[Piano chord resounding]
Deimos: As you can see, the rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. So many rumors flying around town at this time. Strange, huh? Seemingly out of nowhere. For example, the wedding we allegedly had... Right before Nicole allegedly shoved me into the river to my death. [Chuckles] Now that is interesting, don't you think? Well, at least you didn't drink all my good champagne.
Kate: I only took what you promised me.
Deimos: [Laughs] How euphemistically put. What? I don't even get a "Welcome back from the dead, Deimos"?
Kate: No, of course, you do. I was in shock. But I'm thrilled you're back. I am just so happy you're okay.
Chad: André. I'm glad you're here.
André: Are you? You seem to be having a rather difficult time trying to figure out how you feel about me lately.
Chad: I know. I'm sorry. I've been, um... I've been a mess lately, André.
André: Yes, looking... to blame someone. Understandable. Well, almost.
Chad: I was wrong to accuse you. Without proof.
André: Yes, as I said, understandable. But it's also difficult. You think you can count on someone, and then they abandon you. I know how much you loved Abigail.
Chad: I do. And I'm lost without her.
André: Oh, you have to get over that. She may never return. You have a child that depends on you.
Chad: Can we sit down? I'd like to know more, um, more-- I'd like to know what she was like when you saw her. When she gave you the letter.
André: Well, as I said, she was scared. Fragile. Or maybe that's what I brought out of her. But that seemed to fade as we continued to talk. I could see some sort of resolve in her eyes. It's as if she was discovering her strength. You know what I mean?
Chad: I'd like to... I'd like to not believe that.
André: Yes, I know that's difficult. Difficult when you've lost someone, someone that you wanted to be close to. Someone that you want to depend on.
Chad: Why do I get the feeling that, uh, you're not talking about Abby?
André: Well, who could I be talking about?
Chad: You think I betrayed you. Don't you?
André: [Laughs] I feel like the world betrayed me, but then you learn to get over it. But let me ask you something. Why did you ask me here? Is this some sort of ruse to seduce me into giving you more information? Perhaps you still believe I know where Abigail is? Or even worse, maybe that she's being hidden somewhere.
Chad: No. No, I've given all that up.
André: And how did you come to that conclusion?
Chad: You're not smart enough to trick her.
André: [Laughs] Oh, isn't that splendid? Being insulted and relieved at the same time.
Chad: I, um... I want you to help me find her. If you do, I'll give you anything you want.
Chad: Name your price.
André: Even your brotherly love?
Chad: Yes. Can I count on you?
Jennifer: Hey, there.
Ciara: Aunt Jennifer, hi.
Jennifer: Hi. What're you doing here all alone?
Ciara: Uh, I was just checking out classes at Salem U for the fall.
Jennifer: Oh, that's great, that's exciting.
Ciara: Yeah. How are you holding up? You must be pretty freaked out about Abigail.
Jennifer: Yeah. Honey... I could really use your help.
Ciara: What can I do?
Jennifer: I want you to talk to me about Chad. How he's doing. Has he said anything about Abigail's disappearance?
Ciara: Um, not much. I know that he's really torn up. And that he's doing everything he can to find her.
Jennifer: Like what?
Ciara: Well, he hasn't shared many details with me, but I think he hired some private investigator and--
Jennifer: I don't want to waste time here. JJ and I really believe that he is hiding something. And I get it. He is afraid that JJ is gonna have his sister locked away again once she's found because of the fire, but trust me--he is doing the wrong thing.
Ciara: Chad's not hiding her, Aunt Jen. He is torn up about this. He's a mess without her.
Jennifer: Honey, I have seen him, and I have talked to him. And he is defensive and cynical, which makes me believe that he is hiding something.
Ciara: If he knew where she was and was lying about it, I'd be able to tell.
Jennifer: Why? How do you know that? What makes you say that?
Ciara: Well, I've gotten to know him pretty well over the past couple of months. Better than you think. And I see how freaked out he is and how he...
Jennifer: How what?
Ciara: How fragile this has made him. He's really freaked out, okay?
Jennifer: You know what? I know that, I know he's freaked out. I know how much he loves my daughter. But I also think he loves her enough to hide her and protect her. And he thinks that he is the only one doing the right thing.
Ciara: No, that is not true. You're wrong.
Jennifer: Honey, I'm not trying to fight with you. I'm not trying to upset you. Please.
Ciara: Look, I get that you're just as scared as he is, and maybe even more. But everyone is so quick to judge Chad and to condemn him because he's a DiMera. You don't even know the man that he's become.
Jennifer: And you do? Just how close have the two of you become since you've been living there?
André: I'm glad that you changed your mind about me, Chad. And I'm also touched that you want me to help you find her. And as I said before, I do have my finger on the pulse in the shadowed world. Who knows, maybe they've seen something, heard something, who knows where she's gone. [Sighs] But let me ask you something.
André: Are you willing to accept whatever information I may find out, even though it may not be to your liking?
Chad: What are you trying to say? Like, something bad could've happened to her?
André: Well, that's a possibility, I mean... she's out there on her own. You know how this world can be so dangerous.
Chad: Okay, well, I'd like to not think that, but if somebody hurts her, then I'll hurt them worse than they could ever imagine.
André: Well, I don't doubt you will. But still, you've got to be prepared.
Chad: I'd like to stay positive. So... will you just find out whatever you can?
André: Yes, so, you mean that I can have whatever it is I want? I mean, I like this generous side of you. It's heartwarming. I mean, talking about aside from that property, correct?
Chad: Yes. If you bring my wife back to me, you can have everything I have. I swear.
André: You really do love her, don't you?
Chad: Yes. I'd give my life for hers any day.
André: Oh, well let's hope that never comes to fruition. Okay. Let's see here. Thank you.
Chad: But, um, André... can I trust you?
André: Well... let's put it this way. As much as I can trust you, brother.
Chad: He's leaving now. Follow him. I want to know everywhere he goes and everything he does.
Stefano: Well, if you think that you can trust André... then maybe you are the one who is mad.
Chad: Maybe you're right. Maybe I am delusional. I am the one talking to dead people, after all.
Stefano: But you know that I am just a voice in your head. [Laughs] The voice of reason.
Chad: That'd be a first.
Stefano: Yeah. Abigail's gone and doesn't want to come back. And you are playing with fire.
Chad: She needs me to protect her, Dad. If they find her before I do, then they're gonna send her to a state facility. If they do that, I'll never be able to live with myself.
Stefano: So you trust your crazy brother to help you, is that the idea?
Chad: Absolutely not. I still think that he knows where she is or is hiding her. I'm just waiting for him to let his guard down.
Stefano: And maybe he's simply letting you believe that you've accomplished that.
Chad: Well, either way, he'll tip his hand eventually.
Stefano: How do you know?
Chad: I'm smarter than him.
Stefano: [Laughs] You're certainly more stubborn.
Chad: Yeah, what is that supposed to mean?
Stefano: What kind of mother do you think she'll be if you do get her back and hide her away?
Chad: She's gonna be a fantastic mother. Once she feels better.
Stefano: What if she never gets better?
Ciara: I'm not really sure I know what you're asking me.
Jennifer: It just seems like you're developing feelings for Chad since you've been living in that mansion, and you're with him all the time.
Ciara: Well, I don't live in the mansion, I live in the guest house. And I'm not even around him that much, because I spend most of my time with Thomas.
Jennifer: But you're speaking like you know him better than anybody.
Ciara: That's not what I meant to imply, okay? I'm just saying that you shouldn't suspect him of keeping stuff about Abigail from you.
Jennifer: But are you saying that because you're trying to protect him?
Ciara: No! And I don't appreciate how you're accusing him.
Jennifer: I am trying to find my daughter!
Ciara: So is he!
Jennifer: Honey, I'm not trying to fight with you. I am not trying to make you the enemy.
Ciara: But you see him as one.
Jennifer: I just want my little girl back home!
Ciara: And maybe if you trusted Chad a little bit more, you'd see that that's all he wants, too.
Kate: You don't know how horrified I was. How did you survive? Where have you been? Why didn't you tell us you were still alive?
Deimos: I had my reasons.
Kate: Which are?
Deimos: None of your business.
Kate: None of my business? Do you know how devastating it was for me to watch you fall in that river?
Deimos: Don't you mean when you pushed me into that river?
Kate: Surely you must know that was an accident.
Deimos: I don't believe in accidents.
Kate: I may have been impulsive in lashing out, but after all, I had just watched you declare your love for another woman. But... why would I try to kill you? What would that have done for me?
Deimos: Oh, I don't know, giving you this house. My money.
Kate: Victor's money.
Deimos: [Laughs] That's funny. I didn't see you giving any of it back to him. And from what I can tell, you've made yourself quite at home.
Kate: If you were in my place, you would have done exactly the same thing.
Deimos: Hmm. Forged a marriage license, announcing to the world that you and I are married. Maybe.
Kate: Definitely! And I think you should admire me for it. A woman after your own heart.
Deimos: Perhaps at one time. Not anymore.
Kate: I looked for you. Everyone looked for you. They sent out divers, they searched the riverbanks--
Deimos: Oh, that is so touching.
Kate: I was heartbroken.
Deimos: Heartbroken? So heartbroken that you dug inside of my coat pocket, took the ring meant for Helena that I offered to Nicole, and slipped it on your own finger?
Kate: This ring should have been mine! We were going to Vegas, remember that? We were getting married, remember that?
Deimos: Right! And that's one mistake we avoided. Which reminds me... Time to get rid of this piece of garbage.
Kate: No! Don't.
Chad: Check. Hey, everything, uh...okay? I thought you left for the night?
Ciara: Um, yeah. So, um, Jennifer thinks that you're hiding Abigail and that you're lying about it.
Chad: Yeah, I know. Let me guess, she thinks you're in on it, too.
Ciara: More or less. I told her that you were just as panicked as she was.
Chad: I bet she bought that.
Ciara: She just seemed so scared. I felt really bad for her.
Chad: What, you don't think I do? I don't have time to worry about her. She's gonna deal with this however the hell she's gonna deal with it. I need to stay focused on finding Abby before she gets hurt.
Ciara: Did you talk to André?
Chad: [Chuckles] Yeah, we're best buds.
Ciara: Do you think he knows where she is?
Chad: I'm having my doubts. I don't know, I... I'm paranoid. I feel like there's nobody else I can trust right now. I don't know, maybe that's my own fear talking.
Ciara: Hmm. This lack of trust... does that include me?
Chad: No. No, I feel like you're the only one I can trust right now.
Ciara: Good. Count on it.
Chad: Just sometimes, I...
Ciara: What? Come on, tell me.
Chad: Sometimes I see my father. He comes to me. It's like I'm having a conversation in my head and he shows me another way of doing things.
Ciara: Hmm. I used to do that with my dad. All those years he was missing. Man, I used to think that he'd come up and give me some advice and help me through whatever I was going through.
Chad: Which makes sense, because you loved your father. I hated mine half the time.
Ciara: I don't think you completely hated your father. I think maybe you hated what he represented, but he was still your dad.
Chad: Right, for going along with this psychology thing, you're pretty good at it.
Ciara: Well, you're not that hard to figure out.
Chad: [Chuckles] I guess not.
Ciara: So what advice did he give you this time?
Chad: He told me that Abby might never get better. And that I could be putting Thomas at risk by trying to find her and bring her home.
Ciara: Do you believe that?
Chad: No. I don't... I don't want to, but I don't know. What do you think?
Ciara: You're probably not gonna want to hear it.
Chad: That bad, huh?
Ciara: Yeah. I think Abby ran away because she was scared. She was scared that she might not get better for a long time. And that it won't be fair to put you and Thomas through that.
Chad: Okay, what, so it makes sense for her to be out there on her own with--with no help or no resources?
Ciara: No, no, that's not what I'm saying, okay? I was just saying that... in a lot of ways, this is a no-win situation. a for when I find Abby and bring her home. There's this doctor that my father used to use. A psychiatrist. He is very good at what he does and he's willing to break the rules or the laws or whatever he has to do. For the right price, he will do whatever is necessary, no questions asked. So... so I'm gonna build a room down in the tunnel. Somewhere safe, somewhere that is comfortable, where no one will be able to find Abby. I'll be able to keep her safe.
Ciara: It kind of sounds like you're gonna keep her prisoner.
Chad: No, I'm gonna be keeping her safe. She's gonna be able to see Thomas whenever she wants; she will have unlimited use of doctors. It's not ideal, but it's the only thing I can-- it's the only thing I can think of to keep her hidden.
Ciara: Okay. Well, you just got to find her.
Ciara: It just--it kind of seems like she doesn't want to be found. I know that you don't want to hear this, but maybe it wasn't just fear that made her run away.
Chad: Okay, so what? So, what, you're saying that she--she ran away from me? She stopped loving me? What are you saying?
Ciara: I'm just saying--okay, if you take away the possibility that André has her, then there's really no option. There's no explanation of why she ran away and why she wrote you that letter.
Chad: Yeah, I know, that's why none of it makes any sense.
Ciara: I think she just needs time to think it through. And to pull herself together. she's ready. You're already doing everything. You're watching André, you have people out there looking for her. There's nothing else you can do, is there?
Chad: No. That's the worst part of it all. I don't know what to do.
Kate: No reason to be hasty. To ruin a good thing.
Deimos: Only you would call a fake marriage a good thing.
Kate: It doesn't have to be a fake thing. We can make it real.
Deimos: Mm-hmm. But there would never be anything real about it. Because I don't love you.
Kate: You never did. So... when you look at it that way, nothing would really change. But we could still be the power couple that you talked about.
Deimos: Thanks, but I already have enough power.
Kate: You can never have enough power.
Deimos: Mm. Or money. Right?
Kate: Now, money is the one thing that I've learned to count on. And I want to swim in it.
Deimos: [Chuckles] Wow. Quite the aspiration. But you're gonna have to do it the heat of battle, did that get to you?
Deimos: That was part of it, yeah.
Kate: What's the rest of it?
Deimos: It doesn't matter. Because the answer is no.
Kate: Are you hesitating because of Nicole? The woman who berated you? The woman who threw your ring back in your face, the ring that you meant for Helena? I mean, I know that Nicole looks like your lost love, but she is a poor, poor substitution. How are you ever going to trust her? How are you ever gonna know whether she's being sincere or if she's faking it? Because believe me, she has faked a lot. She's faked everything. Even marrying my son for a ton of money. Yeah. You and I both know that the only reason she got involved with you is because of Victor's plan to take you down. So say you manage to persuade her into your bed. Aren't you always gonna wonder if it's really all part of some elaborate con? She'll smile at you with those big eyes, she'll whisper that she loves you. She'll stab you in the back. With me, you know what you get. There's no subterfuge. Everything's on the table. In it to win it. To benefit each other, a marriage for both of us. It's mutual. So what do you say? Are you willing to let Nicole shred you? Or do you want to go to Vegas as we originally planned and make it legal?
Deimos: How soon can you pack? d that you've seen reason. You're not going to regret it.
Kate: Well, you can always lock your door. I assume we're going to have separate bedrooms.
Deimos: Well, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to insist on it.
Kate: Yeah, well, that's fine. The guest rooms are beautiful here and I'm sure I'll come up with a lot of productive things, ways to spend my nights.
Deimos: Planning our world domination, no doubt.
Kate: We're gonna be a great team. Together, there's nothing that we can't accomplish.
Deimos: Right. And who knows? Life is full of surprises. There may be some nights that I forget to lock my door.
Kate: I should dig up our suitcases.
Deimos: Let's do that. The future Mrs. Kiriakis.
Jennifer: Roman's been working overtime on the search, and they've branched out into the tri-states, but I feel like every single day that Abigail's gone, it gives her more time and distance to travel.
Caroline: Darling, do you think that this maniac, Ben Weston has something to do with this?
Jennifer: No. No, JJ checked. He is behind bars.
Caroline: Oh. Look, Abigail, she has been through so much. If I'd gone through what she's gone through, I'd want to disappear.
Jennifer: Caroline, please.
Caroline: Oh, I'm sorry, that wasn't right, I just... sorry. Maybe Abigail knows what she's doing?
Jennifer: Caroline, I so want to believe that, I do.
Caroline: I know. There's nothing in her letter that says to me that she's confused or irrational. In fact, she had a pretty good plan. And, well, darling, she wasn't getting any better in that place.
Jennifer: No, she wasn't, that's true. But I don't I just... I feel like I would give everything I have just to know that she's okay and that she's good.
Caroline: Of course you would, yes. But you don't--you know, you have to keep your faith. And I know God is watching over her. He is and He will probably lead her back home when she's ready.
Jennifer: But what if she never is?
Caroline: Don't, don't say that. Come on, let's pray, and don't you ever lose faith. Hmm?
Ciara: Come on, you need to get out of here for a while. Let's go for a walk or something just to clear your mind.
Chad: Hey, you think I'm gonna be any better off out there?
Ciara: We can play chess. Maybe that'll take your mind off things.
Chad: Look, I appreciate what you're trying to do, but it's--there's no point. There's only one thing I can think about right now, and that's not gonna change. So why don't you just go check on Thomas and then get some rest.
Ciara: I'm not tired. Come on, I'm pretty wired, actually.
Chad: Well, then go for a walk. I'm sorry, that was harsh. It wasn't supposed to be.
Ciara: It's okay. I understand.
Chad: Okay. Fine, you want to go for a walk? I could use some fresh air. We can... well, you want to go get some ice cream?
Chad: Okay, Thomas is sleeping, so we can just grab the carrier and go.
Ciara: Okay, cool. I mean, I'm down if you're down.
Chad: Yeah, yeah. Let's go.
Kate: And that's the first flight to McCarran? Perfect. Yes, okay, thank you. Thank you for everything.
Deimos: And who was that?
Kate: That was my assistant. Why aren't you dressed? And where is your suitcase? We have a 10:00 flight.
Deimos: Well, then you better get going.
Kate: I better get going? What about you?
Deimos: I thought I'd turn in early for the evening. I've got a very big day tomorrow.
Kate: A busy day putting a ring on my finger and saying, "I do."
Deimos: But I don't.
Kate: You don't what? What're you talking about?
Deimos: I wouldn't marry you if my life depended on it.
Kate: Don't joke with me.
Deimos: Does this look like I'm joking?
Kate: You told me--
Deimos: I lied. Just like you lied when you told the police that Nicole pushed me in the river.
Kate: So that's what this is about? An eye for an eye?
Deimos: It was a quick and easy way to get you the hell out of my house. You're all packed. Now all you have to do is walk out the door.
Kate: Don't be ridiculous. You need me. We need each other, I thought I made that clear.
Deimos: The only thing I'm clear about is that you and I are over. I never should have encouraged anything with you in the first place. Especially after--
Kate: Oh, after you saw the reincarnation of Helena? You are such a fool. Such a fool if you go after her.
Deimos: Well, I'd rather be a fool than a man that spends his entire life punishing the world for disappointing him. And I sure as hell wouldn't spend another second with a woman who thinks nothing about destroying another person's life to save and benefit her own.
Kate: [Laughs] Are you kidding me? Are you the Pope all of a sudden? You would cut down an opponent in the blink of an eye if you thought it was to your advantage.
Deimos: Yeah, but you see the difference, Kate, is that I choose my opponents wisely. You go after Nicole, you go after me. You try that again, and I will shred every little pretty body part of yours all at once. Now get the hell out of my house before I get tired of being lenient.
Kate: You're not gonna kick me out.
Deimos: You don't have a choice, Kate! Don't you get it? Do you really want to test me? I still have to go to the police and tell them what happened that night on the riverbank. I could simply tell them it was all an accident, or I can just as easily point the finger at you. Now, between mine and Nicole's testimony, they shouldn't have any problem whatsoever sending you away for attempted murder for life. Or at least 20 to 30 years.
Kate: You just made the biggest mistake of your life.
Deimos: No, the biggest mistake of my life would've been marrying you! Have a good life. [Door slamming]
Ciara: So he's sound asleep. He's not even gonna know that we're taking him for a walk.
Chad: Um... you know what? I'm, uh--I don't want to go anymore. I got to be here in case somebody calls.
Ciara: What? You're gonna have your cell. They'll call you.
Chad: No. No.
Ciara: You're gonna drive yourself crazy waiting for someone to call you.
Chad: You know what? I am so sick of hearing that. I'm so sick of people second-guessing me. And looking for psychological reasons as to why this is happening. There are no reasons. There is no guessing it. Nobody knows what is happening. Nobody knows what is gonna happen. But I'll tell you what, I know damn sure that if and when it does... I'm not gonna be out eating ice cream like a child. I am gonna be here, in my home, waiting for my wife.
Ciara: You're right. I'm sorry. I was being selfish.
Chad: Look, Ciara... Ciara, wait. Look, Ciara! [Sighs]
André: A small charter plane went down in the Gulf of Mexico over the weekend, claiming the lives of the crew and passengers alike. Hmm...
Kate: Hey, it's me. I need to see you first thing in the morning. Laying out a plan to settle a score.
André: I'm going to need your help on something, but it's got to be fool-proof. No one can question its authenticity, understood? Now, I'm gonna send you an email with all the details, but it's got to be done as quickly as possible. Uh-huh. And, as always, discretion is paramount, understood? [Chuckles] That's excellent. Okay, we'll talk soon. Bye. [Sighs] Oh. That young. Oh, it's so tragic. Oh. So young. So sad. Hmm. [Sighs]
[Classical music on radio increasing in volume]
Chad: You, um, left before I could apologize.
Ciara: There's nothing to apologize for. I was asking you to do something stupid and inconsequential and you weren't ready for that. No big deal.
Chad: No, it, um... It's a big deal. You've been nothing but supportive to me. And how do I repay you? By blowing up and being an ass.
Ciara: Chad, it's okay. I'm serious.
Chad: Good. 'Cause I would really hate to scare you off. And lose our friendship. You're the sanity in that house right now. If I lose you, then this little guy is gonna have a pretty tough go of it. 'Cause I don't think I can handle being alone with him.
Ciara: You're not gonna lose me. I'm not gonna let that happen. I promise.
