Joey: Guys, I didn't have open-heart surgery. You don't have to stay with me all night.
Kayla: Come on, Mr. Smart-alec, you had a serious surgical procedure in LA, and now you're here and you need to recover.
Joey: So, I'm not Superman. Bullets don't bounce off me like rubber balls.
Steve: Don't worry. You'll build up a tolerance.
Kayla: Oh, funny. Can I get you anything? Are you hungry?
Joey: No, thanks. I'm good. You know, I have to admit I'm glad I get to go home tomorrow, but part of me is gonna miss living on the lam, not knowing what's coming next.
Kayla: Oh, like being arrested or kidnapped, or being shot...yeah, it's a regular roller coaster.
Joey: I know this was hard on you guys, and for that, I'm really sorry. I really am. But... it all turned out okay in the end, right? Hey, you and I made a pretty good team out there, didn't we?
Victor: How was your meeting?
Maggie: Comforting. It's nice to be around people who actually listen to how I feel.
Victor: Listen, I'm sorry for the way I went off on you and Brady earlier. My only explanation is that I just love you so damn much that any time you hurt, I feel the pain as well. I'll give you some space.
Maggie: No. Wait--don't go.
Summer: [Sighs] $100,000. [Suspenseful music] [Knocking at door]
Theresa: [Laughing] Yeah!
Brady: Hey, hi.
Theresa: Hey, hi.
Brady: Sorry I'm late. Hello, big guy.
Theresa: That's okay.
Brady: The meeting went longer than I thought it would.
Theresa: Yeah, all afternoon. Is everything okay?
Brady: Yeah. It was more of a clash of personalities more than anything, but by the time it was over, we were on the same page.
Theresa: That's good to hear.
Brady: Hey, Theresa, I want to go back and talk about that argument you had with Victor.
Theresa: Oh, gosh, did you remember to put a rush on that shipment that we were supposed to send to Los Angeles today?
Brady: Yeah. Yeah, of course I did, but let's not evade the question, okay? I want to know what happened with Victor.
Theresa: It was my fault, really. I stayed up all night to finish the rest of the designs for the DJ Wear launch,
Theresa: And by the time I took Tate for his walk this morning, Brady, I was so exhausted, and I just collapsed on the bench, and... Well, I just closed my eyes for a few seconds, and the next thing I know, Victor was waking me up, and he was all in my face because apparently I fell asleep while I was supposed to be watching Tate. [Cooing to Tate] Yeah, sleeping bunny! [whispering] [Knocking at door]
Dario: Summer, it's me. Open up.
Summer: What are you doing here? I said I'd meet you at the club.
Dario: I thought I'd pick you up. You're on the way. What's going on? Why won't you let me in?
Summer: Just give me ten minutes. I'll meet you there.
Dario: Tell me what's wrong.
Summer: I'll explain later. Go, now. [Suspenseful music]
Brady: Theresa, how could you let yourself fall asleep like that? I mean, do you understand that he could've wandered off? Somebody could've taken him. I mean, God forbid--
Theresa: It was only for a second, Brady. Okay? I swear. And you know what? If he got hurt, or if someone tried to kidnap him, he would've screamed his little head off, and I would've surely woken up, and-- Brady, I would give my life for Tate. You know that. I mean, come on. Victor's making it sound like I was Rip Van Winkle, the way he was tearing into me.
Brady: Theresa, in his defense, I mean, he did stumble upon a pretty dangerous situation there.
Theresa: Yeah, you're right. I know. I know. And Victor's right too. But not about everything, okay? He said I am an unfit mother, and I am not. Look, nothing is more important to me than our son.
Brady: I know. I know that. And deep inside that crusty old man, he knows it too. But if you were that exhausted, you should've known better than to take our son out.
Theresa: It's just hard sometimes, Brady. I've been working a lot lately, and--I don't know. I haven't spent much time with him, and I just-- I miss him.
Brady: It's okay. That's gonna change once the company is rolling, and... it'll be fine. Besides, he's in capable hands. Emma is terrific with him.
Theresa: Yeah, I know that. In the meantime, though, would it be okay if maybe the three of us planned some family time? Just the three of us?
Brady: Mm-mm. Of course. Yes. I would love that.
Theresa: Brady, nothing like this is ever gonna happen again. I promise you, okay? Please don't be mad at me.
Brady: I'm not. I'm not. Hell, I'd be a hypocrite if I was.
Theresa: What do you mean?
Brady: I haven't exactly exhibited the best judgment lately.
Theresa: What are you saying?
Brady: Summer. I was sure that she had changed, and, Theresa, she hasn't changed at all. She was a con artist and still is, and she's been using me from day one.
Maggie: Summer's my daughter. She's been so kind and generous and moved in, helped me with my physical therapy. And now it's like she's nothing more than a stranger to me. And please don't tell me "I told you so."
Victor: Never, my love.
Maggie: I've sent her several messages, but she hasn't responded.
Victor: Well, maybe it's for the best.
Maggie: Victor, as sad as all of this is, I intend to forgive her.
Victor: You can't be serious.
Maggie: Of course, I am. You have children. Over the years, they've disappointed you, angered you, and yet you've taken them back in the fold.
Victor: That's different. My children weren't criminals. I know it's difficult to accept, Maggie, but we'd be much better off without that parasite in our lives.
Dario: Oh, hey, pull my arm out of the socket, why don't you?
Summer: Keep your voice down.
Dario: What's the matter with you? Why are you acting crazy? Are you off your meds or something?
Summer: Ha-ha-ha. You're a real laugh riot. Listen to me. Someone left the satchel with $100,000 in my room.
Dario: Awesome--let's take the next plane to Barcelona.
Summer: Dario, I'm serious.
Dario: My God, you are.
Summer: And this, promising mucho more dinero if I agree to their request.
Dario: Is this for real? Who the hell would send you something like this?
Summer: I don't know, but I have my suspicions. What I do know is this person obviously has money to spare, and the resources to have me followed all over town. Look.
Dario: Summer, if this person has been tailing you this whole time...
Summer: I know. I know. They know that I killed Clark.
Dario: And that I helped you bury the body. They could be watching us right now.
Summer: And if they know the truth, I have a feeling if I don't do what they want, they just might turn me in for murder.
Theresa: They totally played you the whole time.
Brady: Yep. Summer claimed that Clark forced her to con me, but I don't believe a damn word that comes out of her mouth.
Theresa: You never should've believed her in the first place, Brady. I warned you about her.
Brady: Can we not do that-- the "I told you sos"--please?
Theresa: I'm sorry.
Brady: Thank you.
Theresa: It's just you're such a good man, Brady, and I hate watching you getting taken advantage of, and-- plus, you took her side over and over and over again, and look--I'd be lying if I said it didn't hurt a little.
Brady: I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, Theresa. And it backfired on me in spades.
Theresa: Does Maggie know?
Brady: She does now. Where are you going?
Theresa: I am gonna go find that conniving little bitch, and I'm gonna run her the hell out of town.
Steve: Listen, partner. For your mom's sake, I think we should leave the "Mission Impossible" stuff to me for now. Okay? Besides, you've got enough to deal with, don't you?
Kayla: Your dad's right. You'll be facing the judge about those vandalism charges and skipping bail. Not to mention the robbery charges in California.
Joey: Well, I'm ready to take responsibility for my actions. I'm gonna give Jade a call, see what's going on with her folks. I know she was kind of dreading it.
Steve: We'll give Joe a little privacy to do that, hm? Get some coffee?
Kayla: Be back.
Joey: I won't be long... if she even answers.
Steve: Tell her hello from us.
Steve: Hey. You're having another one of those headaches, aren't you?
Kayla: Well, it's getting better. It's just not completely gone.
Steve: Well, I'm here for you, sweetness. You know I'll do anything I can to help you.
Kayla: I know that. Thank you. Well, I should probably go find Fynn and tell him that I'm back to work.
Steve: Oh, okay. I guess I'd better get going, then. Unless you want me to come home with you.
Kayla: I'm really not ready for that. I'm sorry. aggie. But I think the best choice we can make right now is-- is to forget that Summer even existed.
Maggie: I abandoned my daughter when she was born, Victor. Maybe if I had kept my baby girl, she wouldn't have had such a hard time of it.
Victor: I'm not gonna let you blame yourself, Maggie. You were young. You were poor. You were physically not able to take care of a child.
Maggie: We found each other, Victor. And yes, when we were getting to know each other again, finally bonding, this happened.
Victor: Maggie, don't get yourself worked up about this.
Maggie: How can I not get worked up, Victor? My daughter's out there somewhere, suffering, and I share part of the responsibility for that.
Victor: What do you want me to do, Maggie? Just say the word, and it's done.
Maggie: Find her for me. Please.
Dario: Blackmail and bribery. That is a hell of a cocktail. Whoever sent this means business. Are you actually thinking about doing what they asked?
Summer: Well, obviously, the money is tempting, but no way. Look, I've seen and done things in my life I'm not proud of, but this--this is beyond reprehensible.
Dario: And you'd be serving 20 years in prison, at least.
Summer: Okay, Dario, stop it. You're scaring me.
Dario: Good. I'm glad. Now send a message to that phone number and tell them "Thanks, but no thanks."
Summer: I think they've made it quite clear that they are not gonna take "no" for an answer. Now, I hate leaving the money behind, but I think the best plan right now is for me to just disappear.
Brady: Theresa, stop, stop. Hey, stop, please. Don't ruin our family outing because you want to go wage war with Summer. It's not worth it. Please.
Theresa: You know what? You're right. I not going to let some sleazy little con artist ruin our family evening.
Brady: Thank you. Summer's probably not gonna be sticking around much longer anyway, Theresa. Maggie's disappointed and angry--
Theresa: Yeah, as she should be. Ugh.
Brady: You know, except for Dario, she has--she's lost everyone and everything.
Theresa: Oh, for God sakes, Brady, you're not actually starting to feel sorry for her.
Brady: I am, in a way. Listen--I am, in a way. It's sad. Think about it. She's never learned to love or trust anyone, so she lives her life by lying and manipulating to get what she wants. I mean, Theresa, I have a history of getting duped by women like that. I mean, my God, back in the day it was Nicole, and then it was Kristen, and then it--
Theresa: And then who, me? Brady, do you think you used bad judgment getting involved with me?
Brady: Theresa, Theresa, look at me. You were a different person back then. So was I. I was a wreck back then, but yes, I'd say that getting involved with you was initially part of that pattern.
Theresa: And now?
Brady: You've changed, and I have changed, and we have changed together. And I love you so much. There's no regret here at all.
Theresa: It's just hard sometimes, Brady. You know, Victor always trying to find fault in me, and--
Brady: Honey, let me worry about Victor, okay?
Theresa: [Scoffs] Yeah, well, good luck with that. I don't think he's gonna ever let me live down what happened with Tate today. And you know what scares me the most... is that what if, Brady--what if one day, Victor finally succeeds in turning you against me?
Brady: I promise that will never happen.
Steve: Well, now I'm a little confused. I mean, back in California, I thought we turned a corner. You even said you couldn't live without me. Remember?
Kayla: I do remember that, but it doesn't change the fact that your reckless nature scares the hell out of me.
Steve: I know.
Kayla: I think I just need some time to sort it out.
Steve: "Sort it out"... that seems to be your stock answer every time the subject comes up. You sure you're not just making excuses because you don't want to be with me?
Kayla: That's not it. I just feel that if I let you back in, I need to know, deep down in my soul, that it's the right decision for me, for our family. Look, I can never thank you enough for finding our son and bringing him home, but you heard him in there. He has clearly inherited your wanderlust and your need for danger. I mean, really? Vandalism, running away, robbery, and--oh, and then... ugh.
Steve: Ava, right?
Kayla: Yeah. How can he ever forget that he murdered somebody? How are we ever gonna forget that? I just need time.
Steve: Okay. But sweetness, I want to tell you something. You are my one and only. Nothing is ever gonna change that. [melancholy music]
Victor: You know, I don't think tracking Summer down is going to give you the closure you think it will. Besides, it may be too late. She could be miles from Salem by now.
Maggie: All right, then. I'll just use my cell phone and try to track her down... one last time.
Dario: What did you say?
Summer: That I would think about the request and get back to them. I just wanted to buy some time to get out of town. [Phone ringing]
Dario: Who is that?
Summer: [Sighs, laughs]
[Phone continues ringing]
Summer: It's my mom.
[Phone beeps, ringing stops]
Dario: Why'd you do that?
Summer: The thought of Maggie ripping into me-- I can't stand it. You know what? I hate myself for letting her down.
Dario: What the hell are you talking about? I was the one who told you to squeeze whatever you could out of her, but you refused.
Summer: I doubt it.
Dario: Let's not take any chances. I'll walk you back to your hotel.
Brady: Calamari, oysters? What do you want? You want to start with an appetizer, or-- how hungry are you?
Theresa: I'm ravenous.
Brady: Rav-- Don't. Hey, hey, hey. Don't. Don't.
Summer: From the daggers I see in your eyes, I assume Brady has already filled you in by now.
Brady: Yeah. Yeah, I did. And Dario was in on it too. It's funny. I remember more than one occasion of you two whispering very suspiciously with one another.
Summer: Dario didn't know a thing.
Brady: And you two were never really dating?
Summer: No. We're just friends.
Brady: The lies-- they just keep coming. Have you ever said anything truthful?
Summer: Yes. I was absolutely truthful with you once. And I think you know what I'm talking about.
Theresa: What's that supposed to mean?
Summer: It's not important. Just don't take what you have for granted. Brady is a good guy, and he deserves the best. And so does your precious little boy. Take good care of him.
Dario: Hey, we should get going.
Brady: Yeah. And Summer, good-bye.
Theresa: So, what is it that you're not telling me?
Maggie: She didn't pick up, so you're probably right. She's already left Salem.
[Knocking at door]
Victor: Oh, good evening, Fynn.
Fynn: Mr. Kiriakis.
Victor: I hope you don't mind, Maggie. I asked Dr. Thompson to come over. I was worried about those two falls you had recently.
Maggie: Dr. Thompson...
Fynn: Please, call me Fynn.
Maggie: Fynn, my husband, as you can tell, is a bit of an alarmist. As you can see, I'm doing quite well.
Fynn: I'd like to be the judge of that, if you don't mind. We'll humor him.
Maggie: Okay, well, if you find it necessary. But first, I'd like to ask you a few questions about Summer. I mean, you knew her when you and Daniel lived in Los Angeles, right?
Fynn: I didn't know her very well.
Maggie: Okay, then your first impression? Did you--I don't know. What did you recall?
Fynn: To be honest, she seemed to be a very troubled young woman. But Daniel--he saw something worth saving in her.
Victor: Daniel was too much like his mother: too kind-hearted for his own good.
Brady: All right, listen. A few weeks ago, Summer came to me, and she confessed that she was in love with me.
Theresa: Oh, I knew it! I knew it from day one. I knew that skank was after you. I had her pegged. Ugh. Why didn't you say anything? Brady, you can trust me. I wouldn't have said anything.
Theresa: No. I probably would've. [Laughs] I definitely would've.
Theresa: Come on, though. Hey, it's a big deal. I feel like you should've told me. I mean... Oh, my God. Do you have feelings for Summer?
Joey: Jade wasn't picking up her phone.
Kayla: Well, she's probably talking to her parents as we speak.
Joey: You know, I really wish you'd give Jade a chance. Do you still blame her for getting me into trouble?
Kayla: I think that she is a very misguided girl who has set her sights on my son, and I don't think that either one of you are really right for each other.
Joey: God, Mom, just like that? You don't even know her or what her life's been like. Go get Dad. He'll back me up, or at least listen.
Kayla: I listen.
Joey: No, you don't. You just think you do. Where is he?
Kayla: He's spending the night in his office.
Joey: And not with you? You still haven't taken him back after everything he's done? He risked his life for me again. What more does he have to prove?
Kayla: You know, Joey, it's complicated. I love your father very much, but people change. I've changed.
Joey: You know, if you ruled the world, it'd be a pretty lonely place. You should think more with your heart and less with your head. Dad deserves a second chance, and so does Jade!
Fynn: Well, I'm afraid I have no other option but to... award you a clean bill of health.
Victor: Well, that's wonderful news.
Fynn: Even so, I recommend you continue to take it easy. Don't push yourself too hard.
Maggie: Thank you, Fynn, for coming out at this hour of the night.
Victor: Yes. We appreciate it.
Fynn: Not a problem. Any time.
Maggie: Okay, good night.
Fynn: Good night.
Victor: Good night, Fynn.
Maggie: So, are you happy now?
Victor: Sublimely. Always happy to hear that my wife is in good health. Speaking of taking it easy, have you thought any more about that cruise? I know the first time we brought it up, you were a bit angry, but--
Maggie: Victor, are you sure you can afford it?
Victor: I wouldn't be the self-made man that I am if I wasn't wise enough to squirrel away a few bucks.
Maggie: Okay. Let's look at it, then. I'm starting to think that getting away for a while-- it might be the best thing for the both of us.
Joey: Jade, hey.
Jade: Hey. [Sniffles] I made it just before visiting hours were over.
Joey: I'm glad. What's wrong?
Jade: Things didn't go over well with my parents, and my dad kicked me out. And the sick thing is that... I thought I didn't care about what they thought of me. But it hurts so bad, I know I do.
Joey: I'm so sorry. They'll come around. You'll see.
Jade: No, I don't think so. They hate me. And now I have no place to go.
Brady: No. I do not have feelings for Summer.
Theresa: I just don't want to be the last person to know some ho is after my man.
Brady: I have an idea. Why don't we-- why don't we have a really nice dinner, huh?
Theresa: Oh, I lost my appetite a while ago.
Brady: Okay, why don't I order take-out, and we can have it later?
Theresa: Yeah, sure. Kayla?
Kayla: Oh, Theresa. Oh, it seems like forever.
Theresa: Yeah, it has been. Grandma Caroline told me that Joey got shot. It sounded pretty scary.
Kayla: Yeah, but he's okay, thank God. He's gonna make a full recovery. Oh, look at this sleeping little prince.
Theresa: Yeah, I just-- like for you. I mean, thinking your child might die. I would've fallen apart.
Kayla: No, you wouldn't have. You're stronger than that. I think motherhood suits you.
Theresa: Wow. Thanks. At least someone thinks so.
Kayla: Why would anyone even question it?
Theresa: It's just Victor. He's been all over me lately. I mean, I made one tiny little mistake with Tate today. He jumped all over me, and--
Kayla: Well, I wouldn't pay attention to him. It wasn't that long ago that you were at the hospital, and I was keeping an eye on you. I'm really proud of the way you've turned your life around.
Theresa: Thanks. Thank you. That means a lot. I mean, I've tried really hard. I don't know. Despite what Victor says, I guess everyone deserves a second chance, right?
Jade: You sure about that? Your mom isn't exactly my biggest fan.
Joey: She's not gonna kick you out knowing that you don't have a place to go. Don't worry. We'll figure out a way to make this work. I love you.
Jade: I love you too.
[Knocking at door]
Steve: Who's there?
Kayla: Steve, it's me.
Steve: What's going on?
Kayla: Um... you left this behind when you moved out.
Steve: I've got about 20 of those. You didn't have to come all this way.
Kayla: I just wanted you to know that... I do love you. It's a quandary. I can't seem to live with you. I don't know if I can live without you.
Dario: That is a hell of a lot of money.
Summer: Yeah. Tempting, isn't it, to just take it and run, despite the risk? I mean, we have made a career out of taking risks. What's one more, right?
Dario: Yeah, the difference is, you'd be stealing from someone who'd make our previous scams seem penny-ante. I don't think I'd want to cross them. What they're asking you to do es una locura.
Summer: You're right. I just hope Theresa took my warning seriously, because someone out there is willing to pay a lot of money.
