Episode #12895 ~ Steve confides in Eduardo; Fynn pulls Kayla into a kiss; Jade & Joey grow closer; Adriana makes a decision about Eduardo.
Provided By Jim
Blanca: Would you like some more tea?
Adriana: Si. [Speaks Spanish] Do you realize that you are the only person in this house who would bother to offer?
Blanca: Really? What about Rafe?
Adriana: Oh, he's always working or...running to the rescue of some damsel.
Blanca: One particular damsel.
Adriana: Look. Look at how many beautiful girls are out there... who speak the language, who know the culture, and who do not have dead husbands. Girls like you.
Blanca: Okay, Adriana, let me see what's new in the world. Okay.
Adriana: And, um... why are you in such a hurry to move?
Blanca: Well, I don't know. I think I wanna move closer to the hospital.
Adriana: Not a nice area. You want to get attacked? Just take a stroll through that park of death.
Blanca: Okay. I guess that's why Rafe is always working? Yeah? [Chuckles]
Adriana: So is that why you're in such a hurry to move? We all love having you here.
Blanca: Look, Adriana, I love being here, really, and I'm very grateful for your hospitality. But for your sake, I need to move.
Steve: I didn't order that.
Eduardo: I know. It's on the house. You look like you could use it.
Kayla: Uh, no, no, just, uh, tired. Been a long day. As was yesterday and...the day before.
Fynn: I just saw your sister-in-law.
Fynn: I told her she could start taking clear liquids in the morning. Thought she might kiss me.
Fynn: Let's go somewhere where we can be alone.
Steve: I know. I guess I'd better catch up on my beauty sleep.
Eduardo: I heard about, uh, Tate Black. Any new leads on that?
Steve: None that have panned out so far.
Eduardo: Well, I'd appreciate it if you'd tell John that I reached out to some of our former colleagues.
Steve: You mean the assassins? Hey, who am I to judge? I'm sure they know how to get things done.
Eduardo: I just want John to know that I'm working that angle so if he's got something better to do, he'll just focus there.
Steve: I'll pass it along.
Eduardo: No, seriously, man. I insist.
Steve: Hey, you're not gonna stay in business very long giving away drinks to one-eyed strangers.
Eduardo: Safe bet there won't be too many of those walking in here.
Steve: [Chuckles] Hey, you know, when I heard you bought this place, I was kinda surprised. I didn't think you'd be stickin' around town.
Eduardo: Yeah, neither did I. Course, that was before Eve moved halfway across the country to get away from me.
Steve: You might be giving yourself too much credit.
Eduardo: Well, maybe. But I can't forgive myself for leaving her and Paige, so I sure as hell can't expect her to.
Steve: I hear you, man. I left my wife and kids to keep them safe... but you can never get that time back. And you never stop trying to make it up to 'em.
Eduardo: Yeah. I been lucky.
Steve: Yeah? How so?
Eduardo: Yeah, my kids are coming around. They're coming around--two out of three of them, anyway. They get that I'm genuinely grateful for the chance to finally be the decent father and husband the family deserves.
Steve: Good for you, man.
Adriana: What do you mean, you're moving out for my sake? I just said I want you to stay.
Blanca: Okay, so what happens if someone else shows on your doorstep?
Adriana: Who is gonna show up on my doorstep?
Blanco: Eduardo, maybe?
Adriana: Eduardo? No!
Blanca: Yes! Adriana, the way he looks at you is the same way Rafe looks at Hope, okay?
Adriana: That is the very last thing I want to hear.
Blanca: Oh, yeah, well, I'm sorry, but it's true. Hey, everybody can see it. And you know, we can see that you love him too. You never stopped.
Karla: Fynn, the only reason I agreed to come with you is because I didn't want to have this conversation in public, but...I thought that we were clear.
Fynn: Yeah. You chose to be with Steve and you didn't want any of this weirdness between us--I understand.
Kayla: Well, I-I'm feeling some weirdness here.
Fynn: I took you away 'cause I didn't want to discuss your medical condition in front of the nursing staff.
Kayla: What do you mean?
Fynn: Your pupils are dilated, you're sensitive to light, you're downplaying all these headaches you have. I'm very worried about you. With all the stress you've been under lately, I'd like to examine you. Ah! I'm not taking no for an answer. [Suspenseful music] you know, I won't be putting on one of those paper gowns.
Kayla: [Small laugh] Is this really necessary?
Fynn: I can't count while you're talking.
Kayla: Well, I'm alive.
Fynn: Yeah. I can certainly see that. Any dizziness?
Fynn: Lying to me is futile.
Kayla: Occasionally. But--a little dizzy, but... I, um...well, they're not as bad as they used to be.
Fynn: Why don't you just get the surgery? If this hematoma hasn't calmed itself down by now, it's highly unlikely--
Kayla: You know, I can't have my whole family sitting vigil at my bedside. They have enough to worry about.
Fynn: Well, a medical crisis would give them a lot more to fret about.
Kayla: I actively need to be involved in my son's life. I can't do that being laid up in a hospital bed.
Fynn: What, is Joey's recovery not going well?
Kayla: No, it's fine. It's just that he has no common sense.
Fynn: He's 18--what do you expect? Anyway, I'm glad he's recovering well.
Kayla: Yeah, he is. Physically, anyway.
Kayla: I've just been trying for months to get him to see a therapist, but he refuses. I mean, he's got so many issues that he needs to deal with. But he says he's an adult, and I can't force him to do that. But he's not acting like an adult.
Fynn: Well, he's far from alone on that one.
Kayla: And then he... I don't know what he sees in that girl. I mean, she practically got him killed and...
Fynn: He's obviously not thinking with his head.
Kayla: Oh, that makes me feel better.
Fynn: [Laughs] I'm sorry.
Kayla: I swear, if she hurts him again...
Jade: What if your mom comes home?
Joey: She's working the late shift. She won't be home till, like, 5:00 a.m.
Jade: But she'll be here--
Joey: Why are we talking about my mother?
Jade: Because this is her house, and she doesn't want me here.
Joey: She just has to get to know you a little better.
Jade: It's not gonna work the same way with her that it did with you.
Joey: I really don't care.
Jade: Well, don't say that to her...okay? She already thinks I'm a bad influence on [Funny voice] her baby boy.
Joey: Because you are.
Steve: [Sighs] Damn it.
Steve: Oh...another dead end. Every hour that goes by without finding that kid... I shouldn't even be here. What am I doing?
Eduardo: Well, spinnin' your wheels and going without sleep ain't gonna get it. Where should you be?
Steve: I wanna be home with my wife...
Eduardo: So why aren't ya?
Steve: Same reason you're not, maybe.
Eduardo: Yeah, but I will be, and soon.
Steve: So what's your secret?
Eduardo: As a wise man once told me..."Nunca te rindas, hermano."
Steve: Never give up.
Eduardo: Ah-ee. [Mellow music]
Joey: Let's go to my room.
Jade: [exhales] Why?
Jade: Well, what if we fall asleep after?
Joey: Wow. That's not something I was worried about.
Jade: [Laughs] I don't want you to have to sneak me out in the morning.
Joey: I don't care!
Jade: Will you stop saying that? I don't want your mom to hate me more than she already does.
Joey: No offense, but I don't think that's possible.
Jade: What? You said she just has to get to know me better and then...she'd be crazy about me.
Joey: I never said that.
Jade: Well, you said the first part--I just filled the rest in. And now you're saying that she couldn't hate me more than she already does?
Joey: I was just joking.
Jade: The hell you were.
Joey: What, are you mad?
Jade: It hurt my feelings, Joey...okay? I-I-- I don't like thinking anyone hates me. Much less the mother of the guy that I'm...into. I mean, I know she's not like president of my fan club or anything, but to think she actually couldn't hate me more...hurts.
Joey: Jade, listen to me, please. Come here. My mom doesn't hate you. She doesn't think you're a bad person.
She just thinks I'm a bad influence on her precious baby boy.
Joey: She wouldn't like any girl I was hooking up with.
Jade: No? Not even if she was filthy rich and successful and graduated from some Ivy League school.an awesome family with, like, a...a hotshot lawyer dad and like a brain surgeon mom or something like that?
Joey: [Laughs] Well, I think the real question is...would someone like that wanna be my girlfriend?
Jade: Okay, you have a point. Thank you.
Joey: Besides, I like you just the way you are.
Jade: I'm glad. And I know I'm perfect for you, Joey Johnson, with all my many faults.
Joey: That's true.
Joey: And in case you haven't noticed, I have a few faults myself.
Jade: No, you don't. You're perfect! [Giggles]
Joey: I think my mom's really gonna like you when she gets to know you...what a good person you are.
Jade: You really think that? Shut up!
Joey: And I especially like kissing you.
Jade: [Giggles] I like kissing you too. Among other things.
Kayla: Can you believe that Joey actually wanted me to let Jade move in with us? I mean, really, I-I mean, I'm not a person who...who would normally toss a homeless girl out on the street. But doesn't she have another friend? Or maybe she could get a job and she could find herself an apartment or something.
Fynn: You don't have to justify yourself to me.
Kayla: No, I think I'm justifying it to myself because I feel so bad.
Kayla: Because I-I've taken a stand. But it doesn't even matter. I mean, Joey's home right now, and for all I know, she's there too. I just felt that if I--if I said yes, she could move in, that I was just allowing this sort of free-for-all.
Fynn: Well, given that she has no home...it beats the alternative.
Kayla: I suppose. And I do understand what a know?
Fynn: I'm sure you understand very well. I mean, she got him to run away She hooked him up with He was involved in an armed robbery. I mean, I'm not absolving him from all of his responsibility,
Kayla: And then when she got herself involved in this hostage but no, she called my son. And then she didn't give him a heads-up about what he was walking into.
Fynn: Look, not to defend her, but you tend to put your faith in the one you love.
Kayla: Yeah, he loves her. He doesn't even know what love is. but what if it's for real?
Fynn: As you we heart is forever making the head its fool. Ever. But Kayla...stubborn. But I love that about her. I really do.
Eduardo: You're kinda stubborn yourself, aren't ya? Well, my guess is she spent a throw on your cape and fly off to your latest top-secret adventure somewhere.
Steve: Right. And I don't know how to make her believe I'm done with all that. Especially 'cause I'm not sure I believe it myself.
Eduardo: Not quite yet, huh?
Steve: Well, you know, the last time I promised her I'd stay put, I took off halfway across the world... to rescue her brother.
Eduardo: Well, she can't hold that against ya.
Steve: No. But I mean, these kinds of situations...just keep finding me.
Eduardo: Think that's because maybe you really do wanna keep some distance between yourself and your family?
Steve: No, no, I don't.
Eduardo: No? Well, then, maybe it's time you actually did something about it.
Steve: Okay. What was your brilliant solution, Obi-Wan?
Eduardo: I apologized. I groveled. I pleaded, and I promised.
Steve: I tried all that.
Eduardo: Yeah, yeah, and after all of that...failed... I did the only thing left to do that would show Adriana I really meant it.
Blanca: What? You're watching your waistline or what?
Adriana: I was just reading about this diet. Eat nothing but cabbage soup for seven days.
Adriana: Ay yi yi! Where do they come up with these crazy idea? I mean, I would like to lose a kilo or two...the sensible way.
Blanca: For Eduardo?
Adriana: [Exhales] Would you stop with that?
Blanca: What? You didn't answer my question.
Adriana: Eduardo is not moving into Rafael's house. I mean...Dario and his father [Speaking Spanish] And little Ari--she doesn't need to listen to all that fighting. Her life has been hard enough already.
Blanca: Well, maybe they'll get along if they spend more time together...no?
Adriana: Ah, you don't know my son very well. Besides, this is Rafe's home, and he's working on building a relationship with his dad. It would be harder for him to do it under the same roof.
Blanca: Yeah. Okay. In that case, have you considered moving in with Eduardo?
Adriana: Ay, Dios mio!
Steve: So you're telling me you proved to your ex that you cared by...buying a bar?
Eduardo: Yes. She knows how much I value a dollar, that there's no way possible I'm gonna walk away from the amount of cash I sunk into this place.
Steve: As opposed to walking away from your family?
Steve: Again--I'm not judging. I just don't see how that would convince her.
Eduardo: Well, I think Adriana also appreciates the fact that I got our son working here, you know? At this rate, the guy might even move out at some point in time.
Steve: Which son is that? Is that the one that doesn't like you very much?
Eduardo: Yeah, Dario. We're working on that, uh... We're working on it.
Steve: I think I met Dario. He's not here tonight, huh?
Eduardo: Nah. He's not here. Business has been pretty slow.
Steve: Yeah, I can see that. You know, uh... this place used to be a hangout of mine.
Eduardo: Oh, yeah?
Steve: Back when it was called The Cheatin' Heart. You ever hear of it?
Eduardo: Yeah, I think so, but I never hung out on this side of town too much back in the day.
Steve: Place was hopping. They had--they had pool tables in here and...the floor was covered with peanut shells. Course, the bar taps hadn't been cleaned in years. Pretty funky. I had to drag Kayla here the first time. I taught her to play pool right over there. You know, some nights, she'd be there, cheering me on when I was...hustling some poor fool. We'd end up blowing all the money on beer and the jukebox. Some nights, we danced all night long. Anyway, you... you can't afford to be giving away the good stuff, man.
Eduardo: You know, I-I got a feeling there's a reason you walked in here tonight.
Steve: What, so you could play barkeep and practice giving advice?
Eduardo: There you go. How am I doing?
Steve: Pretty good.
Steve: 'Cause you're right. I can't just talk the talk. I gotta walk the walk.
Kayla: Yes. But you better make it decaf.
Fynn: Medically, that's a wise choice. But I don't know how you're gonna get through the rest of the night on this alone. There we go. You should go home. The ward's half-empty.
Kayla: Well, at least you're not proposing to check me in. Thank you.
Fynn: If you keep pulling these late nights, I'll tell you what...
Kayla: I'll sleep in the call room.
Fynn: Do you mind if I ask you a personal question?
Kayla: That depends. [Chuckles]
Fynn: Has Steve always been the one?
Kayla: Um...no. I mean, I had other serious relationships. It was just different with him. And he was the man I chose to marry and have my kids with and, um... when I thought he was lost, I would do anything--I mean, really anything--to get him back.
Fynn: Now that he's here...
Kayla: I know it's not fair. I mean, he's done everything I've asked him to. I don't know. I think that my, um, my mind and my heart are telling me two different things.
Fynn: Yeah, I thought that time we were out in California, that, you know...
Kayla: I know. I thought that too. I mean...he brought my brother back to me, he... he saved Joey's life. He's my hero in many ways, but... I don't know, then we get back here and I just realize I can't live with the drama that he brings to my life. You know, I shouldn't be telling you all this. I'm sorry.
Fynn: No. I'm the one who asked...you know? As someone who's been doggedly single his whole life, it's hard for me to wrap my brain around that dilemma. It's just...
Kayla: In my experience, those are the guys who have been hurt way too many times.
Fynn: Don't quit your day job. I don't think you have a future in psychoanalysis. I'm the heartbreaker, believe it or not.
Kayla: And you're proud of it.
Kayla: [Laughs] Really?
Fynn: Yeah, I think I'm finally ready to settle down.
Kayla: What happened?
Fynn: I met someone.
Kayla: [Soft laugh] a hotel and, to be honest with you... I don't know if I could ever live with Eduardo again. I understand now why he had to leave...I do. I just cannot get past his other family.
Blanca: You mean his other wife?
Adriana: I don't know, Blanca, it--it's not easy to picture the man you love with another woman.
Blanca: Mm-mm. It's not.
Adriana: If it was too dangerous for Eduardo to stay with us...how could he have another child with Eve?
Blanca: Oh, maybe, I don't know...maybe he thought the agency wouldn't find him.
Adriana: Hmm. Maybe. I don't know what else Eduardo can do to prove that this time it will be different. But...I really need it to be different.
Blanca: Well, guess what. You'll never know if you don't...
Adriana: If I don't... give him another chance? Oh! [Scoffs]
Fynn: When I think about Daniel and how at long last he was ready to settle down with the woman that he loved but he never got the chance... now I do have that chance, I don't wanna screw it up. Be real with me. What scares you more-- going back to Steve or starting over?
Kayla: I-I've started over many times, it's not that--
Fynn: Yeah, but you guys have been doing this dance for months. If he could convince you that he's changed, he would have already done it.
Kayla: Fynn, I-I don't think we need to have this conversation.
Fynn: Kayla, look, I graciously bowed out because you wanted to be with Steve, and that's fine, but I don't think you're sure. I don't think you ever will be. I am. He can't make you happy. Otherwise, you'd be with him. I can give you what he never could, what he never will.
Fynn: Look, you're different from every woman I've known. And when we were driving to California to find Joey... look, yeah, I did have an ulterior motive. But you can't deny what's going on here. You can't deny what we've got.
Joey: We stayed right here and everything was just fine. You didn't fall asleep. My mom didn't show up.
Jade: Well, we lucked out. [Laughs]
Joey: Yes, I did. The day I met you. [Jade laughs]
Jade: Wow! You can be a really big cornball when you put your mind to it.
Joey: Or even when I don't.
Jade: But I like it. I like everything about you, Joey Johnson.
Joey: I feel the same way about you, Jade. You said it before, and you were right. You're perfect for me.
Jade: [Sighs] I'm so hungry, I could eat a horse, I swear. [Laughs]
Joey: Wow, that is romantic.
Jade: Aren't you hungry?
Joey: Kind of.
Jade: You know what I want?
Jade: [whispers] Ice cream.
Joey: My mom doesn't believe in having unhealthy food in the house. She's against anything that could possibly be tempting.
Jade: Well, it sucks to be her.
Joey: And the rest of us.
Jade: Well, I should... get outta here anyway.
Joey: And go where? Not to your parents'.
Jade: Oh, no. I slept over at McKenna's last night. She said I could stay there as long as I need to. I'm looking for a job.
Joey: You should be in college.
Jade: You sound like your mom.
Joey: I really hate her for not letting you stay here.
Jade: Don't say that. Okay? I mean, it pisses me off, too, that she doesn't see me as the wonderful, amazing person that I am. [Laughs] But I...I really do respect her... for how much she loves you. I wish my mom felt the same way about me.
Joey: I love you.
Jade: I love you too.
Joey: Stay here tonight. Please.
Jade: [Laughs] Okay.
[Lounge music plays]
Adriana: Hi. So...where are all your customers?
Eduardo: Uh... laughs] It's kind of a slow night.
Adriana: Yeah. Dario told me you'd been having too many of those.
Eduardo: Yeah, but tonight it's a good thing.
Eduardo: Because you're here.
Adriana: Well... I was hoping, uh, you would have a minute.
Eduardo: I do, and I'm... I'm all yours.
Adriana: I was talking to Blanca tonight, and, uh, she made me see that... Go take care of them.
Eduardo: They--they can wait a second. She made you see what?
Adriana: Eduardo, go seat your customers before they take their business somewhere else.
Adriana: I will be here, waiting.
Eduardo: I'll be right back. [tense music]
Fynn: Don't be upset with Kayla.
Steve: Oh, I'm not upset with Kayla.
Kayla: Steve, uh...what are you doing here?
Steve: I came to talk to you. But... looks like I came at a bad time.
Kayla: Steve. [Softly] Talk to you later!
Eduardo: Hey, where you going?
Adriana: Uh, I just remember I think I left the stove on.
Eduardo: Oh, well, let me call Gabi.
Adriana: She's sleeping.
Eduardo: She's sleeping at this hour?
Adriana: Yeah, Arianna had her up last night. Uh...I really have to go.
Eduardo: Adriana, you were in the middle of saying something.
Adriana: It's nothing important.
Eduardo: Yeah, well, it sounded important.
Adriana: Buenos noches, Eduardo.
Kayla: I, uh...
Kayla: I'm...I'm sorry you...walked in on that. But thank you for not...losing your temper or...assaulting my co-worker. He--he crossed the line and... I'm actually glad you walked in when you did.
Steve: So am I. I mean, at least it gave me the chance to show you that I can control my temper. Sweetness, I know you said you need time, but I came here today to talk to you because I wanted to tell you that I'm... I'm making some changes. And things really are gonna be different.
Steve: I'm leaving Black Patch.
Steve: I took a job at TBD tending bar.
Kayla: A bartender?
Steve: It's, uh, it's just part-time at first, but Eduardo, you know, he said it might pick up. Things are slow right now.
Kayla: Eduardo. The known assassin. [Scoffs]
Steve: Ex-assassin. Whose...ex-wife is taking him back, by the way.
Steve: Yeah. Baby, listen, it'll be a good job for me. I-I mean... there's no travel, there's no firearms. Only secrets I'll have to keep will belong to sloppy customers who won't even remember what they told me.
Kayla: You'll be bored out of your mind.
Steve: No, I won't. I like bars. You know that. Especially that one. Used to be The Cheatin' Heart. You know that, right? Remember all the good times we had there, baby?
Kayla: [Softly] I remember. What about Tate? You're not gonna walk away... while he's still missing, are you?
Steve: No, I'll give John all the help he needs.
Kayla: And then what next? There's always gonna be something.
Steve: Nothing. You're not hearing me. I would be a garbage collector if I had to--I'll do anything to show you what my priorities are right now. The only excitement I want in my life is with you and our kids. I'm telling you, that's the truth.
Kayla: I think you want to believe that. You want to think that, but... reties? How long did that last? One day or something like that?
Steve: I think I'll be better at peddlin' beer--something I actually consume.
Kayla: Don't put yourself in a box because you think it's what I want. You will be miserable... and I will be too.
Steve: I'm miserable without you, sweetness. You gotta let me try. Please.
Kayla: [Whispers] Steve...
Steve: Okay. You do what you have to do. I'm gonna do what I have to.
