Jade: [Laughs softly] What are you, a stalker or something?
Joey: Who're you listening to?
Jade: You don't like 'em.
Joey: How do you know?
Jade: [Chuckles] You wouldn't take me to see them in Chicago.
Joey: Doesn't mean I don't like the band. It was just the mess with my parents.
[Cell phone beeps]
Jade: My old man came home for lunch for the first time this century, and my mom is in, like, heaven. Doris wants me to come home so we can bond as a family. Like they'll listen to a word I say. Later.
Kayla: You're not taking that one are you?
Steve: Why, is there a reason you want me to leave it here?
Maggie: I was young and selfish, and I just couldn't imagine being a mother or raising a child.
Summer: So... what're you saying? [Crying softly]
Maggie: I made the choice. No one did it for me. And God forgive me... I gave you away.
Why would you and Brady want Victor and me to move in with you?
Theresa: [Exhales] I really thought you knew.
Maggie: Knew what? Is the house being worked on? I mean, is that why you're suggesting this?
Theresa: It's not that.
Maggie: Well, it's something, and it's not good, and you thought I knew. So, Theresa, stop stalling and tell me the truth. What do you know that I don't?
Nicole: Why do I get the uncomfortable feeling that you want me to go after your brother?
Victor: If memory serves, you're up to the job.
Nicole: Maybe. If a man could do something for me. Or after he did something rotten to me...but this is about you. And Deimos tossed you out of your house and he took over your company, so you go after him. This guy is not my problem.
Victor: Then why did you come over here to talk to me about him?
Nicole: Well, for one thing, he told me I look a lot like a woman from your past. Something you never bothered to mention.
Victor: Yeah, I know.
Nicole: It explains a lot, don't you think?
Victor: What's the other thing? You said, "one thing."
Nicole: This mess you're in, it affects Maggie too, and I love Maggie.
Victor: Well, then for God sakes, help me out here.
Nicole: [Sighs] Why? Hmm? What's in it for me? Deimos cut you off without a drachma to your name.
Victor: Oh, come on. You know me, Nicole. I'll find a way to make it worth your while.
Theresa: Okay, well, I'll tell you what I know, but it's not a lot. I heard Brady and Justin talking, and, um... what they were saying was that-- well, Deimos forced Victor to give him control of the company.
Maggie: What? Victor turned over control of Titan industries to that man?
Theresa: It's not just that. Victor had to give him the house too.
Theresa: Maggie, I'm so sorry. I really, really thought you knew, and I shouldn't have said anything, but I think that Victor didn't want you to find out, and--
Maggie: Get me a wheelchair.
Maggie: Get me a wheelchair. I need to see Victor.
Theresa: Now? Listen, don't you think maybe you should just let this sink in for--
Maggie: No. Either you get me a wheelchair and push me into Victor's room, or I'll do it myself. One way or the other, I'm going to see my husband, and I'm gonna get some answers. Help me here.
Nicole: Could you maybe walk me through what you think I could do to Deimos.
Victor: You're a dead ringer for a woman that he's grieved over for decades. Should be a host of possibilities there.
Nicole: Be specific.
Victor: Be the Nicole that I loved and hated. Seduce him. Make him fall madly in love with you. Marry him. Then take the son of a bitch for everything he's got.
Nicole: Are there smelling salts in that nightstand drawer?
Nicole: Because you just asked me to get you out of the biggest jam of your life and I'm feeling a little light-headed.
Victor: You gonna do it?
Nicole: The woman that could do the things you want done... she fell in love with Daniel Jonas, and she was gonna spend the rest of her life with him. So she worked really hard to put her colorful past behind her.
Victor: Come on. She's still in there somewhere. And this time, when she breaks out her bag of tricks, she'll be doing it for a worthy cause.
Nicole: Worthy cause? Fighting your battle with your brother so you could get your big house and all your money back?
Victor: No, so that I can hire the best doctors in the world so that Maggie won't have to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair with a man who's broke. I don't think Daniel would have wanted that for his mother. Do you?
Nicole: No. But the idea of crawling into bed with any other man, let alone this man...
Victor: Maggie could have died, and it's all because of him.
Nicole: What do you mean? Maggie fell down the stairs. It was an accident.
Victor: Look, I've already said more than I wanted to. Let me just tell you this: Everything Maggie is suffering through now is because of him.
Nicole: My God.
Victor: Now, go ahead. Think about what I said, please. And when I said I would make it worth your while, I wasn't joking around.
Steve: You must have a hundred pictures of the three of us together.
Kayla: But that's the one I put on the mantle.
Kayla: Because Joey said he liked that one and he doesn't like many things right now, so...
Steve: Don't you think having the three of us living together would make him happier than, you know, some picture?
Kayla: I, um...I put it up there the night that you moved back here. Before we knew anything about Ava. Before our whole life unraveled. Maybe that's why Joey likes it.
Steve: That's why I like it too.
Kayla: Yeah, well, your son is having to live with the fact that he suffocated Ava, so if that picture gives him any comfort or helps him understand a little bit what might have pushed him so far... that picture needs to stay up there, and Joey really needs some counseling.
Steve: I'm with you on that.
Kayla: I...I tried to talk to him about it yesterday, and he refused, but I'm not gonna give up. He needs to talk to somebody about what he's done. And his needs just have to come before ours.
Steve: Is that why you're not telling him you were in the hospital?
Kayla: Well, I'm fine now, so he doesn't need to worry about it. Don't tell him about it either, all right?
Steve: I won't.
Kayla: Thank you.
Joey: You're just giving up?
Brady: Summer, hi.
Summer: Brady, hi.
Brady: Why didn't you let Maggie know that you were here?
Summer: What was I gonna say to her? The whole way here I was trying to figure that out, and I couldn't come up with anything.
Brady: Because you still can't forgive her for putting you up for adoption?
Summer: I want to. I just--I can't.
Brady: Okay, come with me.
Summer: Where are we going?
Brady: We're gonna go someplace where I can talk some sense into you. Let's go.
Victor: Well, I was just about to have somebody take me down to your room. Great minds.
Maggie: When we get released, where are we going?
Victor: What the hell did you tell her?
Maggie: Don't talk to Theresa. Talk to me.
Victor: Gladly. In private.
Maggie: It's all right. Thank you for getting me here.
Theresa: Yeah, um, I'll just stick around outside, okay? Just holler when you want to go back to your room.
Maggie: Okay. So are we going home or do we not have a home to go to? Did Deimos really blackmail you into giving him the house?
Victor: Yes. And the business.
Maggie: And you didn't tell me?
Victor: You're in a wheelchair. How much are you supposed to take?
Maggie: Did you think that you could keep me from finding out?
Victor: For a little while, yes. I didn't know Theresa was gonna come prancing in and broadcasting the news. Thought that was beneath even her.
Maggie: She didn't prance in. She asked us to stay with her and Brady.
Victor: Oh, for God sakes.
Maggie: This is not about Theresa. This is about us. How did he do it? What does he have on you?
Maggie: I don't understand.
Victor: What he held over my head was you. (Vo) if you have type 2 diabetes,
Steve: Joe, I'm not giving up. I'm just giving your mom a little space.
Joey: Packing a box of your stuff. That's a lot of space.
Steve: Yeah. Well, you saw the note I left for your mom after she asked me to leave.
Joey: Yeah, I did. It said you weren't giving up, and it said you didn't want her to either. It looks like she doesn't care what you want.
Steve: Well, I'm giving her a chance to miss me. To miss us as a family. I'm sorry. It was a stupid thing to say. Joe, I swear to you, I'll be back. [Sighs] Okay... that's the last box. I'll take off. Here, buddy. You're gonna come visit me in my new digs, right?
Steve: Okay. Kayla, I love you, but you already knew that.
Joey: Well, you got rid of him. Are you happy now?
Summer: You didn't say a word all the way home. Brady, I know you think I should tell Maggie all is forgiven. Ever think that maybe she doesn't care what I do?
Brady: Okay, I--I think she cared enough about you to decide that life with a scared 17-year-old mother with no father wasn't a good enough life for her baby. That's what I think.
Summer: So why didn't she say that when I told her I was her daughter. Why did she lie?
Brady: I don't know. Maybe because I sprung you on her with no warning. Maybe she's just as scared as you are. You know, summer, her life is pretty much crap right now. Maybe... maybe you could extend a little bit of understanding. Unless that's not what you want to do. Maybe you just want to keep dragging this thing out.
Summer: Why would I want that?
Brady: Maybe you think that's the best way to keep me feeling sorry for you.
Maggie: So Deimos had something on me that he used to blackmail you? But my only secret was summer, and now she knows the truth.
Victor: Nothing that you did. What my brother did.
Maggie: Well, then I really don't understand what you're talking about.
Victor: I've been lying here trying to figure the best way to break it to you, but there's no gentle way to say something like this. You're in that chair because of him.
Maggie: I'm in this chair 'cause I was dizzy and I fell down the steps.
Victor: No, the reason you were dizzy is because Deimos was poisoning you.
Victor: You remember when you were saying you didn't feel right? And you remember the night that you fainted at Brady and Theresa's engagement party?
Maggie: Of course.
Victor: Well, that's because Deimos was making you sick, and that's why you got dizzy, and that's why you fell. You would have died that night, but Deimos was there and he said he had an antidote to the poison. But there was only one way that he would turn it over to me.
Maggie: So he wouldn't save my life unless you turned over everything that you have? So you gave up everything that you have... so I could live?
Joey: I just don't get it. Dad loves you... and you still love him. I can tell.
Kayla: Sometimes love is just not enough, Joey.
Joey: Why not?
Kayla: Taking chances makes your father feel alive. I can't live that way anymore, and I don't want you to either.
Joey: Just because you don't have the guts doesn't mean that I don't.
Kayla: Joey, are you okay knowing that you took someone's life?
Joey: No! Of course not! Why would you even ask me that? But throwing dad out's not gonna change anything. You're tearing our family apart for no reason!
Summer: So you do agree with Theresa now. You think I'm working you.
Brady: Your total lack of compassion for Maggie... for what she went through when you were born... with what you've witnessed with your own eyes-- yes, summer, I'm questioning what you really want.
Summer: Wow. [Scoffs] For you to say that to me... you think I'm hurting Maggie so you can keep feeling sorry for me? What do I need to do to prove that you and Theresa are wrong about me?
Brady: It's very simple. Just give Maggie another chance.
Maggie: Deimos came to the house the day that you were sick in bed with a cold. He claimed he wanted to make peace with you. I didn't believe him. I told him to leave. He asked for a glass of water first. There wasn't any of them on the bar. Um...I went to the kitchen and I left him alone. Hmm, my purse was in the room. The myasthenia pills were in it.
Victor: Probably switched them.
Maggie: Yeah. Soon after that, I felt strange. Victor, why didn't I just throw him out?
Victor: Because that's not who you are.
Maggie: But you lost everything.
Victor: Just money. If I'd lost you, all the money in the world wouldn't have done any good.
Maggie: You saved my life.
Victor: You're in that chair because of me. If I hadn't fought with Helena, she wouldn't have...died. And I think that you're... you know, if the gods were trying to come up with the perfect punishment, they nailed it.
Maggie: The gods didn't come up with the punishment. Deimos did. [Sighs] And now I know him. He wasn't the passionate young man in love like you were. And I'm sure that he was as cold and calculating when he seduced Helena as he was when he poisoned me. [Sighs] There's no changing a man like him. All you can do is get revenge.
Victor: Did I hear Maggie Horton say, "revenge"?
Maggie: Why not? Are you in?
Joey: Hey. I went to your house. Your mom said you took off.
Jade: What else did Doris tell you?
Joey: That you guys had an argument.
Jade: They were waiting for me when I got there, and they took turns listing all the rotten things they think I've done.
Joey: I'm sorry.
Jade: What am I supposed to do? [Chuckles] Turn 40 or something?
Joey: [Sighs] Yeah, I hear you.
Jade: [Scoffs] They're talking about boarding school.
Joey: You don't want that, believe me.
Jade: Yeah, I know. Right?
Joey: When I got home, my dad was packing up the last of his stuff. He's gone.
Jade: For real?
Joey: He says he's coming back, but she had that look in her eye.
Jade: After everything you did to try and get them back together.
Joey: Looks like it's just gonna be me and my mom again. Casseroles. "How was your day, Joey?" I can't take it.
Jade: [Chuckles] You know what we should do?
Joey: I wish I did.
Jade: Just take off. Kiss this crap town good-bye.
Kayla: Oh, uh... don't tell me you make house calls. You're gonna make us all look bad.
Fynn: I'm off duty, and you're on my way home.
Fynn: I was wondering why you didn't come to work this morning.
Kayla: Oh, I just took a personal day. I'm fine.
Fynn: No headaches? No dizziness?
Kayla: None of the above.
Fynn: 'Cause you and I both know that hematoma's nothing to be treated casually.
Kayla: I am doing everything my doctor prescribed.
Fynn: Okay, good. An iced tea. You know, that sounds good. But, please, don't go out of your way.
Kayla: I'm sorry, certainly. Come in. Um, lemon or sugar?
Fynn: Both. I mean, if I'm not intruding.
Kayla: No, as you can see, I have the house to myself.
Victor: You know, I did Deimos a grave injustice. Now he feels that he has what he deserves.
Maggie: So we're gonna just let it go? Move in with Brady and Theresa, and learn how to comparison shop?
Victor: If I make a move, it could cause a war between Deimos and me. I've got a lot more to lose than he does, so as far as I'm concerned, man doesn't exist. I won't raise a finger against him.
Frustrated with your overactive bladder medicine not working?
Kayla: So how did you end up in this country?
Fynn: When I was in doctors without borders in central America, one of the surgeons there, he took me on as a protégé. So when he returned to his regular job in L.A., He helped me get on the staff.
Kayla: Ah, which is how you met Daniel.
Fynn: Right. Best mate I ever had. Worst poker player I ever saw.
Kayla: That's funny.
Fynn: It's good to see you smile.
Kayla: I'm sorry. I haven't had much to smile about lately.
Fynn: You don't deserve that.
Kayla: You know, Fynn, I need to tell you something.
Summer: Looks like they really are getting along.
Brady: It took a long time, you know.
Brady: Theresa wasn't very easy to like when she first came to Salem.
Summer: How come?
Brady: She, uh... she was messed up, summer. She hurt a lot of people.
Summer: So why are you marrying her? Because of Tate?
Brady: No. I'm gonna marry her because I watcher her grow into the kind of person that my son deserves as a parent. She changed. People can do that. It affected me. Probably because I was trying to do the same thing. Anyway, it brought us very close together. I really think you should go see Maggie. What do you say?
Theresa: Can I get you anything? Are your legs comfortable?
Maggie: How the hell would I know?
Theresa: [Laughing] Maggie! Oh, my...
Summer: Why are you laughing?
Maggie: Oh, well, there are times when that's all you can do, and this is one of them.
Summer: If you're not too tired, I was hoping I could talk to you.
Maggie: I'm not tired. I'm just--I'm dazed.
Maggie: I'm dealing with some news I didn't see coming.
Summer: I oughta go.
Maggie: No. I'm glad you're here.
Theresa: I'll, um... I'll just take the wheelchair back to the nurse's station. Call you later?
Summer: I'm here because I have something that belongs to you.
Maggie: You do?
[Soft dramatic music]
Maggie: [Gasps] I was wondering where I lost that.
Summer: You didn't lose it. I stole it.
Joey: Where would we go?
Jade: Doesn't matter. So long as they don't know where we are. Your mom doesn't care about what you want, right?
Joey: No, it's not that. She just-- [Sighs] She just doesn't get it.
Jade: Yeah, same with my parents. We can make them get it.
Joey: By running away?
Jade: By showing them that they drove us away. I wouldn't get any more boarding school talk from my folks, and yours would be so worried it could get them back together.
Joey: I guess it could work.
Jade: Now all you have to do is just not chicken out this time.
Joey: Maybe you're right. Maybe it's time to just take off.
Kayla: I just wanted to say thank you.
Fynn: For what?
Kayla: For just being a good guy, you know, coming by here. Checking on me. Keeping the conversation light. Keeping my mind off of everything that's going on.
Fynn: You looked so serious when you said you had something to tell me. I was getting a bit worried.
Kayla: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I think I just need another adult to talk to. Um, you need a refill. Let me get that. [Laughs] Wait...
Fynn: Kayla! Kayla, you all right? Kayla?
Maggie: Why would you steal this from me?
Summer: It's like...an impulse. I'd just gotten here.
Maggie: To Salem?
Summer: I went out for a walk, and I saw you for the first time. I ran into you.
Maggie: Literally. I dropped all of my files, and you helped me pick them up.
Summer: And I figured out who you were, and then I saw this charm had fallen off your bracelet, so I grabbed it before you noticed. I've done it to other people too. It's always something little like that. I think I'm crazy.
[Soft dramatic music]
Summer: I'm sorry I took it. That's why I brought it back.
Maggie: After what I told you, I wasn't sure you'd ever come back.
Summer: I wasn't sure either, but Brady thinks I'm being too hard on you. He wants me to give you another chance if you still want that.
Maggie: Of course, I want that. I realize I want that very much.
