Belle: I have to say, as a lawyer, I think you got off pretty easy.

Shawn: As a cop, I agree. That judge could've come down on you guys pretty hard.

Belle: Especially since the car you trashed was a judge's car.

Claire: Yeah, I know, mom.

Shawn: Claire, your mom just wants to make sure it doesn't happen again, all right?

Belle: And community service is like a slap on the wrist. Oh, my gosh. [Laughing] Just take it off. I can tell it's bothering you. Here.

Shawn: [Sighs] There we go.

Belle: That's better. What? Why are you looking at us like that?

Claire: Okay, so for months now, you two have been snarling at each other, and then today at the station, you're all, "what do you think?" "No, what do you think?"

Belle: Uh, because when your child has to go to court, parents, even divorced parents, close ranks.

Shawn: Yeah.

Claire: I've seen you two close ranks, and this was different. You know? You don't touch dad's arm when you're just closing ranks.

Shawn: Wow. How great does it feel to be under the adolescent microscope right now?

Claire: Oh. You two are back together, aren't you?

Belle: [Clears throat]

Claire: Come on, just admit it, you two spent the night together, didn't you?

Lani: You're an angel. Thank you so much.

Everyone says so. Enjoy your night off.

[Telephone ringing]

Rafe: You're switching shifts. You never do that. You have big plans for your night off?

Lani: Oh, yeah, really big.

[Soft music]

[Cell phone beeps]

Ciara: "Hearing went okay. But I can't see you today. I just wanna be alone."

Hope: I've been looking everywhere for you. Honey, I wish you hadn't run off like that.

Ciara: I had to get out of there.

Hope: I get that. I just don't want you to be alone. Ciara, I'm sorry.

Ciara: Mom, you were standing there, talking to Aiden like it was a business deal. I mean, my God, mom, chase and Aiden ruin our lives, and they're getting away with it and it could happen again.

Hope: No, I won't let it.

Ciara: Daddy would've stopped them. Why is dad dead and he's alive?

Hope: I don't know. But, Ciara, I swear, I won't let anything happen to you. I won't.

Ciara: I meant what I said. If chase gets out, I'm gonna hurt him... before he hurts me.

Hope: Honey, I understand why you feel that way. You have me... Roman, Rafe. No one is gonna let chase get near you.

Ciara: Great. Keep him away from me, and he'll do it to some other girl. Mom, he has to stay locked up.

Hope: Please, let me worry about that; let the police take care of chase. I want--Ciara, I want you taking care of yourself. I want you thinking about you. Baby, you need help to sort out the feelings inside of you.

Ciara: Mom, why do you keep bugging me to see a shrink? Okay, chase raped me, and I'm the one that's crazy?

Hope: Ciara, don't run-- please, just don't. You know that's not what I'm saying. You did nothing wrong, Ciara. And a terrible thing still happened to you. Baby, please. Let Marlena at least try to help you. Because God knows what I'm doing it's--it's not helping.

Ciara: Mom, that's not true. It's not true. Fine, just call her.

[Soft piano music]

Hope: Thank you. [Sighs]

[Cell phone ringing]

Marlena: How'd the hearing go?

Hope: Good, um... listen, I'm--I'm standing here with Ciara; I was wondering if the two of you could talk?

Marlena: Of course. I-I'm good around 3:00 today.

Hope: Great. 3:00 it is, then.

Ciara: Mom, no.

Hope: Thank you, Marlena. Honey, you said you would go.

Ciara: I have to take care of Thomas this afternoon.

Hope: You can have Claire watch him; you can ask her.

Ciara: No. He doesn't know her. And I'm the only one that can take care of them, and he'll be upset if I'm not there.

Hope: You said, "them." Are you worried about Thomas or Chad?

Ciara: Why wouldn't I be worried about Chad? He's been through an awful time.

Hope: Or maybe you have a crush on him.

Ciara: [Scoffs] Mom, don't even go there, okay? We're just friends. That's all.

Claire: Guys, it's nothing to be embarrassed about. I mean, I think it's great.

Shawn: And I think that we have been busted, belle.

Belle: Right. Well, uh... yes, your father spent the night because I had a little too much to drink, and--

Claire: Whoa! Okay, no details, please. I'm just really glad that that happened.

Belle: Listen, I-I don't want you to read too much into this or get your hopes up, sweetie.

Claire: Mom, the inevitable happened. You two get really mad at each other, but... you're still and always will be Shawn and belle. And you were completely miserable when you were apart, and now you're not. God, you guys make everything so complicated. [Clears throat] Sorry, uh... I gotta go. Um... okay. You guys are both happy again, so just try not to screw it up, okay? Thanks for lunch.

Shawn: I think that, um... maybe she might be onto something.

Belle: It was one night, Shawn.

Shawn: But what a night.

Belle: I just don't-- I don't think that we should make too much of it, you know? As great as it was, and it was, it doesn't solve any of our problems.

Shawn: Well, I don't-- I don't know if that's true. You and I were finally on the same page in terms of Claire. And you do know what the experts say, right? "Great sex equals great parenting."

Belle: Nobody says that.

Shawn: I know, but, I mean, I think they should.

Belle: [Laughs]

Shawn: The truth is, I... I think that what we're dancing around here is... I'm not sure that we just had sex last night.

Belle: Well, somebody wasn't paying attention, then.

Shawn: I think it was more. I felt a real... a real connection to you again.

Belle: I think I had too much to drink.

Shawn: And you let your guard down. You were vulnerable, and you were beautiful, and you were the belle that I fell in love with all those years ago. And it made me realize just how much I love and I miss her.

Belle: Great. So you're saying the only way you wanna be with me is if I'm some...frail, vulnerable woman?

Shawn: No, no, no, no. I'm--I'm saying that... that the girl that I fell in love with was honest and-- and real.

Belle: As opposed to now?

Shawn: Okay, oh, man, I... okay, I'm not... I'm not a lawyer. I--so I don't always say the right things. But I do know that what happened between us in Maine, it... it wasn't just your fault. But ever since we came back here, you've-- I don't know--you've been a different--different belle. I mean, you've been toying around with Philip. You've been--you've been spending money like crazy. You've been indulging Claire's fantasies--

Belle: That's not true. That's not true.

Shawn: Come on. Claire's even called you out on it. I mean, I don't know. I don't know if you just were trying to get back what you and Philip had all those years ago, or you were just... you were just looking for an escape, but... you've got to start being honest with yourself. When push comes to shove, Philip will always be the self-absorbed Kiriakis that he's always been. Belle, he's always going to put himself before you. Right. Now you're mad.

Belle: No. You're right. I've been thinking that very same thing.

Claire: Oh, Theo, hi.

Theo: Hey. You were at court today, right?

Claire: Yeah, but it wasn't bad; we just have to do some community service.

Theo: Oh, good.

Claire: Didn't Ciara tell you about it?

Theo: No, I haven't talked to her. She texted me, though, and said she wants to be alone.

Claire: Strange. Yeah, she just texted me too-- asked me if I could watch Thomas. Um, maybe she just has something to do.

Theo: Yeah, I hope that's it, but I don't think it is.

[Knocking at door]

Rafe: Yeah.

Hope: Busy?

Rafe: Just trying to help Steve find Joey and his girlfriend.

Hope: All right, well, I'll let you get back to work.

Rafe: Get back here. Get in here. Close the door. Everything okay?

Hope: I, shockingly, have some good news.

Rafe: Tell me.

Hope: The judge was easy on the kids--community service.

Rafe: Well, that's good.

Hope: And there's more. Um, I finally convinced Ciara to have a session with Marlena.

Rafe: And how'd you do that?

Hope: I don't know. Probably just wore her down.

Rafe: Huh. You don't think it has anything to do with Aiden being back?

Hope: Probably. She's scared to death that he's gonna get chase cleared.

Rafe: Well, that's not gonna happen. Chase admitted what he did to her.

Hope: You know, I think Aiden is finally starting to realize that it really happened.

Rafe: So you talked to him again?

Hope: Yeah, I-- I had to. For Ciara's sake. I told him that if he loves me as much as he claims he does, then he would not do anything to hurt Ciara.

Rafe: He heard you?

Hope: I don't know. I hope so.

Aiden: How you doing? Yeah. Okay, uh, look. I get that it's unavailable. But what I need from you is to make it available. Because it will help me with my case. That's why. How can this have been washed 12 weeks ago and still smell

Ciara: So here's the baby monitor. Um, I put a bottle in the fridge and I just put him down for his nap, so he'll probably be asleep until I get back.

Claire: Okay, where's his dad?

Ciara: Uh, he went to see Abigail.

Claire: How's she doing?

Ciara: The same.

Claire: Wow. Keep your phone on, okay? In case I have any questions.

Ciara: Oh, yeah, sure.

Claire: Mind if I ask where you're going?

Ciara: I... have an appointment with your Grandma.

Ciara: Oh, like a session? About the rape?

Ciara: My mom's been wanting me to go since it happened. I just didn't wanna talk about it.

Claire: What changed your mind?

Ciara: Now that chase's dad is back in town, I'm afraid that he's gonna do whatever it takes to get him our of prison. And my mom said that talking to Marlena will help me figure out how to deal with it. So I caved and she made an appointment.

Claire: God, but how could that Aiden guy do that to you? I mean, it's not like his son is innocent.

Ciara: Yeah, but at least now I realize that I can't just make it go away.

Claire: Yeah, right. So, since you're so stressed that chase might get out, is that why you've been staying away from Theo?

Callie: Mr. Kiriakis? Sorry I'm late.

Philip: Actually, your timing could not be better.

Shawn: Thanks for walking me back.

Belle: Well, I'm not really walking you back. I'm actually meeting with the D.A. About a case.

Shawn: Important one?

Belle: They're all important. Thanks for lunch.

Shawn: How about dinner?

Belle: Shawn--

Shawn: Come on. Barbecue. Barbecue. We'll do something casual. Yes or no?

Belle: What about Lani?

Shawn: I'll take care of it.

Belle: Are you sure? Last time I saw you together, it looked pretty serious.

Shawn: Well, it could turn into something... unless I have another chance with you.

Belle: And that's what you want? A chance?

Shawn: To start over? Do things right this time? Yeah. I do. I want that more than anything.

Belle: Okay. I'll think about it.

Shawn: Bye.

Philip: I was just going over your résumé. You have a lot or marketing experience for somebody so young.

Callie: And most of it is in the music business.

Philip: There's a very sexy look to most of the ad campaigns you put together. I guess that comes naturally to you. I hope you can bring that same vibe to my company.

Callie: Are you offering me a job?

Philip: How about we talk about it over lunch? Or, better yet, dinner?

Callie: Well... [Clears throat] You have my information, Mr. Kiriakis, and the job opening sounds very interesting. I also like your ideas on how to promote your artists, but, uh... all I'm looking for is a job.

Philip: I'm--I'm sorry if you misunderstood my intentions.

Callie: I'm hoping I didn't.

Belle: That's your idea of lunch?

Philip: Tomato juice? Celery? Straw? That's a lot of basic food groups there.

Belle: [Laughing] What about the preservative?

Philip: I'm in the music business now; I have to project a certain image.

Belle: Cut the crap. I can tell something's bothering you. What is it?

Philip: I'm busy; there's a lot on my plate right now.

Belle: Mm. Should I be worried about that?

Philip: No. But I got a lot to do, so...[Sighs] Why don't you say whatever it is you wanna say and let me get to it?

Ciara: I'm not staying away from Theo. I just texted him.

Claire: Right, but you didn't say that you had an appointment. You told him that you wanted to be alone.

Ciara: That's before I knew I was going.

Claire: But, uh... Ciara, just tell him that it was about chase, and he'll understand. But it wasn't about chase. Was it? You just really don't wanna see Theo.

Ciara: Look, everyone knows how much I like Theo. It's--it's just...

Claire: Just that he's not exciting enough.

Ciara: I wish it were that simple.

Claire: Okay, so it's complicated. Just talk to me, tell me why. I mean, what do you really want, Ciara?

Ciara: I don't know what I want, okay? I just know that I... don't wanna hurt him.

Claire: Okay, then you should tell him how you feel, before you do hurt him. Badly.

Rafe: Look, I get that you'll do anything to protect Ciara, but talking to Aiden like that about how much the guy loves you?

Hope: I don't know any other way of getting through to him.

Rafe: Well, did you?

Hope: I don't know.

Rafe: 'Cause I think that the guy's playing you and the situation. Sorry, that... was out of line.

Hope: No. I know you don't trust him.

Rafe: No, I don't trust him. Of course I don't trust him. He worked for Clyde Weston and Stefano DiMera.

Hope: Well, I don't trust him either-- Rafe, my daughter is hanging on by a thread. If chase is set free, that thread snaps. Just like that. So yes, I used the fact that Aiden loves me. Do I like it? No. I don't. What choice do I have, though?

Rafe: Stefano DiMera was a lot of things, but one thing he wasn't was stupid. He sized up Aiden. He saw something in him. He saw he was weak, corrupt, amoral, and I don't think a few months in a cage changed that.

Aiden: It's ready for me? Great. I'll be there as soon as I can.

Belle: Well, sorry to interrupt your, uh, lunch.

Philip: Okay, belle, don't go. I'm sorry I acted like a jerk. Tell me what happened with Claire. I left you a message.

Belle: I know. I got it. Uh, she's fine. Luckily, the judge was pretty lenient.

Philip: That's great. I'm glad things seem to be working out for you... and that you and Shawn are moving in the right direction.

Belle: What? What made you say that?

Philip: I know you. I know when you're happy, and you are. And I know it has nothing to do with me. So my feeling is that you took my advice to see if there was still life in your relationship with Shawn.

Belle: "Life in my relationship with Shawn." You know, when you talk like that, I know you're making fun of me.

Philip: It doesn't matter how I phrase it. I'm right about you and Shawn, aren't I?

Belle: Let's just say I... I always take your advice.

Philip: You know, don't you, that I really do want you to be happy?

Belle: I do know that. Thank you.

Ciara: Yeah, and when they let chase out on bail... I ran into him. I thought I was getting stronger. But, just like that, it felt like he was on top of me. And I was just helpless.

Marlena: That's a terrible feeling.

Ciara: I'm always mad at my mom, at my friends, at everyone. I feel like if I stop being mad, that I'm just gonna start crying and I'm not gonna be able to stop.

Marlena: Go on.

Ciara: I don't think I can handle it, when they let chase out.

Marlena: First of all, it's not when they let him out. It's if they let him out. And I'm not sure that his father can do anything about that sentencing. But, Ciara, if he gets out, what are you afraid of? Are you afraid that he'll hurt you again?

Ciara: No. That I'll hurt him.

Marlena: Could you do that?

Ciara: I don't think anyone knows how angry I am. And not just at chase. At myself. Because I knew that he had a dark side, and I liked it. Which makes me think that I probably do too, which is why I can't be with anyone like Theo. Maybe I can never get serious with any normal guy.

Hope: Rafe, I'm not naive. Hey. I agree with everything that you're saying.

Rafe: Yeah, I know you do. I know. I just hate that you have to deal with the guy after everything that he put you through.

Hope: I hate it too. But, like I said, what choice do I have? Hey, lighten up. Are you hungry?

Rafe: Why?

Hope: Larry? Thank you. I ordered lunch for us. Two double cheeseburgers and French fries.

Rafe: Well, it would be a shame to let them go to waste.

Hope: Mm-hmm, it would. Uh, under one condition. We stop talking about Aiden.

Rafe: That's bribery.

Hope: Mm-hmm.

Rafe: But it worked. What?

Theo: Hi.

Claire: Theo, hi.

Theo: Uh, where'd Ciara go?

Claire: Uh, she didn't say. She just told me it was important. You came here to get some answers from her, didn't you?

Theo: Yeah. I-I do not get her. I don't get her. Today she doesn't wanna see me. Tomorrow she could text me and say, "hey, let's hang out."

Claire: That's how it's been going?

Theo: Yeah. I mean, once she let me spend the whole night with her.

Claire: Excuse me?

Theo: We fell asleep in her bed.

Claire: Her bed?

Theo: Nothing happened. You know, but... I was just so happy, and then she started acting weird again.

Claire: Yeah. It's because of what chase did.

Theo: I know, but I don't think it's just because of that.

Claire: I mean... maybe she feels like she just needs to...take care of herself right now. You know? Try not to get your feelings hurt...

Theo: If what?

Claire: If all Ciara wants to be right now is just friends.

Ciara: I feel like if I was older, I could've stopped him. And older guy wouldn't have been so desperate.

Marlena: And then you would've felt safer?

Ciara: Yeah, and feel like I could talk about what happened to me without him freaking out. I mean, not that I'm looking to get involved with anyone right now.

Marlena: But you will, eventually.

Ciara: I guess I will. But the strange thing is that... even after everything that's happened with chase, I just... I can only picture myself being with someone that's unpredictable.

Marlena: Unpredictable? You mean, like your father?

Ciara: Is that creepy?

Marlena: No, no, not at all. Bo Brady had a deep appreciation for strong women. And yet, he lived his own life. He was such a wonderful man.

Ciara: Yeah, but now he's gone. Maybe that's what scares me. That I'll find someone that I love, and then I'll lose him.

Belle: Oh. I'm sorry. I didn't know you had company.

Marlena: It's all right. I think we made a very good beginning.

Ciara: Thank you for everything. It's nice seeing you, belle.

Belle: You too. Was that a session?

Marlena: Well, yes, it was.

Belle: Sorry, if I would've known, I would've...

Marlena: No, no. It's okay.

Belle: [Sighing] Well, the kids got off with a light sentence.

Marlena: Ciara told me.

Belle: Yeah. Community service, thank God.

Marlena: I think the judge realized they're good kids that did something really stupid.

Belle: Yeah. Well, Shawn and I have really been trying to impress upon her that she can't do anything this stupid again. I don't know if it...sunk in.

Marlena: Why do you say that?

Belle: I don't know. She has this idea in her head that nothing can touch her. It's just like, she thinks she can get away with anything.

Marlena: I don't know what motivated her to get involved in that. Maybe she was trying to punish the kids that hurt her friends.

Belle: That's what she said.

Marlena: Well... her life's been torn apart lately.

Belle: You mean because I had an affair, brought her here, and divorced her father?

Marlena: That's what I mean.

Rafe: When was the last time you had a burger for lunch?

Hope: I have burgers for lunch all the time.

Rafe: Oh, all the time, huh? If by, "all the time," you mean, "never."

Hope: Okay. I was trying to make it up to you.

Rafe: Oh, yeah? Why is that?

Hope: For things... getting so complicated between us. With Aiden showing up.

Rafe: No. It's not your fault he came back.

Hope: No, it's not. But I still have to deal with him. I know it's not easy for you. I just... I want you to know how much I care.

[Steps approaching]

Aiden: I hope I'm not interrupting.

[Pop music playing]

Another drink?

Philip: Why not?

Bad day?

Philip: Yeah.

But it just got a whole lot better.

Belle: Well, it's funny you should bring up my divorce, because I've been giving that a lot of thought.

Marlena: Have you? And what does that mean?

[Cell phone beeps]

Marlena: Oh. Sorry. [Sighs] I got to return this. Hold that thought. Hold the thought, okay?

Belle: It's fine. Go. Hey. Did I reach you at a bad time?

Shawn: No. How you doing?

Belle: Oh, I'm--I'm fine. I, uh... was thinking maybe we could have dinner.

Shawn: That's great. Yeah, I... do you want me to pick you up around 7:00? All right, see you then.

Lani: Sounds like you have other plans tonight.

Shawn: I was... just coming to find you.

Lani: Here I am.

Shawn: Well, I'm... I'm grabbing dinner with belle tonight.

Lani: So should I assume that this means you and belle are gonna give the marriage another try?

Shawn: I don't-- I mean, I don't know. I don't know exactly what it means.

Lani: But that's what you want it to mean, right?

Shawn: Okay, I'm just trying to be up front with you.

Lani: No worries. I didn't take us seriously. We had fun for a while. I hope everything works out for you.

Shawn: You're being awfully decent about this.

Lani: Well, what other way is there to be?

Ciara: Hi.

Theo: Hey. Um, I just-- I came to see Thomas.

Claire: How'd your appointment go?

Ciara: It was good. Thanks for covering for me.

Claire: Okay, well, now that you're back, I think I'll head out, unless you want me to stay and watch Thomas for a while, so you and Theo can talk.

Ciara: Did he wake up?

Claire: No, do you want me to go check on him?

Ciara: Yeah, if you would. Thanks.

Theo: So, uh... you think I came to see you, right? You think I'm being too pushy?

Ciara: No. I actually think I've been... kind of a bitch to you.

Theo: No, that's--

Ciara: Yes. Yes. Theo, the thing is... look, I know... I know how you feel about me. And I just... I don't think I'm ready for that right now. I hope you understand. Look, you--you and I have been best friends forever. You--hey, you were the first friend I ever made.

Theo: Yeah. So we're just friends now?

Ciara: Theo, you're just not what I'm looking for.

Theo: [Sighs] You don't even know what you're looking for.

Claire: Uh... I just came to tell you that Thomas is still sleeping, so I'll take off.

Theo: No, you don't have to go. You don't have to go.

Ciara: Man...

Claire: Did you talk to him?

Ciara: Yeah. You said I should.

Claire: I know. I know, yeah, and I get why you're doing what you're doing. Just know that you're breaking his heart.

Hope: What do you want?

Aiden: I was just thinking about our conversation, and, look, the last thing I want to do is add to what you and Ciara are already dealing with. And I thought maybe you and I could talk about it over lunch.

Rafe: We just ate.

Aiden: I see that now. Okay, uh, sorry for interrupting.

Rafe: You know what that was all about, don't you? That was him letting you know that he is not giving up on you.
