Provided By Suzanne
Kayla: So you think that someone's helping Joey to get us back together.
Steve: I don't know. I just don't see how Joe could be pulling this off on his own. I mean, that hotel room, that expensive champagne?
Kayla: Yeah, it doesn't sound like Joey or his budget. And the rose petals on the bed-- I mean...it's a woman's touch, not his.
Steve: Well, whoever it is, I think that person may be calling the shots.
Ava: Your parents are together tonight? Good work, Joe.
Joey: It's mostly you. I mean, it was your idea to... lock them in the supply closet.
Ava: Yeah, but you knew that kind of closeness would still have a powerful effect on them. And it did.
Joey: Mm. I still don't understand, though. I mean, if my parents get back together, what's in it for you?
Theresa: God, it's about time you got here. I've been freezing my ass off.
Anne: Congratulations, Theresa. You passed the test.
Henderson: You'll be missed around here, sir, and so will young Tate.
Brady: We'll miss you too. Are grandfather and Maggie around? I'd better get these good-byes out of the way.
Henderson: I believe they're in the living room, sir.
Philip: This is all fine, if you're happy playing it safe, keeping titan right where it is. But the market's healthy again; you've never minded taking risks. Why not gamble on a big return?
Brady: When I gamble, I go to Vegas. I don't like to do it with victor's money.
Philip: [Exhales] Brady. It's good to see you.
Brady: So he's my replacement.
Victor: That's right.
Brady: Philip, I don't know what to say, other than... welcome back to the fun house.
Philip: I'm actually really glad to be back.
Victor: It's good to have a son of mine under my roof tonight.
Brady: Henderson told me that Maggie was in here. The movers are ready to go. I just wanted to say good-bye to her.
Victor: She was tired. She went up to bed.
Brady: Would you have her call me in the morning, please? Thanks. Philip, good luck. You will need it.
Philip: So I'm guessing Theresa Donovan's the problem here.
Victor: She's A... vicious, money-grubbing slut who's used that kid to ensconce herself in this house so she could work her wiles on Brady.
Philip: He's that clueless?
Victor: I told him she had to go; he chose to move out, stop working for me. You do the math.
Theresa: What test?
Anne: Well, when I asked you to meet me, I wanted to see if you'd blow me off. That's why I asked you to meet me in the cold and I showed up late. But you were here. Grumpy, but here, so you passed.
Theresa: I don't like being tested.
Anne: Well, too bad.
Theresa: But, look, I guess I understand why you did it, okay? I haven't exactly been a good friend.
Anne: Huh, you think?
Theresa: So anyway, what did you want to talk to me about?
Anne: [Exhales] Well, I have done some soul searching...
Theresa: Soul searching, you?
Anne: And even though all you care about is becoming Mrs. Brady black, I'm-- I miss-- I miss having you as my friend. So I've...changed my mind about some stuff. I think it blows that victor Kiriakis kicked you out of the house, and if you need a place to stay, you can stay with me for a while and you can even bring... the kid.
Theresa: Anne, that's-- that's really sweet, really-- really nice of you. Um, but listen, after I talked to you, I ran into Brady, and, Anne, he rented me a townhouse.
Anne: A townhouse?
Theresa: Yes, right. And the best part is that he's moving in with me and Tate, and he just hates what victor did, and he's totally taking my side.
Anne: So things are going your way again.
Theresa: Yeah, they really are.
Anne: Yeah, all right, well, don't drop your guard, 'cause I have found that when life seems too good to be true, it usually is.
Theresa: Why are you being such a downer?
Anne: Because you're my friend, Theresa. I don't want to see my friend be surprised when the ground starts dropping out from under her again.
Ava: I told you what I get out of it. Your parents were old friends of mine.
Joey: Until you did something that ended up hurting them.
Ava: Right. And I told myself if I ever got the chance, I would do whatever it took to make them happy again. And that's all I'm telling you. Hey. If that doesn't work for you, I'll completely understand if you don't want anything more to do with me.
Kayla: How worried do you think we should be?
Steve: I don't know. I just don't see Joe being the point man on this. I mean, he's 16. I think maybe somebody's working him--somebody who knows he wants us back together.
Kayla: Yeah, like I said before, they... really want to hurt us, they probably would've done it already, right?
Steve: Yeah, probably. So...
[Romantic music] What do we do here, sweetness? I mean, our son admitted that he's trying to get us back together. He thinks we belong together. So do we try to convince him it won't work? Or... do we stop fighting it?
What do you think?
Philip: Oh, good. I caught you. Can I buy you a cup of coffee?
Brady: Sure. Sure, why?
Philip: It seems pretty obvious that you and I should talk.
Theresa: No, this is the real reason you dragged me out here, isn't it, huh? To just tell me that I'm going down in flames? Some friend you are, Anne.
Anne: No, that is not what I'm saying. I'm saying be careful. I'm saying watch your back. That's it.
Theresa: But, Anne, things that I've--I've always wanted to happen to me are finally happening. I just--I thought you'd be happy for me.
Anne: I am. I'm just also a little bewildered, shall we say, by--by this recent turn of events. I mean, really, how the hell did something like this happen? You've never given a rat's ass about anybody but yourself.
Theresa: Well, I've changed.
Theresa: Well, a lot of ways.
Anne: Name one.
Theresa: Okay, fine. Like-- like I used to always sleep in, right, and I loved it. And--and now I wake up every morning because Tate's fussing in his crib, and...
Anne: [Sighs] And this has changed you?
Theresa: No, what's changed me is that when I go to get him, he just looks at me like I hung the moon, and then I just-- I don't care whether I ever sleep in ever again.
Anne: And what about Brady? How can you be sure this time?
Theresa: Well, I can't. I mean, not a 100%, but, I mean, hey, he took my side over victor's, and that's huge. Things are going really well for us, Anne-- better than ever. Look, all I know is that you can't just sit around waiting for life to change, you know? You have to be willing to change yourself.
Anne: [Clearing throat] Well, how--I mean, how, maybe, how maybe could I do that?
Theresa: You know what, I-I-- I just might have an idea. Come on.
Joey: I'm--I'm not backing out of the plan. We're a team.
Ava: Mm. I'm so happy you feel that way. 'Cause I really want to fix the mistake I made.
Joey: And--and that's all-- that's all it was? A mistake?
Ava: Absolutely. Look, if I had the chance to do it over again, I--
Joey: Hey. You're trying to make it up to them.
[Soft piano music]
Ava: Well, I'm not so sure your parents are gonna be as forgiving as you are, which is why I haven't let them know that I'm in town, and I contacted you instead. I knew you'd want them together as much as I do.
Steve: Uh. What?
Kayla: I don't-- I just don't know if this is really the smart move for me.
Steve: You ever get tired of being so smart all the time?
Kayla: I just--I just don't think this is probably the right day for me to be making any big decisions.
Steve: Why does it have to be a big decision? How about just following your heart?
Caroline: Phil, it's so good to see you, oh. Mm.
Philip: [Sighs] I tried to move things around, so I could be here in time for the funeral, but... I couldn't manage it.
Caroline: Well, thank you.
Philip: I could not tell you how sorry I am about Bo.
Caroline: Oh, thank you. Must be a great comfort to victor to have you here.
Philip: I hope so.
Brady: Shouldn't you be upstairs, maybe resting?
Caroline: Sitting there, staring at the walls? No, thank you. I'm going to get you fellas something to eat.
Brady: No, no, just--just coffee, please.
Caroline: Piece of pie?
Caroline: You both look pretty skinny to me.
Philip: [Sighs] Oh. It is good to be home. I've missed this place.
Brady: Mm. So what am I doing here, Philip?
Philip: I don't want to get off on the wrong foot with anybody, especially you.
Brady: Listen, I don't blame you for taking the job. I don't blame my grandfather either. I quit, and he wants to keep it in the family. It's fine.
Philip: What you heard me say tonight, I--
Brady: Let me address that too. You need to know that I've worked my butt off to legitimize titan as a corporation. All illegal connections have been severed.
Philip: I understand. That was more important to you than profits.
Brady: The profits were decent.
Philip: I-I've--I've seen the numbers, Brady. In my opinion, you weren't aggressive enough.
Brady: Okay, in what way?
Philip: Well, for one thing, the drug company's stock price has stayed flat for three years.
Brady: Okay, okay. Now I know what this is about. It's about...that drug, the drug that grandfather got for Caroline, right?
Philip: It's had proven results.
Brady: I would've found a way to get it on the market, Philip.
Philip: But you would've played by the rules.
Brady: Everybody plays by the rules. The FDA gets very testy if you don't.
Philip: The--the--there's got to be some way to fast track this drug.
Brady: Uh-huh. And what about the possible side effects... that no one's heard about yet?
Philip: There is a side effect, the ability to see the future. Who doesn't want that?
Brady: The ability to see the fut-- do you hear yourself right now? Those could be hallucinations, anything. You'll find grandfather in the middle of a lawsuit before you know it.
Philip: Business is like life, pal. You can't be afraid to take risks.
Brady: Let me get this straight. You're telling me that I was too timid because I was cautious about distributing a drug that grandfather got on the black market.
Philip: You took the safe way out.
Theresa: You know, I spent a lot of lunch hours looking in this window. I... was thinking about how if I just had money to buy expensive things, then I'd be happy.
Anne: Uh-huh. And now you've learned that happiness is about the simple things, you know, like a townhouse paid for by your baby daddy.
Theresa: Wrong. Look, Anne, what makes me happy is my son. Changing Brady's mind about me and being a successful fashion designer--I mean, Anne, I'm finally doing what I always wanted to do, but... I was never brave enough to try. And it's just-- money doesn't really matter.
Anne: Aw. As inspirational as all that is, were we not about to talk about your ideas for changing my life?
Theresa: Yes. Okay, well, you hate your job, right? So why don't you just quit and come work at basic black with me?
Anne: As--as what?
Theresa: Well, there's money in the budget for me to hire an assistant.
Anne: Huh, what? I--what? That's your brilliant idea?
Anne: I quit--I quit my job as head of H.R. For Salem university hospital to come work for you and those bitches-- Kate and Nicole? Forget about it.
Steve: [Sighs] What's up, baby?
Kayla: I-- I just feel so lost. Losing Bo and... being here with you like this-- I don't-- it's just all so much.
Steve: I know.
[Soft piano music]
Why don't you come over here? You're so far away.
Steve: Hey. Do you have any idea how much I love you?
You know, after you divorced me, all I could think about, day or night, was how I was gonna get you back.
Kayla: Is that true?
Steve: Yeah. And when I stepped off that elevator and saw you for the first time, even though you were giving me hell, you looked so beautiful. [Sighs] And I knew I was never gonna let you go, Kayla.
Kayla: You were so sure that I was going to take you back?
Steve: No. I was never sure about you. 'Cause you're so much your own person.
Kayla: I am now.
Steve: You always were. I never felt like I... really deserved you.
Anne: I mean, I make good money at that hospital. I am in charge of a department.
Theresa: Come on, Anne. Look, I'm offering you a chance at a life in a glamorous world that changes every day, and--and look, you'll be able to travel.
Theresa: And go to swanky parties.
Anne: With skinny models.
Theresa: Please, they're no fun--they're hungry all the time.
Theresa: And besides, look, there are handsome men that you're going to meet. You know, they like a woman with a little meat on their bones who knows how to have a good time.
Anne: Hey. [Sighs]
Theresa: I'm just saying it's a lot better than filing personnel reports.
Anne: I don't file. But I--I mean, I have to admit it sounds a little tempting... if--if the money's decent.
Anne: And--and if--
Theresa: And--and what?
Anne: [Sighs] Thank you.
Victor: What's that?
Maggie: Herbal tea.
Victor: I never touch the stuff.
Maggie: I'll help you sleep.
Victor: Huh. All right, I'll try it.
Maggie: What were you thinking about when I came in just now?
Victor: Something that Caroline told me.
Maggie: What was it?
Victor: Ever since she's been on this drug protocol, she's been having... extrasensory perceptions that have been amazingly accurate. And tonight she told me she's seen my death.
Maggie: What? What exactly did she say?
Victor: The details don't matter.
Maggie: Well, they do to me.
Victor: No, what's important is that I'm going to take precautions.
Maggie: What kind of precautions?
Victor: Well, I'm drinking herbal tea, aren't I?
Maggie: [Sighs] Victor.
Victor: It's all a good thing.
Victor: Well, if she really does have this gift, maybe I can keep another tragedy from befalling this house.
Maggie: Victor, Caroline is not infallible. I mean, she admitted to you that she didn't foresee Bo's cancer.
Victor: Well, maybe she did and she didn't know how to interpret it. What's important is that these visions that she has need to be...studied, nurtured.
Philip: How did you know apple pie is my absolute favorite?
Caroline: Oh, it just came to me.
Philip: You're a wonder.
Caroline: And you are full of blarney like your brother is--was. Now eat it before it gets cold.
Brady: [Sighs] So you didn't have time to move things around and get to her son's funeral, but you got time to suck up to her.
Brady: What's your angle? What's your plan? Are you going to make Caroline the spokesperson for your new wonder drug?
Philip: I thought you'd had it with the business.
Brady: I thought you were done trying to come in between my grandfather and me.
Philip: You did that to yourself, Brady. You moved out of his house and quit working for him.
Brady: Philip, I did that because he was going to kick the mother of my son out of his house. I don't need to defend that decision.
Philip: [Sighs] Fine. What are you going to do with yourself?
Brady: I thought I would try being a hands-on father.
Philip: Right. I know you love your son, but won't that get a little boring?
Brady: I don't think so. It's been pretty interesting lately.
Philip: I think you bailed at just the wrong time. That drug Caroline's on-- it's gonna be a gold mine. Father said Caroline was losing more and more memory every day before she started on it.
Brady: And that, Phil-- that is the reason--the only reason why he wanted to develop that drug as quickly as he did. He's not looking to make a killing.
Philip: But now we know it works.
Brady: And what about the visions? What about these hallucinations? What about those?
Philip: I'll figure out a way to spin that.
Brady: You don't-- you don't spin something like that, Philip. The FDA is not an agency that you--you schmooze in order to get a drug fast tracked. That drug is not going to be approved any time soon, if at all.
Philip: That's not your problem anymore.
Brady: Have you told grandfather about your grand plan? 'Cause he told me that he wants this drug kept under wraps.
Philip: Brady, you made your decision. Go. Move in with Theresa. Leave my father to me.
Ava: Mm, I hope things are going well with your parents right now.
Joey: They are. Are you gonna tell them you were helping me?
Ava: No, maybe after things settle a little and you guys are a family again, which is why I wanted to talk to you tonight.
Joey: What do you mean?
Ava: Well, it's time to kick the plan into higher gear.
Joey: Cool. What do we do?
Ava: Joey... it's time I took the plan from here... alone.
Kayla: You didn't think you deserved me? You never said that.
Steve: I'm pretty sure I did. I never had any real confidence until you started believing in me. So you're the best thing that ever happened to me.
Kayla: Then why'd you keep throwing it away?
Steve: [Sighs] Because I'm an idiot.
Kayla: Yep, you are.
Steve: I can see you still believe in me.
Kayla: You think you know me better than I know myself?
Steve: Maybe I do.
Kayla: Maybe you do.
Steve: [Sighs] You know, after you told me Bo was sick, I tracked him down in the park, asked him what I could do for him. And all he said... [Sighs] Was, "get your family back. And hold onto them. And never let them go." I want us to be a family again. I want us to live together.
Maggie: Just how do you plan to nurture Caroline's visions?
Victor: Oh, that's nothing you need to worry yourself about. You know, I think I'll... pop over to the pub, and look in on her. Knowing her, she's probably still working.
Maggie: Are you up to it?
Victor: I'm not going to sleep. Thank you for the tea, though.
Maggie: You're welcome. [Sighs]
Anne: Oh, this place is fantastic.
Theresa: I know, right? Oh, Brady, hi.
Theresa: Hi. Hey, where's Tate?
Brady: Uh, he's with Emma in the park.
Anne: All right, well, I guess I should be going. So you'll call me tomorrow about the job?
Theresa: Yeah. I just need to talk to Kate and Nicole about it first.
Anne: Great. Okay. Good night.
Brady: Good night.
[Door opening and closing]
Brady: You offered her a job at basic black, didn't you?
Theresa: Yeah. She just--she's really been hating her life lately, and I just...feel like I've been so lucky, and-- something's wrong. Oh, god. Brady, are you having second thoughts about moving in here with me?
Joey: I told you I wouldn't turn on you.
Joey: Is that why you're ditching me, because I told my parents that--that I was the one who was setting them up? You texted me.
Ava: Yes, and you--
Joey: You told me to say that.
Ava: Right, it was the exact right thing to do. It's just that now I have to be the one to let them know I was in on it. And I have to figure out how to do that.
Ava: So promise me that you won't say anything till they know about me. Look, because if you do, it's going to ruin all the progress that we've already made. You get that, right?
Joey: I don't know. And I don't know if I can make you any promises either.
Steve: I'm sorry, baby. Did I move too fast? You know, uh... I never asked you how things were for you after I left. Sorry, I should have.
Kayla: I was miserable. I waited tables at the pub, and I tried to figure out how I was gonna live my life without you.
Steve: I'm so sorry.
Kayla: It's okay. I got better after a while. I kind of...started enjoying my independence.
So you didn't, uh-- you didn't get lonely?
Kayla: You think I was pining for you the whole time? I dated.
Kayla: Bob. He wasn't from around here. You wouldn't know who he is.
Steve: Where was he from?
Kayla: I don't know.
Steve: You dated a guy, and you didn't know where he lived?
Kayla: He was very quiet.
Steve: So he never took you back to his place.
Steve: Why not?
Kayla: It was my choice. Like I said, he was very quiet. So much for online dating, anyway.
Steve: So "silent bob" ruined you for other men?
Kayla: Oh, please. Don't act like you're enjoying this.
Steve: I'm not, believe me. But... I think I got back here just in time.
Brady: No. I am not changing my mind about living with you.
Theresa: Oh. Okay, I just--I thought maybe-- you just--you look so upset about something, and--
Brady: I am. I am upset about something, but it's got nothing to do with you-- nothing at all. I promise. I'm actually very much looking forward to living here with you and our son.
Theresa: Good. So we're--we're good.
Theresa: Okay. So the thing that's upsetting you, can you tell me what it is?
Brady: It's my grandfather.
Theresa: Did he say something tonight?
Brady: No, no, no, no. It's not that, it's... just the fact that he's making some really bad decisions lately.
Maggie: Thank you for coming so quickly. I know it means the world to your father.
Philip: What's wrong?
Maggie: Isn't it obvious? We buried Bo today.
Philip: It's something with me; I could see when I walked in.
Maggie: Losing Bo and having everything fall apart with Brady... it's hit victor really hard. [Sighs] So please don't disappoint him.
Philip: I won't.
Maggie: Brady feels that victor forced him into doing what he did. And victor feels it was a betrayal.
Philip: Well, I'm not surprised. But father and I are in complete agreement about what's important.
Maggie: I am so glad you're here. I just wish that victor hadn't forced Brady to resign.
Philip: Brady wasn't forced. He made a choice. Personally, I think it was a really bad one.
Steve: You know what I want to do? I want to stop dwelling on the past, start concentrating on the future.
Kayla: It's hard. I still don't even know about your past. What do you want to know?
Kayla: I just find it hard to believe that there wasn't at least one woman in your life since you left Africa.
Steve: There was a woman.
Kayla: I thought so.
[Dramatic piano music]
Steve: Her name's Kayla Johnson.
Kayla: Is that the truth?
Steve: What do I have to do to make you believe there's no one else for me?
Kayla: I want to believe it. You know when I told you before that I--I wasn't pining for you? It was a lie. You are the only man for me... and you always have been. You happy now?
Steve: [Chuckles] Am I happy? Am I happy?
Kayla: Wait, wait, wait.
Steve: Why? What are you doing?
Kayla: Well, it might be a complete and total leap of faith, but... if you're still interested... welcome home.
Philip: I--I'm sorry. I--I just told Brady that I wouldn't get between him and father, and here I am passing judgment.
Maggie: You're entitled to your opinion.
Philip: Yeah, I--I shouldn't be trying to influence you.
Maggie: Oh, you couldn't, not about Brady.
Philip: The truth is I--I'm fine with what Brady did. Father needs somebody who puts the family before everything else.
Philip: I'm going to make titan more powerful and more profitable than it's ever been.
Maggie: [Sighs] Okay.
Theresa: Well, it can't be easy being victor's son.
Brady: True. True, but all of the sudden, it just seems like he's a chip off the old block.
Theresa: In what way?
Brady: [Sighs] Well, I've been killing myself to lose titan's reputation as shady, and all Philip cares about is profits.
Theresa: Are you--are you sorry that you gave up your job?
Brady: Well, let's see. To be a workaholic and not be able to live here with you and watch our son grow up together? Not at all.
Theresa: Okay, good.
Ava: I don't understand what the big problem is.
Joey: Now that my parents know that I was the one pushing them together, my dad's not gonna let that go.
Ava: Come on, you're a smart guy. You can handle these questions. It's not like we broke the law or anything. Right?
Joey: Yeah, I guess.
Ava: Mm. Thanks, buddy. All right. You better get going, because I don't want anyone to see us together.
Steve: [Scoffs] Am I interested? Are you kidding me? Yes, I want to move in with you.
Steve: I don't want to push my luck, but... maybe we can take this a step further.
Steve: Kayla... Caroline Brady Johnson... will you marry me... again?
