Gabi: Hey. Hey there.

Rafe: Hey.

Gabi: You look amazing. What is this tie? Do you have court today?

Rafe: No, it's... Paige Larson, it's her funeral.

Gabi: Oh, yeah, that's--that's the girl that got murdered. That--that's your case, isn't it?

Rafe: Mm-hmm.

Gabi: Well, that's a little above and beyond the call of duty, don't you think?

Rafe: Not really, no. It's important for me to be there.

Gabi: Why? Did you know her?

Theresa: [Sighs] Damn it.

Brady: Hey. What's wrong?

Theresa: [Crying] Brady.

[Acoustic guitar playing]

Eve: Paige.

Paige: What are you wearing? You look like you're going to a funeral.

Eve: Oh... I am.

Paige: We're celebrating, not mourning, okay? I'm graduating from college, starting a whole new life. I know you can't help but worry about me, but... it's going to be great.

Andre: Well, I'm glad you got our message in time.

Chad: How did the cops find my hideout?

Andre: From you, Chad.

Justin: It shouldn't be this hard. Check every cottage on the lakefront, and don't come back until you you have Chad DiMera in handcuffs.

[Knocking on door]

Eduardo: Tell me. Are you any closer to making an arrest?

Justin: I can't discuss an ongoing case.

Eduardo: Yeah, yeah. I'm Paige's father.

Justin: I know who you are.

Eduardo: Eve told you about me. I'm sure she had nothing good to say.

Justin: Why would she?

Eduardo: [Chuckles] Yeah, I was a lousy father to Paige. I wish I could change that. But all anybody can do now is see that justice is served in her name. So why haven't you caught the son of a bitch who did this to her?

Theresa: I've got to get a hold of myself. Eve needs me to be strong. I cannot be a mess at the funeral.

Brady: You know, maybe you should take the morning off.

Theresa: No, no, no. It helps me to be busy.

Brady: Is this a wedding dress? Theresa, I don't know if this is the direction that basic black wants to venture into--

Theresa: Oh, no, no, no. That's not for basic black. Um, Abigail asked me to put together some ideas for her gown.

Brady: Abigail Deveraux?

Theresa: Yeah. I know, I was shocked too. But I guess she saw some of my sketches, and-- and she decided to extend the old olive branch.

Brady: And you took it.

Theresa: Yeah, why not?

Brady: I think it's great. And these-- these are terrific.

Theresa: Thanks. Thank you.

Brady: Here, here, here.

Theresa: [Sighs]

Brady: Hair back.

[Soft music]

Theresa: Wow. It's like magic. Brady, um... do you think maybe you could go to the funeral with me?

Eve: Eddie.

Eduardo: Evie.

Eve: Those are... Paige's favorite.

Eduardo: I know.

Paige: Ooh, they're so beautiful!

Eduardo: Hey, sweetie.

Paige: Thank you so much! I love them, daddy.

Eduardo: Thank you, darling. Your mom and I couldn't be more proud of you. I mean, graduating summa cum laude, come on.

Eve: As if there was ever a doubt.

Paige: I'll go put these in some water.

Eduardo: H-hold on. You know, you might want to give them a little sniff first, like a little--

Paige: Okay.

Eduardo: Take a little sniff right there.

Paige: [Laughs] These are--

Eduardo: Keys to your new car. It's parked out back.

Paige: [Squeals]

Eduardo: Happy, happy, happy graduation from your mom and me.

Paige: Oh, I have the best parents ever!

Theresa: I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked you that. You know, I'll be fine. You already made me feel so much better.

Brady: Theresa. Of course I'll go with you to the funeral.

[Soft music]

Jennifer: Abigail wanted me to tell you she's sorry she can't come to the funeral. She woke up not feeling well.

JJ: Okay.

Jennifer: JJ, there's enough to be sad about without you blaming yourself for what happened. It is not your fault.

JJ: No, it is my fault. I never should've told her about Clyde. I should've just stayed out of her life.

Jennifer: Clyde is not the one who killed Paige. The police think it's Chad.

JJ: But they don't know that Clyde was a drug lord that I was supposed to bring down or that I gave Paige information that could've gotten her killed. I just can't believe I didn't check this room for bugs before I started blab--

Jennifer: Honey, I really believe that it was eve who did that, I do.

JJ: No, the point is that we don't know. Mom, I didn't protect Paige. But it's not too late to protect you. After the funeral, I want you to leave town. Go visit grandma. He will never be able to get you there.

Jennifer: I'm not leaving you here alone. No, I'm not going anywhere--

JJ: Mom--mom, listen to me. Mom, please.

[Doorbell rings]

Jennifer: Honey, excuse me. Hi. Come on in.

JJ: Thanks for going with us. My mom needs a friend today. Someone she can really depend on.

Eduardo: Come on, man, please, let me see it, I-- I need to know what's going on.

Justin: The police are doing everything they can to bring in Chad DiMera.

Eduardo: There's got to be something I can do to move this along.

Justin: You can stay out of it.

Eduardo: No. That's not going to happen.

Justin: Back off. And don't make things harder for eve than they already are. She's going through hell right now. Her life will never be the same.

[Solemn music]

Eve: These were my daddy's mother's earrings, and he wanted you to wear them, sweetheart.

Paige: That means a lot.

Eve: Well, I know they're a little old-fashioned, but--

Paige: They're perfect.

Eve: Oh, my gosh, look at you. You are the most serene bride I have ever seen. You're not my little girl.

Paige: Mom... I'll always be your little girl.

Eve: Oh, honey, I love you.

Paige: I love you too, mom.

Eve: [Sighs] Oh.

[Soft music]

Paige: Oh, lambie. I can't believe you kept him.

Eve: What are you talking about? Of course I did. I was hoping that your baby girl would grow up to love lambie as much as you did, sweetheart.

Eduardo: Yeah.

Eve: If your baby girl grows up as smart and as kind and as beautiful as you, you are going to be the happiest mommy in the whole world, honey.

Paige: Mom...

Eve: No, it's true.

Eduardo: Just remember we're always here for you, whatever you need.

Eve: Yes, that's right. And I will take that baby anytime that you feel like you need a break, okay?

[Paige groans]

Eve: What?

Eduardo: What's wrong?

Paige: Nothing.

Eve: What, hon?

Paige: The baby's kicking.

Eve: Oh.

Paige: Do you want to--

Eve: [Squeals]

Eduardo: Aw.

[Knocking at the door]

Eve: Eddie. What are you--

Eduardo: I'm here to go with you to bury our daughter.

Chad: What the hell? Justin found a fishing lure?

Andre: Yes, and recognized it from the Kiriakis cabin.

Chad: Damn it, you know if the DA were anyone else... could I have any worse luck?

Andre: Hasn't father taught you that you make your own luck?

Chad: Your life hasn't exactly been a roaring success, from what I hear.

Andre: If you don't want to accept my help, you can always turn yourself in.

Chad: Why do I need your help? You don't even know me.

Andre: Because we're family, and that's what family does.

Chad: You know, I don't even where the hell you came from.

Andre: Ah, well, that's a discussion for another time. In the meantime, shall we plan your next move, Chad?

Chad: I'm thinking Paige's funeral is today. Rafe Hernandez is going to have half the Salem pd staking out the place. While they're spread thin, I think I could make my move. God, I hate myself for saying that.

Andre: Why? The girl's death is a tragedy, yes, but it'd be even a greater tragedy if you were sent to prison.

Chad: Who asked you?

Andre: Do you disagree?

Chad: Just shut up. Just don't say another word.

Andre: Oh, Chad, calm down. We are all on the same side here.

Chad: I'm not so sure we are.

Eve: I was supposed to be shopping... with her for her wedding dress, buying her baby her first pair of shoes, but instead I'm picking out her casket... and her dress for her funeral.

[Dramatic music]

Eve: You know what this says? "With deepest sympathy for your loss." My loss. You lose a tennis match. My precious--my precious baby-- [Sighs] I'm dead inside, Eddie. If it had only been me instead of her--

Eduardo: You shouldn't say that, eve.

Eve: Yeah, you know what? You're right. It should have been you. If you hadn't abandoned us, we would never have come back to this town. You weren't there for Paige and me when she was alive, and you haven't earned the right to be here now.

Rafe: Is there anything I can do to help out on the job front?

Gabi: Well, I could use maybe, like, a character reference?

Rafe: Yeah, of course.

Gabi: Okay, I mean, it's-- it's nice to have a big brother that is a cop, but hr doesn't really care when they ask, "oh, well, you know, what's this gap that you have in your resume?" And then I say, "well, I was in prison for murder."

Rafe: Yeah, well, you probably don't want to lead with that.

Gabi: Yeah, I usually don't.

Rafe: You're smart. You're beautiful. You're great with people. You got this.

Gabi: Thank you for breakfast.

Rafe: Yeah.

Gabi: I love you.

Rafe: I love you.

Gabi: See you.

Rafe: See you, kid.

Gabi: Bye.

Eduardo: Hey. Got to say... it's really great to see that you and-- you and your sister are close.

Rafe: Wait, are you stalking us?

Eduardo: It's a small town, man. Are you going to Paige's funeral? Well, I-- I assume you haven't told Gabi that her old dad is back in town. Or that Paige was her half sister.

Uh... no. No, you see, I haven't, because... Gabi just got out of prison, and she's trying to get her life back together. So no, I do not want to turn things upside down. I'm not going to say anything, and neither are you.

Andre: So why wouldn't I be on your side?

Chad: Maybe you think you should be the rightful heir--

Andre: Well, you won't be an heir to anything if you end up in prison. So what happened to your alibi?

Chad: Well, I brought him the cash. When he saw me, all of a sudden, didn't remember anything. Obviously we can't go to the cops, so, father, here's your cash back.

Stefano: Keep it. You'll need it.

Chad: No.

Andre: So what are you going to do?

Chad: I'm working it out.

Andre: Chad, we can keep you safe until the real killer is caught. Why can't you just admit that you need our help?

Jennifer: Thank you so much for coming.

Brady: Of course.

Jennifer: Thank you.

Daniel: Theresa, I'm-- I'm sorry for your loss.

Theresa: Excuse me, there's Paige's roommate. I should say something. Excuse me. Daphne, hi. How are you holding up?

Daphne: It still doesn't feel real. Have you met father Valerio? He's from the Newman campus.

Theresa: Hi.

Daphne: This is Theresa Donovan, Paige's aunt.

Valerio: I was privileged to know Paige. She will be greatly missed.

Theresa: Yeah. She will.

Eduardo: Rafe. Rafe.

Rafe: Yeah?

Eduardo: I overheard you telling your men to be on the lookout for Chad DiMera.

Rafe: So?

Eduardo: So that's not the extent of your search plan, is it? I mean, you don't honestly think he'd be dumb enough to show up here, do you?

[Dramatic music]

Woman: My mom and I have the same hands.

Father Valerio: Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you for all the benefits you have won for us, for the pains and insults you have borne for us. Most merciful redeemer, friend and brother, comfort us in our sorrow at the death of Paige. Let faith be our consolation and eternal life our hope. We pray to the lord.

All: Lord, have mercy.

Father Valerio: For our sister, Paige, let us pray to our lord Jesus Christ, who said, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me shall live, even in death."

Justin: If you hadn't shown so much mercy to Chad DiMera, he'd be behind bars right now.

Father Valerio: Shall never die.

All: Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Theresa: [Crying] Oh, eve.

Eve: Pull it together, Theresa.

Theresa: I'm trying.

Brady: It was a beautiful service.

[Soft music]

Rafe: Hey.

Eve: Thank you for coming.

Rafe: Yeah. I'm so sorry. I promise you that I'm going to find whoever did this.

JJ: I just wish I could say something to eve, but--

Daniel: No, you don't want to make it worse.

JJ: Can't get any worse.

Jennifer: Honey, look at me. It's going to be okay.

JJ: It's never going to be okay, mom.

Jennifer: Yeah, it is. Honey, please--

Daniel: Hey. Hey. Just--just give him time. Okay?

Jennifer: Time can't fix this, and I don't know how to help him.

Daniel: Maybe you can convince him to talk to someone.

Jennifer: I did, I did that. He went to one session and decided that he was cured.

Daniel: I think you try again.

Jennifer: I can't tell him what to do. He's going to do the opposite, Daniel.

Daniel: That's normal.

Jennifer: What?

Daniel: That's normal for someone--

Jennifer: Nothing about this situation is normal. He thinks he has to be the head of our house right now, and he can't do that. He's too young. He's lost so much. He shouldn't have to go through something like this.

Daniel: No one should. Okay?

Jennifer: You're right about that.

Daniel: Hey, come on.

Theresa: [Sniffling] I'm sorry. I'm trying, but...

Brady: Maybe--maybe we should leave.

Theresa: Leave? Listen, if you're in a rush--

Brady: No, no. I just don't think you're doing your sister any good right now.

Theresa: Brady, she was my niece. Look, why are you being so cold to me?

Brady: Theresa, listen to me. I'm very sorry for what you and your family are going through. But JJ and Jennifer, they're just here to pay respects to Paige. I don't know why you would treat them like that. Especially after Abigail reached out to you, I--

Theresa: You know what, after what JJ and Jennifer put Paige through, I don't owe them anything. I can't believe they even had the nerve to show up here. I'm just trying to look out for my sister. Don't you understand that?

Brady: No. I don't understand.

[Dramatic music]

Eve: Don't.

[Birds chirping]

Paige: Please, mom. Don't be angry for the rest of your life.

[Gentle music]

[Melancholy music]

Rafe: What are you doing here, huh? You're just making this harder on eve, you know.

Eduardo: Paige was my daughter too. I brought her into this world.

Rafe: Right. But now you've buried her, so why don't you go back to wherever it was you came from?

Eduardo: I'm not going anywhere until the bastard who did this is caught. So if you're so eager to get rid of me, maybe you should let me help.

Rafe: Help?

Eduardo: Yeah.

Rafe: What the hell are you going to do that will possibly help?

Eduardo: I've been working security worldwide for two decades, so, actually, you followed in my footsteps. And the fact is, I have a lot more experience than you in finding missing persons, especially people who are trying to disappear.

Rafe: Yeah, except for when you want them to leave, like you now. For the record, I was in the FBI, but you didn't even know that, did you?

Eduardo: No, how would I-- how would I know that?

Rafe: Yeah, right.

Eduardo: No, I don't know anything about you. I want to know about you. I want to know about Gabi.

Rafe: You didn't want to know about me or Gabi. Now you come back here, and you want to pretend like you're her father now that she doesn't need you? It's about you. It's about you, just like it always was.

Daphne: JJ.

JJ: I know you probably wish I wasn't here.

Daphne: No, no. I'm really glad that you're here, 'cause there's something I want to tell you. I thought Paige was crazy for loving you after everything that you put her through, but... she did. And although she didn't want to admit it, I think she died loving you. And I think she would want me to let you know that.

JJ: I really thought I loved her, but I was a selfish bastard not to let her know.

[Soft music]

Theresa: Brady, I know you're upset with me, but I can't just plaster on some fake smile and be nice to these people who were total asses to my family when Paige was alive. Okay, look, it just-- it would make me as big of a hypocrite as they are.

Brady: They're not here for eve. They're here to pay their respects to Paige.

Theresa: What JJ did to Paige--

Brady: What about what eve did to Paige? This is the time to let go of all the anger, Theresa, and all the petty grievances, all the not-so-petty ones. Everyone is here to honor Paige. Is that what you really think you're doing right now?

Jennifer: I just don't even feel like I should be here right now. I saw eve last night, and I just made her upset.

Daniel: You're not responsible for any of this.

Jennifer: Yeah, but she's right. I have my son and my daughter, and I have a grandchild on the way, and she's lost everything.

Daniel: You know why you're here. For Paige. And--and your son.

Eduardo: To lose two daughters... you have no idea. I want a chance to get to know Gabi, and I think that she should be the one to decide whether I can be a part of her life.

Rafe: Well, it's my job to look out for my sister since you were never here to do it.

Eduardo: Your job now is to look out for Paige. And I strongly suggest you accept my offer to help, 'cause you need it.

Rafe: Yeah. I'm not going to make the mistake of counting on you, because you've never finished a damn thing in your life.

[Line ringing]

Eduardo: Yeah. My name is Eduardo Larson. I need a favor.

[Soft music]

Eve: How can I not be angry? You were supposed to grow up, have babies, fall in love, change the world.

Paige: I did fall in love.

Eve: Oh, honey. After the way JJ hurt you, how can you call that love?

Paige: What about the way you hurt me? Did you love me?

Eve: Oh. Oh, honey, yes.

Paige: I know you did.

Eve: Oh. Thank you for saying that to me.

Paige: And I forgive you. You're furious at Rafe, at my dad, at everyone, and I know the person you hate most is yourself.

Eve: You're right.

Paige: I need you to forgive yourself, mom. Please, it's the only way you'll ever be able to move on.

Eve: Aw, honey. [Sobbing] No! To feel this special...

JJ: I should probably go before eve gets here.

Jennifer: Yeah. We're going to go with you.

Eve: What are you doing here?

Jennifer: We were just going to leave.

Eve: It wasn't enough that you show up at Paige's funeral, but... to torment me here--

Jennifer: No, that wasn't our intention--

Eve: Oh, it's never your intention, is it, Jennifer, to cause trouble? But when you do, it's always somebody else's fault.

JJ: My mom didn't do anything wrong. If you're going to be angry at someone, be angry at me.

Eve: Oh, I'm plenty angry at you, JJ.

Justin: If you were on your way out...

Daniel: We're--we're going.

Eve: Daniel. You were always just such a good friend to Paige, but here you are, holding Jennifer's hand to escort her home. But, of course, comforting your needy ex takes precedence over celebrating my daughter's life. Damn you.

Jennifer: Please don't be angry at Daniel--

Eve: I'm angry... at all of you! Okay? Mostly, I'm angry at myself. I know that I wasn't the mother that Paige needed me to be. But none of you--

Justin: Eve, eve, eve.

Eve: No, no, no! None of you did right by her. [Sobbing] Not one single one of you. So get the hell out of my sight! Get out of here! Just get out of here!

Theresa: Eve, why don't we just go somewhere to talk--

Eve: I don't want to talk, Theresa! I want to yell!

Theresa: Eve, eve--

Eve: I want to scream! I want my daughter!

Theresa: Try to let it go. Try to let it go.

Eve: [Sobbing] I want--I want her.

Theresa: Shh, shh.

Chad: Wait, so how are we going to prove that Clyde Weston killed Serena and Paige?

Andre: You know what? First things first. Are we absolutely sure it was Clyde?

Chad: Well, who else would want to frame me and have the intelligence to do it? I mean, the irony in it is, it was all for nothing.

Andre: Why do you say that?

Chad: Because Abby told me that she and Ben are leaving town to start a brand-new life together.

Andre: Because of you?

Chad: Well, it doesn't matter, all right? She loves Ben enough to forget about her life here.

Andre: Ben Weston? Now come now. Do you think that she would've run off with him if she wasn't carrying his child? She does believe in your innocence, doesn't she?

Chad: Yes, but the police don't, which is what counts.

Andre: So how do we... prove that Clyde is responsible?

Chad: I don't know.

Andre: Mm. I have a suggestion.

Jennifer: I'm so sorry we had to leave the reception early. I'm so sorry about what eve said.

Daniel: It's-- you understand what kind of pain she's in. It's not really about you.

Jennifer: I know.

JJ: It was about me.

Jennifer: JJ--

JJ: I screwed up, and Paige is the one who paid for it.

Daniel: What are you talking about?

JJ: Never mind.

Jennifer: JJ and I need some time.

Daniel: Okay. Well, if you ever want to talk, you need anything, please call.

Jennifer: I will, thank you. And thank you again for going with us today. Thank you. JJ... please be kind to yourself.

JJ: I can't do that unless you leave town, mom.

Jennifer: I need to call your sister, see how she's feeling.

JJ: Great. Hey, it's me. We need to meet.

Theresa: Eve. Hey. Do you think this is how Paige would want to be remembered?

Eve: I'M... trying to let go... of the anger, Theresa. I am, for Paige. It just hurts too much.

Theresa: I know. Hey, but I hope it helps to know how much Paige was loved. And that's what you want today to be about, don't you?

Eve: I do.

Theresa: I love you so much, big sis. More than you know. It's okay.

Brady: That was really nice, what you said to her.

Theresa: Oh.

Brady: You always manage to surprise me, you know that?

Eve: You leaving town, Eduardo?

Eduardo: Not yet. There's something I have to do first. Speak of the devil. Hi. Thanks a lot for coming.

Thanks for the exclusive. We're rolling.

Eduardo: Okay. Hello. A few days ago, my beautiful daughter, Paige Larson, was brutally murdered in her dorm room. The killer is still at large, poses a threat to you and your families, and he needs to be brought to justice. So I am here to offer a reward, $100,000, to anyone who can assist in the capture of this man, the man who killed my daughter. His name... is Chad DiMera.
