Episode #12903 ~ Maggie worries about Tate as her surgery nears; Claire's future causes a rift between Belle & Shawn; Nicole discovers that Deimos talked a doctor into coming out of retirement to operate on Maggie; Chloe endures another nightmare about Deimos learning the truth about her baby.

Provided By Suzanne

Victor: [Clears throat]

Maggie: Seems like so long ago.

Victor: Time flies when you're having fun.

Maggie: [Laughs] Yes, it does. I didn't even know we had any wedding photos. We didn't have any flowers or music or a caterer. But it was a perfect day. When you get married at our... less-than-tender age-- [Chuckles] You're not looking forward to having babies or the promise of a long life built together.

Victor: Quality over quantity, my dear.

Maggie: This past year, losing Bo... and Daniel and our home... finding summer and then-- oh, we survived the very worst, Victor. So whether or not I can walk after this surgery today, I'm gonna be okay. I didn't even think we'd have our first dance as husband and wife with no music.

Victor: Insane to think of a groom with two left feet.

Maggie: But we found a way.

Victor: We will dance, Maggie. Always.

Maggie: [Chuckles] Yes.

Shawn: I spoke to an admissions counselor at Salem u today, and he said that if Claire defers for a year, that she won't need to reapply.

Belle: But we don't want her to defer for a year. It's not like she's gonna learn anything from this job with Chloe.

Shawn: Probably not, but you never know.

Belle: In five years she could be standing on a street corner with a guitar case, collecting nickels and dimes.

Shawn: Belle, she's talented.

Belle: Yes, she is. She still needs a plan B. I sat down with her, I tried to show her what the difference a degree would make in lifetime earnings. She seems to think she's gonna be the next Katy Perry.

Shawn: Look, after she spends enough time fetching coffee and being yelled at by Chloe because her latte isn't hot enough, I'm pretty sure she's gonna rethink it. I'm just afraid that if-- that if we push her too hard that it's gonna--

Belle: I know, I know. This is all my fault.

Shawn: What do you mean?

Belle: I never should have bought her that damn nightclub. It's like I set her up to fail.

Chloe: [Moans]

[Dramatic music]

Deimos: What is this? You are not terminating my baby. You understand that.

Chloe: It's not your baby.

Deimos: No? Then whose is it? Do you even know, you shameless slut?

[Knock at door]

Chloe: [Sighs, clears throat]

[Door opens]

Claire: Hey, sorry, did I wake you?

Chloe: Uh, hey, no. I should get up anyway.

Claire: I brought some bagels. I wasn't sure how you felt about lox, I know it's kind of--

Chloe: Excuse me, please.

[Door closes]

Claire: Uh, Chloe, are you okay?

Chloe: [Sobbing]

[Dramatic music]

Maggie: Victor, we'll dance regardless of whether I'm in this chair or not. We'll find a way.

Victor: Well, it's important that when you go into a surgery that you go in with an attitude that it's going to be successful.

Maggie: I am hopeful that Dr. Hochman will be my miracle worker. I just wish it all wasn't happening today, when we're all so preoccupied about Tate.

Victor: Maggie, we've done as much as we can do. Brady's in Indianapolis. I'm sure he'll contact us as soon as he gets a lead. Meantime, I'd like to be able to give him some good news about you. It'll raise his spirits.

Maggie: But you can't call him, Victor. He blames you and he blames me.

Victor: Maggie, listen, whatever involvement summer had in this whole thing has nothing to do with you.

Maggie: But I can't stop feeling guilty.

Victor: Can't you just think about yourself for once? I don't want you worrying about anything else.

[Knock at door]

Victor: Nicole?

Nicole: Hi.

Maggie: Hi.

Nicole: Uh, I hope this isn't a bad time. I heard Maggie's having surgery today.

Victor: Who told you that?

Nicole: Brady. Uh, I'm so happy for you.

Maggie: Oh, hi.

Nicole: Um, I, uh, brought you something.

[Somber music]

Maggie: [Chuckles] Thank you.

Nicole: I, uh, thought the doctors said they couldn't operate.

Maggie: That's right, um, until Deimos convinced a surgeon to help me.

Shawn: You didn't set Claire up to fail. You thought edge would be a great place for her to learn how to sing in front of a live crowd.

Belle: Yeah, and it backfired, just like you said it would. Instead of gaining confidence, she decided that I didn't have faith in her to make it on her own.

Shawn: Belle, she knows that's not true.

Belle: Maybe I should ask her if she wants to sing at the-- [Chuckles] Doing it again.

Shawn: Mm-hmm. Look, if Claire's gonna make it in the business, or she's not, then she's gonna have to be the one to feel her way through it. And we can't be the ones to just make her dream come true or to just, you know, take it away from her.

Belle: You sound so much like--

Shawn: Like Dr. Marlena Evans?

Belle: No, actually, more like Philip.

[Somber music]

Chloe: If I can't record this album because I'm pregnant--

Philip: Hey, Kelly Clarkson did it.

Chloe: She also cut her tour short because she was sick as a dog, and I'm not Kelly Clarkson.

Philip: Chloe, you're a great mom. This kid is very lucky.

Chloe: Lucky? To have a father like Deimos?

Philip: Are you gonna tell him?

Chloe: I don't know. I have to think about it.

Philip: Sure, well, just uh, whatever you need. Like I said, let me know.

Chloe: Thanks.

Claire: Sorry, I didn't realize you still weren't feeling well.

Chloe: No, it's probably just a bug or-- you know.

Claire: You're pregnant. Look--

Chloe: And just to be clear, I am not having an abortion.

Claire: Oh, oh, okay.

Chloe: And this has to stay between us.

Claire: Sure, yeah. Uh, does Philip know?

Chloe: Yeah.

Claire: And the father, right?

Chloe: Claire, I just asked you to not say anything to anyone. Am I not being clear?

Claire: Very clear. I had that dream again --

Claire: Sorry, I wasn't trying to upset you, I was just trying to--

Chloe: Claire, I appreciate your concern, but you have to understand that you're my assistant and not my BFF, so please don't be offended if I'm not wanting to share any more with you.

Claire: Right, right, of course, I'm sorry.

Chloe: No worries, it's fine.

Claire: Well, I got rid of the food, if that's-- sorry, sorry, I probably shouldn't have even, like, brought up the word.

Chloe: Just so you know, I'm gonna be meeting Philip later to discuss our plan going forward, and it might affect your employment.

Claire: Oh, wait, you're not thinking of not recording the album because you're pregnant, are you?

Chloe: [Sighs] Well, we'll see.

Claire: Why? I mean, look at Beyoncé and Carrie Underwood, and--

Chloe: Do you think I'm in their league?

Claire: Well, um... yes.

Chloe: [Laughs] Good answer. You know what? Could you run some errands for me when I'm out? There's a list right there.

Claire: Sure, sure.

Chloe: Thank you. [Sighs] I should get dressed.

[Dramatic music]

Chloe: Shawn, I didn't mean--

Shawn: No, if they're-- like, if I sound anything like Philip, please, I want you to shoot me, all right?

Belle: Oh, come on. You're both right. The more I push Claire, the further I push her away. I just don't want to lose my daughter.

Shawn: You're not gonna lose her.

Belle: Or you.

Shawn: I hope not.

Belle: Shawn--

Shawn: Belle, you know that there was a time when Philip would have done anything to be Claire's dad.

Belle: That was forever ago.

Shawn: Okay, but still. He enjoys being in her life. And yours too.

Belle: Please, can we not go there?

Shawn: I think that we should. Look, here's the thing: I know that you love me. I do, I know that. But I'm just not 100% sure how you feel about him.

Belle: How many times do I have to tell you that Philip and I are through? Don't you believe me?

Shawn: Belle, we can't even have a conversation without his name coming up.

Belle: I'm sorry.

Shawn: I don't want you to be sorry. I just want to know that he's completely out of your head for good.

Nicole: Deimos convinced the doctor?

Victor: Yes, he got this world-renowned surgeon to come out of retirement to do the operation.

Nicole: So Deimos gave you half your fortune back that he stole, and he's footing the bill for the surgery?

Maggie: He accepted responsibility for what happened to me. He said he regrets his actions. And that he wants to make amends.

Victor: Yeah, I'm still not convinced.

Maggie: I choose to believe the best in people.

Nicole: And that's what we love about you. At least I do, anyway.

Victor: I'm just wary of trusting Deimos when he almost cost us everything.

Nicole: I get that, but I really do think Deimos is doing this for the right reasons.

Victor: Or Deimos is making all these grand gestures to impress you.

Nicole: No, of course not. His trip down the Salem river shocked me into realizing that this feud was stupid and destructive.

Victor: Oh, Nicole. I hope you're not falling under his thrall. I warned you.

Nicole: Okay. [Sighs] You know, can't we just be grateful that Maggie's having this surgery, and that you and Deimos aren't trying to destroy each other, and nobody died? And you can go back to being your newly domesticated self... changed by the love of a good woman.

Victor: Yes, Maggie's love did change me. I suppose I should be thankful that someone or something caused Deimos to do the same. The roses are blooming in herbal essences

[Dramatic music]

[Cell phone rings]

Philip: Hey. Feeling any better?

Chloe: Mm. Not much.

Philip: Sorry.

Chloe: But on a bright note, I have decided what I want to do.

Philip: Yeah?

Chloe: Yeah. [Sighs] Plenty of singers have babies and keep working, so why can't I?

Philip: That's what I said. What made you change your mind?

Chloe: Hearing it from Claire.

Philip: Well...

Chloe: And if I'm gonna be this sick for nine months, then it'll give us time to work on that album and make it the best it can be.

Philip: So you're gonna keep this baby.

Chloe: Yeah, of course I am. There was no other decision for me.

Philip: What about Deimos? Did you figure out how you're gonna keep this from him? Because once he sees that you're pregnant--

Chloe: Well, I haven't figured out that one yet, but he can never know that this baby is his.

Philip: Like I said, whatever I can do.

Chloe: I appreciate that.

Philip: Uh, I have some artwork to, uh, show you if you'd wanna meet for coffee.

Chloe: Ooh, if I smell coffee or even think about it--

Philip: Sorry, uh, how about I come to you.

Chloe: I'm not very good company right now.

Philip: That's okay, I'll see you soon.

[Phone beeps]

Belle: I promise I won't bring up Philip's name ever again, if you don't.

Shawn: Oh, come on.

Belle: I want him out of my life. You have to believe that.

[Light instrumental music]

[Moaning, smooching]

Belle: What was that for?

Shawn: I'm just happy, that's all.

Belle: Me too.

[Piano music]

Deimos: [Laughs] Well, hello there.

Nicole: Hi. That was cheerful.

Deimos: Yes, I'm feeling cheerful. For a change.

Nicole: Me too. Thanks to you.

Deimos: Is that right?

Nicole: So I've made a decision if the offer's still on the table. I'm ready to come back to basic black.

Deimos: [Laughs] That's--that's great. But why stop at basic black?

Nicole: Deimos--

Deimos: You're all in, Nicole, you know you are.

[Dramatic music]

Nicole: [Sighs] My fiancé died earlier this year and you just got out of prison after 30 years, and you were engaged to Kate a few months ago. You hated me.

Deimos: I never hated you. What are you trying to say? I'm unsuitable?

Nicole: No, I'm just saying you need to slow down.

Deimos: [Sighs] You lost your fiancé a month before your wedding. That was tragic, but didn't it teach you that waiting is pointless? I mean, personally, I would love to start a family.

Nicole: Okay, Deimos. Before you start registering us for china and layettes, there's something that you need to know about me. I mean, there's a lot you need to know about me, but this one particular thing might affect the way you feel about having a future with me.

Deimos: I can't imagine anything having that kind of effect on me.

Nicole: Well, uh, you keep talking about wanting children. You need to know I-- I can't have any.

Deimos: Uh, wait--what, um-- did you mean that--

Nicole: I was shot several years ago.

Deimos: My god.

Nicole: I mean, I recovered. Obviously. But, uh-- you know, the doctor said that I-- I couldn't get pregnant. Then I did. Twice.

[Dramatic music]

Nicole: I almost carried to term, both of them. My little miracle babies. But the doctors warned me that, uh-- you know, my body couldn't take the--

Deimos: Nicole, I'm so sorry. I had no idea, I wouldn't--

Nicole: I know. I--

Deimos: It's all right. You don't have to say another word.

Nicole: Yes, I do. I was out of my mind, and I can't even begin to tell you all the crazy things that I did. And then I finally had to accept that I just, I-- I couldn't have any kids of my own. And Daniel knew, but he had parker and his daughter Melanie.

Deimos: So he didn't want any other children.

Nicole: No, it's not that. He was just okay with me. But it's different for you, you know, you have so many years to make up for. And the first thing you said is that you want children, and it's not possible for me, so if it changes the way that you feel, I understand.

Deimos: No. No, of course not.

Nicole: Deimos--

Deimos: Okay, Nicole. We do have options, right? We can adopt. We can always hire a surrogate. If we really want children, we can have them. Okay. I get it. You're the one who said it, that we should take one step at a time, right? So for now, I'm just grateful that you decided to come back to basic black. I can't imagine there could be anyone who could be so simultaneously cut throat and charming.

Nicole: [Chuckles] You could.

[Both laugh]

Deimos: So if you don't mind my asking, what changed your mind?

Nicole: What you did for Maggie. I had time to think about it. That's what changed my mind.

Hochman: Mrs. Kiriakis. Are we all ready to go?

Maggie: We sure are.

Hochman: Well, then, you have a date with the anesthesiologist.

Maggie: Mm, jealous?

Victor: You bet.

Maggie: [Laughs]

Hochman: I'll see you in recovery.

Maggie: Okay. Thank you.

Victor: Dr. Hochman, I, uh, I just wanted to say how I'm grateful that you came out of retirement to do this surgery.

Hochman: I had planned to be in Tahiti today.

Victor: Well, I hope mind is gonna be 100% here. The other doctors in the hospital said this couldn't be done. If you have the slightest doubt as to your abilities--

Hochman: The-- [Sighs] Mr. Kiriakis, I am confident in my abilities. But you understand that there are certainly risks and no guarantees.

Victor: I do. Listen, my wife is my whole world.

Hochman: I understand.

Victor: I know you probably hear that a lot, but it's true. Really true with me. My wife changed my life for the better and if it weren't-- well, I just need for this surgery to change her life, too.

Shawn:, Uh, hey, listen. I gotta get back to the station. A lab report just came in that your dad really, really needs, okay?

Belle: Okay. See you when you get home.

Shawn: Okay. [Smooches]

Both: Bye.

Philip: [Clears throat]

Belle: Philip, I, uh, I didn't see you come in.

Philip: I just got here a few minutes ago. [Sharp inhale] Things are going well for you and Shawn.

Belle: Uh, yeah. Great.

Philip: I'm glad. Listen, there's something I need to talk to you about.

Belle: Okay.

Philip: After our last conversation, uh-- I'm starting to think--

Belle: Just spit it out, Philip.

Philip: I appreciate your help in trying to get my record label off the ground.

Belle: But...

Philip: I'm starting to think your being a silent partner is a mistake. to be silent?

Philip: God help me, I do, but it seems you don't.

Belle: I've said since day one I don't know the first thing about the music business, so--

Philip: That's right. You don't. You also said on day one that I needed to give Claire a record deal, even though she wasn't ready. And now you're hassling me about her being Chloe's assistant.

Belle: I'm not hassling you.

Philip: Either you're involved or you're not. I know you're still trying to work out if you want to be a controlling mom or a totally hands-off one.

Belle: [Scoffs] Excuse me, I know exactly what kind of mother I am.

Philip: Look, I'm not saying you're not a good one.

Belle: Right, the double negative there was really convincing.

Philip: I know how much you love Claire. But she's feeling smothered--

Belle: You spend an hour a week with her, so don't pretend that you know how she feels more than I do.

Philip: You're right. And to be honest, I don't care. I just don't want to punish Claire because you're driving me nuts. Sorry if that sounds harsh.

[Jazzy music]

Belle: I will bite my tongue and be the good silent partner you want me to be.

Philip: [Sighs] We both should have known that working together would end badly.

Belle: Wait, end?

Philip: I'm gonna try to find somebody to buy you out of the label.

Deimos: You know there's still no guarantee that Maggie will ever walk again. But Dr. Hochman is the best surgeon--really the only surgeon who could do this procedure.

[Dramatic music]

Nicole: Well, regardless, if it works, I'm sure Maggie and Victor are just happy that you tried.

Deimos: Victor didn't even want to take me up on my offer. I think he finally realized that it was Maggie's only chance. I wonder how it's going. We should probably call Dr. Hochman's office soon to get an update.

Nicole: Well, I was planning on going to the hospital to be there for Maggie when she wakes up. Why don't you come with me?

Sonny: Uncle vic.

Victor: Oh, sonny, thank you for coming.

Sonny: How's Maggie?

Victor: She's still in the or, I haven't heard a thing.

Hochman: Mr. Kiriakis, we just wheeled your wife into recovery.

Victor: How is she?

Hochman: Oh, she did very well. I was able to relieve the impingement on the cervical nerves, and restabilized the vertebrate.

Victor: Was the surgery a success, yes or no?

Hochman: From my perspective, it went as well as possible. But we'll have to wait and see how much function she regains as the swelling subsides.

Victor: That's not an answer.

Hochman: Mr. Kiriakis, we've discussed this before. I'm optimistic, but only time will tell.

Victor: When can I see her?

Hochman: Very soon.

Sonny: Keep faith, uncle vic.

[Jazzy music]

Belle: What is wrong with you? First you question my parenting, and then after you begged me to help you--

Philip: I didn't beg.

Belle: You throw my investment in my face.

Philip: That's not what I'm doing.

Belle: Of course it is. This is payback, right? Because I picked Shawn and not you. You never got over it last time, and you're still--

Philip: Why do you think everything's about you? This isn't personal.

Belle: You made it personal.

Philip: I just want to keep business separate from our old baggage.

Belle: Then why sign Chloe lane? How's that for baggage?

Philip: Why are you so upset that I want to buy you out?

Belle: 'Cause it's not gonna be easy, and I don't wanna be stuck in an investment with someone who doesn't appreciate what I'm doing.

Philip: What do you mean, it's not going to be easy?

Belle: Investors tend to shy away from guys who don't know what they want or how to get it. Good luck.

Deimos: You know what we were just talking about, taking things one step at a time? I definitely don't think that Victor would welcome me-- my presence at the hospital.

Nicole: Oh, please. Victor doesn't welcome anyone's presence. But you're the one that made this surgery happen. And being there to check in with Dr. Hochman... will just show that you care.

Deimos: Why do you want me to go?

[Light instrumental music]

Nicole: Well, because I want everyone to get along, and the less stress Maggie feels, the better her recovery will be.

Deimos: Okay. I'm there.

Nicole: Thank you.

Deimos: Sure.

Nicole: [Chuckles]

[Acoustic guitar strumming]

Claire: Came out of yourself, you showed your light showed me how your bones could hold me tight oh, my veins again we'll depart in life so -- uh, sorry, sorry. I wasn't sure what you wanted me to do next.

Chloe: No, don't apologize, that song's really beautiful.

Claire: Thank you. That means a lot to me. Um, I was actually writing it for you.

Chloe: Really?

Claire: Yeah.

[Knock at door]

Chloe: Wow. Uh, sorry, that's gotta be Philip. Hi.

Philip: Brought you some ginger tea. I remember it was the only thing that helped--

Chloe: When I was pregnant with parker. It's okay. Claire knows. Come in.

Philip: Okay, then.

Chloe: Thank you for the tea.

Philip: Claire, could you give me and Chloe a few minutes alone?

Claire: Sure, yeah.

Chloe: But you can find a quiet place to keep working on that song, 'cause I really wanna hear some more.

Claire: Great. Okay, yeah, just text me when you want me to come back.

Chloe: I will. Thank you for coming by. So where's the artwork?

Philip: First, I want to discuss an idea I just had.

Chloe: About?

Philip: What to do about the baby. From the first moment you metouch

[Light instrumental music]

[Acoustic guitar strumming]

Claire: And it fell out of skies and stars you climbed right into my arms you said, hey why'd you leave me alone out here? Without you my life goes black and blue go too far and I'll be lost from you babe, please find me again if it wasn't meant to be my love would have set you free but baby I'm back again and it fell out of skies and stars you climbed right into my arms I said, hey why'd you leave me alone out here? Yeah, I come back you were out of sight my heart drowning in the night I said, hey babe don't leave me alone out here don't leave me alone out here

Chloe: What do you mean about the baby? I already told you I'm keeping the baby.

Philip: But you need Deimos to be totally convinced he's not the father. Which means someone else needs to be the father. It's the only way you'll ever get that bastard out of your life.

Chloe: Yeah, but finding pretend baby daddy volunteers isn't exactly gonna be--

[Dramatic music]

Chloe: Wait, Philip, are you saying that--

Philip: With our history, everyone would buy it.

Chloe: [Sighs] Yeah, but why would you want--

Philip: You know how much I care about you. And parker. This is your kid. I am not asking for any say in the decisions you make as a parent. [Sighs] But we're on the verge of something great here.

Chloe: Yeah, I hope so.

Philip: We are. I think this is what's best for everyone. I don't know what other choice you have, Chloe. Do you want Deimos out of your life or not?

Deimos: Would you please let Dr. Hochman know that Deimos Kiriakis would like an update?

Yes, sir. I'll tell him as soon as I see him.

Deimos: Great.

Nicole: Um, I'm gonna go check on Maggie. I'm sure Dr. Hochman is with her. She is his only patient.

Deimos: All right.

Nicole: Are you gonna come with me or not?

Victor: Hi.

Maggie: Oh, Victor.

Victor: Dr. Hochman said the surgery went beautifully. He's very hopeful that you'll regain full function.

Maggie: Thank god. And Deimos.
