John: Hey. Hey, sweetheart...
John: I'm so sorry that we are late...
Marlena: Mm, there you are.
John: But, my son and I, we were just kind of planning out our trip.
Marlena: Your trip?
John: Mm-hmm. You want to tell her, or should I?
Paul: Go for it.
John: All right. We're gonna start at Wrigley field and then we're gonna go to pnc park. Head to the east coast, start at Camden yards, citi field... saving the best for last, Fenway.
Marlena: What are you talking about?
John: I am talking about my son, the big league pitcher, is gonna take me on a tour of the favorite ballparks he pitched in on the east coast. Which, of course, now are my favorite ballparks also.
Paul: [Laughs] Well, I offered to try and get us VIP tickets, but he didn't want to have any part of that.
John: Hell, no. I want to be right there in the stands with the passionate fans. Especially when we get to the "green monster."
Marlena: Wow. That sounds like so much fun.
John: Yeah. Something wrong?
[Soft dramatic music]
Dario: Got your message.
Rafe: Yeah, well, thanks a lot for coming by. Sorry, I just--I got so much damn paperwork.
Dario: Why'd you want to see me?
Rafe: Because I... saw this on the community board.
Dario: "Volunteers needed to mentor at-risk kids." This is why you wanted to see me?
Rafe: Yeah. I thought that that was something that you and I could do together.
Dario: So we could, like, bond?
Rafe: Yeah, we could bond. Maybe we would even help a kid in need, you know?
Dario: Look, Rafe, I know you're worried about me. That you want me to find a-- what'd you call it again?
Dario: Direction in my life...
Dario: But I'm not the one in the family you should be worried about.
[Knocks on door]
Adriana: [Speaking Spanish]
Eduardo: [Speaking Spanish] So, will you, uh... let me come in, please?
Theresa: I don't care what you've heard, miss Martindale, I can assure you that Nicole walker is committed to DJ wear, and she has no intention of leaving, so you don't have to pull your money. Of course...DJ wear is stable. Mm-hmm. Because Nicole walker is my business partner and I work very closely with her. Okay, bye-bye.
Theresa: [Sighs tensely]
Theresa: DJ wear. One moment, please. I'll see if Miss Donovan is available. Who may I ask is calling? Okay. I'm sorry, Miss Donovan just slipped into a meeting, but she asked me to tell you that DJ wear has not lost a single investor because Nicole walker is not leaving the company. Yes, you may quote her on that.
Theresa: [Exhales sharply]
[Cell phone beeps]
Theresa: Uh, Brady, hi. Listen, I don't know where you are or what you're doing, but I really need you to come back here, okay? Because the phones are ringing off the hook and the baby's about to wake up from a nap and I just--I need you. I really--I just--I need you.
Clark: Well, did you bring the money?
Brady: She brought me.
Dario: The one in the family you should be spending time with is Mami. Unless you're fine with her spending her golden years with a murderer. Me? I think it's a mistake.
Rafe: Okay, so what do you want me to do, hmm? Threaten to ground her?
Dario: Fine, but I don't want to be the one picking up the pieces if she falls for Eduardo, and he takes off or he's dead.
Eduardo: Adriana, I know how you feel about me and I know all the good reasons you have for keeping me out of your house, but the thing is... I have this bag. Now, in here I got maseca, some beautiful-looking chicken breasts. Plump and glistening. I got cilantro. I got queso fresco, black beans, you know.
Adriana: You think I'm going to cook for you?
Eduardo: No, no, no, I'm-- of course not. I'm gonna make them. You got a huarache press?
Adriana: If I did, I would throw it at your head.
Eduardo: Oh, good. Okay, well, you know, I can improvise. Do you remember that...
Adriana: [Clears throat]
Eduardo: First lunch I made for you when we were still getting to know each other? If I recall, you were kind of impressed. It was a Sunday, and I almost asked you to marry me that day. I was afraid you would turn me down.
Adriana: Mm, and that would have been a very big problem for you, right?
Adriana: Since you needed a wife and a family to provide you with a cover.
Eduardo: That's true, but it's also true that the only woman I wanted was you.
Adriana: Eventually, perhaps.
Eduardo: No, I fell in love with you...
Eduardo: Immediately. It was actually pretty painful for me.
Adriana: My heart bleeds.
Eduardo: I knew that I was going to have to walk away at some point, and I was really hating the thought of that.
So... what do you say?
Adriana: But you went after me anyway.
Eduardo: Yeah, I did. I did whatever I could to win your heart. One lovely date at a time. That was me. Can I come in?
Adriana: [Exhales sharply] You knew the answer to that the moment you said, "huarache."
Theresa: Hi, John, it's me. Listen, I really need to talk to you. It's important. Please, call me back.
[Cell phone beeps]
Marlena: I was able to talk to Eric at the prison today.
John: Ah, so how's he doing?
Marlena: Well, there's an AA chapter there at the prison and he's going to meetings, and he's taking it very seriously.
John: That's a good thing.
Marlena: And he's also the chaplain's new assistant.
John: Well, that's got to mean a lot to him.
Marlena: It does.
John: So did he change his mind about having us come to visit him?
Marlena: Well, I'm hoping. I'm hoping that he will.
John: Good. Then we'll do that then.
Marlena: He asked about Sami. I wish I knew of some way that he could be in touch with her.
Brady: It's all there. It's $50,000. You can count it if you want.
Clark: All right, it's all here, so I will just be on my wa--
Brady: No, no, hold on. Hold on. You're gonna need a little bit of information before you go. Number one, she's reformed, all right? Her grifting days are over. That money's a one-time thing. Consider it an apology for the money that she conned you out of, but you two are square. I don't want to see you in this town again. If I catch you around here demanding money or making threats, I can promise you you're going to be the one that ends up in prison, all right?
Clark: For what?
Brady: Blackmail. The DA and I, we're, um... we're very close, okay?
Clark: You made your point.
Brady: All right, good. I hope so for your sake.
Summer: [Sighs] Thank you, thank you, thank you. I don't know how I will ever repay you. I'm Phil Michelson, pro golfer.
John: So, doc, have you asked Sami why she won't talk to anyone?
Paul: I'm gonna get a refill. Anyone else?
Marlena: No, thanks.
John: I'm good. Thanks though. So have you asked her why she doesn't want anyone to know where she is even though Stefano's dead?
Marlena: Of course I have. I just get these cryptic texts saying that she's fine, not to worry about her.
Marlena: You know, what I do wonder about is why my children can't seem to find some real peace in their lives.
John: Ah, sweetheart, it just seems like all we can really do sometimes with grown kids is just let 'em know that we love 'em and support 'em.
Eduardo: [Singing softly in Spanish]
Adriana: [Sighs] This was the first food I gave the kids after they finished with baby food.
Eduardo: Oh, I remember. [Resumes singing] Rafe was crying. He was in his high chair, and he was afraid of them.
Eduardo: And then you coaxed him into trying a spoonful.
Adriana: And the crying stopped.
Adriana: [Laughs] And I remember, he tried to grab the last piece of huarache with his chubby little hands. He was so sweet, my Rafael.
Eduardo: [Resumes singing] You're cutting that onion a little big, aren't you?
Adriana: What are you talking about?
Eduardo: You remember how we used to do it? You gotta slice it halfway down... slice it halfway down, you spin it.
Adriana: Let me try. Let me try.
Eduardo: Okay, you spin it, see?
Eduardo: Hmm, come over here.
Eduardo: And you dice it nice and tight.
Eduardo: Closer is better. [Resumes singing]
[Soft romantic music]
Eduardo: You see how it's coming back to you?
Brady: I have to get going.
Summer: Wait, I don't want you to leave while you're mad at me.
Brady: I don't know how I feel right now. I'm still trying to get used to the idea that you were a con artist, summer.
Summer: I know.
Brady: Did Daniel know?
Summer: He knew everything about me. I'm sorry I didn't tell you right away. I was just too embarrassed. I knew how you would see me. You would never want me to come to Salem to meet Maggie.
Brady: You said you told her too?
Summer: Yeah, I thought I had to.
Brady: How'd she take it?
Summer: She was great. She didn't love the idea, but she didn't judge me.
Brady: That sounds like Maggie.
Summer: Brady, I wasn't out to hurt people. I'm not proud of my old life, but it's what I had to do to survive. Look... I hope maybe someday you'll understand what it was like to be me.
Brady: If that guy comes back around here, you let me know. We offered women a mystery beauty treatment.
[Soft romantic music]
Eduardo: You have tears in your eyes.
Adriana: It's the onions.
Eduardo: Yeah. I really miss you.
Adriana: You do?
Gabi: Mami, I got back from my photo shoot early, so--
Adriana: [Clears throat]
Eduardo: Hey, wow.
Eduardo: You look good, Gabi.
Gabi: Thank you. I had a photo shoot.
Adriana: Arianna is still napping. She's such a good sleeper.
Eduardo: Just like her mama was, right?
Adriana: Yeah, that's right.
Eduardo: Yeah, we're making huarache, so...
Gabi: Oh, my gosh.
Eduardo: You want to stay? Yeah.
Gabi: Those look so good. I would love to stay, but I'm gonna meet up with JJ. We're gonna have lunch.
Eduardo: Well, why don't you invite JJ to come here for lunch?
Gabi: And you're sure you two don't mind?
Both: Oh, no.
Adriana: Not at all.
Arianna: [Over baby monitor] Mommy.
Gabi: Oh, she's up, okay.
Adriana: She's awake.
Eduardo: Listen, could I go to her? She knows me now.
Gabi: Sure, yeah.
Gabi: You're welcome.
Gabi: Mami, what is going on here?
Adriana: Nothing. It--he just--
Gabi: You're making huaraches rig--
Adriana: What are you doing here?
Rafe: Well, it's lunch time. Whoa, are those huaraches?
Gabi: Yes, but you can't have 'em. Don't touch.
Rafe: [Speaking Spanish]
Gabi: Nope, nope, nope.
Rafe: Yeah, seriously.
Gabi: No--aren't they?
Rafe: Oh, Mami.
Adriana: How long has it been since the whole family had a meal together?
Dario: What do you mean, "the whole family"?
Eduardo: Eh? Yeah, this can be your very first huarache...
John: I know that Sami and Eric have had their problems, but you know what? They're really good people. Even though they've had their fair share of bad luck, I think they're gonna work through things. I mean, look at belle. She's been really lost. Now she's got her law degree, she and Shawn and Claire are back in Salem, and I'm feeling pretty good about the fact that she and Shawn are gonna make things happen. What?
Marlena: I spoke to belle. She signed the divorce papers. She's moving on, which is really code for a new man.
John: Philip Kiriakis.
Marlena: Mm-hmm. You know belle. She likes to be in love.
John: Shouldn't be surprised about the divorce, but, damn, I was sure pulling for her and Shawn.
Marlena: Mm, I know. I was too. By the way, Claire doesn't know.
John: Why not?
Marlena: Well, belle didn't want to ruin her prom. Although it has been ruined because Claire went to jail.
John: I don't think I heard correctly. It kind of sounded like you said she missed her prom night 'cause she spent it in jail.
Marlena: Yeah. Yeah, she and some friends had vandalized a car. Retaliation for some insult to Ciara and Theo at the prom.
John: On prom night?
John: Ah, that's beautiful.
Marlena: Wait, wait, where are you going?
John: I think I need to have a talk with my granddaughter.
Marlena: No, no, I think that her parents should do that.
John: And what are the grandparents gonna do? Absolutely nothing?
Marlena: Well, "sometimes, all you can do for grown children is show them that you love them and support them."
Theresa: My partnership with Nicole walker is as solid as ever. There's nothing to worry about.
Theresa: Oh, God, Brady, listen, can you please field phone calls, okay? I have, like, a zillion emails I need to answer from stores wanting to know if we're gonna be able to fill the orders in time and--
Brady: Leave it, leave it, leave it.
Theresa: But it could be Nicole.
Brady: Theresa, leave it. This is important. Um...
Brady: You'll be delighted to know that you were right about summer.
Theresa: Excuse me?
Brady: She's a con artist. Or was.
Theresa: How do you know that?
Brady: Because she scammed a guy out of a lot of money and he tracked her down. He came here and he said he was gonna call the cops if she didn't pay him back.
Theresa: Well, how much did she get him for?
Theresa: $50,000? Are you kidding me? That's not some small-time con, Brady.
Brady: I know, I know, but those days are behind her because she paid him back.
Theresa: What do you mean h-- she paid him back? How did she pay--she doesn't even have 50¢ to her name, let alone 50,000-- oh, Brady, honey, please. Please tell me that you did not give her that money.
Theresa: Oh, my God, you did. [Exhales sharply]
Brady: Yes, Theresa, I gave summer the money, okay? I don't want to hear another word about it.
Theresa: Okay. Look, I don't want to sound selfish here, but you are the company's main investor.
Brady: Don't worry about the money. I don't want to hear about the money.
Theresa: Brady, that's easy for you to say, you've always had money. Which...I guess that's why you thought it was okay to hand summer $50,000 without checking with me first.
Brady: I'm so--hold on. Hold on. Checking with you?
Theresa: Honey, we're business partners now. Not to mention we're raising a son together, and we're engaged to be married, okay? I think I deserve to be consulted.
Brady: I didn't consult with you on this because I knew exactly that you--that you would freak out about it. Just the way you are now. This is exactly what--
Theresa: But Brady, you just told me that summer admitted she stole $50,000 from some guy. Yeah, why shouldn't she go to prison, huh?
Brady: You know what? You of all people should understand about giving people second chances. Right?
Theresa: Oh, wow, she really has you under her spell, doesn't she?
Brady: There's no spell.
Theresa: Where are you going now?
Brady: I'm gonna get some air.
Theresa: Brady-- what--Brady? Um... listen, Emma, I'm gonna go out for a while. Okay. Brady!
JJ: I thought I knew Mexican food, but I have never had anything like this. This is amazing.
Adriana: Thank you. Glad you like it.
Rafe: Look at Arianna. Looks like she likes huaraches as much as we did when we were kids.
Gabi: Oh, she likes it.
Eduardo: It's the salsa roja. Once you get a taste for that, you're all in. It's all good.
Adriana: Gabi used to ask for it for her birthday dinner every year. You remember that?
Gabi: Yeah, I remember.
Dario: The mole.
Dario: She was a sucker for anything with chocolate in it.
Gabi: [Laughs] I still am.
Eduardo: Yeah, people who don't like chocolate are suspicious.
Rafe: Mami, you still make your tamales?
Adriana: Mm, once in a while.
Adriana: Those were your aunt Arianna's favorite.
Adriana: God rest her soul.
Rafe: She was a beautiful person.
Adriana: Yes, she was, and she's still with us in our hearts.
Eduardo: I'm sure she'd be happy to see us all sharing this meal together.
Dario: You think so? You think that would fill your dead daughter's heart with joy?
Eduardo: So what about you? You got any family cooking traditions, JJ?
JJ: [Clears throat] My mom bakes. She learned it from her grandmother.
JJ: Yeah, she makes some pretty killer donuts.
Eduardo: You like to cook?
JJ: My sister does. I'm not much of a cook, but I can use a microwave pretty well.
Eduardo: How long have you known Gabriella?
JJ: We've known each other for quite a while now. She's one of my sister's best friends.
Eduardo: Mm, that'd be Abby, right? How long you been on the police force, man?
JJ: I'm a rookie. I just got started.
Dario: Oh, boy. You got to be sweating now, JJ. Getting the third degree from a fine, upstanding citizen like Eduardo.
Gabi: You know--
Dario: Oh, come on! Who the hell is he to be sitting at the head of the table playing the patriarch?
John: I think that we've always been there for our kids.
Paul: I hope I'm not interrupting a private conversation.
John: No, no, no, not at all.
Marlena: Change your mind about a refill?
Paul: No, the line was too long.
John: Well, you know what? I think we need to get started on ordering up those baseball tickets. What do you say?
John: Hey, there's Brady. Hey, Brady. Yo, kid--son. [Chuckling]
Brady: Oh, I'm sorry, dad. I didn't see you guys. Sorry.
John: Looks like you were in a hurry. What's going on?
Brady: [Sighs] [Bangs on door]
Theresa: I'm going to put this into short, simple sentences that even you can understand. Brady and I are engaged. Brady loves me. So this little fantasy you've got about taking him away from me, give it up 'cause you don't have a prayer. Go back to la and get out of our lives.
Summer: I'm sorry you feel that way.
Theresa: No, you're not.
Summer: I don't think of Brady any other way but as a friend.
Theresa: Listen, cookie, I'm not one of your marks. Oh, yeah, Brady told me about the $50,000.
Summer: He knows how bad I feel about that.
Theresa: You know what? Save it. Those little games you play, I'm the one who invented them, and if I hear that you got one more nickel out of Brady, I am going to go straight to the cops. So do yourself a favor. Don't screw with me.
Brady: I'm having a problem over at DJ wear...
Brady: But it's fine. I'm sorry, I was just thinking about it. [Chuckles]
Marlena: Well, why don't you sit down and tell us all about it?
Brady: I'd love to, I really would, but I can't. I don't have the time to do that, but I promise, once I get the situation stabilized, I will make plans.
John: Well, don't work yourself to death, kid. You hear me?
Brady: I'm fine. I'm good.
Brady: I'm good.
John: All right.
Marlena: We'd love to have you and Theresa to supper some night, and Paul, you should join us.
Brady: Yeah, yeah, I'll tell Theresa. She'd like that.
John: Hey, listen, I gave you a call. Paul and I were planning a road trip. We're gonna go check out some big league ball games. You want to go?
Brady: Oh, dad, I left you a message, man. I told you I can't. I'd love to, but I just--I don't have the time, but I promise we will get together soon, and I'll look forward to dinner. Pasta primavera, maybe.
Marlena: I know where to order that.
Clark: Oh, you going somewhere?
Summer: You heard Brady. If you had a brain in your head, you'd be out of the state by now.
Clark: [Chuckles] That guy doesn't scare me.
Summer: Well, he should. His family practically owns this town.
Clark: Are you gonna call him now? I didn't think so.
Summer: What do you want now?
Clark: That was a nice little con we just played on Brady black. I thought maybe you'd like your cut of the money.
Summer: This was a one-time thing. Just like Brady said.
Clark: [Whistles] Oh, Cindi, we are just getting started.
Summer: Stop calling me Cindi, and leave Brady alone.
Clark: [Laughs] Looks like someone made a rookie mistake somewhere, baby. You got the hots for a mark?
Summer: He is not a mark, and you need to get out of here now.
Clark: Or what?
Eduardo: Sorry about that, man. My younger son has a lot of problems with the way I've lived my life.
Dario: Don't you apologize for me.
Adriana: Dario, please.
Rafe: Yeah, would you knock it off, okay? Hey, Eduardo's back. Can we just try and make it work?
Dario: Make it work?
Dario: Do you know anything about this man?
JJ: No, I don't, but it seems like you guys need to talk, so if I may, I'm gonna--
JJ: It's okay. I'll let you guys talk. I'm just going to excuse myself, but thank you so much for lunch. It was delicious. Thank you.
Dario: Hey, JJ, if you're hoping for a future with Gabi, you should get used to scenes like this.
Gabi: Okay, you know what? That's enough.
Rafe: Oh, my God.
Gabi: That's enough. That's--I'm done. Dario, you keep your mouth shut, okay? I'm coming with you. Can you grab that?
Gabi: Thank you. Here, mama, let's go.
Rafe: [Scoffs] All right. Are you happy?
Dario: You want to stuff your face with huaraches, and sit across from a murderer, pretending everything's okay? Go on right ahead. Me? I don't have the stomach for it.
Gabi: [Sighs] Hey, I think your abuelo's gonna be a little bit of a problem. Hey, I'm sorry that you had to go through that.
JJ: Don't apologize, please.
Gabi: You have to admit, it was kind of a surreal scene at the Hernandez kitchen table. My father, yet again, asking if your intentions towards me were honorable.
JJ: Look, don't worry, okay?
JJ: It would take a lot more than that to scare me off now. Come here.
Eduardo: I appreciate you trying to make peace, Rafe. Especially given your own reservations about me. That was very cool. I see why you make your mama so proud.
Rafe: [Chuckles] Well, I need to get back to work. Thank you. It was a great lunch.
Adriana: It was our pleasure, mijo. I'm glad you liked it.
John: Hey, Theresa, sorry I didn't pick up your calls. I had my phone on silent.
Theresa: Is there any way you can meet me? I'd rather talk in person.
John: Your message said it was important. Is it Tate? I just saw Brady. He seems fine.
Theresa: No, it's not Tate. You saw Brady? Did he say anything to you?
John: Well, he just seemed a little distracted. Claimed there was a problem with the company. Why? What's going on?
Theresa: I don't--I'd really rather talk about it in person. I'll text you a time and place. And, please, John, if you see Brady, don't tell him that I asked you to meet with me.
John: [Scoffs] Why not? Theresa, why don't you just tell-- what's going on?
[Cell phone beeps]
Clark: Don't you know that rich guys like Brady black never go for a chick like you? He might take you on as a charity case, but take you home to meet the parents? I don't think so.
Summer: Get out, now.
Clark: I've been casing this town, and there is plenty of money here. And taking from these small town yokels ought to be a piece of cake. I'll even let you cut your buddy in. What's his name? Dario? Get him under control though 'cause that guy's got a hot head. I mean, he talked you into leaving me, so...
Summer: I made that up to you. I helped you get the money out of Brady, so why don't you just go back to la and forget that you ever knew me?
Clark: You're asking the impossible, Cindi, baby, because once a guy gets to know you, you see, he can never forget you.
Summer: Cindi is dead. Okay? The past is dead.
Clark: Well, I know a way to bring her back to life, remember?
Clark: [Groans] [Choking]
Summer: Clark? Oh, my God.
Adriana: So after today, you'll be back for another meal?
Eduardo: Well, this one ended kind of badly...
Eduardo: And it was my fault. I mean, Dario has a point. An absentee father has no right to question his daughter's boyfriend.
Adriana: Well, Gabi wasn't really angry, and if JJ was scared off by a few questions from you, then maybe our daughter deserves someone better. What?
Eduardo: You just called Gabi, "our daughter."
Adriana: That's what she is, and little Arianna is our granddaughter.
Eduardo: Thank you.
So, everything is clean?
Adriana: Yep, thank you.
Eduardo: Yeah. Uh... [Laughs softly] I guess I'll be going.
Do you mind if I ask you what Rafe whispered in your ear before he left?
Adriana: He said, if I'm happy, he would try to be happy for me.
Eduardo: And are you happy?
Adriana: To see all of us around this table again, that made me very happy.
Eduardo: Yeah, me too. I'm sorry that it ended badly.
Adriana: Well, we're a family full of strong-willed people. Those things will happen.
Eduardo: Yeah. So what're you doing for dinner?
Adriana: Don't push your luck.
Eduardo: What? [Laughs] Yeah. [Chuckles]
Marlena: Funny. Well, I wonder why Theresa's being so mysterious.
John: Oh, I don't know. [Sighs] I'll tell you one thing. I think Brady's got more on his mind than just business.
Marlena: Mm. Maybe they had a fight. Or maybe it's not as serious as she makes it sound.
John: Or--you know what? We're not ignoring you. We're just dealing with the issues of our other kids here. I'm sorry, this conversation's probably boring you to tears.
Marlena: No, I don't think it's boredom. You haven't been yourself since you sat down, Paul.
Paul: I'm not feeling 100% lately.
John: Well, after what happened to you at the hands of my illustrious father, how could that not have an effect on you?
Marlena: I know you're not a great believer in psychoanalysis, you tend to cure yourself, but if you need to talk about something, I'm always available to you.
Paul: I'll think about it. I'm gonna take off.
John: Yeah, yeah, sure.
Paul: [Breathing heavy]
John: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Paul: I'm sorry, I'm--
John: No, that's okay. What the hell's going on with you, man? You're white as a sheet and you got the sweats going on. I'm gonna run him over to the ER.
Marlena: Good, I'll collect everything and see you.
John: All right, okay.
Marlena: Right behind you.
John: Hey, whoa, whoa.
Dario: Hey, I got your messages. What's...going on? What's he doing here? What's the matter with him?
Dario: He's got no pulse. He looks dead.
Summer: He is dead. What am I gonna do?
