Rafe: Hey. Glad you picked up. I've got good news.
Hope: Is it about Gabi and Ari? Are they okay?
Rafe: Yup. They're keeping them in the hospital overnight for observation, but I think it's just a precaution. They're coming home tomorrow.
Hope: Oh, my gosh. Rafe, that is wonderful. That's such great news. I know how worried you were-- actually, how worried we all were.
Rafe: Yeah. So how are you holding up? You want me to come over?
Hope: I'm okay. Made it through the day. But I'm pretty wiped out.
Rafe: Oh, yeah? Pretty wiped out too. Think we could both use a good night's sleep.
Hope: Amen to that.
Rafe: I'll miss you, though.
Hope: And vice versa.
Rafe: Okay. So I'll be seeing you... whenever's good for you.
Hope: Tomorrow? How about tomorrow? Maybe after I get a good night's sleep, I'll feel more like a human being.
Rafe: Right. Well, you take care of yourself.
Hope: You too. Good night.
Rafe: Good night.
Hope: Thank you... for everything.
Rafe: You get a good night's sleep. I'll see you tomorrow.
Aiden: I don't know how long I will be staying.
Julie: I do. You get out of here. You get out of here right now.
Aiden: Julie, hello.
Julie: Christopher, call the police. Call the police and tell them the man who tried to murder my sister is alive and has shown up here!
Aiden: Look, they already know that I'm back. I already spoke with Rafe, roman, and hope at the station house. They let me go because there-- they had nothing to hold me on. Julie, it's been a horrible misunderstanding.
Julie: Misunderstanding, my ass! You take one move, and I-- I swear to God, I will perform a medical procedure on you with this stupid letter opener!
Justin: I just heard from Deimos. He wants to meet.
Victor: Did he say why?
Justin: Just that he's made a decision about my offer. I do know he's not gonna take me or the offer at face value, so I'm prepared to be tested in some way.
Victor: Well, good luck with that. Last person that man tested was Helena 30 years ago.
Nicole: "I'm going to at least one meeting a day, and I've been clean and sober for 30 days. Maybe not a huge accomplishment, but one day at a time. I like to think that Daniel would be proud of me. I miss him every day. I will never stop being guilty for taking him away from you. I will try to atone, even though I know I never can. Eric."
Maggie: Um, Lynda, could-- could we have a rain check? I mean, you know, we'll have our coffee after the next meeting? There's a lady over there I need to talk to.
Lynda: Girl, is there anyone in this town you don't know?
[Both laugh] See you tomorrow?
Maggie: You bet.
Maggie: Have a good one.
Lynda: Take care.
Maggie: Honey, what is it?
Nicole: It's Daniel. I miss him so much, Maggie, sometimes I-- sometimes I can't even breathe.
Maggie: Yeah. Yeah, I know.
Nicole: And you, look at you. What-- I mean, what happened to you is unfair. It is terribly unfair. Damn Deimos for what he did to you.
Deimos: Wow. This is nice.
Kate: I'm glad you like it.
Deimos: I like that too.
Kate: Hmm. I am full of good ideas tonight. This ain't nothing.
Deimos: Oh, so there's more?
Kate: There is more. And after this, our champagne and our dinner, then together, the two of us...
Deimos: Could retire upstairs?
Kate: Can go to Vegas and get married.
Aiden: Julie, I'm not here to hurt anyone.
Christopher: Shall I call the police, Mrs. Williams?
Aiden: Please, no! Again, I'm sorry. I didn't know you were gonna be here. I'm just looking for a place to stay.
Julie: Well, you can't stay here!
Roman: Julie! I tried to get here in time to tell you about this. This is Aiden. Turns out he wasn't the one who attacked hope.
Roman: I know it's hard to believe, but we got proof, DNA evidence. The DiMeras came up with someone who looked just like Aiden. He's the one who went after hope.
Aiden: Julie, they had me locked up. There was nothing I could do. I am so sorry that I frightened you. I just-- I just need a place to stay, that's all.
Julie: Well, try the Salem inn. Or how about the plaza in new York? Perhaps the Lisbon Ritz?
Aiden: The Salem inn is booked, and I need to stay here in town. There are still a lot of questions that need to be answered.
Roman: Julie, we need him right here where we can keep tabs on him. Look, hope knows he's in Salem. I think you should give him a room.
Julie: Fine. Fine! Oh, please--please, stay here. And then I can keep tabs on you too. And if you so much as look at my sister--
Aiden: I know. I know. I know. But you have nothing to worry about.
Julie: We'll see about that.
Maggie: You know what I hate about this chair? It invokes sympathy... and pity sometimes.
Nicole: Not your cup of tea.
Maggie: Ugh, pity doesn't help anything. What helps... is looking at the big picture. Victor and I are alive, and we have each other to love. I've been through nothing compared to what happened to you.
Nicole: Isn't that pity?
Maggie: [Chuckles] It's different when I do it.
Nicole: I lost Daniel. Deimos stole from you. If tomorrow, someone gave you back what Deimos took, wouldn't you accept it? Wouldn't you feel like justice has been served?
Maggie: Nicole, it's not up to us to decide what is justice. Maybe God has another plan for Victor and me.
Nicole: Maybe God needs a little help from your friends.
Maggie: Nicole, I don't want anyone, especially someone that I love--you-- risking that man's wrath.
Justin: I know Deimos is gonna test me, but I'm also sure I can handle whatever he throws at me.
Victor: Yeah, that's what I thought... till he started poisoning Maggie.
Justin: You didn't know how low he would go. I do.
Victor: Well, just do what you have to do.
Justin: I know this never works, but I am gonna ask you a personal question. How are you doing?
Justin: There's always a first time.
Victor: Not too good. I know people have depressions after having a heart attack, and I've been fighting that, but with Maggie in that damn chair... you know, this really should have been a good time for us. We were gonna travel. I was gonna take her and show her the Parthenon. You know how many steps there are to the Parthenon?
Justin: Quite a few, if I remember.
Victor: Yeah. And if a heart attack and paralysis aren't enough for you, we've got baby girl summer in the guest room. Just what we need, welcoming a bipolar con artist into the family. Well, at least we don't have to worry about locking the safe because we don't have anything worth stealing.
Justin: So you're fighting your depression with anger and frustration.
Victor: Just watch it.
Justin: You know, Vic, I love you. You know that. And so does Maggie. The two of you being happy means a hell of a lot more than getting your revenge on Deimos.
Victor: We won't be happy until we get our revenge on him.
Justin: I don't think you need to worry about your depression. I think you need to worry about being really stupid.
Deimos: [Coughs] Excuse me. Mm. Ah. Are you playing me?
Kate: Deimos, you know I'm always deadly serious.
Deimos: Really? Marriage, Kate? We barely know each other in anything but the biblical sense.
Kate: Well, I know that you're cunning and ruthless and you don't snore. What more could I ask for in a husband?
Deimos: And why would you want a husband in the first place? With all your divorces, I would think that you would be somewhat gun-shy.
Kate: Well, most of those previous marriages were economically motivated. This time, I'm marrying for love.
Deimos: That's a good one.
Kate: Come on. Come on. You know we are just alike. If we had souls, we would be soul mates. And you know what else we are?
Kate: Spontaneous. So I think we should seize the moment and get on that ill-gotten private jet of yours, fly to Vegas, and tie the knot.
[Jazzy music playing]
Hope: [Laughs] What are you doing?
Hope: Oh, my gosh.
Hope: I can't tell you how much I needed a night like this.
Rafe: Oh. Hi.
Eduardo: Hi. Hope you don't mind. I kind of let myself in.
Rafe: I see that.
Eduardo: Yeah, I was with your mom at the hospital, and... she's worried about you. She said you were upset about something.
Rafe: Well, my sister and my niece were deathly ill. Yeah, of course I was upset.
Eduardo: She seems to think there's something else.
Rafe: Well, she always thinks there's something else. I'm gonna heat up some leftovers. You want something?
Eduardo: No, I'm good.
Eduardo: Yeah. I'm good at listening, if you ever want to talk. I have been known to dispense a lot of useless free advice whenever... anyway, I'll tell your mom that you're fine.
Eduardo: Well what?
Rafe: Well, Dario thinks that you got off easy.
Eduardo: Well, Dario's right.
Rafe: Well, I said I didn't think taking a bullet that was meant for me is getting off easy, so...
Eduardo: Thank you.
Eduardo: A split-second decision doesn't make up for 30 years of neglect. It doesn't instantly turn you into family.
Eduardo: Truth is, I'm-- I'm still a stranger to you guys.
Rafe: Pretty much.
Eduardo: Yeah. Of course, even strangers can be useful. You could think of me as the guy on the next barstool with nowhere to be and... wide-open mind. So what seems to be the problem?
Rafe: A woman.
Eduardo: Why is that not a surprise?
Hope: [Sighs] Yeah, they made the switch right after the proposal, Julie.
Julie: I don't understand. Why would Stefano or André do such a thing?
Hope: Because Aiden refused to go along with their plan to kill me.
Julie: Do you want me to come over, baby?
Hope: No, I'm just-- actually, I'm pretty exhausted. I just think I need some time alone to try to figure things out.
Julie: Well, roman said that, well, whoever this character is--
Hope: No, it really is Aiden.
Julie: Roman said that he needs him to stay in Salem because he has all of these unanswered questions.
Hope: That's true.
Julie: Well, you know, I don't give a damn about roman's unanswered questions. And if you want this guy run out of town, I'll do it myself.
Hope: Yeah, I'm sure that you would. But I think-- I think Aiden should stay. If we run him out of town, as you so nicely put it, then I may never figure everything out. Julie, the past is staring me in the face whether I like it not, and I need to deal with that.
Victor: You know, you're skating on thin ice.
Justin: I don't care if I make you mad. I need to make you think. You want to travel with Maggie, then travel, damn it. You think the Parthenon doesn't have ramps? You think the only way to get to Greece is on your own private jet? You think if your net worth doesn't rival a small country's, what, you're broke? Come on. Show Maggie the Parthenon, and then take her to one of those beautiful Greek islands. Get a place on the water and live a quiet, happy life together.
Justin: I love how you carefully consider what I always have to say.
Victor: It's no for two reasons. First of all, Salem is Maggie's home. Her family is here, her 9 million friends. And secondly, I think you're just trying to get rid of me.
Justin: I'm trying to save your life.
Deimos: And how do you like that? You propose marriage, and bells start ringing.
Kate: Adams will get rid of them. I told him we wanted our privacy tonight.
Deimos: Of course, you did. You're about to go in for the kill. Oh, I'm sorry. You were going to pop the question.
Kate: I told you no visitors.
Deimos: And I told Adams that Nicole was welcome anytime day or night.
Nicole: Looks like you're celebrating. Could you get me a glass? You seem to only have two.
Kate: Could you show ms. Walker to the door?
Nicole: What's the occasion?
Deimos: Nicole, you're not gonna believe what just happened. Lovely Kate just asked me to marry her.
Aiden: I love you more than anyone. And I want to live the rest of my life with you. I know I'm asking a lot, but we can take this as slowly as you like. I will prove to you that you can trust me, and I will not let you down. Please, just give me a chance. Please, say yes. Yes.
Chase: Hey, dad. Here we are again, home, sweet home.
Ciara: No! No!
[Knocking at door]
Shawn: Mom. Hello.
Hey, are you all right?
Rafe: Of course hope loved Aiden at one time. She was gonna marry the guy.
Eduardo: Yeah, then. But now she knows that he was in league with the DiMeras.
Rafe: Well, right, of course. So it seems like a pretty black-and-white situation. At least it does to me. Maybe not to her. There's nothing I can do about it, though. I can't push her. I can't. I can't do a damn thing. I just got to let this son of a--
Eduardo: That's true. You can't do a damn thing. You got to let him do whatever you're gonna do. You got to trust that she's gonna figure it out, 'cause if you push--
Rafe: If I push, I can push her away, right?
Rafe: So I can't. I can't push her. I just got to give her space, which might kill me. It just might.
Victor: Of course, everything you do is for my own good.
Justin: God, you're tiresome.
Victor: You know what's tiresome? You warning me off Deimos when you're going full speed ahead with your own stealth mission.
Justin: Wow. Now, why would I do that when you had the brilliant idea of sending Nicole, a woman who's never been tightly wrapped but now is in mourning, to seduce your little brother, a man who is more than capable if poisoning people?
Victor: Talk about a 180. When I first presented my brilliant idea to you, you were all for it.
Justin: Yes, because like you, I was all about restoring the Kiriakis empire to our family, and I was too damn angry to see straight. But now I've had time to think about it. And I realize you are putting all your faith in Nicole. That doesn't scare the hell out of you?
Victor: I'll take the risk.
Nicole: So what did you say to the proposal, Deimos? Did Kate sweep you off your feet?
Kate: Surely, you can grasp that this is none of your business.
Deimos: Actually, you came in before I could answer the question. But for your information... I'm seriously considering it.
Shawn: Oh, I can't believe you have to go through all this.
Hope: You don't know what Aiden's been through.
Shawn: Look, I don't give a damn what he's been through. I-- look, I'm sorry. That probably doesn't help you, does it? Kind of like when I first found out about him.
Hope: [Sighs] You thought I was betraying your dad.
Shawn: No, I just-- yeah, I did. But I guess you could say that was the seven-year-old kid in me that thought that. I mean, all kids, they-- they want to get their parents to get back together, don't they? I know Claire does.
Hope: How was I wrong about so many things? Things that I thought were true were not true. But it was very true that I loved Aiden. I married him, and I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.
Shawn: Do you know how you feel now? Have you decided what you're gonna do?
Aiden: It was just a noise. You're safe.
Victor: Nicole is a street fighter. She knows what Deimos is capable of. She'll protect herself.
Justin: Mm-hmm, maybe at your expense.
Victor: Well, like I told you, I'll take the risk.
Justin: Why put yourself through this? Go away. Be happy with Maggie. You've both earned a little peace.
Victor: I think you should go. You don't want to be late for your meeting with Deimos.
Deimos: And what made you decide to stop by?
Nicole: Oh, well, I was doing some fabric shopping, and I found this Greek print that I just fell in love with. Can you--can you tell me what this text means? [Chuckles]
Deimos: Hmm. It's a quote from Aristotle. "Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies."
Nicole: Wow, that's beautiful. I feel like I have so much to learn from you.
Deimos: Oh, I think I could learn a thing or two from you as well.
Deimos: And now, as happy as I am that you stopped by, Kate and I were in the middle of an important conversation.
Nicole: I know. Best of luck to you, Kate. And to you. You're gonna need it.
Rafe: So my feeling is, this time, maybe I don't go with my gut.
Eduardo: Because your gut is telling you to beat the crap out of the guy, right?
Rafe: Something like that.
Eduardo: Hope might not appreciate that.
Rafe: No. No, I got to let her figure this one out for herself. I hate that.
Eduardo: So are you sure you don't buy the guy's story?
Rafe: Well, I got to accept the fact that it's Aiden's DNA. But no, I don't like the guy's story. I don't like his vibe. And I don't think that he just came back to atone.
Eduardo: So, what, you think he's still after her money?
Rafe: Why didn't he call? Why didn't he write? He simply shows up, and he shows up at her house, the house that she was nearly killed at. You know why? Because he wanted her freaked out. He doesn't want her thinking straight.
Eduardo: So you got to keep digging. You got to find out why his story seems off. You got to find what you need to nail the guy. But until you got something concrete...
Rafe: Don't tell hope.
Hope: Here's what I do know: Aiden coming back is going to have a huge effect on everyone that I love. I mean, look at you. You're worried sick about me. Julie's beside herself. Rafe, he's like a bomb waiting to go off. And all of that is nothing compared to what this could do to Ciara.
Hope: It just hangs over both of us that I invited chase into our home, into our lives.
Shawn: What chase did to Ciara is not your fault. You tried to do a good thing. You tried to help a kid who had basically lost everything. But the fact is, it was too little, too late.
Hope: I just don't understand. Chase, he was a good kid. And Aiden, he was a good father.
Shawn: Really? Was he, or did-- did it just look that way?
Hope: Touché. I need to figure this out myself, Shawn.
Shawn: Look, I know. I know that it doesn't matter how I feel about this guy. But I don't want another bad thing to happen to you. And I can't stand the fact that Aiden comes back into your life and he puts you in this situation. But-- but I know this is your decision.
Aiden: Aah! Ah! [Sighs]
Victor: So how was your meeting?
Maggie: Good. I needed it.
Victor: You look tired. I'll take you home.
Maggie: No, I just ordered a cappuccino. Join me?
Victor: Is it my imagination, or are you not too anxious to get home? If you can call that place home.
Maggie: If I'm with you, I'm home. And I'm just enjoying the nice night.
Victor: You mean that? If you're with me, you're home?
Maggie: Of course, I mean it.
Victor: Well, if this is a nice night, the nights in Santorini are exquisite... the moon over the Aegean.
Maggie: Hmm. Must be beautiful.
Victor: You ever think of leaving Salem?
Victor: You know, just pull up stakes, go somewhere else... for good.
Justin: Nicole. What's wrong now?
Kate: Now, I get that you want to play Nicole and me against each other because you think it gives you the upper hand, but it doesn't. I've been around too long to fall for that.
Deimos: So you think I'm playing games.
Kate: I know you are.
Deimos: Hmm. You come here with champagne and candles and marriage proposals and you accuse me of playing a game? That proposal wasn't real. It was a test.
Kate: Maybe it was both. I'm going to ask you an important question, and depending on how you answer it, I will either talk to you later, when I'm more calm, or I'll leave here, permanently.
Deimos: All right. Go for it.
Kate: Are you wasting my time? My belly pain and constipation?
Rafe: Well, you were right about one thing. You're a good listener.
Eduardo: [Chuckles] It's a way to get free beer.
Eduardo: When I hear you describe hope, I picture a woman who's genuinely struggling to do the right thing.
Rafe: That's hope.
Hope: May I ask you something? Would you be upset if... I gave Aiden the opportunity to prove himself?
Shawn: It's not my decision.
Hope: That wasn't the question. Would you be upset?
Shawn: I would be-- I'd be concerned.
Hope: With good reason.
Shawn: Look, I just hope that you would-- you'd proceed with caution, that you would take things very, very slowly.
Hope: I have to be careful. I know that.
Nicole: There's no problem. Why should there be?
Justin: You're right. What could possibly go wrong hanging out with a guy like Deimos? Maggie is awfully glad she made his acquaintance.
Nicole: Well, unlike Maggie, I know exactly who I'm dealing with. Obviously you came here to spy on me to report back to Victor to tell him that I'm totally on top of the situation. Well, you can also tell him that I will not be made a fool of, no matter how many plans he comes up with. Tell him it is time to back off.
Justin: So you think he has other plans.
Nicole: I know it, just like I know you didn't come here to sell cosmetics.
Justin: Hmm. So I can't interest you in some eyeliner?
Nicole: It's not funny.
Nicole: If you or Victor do anything to mess what I've put in motion, you'll regret it. Do not underestimate what I am capable of.
Maggie: I'd go anywhere with you, wherever you want to go. But why are we talking about this now? Did something else happen with Deimos?
Victor: No, no, no. It's just a hypothetical question.
Maggie: Well, Victor, I meant what I said. I'd go anywhere with you, "go" as in moving forward. But I'll never help you run away. The day you run away is the day that you stop being Victor Kiriakis.
Victor: I knew there was a reason I married you.
Maggie: We may be down, but we're not out.
Victor: Don't you just love Salem? Isn't it just the best town in the whole damn world?
Deimos: I don't like ultimatums.
Kate: I don't care. I want to know if you're serious about this, or is it something you're just doing to prove something to yourself or to Nicole or to Victor? Because if that's what it is, then I'm out.
Deimos: Are you finished? Because if I can get a word in edgewise, I'd like to answer your question.
Kate: And which question would that be?
Deimos: The only one that's important, the one about tying the knot. The answer is... yes.
Deimos: Yes. Let's do it. Let's get married.
