Steve: This is not a game, Ava. Now you tell me what you've done with Kayla.
Ava: I will... once you find our son.
Whoa, you just thought that through, didn't you? Just then, you wanted to kill me, but then you realized if you did that you would never see your wife again.
Steve: You bitch.
Ava: No, I am a mother trying to save her child. It makes me very determined. So don't even think about calling the cops, because they can arrest me, but they cannot make me talk. Nobody in this world is going to make me talk until I have my son back.
Steve: Even if I find this son you say we have, how do I know you'll hold up your end of the bargain?
Ava: Well, I just guess you're gonna have to trust me.
Rafe: Roman, how's it going with Eric?
Roman: Um... they're releasing him from the hospital tomorrow. Then he'll come straight here and, uh, turn himself in.
Rafe: I'm sorry.
Roman: I was just, uh, going over the possible sentences for vehicular manslaughter. Unfortunately, one of those possibilities is that Eric could be going to prison for the rest of his life.
Hope: The guacamole's in the fridge, and, honey, don't forget to take off the plastic wrap and please throw it away, okay?
Ciara: Oh, my God, that would--that's such a good tip. It makes it so much easier to dip that way.
Hope: Cut me a little slack, would you? Try to remember how remarkably wonderful your mother is to allow you to have this party in the first place, okay?
Ciara: You are beyond awesome. Hey, I know that you're worried about André and Stefano, but nobody's gonna try anything while there's a houseful of kids.
Hope: Yeah, I know that because people will be watching you 24-7, honey.
Ciara: Okay, but they're just watching, right? They're not gonna be spying on us?
Hope: No, I respect your privacy. They only notify me with something suspicious. Hey, this isn't going to be forever, I promise you that. Just till we know for sure the DiMeras are no longer a threat.
André: [Grunts] [Labored breathing] [Grunting] [Moans]
Steve: You know what? Kayla was right. We should have thrown you out on your bony ass the minute you showed up at our door.
Ava: Well, I would have come back... again and again and again. We have a son out there, patch, and I'm gonna do whatever it takes to get him back. And I would like to point out that it did not have to be this way. It didn't have to be adversarial, but Kayla forced my hand.
Steve: Oh, so this is Kayla's fault?
Ava: I know you don't like to hear anything bad about her, but she overreacted.
Steve: She wouldn't have been overreacting if she came at you with a lead pipe. And let me tell you something: Adversarial? That doesn't even come close to the way we feel about you.
Ava: Look, all I wanted was for you to find our son so I could die knowing that he was okay, and then Kayla went ballistic. She accused me of lying, of manipulating--
Steve: Because all you ever do is lie and manipulate.
Ava: I had to neutralize her. I'm not gonna let her or anybody else stop me from finding my son.
Steve: Oh, yeah, so assault and kidnapping and blackmail, that's all justifiable?
Ava: I didn't want it to be this way. I wanted us to be able to work together to find him. God, would you just think about what Kayla would have done if--if Joey was out there and he--he was all alone?
Steve: Let me tell you something: If anything happens to her, I'm gonna make you wish you were dead.
Ava: It's not really a threat, patch. I'm almost dead already. So just find our son.
Steve: If he exists, I will, but in the meantime, I'm not letting you out of my sight.
Ciara: Mom, Mom, I can handle this.
Hope: What? Uh, oh, okay.
Chase: She's right, hope. Everything's gonna be fine.
Hope: All right, but promise me, both of you, you'll call me if you need me, okay? Anything.
Chase: Promise, promise.
Ciara: Yeah, me too. Bye, Mom.
Hope: Bye, honey.
Ciara: Hey, and I'm on to you, okay? Don't pretend like you forgot something to come check up on us.
Hope: You have a suspicious mind. I love you. Love you too. Bye, honey.
Ciara: Thanks, Mom, really.
Hope: Bye, have fun.
Hope: Okay, bye.
[Cell phone beeps]
Hope: Hey, I'm leaving now. Yeah, uh, call me if anything seems off or any sign of André DiMera.
Lani: So, Theo, less than one month till pitchers and catchers. I can't wait. Can you?
Abe: Theo, we talked about this. It's rude to look at your phone while we're at dinner.
[Cell phone chimes]
Theo: Oh, well, it's from Ciara. I'm late for the party. Almost done?
Abe: Yes, we're almost done.
Lani: So how long have you and Ciara been friends?
Theo: Since we were little.
Abe: You know, they are great friends. When Bo died, Theo talked to Ciara about losing his mother. She said it was a great help.
Lani: That's great, but is that it, Theo? Or--I mean, are you guys just friends?
Theo: Yes, but it would be nice if, you know...
Lani: [Laughs] I think I do.
Abe: Look, um, be careful, son, okay? I don't want you getting hurt.
Theo: Dad, Ciara's not gonna do anything to hurt me... ever.
Joey: Hey, sorry I'm late.
Ciara: Uh, dude, you smell like a brewery.
Joey: Wow, this party's off to a great start. So I had a couple of beers, big deal.
Ciara: Yeah, more than a couple.
Joey: Look, today sucked, okay? I don't need a lecture from you right now.
Chase: This is smooth going. You do know there are guards watching the house, right? And if they see somebody drunk at the party, they're gonna come shut it down.
Joey: Hey, what is this, a party or an AA meeting?
Chase: I'm gonna go get him something to eat.
Joey: Man, the two of you, talk about a buzzkill.
Henry: Hey, watch it, dude. God, look at my shirt.
Joey: Don't want to, dude. It's way ugly.
Henry: [Scoffs] Okay, this is where anyone who's not a jerk says sorry.
Joey: Who the hell are you calling a jerk?
Chase: Whoa, whoa, okay, let it go.
Henry: Screw you, man.
Ciara: Hey, dude, that is so not cool. Settle down, or I'm gonna call your mom.
Joey: Man, what a bunch of losers. I'm out of here.
[Rock music playing]
Roman: Do you think hope meant it when she said she might quit the department?
Rafe: Oh, I don't know. I-I'm just glad that she realized that she needed to take a leave of absence. She needs to think-- think about a lot of things, sort some stuff out. A lot of stuff happened in a very short amount of time.
Roman: That is an understatement.
Rafe: You know, as a matter of fact, um, I'm actually going with hope and chase and Ciara up to the Horton cabin this weekend.
Roman: So... what exactly do you expect from her?
Eric: I know that I'm gonna pay for what I did, and I accept it.
Eric: What I can't stand is what I put my parents and my family through.
Hope: It's your first offense. Maybe the judge will be lenient.
Eric: The length of my sentence doesn't really matter. Till I die, I'll live with what I did. I took a life. There are consequences for that. Thank you for coming. I should really get back to reading. Hoping to find an answer in here somewhere.
Hope: I'm sorry.
Eric: Hey, don't be. You didn't do anything wrong.
[Echoing] I took a life. I took a life. There are consequences for that, consequences for that.
Rafe: Hope's my friend. That's it.
Roman: So you're, uh, just looking after her.
Rafe: Yeah, that's right.
Roman: You do know that's how I met Marlena. So I do happen to have firsthand knowledge on just how easy it is to get close--real close to someone you're protecting.
Rafe: Yes, like Sami and me. Occupational hazard.
Roman: Well, then you start having feelings for that person. And then you start losing your objectivity.
Rafe: Okay, I don't think that taking hope to the Horton cabin with chase and Ciara to get her away from all this is necessarily crossing a line.
Roman: I am not talking to you as your superior officer. I'm talking to you as hope's brother-in-law. She's been through a lot.
Roman: Way too much. She's very vulnerable, and if she gets hurt in any way, that is on you.
Ciara: An audition to Juilliard? Claire, that's awesome.
Claire: You think so?
Ciara: Yeah. Don't you?
Claire: I don't know. My whole family's just so screwed up right now. I don't know if it's a good time for me to leave. I'm trying to get my mom and dad to talk to each other, so...
Ciara: You're a kid, not a marriage counselor.
Claire: Well, your parents split up and got back together.
Ciara: Yeah, but not from anything that the kids did, and the hardest thing about having parents is realizing that at some point, you have to let them go, let them live their own lives and let them make their own mistakes.
Claire: They still need me.
Ciara: Claire, I know it seems that way, but...
Claire: But what?
Ciara: Maybe you're just using them as an excuse not to audition. You know, fear of failure. And the thing is that if you don't audition, you're always gonna wonder what if.
Chase: This is the last caramel mocha. Angela delasorio was moving in on it.
Ciara: My hero.
Chase: My work here is done.
Claire: Yes, chase, I was standing here breathing, existing.
Claire: Okay, Ciara, he didn't even know that I was standing here, and the reason for that is, he's totally crushing on you.
[Dance music playing]
Ava: We have to say good-bye.
Joey: I love her. Why can't she love me back?
Steve: Don't move.
Ava: Can I help you?
Ava: Where are you gonna start looking?
Steve: That's what I'm trying to figure out.
Says here the doctor's name was Calhoun. Do you remember him?
Ava: Not really.
Steve: You don't know if he had anything to do with selling the baby?
Ava: No, I mean, my father found him. I really didn't have any say in the matter.
Steve: How old was he? Do you know?
Ava: Middle-aged? I-I don't know. I don't know. What--what difference does it make?
Steve: I'm hoping he's still alive.
Ava: Okay. That makes sense.
Ava: You ever think about our baby? I know that when you saw the pictures, you said that you thought he looked like me, but I always thought he had your mouth. Every night before I go to bed, I think about him and I wonder what he'd be like.
Steve: Don't talk.
Ava: Come on, don't you wonder what your son would be like?
Steve: I'll wonder that when I know that he is my son. You don't have a great history when it comes to telling the truth.
Ava: Come on. You know I would not lie about something like this.
Steve: Yeah, you would. To get what you want, you would lie about anything.
[Cell phone ringing]
Ava: No, no, just let it go to voice mail.
Steve: It's my son-- the one I know is my son.
[Cell phone beeps]
Steve: Hey, Joe, what's up?
Joey: Dad, I'm screwed up.
Steve: You've been drinking?
Joey: Yeah. I need to come home. I can't drive.
Steve: Where are you?
Joey: I'm--I'm at the square.
Steve: Okay, I'll be right there.
Ava: Is everything okay? Is he drunk?
Steve: What he is is none of your damn business.
Ava: Oh, patch, some things have never changed, hmm? Oh. You always did like it a little bit rough.
Steve: You know, I have some duct tape for that mouth. I'd be happy to use it.
Theo: I haven't heard from Nonno in a long time. Did he go on a trip?
Abe: You know, I don't know. If I run into him, I'll tell him to call you.
Lani: Okay, Theo, you can go. I just paid the bill.
Abe: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. I have got this.
Lani: It was my way of saying thanks for making me feel at home here in Salem.
Abe: Well, I'm glad to hear that, but you didn't have to do this.
Lani: It's okay.
Abe: But we do appreciate it. Theo.
Theo: Thank you, Lani.
Lani: Oh, my pleasure.
[Cell phone chimes]
Theo: I will see you guys later.
Abe: Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa. Well, you have fun, huh?
Abe: Theo, what's wrong?
[Cell phone beeps]
Lani: Is it another one of those anonymous texts?
Theo: You were supposed to keep that a secret.
Abe: What-- what was that all about?
Lani: He's been getting texts. There's a cyberbully out there.
Abe: And Theo doesn't know who it is.
Lani: I offered to help, but he won't talk about it, let alone do anything about it.
Abe: All right. We need to find out who it is. We need to catch this creep.
Lani: I couldn't agree with you more.
Abe: All right.
Joey: Dad. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Steve: Okay, okay. It's a good thing you called me.
Joey: Uh, I was gonna get on the bike, but then I thought about Eric.
Steve: That was just before you called me, right? And were you thinking about him before? I mean, you drove here drunk, didn't you?
Joey: I know--I know it was stupid.
Joey: I know it was stupid, and I'm sorry.
Steve: I know you are. Give me these. I'll drive us home. I'm hanging on to this. You screwed up big-time.
I wish I could spare you from some of the crap that life throws at you, but actions have consequences. Nobody knows that better than me.
[Dance music playing]
Ciara: Chase does not have a crush on me.
Claire: No? Okay, he's--he's always listening to your every word. He's fighting cupcake wars on your behalf.
Ciara: He gave it to me and then went back to his friends.
Claire: Yeah, because he's trying to play it cool. You know, he probably wants to make sure you won't freak out when he makes his move. Wait, what? He already made his move, didn't he?
Ciara: Okay, he kissed me, but then he said it was a mistake.
Claire: Okay, a--a mistake? He just, like, tripped with his lips pursed and happened to bump into your face or something?
Ciara: Come on. His dad had just died. He wasn't even thinking straight.
Claire: Okay, and he told you that after you were less than thrilled that he kissed you, right? Or were you thrilled but played hard to get?
Ciara: I was not thrilled.
Claire: Okay, then you're nuts. Look at him. He's really cute, he has great taste in music, and he's not a total bore like most boys his age.
Ciara: Well, uh, then make a move.
Claire: Wait, what?
Ciara: Come on, Claire, you're obviously crushing on him, so go for it.
Claire: Okay, Ciara, he barely notices me.
Ciara: Well, then make him.
Claire: [Laughs softly]
Hope: Hey, hi.
Hope: You busy?
Rafe: Oh, just getting caught up on some paperwork.
Hope: Good for you.
Rafe: Yeah, another two hours, I'll only be five months behind.
Hope: I, um, stopped by the pub. Dutch apple pie, your favorite.
Rafe: Actually, it's your favorite. That's all right, though. I'll share it with you.
Hope: That's nice of you.
Rafe: Oh, it was the two forks you brought that gave me the idea. So what's happening? Just thought I needed some apple pie?
Hope: No, I, um-- I wanted to talk to you. I started to remember about-- about that night.
Rafe: Oh, yeah?
Hope: It's nothing really specific. It's just... I see Stefano. I see him smiling. You know that awful smile he had when... he was twisting the knife inside you?
Hope: And then I feel angry, really angry.
Rafe: I'm sorry.
Hope: I just don't know what to do. I don't know how to deal with it.
Rafe: Well, I think getting away is a good start.
Hope: You know, um, at first, I was kind of upset with Ciara for roping you into coming with us this weekend, but now I-- I'm kind of happy that you are coming.
Rafe: Me too.
Frustrated with your overactive bladder medicine not working?
Claire: So I-I saw that the Salem u film society is showing "breathless" and "the harder they fall."
Claire: It's just 'cause of, um, Belmondo looking at the poster of Bogart.
Claire: Um, I-I thought that you and I could go, you know, like--
Chase: Like, as a date?
Claire: Yeah, I guess, yeah.
Chase: Um, Claire, I'm-- you know I have a lot going on right now. I'm not really dating.
Claire: Right, right, sorry.
Chase: No, I'm--I'm sorry. I just--I--
Claire: No, okay, don't-- don't worry about it. Okay, no problem. Um, what about Ciara? Would you go out with Ciara?
Chase: Now, what made you ask that?
Claire: Just the way you look at her. You should really let her know how you feel.
Chase: Well, that really wouldn't do any good. She just sees me as a friend. Actually, kind of worse than that. She sees me as a stepbrother she has to deal with. It would just freak her out.
Okay, no, you're totally wrong about that.
Chase: Maybe, but... you know, I don't really feel like talking about it.
[Dance music playing]
Joey: What the hell? Why are you handcuffed?
Ava: I think I should let your father explain.
Steve: She kidnapped your mother. She's holding her hostage.
Joey: What? She kidnapped Mom? Why?
Steve: To get me to do something she wants me to do.
Joey: No, that doesn't make any sense. Ava helped me get you and Mom back together.
Steve: Yeah. Why don't you tell him what happened, Ava?
Ava: Look, Joey, honey, um, your mom and I, we got into a fight after you left.
Joey: About me?
Ava: She had a few issues she wanted to get off of her chest, and things got a little, um... out of control.
Ava: And I knocked her out. Look, she was really angry, Joey. I felt very threatened by her.
Joey: Where is she? Is she okay?
Steve: I don't know.
Ava: She's fine, all right?
Joey: You hurt her. Where is she? You need to tell us right now.
Ava: Sweetheart, I cannot tell you, because she's my only leverage right now, but I promise you, I will let her go as soon as your father does his duty.
Joey: What does that mean?
Steve: She wants me to find her son.
Joey: Why does she want you to find her son?
Ava: You know what? It's actually--it's really good news. I think you're gonna be very happy.
Joey: About what?
Steve: She says I'm the boy's father.
Rafe: I got some good news today.
Hope: Oh, I could definitely use some good news. It's hot in here.
Rafe: That building where we buried Stefano? It was demolished today. Right on schedule. And tomorrow they pour the new concrete foundation. So that phoenix, it will never rise again.
Hope: I should be relieved, but I can't stop thinking about André. He's such a wild card. He's so convinced that I am responsible for Stefano's disappearance. You know he's not gonna stop until he knows the truth.
Rafe: Okay, but trust me. After that explosion, there is nothing to find.
Hope: Then he'll do what the DiMeras always do-- go after my children.
Rafe: No one's getting past those guards. And Andrés's laying low right now. He's off the radar. Maybe he won't be a problem anymore.
Hope: I want to believe that.
André: [Grunting] [Gasps] [Labored breathing] Ooh. [Labored breathing] [Groaning] Ah! [Moaning]
Abe: Theo. Theo, wait. Lani told you everything, didn't she?
Abe: Yes, she had to. She's worried about you. I am too. Now, why didn't you tell me about this bully?
Theo: It's not a big deal.
Abe: It is. We need to find out who he is. You may not be the only person he's harassing.
Theo: Just leave it alone. Just leave it alone.
Abe: [Sighs] If it's that important to you, I will.
Theo: It is.
Dad, w-- why are people so mean?
Abe: That's not an easy question. People your age are trying to find out who they are, and sometimes someone will pick someone to be their scapegoat as a way to handle the bad feelings they have about themselves.
Theo: Yeah, I think-- I think whoever is doing it wants me to hate them back. I don't want to.
Abe: Yeah, hey... it's not easy. I'm proud of you for trying.
Ciara: Hey, how'd it go with chase?
Claire: He's not interested in me. He made that pretty clear.
Henry: [Clears throat] Claire, you want a lift?
Claire: Yes, thank you.
Claire: All right, good night, guys.
Henry: Later, guys.
Claire: Great party.
Ciara: Bye, everybody.
Ciara: So weird that Theo never showed up.
Chase: Maybe he had something to do with his family.
Ciara: Yeah, maybe. So I saw you and Claire talking. Seemed pretty intense.
[Door latch clicking]
Hope: Hi, how'd it go?
Ciara: Um, great. Kind of exhausted, though.
Hope: Oh, uh, then go on up.
Ciara: The house is a mess.
Hope: Don't worry about it. I'll, um--I'll take care of it.
Ciara: Ah, I owe you.
Hope: Love you. Bye, honey. Hey, hi.
Hope: Okay, well, um, let's see how bad the kitchen is.
Ava: It is good news. You have a brother.
Steve: Joe, I don't know if that's true or not.
Joey: But it could be true?
Steve: Yes, but I'm not gonna trust her word. I need proof.
Ava: I gave you proof. You have a whole stack of proof over there. Look at his blood type.
Steve: Oh, come on, that could all be forged. Your father taught you everything he knew, didn't he?
Ava: The only way to get proof is a paternity test, and for that, you need a child. So if you want to be sure, go find our child.
Joey: Why didn't you tell me any of this?
Ava: I couldn't. I-I had to be careful. All right? I had to make sure that everything was just right before I told your father. I had to win his trust.
Steve: Yeah, and when she didn't, she kidnapped your mother. Joe, you can't trust her on any level about anything. She's been playing us all along.
Joey: Including me.
Ava: Look, sweetie, you wanted your parents back together. I made it happen.
Joey: Dad, what are you gonna do?
Steve: I will do anything I have to to bring your mom home.
Ava: Just like I knew you would.
Roman: That's my boy. That's my boy. That's my boy.
Steve: Joe, you should go to your room, Joey, get some sleep, huh?
Joey: I thought you were my friend.
Ava: I'm so sorry, Joe, but I had to do this for my son.
Steve: Come on.
Ava: Mm, patch... look, it's just you and me and some handcuffs. [Laughs] It's just like old times.
Steve: I can get that duct tape if you want me to.
Ava: You know, all I ever wanted was for you to forgive me so we could find our child. But all this time being with you, spending time and seeing you again, I have to tell you, it-- it's reminded me about how much I loved you, and I still do.
Steve: Ava, baby, I would rather dig out my good eye with a spoon than ever be with you again. So you can forget whatever crazy ideas you have in that head of yours. You and I are never getting back together.
[Cell phone rings]
[Cell phone beeps]
Hope: Hey, Rafe, something wrong?
Rafe: No, I just wanted to make sure that you got home okay.
Hope: Yeah, I'm--I'm home. I'm in the house now. Thanks for checking.
Rafe: Okay, yeah. Well, good night.
Hope: See you first thing tomorrow morning. Night.
Rafe: Good night.
[Cell phone beeps]
[Groans] Damn you... hope.
