Episode #12878 ~ André tells Chad that Abigail gave him the letter; JJ confronts Chad about Abigail; difficult memories prevent Hope from making love to Aiden; Rafe questions André about Aiden.
Provided By Jim
Rafe: [Quietly] What the hell? Aiden was... Why the hell would he use a fake name?
Hope: Aiden, don't do this.
Aiden: Ah, Hope, look, there comes a time when you gotta--
Hope: No, no, you don't get to decide for me. I will not let fear make me give up.
Aiden: Hope, this is not about fear. Look, this is about me, okay, not listening to you. How many times have you said to me, "Look, I--we need to go slow," and I keep pushing and pushing you to try--
Hope: No, hold on. Go away.
Aiden: Yes. Yes, and that was the right thing to do....
Hope: But it made us realize that we haven't gotten past what happened. It's not time for us to-- to move forward. Not yet. I love you. I love you... so I need to respect that.
JJ: And did Abigail at any time talk to you about her plan to escape?
She didn't talk to anyone about anything. Except that girl. The new one.
JJ: A new patient?
No, the young girl. Helps out. Pretty. Abigail would talk to her. They shared things like they knew each other.
JJ: Ciara? Are you talking about Ciara Brady?
Chad: "My dearest Chad, This is the hardest letter I've ever had to write because in it I must tell you that you and Thomas will never see me again. I got home, and I felt like a stranger here, and I realize that's always what I'd be now. That no matter how sane I seemed, there would always be a part of you that wondered. That worried. And I can't blame you for that. I'd feel the same way in your shoes. I can't put you or Thomas through this, so I have to go away to give you and Thomas a chance at a sane life. I will always love you, but this is for the best. Don't try to find me. You never will. Good-bye, my love."
[Soft dramatic music]
Chad: I can't believe--
Ciara: What can't you believe?
Chad: She's gone.
Shawn: Rafe, hey.
Shawn: You doing some heavy thinking over there? You got a suspicious case?
Rafe: I don't know yet. Are you just getting here now? Huh?
Shawn: Yeah, I'm working on this fire. It's another fire case.
Rafe: Another one?
Shawn: Yeah, apparently we have a serial arsonist, or we have a serial killer pretending to be an arsonist. Or we might have both.
Rafe: On what?
Shawn: Okay... tell me what's going on.
Aiden: Mm. Hope... are you sure?
Shawn: So? You gonna tell me what's bothering you?
Rafe: I need to sit on it for awhile.
Shawn: You sure about that?
Shawn: I mean, come on, I may be able to help you. Offer you a little perspective.
Rafe: Maybe another time.
Shawn: Is this about my mom?
Rafe: Now why would you ask that?
Shawn: Because... I mean, it can't feel very good knowing she's off with some other guy.
Rafe: Well... [Sighs] That's none of my business anymore, so...
Shawn: Really? That's all you got? That's it?
Rafe: [Laughs] I've just got something that, um...add up, and if or when I figure it out, I'll let you know.
Shawn: Hmm. Brady. Yeah, yeah, I can be there in 15 minutes. Right. Okay, all right, see you then. Got another case.
Rafe: Okay, man. Do what you gotta do.
Shawn: Listen, I hope you figure out whatever it is that's going on, all right?
Rafe: Mm-hmm. [Sighs] Me too.
JJ: When does Ciara come back on duty?
Dr. Robinson: She's scheduled for this evening.
JJ: I have two more patients to interrogate. Please have someone come find me the minute Ciara shows up.
Dr. Robinson: Of course.
Ciara: Chad, I'm so sorry. I don't even know what to say.
Chad: I don't accept that. It's not possible. All she ever talked about was wanting to come home.
Ciara: But then she got here and, like, freaked out?
Chad: Yeah, she was scared off--she's-- Her life the last year has been one trauma after another, but that's never changed the fact that she wanted to be here. She wanted to be at home with me and our son.
Ciara: Is this even her handwriting?
Chad: That's her handwriting, but that's not her.
Ciara: Where'd you find it?
Chad: I didn't. André did.
André: Mm. [Sighs] So much mayhem to attend to and so little time. [Exhales]
[Knocks on door]
André: I'm resting, thank you.
[Knocks on door]
Chad: Open the door, André.
[Knocks on door]
[Knocks on door]
André: [Exhales sharply]
Chad: Where is she? What have you done with her?
JJ: All right, I'll keep an eye on him. You can wait outside.
Chase: Is Ciara in some sort of trouble?
JJ: This has nothing to do with you.
Chase: Well, she didn't have anything to do with Abigail escaping, if that's what you think.
JJ: Like I've said, this has nothing to do with you. Unless you've got information that can help find my sister.
Chase: I don't know where she went. Why didn't she just go home? That's all she ever talked about.
JJ: She talked to you?
Chase: Uh, no, but I hear things, and I know Ciara and Abigail were close, but they hardly talked.
JJ: That's not what some of the other patients told me.
Chase: Well, some people just talk to get attention. So if you somehow think Ciara helped Abigail escape in some way, I can guarantee that's not possible.
JJ: And why is that?
Chase: Because she was with me at the time everyone said Abigail got away. ou the letter in my living room.
André: I would find that fortunate, wouldn't you?
Chad: Yeah, unless it's one of your sick games that you use to make people suffer. In this case me. So you take it upon yourself to read it and then give me the news.
André: What're you saying, Chad? Are you implying that I know where Abigail is?
Chad: No, I'm not implying anything.
André: What do you think I wrote the letter to stop you from looking for her? You think I'm in some sort of collusion with Abigail?
Chad: Okay, well, thank you for spelling that out for me. Now tell me where the hell she is.
André: You know, and you can keep your voice down, otherwise the whole town's gonna hear you.
Chad: Just tell me where she is, André!
André: I don't know where she is!
Chad: You're lying!
André: Now why would I do that? To what end?
Chad: To what end? To what end do you do anything to make people suffer, you son of a bitch.
André: [Scoffs] Would you just think logically for a minute? Just be rational. You and I, if you recall, had an agreement. There is something you have that I want. Do you think it'd be to my benefit to hide Abigail somewhere? Why would I do that?
Chad: Just tell me where she is.
André: I have no idea! I don't know how many times I'm supposed to tell you! I don't know where Abigail is, and your angry accusation not withstanding, I wish I knew where she was.
Chad: [Laughs softly]
André: All right, all right, all right. [Groans] [Exhales sharply] I did lie to you about one thing, but the only reason I did was because I didn't want you to be further traumatized than you already were.
Chad: Okay, so what did you lie about then, hmm? What did you lie about? Spit it out!
André: I didn't find that letter. Abigail gave it to me. I saw her.
Chad: You son of a bitch.
André: I tell you what, you either calm down... or leave or we can sit here and talk rationally. Which will it be? [Tense music]
Chase: She was in the reading room. I was out in the hall, but I saw her.
JJ: And you just sat there the whole time?
Chase: What else is there for me to do? I spent the whole day watching where she was so I could stay the hell out of her way.
JJ: That's creepy, man.
Chase: I just don't want this to be any harder for her than it has to be. I'm telling you that Ciara doesn't know anything about Abigail escaping, so why don't you just talk to somebody who does?
[Soft dramatic music]
JJ: I need to speak with you. Will you step over here, please? Okay, I need you to account for all your movements before, during, and after Abigail escaped.
JJ: Excuse me? Why the hell would I be joking?
Ciara: You think I had something to do with this?
JJ: You and Abigail were close. You must have known how much she hated it here.
Ciara: Yeah, but so did everybody. I mean, who likes it here?
JJ: Answer my question, Ciara.
Ciara: Okay, fine. I hardly even saw her while I was working.
JJ: Okay, well, if you didn't help her out, then you got nothing to worry about.
Ciara: I didn't, but I'm not sorry that she got out. And you shouldn't be either.
JJ: Of course I'm sorry. At least she was safe here. Do you think it makes me happy that my sister's missing, roaming around God knows where, in her state of mind?
Ciara: No, I didn't mean that, okay? It just seemed like this place was making her worse.
JJ: Oh, right, and she's much better off on the run. All alone, mentally unstable, no money, maybe hitchhiking across the country. Yeah, that is a much better situation.
Ciara: Come on, don't be sarcastic.
JJ: No, I'm trying to get through to you that it's not good news that Abigail is missing. Whether she hated this place or not.
Ciara: I'm sorry for being so insensitive. I just figured that if she was gonna leave, she'd go home. That's what I thought she wanted. That's what Chad thought she wanted. I can't believe that she'd break his heart like this.
JJ: Well, I'm not convinced Chad is being totally upfront with us. I think maybe he's hiding something. If you know anything about that, you should tell me now.
Ciara: Chad is a mess about this, JJ. He's not hiding anything.
Chad: Wait, so you saw Abby in the mansion?
André: Yeah. [Sighs] She seemed so scared, so fragile... emotional, but she felt she was doing the right thing.
Chad: And you just let her leave? You didn't even try to stop her?
André: Well, of course I tried to stop her.
André: Well, I-- I was trying to be persuasi-- I was emphatic... [Sighs] I tried to tell her to stay, and told her how much you loved her, how important that child was to her.
Chad: Okay how did she react to all of that?
André: Well, she was... she was kind of detached. I mean she was sad. There were tears in her eyes. She was emotional, but she felt she was doing the right thing.
Chad: And you didn't argue with her? You didn't tell her that it was wrong. That it was the absolute worst thing that she could possibly do?
André: Chad, I couldn't bind her physically. She's a very determined woman.
Chad: Okay, so then why lie to me? Why tell me that you found the letter? [Dramatic music]
André: [exhales] I was just ashamed...
André: That I couldn't convince her to stay, and I knew it was going to be devastating to you, but it was her decision, and that's why I knew that-- Well, that's how I felt, that the letter would be sufficient for you to realize that it was true.
Chad: You know, you make it impossible for anyone to believe anything you say.
André: I did try my best, and I-- I hope I can convince you that my heart was really in it.
Chad: [Laughs softly] You don't have a heart.
André: Well, I hope this is... [Chuckles] Doesn't screw up our arrangement. Well... have a nice night. Than for dropping by. [phone rings]
Rafe: Hernandez. The Salem Inn? What room? I'm on my way.
[Soft dramatic music]
Aiden: I have to go get your surprise.
Hope: Mm. [Chuckles] It better be worth it, Jennings.
Aiden: Oh, well... It will. It will.
Hope: I love you. [Screaming] [both breathing heavily, grunting]
Hope: Ah! [Groaning and straining]
Aiden: No, no!
Hope: [wails] Aiden!
Aiden: No, no, no...
Hope: [Breathing heavily]
JJ: You said you've got news?
Chad: Yeah, um... Abby wrote me a letter. She's left, and she doesn't want me to look for her.
Jennifer: That is not possible. Why would she say that?
Chad: Read it for yourself.
JJ: Where'd you find this?
Chad: I didn't. André did.
JJ: And then what? What, he just let her leave?
Chad: I don't know, JJ. He said he couldn't stop her.
Jennifer: "This is the hardest letter I have ever had to write..." This is her handwriting.
Chad: Yes, I tried to convince myself it wasn't, but it's her handwriting.
JJ: You don't seem that torn up about it.
Chad: Who the hell are you to tell me how I feel?
JJ: Well, you seem kind of calm, that's all.
Chad: Really, calm, JJ? I feel calm? I feel like my heart's been ripped out of my chest.
JJ: Where is she, Chad?
Chad: Don't push me, JJ.
JJ: Answer my question!
Chad: I don't know where she is!
JJ: You got her to write this, didn't you?
Chad: You're not listening to me. I don't know where she is.
Jennifer: JJ, what're you talking about?
JJ: How come you can't figure it out, Mom? What a better way to throw us off than to claim she doesn't want to be found? You made it very clear you don't trust us.
Chad: Yeah, you're right, JJ, I don't trust you, and I'm beginning not to like you. I didn't forge the letter and I didn't convince her to write it.
JJ: Well, I think you're lying. I think you know exactly where she is.
JJ: And you made her believe that it's safer to be hidden.
Chad: Okay, you know what? Go ahead, you can think that. You wanna feel like a hotshot? Huh? Search the entire place, JJ.
JJ: All right.
Chad: You want to point the finger at me? Go ahead. You want to blame me? It's not gonna help you find her. You're not gonna find her here. But I will.
Aiden: I'm sorry. Are you okay?
Hope: It wasn't you. It wasn't you.
Aiden: Look I knew this was a mistake.
Hope: Aiden, I wasn't saying no to you. It was those images. I was trying to make them stop. I keep seeing his face the night of--
Aiden: Oh, God.
Hope: He's not you. I know that. God, why can't I get it out of my head?
Aiden: I know you thought being away from everything, would make it easier to forget, but... it's not working.
Hope: [Quietly] No, it isn't. Has a delivery arrived for me?
[Knocks on door]
Hope: Oh, no, I'm sorry, I can't hold on. I'll have to call you back. Thank you. Detective Hernandez. What an unexpected treat, twice in one day.
Rafe: I need to ask you some questions.
André: Is this about Mr. Monahan?
Rafe: It's not. Why was Aiden Jennings visiting you in prison? And why was he using an assumed name?
Hope: It was my idea to come here. [Soft dramatic music]
Aiden: Look, I'm the one who brought so much pain into your life. If I was just honest with you from the beginning, if I never got involved with the Dimeras then--
Hope: Then I never would have known you. I'm just not ready.
Aiden: I understand.
Hope: You were right. It's too soon.
Aiden: Don't want to force what's not there. Wouldn't even want to try.
Chad: I thought you had to volunteer at the clinic tonight.
Ciara: Yeah, I was shaken up so I asked if I could go home. So... JJ seems to think that you're lying or, like, you're covering something up. Do you know where Abigail is? I swear, I won't tell anyone. I just want her to be safe. You know I got your back, right?
Chad: I wish I did know. I wish I was hiding her. I wish I never sent her to the clinic. I wish that she never would have met Ben. I wish I knew if my wife loved me. I wish I knew what the hell to do with my son! [Dramatic music]
Ciara: Is there anything I can do to help?
Chad: Go check on Thomas. [exhales sharply] Hope: Just gonna take more time, I guess.
Aiden: Yeah. What if there's nothing you can do?
Hope: What do you mean?
Aiden: What if... you're never ready?
Hope: [Quietly] I don't know.
Aiden: I guess, you know, just... being a few hundred miles away, I thought that would solve our problems. Just wishful thinking, right? It's not Salem. It's not your house. What's triggering all those horrible memories, Hope... It's me. That's never gonna change.
André: [Sighs] Do you know how many visitors I had while I was in prison?
Rafe: Besides your lawyer? Oh, I can count 'em on a couple fingers. Feeling unloved?
André: [Chuckles] Speaking of "unloved," Hope Brady was one of those visitors.
Rafe: Yes, I know.
André: She accused me of-- of, um-- of kidnapping and the disappearance of, uh, Aiden. [Chuckling] And then I had to get through this boring story-- preposterous story-- that the Aiden look-alike was supposed to have been trying to kill her.
Rafe: Yeah, but unfortunately with your family, it's not so preposterous. It happened.
André: Always blaming the DiMeras. Trite. [Sighs] But now that my father's gone, you'll just have to find a new pastime.
Rafe: Hmm, I don't think so.
André: Well, if my father did indeed substitute the Aiden look-alike for the real thing, I had nothing to do with it.
Rafe: Yeah, well, now that you're father's dead, it's really convenient to blame him, but moving forward...
Rafe: It's not gonna work so well for you.
André: Is there a point to all of this? I'm just trying to make up for lost time.
Rafe: Oh, you know what the point is. I didn't ask you why Hope visited you. I asked you why Aiden did. Why don't you want to answer? [Dramatic music]
Chad: Well, what do you think?
Ciara: I think somebody made her write this. I mean, maybe it's her handwriting, but it doesn't sound like her.
Chad: No, you're right, it doesn't.
Ciara: But who would do that? Who would want to keep her away from you? Ben?
Chad: That was my first thought, but he's locked up, so... André?
Ciara: But why?
Chad: I don't know. To take advantage of me somehow?
Ciara: So what're you gonna do?
Chad: I'm gonna let him think it's working.
Ciara: You really think that André maybe has her somewhere?
Chad: Let's find out.
[Cell phone beeps]
Chad: André, it's me. I lost my head and I overreacted. I'm sorry. I need to see you.
[Cell phone beeps]
Chad: I'm gonna track him down myself.
Ciara: Wait, hold on. I don't know if that's the smartest move.
Chad: Why not?
Ciara: I mean, wouldn't it seem, like, kind of obvious? Didn't you guys just get in a fight?
Ciara: Well, is there anything that he wants from you? Like some kind of peace offering or something?
Chad: Yeah, some stupid piece of property he wants me to sign over to him.
Ciara: Well, try to make him believe that you've changed your mind about it. Otherwise, he's gonna smell a trap.
Chad: You're pretty good at this.
Ciara: I'm a teenager. Welcome to my life.
Chad: [Chuckles] Okay, so, I'll bring him the paperwork.
Ciara: That's good.
Chad: He'll think I'm weak and take advantage.
Ciara: You're pretty good at this too.
Chad: Welcome to my world.
Jennifer: What're you doing to find her?
JJ: We're getting a search warrant for the DiMera--
Jennifer: I mean, do you really think that Chad is lying to us?
JJ: I'm not leaving anything to chance.
Jennifer: Do you really think he has Abigail hidden somewhere?
JJ: I think with him, anything is possible, and I think he'll do anything, regardless of how foolish, to keep her hidden.
[Cell phone rings]
[Cell phone beeps]
JJ: Deveraux. [exhales] Okay, thanks, Roman. I appreciate it.
[Cell phone beeps]
JJ: Roman can't get a judge to sign off on the warrant at this hour, but it'll be on his doorstep the first thing in the morning.
Jennifer: We don't have time for that, JJ.
JJ: Mom, I think we need to focus on why André's suddenly involved.
Jennifer: And you really believe that André is helping Chad?
JJ: I don't know. I thought they hated each other's guts, but, obviously, they're doing something. Another reason why we need to find Abigail as soon as we can. At least Chad loves her, but André, he just cares about himself, and when he's after something, Mom, he doesn't care who gets hurt.
André: Why are you asking me? I mean, don't you have surveillance footage?
Rafe: There's no audio.
André: Oh. Oh, well, be as it may... [Chuckles] You know why Aiden was visiting me. Same reason Hope was. He wanted to harangue me about the abduction I had nothing to do with, but it was the same conversation, different day.
Rafe: Why'd he use an alias, then?
André: I didn't know that he did. Maybe he just didn't want his name on record just in case he decided to murder me.
Rafe: Well, he had to have known that there was video surveillance.
André: So how often do you look at it?
Rafe: Well, I know he went more than once. Did you need a repeat haranguing?
André: [Laughing] Yes, apparently. Oh, by the way, he also wanted to ask me about a house that my father owned outside of town.
Rafe: Oh, right, but unfortunately, that belongs to Chad now, doesn't it? So why'd he need to ask you about that?
André: Oh, that's an interesting question.
André: Maybe you should ask him. Oh. [Sighs]
Rafe: All right, I'll be back.
André: Hmm. I'll wait with bated breath. [Chuckling] [Sighs] [Chuckles] Ah, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Aiden: The man who tried to kill you, he had my face, and, uh... that's never gonna change.
Hope: I really thought I was ready, but...
Aiden: Too much too soon, right? [Sighs] All right, well... you know, I think maybe we should just... head back to Salem in the morning. What do you say?
Aiden: Okay. You know... [Sighs] I wish there was something I could do to make this easier.
Hope: I know.
JJ: André left his room a little while ago, and Chad stopped by to look for him after he already left.
Jennifer: Oh, yeah, they're definitely involved in this together. I can't even believe that Chad would trust him over us.
JJ: He's a DiMera, Mom. Okay, we can't trust any of them. We need to find Abigail and figure out a way to keep her hidden. I don't care how much she loves him. I know that, in the end, he's just gonna end up hurting her.
Chad: He wasn't home. Or he's avoiding me. I shouldn't have made that call. I tipped him off. [mouthing]
Ciara: Well, I think you can still get the upper hand. I have faith in you.
Chad: Whoa. Thanks. It's good to have someone I can talk to.
Chad: Someone I can trust.
Ciara: Anything you need. I wanna help.
Chad: [Inhales sharply] [Quietly] Hi. There you go. Come here. Oh. Hi.
[Soft dramatic music]
Hope: I guess I'll go back to my room.
Aiden: Yeah, okay.
Hope: See you in the morning. Sleep tight.
Aiden: You too.
Rafe: Hey, it's me, Hernandez. Listen, thanks again for the title search on the DiMera property, but you sure this is theirs? [Chuckles] No, I'm just wondering why the hell Aiden Jennings would want to buy this dump.
André: Hmm. [Exhales slowly]
