Provided By Suzanne

Fynn: They promised they'd have the brakes fixed tomorrow morning. 8:30 at the latest.

Kayla: And then we'll get right back on the road, right?

Fynn: Right. Got a couple of rooms. We'll get a decent night's sleep. I know you wish you were on your way to la. And you're anxious about your son.

Kayla: Try worried sick. You know, I--I really-- I really should have flown.

Fynn: Kayla, we've been over this. You know at 35,000 feet, even with a pressurized cabin, so many things can go wrong. A subdural hematoma is nothing to--

Kayla: You know what, I get it, Fynn. I am taking my anti-seizure meds, and I'm really fine. I'm just-- I'm just having trouble keeping my sodium levels up. That's it.

Fynn: Well, there is a fast food joint across the road, you know. That means sodium. So how about I get us some burgers and fries?

Kayla: That actually sounds kind of good. [Chuckles]

Fynn: You got it. It's always on in case you need me, okay?

Kayla: Thank you. [Sighs] [Sighs] [Groaning] [Sighs] [Inhales sharply] [Groans]

John: Scorpion tattoo on hand. Scorpion tattoo.

Steve: No biker gang uses it.

John: No, they're into angels and devils and snakes. I doubt if Joey'd be hooked up with a gang anyway.

Steve: If he's driving the getaway car for a robbery, he's definitely in with the wrong crowd, starting with that little jade.

[Phone ringing]

Steve: Karl? Tell me you got something.

Sands of Eden? East of here. All right, man. We're on it. Great work. Thanks.

[Phone beeps]

It is that commune in the antelope valley, and that scorpion on the hand is their mark.

John: And she's their den mother. [Sighs] Check out her scorpion.

Jade: That's so awesome. Now we belong. I like that, you know? Never really felt like a part of anything before.

[Acoustic guitar strumming]

Dirk: Say hi to me

Joey: What if now we have to, like, go around killing people like the Manson family or something?

Jade: [Chuckles] Aunt Simone is not Charles Manson, okay? She's a vegan. She doesn't want to kill anything.

Dirk: Like an angel the smell of crimson red

Joey: Still, this place...

Jade: I know. It's not your thing. Even though if you did say you like the vibe here.

Joey: The vibe is fine. It's Dirk. His singing, which sucks.

Dirk: You say to me

Jade: No, it doesn't. It's sad and beautiful.

Dirk: That you should be follow me to the deep

Mm.

[Phone rings]

Rafe: You know, I told you you couldn't just eat half. Huh?

Hope: You were right.

Rafe: Yep.

Hope: Your mom could get rich opening a bakery.

Rafe: I know, right?

Hope: Oh, my God, it's so delici-- what's going on?

He was part of that drug bust out on Springer. His friends took off, and he was left holding the bag.

Rafe: Hey, Rory. In there. We'll take it.

Gotcha. Come on.

Rafe: Thanks.

Hope: Well, it looks like we're back to it.

Rafe: Yeah.

Hope: Thanks again for joining me for lunch. And for the delicious dessert that your mom sent.

Rafe: At least we got to spend some time together.

Hope: Mm-hmm.

[Light instrumental music]

Aiden: [Sighs] You okay, son?

[Dramatic music]

Chase: Seriously?

Aiden: Chase, I know right now things don't seem like they're all--

Chase: You're dead. I visited your grave. And now you're gonna start visiting and saying things like, "are you okay, son?"

Aiden: Chase, I am sorry that you have been through so much. But I do have some good news. I think I can get you out of here.

I'm gonna argue that you were emotionally overwhelmed, that you were not in your right mind, and that is what caused you to make that horrible mistake with Ciara. Look, you thought I just tried to murder hope. You thought that--

Chase: So you're gonna tell the judge that I'm crazy.

Aiden: I am gonna try to keep you out of prison and convince the judge that you should be in a hospital. Now, look, I did a little research. There's a great facility nearby. I think I--

Chase: Well, isn't that convenient.

Aiden: What?

Chase: You stuff me in a mental institution so you can at least say that you tried to help me. I get it.

Aiden: Chase, I think this will help.

Chase: While you're still trying to work all the angles trying to get hope back?

[Dramatic music]

Rafe: Wake up, kid. Wake up! You were caught with five kilos of white rhino. Five.

Rory: They shoved it in my lap and took off. It wasn't mine.

Rafe: Oh, really?

Hope: Rafe, wh--hey. Ease up, would you? Kid's kind of vulnerable right now. Rory, here. A little thirsty?

Rory: Thanks.

Rafe: Yeah, drink up. Then you got ten seconds to tell the truth.

Hope: JJ is his friend. I'm sure there's more to the story.

Rory: Yeah, there is. It wasn't my idea, okay? It was snowball's.

Rafe: Oh, snowball? Snowball, really?

Hope: Wait.

Rafe: The guy have a real name?

Hope: Rory. You know you have the right to an attorney, correct?

Rory: Uh-huh.

Hope: Okay.

Rafe: If a lawyer walks in here, the deal's off the table.

Hope: Rafe, it's his call.

Rory, what are you thinking?

Rory: I swear, detective, I was so stoned I had no idea what was going on. They tricked me into holding their stash, and then they left me there.

Hope: You see? I told you there was more to it. The real guilty ones are the ones who abandoned him. We can do a deal for him no problem.

Rory, all you have to do is just write down their names, okay?

Rory: No way. [Sighs] [Groans] [Sighs] [Groaning] [Groans]

[Phone ringing]

[Phone beeps]

Steve: Hey, sweetness. How you feeling?

Kayla: I'm fine. I'm fine. Any news on Joey?

Steve: Well, actually, we just got a lead. We're about to head out. Are you still on the road?

Kayla: Uh, well, actually, the car broke down, and it's gonna be fixed first thing in the morning.

Steve: Okay, well, listen. Why don't you just turn around and head back to Salem? That virus took a lot out of you, baby.

Kayla: Steve, I'm fine. Stop, really. All I care about is finding Joey, bringing him home, getting him away from jade before she gets him in some kind of trouble.

Steve: Yeah, we wouldn't want that.

Kayla: What? Steve?

Steve: What?

Kayla: What aren't you telling me?

Steve: Nothing. I'm just a little distracted. We're about to check on this lead. Listen, Kayla, please. Just go back to Salem. We're gonna find Joe before you can even get here.

Kayla: Steve.

Steve: I got to go. You take care of yourself.

John: Hey, partner.

Steve: Yeah.

John: Did you say that that jade's name was... Michaels?

Steve: Uh-huh.

John: Check this out.

Simone Michaels.

Steve: Well, that's got to be jade's aunt. That's where they're staying.

John: All right, look. I printed out a map. Shouldn't take us long to get there.

Steve: No, no, no. Hold on, hold on. If we both go, I think Joe will get spooked. And we don't want to scare this woman Simone. She might be helpful.

John: All right. You're on your own. Be careful. Stay in touch. I'll see if I can hook up with a buddy of mine--LAPD. Maybe he has more dirt on this group.

Steve: All right. Let me know what he gets.

John: Yep. [Sighs]

Eduardo: So I just missed her?

Gabi: Oh, yeah. The sitter just picked her up two minutes ago. Sorry.

Eduardo: Oh, that's too bad. I--I always feel better after I spend a little time with the little one, you know? She's--she's such a light.

Gabi: Yeah. So... you, uh... you going somewhere? Why'd you need a sitter?

Gabi: Yeah, yeah. JJ and I are gonna spend some time together when he goes off duty.

Eduardo: Oh. You and, uh... you and JJ seem to be getting close.

[Dramatic music]

Gabi: Let me guess. You don't like that one bit, do you?

JJ: Seriously? Five kilos?

Rafe: Yeah, five. Since you and Rory used to be tight, we figured he'd be more comfortable talking to you.

Hope: We need the names of who else was involved.

Roman: Wait a minute here. Wait a minute. JJ's a patrolman. He's a rookie. He is not trained in interrogation.

JJ: Okay, yeah, but we're friends. Look, I know how Rory's mind works. I can do this.

Rafe: Roman, we struck out. It's a shot.

[Dramatic music]

Roman: [Sighs]

All right. All right. Go ahead.

Rory: JJ Deveraux.

Where's your badge, dude? And your nice shiny uniform?

JJ: No, I'm going off duty. I thought I'd see what's going on.

Rory: Yeah, right. They think that just because it's you I'm going to be their snitch.

JJ: I'm here as your friend, man.

Rory: Let's see, why don't I believe that? Maybe because the minute you dressed up like a cop you decided cut me off. No texts, no calls. I'm a loser now, right?

JJ: All right, look. Come on, Rory. When I put on that uniform it's not like I could... you know, hang out with a guy who's into the stuff that you're into, but look. I am here as a friend, and I will help you if you let me.

Rory: Is that a fact?

JJ: Any one of those guys would sell you out in a heartbeat. Do you really want to go in for, like, 15 years just so you can say that you kept your mouth shut? While they're out there just laughing?

Rory: They did dump it all on me and run. And I was too baked to know what was even happening.

JJ: Okay, well then they should pay, not you, man.

Rory: Yeah.

No. I better keep it zipped. I'm going to Statesville either way. Why make a bunch of enemies before I even get there?

JJ: What if you didn't have to do time? What if I can get you immunity?

Aiden: Chase, this is about you, what's best for you. It's not about me.

Chase: I guess. But you should get hope back. You couldn't help it. That guy impersonating you, it wasn't your fault. You deserve another chance.

Aiden: So do you, son. Listen. You are too young to have this wreck your life.

Chase: No, forget it. I am better off in prison.

Aiden: Why would you even think that?

Chase: Because, dad, I thought you were a psycho who got murdered. And I started realizing deep down, I'm one too.

Aiden: You thought--

Chase: I'm serious.

There's this thing inside of me and sometimes it takes over.

Aiden: Then let me bring in a psychiatrist. Chase, look, you can beat this.

Chase: No. No shrinks.

Aiden: Why? Why not?

Chase: Because if they start digging, I don't really want to know what's down there. I'm different. Maybe it's because I was there when the gun went off.

Aiden: Don't tell anyone what chase did. Because if it comes out... hope, it'll destroy his life. You were just a little boy. You didn't do anything to make that happen.

Chase: Maybe mom killed herself 'cause of me.

Aiden: No!

Chase: Whatever. It doesn't matter. The point is I don't need some shrink telling me what I already know, which is deep down, something's rotten.

Aiden: That is not true.

Chase: Okay, just drop it, dad! Don't tell the judge I'm crazy, don't get me a shrink, and don't even bother visiting anymore! I'm done!

Steve: He's my son Joe. Joe Johnson. He's living here. He came here with your niece jade a little while ago. Can you tell me where he is?

Simone: I'm sorry, Steve. I--I never give out information one way or the other about the souls who pass this way. It's important that they have their privacy protected.

Steve: Yeah, but I am his father.

Simone: Some are running from terrible homes, abuse, neglect, you name it.

Steve: Right. Well, that's a good policy, and this is obviously a very special place, but I just want to talk to my son for a few minutes. I can guarantee you he is not running from any kind of abuse. He's been mixed up about a lot of things lately, and--

Simone: Steve, Steve, I can't possibly--

Steve: I can see that you are a very compassionate person. You want what's best for Joe and everybody who comes through here. Now, I'm his parent. You must understand how--how worried I am. So please. Just tell my boy I'm here.

Eduardo: Look... I got nothing against JJ, don't--don't get me wrong.

Gabi: But?

Eduardo: But--well, it's just that... being a cop can be dangerous, and sometimes the danger spills over into the lives of the people who have gotten close to the cop.

Gabi: Are you serious? Seriously right now? The man who used to be an assassin is--is trying to protect me from dating someone who's in a dangerous profession? Really?

Eduardo: Yeah, yeah. Well, hey, okay, I-- I'm a hypocrite, I admit it, but I speak from first-hand experience, and this is a plain fact. Cops make enemies and enemies are dangerous. It's definitive, right?

Gabi: Wow.

Eduardo: What?

Gabi: It's the same old, same old.

Eduardo: What?

Gabi: That's what it is.

Eduardo: What? What?

Gabi: Well, you have a son who's a cop. Do you remember that? Let me get this straight. It's okay for Rafe to have a love life. That's fine, right? But if JJ's interested in me, then the answer's a no?

[Dramatic music]

Gabi: You know, that sounds-- that sounds kind of sexist to me.

Eduardo: You think?

Gabi: Yeah.

Eduardo: All I know is I think women... are vulnerable in a different way. They--they are. I mean, fathers tend to be more protective of their daughters. That's just they way it is.

Gabi: Okay. All right, well, thank you for looking out for me. But I'm gonna-- I'm gonna date JJ. All right? He's--he's a great guy and he's a great cop, and I'm very proud of him.

Roman: [Sighs] JJ... what the hell made you think you could tell that kid he'd get immunity? Did the D.A. Give you permission to say that?

JJ: No, but if I thought that--

Roman: Well, you thought wrong! There's no way we're gonna honor that deal.

JJ: But roman, I gave Rory my word!

Roman: You're a rookie, JJ! You don't have a word to give. Now, here. Pick up Rory's two buddies.

JJ: No, no. You--you can't use those names if Rory doesn't get a deal.

Roman: Seriously? You're gonna tell me what to do? JJ, you need to learn to do what we ask. Only what we ask. You do not move forward on your own.

JJ: Okay, but roman--

Roman: There is no deal!

JJ: Oh, my God.

Hope: Immunity deals have to be signed off on by the D.A.

JJ: Yeah, but he's gonna think I lied to him.

Rafe: We'll explain to him how it happened. Right now we need to go pick up his two buddies.

[Acoustic guitar strumming]

Dirk: Get in range

Joey: Hey.

Dirk: Do it now

Jade: What are you thinking about?

Joey: Thinking about my parents. Feeling pretty guilty, I guess.

Jade: [Sighs] Why are you feeling guilty?

Joey: Well, I mean, they got to be worried about me. I mean, we skipped out on that court thing. They don't even know where I am.

Jade: So now you regret running away with me.

Joey: No, I don't regret running away with you. Leaving Salem was right. I--I was sick of my parents running my life like I was some little kid, but I-- I love being with you.

Jade: Well, then why do you always go looking for some reason to be sad, Joey?

Joey: What, I can't care about my parents?

Dirk: In my head

Joey: Just because I can't live with them?

Jade: [Sighs] I get--I get why you like your dad. I mean... he's kind of cool, but...

Dirk: Let it go

Jade: [Chuckles] Your mom--

Joey: My mom has always been there for me between being chief of staff at a hospital and helping my Grandma run her pub, okay? If that isn't cool, then maybe--

Jade: Just chill, Joey, okay?

Dirk: The devil's friend

Jade: Take a pill.

Joey: [Sighs]

Jade: Better yet, share this with me.

Joey: I'm not into that right now, okay? [Sighs]

Dirk: Wow, Joey. Not into sharing a joint. Not into robbing a store. What exactly are you into?

Joey: Get lost. I'm having a private conversation with my girlfriend.

[Dramatic music]

Dirk: Word of advice, Joey. You need to stop acting like a whiny little boy and grow a pair. Otherwise your girl might start looking for a man. [Yelling]

[Intense music]

Simone: Steve, I'd love to trust you, but frankly, you come off like the kind of guy who could lie his way out of a sunburn.

Steve: I am.

Simone: [Chuckles]

Steve: And I have. But this isn't one of those times. I'm telling the truth.

[Dramatic music]

Simone: No. No, you don't want to just talk to your son.

Steve: Well, he's here, right? Otherwise you wouldn't be doing this little dance with me. I want to see him now.

Simone: I'm--look, I'm sorry. You're too late. Joey and jade came through here a couple of days ago, but they left this morning. Heading for the beach, I think. They didn't really like the desert.

Steve: Uh-huh. Well, how is Joe? He seem all right to you?

Simone: Absolutely. You know, Steve, you really should just back off. Joey's heading down his own spiritual path. Let him go.

Steve: Hey. You know, I would never want to interfere with anyone's spiritual path. It's just that he left without saying good-bye, and I want to make sure he's okay. But if you say he is--

Simone: He's--he's fine.

Steve: Great. Okay. I still think I'm gonna try to find him though. I appreciate you talking to me.

Simone: Yes. My pleasure.

Steve: Hey, you know, it's gonna be kind of a long drive to the coast. Do you think you could spare some water?

Simone: Uh--

Steve: Or better yet... do I smell fresh kombucha?

Simone: [Chuckles] Good nose, Steve.

Steve: I'd love some.

Simone: [Chuckles]

Steve: I really would.

Simone: Okay. Let-- let me see if it's ready. And, hey, Steve, why don't you join me in the kitchen?

Steve: All right.

Simone: It's this way.

Steve: Hmm.

Fynn: Looks like Steve got a lead on Joey, eh?

Kayla: Yeah. I mean, I felt like there was something he wasn't telling me.

Fynn: Maybe he didn't want to promise too much. Kayla, you're gonna find Joey. And before you do-- before we go back to Salem-- I want to take you to this little place in Malibu where Daniel and I used to hang out. Best seafood ever. It's right on the water. It's called mama hardy's.

Kayla: Oh, I used to go there when I lived in L.A. It was amazing. It was-- oh, God.

Fynn: Kayla, what? Talk to me.

Kayla: No, I--

Fynn: What's the-- on a scale of one to ten.

Kayla: Like a seven. I--I don't--

Fynn: Look, I'm gonna call the hospital, get us a cab--

Kayla: No, no, no, no, no. It just has to work its way through it. It's happened before.

Fynn: Kayla--

Kayla: No, really, if I thought it was necessary, really, I wouldn't hesitate. I just-- it just has to pass.

Fynn: Now, I've got painkillers in my bag. 750s, but they'll knock you out. Let's see.

Kayla: Sounds pretty inviting right now.

[Both grunting]

[Intense music]

Jade: Joey!

Dirk: [Yelling indistinctly]

Gabi: Guys! Guys, stop! Stop! Stop! Stop. Okay? What's wrong with you? You're both bleeding. Just stop.

Joey: You think I'm just gonna let him run his mouth like that?

Gabi: Joey, stop.

Dirk: You better watch yourself, man!

Joey: You want some more? Come here!

Jade: Joey, stop!

Joey: Get your ass over here!

Gabi: Stop! What is wrong with you? Why would you start a fight like that? Stop!

Joey: You know what? I've had it with this place. Forget waiting another week. I'm out of here.

Gabi: Joey! Just wait.

Simone: Have a seat.

Steve: Thanks.

[Instrumental music]

Steve: [Sighs] I got to tell you, this is the best kombucha I've had since-- well, in a long time.

Simone: Mm. Where were you then?

Steve: Nepal. You know they brew it in vats carved out of rock?

Simone: I do.

Steve: You do?

Simone: Yeah, so you've, um, traveled.

Steve: Yeah, a little bit.

Simone: Mm.

Must be a tough job running a place like this, huh? All kinds of kids showing up from all over. I mean, how do you get your food? This isn't exactly farm country around here.

Simone: [Chuckles] Oh, you know, we do have a small garden. There's always ways to raise money.

Steve: Uh-huh.

Simone: Everyone is required to pitch in.

Steve: Right.

Simone: How close were you-- or are you to your son?

Steve: Well, it's been up and down. He ran away 'cause his mom and I were fighting a lot. She doesn't agree with my lifestyle. She thinks it's a bad example for Joe. I tend to live on the edge. You know, take risks.

Simone: And your wife?

Steve: We're not married anymore. She's pretty much done with me.

Simone: A lonely life.

Steve: Can be.

Simone: I'm sorry. Another cup?

Steve: I'd love one.

Simone: [Chuckles]

Steve: Thanks.

Simone: My pleasure. I'll be right back. Steve: Okay.

Aiden: Uh-huh. Yeah, "diminished capacity" works a little bit better than a straight-out insanity defense, but neither one has much of a track record. Do me a favor. Keep on digging, will you? I need all the help I can get. Thanks.

[Knock on door]

[Phone beeps]

Aiden: [Sighs] Hey, Roman.

Roman: Aiden, this is something I had to do in person. It's chase.

Aiden: What about him?

Roman: He got in a fight in the exercise yard. He was stabbed with a shiv. He's in the hospital. Critical.

Aiden: [Stammering]

Roman: Yeah.

Aiden: Uh...

Roman: Come on, let's go.

[Dramatic music]

[Knocking at door]

[Knocking at door]

Kayla: Steve, what are you-- what are you doing here?

Steve: [Sighs] I found Joe.

Kayla: Oh, great. Is he in the car? I want to talk to him. Is he--

Steve: No, no. He's not there.

[Intense music]

Kayla: Well, where is he? What--

Steve: Kayla...

Kayla: Where?

Steve: I found him, but I was too late.

Kayla: What do you mean? What are you saying? What--wha--

Steve: He's dead. Our boy is dead.

Kayla: What? Wh--no. I--what?

Steve: Come--

Kayla: No. No. [Whimpering] [Exclaiming] No. No, no, no, no, no.

Fynn: Kayla, what's wrong?

Hope: Use video when you read him his rights.

I already know them, bitch.

Hey! Come on.

Hope: Such charm.

[Upbeat electronic music]

Rafe: Well, at least they're both in custody.

Hope: Yeah, and we get to all do the paperwork.

Rafe: I'll handle it. You said you wanted to check with Ciara.

Hope: I do. Thanks. I want to know how her session with Marlena--if it went. She ducked out of her first one.

Rafe: Oh.

Hope: I'll see you later, okay?

Rafe: Yeah. Hey. Want to grab dinner tonight? No pressure. Just be dinner.

Hope: Okay. Thanks. Casual dinner with my partner. Sounds great. Text me the time and place.

Rafe: Will do.

Eduardo: Hey, man!

Aiden: Sorry.

[Dramatic music]

[Phone beeps]

[Instrumental music]

JJ: The commissioner was all over me. Like, I felt like I was gonna get written up or something, but I just felt bad, you know? 'Cause I told Rory that he's gonna be okay, but he's just going down with the other guys.

Gabi: JJ, look, I don't--I don't think you lied to him. I think you just made a mistake. And these guys have been dealing drugs at the high school, right?

JJ: Yeah.

Gabi: Okay, then if anything, roman should be thanking you. The cops wouldn't have the two other guys if it weren't for you.

JJ: Yeah, I know. That part felt kind of good, you know?

Gabi: Yeah.

Like I was a badass cop.

Gabi: Yeah, it was sexy. Very sexy. [Chuckles]

Joey: Pack fast. We're out of here.

Jade: Joey, wait.

Joey: Jade, I'm not messing around. I'm leaving.

Jade: You said you'd give it another week!

Joey: Either come with me or don't.

Jade: [Sighs] Fine. Let me say good-bye to my aunt Simone first.

Joey: Whatever.

Jade: Please?

[Intense music]

Steve: Joe. What happened to your face?

Jade: Run!

Steve: Hey! [Sighs]

[Dramatic music]

Aiden: Hey, um... You can't go in there.

Aiden: [Stammering] That's--Chase--Chase Jennings is his name. I'm his father. That's my ID. Can I--got to see-- I got to see him.

Don't interfere.

Okay.

That's the best we can do. Is the OR prepped?

Yes, prepped, ready, set. I'll get the doors.

Aiden: [Exclaims] He's my son. [Stammering] Please tell me he's gonna make it.

Sir, listen. We're gonna do everything we can.

Aiden: Yes, I know.

He's lost a great deal of blood, okay? But we have him stabilized.

Aiden: Okay.

Okay?

Aiden: Hey, buddy. Hang in there, buddy. I'm here for you, all right? You just fight.

Sir, we have to go.

Aiden: Just fight, buddy! I'll be here!

Hope: Hey, sweetheart. It's Mom. I went to the DiMeras' looking for you, but you weren't there. I wanted to know how your session went with Marlena. Baby, when you get this message, give me a call. All right? Okay. I love you.

[Phone beeps]

[Knocking at door]

Hope: Hey.

Roman: Hey.

Hope: Hi.

Roman: There is, uh... something you need to know.

[Instrumental music]

Gabi: Wow. Helping bust those drug dealers really turned you on, huh?

JJ: Just wait till I write someone a speeding ticket.

Gabi: Come here. [Giggles]

[Knocking on door]

Joey: One sec.

Gabi: Okay.

[Dramatic music]

Kayla: Thank you.

Fynn: You feeling better?

Kayla: Yeah.

Fynn: You know, those opiates can give you terrible nightmares.

Kayla: I dreamed that Joey was dead.

Fynn: You know that's not gonna happen.

It's not gonna happen. Everything's gonna be okay. All right? Believe me. It's gonna be fine.

Kayla: [Sighs] God.

[Door clangs]

[Engine revving]

Steve: Joe!

Aiden: [Sobbing]

[Solemn music]

Hope: Aiden?

Aiden: [Inhales sharply]

Hope: Is he gonna make it?

Aiden: [Sniffles] I don't know.

[Dramatic music]
