's the good with the bad, kid. But God, you got the world by the tail for so many reasons.
[Country music playing]
Joey: No, I'm-- I'm not avoiding you. I just... I'm just dealing with some-- some stuff. You know?
Jade: Could you be a little more vague?
Joey: It's nothing that you need to hear.
Jade: [Sighs] God, I hate it when you do that.
Joey: When I--when I do what? What am I doing?
Jade: When you act all secretive. Like I can't handle whatever you have to say or... you know, it's even worse whenever you don't tell me anything that's going on 'cause then I-- you know, I imagine the worst. And, like, you have a new girlfriend or...
Jade: You finally realized that, you know, you're out of my league.
Joey: Jade, you know that's not true.
Jade: Which part? You have a new girlfriend or that you're out of my league?
Joey: Neither one is true, jade.
Jade: Tell me something that is true, okay? Like...we've been going at turtle speed for weeks, and every time I call you it just sounds like you want to get off the phone, and your text messages are like, two words long. Okay, what's going on?
Joey: I know, I just... I've been going to therapy lately. I've been seeing a--a shrink.
Joey: Because my parents are making me. I hate it.
Jade: So quit.
Joey: I want to, but...
Jade: But what?
Joey: I don't know, it's like whenever I go, all this... all this stuff starts coming up about, like, why I'm so angry.
Jade: Come on. Joey, I'M... you know, I-I know everything-- pretty much everything about you and, you know, everything you've done. And I'm--I'm here right now so you should talk to me.
Joey: I don't want to make you mad.
Jade: Why would I get mad?
Joey: See... [Sighs] The thing is, Dr. Evans says, a lot of the reason that I'm so angry and confused is because I've been hanging out with you so much.
Kayla: Well? What do you think?
Steve: I think that therapy can work for some people. And I'm really glad it's helping Joe. But it's not my thing.
Kayla: It's not your thing?
Steve: What, that's news to you?
Kayla: Actually-- actually, it is.
Steve: [Sighs] Well, it shouldn't be. You know all the crap I went through when I was a kid. I don't see the point in dredging all that up again. And I don't want to sit around and complain about my life to some therapist who probably doesn't even give a damn.
Kayla: What are you talking about? We'll--we'll be working with Marlena. She--of course she cares about us, come on.
Steve: Still, it's not for me.
Kayla: Well, if that's how you feel, I...
Steve: No, no, no, come on...
Kayla: Guess there's nothing else to talk about.
Steve: No, no, no, no, listen, wait, wait, wait, wait. Sweetness, I'm sorry. Look...I get that therapy can work for some people, one-on-one, and that's why I wanted Joe to try it. But the idea of the two of us getting advice from Marlena about our relationship... I mean, how much can anyone know about two people when they're alone together, right?
Kayla: It's not about getting advice.
Steve: Well then, what is it? We sit there and talk for an hour and Marlena stares at us and doesn't say anything?
Kayla: No, that's not it at all. It's about us getting a chance to-- to actually talk, to see what the divisions are in our relationship. Wha--you know, where the impasses are. It--it's a chance to... I don't know, maybe she could help us find our way. I'm just saying that maybe if there's somebody there who is just objective, who could keep us from falling into the same traps that we always fall into when we discuss our relationship.
Steve: How is Marlena gonna help us do that?
Kayla: I don't know! I'm not a therapist. I'm not. I cannot predict what's gonna happen there.
Kayla: But maybe, maybe it's worth a try. Maybe it's a way that we can work our way back to each other.
Steve: I don't need a therapist to find my way back to you. I'm already there.
Steve: You're the one who's saying we can't make it work.
Gabi: I don't, uh... I just--dad, why, um, why would you feel that you...
Gabi: Hold on, wait, did you guys know about-- you knew about this the whole time and you didn't tell me, Mami?
Adriana: Sweetheart, I was going to tell you--
Rafe: Eduardo asked us not to say anything. I know Mami was hoping he was gonna change his mind. I was just trying to respect his wishes.
Dario: He's doing the right thing, Gabi.
Gabi: This is not-- this is not right.
Gabi: Okay, dad, listen, will you just--you can't leave. It's like we just got you back.
Eduardo: Well, I know how it feels, but, like your brother just said, it's the right thing to do.
Gabi: What? You don't-- you don't want to see your granddaughter grow up?
Eduardo: Please don't go there.
Gabi: It's the truth.
Adriana: I think this is a mistake too. We are family. We need to stay together.
Eduardo: I did things that I shouldn't have done. I created debts that are very hard to repay. People start making threats against the family, I--
Gabi: Okay, that's fine. A guy tried to mug me. He gets to win? Just because he made some threats? Rafe, come on, just--please.
Rafe: It's Eduardo's decision.
Eduardo: I can't stay. I can't. I can't pretend that my past doesn't exist. And I certainly can't let you guys get hurt. What happened to you can never happen again or happen to anyone else in the family. [Stammering] The best thing to do, the only thing to do... is to say good-bye.
Jade: Well, I don't want to be with someone who thinks that he shouldn't be with me.
Joey: What are you talking about? Of course, I want to be with you.
Jade: Well, you--
Joey: You know I want to be with you.
Jade: You have a funny way of showing it. Okay, why would you believe this woman when she says stuff about me anyway?
Joey: I don't--I don't know. It's not--it's not really-- it's not really about you. It's about me and--and what I--I don't know-- what I've been doing since...
Jade: Since you met me?
Joey: I don't know, it's just... you know, spray-painting that guy's car and skipping out on the court date and...
Joey: And I don't know. Running away? And meeting up with that cult?
Jade: Yeah, don't forget you almost got killed trying to save me. And that's my fault too.
Joey: I'm not...
Jade: Did you tell her, uh, about that woman, Ava? 'Cause I wasn't around when that went down.
Joey: I know, you're right. You're right. See, it--it's not all about you. It's just... I don't know, you, you're so...
Joey: What? No. You're exciting. You're exciting and you're cool and that's what I love about you. It's just that, I don't know, it--that might mean that, I don't know, I-- I'm turning into my dad.
Kayla: So you're saying this is all my fault? It's just me?
Steve: No, I didn't say that.
Kayla: Well, yes, you insinuated that. That I'm the one that has a problem with our relationship while you're perfectly willing to work it out, therapy be damned.
Steve: I didn't say that either.
Kayla: Well, yes you did in some version of it, anyway. That you could work it out and we don't need to work out our differences or our issues or anything. And if I wasn't such a pessimist...
Steve: I didn't say that. I didn't--I didn't accuse you of being a pessimist or anything like that. I love you, baby.
Steve: Look at me. I love you. All I'm saying is I'm not the one who has a problem with our relationship.
Kayla: You don't have a problem with our relationship? Are you kidding? Come on. The least you could do is meet me halfway.
Steve: Meet you halfway?
Steve: I think I've met you more than halfway. I gave up my job. You said I couldn't stop looking for danger. Well, I stopped, and I quit that life. And now what am I doing? I'm tending bar.
Kayla: So you've done your bit, is that it?
Steve: [Sighs] Sweetness, come on, it--
Kayla: It is never gonna work out with us if you're not willing to do the work.
Steve: The work? I gave up my career. I moved into this hotel to give you space so you could figure things out. You--you're telling me that doesn't count for anything? What more do I have to do to prove to you that I'm trying here?
Paul: Hey, Sonny.
Sonny: Hey, what's going on? I was just grabbing some takeout. Are you guys on lunch break?
John: Ooh, actually, I'm meeting doc on her lunch break. If Paul's sticking around, why don't you guys catch up? Hmm? I'll see you, Sonny.
Sonny: All right, see ya.
Paul: Thanks, dad.
John: You bet, kid.
Sonny: What are you thanking him for?
Paul: Oh, I've sort of been quizzing him, trying to get a little career advice.
Paul: I mean, you know me about as well as he does, so... maybe you could help. Unless you have to leave.
Sonny: Not really. Let's do lunch.
Jade: Joey, that doesn't make any sense, okay? You want to be like your dad because you love your dad.
Joey: I know, that's what I used to think. Now...now I'm starting to think that all this bad stuff's happening because I'm trying to be like him.
Jade: [Scoffs] And what? You wanted to hook up with me because I'm like your mother?
Joey: No. No, not at-- you're more like Ava.
Jade: Oh, my God.
Joey: No, I didn't mean it like that. I'm not trying to-- I don't want to keep hurting your feelings, okay? I just--I don't really know what I'm saying right now. And I should just stop talking.
Jade: Wow. After all the stuff you said about how I meant so much to you and how you love me. And now you're saying... God, I don't know what you're saying, Joey. And now it just--it looks like we're not gonna be together anymore.
Kayla: Why are you so afraid of therapy? Are there so many things in your past that you feel that you need to keep buried? Are you afraid of some demon jumping out at you? Come on. You have always been so fearless. You'll face any challenge. You will face any danger. Come on. Why are you so afraid of this?
Steve: I'm not afraid of therapy. I just don't get how it can do us any good. And I don't really think we would enjoy it.
Kayla: [Scoffs] You don't enjoy therapy. People don't enjoy it. In fact, it can be downright painful. We have to figure out why you're sabotaging yourself, why you're making bad choices. But...if your behavior changes, isn't it worth it?
Steve: I can see this means a lot to you. Let's go to therapy.
Steve: Set it up and tell me when and I'll be there.
Kayla: Um...okay. Marlena said that, um... you know, maybe there was a cancellation today and we could see her later this afternoon. Get started right away. Today.
John: Jade, could you just wait a sec? I want to talk.
Jade: What do you want to say, Joey?
Joey: I don't know. I don't know, I just-- I want to be clear about things.
Jade: Just stop, okay? You are clear. Go to hell!
Steve: What's going on, son?
Joey: Jade and I got in a fight, that's what's going on. She left.
Steve: Pretty intense.
Kayla: Uh, is there something that we can do to help?
Joey: Yeah, there's something you can do. You can tell Dr. Evans I don't want to go to therapy anymore!
Steve: Hey, take it easy, man.
Joey: It's just making things worse!
Kayla: No, Joey, come on. I mean, how many-- how many sessions have you had? Like two? These things take time. You know, Marlena is sure that she can help you or she wouldn't ask you back. In fact, she thinks that she can help us too.
Kayla: Yeah, we're gonna-- we're gonna take your suggestion and we're gonna go to couples' therapy.
Joey: No, you're not. Seriously?
Steve: Yeah, seriously. I'm trying to get our family back together, Joe. I'm willing to try anything.
Kayla: And if we can do that, Joey, so can you. These things just take time. Please?
Joey: Yeah, okay, fine. Whatever.
Kayla: Thank you. Just hang in there, all right? I got to get to the hospital. I'll see you later.
Joey: Dad, are you sure about this?
Joey: I mean, sometimes mom starts talking and pretty soon she thinks everyone believes what she's saying, and...I don't know, therapy? You're probably gonna hate it worse than I do.
Sonny: Sounds like you're into this pi thing full-time now, huh?
Paul: Well, sort of. I mean, dad's a terrific teacher. He's always telling me that I'm doing great, but I'm just not sure I have what it takes.
Sonny: Why not? 'Cause of the risks?
Paul: No. I mean, things can get dangerous sometimes, but I'm-- I'm okay with that. It's--it's the other times. You have to do things that wind up hurting people.
Sonny: And that gets to you?
Paul: Yeah. On a "who am I" kind of level. I mean, dad says that, you know, I'll work through it, but I feel like in the long run, it's gonna hurt my relationships with other people. I mean, not that I'm in any other kind of relationship.
Sonny: Yeah. Well, if you're smart, I would keep it that way. 'Cause if you get involved and put yourself out there, I mean, you're just gonna wind up getting hurt.
Gabi: [Crying] I'm just--I'm gonna miss you. A lot.
Eduardo: I'm gonna miss you too. You--you'll post lots of pictures of Ari, right?
Eduardo: I don't want to miss a thing that she does, okay?
Gabi: I will.
Eduardo: Not a one.
Gabi: Yeah. [Sniffles]
Rafe: So that's how you're gonna stay in touch with us? Social media?
Eduardo: I--you know, man, I-- it may be dangerous to be in direct contact. You know, I'm not sure what's gonna happen I-- I'll do what I can do.
Rafe: Yeah, okay. I mean, obviously, this is your call. I'm with Gabi though, I... it feels like you just got back. If there's anything that I can do to help you find these people or deal with them, you just let me know.
Eduardo: I will. [Sighs] You know, whoever is wanting to get even right now is probably somebody that I did something really bad to.
Adriana: I can't do this.
Adriana: I'm sorry.
Eduardo: Excuse me, excuse me.
Gabi: What's wrong with you? Our father is leaving. You might not see him again, and you're just standing there?
Dario: You want me to-- you want me to say something? Okay, I'm gonna say something. I'm glad. I am relieved. You were attacked because of what he is. That is what's going on here.
Gabi: Dario, we've all made mistakes. He has his past and we have ours. And I have paid for mine. I did time in prison for mine, and guess what? My family stuck by me. And this? This is wrong. We need to be doing the same to our dad.
Dario: Let me tell you something. He's doing the right thing.
Dario: Maybe for the first time in his life. I got to take this.
Gabi: Of course you do. Go. What is--why is he saying things like this?
Rafe: Sis--come on. You know him. You know Dario, right? He's selfish, not to mention pig-headed.
Gabi: No, it just feels like something's wrong with him.
Dario: What do you want?
Dario: I told you to get the hell out of Salem and never come back. What the hell do you think you're doing?
Steve: Where's this coming from, Joe? Your mom said couples' therapy was your idea.
Joey: [Scoffs] Yeah, that was before talking to Dr. Evans started screwing everything up.
Steve: Like what?
Joey: Like what I got going with jade. I love her, dad. And Dr. Evans keeps putting all this stuff in my head about like how I shouldn't be with her.
Steve: Hm. Well, listen, I think therapy is just a way of looking for answers. If you find some, great. But no matter what, your mom and I are always here for you.
Joey: I know.
Steve: Okay? And it's your life. If you don't want some psychiatrist to tell you how to live it, you got to be true to yourself. In the end, it's up to you.
Joey: Right. Thanks. I-I better go find jade.
Joey: Good luck with... you know.
[Cell phone chimes]
Rafe: You just got to try and deal, sis. Dario is not the forgiving type. Ever since the day dad came back, he's been--
Gabi: He's been rude, and nasty, and very disrespectful and ungrateful.
Rafe: Well, yeah. But I didn't exactly welcome dad back with open arms either. Well, it's true. I mean, the man was gone for two decades and he walked back into our lives like everything was gonna be fine.
Gabi: Okay, I get that, Rafe. But you saw that he was trying to make amends, and you came around, and--
Rafe: Well, yeah, I did because I can see that the man is sincere. And the reason he's leaving now is basically out of love, to protect us, to keep us all safe.
Gabi: Yes, I know, I just... I understand that we have to accept that, but... I don't...just... Dario, the way he's been acting.
Rafe: He's glad.
Gabi: Yeah. He's just--I don't know. He's been acting so weird and I feel like there's something going on that we don't know about.
What can I say, man? I need cash.
Dario: You're not gonna get another dime from me, especially after what you did. You went after my sister instead of my brother. Are you crazy? And now, you're hitting me up for more cash? I told you to get the hell out of town.
I didn't see any point in that right now, dude. Not when you made it so clear you didn't want your family to know what you did. I figured, there's more money for me here in Salem.
Paul: I don't think I ever thought I'd hear you say something like that, Sonny. Look...I know losing will, that tore you apart. But not all relationships have to end in that kind of pain. I mean, you and will, you guys were happy. You had it all, until I showed up and I-I--
Sonny: No, please, don't-- don't go there, don't go there. How many times do we have to talk about this? It was not your fault. Will didn't even know who you were, okay?
Sonny: And his isn't about him anyway.
Paul: All right.
Sonny: What I'm trying to say is don't set yourself up to get hurt.
Paul: And you think that's what I'm doing?
Sonny: Yeah, if you keep looking to someone to tell you who you are. And that includes family. John's a great guy, but what he wants isn't necessarily what you want. You need to do what's right for you.
Paul: Right, yeah.
Paul: It's kind of a new you, Sonny. [Laughs softly]
Sonny: A new me? Maybe I've changed a little. I'm my own man now. I'm not out to please people all the time. Right now, I am focused on knocking down these bogus kidnapping charges against my uncle Vic. And then...
Sonny: I might join the family business. But I'll do it on my own terms, nobody else's. That's what my uncle Vic did and it worked for him.
Paul: The family business? Wow, that's, uh... you definitely have changed.
Sonny: Will's dead. I'm alone. So...everything has changed.
Gabi: Dario, listen, um... we were thinking that since mom's hurting, we were gonna go back, and...
Dario: There's something I got to take care of. I--I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Gabi: Did you just see that?
Rafe: I saw.
Adriana: [Clears throat]
Gabi: Mami, Dario just left without even saying good-bye.
Eduardo: Oh, it's okay. It's okay.
Gabi: [Crying] No.
Eduardo: He and I, we got issues that go to a whole other-- hey, come on, come on, come on.
Eduardo: Come on. It's okay, it's okay. It's okay. Gonna miss you, kid. I'm gonna miss you. Hey, man, thanks for-- thanks for everything.
Eduardo: You take care of your mother and your sister, all right?
Rafe: I will.
Eduardo: And your brother too, whether he wants it or not.
Rafe: Okay. Look, you know, I got to get down to the station. I got to check in, so...
Eduardo: Hey, uh... you guys get out of here. Come on, come on. Just, uh--you know, it's gonna be okay. I love you. You both...
Gabi: I love you.
Eduardo: Hold onto that. And...try to find a way to, you know, make the best of this and I'll--I'll get back.
Rafe: Okay. I hope so.
Gabi: [Crying] Papi.
Eduardo: Oh, sweetie. It's gonna be okay. It's gonna be okay.
Gabi: I love you.
Eduardo: I love you too. It's gonna be okay.
Gabi: Okay. Okay, bye.
Eduardo: All right. Hard to believe. One more time. I got to--got to say good-bye one more time.
Adriana: I can't believe this is happening all over again. I'm gonna lose you a second time--
Eduardo: Hey, hey, hey, hey. You know, it's gonna be different this time. It's gonna be different. I'm gonna find a way to make it right. I promise. I'll get back. For good. To the family. To you. We'll be together. And we'll be safe. We'll be safe. [Sighs] [Speaking Spanish]
Adriana: [Speaking Spanish]
John: So I came by to go over a few things with doc here. We only got a couple minutes for lunch, but it looks like she's running overtime with another patient.
Kayla: Oh, well, that'll actually work out well for us because Steve's not here yet. We have decided to go to marriage counseling together, see if we can work things out.
John: Steve? Wow, that's, uh... that's great. That's gr--that is-- that's great. Well, you know, doc's the best, so good luck with that.
Kayla: Thank you.
John: You know, personally, I--I'm really missing my buddy over there at black patch, but you know, I totally get why he made the decision to leave. You know, it's really important for him to prove to you that he has changed.
Kayla: Yeah. Assuming he has.
John: What was that?
Kayla: Well, it's just that he knew that we had this session today, and he hasn't called me. He's late. He hasn't returned any of my texts. I...
Steve: Hey. I can take over.
Steve: Yeah. Damn, I'm gonna be late for Marlena.
Kayla: Why are you so afraid of therapy? Are there so many things in your past that you feel that you need to keep buried? Are you afraid of some demon jumping out at you?
Steve: Hey, sweetness, uh... [Clears throat] Something came up at work. I'm not gonna be able to make the therapy thing. I'm really sorry.
Dario: This is the last time.
Man: You think?
Dario: I know.
Man: Really? I think I'm always gonna be worth a little walking-around money, if you don't want your family to know the truth.
Dario: I'm not made of money. I won't keep doing this.
Man: Sure you will.
Gabi: Yeah, Cindy, fine, I'll be there right now. Okay, I'm on the way. Oh, my God. Help! Help! Oh, my God, somebody help me! It's the guy that... [Squealing]
Man: Shut your mouth, bitch!
Man: Man, I have had it with this stupid family.
Paul: Sonny, you're obviously still grieving. Maybe if you saw someone and talked...
Sonny: No, no, no, no. I'm--I'm... I'm okay. Thank you. I've changed a little bit, okay? People are gonna have to get used to it. Lunch was fun. We should do it again sometime. Take care.
Paul: You too.
Joey: Jade. Hey.
Joey: Hey, look, I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. What I said, Dr. Evans, she put all that stuff in my head about how I shouldn't be with you. And I shouldn't have listened to her. I love you. And I want to be with you. And I'm not gonna listen to anyone who says that that's not right because it is.
Jade: Joey, what if it isn't? Okay, what if I am a bad influence and you are just like your dad?
Joey: Then I don't care. I'm not letting you go.
Robyn: Hope this seat's not taken. I just moved here, on the lookout for new friends. My name's Robyn, by the way.
Steve: I'm sorry, darling, but I'm involved with someone.
Robyn: Yeah. Is that why you look so miserable?
Kayla: Marlena, I, uh... I think I need to cancel. Sorry. No, uh... there's no need to reschedule. I don't think it'll do any good. I think, um... I think Steve's no show kind of speaks volumes, you know. I don't think he really wants to change. Which means there's no hope. I think we're gonna have to call it quits. Come on...you can do it!
