[Acoustic guitar music]

Claire: Swept away in this nightmare I'm lost in the waves out at sea and calling for your blue-eyed face in the rain I see my fate it's dark and cold

Belle: Oh!

Philip: Sorry, did I hurt you?

Belle: No, it's just-- a girl needs to catch her breath every now and then. Are you okay? Pretty wired, what are you-- what's going on?

Shawn: So, third suspect is Walters, George. 37-year-old Caucasian male.

Lani: And brother of the deceased. So much for brotherly love. Mm. Hey, why do some people call these whiteboards "crazy walls"?

Shawn: I'll remind you to ask me that question once we've run out of room and our eyes are completely bloodshot from trying to decipher everything that we've crammed on there. Ah, which reminds me. This just came in from forensics. Bullet casing found at the scene. Probably want to jot down your phone number on--I mean, your--the serial number off of there. That was smooth, Brady.

Lani: Wow, it's-- it's really small. It's tough to make out.

Shawn: Where?

Lani: I mean, I can't... I can't tell if that's a five, or a six.

Shawn: Uh, looks like a-- maybe, like, and eight to me? [Chuckles] My God, we are total losers right now, aren't we?

Lani: No. We're distracted. And we both know why, so, I'll lock the door if you close the blinds.

Rafe: Hey, you don't have to say anything right now. If you don't feel the same way about me, or about us, it's okay.

Hope: Rafe.

Rafe: No, I'm cool, I--it's-- it's not a problem. I can handle it. It's just... [Sighs] I love you so much that I just can't hold that back anymore.

[Phone keys beeping]

[Soft piano music]

Hope: [Coughing] Ah. [Sighs] Ugh.

Rafe: I know you've been through hell lately, especially when it comes to men. You're dealing with Ciara, everything that happened with her, and... hey, you don't have to say anything right now. If you don't feel the same way about me, or about us, it's okay.

[Soft music]

[Phone ringing]

Hope: Hey. I was just about to call you.

André: I can't tell you how touched I am to hear you say that, hope. I've just been counting the days until I see you again.

[Suspenseful music]

Hope: What do you want, DiMera? And where the hell are you?

André: You know, in a perfect world, I'd be on my cell phone, standing outside your front door, about to pay you a hospitality call. But thanks to you, I'm still behind bars.

Hope: Obviously you're calling for a reason. Get to it.

André: You've been on my mind lately, especially since my court date is rapidly approaching.

Hope: Your point?

André: My point is that I think it's important for you to know that my lawyer has informed me that we're going to beat these spurious charges. And then, when I'm free, I will settle one score after another.

Hope: We're through, André.

André: No, no, no. No, one more thing. I just wanted you to know, before I was arrested, I happened to bump into chase. Poor boy. He told me about the unfortunate incident that happened with your daughter.

Hope: Why would he tell you about that?

André: Because I think he needed somebody to confide in. Hmm. You know, poor Ciara, she had a troubled childhood. It's understandable, what with an absentee father and all that. [Sighs] But please, for her to cry "rape" when she led that poor boy on?

Hope: You son of a bitch! I hope they give you the death sentence. I'd love to administer the lethal injection myself, and believe me, I wouldn't lose one night's sleep. Not one night.

Theo: Hey, you want to go get some fro-yo?

Ciara: How can you even think of food after what happened at school?

Theo: Hey, we got out early, didn't we? Got to look on the bright side.

Ciara: Yeah, I couldn't believe it when Mr. Lesser came on the loudspeaker.

Theo: Mm-hmm.

Ciara: "Students and faculty, school will be closed early today due to a sewage backup."

Theo: Ah, I mean, did they have to tell us the reason?

Ciara: I know, right?

Theo: He should have just said...[Radio cackle], "Hey, it's too nice a day to stay cooped up inside, so everyone just go out and have fun."

Ciara: Yeah, and he would have been right. It is a beautiful day out.

Theo: It's really good to see you smile again.

Ciara: Feels good to smile.

Theo: Well, then my timing is perfect.

Ciara: Okay. For what?

Theo: Um, to ask you to prom.

Ciara: Oh. Theo, uh... that's really sweet of you, but with everything that's going on, I just--I--I was gonna pass on it this year.

Theo: Yeah, but don't you see, that's precisely the reason not to pass on it. So... will you go with me?

Ciara: I'd love to.

Theo: Whew! Okay, glad that's out of the way. Um, yeah, now I want to hear about your new job. How did your first day of babysitting go?

Ciara: Ugh, it was weird. I mean, I went over right after Ben was captured, and... Abigail was still, like, freaked out.

Theo: Yeah, who could blame her?

Ciara: I know, and she was alone with the baby when she had to fight of Ben by herself. That's hard to shake off. I'm--I'm fine. I'm doing better every day. Stronger, I think.

Theo: Good. I'm glad to hear that. Babysitting Thomas helps. He was a bit cranky, and I held him, and he calmed down. Even Abigail seemed to calm down.

Theo: Yeah, you've both had it pretty rough. You know, maybe hanging out with Abigail will be good for you.

Ciara: Thank you.

Theo: For what?

Ciara: For being you. I would have never thought of it that way. I love the way your mind works, Theo carver.

Belle: Talk to me.

Philip: I'm sorry, belle. You were barely in the door tonight when I grabbed you like some caveman. I don't know who that was. It's not who I am, or who I want to be with you.

Belle: I know that. And I can tell something's really getting to you, and I want to help if I can.

Philip: You're already helping, just by being here.

Belle: No, you're not getting off that easy. Come on.

Philip: I was actually feeling pretty stoked a few days ago. When we made plans for the record label. And this... thing that we're not defining.

Belle: [Snorts]

Philip: I guess the situation with my father really did a number on me.

Belle: Is he gonna be okay?

Philip: I think so. If today is any indication, I'd say yes.

Belle: What does that mean?

Philip: If he hadn't been hooked up to all that equipment, there'd be a bloody pulp standing in front of you.

Belle: He laid into you?

Philip: I only have myself to blame. I disappointed him on a massive scale.

Belle: Well, you'll turn that around, I know you will.

Philip: I hope so. If I could only prove that Deimos is responsible for my father's condition.

Belle: You think he is?

Philip: Dad had his heart attack right after Deimos took over ownership of his house.

Belle: Wait, what? How is that even possible?

Philip: I don't know. But when I bumped into him, he was gloating. He said that he owned my father's, uh, real estate investments, business acquisitions. Dad just said that he had traded a lifetime of work to save Maggie.

Belle: Wow. I don't even know what to say. That is so crazy. That's not what's really bothering you, is it?

Philip: I sat by my dad's bed last night, watching him sleep. I was listening to the heart monitor. Praying for it to keep beeping. So that someday, if I was lucky enough... [Sighs], I could prove that I was worthy of his love again.

Belle: Philip.

Philip: What if he died, belle? And we never reconciled? How would I ever have lived with that? Io r

Ciara: That was, uh, Claire. She wants to meet up at the edge.

Theo: Well, go on. I've got, like, a whole bunch of stuff I got to do, so we'll hook up later?

Ciara: Yeah, absolutely. I'll text you.

Theo: All right. Bye.

Abe: Well, it's a beautiful afternoon, isn't it, son?

Theo: Hey, dad. Oh, I'm not in school because there was a plumbing problem, and, uh, they let us out early.

Abe: Oh. I know. I heard about that.

Theo: Well, why aren't you at your work? Plumbing problem there too?

Abe: Well...[Chuckles]. Nah, you know, sometimes when the walls are closing in, I like to get out of the office and take a nice long walk to clear my head.

Theo: That makes sense.

Abe: But the difference today is I have the pleasant surprise of bumping into my son.

Theo: [Laughs]

Abe: I can't think of better company.

Theo: Oh, yeah, I mean, I'd love to hang out, but, um, I've got to go get some supplies for this project I'm doing at school.

Abe: Well, that can wait, can't it? Look, I'd like to talk to you. About Ciara.

Claire: Summertime don't feel right without your taste bitter days mark my way summertime don't feel right without your taste bitter days mark my way don't you ooh, ooh

[Clapping]

Ciara: [Laughing] Oh, my God, Claire. That was fantastic. Wow, move over, Taylor. She's going to be bringing you on stage as a guest artist one day.

Claire: You mean it?

Ciara: I'm not that good of a liar anyway. That song was beautiful, and your voice is amazing. So, what's your problem?

Claire: I don't know, I just feel like everything I've been working on lately sounds totally unoriginal.

Ciara: Well, these ears? Heard an original. I'm gonna be able to say I knew you when.

Claire: Thanks. It means a lot that you feel that way. I think I'm just worried about impressing Philip.

Ciara: Wait, wait, wait. It does or it doesn't matter to you that I think you're amazing?

Claire: Oh, okay. Okay, sorry, pulling foot out of mouth.

Ciara: Thank you. And since when are you worried about impressing Philip? Okay. What haven't you told me?

Belle: Listen, your father is alive, and that means you will have a chance to work things out with him.

Philip: I wish it was that easy.

Belle: I didn't say that it would be, but I mean, what, you guys are on the outs. It's not the first time. You'll find a way to work things out, I know you will.

Philip: He said he wouldn't forgive me unless I came up with a way to destroy Deimos. Short of killing the guy--

Belle: All right, listen. Really, your dad is in the hospital, he's hooked up to all kinds of machines and all kinds of medication--he probably didn't even know what he was saying.

Philip: We're talking about my father here. And the things is, what will any of this accomplish? Even if I come up with a way to satisfy my dad's need for revenge, Deimos will just retaliate and I'll be caught in the middle. And the next time, my father might not be so lucky.

Belle: Well, then maybe you only have one solution.

Philip: What's that?

Belle: You walk away from both of them.

Shawn: As tempting as your suggestion sounds--

Lani: Yes?

Shawn: We have work to do.

Lani: Oh, come on. Don't be a killjoy. We have been working all morning without a break.

Shawn: Lani, no--

Lani: And you need to loosen up.

Shawn: This is not the time or the place, all right?

Lani: Oh, officer Brady? Your lips say "no," but your eyes say "yes." So, how 'bout we work on trying to reconfigure that assessment? It's been a very long time since my last relationship.

Shawn: Oh, so what are you saying--you're saying that I'm the first person that you've been with since you've been to Salem?

Lani: Not that it's any of your business, but yeah. My last relationship was back in Miami. It was a disaster, and it turned me off men for a while.

Shawn: Until now?

Lani: Until you. Okay, well, that's not entirely true. I had a thing for Rafe, but that ended up going nowhere.

Shawn: Why? I'm mean, he's single.

Lani: Well, not in his mind, he's not.

Shawn: What does that mean?

Lani: The man is crazy about your mother.

Shawn: What? No he's not. What are you--no, he's-- they're--they're partners. That's what they are.

Lani: Okay, Shawn--

Shawn: Just partners.

Lani: Look. Trust me, that man would walk to the ends of the earth for your mother.

Hope: I'd like nothing more than to watch the life drain out of you.

André: That's a fine sentiment coming from an officer of the law.

Hope: You son of a bitch.

André: Nah-uh-uh. One last thing: I'm gonna give you something to think about. When I get out, I'm going to act both as judge and jury myself. And then I will make sure that you and your Dudley do-right boyfriend of yours are duly punished--which is to say annihilated... for the murder of my father. Huh. Sweet dreams.

[Phone ringing]

Hope: You son of a bitch. Go to hell. Leave me alone.

Rafe: That's not exactly the reaction I was hoping for.

Hope: God, Rafe. I'm sorry. André just called from jail.

Rafe: I'm on my way.

[Intense music]

Lani: Now, I hope I don't have to do all the work here.

Shawn: Look, Lani. Listen to me. We have a great time together, but we need to be careful about boundaries, all right?

Lani: Okay. Boundaries are boring. Yeah? And--oh, how did all these get buttoned up again?

Shawn: No, don't. We can't. Listen, we had a couple of great dates--

Lani: Mm-hmm.

Shawn: A special night together, all right? But--

Lani: Yeah, and the shower? Oh, actually that would be plural, as in "showers."

Shawn: I know. It's not very likely that I'm gonna forget those.

Lani: Mm-hmm. And in terms of taking things slower? I have no issue with that.

Shawn: Good. Great. See? I'm glad we're both on the same page, good.

Lani: Absolutely, 'cause I am all for slow, and very long, kisses.

Belle: The reality is, you're in a tug-of-war between two very volatile, very powerful men.

Philip: I know, and if I'm caught in the middle--

Belle: I don't want you to end up as collateral damage, Philip.

Philip: There's a part of me that would love to just get the hell out of Salem and away from everyone in it.

Belle: Mm. Maybe not everyone?

Philip: No, not everyone. There's just this other part of me that wants to do exactly what my father is asking me to do: Find a way to bring Deimos down.

Belle: I get that. That's because you love your dad. Listen, if you go to that really dark place, how does that make you any different than Deimos?

Philip: [Sighs]

Belle: Listen. If you can't walk away, and you can't find some other permanent solution to the Deimos problem, I may have one other option for you.

Theo: Can't we talk later? I mean, I really got to go get those supplies, and, uh, me and Ciara are meeting up later for fro-yo.

Abe: [Chuckles] Oh, boy, that does bring back memories. Your mother and I used to have fro-yo all the time. It would be our last stop on the way home after date night.

Theo: That is weird.

Abe: What is?

Theo: Married couples having date night.

Abe: Oh, a lot of married couples still like to have date nights. Your mother and I would set aside one night a week, and we'd get all dressed up, and we'd go someplace nice for dinner. On our way home, we would stop for fro-yo. [Laughing] I would imagine that you and Ciara must have, uh, some nice dates as well.

Theo: Uh, except we aren't dating.

Abe: You're not? Would you like to be?

Ciara: So, why are you suddenly worried about impressing Philip?

Claire: Well, he's about to launch his own record label, so if I can impress him with my songwriting and vocals, I could end up with a contract.

Ciara: Well, if he hears what I just heard, it's a no-brainer.

Claire: [Chuckles]

Ciara: Claire, come on. You're lucky to know what you want. I don't know what I want one minute to the next. I am more confused than I've ever been.

Claire: Oh, Ciara, don't be so hard on yourself, okay? You've been through hell the past few months.

Ciara: I just--I feel like I'm in that movie--you know, "Groundhog Day"? It's like, I wake up in the same day as the day before. [Sighs] And, like, it never changes. And I feel like it never will.

Claire: Oh, Ciara.

Ciara: I'm afraid that I'm never gonna get past what chase did to me.

Belle: Your father is his own man. He's going to admire and respect you if you can define yourself in the same way.

Philip: If he can ever look me in the eye again without wanting to pummel me.

Belle: Listen, you said you wanted a chance to win back his love--maybe this is something that you have to earn back.

Philip: By destroying Deimos.

Belle: Oh, God. To hell with that. These are two grown men. Let them fight their own battles. You need to show him that you don't have to stoop to that level to gain his respect. Philip, this record label is gonna go through the roof. I am certain of it. And I'm gonna be here to help you and support you every step of the way.

Philip: I think you have more faith in me than I do in myself.

Belle: Well, you need to turn that around, then, because the Philip Kiriakis I know is a winner. I wouldn't have invested in the company if I didn't believe you could make it a success.

Philip: I think I could do anything in the world with you by my side.

Belle: Mm... I have to get to work.

Philip: Don't let me stop you.

Belle: God, you give up so easy.

Philip: I was calling your bluff.

Belle: I kinda knew that.

[Romantic music]

Theo: Uh, I don't want to talk about Ciara.

Abe: Now, why's that? You do like her, don't you? You know, it's okay to like her. She seems to be very fond of you.

Theo: She is. She kissed me.

Abe: Well, that must have made you feel good. You know, Ciara is a lovely girl. I'm happy for you. But, I do wonder if she feels the same way about you as you do about her.

Claire: Hey, look, I don't want to hear you talk like that. You can't let what chase did to you ruin your life.

Ciara: It's not like I'm letting it, it just is.

Claire: I know, I know. I'm sorry, that was--that was a bad way to say it.

Ciara: Claire, there's no way that you can, like, possibly understand what I'm going through--

Claire: Oh, God, no. I know that. I do. I just...[Sighs], You know, as your friend, who loves you so much, I--I just want you to feel okay again. For you to get excited about stuff like you used to.

Ciara: Okay. Let's make a deal. If I focus on the things that make me happy, and I try to look forward to stuff again, you can't second-guess your talent.

Claire: Okay. You're on. Speaking of happy, guess who's been marking the dates off on the calendar till prom. I'm so psyched.

Ciara: [Snorts] You're already thinking about prom?

Claire: Yeah, it's right around the corner.

Ciara: Who are you going with?

Claire: Um, that's a minor detail that I'll have to work out. Has Theo asked you yet?

Ciara: Uh-huh.

Claire: "Uh-huh"? What's that? You don't even sound excited.

Ciara: Because I'm not.

Hope: I held it together through most of the phone call, but when he started in about Ciara and the rape, I lost it!

Rafe: Well, André knows what buttons to push. You can't let him get to you.

Hope: I tried not to, believe me. Rafe, just hearing his voice on the phone, it brought back all the guilt and doubt.

Rafe: Well, that's what he was trying to accomplish. Do not take his calls anymore, okay? I'll speak to his defense attorney, see if I can find out anything.

Hope: Thanks.

Rafe: Yeah.

Hope: [Coughing] Sorry.

Rafe: Yeah.

Hope: [Sighs]

Rafe: So... last night... you know, I just...

Hope: I have to admit, I didn't get very much sleep. I mean, partly because of this-- I don't know, this little stupid bug that I got, but mostly because of what you said last night.

Rafe: Hey, if you think that I crossed a line, I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna take back anything I said. I meant every word.

Hope: I know you did. I know that you're not the kind of guy who says that sort of thing lightly.

Rafe: Okay. But I did not say it expecting anything. All right? I was just being honest. If you want to tell me to go to hell, that's fine.

Hope: You know me better than that. And if I told you that I didn't share some of those same feelings, I'd be lying.

Rafe: Really?

Hope: But it doesn't mean I'm ready to act on them. I can't--I just, I can't-- I can't do that right now. Jumping into a new relationship just--it wouldn't be fair, definitely--

Rafe: All right, all right.

Hope: Rafe.

Rafe: What?

Hope: Definitely not fair to you.

[Erotic music]

Shawn: Mm-mm. Mm-mm. Mm-mm. Whoa. Mm-mm. No, no, no, no. No, no, no, no. This is where I draw the line. We are not gonna have sex on the conference table. We can't.

Lani: Do you prefer the chair?

Shawn: [Sighs] Look--no--it's not--just--aw, it's not gonna happen--we just-- it's just not gonna happen. We can't.

Lani: Why? Because it's wrong? Because someone could walk in and we'd be found out? Mm, I'm so scared.

Shawn: What, are you gonna make fun of me now? Come on.

Lani: I'm not making fun of you, Shawn, I'm just playing.

Shawn: I just--I did not know that you liked to live life so dangerously. What's up?

Lani: Well, there's a lot you don't know about me. At least not yet.

Shawn: And there is plenty of time for that, there is, but right now, I have work. I have to--I have work to do. I have to work. Okay.

Claire: So, you're not excited about prom?

Ciara: I'm just not in the right space for it right now.

Claire: Well, then why did you say "yes" to Theo?

Ciara: 'Cause I didn't want to hurt his feelings. It took a lot of courage for him to ask me.

Claire: Come on, Ciara. You have to think about this. Please. I mean, this'll be the last time that we're all together at a big high school event, and I know you'll regret it if you don't go.

Ciara: I'm not crazy about the '80s theme.

Claire: Oh, come on! The music was amazing back then. You got--got Duran Duran, Madonna, the cars, queen. Who doesn't love Freddie mercury?

Ciara: Okay, I'm down for queen.

Claire: Yeah, and--and--and the clothes. Uh, fishnet gloves, and leg warmers, and shoulder pads--I bet your mom might still have some of her old dresses from back then. And Ciara, we are going to kill it on the dance floor. There's no way that I'm gonna let you miss it.

Theo: Ciara wouldn't have kissed me if she didn't like me.

Abe: Uh--uh--that's true, but you know, a-- a kiss can mean different things. A kiss is sometimes just a way to say "thank you." Uh, it can be an expression of friendship. Not every kiss means "I love you."

Theo: You're just saying that because I have autism.

Abe: No, son. No, no. Not--not at all.

Theo: I'm not stupid, dad. Okay, she's kissed me a bunch of times. I know she really likes me.

Abe: Of course she does, and you have been a wonderfully supportive friend to Ciara. I--I just don't think you should push things with her.

Theo: Dad, Ciara is one of the people in my life that makes me happy, and I make her happy too, okay? Why won't you just let me live my life? You're so over-protective, dad. Just let me be me.

Abe: Theo, Theo, Theo. All I want is your happiness. I just don't want to see you get hurt.

Rafe: I'm gonna be honest with you.

Hope: You should always be honest.

Rafe: I think a lot of the emotional confusion that you're feeling is because you're fighting the one thing that you need. Love in your life.

Hope: And look how well that's worked out for me.

Rafe: Yeah, well, yes, you have had a hell of a time lately. Certainly more than your fair share of pain, and grief, and it's a wonder you're still standing.

Hope: I wouldn't be if I didn't have you as a friend.

Rafe: Which brings me to my next point. I think you're making it harder on yourself by being alone. You don't need to be. No...

Ciara: Hey, mom. Rafe.

Rafe: Hey.

Hope: Hey, girls.

Ciara: You, uh, want to go to the coffee shop?

Hope: No, um, you should stay. Please. Stay. Frustrated with your o

[Soft ballad music]

Shawn: Yeah, what--what's up?

Belle: I've been trying to reach you, and you haven't called me back. We need to talk.

Shawn: Look, I'm sorry, I've just been busy, I'm working. I'm just gonna grab some food--

Belle: Stop, stop. Please. Would you just sit down?

Shawn: Yeah, okay, what? What is it? What do you need?

Belle: [Clears throat] I want to give you these.

Shawn: You signed the divorce papers.

Belle: I'm ready to finalize our divorce, Shawn.

Hope: Can I get you girls something to eat or drink?

Ciara: Uh, we're good. Are you feeling better?

Hope: I am.

Claire: Actually, I'm kind of glad that you're both here. The prom theme this year is the '80s--

Ciara: Here we go.

Claire: See, Ciara hates the whole idea of the '80s theme, but I said that we could probably get some great ideas from you--I mean, the '80s was, like, your heyday, right?

Hope: I don't know whether I'd call it my heyday.

Rafe: Uh, you know, I'm gonna make this really simple for you. Big hair, Day-Glo, and mullets for the guys, I'm sorry to say.

Hope: I'd love to see some of those photos.

Rafe: No, I'm pretty sure all of those pictures have been destroyed.

Hope: Oh, probably not.

Rafe: I should get going. We'll finish our discussion later? Oh, and fanny packs, by the way. Really, a top fashion accessory.

Hope: I'm just gonna... follow him out. I'm just... I'll be right back. Rafe, wait. Please?

I want a great shape.

Belle: I think we're both moving on. I mean, you're dating that, uh, that detective you work with, right?

Shawn: It's nothing serious. Well, it isn't now, anyway.

Belle: But it's something. Listen, I'm--I'm happy for you. You deserve to have an uncomplicated relationship. Just, I think this is the right thing for both of us.

Lani: How's it going, belle?

Belle: It's good. Looks like you're good too. Bye, Shawn.

[Sad piano music]

Philip: No, that won't work either--I'm meeting with the designers to go over the label. Well, I'm sorry for the mix-up. Let me look at my schedule. I'll email you some other possibilities. Terrific. Talk to you soon. [Sighs]

Rafe: There something you want to say?

Hope: I just want you to know that you've given me a lot to think about.

Rafe: Well, you take all the time you need.

Hope: I think you're right.

Rafe: About?
