Steve: Kayla, call me, baby. I want to know how you're doing. This is the fourth or fifth message now. The deal is dial. I love you.

[Phone beeps]

Steve: You off to school?

Joey: Uh, yeah.

Steve: You haven't heard from your mom, have you?

Joey: Uh, just that message she sent about how she'd be out of touch for a while.

Steve: Yeah. Well, there's a while and then there's a while. You'd think she would have called before she went into that meeting.

Joey: Yeah, well, who knows why anybody does anything?

Steve: What? Joe.

Rafe: No, no, no. Of course I'm not too busy. So, where's your mom?

Ciara: Um, she's upstairs.

Rafe: Okay, your call sounded urgent. Is everything okay? Did something happen?

Ciara: Oh, yeah, um, no need to worry. Everybody's fine. It's just, uh, I have a question to ask you.

Rafe: Okay.

Ciara: Um, how do you feel about fishing?

Rafe: [Huffs]

[Suspenseful music]

Okay, I hear you, I hear you. Trust me, no homeless people would want to stay down here. It smells like hell.

Chad: Excuse me, my brother told me to meet him at that building over there but it's all blocked off. You know what's going on?

Yeah, that building? Going to blow it in the next few minutes.

This floor's good. All clear.

Steve: Dr. Brady never checked in? Well, were you overbooked?

[Tense music]

Okay, did she say where she was going instead? No. All right. Thanks.

[Phone beeps]

Rafe: Fishing? As in fishing for clues or as in stabbing a poor little worm, putting it on a hook, and throwing him in the water?

Ciara: Yeah, that.

Rafe: Is this a trick question?

Ciara: No, you see, mom was wanting to take chase and me to the Horton cabin on smith island.

Rafe: Okay.

Ciara: You know, like, r and r, hiking, maybe build a snowman, kick back, relax.

Rafe: Right.

Ciara: And uh, she was hoping if you would come with us.

Rafe: She said that?

Hope: You know what I think?

I think someone is putting her own spin on things.

Rafe: Ah, okay. So what's the real story?

Chad: Seriously, you guys are blowing that building?

Yeah. That's why it's all blocked off.

Chad: It's just so weird. Why would he tell me to meet him... it's 248 Hudson, route 43, yeah?

Yeah. What, is he on the rigging crew?

Chad: No, he-- what the hell? Why would he tell me to meet him in a building that's about to be demolished? Oh, I guess I heard wrong. Thank you.

André: [Exhales sharply] Oh, my God.

[Suspenseful music]

Steve: Ava.

[Solemn music]

[Phone beeps]

[Receiver rings]

[Phone rings]

Ava: [Sighs] Hi, Joey.

Joey: Hey, listen. Um--

Ava: Sweetie, we talked, remember? You have to let go. I'm serious, we can't be together and you have to stop calling and you gave to stop texting and then--

Joey: Please, listen to me, okay? I can't just walk away. We never even got to finish that talk. My mom ruined it, just-- I have to see you again. Please. Meet me?

Ave: Honey, I am so sorry, but hey, listen. You did a great thing by helping me get your mom and dad back together again, but that is all it can be, all right? You have to say good-bye.

Joey: No, I can't. Please, just meet me one last time, okay? I'm going to lose my mind if you say no.

Ciara: The true story is what I said. Uh, we're going to the Horton cabin.

Rafe: Mm-hmm.

Hope: That'll work.

Rafe: Yeah, except your mom didn't say anything about me tagging along, butting into a family outing, right?

Ciara: But you're not butting in. I mean, you practically are family. I mean, you guys work together, you finish each other's sentences, and okay, I'm going to be honest. You just look like you can use some downtime.

Rafe: Oh.

Hope: Ciara.

Ciara: So what do you say? Some fresh air? Open in the country? No noise? Think about it. All right, bye.

Hope: Bye, honey.

Rafe: Take care.

Ciara: See ya.

[Warm music]

Rafe: [Chuckles] You want to tell me what's going on?

André: Father? Father, oh, no. I'm here, father. It's André. Father. [Whimpers]

[Dramatic music]

As long as you stay behind this line, you'll be safe, pal. Hey, enjoy the show. Here we go. Ten, nine, eight...

André: [Panting]

Four, three, two, one.

Hope: Anyway, um, it started off as a way of getting Ciara and chase out of town-- here's some coffee-- for a while.

Rafe: Yeah. Until the business with André dies down.

Hope: Yeah, exactly. But now, she's insisting that I go with them. As far as going out on the island, that's the first I had heard of it.

Rafe: Really?

Hope: Yeah.

Rafe: Hm. She called me, she said you both needed to talk to me.

Hope: What can I say? My daughter set you up. And me. I-- I didn't know about this.

Rafe: Okay. Why? What's she thinking?

Chad: So when I got there, it turned out to be an abandoned building that was about to be demolished, and André wasn't even there. Called him, went straight to voicemail.

Abigail: Why would he want you to meet him at a place like that?

Chad: No idea. Maybe he wants me demolished? Anyway, you know, I called to check to see if maybe DiMera enterprises owned it, but they don't.

Abigail: You sure he wasn't inside somewhere?

Chad: I hope not, for his sake. I watched them blow it up. The whole thing imploded in, like, 30 seconds.

Abigail: Well, I guess he's going to try to call and re-schedule obviously, but frankly, I mean, I think you should just stay away from André.

Chad: Couldn't agree more. I didn't even want to meet him in the first place.

Abigail: Well, then, just say no. I mean, you have a wedding to plan and you have to find a house and it's--

Chad: I will.

Abigail: It's true. See? Look, we have--[Clears throat] A perfect bridal magazine right here to start planning with. No, I'm serious. Come on. Come on, we have to start.

[Suspenseful music]

Ava: Hey, you.

Joey: Hey.

Ava: So what happened to school?

Joey: I couldn't stand that stupid building. That place is suffocating. Besides, all I've been doing is thinking about you. Hoping that you'd let me talk to you about this.

Ava: Let's sit.

Joey: I'm really glad you came. It means a lot.

Ava: Well, I'm glad you called because I realized I just couldn't walk away.

Joey: Really?

Ava: Yeah. Not without giving you something very special. A gift to remember me by. Season tickets for the cubs. You can go any time you want, bring your friends, whatever you like. Okay, but there is just one deal there, okay? Whenever you're sitting there in that seat, I want you to remember that if I could, I would be sitting right next to you, as close as possible.

Joey: Well... I don't need a gift. I don't want to be reminded of you. I want to be with you. Ava, we have something. We really have something and we can't just throw that away.

Ava: We're not, sweetie. We are making an adult decision.

Joe: But, I mean, to never see each other again? That's-- I mean, can't we be friends? Hang out?

Ava: It would just be that much harder.

Joey: No, it's okay. I can take it. I mean, at least I'd-- at least I'd be able to be with you.

Ava: Okay, Joey, you need to understand, okay? This needs to be a clean break. You need to live your life and you need to forget about me.

Joey: Ava, I can't do that, okay? Listen to me. We don't have to split up. I figured it out. We don't have to keep living in this stupid town. We can run away together, just you and me.

[Ominous music]

Steve: Ah. [Sighs]

[Drawer opens]

[Objects rattle]

Oh, my God. It's from that charm bracelet I gave Kayla.

Rafe: But why would Ciara want me to go with you guys?

Hope: Because I, um... I told her the truth, Rafe. That André thinks I'm responsible for Stefano's disappearance. Of course I told her I wasn't, but still.

Rafe: Right, you needed to give her a reason to leave town and take chase with her.

Hope: And now she can't let go of the idea that I could be in danger as well.

Rafe: So she wants you to go with her.

Hope: Which is how she got in her head that you should come along. Rafe, I'm sorry that she put you in such an awkward position.

Rafe: Hey, it's no biggie, right? Relax.

Hope: So what do you think? Should I go with them? Or should I stay here and deal with André head-on?

Ciara: Hey.

Chase: Hey. Where have you been?

Ciara: I decided to wait with my mom till Rafe came over.

Chase: Oh, I thought you were going to talk to her about the party.

Ciara: Oh yeah. Uh, never got around to it, actually. Anyway, we decided to go to the family cabin for a few days.

Chase: Why?

Ciara: Uh, just some case my mom's been working on. Kind of a safety thing. Rafe's coming too.

Chase: Rafe.

Ciara: Yeah. Hopefully. So it'll just be the four of us.

Chase: On an island in a cabin?

Ciara: Yeah.

Chase: Yeah, that just sounds weird. I'm not going to go.

[Ominous music]

Steve: Sweetness, listen, will you just call me or text me, please?

[Phone beeps]

Steve: [Sighs]

[Receiver rings]

Ava. You call me when you get this, and I mean immediately.

Joe. That's how I'm going to find you.

Ava: You are so sweet. And I can't tell you how much I would love to be able to run away together.

Joey: We can. I mean, why not? I've got no reason to stay here. Neither do you. I mean, you're the only good thing in my life.

[Solemn music]

If we go away together, it'll be like I have everything I want.

Ava: Oh. [Chuckles] You make me want to cry. When you say things like that, it's just--like, honey, you know, we can't. We can't.

Joey: Sure we can.

Ava: Okay, let's just think a second, okay? I--I don't have long to live.

Joey: We'll go somewhere. We'll go to Mexico. We'll find a cure.

Ava: Okay. That is a really incredible thought, but it's not going to happen.

Joey: Yes, it will. We'll make it happen. I can't be without you. I love you.

Ava: Joey...

I love you too.

Chad: All right, well, let me know if you hear anything else, will you? Okay. All right, thank you, lo.

[Phone beeps]

Abigail: Lois? Is that the real estate agent?

Chad: Yeah.

Abigail: [Gasps] Did she find us our perfect little palace yet?

Chad: No.

Abigail: Aw.

Chad: She told me that... my father stopped making his mortgage payments about a year ago. And that the bank just got an expedited ruling from the court and they're foreclosing on the mansion.

Abigail: Wait, why would Stefano even have a mortgage?

Chad: Well, when he took DiMera Enterprises private, he took a mortgage on the house to raise cash. Then there was the whole failure to pay his taxes and the state fiasco and Sami cleaned out all his bank accounts. Who knows? I don't know, maybe just forgot to make the payments. I mean, nothing he's done lately has made any sense at all, so--

Abigail: Well, how long until the bank forecloses?

Chad: One week.

Abigail: Chad, do not get sucked into this, okay? It's not your problem.

Chad: Right, yeah.

Abigail: You have to remember what André did. I say get away and stay away.

Chad: Yeah, well, and I will, but... I should at least--I should at least try to save the house.

Abigail: What, why? Why, Chad? You didn't even grow up there.

Chad: No, but when my mother died and I found out who my father was, I did live there. For a number of years. I mean, it's not like I can't afford to save it.

Abigail: I mean, that house must be worth, like, millions.

Chad: [Chuckles] Yes and no. I mean, the bank knows that nobody's going to want to bid on it because of its obvious reputation. The bank just wants the loan money back so all they have to do is foreclose on it, take possession. They could sell it to me in the same day.

Abigail: I know your family has a lot of money, Chad, I get it.

Chad: No, they did. Or they do. I mean, I don't even know what's going on but I'm independent. Every time my father took a pile of cash and shoved it into one of my bank accounts because he was trying to impress me--

Abigail: Trying to buy your love maybe?

Chad: Yes. I didn't blow it. I invested it. Plus he set up an irrevocable trust so there's that money. I could save the house. It's not going to be cheap but I could do it. I could do it.

[Suspenseful music]

Abigail: What?

Chad: I mean, I just-- I mean, I had to stop. Like, if we didn't know that Stefano DiMera ever lived in that house I bet you-- I bet you that you would think that was a perfect little palace for us.

Abigail: No. Are you out of your mind, Chad?

Chad: What's the problem? I definitely think my wife and my son deserve a mansion.

Abigail: We don't need a mansion, Chad. We don't. We just need a little condo or something. And I'm not going to live with Stefano and André at all, and I'm not going to let my son live with either of them, either.

Chad: Okay, well, first of all, my father went off to Europe or somewhere and he's probably not going to be back so he's not a problem, and André, I would love to kick him out.

Abigail: You're serious about this?

Chad: Yeah. Yeah, I think--I mean, I am. Okay, but you're not.

Abigail: [Scoffs]

Chad: Okay, well, then I'm just--I'm going to--I'm going to find a way to change your mind. Let's get Thomas.

Abigail: Where are you--where are we going?

Chad: Come on, I'll show you. Let's go.

[Solemn music]

Ciara: Why don't you want to go?

Chase: I just don't.

Ciara: There has to be a reason.

Chase: To not want to go to an island in the middle of winter? I mean, what are we going to do? We're going to hunt deer?

Ciara: There aren't any deer, but it's the perfect place to go fishing.

Chase: Okay, well, you have fun with that.

Ciara: I will, and so will you if you stop being so negative.

Chase: I am not being negative. Okay. If detective Hernandez is going to be there, I mean, with what my dad did, I don't--I wouldn't feel comfortable just hanging out and pretending like nothing happened, okay?

Ciara: Chase, come on. You've got to let that go. Rafe is a cool guy. Come on, you've met him. He's really nice.

He's in love with my mom.

Chase: Really?

Ciara: Totally. I need your help making sure they get together.

Chase: No, no way.

Ciara: Why?

Chase: Because, Ciara. My dad married your mom, and-- and then he... God, this is just so screwed up. It just--it never stops, does it?

Ciara: Chase, come on. Deep breaths. I mean, you got--you got to stop doing that, making your life about your dad. He was out of his mind. That's over. And right now, my mom is lonely and she went through hell when my dad died.

Chase: Yeah, so did you.

Ciara: Yeah. I did. Chase, you have to come, okay? I can't do this alone. It'd only be for a few days.

Chase: [Sighs] I don't know why I let you talk me into this stuff.

Ciara: Thank you.

Chase: Yeah, okay, so if we're going to try to get them together, it's not like we can shoot cupid arrows or whatever. I don't know. We'll have to give them a lot of alone time, I guess.

Ciara: Right. We will. We'll go hiking. I'll download some movies before we leave. It'll be fun.

Chase: Yeah. Yeah, it could be.

Ciara: It will be. Thanks again.

Chase: Yeah.

Ciara: You always come through for me.

Chase: So about the party.

Ciara: Uh...

Chase: Is that still happening?

Ciara: Yeah, of course. Duh.

[Phone beeps]

Ciara: Oh, uh, sorry.

Rafe: There's no question, hope. You go with them. There's no telling what André might do.

Hope: The building where we put the body is being demolished today, right?

Rafe: Yeah, I know. It may already be history.

Hope: And when they clear the rubble, I mean, there's no chance-- Rafe: No, there's no ch--they use those compactor trucks, you know, the ones they use to crush cars in the junkyard. I've seen it. The thing is this, just because André doesn't have any proof that doesn't mean he's going to stop looking.

Hope: He is so positive I somehow made Stefano disappear.

Rafe: And I helped you cover it up. Like I said, he's going to keep digging. Best thing for you and your family to do is to get out of town and get off the grid.

Hope: Okay. Done. But what about you?

Rafe: Do you mean am I coming with you?

Joey: I knew you loved me.

[Warm music]

You make me so happy. You're the best.

Ava: No, wait, honey, honey, honey, honey-- no, wait, it's... because I love you so much, I have to be honest with you. Running away would be wrong on so many levels.

Joey: No.

Ava: Yeah, listen to me. I would never ask you to leave your family. We worked so hard to get them back together, remember?

Joey: No, it's not--

Ava: Listen. They're happy now. If you left, they'd be miserable.

Joey: It's not like we're never going to call them--

Ava: Secondly, there's my health. Or lack of it. You have your whole life to live and I would be heartbroken knowing that you spent any of it taking care of me.

Joey: Ava. Ava: We have to say good-bye.

If you love me the way that you say you do, you'll do what I'm asking.

Go back to school now. Go be yourself. Be free. Be happy. Always.

I am so glad that I met you. But it has to end now.

So please go.

Okay. Now to my next little problem.

[Dramatic music]

[Optimistic music]

Abigail: Chad. Chad, this place is-- I'm not going to be-- I mean, look at it. It's so dark. And the couch, this heavy furniture, I mean--

Chad: Abby, Abby. Shh, shh. Abby, Abby, Abby, Abby, Abby. Hey, take a breath. Take a breath. Okay? The house is just a bunch of rooms. It's walls and a ceiling and floors, but when it's ours? Close your eyes. Trust me, close your eyes. Close 'em. 'Kay. Now I want you to imagine this room without all these old books, with none of the creepy dim lighting all over the place. This terrible wallpaper, all these gross mirrors. And I want you to imagine that the walls are painted a beautiful light color. Okay? And Thomas's--Thomas's toys are scattered all over the floor and there's pictures of us all over the entire house. Open your eyes. Wait, and then daisy's nursery is upstairs right by Thomas's.

Abigail: Daisy?

Chad: Our daughter.

Oh, what's that? Is that fluffy barking?

Abigail: Fluffy?

Chad: Yeah, it's a perfect name for a cute little dog who's going to chase balls and play with Thomas.

Abigail: I'm not sure about the name.

Chad: Well, it doesn't have to be fluffy. We can name him--

Abigail: I meant daisy.

Chad: Oh.

Abigail: And, no, if our second kid's going to be a girl, Chad. Maybe we'll have a boy.

Chad: Okay, well, you can name our second child any name you want. And our third and our fourth.

Abigail: Oh, really, we're going to having a large family, then.

Chad: Yeah, this is our future. We might as well dream as big as we can.

Ciara: Hey, Joey. Hey, hey, what's up?

Joey: Hey.

Ciara: Hey, are you coming to my kickback tonight?

Joey: Uh, what? Oh, um, yeah. I don't think I'm going to make it.

Ciara: Why not? Wait, what's going on? You look like you just lost your best friend.

Joey: Whatever.

Ciara: Did you get chewed out by Mr. Ryder again? I mean, what is up with that guy? It's like he has ESP or something, like, he can just look at you and know that you haven't read the chapter.

Joey: Yeah. [Clears throat]

Ciara: Yeah, well, you don't have to see him again until Wednesday. I really hope you come tonight. It won't be the same without you, okay?

Ava: What's with you? Patch, are you stalking me?

Steve: No. I was tracking my son in case he decided to hang out with you again.

Ava: Well, aren't you the trusting father? Look, for your information, your son is a real sweetheart. He's the real deal, and I'm sure he would never leave someone at the altar.

Steve: Don't get cute. You used him. You got his hormones going so you could--

Ava: Okay, okay, I'm sorry. Should I have run away with him? Because that was his last idea.

Steve: What?

Ava: Yeah, um, according to him we are going to go to Mexico, we're going to find a cure for leukemia, and then live happily ever after.

Steve: Oh, man. You really did a number on him, didn't you?

Ava: If you're interested, I said no.

Steve: I'll deal with him later. Right now, I want to know where Kayla is.

Ava: Isn't she out of town?

Steve: See this? This is from Kayla's bracelet. Do you want to explain to me why I found it on the floor in your room?

Ava: You broke into my room? Should I call the cops?

Steve: Just answer the question!

Ava: Well, listen, if it is where you said it was, then I'm sure she dropped it when she came to see me.

Steve: Dropped it? Huh? Or maybe it broke off when the two of you had some kind of scuffle?

Ava: Okay, you know, I think you're getting a little paranoid.

Steve: If you did anything to hurt her--

Ava: Okay, are you forgetting that I am the one who tried to get you two back together? I worked my tail off. I want nothing but for you two to be happy.

Steve: No, all you want is to drag me into another one of your lousy schemes.

Ava: Oh, you--you mean finding my son before I die?

Steve: Yeah, yeah, like that. Like that. And I'm not going to do it.

Ava: What?

Steve: That kid would be better off never knowing who you are.

Ava: Don't you say that to me. Don't you ever say that to me, do you hear me? My God, I don't know why. I don't know why nothing can go as it's planned. It's first Kayla, and now it's you. Frustrated with your overactive bladder medicine not working?

Ciara: I'm not taking no for an answer, okay?

Joey: Yeah, okay.

Ciara: You're feeling kind of down, it'll cheer you up. Just think of it that way. See you, Joey.

Joey: Hey, Brian.

Brian: Hey.

Joey: Hey, uh, you still got that fake id?

Brian: Yeah.

Joey: Can you pick me up a bottle of whatever? Actually, make it two.

Brian: Somebody's going to do some serious drinking.

Joey: Yeah. Somebody is.

[Suspenseful music]

Rafe: Hope, the question is, do you think I should go with you? I mean, yeah, yeah, obviously, it's what Ciara wants, but I wouldn't want you to, you know, be uncomfortable. You know, what happened between us, it was...

Hope: Nothing happened. No harm, no foul. As far as you coming, I think it would be nice. And don't forget your boots. If the snow melts, it gets muddy.

Rafe: [Snorts] Well, hey. I'll bring some food, too. I'm a lousy fisherman.

Hope: But can you cook?

Rafe: Uh, yeah.

[Dramatic music]

Steve: You know where Kayla is, don't you?

Ava: Yes. Yes. Your wife, she slammed her way into my room spewing her usual poison. I am dirt, she's not. Stay away from you, stay away from Joey, and you know what? I'm sick of it. I'm sick of it.

Steve: What did you do?

Ava: You want to know?

Steve: Yes.

Ava: I brained her. [Laughs] I knocked her out cold. And you know what? It felt so good.

Steve: Where is she?

Ava: So good.

Steve: You better tell me she's all right.

Ava: You want to know if she's alive? Is that what you want to know?

Steve: Yes!

Ava: She is alive.

Steve: [Sighs]

Ava: You want to know where she is?

Steve: Uh-huh.

Ava: You find my son, you bring him back to me, and then I will tell you where Kayla is.

Abigail: Look, Chad, this place is... I mean, this place is huge.

Chad: Yes, I know, that's great. Pretty soon it's going to be full of kids playing and finding secret places to hide and have an amazing time.

Abigail: You're really serious about this.

Chad: Yes, I want it. I want it more and more every minute. But I want you to be happy, okay? You can re-do it any way you want. You can make it all yours. You can make it so no one will ever remember all the hell that's happened inside these walls or--or--or who even owned it. Okay, we'll make our own memories. Of us, and all of our kids. Will you please at least think about it?

Abigail: Okay, I will think about it.

Chad: That's all I ask.
