Kayla: Ah, Victor. Hi.
Victor: Why isn't Caroline here?
Kayla: Well, there was nothing else we could do for her in the hospital. She just needs to rest.
Victor: When have you ever known Caroline Brady to rest?
Kayla: Well, she's learning. But, um, she's at home if you want to call her.
Stefano: [Sighs deeply]
Aiden: You rang? Look, you summoned me here. I can guess why. What the hell are you up to?
Hope: Are you sure the ceremony won't interfere with any of the bicentennial?
Maggie: No, not this time. Are you sure you want your wedding in the middle of all this hoopla?
Hope: Oh, yeah, I mean, I think it would be a lot of fun with all the town history. And, you know, I also think it would make Aiden feel like he's a part of something. That he belongs.
Maggie: Well, he does belong. I hope he knows that.
Hope: Well, yeah. He's feeling it more every day. But, you know, it's been a huge transition. You know what it's like, trying to fit in with everyone's family. Not to mention having a cop as a bride.
Maggie: Mm-hmm. Especially these days, with a murderer out there. I still don't know how you have time to plan a wedding.
Hope: [Chuckles] Why do you think I'm so happy to have the bicentennial do most of the work for me?
Maggie: Oh, okay.
Hope: Oh, my gosh, Maggie. Last night, I was at the station till midnight, and the night before that.
Maggie: Just don't try to do it all alone, okay? I'm here.
Hope: No, I know that. Thank you. I appreciate it.
Hope: Rafe's the lead detective on this, anyway.
Maggie: Well, from what I hear, there's only one suspect.
Hope: Who you been listening to?
Maggie: Well, don't you believe it's Chad DiMera?
Hope: Rafe has yet to be convinced he's got the right guy. So until then, I'm gonna keep an open mind.
Lani: Witness interviews from Salem u on the Larson homicide.
Rafe: All right. How's the first day, price?
Lani: I didn't think I'd spend my first day searching for a murder suspect.
Rafe: Oh, yeah? They had you out looking for DiMera, did they?
Lani: Me and half the department. I'm sorry we didn't have any luck.
Rafe: Last seen at the docks. He could be long gone by now.
Andre: No need to open with vulgarities, Mr. Jennings. After all, this is a business meeting.
Aiden: Uh, yeah, but I don't have any business with you.
Andre: No, I'm handling all of Mr. DiMera's affairs while he's recovering from his heart attack.
Aiden: We kept this between us for good reason.
Stefano: Listen, and behave.
Aiden: Someone bought up all my debt.
Andre: You had debts that could be bought? How sloppy of you.
Aiden: Why did you do it?
Andre: Because I listen to and obey Mr. DiMera. Be a lesson you'd do well-- well for you to learn. Also, we want to ease your burden.
Aiden: Hmm. So you found cooper.
Andre: And Wolaski. Stokes, Palacci. And one bobby shakes. That was all of them, wasn't it? Oh, no, no, there was one more. No, jimmy gorgeous. Uses a beauty salon as a front for his loan sharking. God, you just made so many fascinating friends since you have arrived in Salem.
Aiden: You, uh--
Andre: No. We bought your debts. Every last one. We own you, Mr. Jennings.
Aiden: I will pay you back.
Andre: Oh, of course you will. And you will do exactly as you're told for as long as we need you.
Maggie: You have a lot of faith in Rafe.
Hope: Yeah, because he's a great cop. He was in the field for the FBI for years before we ever had him at the Salem pd. But you know what, it's not just the experience. I mean, Rafe has the best instincts I've seen in a cop since--let's just say a very long time.
Maggie: Hmm. He's been off the force for a while.
Hope: Sounds like someone's making an awful lot of noise at the Kiriakis dinner table.
Maggie: He's excited about his job, and he's prosecuting this case.
Hope: Which is why we want to make sure we prosecute the right guy.
Maggie: Listen, I'm with you, hope. I just pray that we find him soon.
Hope: Okay, I've been pulling really long hours, but Rafe, I don't think he's been home for more than an hour since we found Serena mason's body.
Maggie: So do you think that he has a lot to prove?
Hope: People make him feel like that. Definitely. Roman, he wasn't exactly happy to put him back on the force. And Justin, you've clearly heard him. They've been butting heads.
Maggie: Hmm. You think they may have a point?
Hope: No, I don't-- granted, Roman had a reason to be reluctant to take him back. Let's be honest here, I mean, how many times has Roman--have all of us walked up to the line to protect Sami from something she'd done?
Maggie: Hmm. But it's--it's hard not to protect family.
Hope: Exactly. Family first, always.
Hope: I think deep down, though, Roman does understand what Rafe did for his sister. And Justin, well, he's just--
Hope: It's so funny, that's the same exact word that I used.
Maggie: [Chuckles] It doesn't mean he's wrong.
Hope: It doesn't mean they're right. Rafe is going to crack this case wide open, and when he does, mark my words, Maggie, everyone will see what I already know. What a damn good cop he is.
Rafe: Hang on, price. You ever see an evidence board?
Lani: In class at the academy, but not in the field.
Rafe: You wanna take a look?
Rafe: Lani. Take a real look.
Lani: You mean like, look at it?
Rafe: Yes, like, look at it. Like, evaluate it. Tell me what you think.
Lani: Detective, I'm a beat cop. It's my first day.
Rafe: I know, but you don't know the victims or the suspect or Salem, so it's a fresh perspective, and maybe you'll see something we haven't. What do you think?
Lani: I'm sure you've thought of anything I can see.
Rafe: Price, please, don't hold back. Anything could be a help.
Lani: Well, the two crime scenes seem almost staged, as if the killer was intentionally trying to make them look identical. Also, the murder weapons, the time the murders occurred-- it's my impression that our killer wanted everyone to think that he or she was repeating a pattern.
Rafe: You're good at reading a scene. You looking for a shield?
Lani: I can't take the detective exam yet, but that's the next step. As soon as I'm allowed.
Rafe: Next step?
Lani: Who knows what comes after that? Every option is open to me.
Rafe: Sky's the limit, huh?
Lani: Go big or go home.
Rafe: What? [Chuckles] Well, the confidence is good. I have a witness interview. Stay here, look at the board. See if anything else hits you.
Aiden: That's a cashier's check for $100,000.
Andre: Does that mean that I have go down to the docks to find one of those low-rent loan sharks? Oh, no. Your fiancée ponied up, did she?
Aiden: That is a down payment.
Andre: A heavily-armed heiress with the power to arrest and detain? You lucky man. Must've been a tearful confession, was it? Does detective Brady think this is all the money you owe?
Aiden: She does not know, and she never will.
Andre: Are you sure about that? I mean, her first name is "detective."
Aiden: Okay, look, whoever you are, if hope finds out about the debts, then I'll have nothing left to lose.
Andre: [Gasps] Well, you do have a young son. Big baseball fan.
Aiden: You want the money, I will get it. That is the first payment.
Andre: Hmm. Barely covers the interest. But it's a start.
Victor: She's getting worse? You didn't have to tell her that, did you? She knows.
Kayla: Yes, she-- I'm--I mean, I wanted to lie to her. I mean, the irony is that by the time she deteriorates, she's not gonna remember any of this anyway. She's gonna be lost and confused. I mean, I thought what does it matter what I say, anyway, really, because I could lie. I could try to chase that fear out of her eyes. I just couldn't do it. You try looking into my mother's eyes and lying. I dare you.
Victor: Even I have a hard time with that.
Kayla: Even then, I couldn't just blurt it out. I said that she's a fighter and that we're gonna fight this together.
Victor: You did good. That was the right thing to say.
Kayla: Was it? Bo always knew the right thing to say.
Victor: You're a good daughter, Kayla. Nobody could've handled the situation any better.
Kayla: I think we need to start planning for her end-stage care.
Victor: What? What happened to fighting?
Kayla: There's nothing else--
Victor: You can't give up now, Kayla. I feel certain that she's gonna be able to beat this.
Caroline: You still here? You banshee! You're not my Shawn. No! And it's not my time. No. My kids, they need me. They need me. My son, Bo, is in danger. I'm not leaving this world until I know that he's all right. And Steve is back and driving Kayla crazy. And Sami, she's trying to keep her kids away from Stefano. She's all by herself. And will's marriage is gone, and--and Theresa's a mess. She never listens to anybody but me, so-- I'm needed here! And it's not my time. You understand? You get out of here! It's not my time. I'm not done yet.
Julie: Caroline? Caroline?
Caroline: I'm not-- I'm not done yet. You get used to the lingering
Kayla: Do you follow research on degenerative neural disorders? Because I read the literature every single week, and I'll tell you, there is nothing new to help my mother. Why do you think that there is?
Kayla: One second, one second. Kayla Brady.
Julie: Kayla, it's Julie. Um, I'm with your mom, and she's in trouble, Kayla.
Kayla: What? Where are you? Are you at the pub or is she at her apartment?
Julie: No, the old mansion.
Caroline: Leave me alone!
Kayla: What's she doing there?
Julie: Well, I don't know. She, uh, she phoned me and then seemed surprised when I showed up.
Caroline: You can't make me go!
Kayla: Is that my mother?
Caroline: Get out of here, Shawn. I'm not going!
Kayla: Did--did she just say--say...
Julie: Yes, uh, you heard right. Can you please come here?
Kayla: Yeah, yeah. I'll be there right away. Um, please just keep her in one place and don't let her hurt herself.
Julie: Of course. Please hurry.
Victor: I'm coming with you.
Hope: So, everyone's okay with the costume idea?
Maggie: Oh, sure. Oh, people love costume parties. Although...I'm not so sure about this 19th century dress code. For everyone.
Hope: Hmm, it does feel a little stuffy.
Maggie: Yeah, I know. I really can't see myself in a corset.
Hope: You know what? Yeah, it should be more fun than that.
Hope: So what kind of costumes would be?
Maggie: Uh, let me think. Oh!
Maggie: Julie told me the history of the house.
Maggie: And the last time it was up and running was in the '60s. What about a '60s thing?
Hope: Ooh, that could be really cool.
Maggie: Oh, yes. Oh, my goodness, look! The clothes, they're fun. They're bright.
Hope: Yeah, they're very bright.
Maggie: Okay, bellbottoms--
Hope: But you know what? Maybe, maybe we could-- how about we keep it simple and maybe dress beautiful and elegant like the ladies from "mad men." Yeah?
Maggie: Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's a lot of fun. A lot of options, yes.
Hope: Better right? And I love options. There's so many gorgeous wedding dresses from that time.
Hope: Let's look them up.
Maggie: Okay. [Gasps] Oh, oh, you would be stunning.
Hope: Oh, gosh.
Maggie: In a Chanel?
Maggie: Or a Dior. Oh, honey!
Hope: Oh, Chanel, Dior?
Hope: My heart's a flutter. Are you kidding me? Seriously, oh, my God, this is gonna be so much fun.
Hope: And I can just see Aiden in a rat pack tuxedo.
Andre: It's not all that bad, Mr. Jennings. Well, for us at least. But you have run up an exorbitant amount of debt. Bobby shakes?
Andre: Animal. But a pussycat compared to a DiMera. Well, at least you know that you are in dangerous waters. That's good because it'll help us move forward much more easily.
Aiden: Okay, look, I want to pay you back, okay? Make good.
Andre: With what?
Aiden: How about a DiMera's life, hmm? Yeah, I mean, Chad is gonna need a lawyer. Right? The police are gonna find him soon. Justin Kiriakis is itching to put him away. Let me represent him. You're gonna pay a fortune to another lawyer--
Andre: My brother is off-limits to you.
Aiden: What are you talking-- then what am I supposed to do?
Andre: You know, we'll let you know when you can be of service to us. In the meantime, why don't you enjoy your family? Have a good time. [Sighs] Well, your latest pawn is a whipped pup. I think we can use that.
Andre: But first, we need to take care of our own family.
Chad: Shh, it's okay. Don't go. Here, it's gonna--it's gonna get cold tonight. Yeah? Here.
Chad: I'm looking for a friend of mine. About my height. He's got long hair and wears a--wears a green, army jacket.
He's your friend? Then what's his name?
Chad: He didn't give me his name.
Chad: Don't leave, don't-- look like this.
Aiden: Hey, you two. Ciara, is your mom here?
Ciara: Nope. Your move.
Chase: I know.
Aiden: What are you two doing here?
Chase: Sherry had to drop us off. She said we were in police custody.
Ciara: Welcome to my world. Your move.
Aiden: Uh, Ciara, did your mom text or--
Ciara: No, but she's supposed to be here soon.
Chase: Dad, why don't you play with us?
Aiden: Oh, well, that sounds fun, but I gotta catch up on some calls, buddy. So that's, uh--
Ciara: You're doomed. Face facts. Here. Let's just say you won the lottery.
Aiden: Oh, wait, wait, wait, hold up, hold up, hold up. Let's take a look, son. We can get you out of this.
Chase: Trust me, dad, we need the money.
Ciara: I don't mind.
Aiden: All right, I'll tell you what, if I'm gonna play, we need to start over. Yeah, okay?
Ciara: Fine. I'll just beat you both.
Aiden: Oh, did you hear that?
Ciara: Watching you, brah. No cheating.
Chase: Yeah, right, like that's me. Watching you watching me, sis.
Hope: So I guess we should check out some of those costume houses in Chicago.
Maggie: Uh, well, I think people can find, um, a lot in vintage clothing stores.
Hope: Hmm, that's true. So I guess we really don't have to go...
Maggie: Hello. May I help you?
Pedro: Yes, um, your gentleman let me in. I'm looking for Victor Kiriakis. Doctor Pedro Salinas.
Maggie: Nice to meet you. Um, is Victor expecting you?
Pedro: Well, he flew me in from Peru. He said it was an emergency.
Maggie: Dr. Salinas, ah. From Peru.
Pedro: Yes. Where can I find Mr. Kiriakis?
Julie: Oh, yeah, she's in there.
Kayla: Hey. What's up?
Kayla: Can I help you with something?
Caroline: Yes. I'm trying to get rid of the old man.
Kayla: This man?
Caroline: No, that man.
Kayla: Who's that?
Caroline: That's Shawn. That's my old man. He's--he's gone over to the other side. He's trying to drag me with him.
Victor: But you're not ready to go.
Caroline: Right. Thank you, sir.
Kayla: Mom. Mom, I need you to look at me. Can you say my name?
Caroline: I know you.
Caroline: You--did you live near the fish market? No? Hmm.
Kayla: I'm your daughter. Kayla.
Caroline: Oh. Oh. That's nice. It's nice to meet you.
Kayla: Nice to see you. So, you're sticking around, right?
Kayla: You're sticking around, right?
Caroline: Oh, yes, I am. I'm needed, you know? My family--my family-- my family needs me.
Kayla: We do.
Caroline: So, I'm--I'm not going yet.
Victor: I'm Victor.
Caroline: Of course you are.
Victor: And you're right, Caroline. You're not done yet.
Rafe: Hey, Marlena. Thank you for meeting me.
Marlena: You're welcome. It's good to get out.
Rafe: Yeah. You sure you're up for this?
Marlena: Mm-hmm. I mean, I haven't--haven't been sleeping too well since the attack, but it gets better every day. Yeah, I'm seeing somebody about that.
Rafe: Oh, good. That's good. So--
Marlena: I don't think that I ever thanked you for what you did for me.
Rafe: Oh, no, you did. You did.
Marlena: No. I truly believe you saved my life.
Rafe: Yeah, well, I'm just disappointed that I wasn't able to catch the guy red-handed.
Marlena: Yeah, I know.
Rafe: So, if you're up for this, I would really love to hear what kind of profile you've put together on the killer. Or shall I say, on Chad.
Marlena: Well, you know what? Let's, um, let's keep this--
Marlena: No. Professional.
Rafe: Marlena, are you worried about violating privilege? Because you are aware of the fact that if a client attacks you, you're no longer bound--
Marlena: No, no, I do understand that. I understand my rights, thanks.
Rafe: Okay. So that's not it. Tell me what's bothering you.
Marlena: It doesn't make any sense.
Marlena: Well, that Chad would come to me for help. And then that he would try to kill me.
Chad: Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, do you remember me?
Andre: So, father, is there-- is there anything I can get you?
Stefano: Well, there is one thing I could use. I need to rest.
Andre: I'll get Harold to make up your room.
Stefano: You know something? I am so glad that you are home.
Andre: So am I.
Andre: I don't want you to worry, father. Nobody knows that I'm in Salem. But eventually they'll have to know that I am alive.
Stefano: Ah-ha. But not yet.
Andre: No. Not if we can help it.
Andre: We bought your debts. Every last one. We own you, Mr. Jennings. You'll do exactly as you're told for as long as we need you.
Ciara: I own that property, Mr. Jennings.
Chase: You owe her for landing on her property. And you have to pay me rent too.
Aiden: What? And you both look so innocent.
Ciara: And rich.
Chase: Pleasure doing business with you.
Aiden: Oh, you think? You wiped me out. Ugh.
Hope: Do you know what this is about?
Maggie: Yeah, I do. Victor.
Victor: It's a little hectic right now, Maggie.
Maggie: Dr. Salinas has arrived from Peru.
Victor: Oh, thank God.
Maggie: Isn't he the one you told me about?
Victor: Yes, and he's just in time. Um, listen, tell the good doctor to sit tight, and tell Henderson to feed him and then we'll meet him later at the hospital.
Maggie: Is that where you are now?
Victor: No, we're--we're going there. We're taking Caroline.
Maggie: Oh, no. Um, I-I can join you right now. Hope is here too.
Victor: Oh, good. Bring her along. Caroline needs all the people that she loves near her now.
Rafe: So you don't think that Chad's guilty.
Marlena: It just doesn't make any sense.
Rafe: Okay, so he came to you for counseling? Maybe hypnosis to try and recover his memory?
Rafe: He's trying to come up with an alibi.
Marlena: I told him that it would take weeks, and any number of sessions and we could still not come up with the right answer. We could still come up empty-handed.
Rafe: It would've been easier for him to buy an alibi than that.
Marlena: I know. But he really wanted to know exactly what happened.
Rafe: Yeah, fair enough. But that doesn't mean that he's not necessarily the killer. In fact, that could explain how he could be the guy. Maybe he just snapped and doesn't remember.
Marlena: Not with that crime scene. The person that committed those murders did not do it in a dissociative state.
Rafe: How solid are you on that?
Marlena: As solid as I can be without hearing a confession.
Rafe: Okay... so then how do you explain Chad attacking you?
Marlena: I-I don't know. I just-- I saw him standing there in my office, but it still doesn't make any sense to me.
Rafe: Okay. Well, anyway, that releases you as his doctor, so help me find Chad. What did Chad remember under hypnosis?
Marlena: He went back to when Serena was killed. He remembers having a fight with somebody at the time of the killing.
Let go, man!
Chad: Hey, hey, look, I don't--I don't want to fight. I was here the other night. Do you remember me?
I have an appointment.
Chad: Okay, okay, here. Look, it won't take long. Here. Here, all right? You can take a cab. All right, so you won't be late.
What do you want to know?
Chad: Okay, the other night, do you remember me?
Yeah. Yeah, I remember you.
Hope: Oh. Hi. Caroline, hi.
Kayla: Um, I'm gonna go get her settled.
Maggie: We'll see you in a bit, okay?
Hope: She didn't know me, did she?
Julie: No, she didn't.
Maggie: How long has she been like that?
Julie: I have no idea. The other day, when the three of us were at the mansion, she was not herself. Remember?
Julie: But today when I got there, she was having an argument with Shawn as though he was alive and in the room.
Hope: Oh, God.
Maggie: Well, dr. Salinas is ready to come over whenever you call.
Hope: Who is this, Victor?
Victor: Salinas has been doing some research on Caroline's condition. Cutting edge stuff. He's developed an experimental protocol that he's had some success with.
Julie: A treatment? You mean a cure?
Victor: With any luck, it could be Caroline's ticket out of here.
Ciara: They found Paige in the shower. She'd pulled down part of her shower curtain.
Chase: Trying to get away?
Aiden: Hey, hey, hey, guys. Let's not talk about this, okay?
Chase: Everyone at school is.
Ciara: Yeah. There's a serial killer on the loose.
Aiden: Hey, listen, listen. You got your mom, Rafe, your uncle Roman. They're--they're gonna catch this guy, okay? So no one has anything to worry about, okay?
Ciara: But what if they don't?
Chad: What do you remember about me?
You were wasted.
Chad: Yeah, yeah, I was.
Yeah, I just wanted to know the time, and you freaked out on me.
Chad: Yes, yeah, you reached for my watch.
To see the time, that's all!
Chad: Right, right. Okay, I'm sorry. It was a rough night.
Morning. It was 2:35 in the morning.
Chad: How do you know that?
Because you freaked when I asked for the time.
Chad: You're right, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Okay, how about this? I want to make amends for freaking out, yeah? Maybe we can help each other out.
Chad: Okay, here. Tell you what, since knowing the time is so important, why don't you, uh--why don't you go buy a watch of your own? Okay, but first I need you to--I need you to take a ride with me. I need you to tell some guys what you remember about the other morning. Okay? I need you to tell them all that you remember me, about the fight, right, the time, okay? All of it.
Where do you want to go?
Chad: Just to the police station. Woman: My mom and I have the same hands.
Hope: Wait a minute. This doctor's on trial treatment?
Victor: We'll, uh, we'll let him explain it.
Hope: In other words, you don't know.
Maggie: Are we sure that this is safe?
Hope: You can't know that without clinical trials.
Victor: There's no time for that. Caroline is going downhill fast. She has to get her treatment started right away.
Julie: He's right.
Maggie: How can you say that?
Julie: Because I saw her.
Victor: This is Caroline's only hope right now. And the benefits far outweigh the risks.
Kayla: You want to try an experimental treatment on my mother? Over my dead body.
Rafe: If not Chad, then who else? Who would want to hurt these women? Who would want to frame Chad?
Chad: It's okay, it's not far. I'm gonna have a car--
No way in hell I'm going to the police station!
Chad: Okay, okay, listen, dude, you're not in trouble, all right? Not at all, I promise. Nothing's gonna happen to you.
You're damn right it won't because I'm not going. No cops!
Chad: No, but--
Aiden: You really think your mom is gonna let a serial killer get away? She's a good cop, isn't she?
Ciara: Yeah. She's like a ninja cop.
Ciara: Wait, but what if--
Aiden: But no, no, no. No "buts," all right?
Chase: Say it. She'll just think it really hard, anyway.
Ciara: What if before the cops catch him, the psycho kills someone else?
Aiden: No, no, no. Listen to me, sweetheart, listen, listen, listen. You are safe, okay? This family, our family... you're safe. And that's not just your mom's job. It's my job too now, okay? I'm gonna tell you something. Nothing is gonna happen to any of us, okay? Come here, come here, come here. It's gonna be okay. It's gonna be okay.
