Nicole: Theresa! You think you can cut a deal with that bitch and get away with it? Think again! Hey!
Kate: Good morning. Partner.
Eric: Here you go, Mom.
Marlena: Thank you, sweetie. Now, you didn't have to do that, though. Like when john brought me home this morning, he treated me like I was made of glass.
Eric: It's because we love you, Mom. So deal with it. Anything new on DiMera?
Marlena: No, they're still looking for him.
Eric: You know, I meant to ask you... did you even have an inkling that he might attack you?
Kayla: Oh, I'm sorry.
Adrienne: I'm sorry.
Kayla: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you.
Adrienne: No, it's okay, it's okay.
Kayla: Oh, no, no, I know this is a tough wait.
Adrienne: It is, it is. It's so weird. I'm--you know, trying to be optimistic and everything but-- I know this test is only gonna tell me whether I carry the gene that puts me at high risk for cancer but for some reason I just... feel so alone.
Abe: You don't sound too happy.
Justin: Maybe because I'm not in court making sure Chad DiMera rots in prison for the rest of his life.
Abe: So, nothing on the manhunt.
Justin: Nothing. And of course we wouldn't even be looking for him if we had gotten the evidence that I needed sooner.
Abe: The police didn't do their job?
Theresa: So, I like this one. Eve? Eve, the funeral home needs a decision on what Paige is going to, uh... look--hey, let's just get this over with now and then we don't have to do it, okay? Yeah, definitely. I like this one. I remember the day you bought it for Paige. Hmm?
Nicole: Get out of my sight, Kate.
Kate: So hostile.
Nicole: And you are a pathetic piece of trash. You may think you can sneak your way into my company and steal--
Kate: I really don't like listening to somebody who doesn't know what she's talking about.
Brady: Excuse me, whoa, hi, good morning, ladies. What's going on here?
Nicole: Oh, well, say hello to the bitch that turned out to be Theresa's silent partner.
Brady: Really? Wow.
Nicole: What do you mean, "wow"? Whose side are you on?
Brady: Nicole, Nicole, Kate is a great businesswoman. And she has tons of experience, and I say good for you.
Brady: It's a done deal, too, isn't it?
Kate: Yes, it is.
Brady: Well, then, I suggest you put your energy into learning how to play together in the same sandbox. Listen to me. What a great dad I am, making peace on the playground like that. I'm gonna go check on my son.
Kate: Uh-huh. [Humming]
Nicole: I don't care what Brady says. You are out, Kate.
Kate: These are my attorneys. Call them and ask them how much I'm going to sue you for if you make waves.
Theresa: Eve. Eve, come on. Look, we need to get through this, okay? Okay, for Paige.
Eve: Okay. For Paige. Gosh. She did always look so beautiful in this, didn't she?
Theresa: Yeah, she did. She looked beautiful in anything.
Eve: Oh, God.
Eve: Oh, I just remembered that Eduardo is gonna be at that funeral tomorrow playing the grieving father.
Theresa: Yeah, what's up with that?
Eve: Yeah. It's just that every time I-- I see him, I'm just reminded how everything was a lie.
Theresa: Selfish bastard.
Eve: You know, I just-- I really thought that I would just fall apart when he walked out on us but my beautiful, strong girl, she wouldn't let me do that, you know, she just--
Theresa: Yeah, hey.
Eve: She was so strong. She would hug me and say, "Mommy, it's okay. Don't cry. You got me." You know?
Theresa: She got you through it.
Eve: She got me through it, yeah, she did. Oh, now Eddie's back, she's gone, and I'm alone. [Crying]
Will: Gabi smiles all day at everybody.
Lucas: Well, wouldn't you if you just got out of jail?
Will: Hell, yeah.
Lucas: Yeah. So, any word from Sonny? No, huh? Listen, whatever I can do, just--just tell me, okay? Say the word. You want me to go see him? Do you want me to get on a plane and go to Paris and talk to--
Will: No, no.
Lucas: I will.
Will: I know you will, but please don't. Dad, no. And Sonny needs to--he needs to take however much time he needs and--and he's gonna do whatever he decides to do. I really don't want to talk about it. What about you and Adrienne? How is that going?
Lucas: Uh... is Gabi going back to school? She probably should go back to school, right? Get an education. Probably be best for everybody, don't you think?
Will: Dad, why don't-- why are you trying to change the subject? It's going that bad, huh?
Kayla: Adrienne, uh, this test will give you more than just an answer. It'll give you time. And if it turns out that you do have the genetic marker for breast cancer, you will have a slew of options to consider.
Adrienne: I know. I know I have it better than most people in this situation. It just-- why doesn't it feel that way?
Justin: Don't get me wrong, Abe. Certain individuals may have dragged their heels, been a little too cautious. But I'm in no way smearing the police department.
Abe: Good. Listen, I can't believe I'm saying this to a Kiriakis, but do whatever it takes.
Abe: Remember, you're in charge.
Lani: I am first, yeah. Um, this is the briefing room, right? I just wanted to make sure I was the first one here.
Abe: Oh, sorry, it's down the hall. Last door.
Lani: Really? Ugh, I'll be--well, this is a first for me. I just got directions from the mayor himself.
Abe: Excuse me? Do I know you?
Theresa: Come on, eve. Don't tell yourself things like that, okay? Your--your life hasn't disappeared. You--you have all those great memories. And you'll always have those.
Eve: Where did you get that stupid drivel, Theresa? Off some cheap sympathy card? God. Look I--I'm sorry.
Theresa: No, I shouldn't have said that I--
Eve: I'm sorry, no, that was awful, that was awful. You've been great. Thank you for--thank you for being here to help me. And, you know, I think it's just, you know, the-- the funeral and everything.
Theresa: Yeah, it's overwhelming.
Eve: Paige was everything to me and then we sit here-- we sit here and cry and beg for justice? And what do we get, Theresa? Nothing! But the only way that I'm gonna get justice for my daughter is to get it the way I want to get it. My way!
Theresa: Eve, come on. Don't--don't think like that.
Eve: [Sighs] You're right. I, um-- I don't even know what I'm thinking half the time. Or saying. I don't.
Theresa: Listen, why don't I make us something to eat, all right? When's the last time you had anything?
Eve: And, you know, Theresa, I think I need to just, um, be alone. Gotta--I gotta clear my head, okay? Yeah, I'll--I'll be fine.
Eve: I'll be fine.
Eve: It was sweet of you to be here for me.
Theresa: Hey, listen, listen. My phone's on, okay? If you need anything.
Marlena: You know, you said something earlier that's been bothering me about Chad.
Eric: The sessions you had with him?
Marlena: Yeah. What if he were setting me up? I mean, for an attack that would happen later on that day? I should've spotted that.
Eric: Any idea why you didn't?
Marlena: No, un-- no, unless--
Eric: Mom, what?
Marlena: Unless there was nothing to see?
Eric: Meaning he's not guilty. You know, I don't understand, Mom.
Marlena: I know. I don't either. Let's talk about something pleasant, all right? Let's talk about you.
Marlena: Tell me how you're doing.
Eric: Um, let's see, I lost my vocation and you know I started falling in love with a woman who turned out to be a lying manipulator and then murdered. Then I fell in love with a woman before that and she was also a lying manipulator, who turned her life around and then fell in love with someone who was my good friend. You know what, I'm actually thinking about taking up some boxing lessons because I just don't feel like I've been beat up enough. That's about all.
Marlena: So quit joking now. And tell me the truth.
Eric: And who would that be? My mom, or a psychiatrist?
Marlena: Maybe both?
Nicole: You think threatening a lawsuit is gonna stop me? Hmm?
Kate: Nicole, if we drag out this ownership battle for months, we're going to throw the company into bankruptcy. Which means we both lose a hell of a lot of money.
Theresa: What are you guys doing here? I mean, together.
Nicole: There you are. You were supposed to be here waiting for me but I guess you lied about that just like you lied about Kate not being your so-called silent partner.
Theresa: Look, I didn't lie. I just didn't tell--
Nicole: You didn't? Because where the hell were you? Oh, did you think you could avoid me forever? I'm partner. I'm important.
Theresa: Look, I was at my sister's house, okay? Comforting her over the loss of her daughter, Paige. My niece, she was murdered. Her burial is tomorrow.
Nicole: Theresa, I'm sorry. You and your sister must be, uh--look, sometimes things come out of my mouth and, uh, I wish I could do something to make things right.
Theresa: Just try to get along, okay?
Nicole: Excuse me? I mean, with Kate? Who's been a total snake?
Kate: Nicole. This is a sad time. We need to move past it.
Nicole: Fine. All right, look, we got a company to run.
Lucas: I guess the upshot is that Adrienne wants to, uh, take one more try at keeping her family and her marriage together.
Will: But the divorce was final.
Lucas: Yeah, well, I guess when it comes to people's feelings, nothing is final.
Will: Wow. Dad, I'm--I'm sorry.
Lucas: Yeah, yeah. Just stay out of it, okay? Let's not talk about that anymore. Concentrate on Sonny. I don't want to talk about his mother.
Will: Okay, look, I realize that things are kind of a little bit awkward now, but here's what I'm thinking. Sonny gave me a million chances to fix things, and I blew every one of them. I was manipulative, I was jealous, I was insecure. Name it. But if I had just been honest from the get-go, I would not be alone right now. Nobody knows more about being alone than you. Dad, you were alone for years. Until Adrienne came along.
Justin: Eve. I'm sorry. You shouldn't have seen that. Is there something you wanted?
Eve: Justice. How about justice?
Eve: Yeah, you know what? Actually, I just came down here to lay my eyes on the piece of slime who murdered my daughter, but guess what? I can't do that because you haven't caught him yet. You haven't arrested him yet.
Justin: Yes, but he will be--
Eve: Do you know what tomorrow is? You tell me, will I get justice then when I'm seeing them lower my baby into the ground?
Justin: Eve, we will get Chad DiMera. I promise you.
Eve: Yeah, well, you better. You better find justice for my little girl, by
god, or I'll find somebody who will!
Nicole: Look at those fall expenses.
Kate: Yeah, yeah, we're gonna reign those in first thing.
Theresa: Hey, guys, the spring designs. We got to get moving on this--
Kate: You know, we're working on a budget here, Theresa. If we don't shore up the financial structure of this company, there won't be a spring.
Nicole: Yeah, there might not be a new year's.
Kate: Okay, so I just sent you my three-year plan, you know, I think if we start with small boutique outlets.
Nicole: No, Kate, Kate, if we get any smaller, we'll be invisible. I say that we borrow at the market and go all in.
Kate: No, we're not gonna stake our future on a roll of the dice. That doesn't make any sense.
Theresa: Yeah, but listen, if we just got the right designs--
Nicole: This isn't a government program. Three years, it's just--that's not realistic.
Kate: We need to work in--
Nicole: It's ridiculous. It's idiotic, actually.
Kate: In case there's a mistake, we have to take--
Nicole: What are you saying? Are you saying that we're just gonna fail?
Kate: Everything that we try is going to work--
Brady: Will you please, please, please, shut the hell up?
Justin: Eve, listen. I don't make promises lightly, but I'm gonna make one right now. I'm gonna see to it that you get justice.
Eve: Thank you. What--I'm not impressed enough?
Justin: No. I was just remembering my family used to always take care of their business outside the law. For decades. It was always brutal. Always wrong.
Eve: Well, now you're working inside the system.
Justin: Yes, I am. And so should you. But you have to be patient.
Eve: I know I just sounded a little gangster back there in the police station. I'm sorry.
Justin: It's okay. But trust me, this is gonna work out. I would never lie to you about that.
Abe: So you trained in Miami?
Lani: Yes, sir. Two years on patrol. Sorry--Lani. Pleased to meet you, mayor carver.
Abe: Well, it's my pleasure. So you've obviously done your homework on Salem.
Lani: Oh, because I know you're the mayor? No, sir. I've known about you a long time.
Lani: You were one of our 10 role models that we studied in advanced civics. I remember you were listed as "aso." Always serving others. Oh, my god, that sounds like I'm trying to score points. I'm not.
Abe: Well, it's, uh-- it's understood. Thank you for the compliment. But you should probably get to the briefing room.
Lani: Right. I don't want to be late on my first day. It was nice to talk to you, sir.
Abe: Thank you. Lani, excuse me, um... are you sure we never met?
Lani: No, sir. I'd remember.
Adrienne: Oh, jeez.
Lucas: Listen, I saw what you saw. You want to talk about it?
Adrienne: You know what, um, I'm fine. I think I just misread the situation, you know? Eve just lost her daughter, for heaven's sake, and Justin--Justin was comforting her. Letting her know that people care. That everything was gonna be done.
Lucas: All right, well, if seeing Justin with eve isn't bothering you, I believe that. But it's gotta be something. There's gotta be something going on with you. Is it me? Is it because of what I said when I told you that you were making a mistake by giving Justin another chance?
Adrienne: No, no. Could we just not talk about that, please? Please?
Lucas: Okay. Let me just say this. Whatever's going on, whatever's bothering you, I would love to help in any way I can. I mean, there was a time when we could tell each other anything. So I'm here if you--
Adrienne: All right. I'll tell you.
Today, Jason is
here to volunteer
Brady: My son, uh, he's trying to sleep. He's upstairs. Upstairs, which is where I heard every single word you were shouting.
Theresa: I wasn't shouting.
Kate: Sorry. We'll try to keep it down.
Nicole: Yes, sorry. We'll be much better.
Brady: Thank you. I'm gonna check my messages.
Kate: So, I think we will revisit the budget later. Hopefully when we have both had time to think about it. So let's get to the design end.
Theresa: Oh, yes, finally. Okay, so--
Nicole: Honey, Theresa, would you mind getting us some coffee?
Kate: Ugh, I'd love some coffee, mm-hmm.
Theresa: Uh, yeah. I can just, uh, ring the bell for Henderson and--
Nicole: Actually, it'd be a lot faster if you could just get it yourself. Okay, did you see the style magazines from last month? I mean, I have a few here--
Kate: I do.
Nicole: Impressive, right?
Kate: I remember those. Theresa, the coffee. Oh, absolutely. Who's the photographer? S. Wiggins? Do you know S. Wiggins?
Nicole: Beats me. I mean, these look like they were shot from a spy cam on a drone.
Kate: That's totally embarrassing.
Nicole: I know.
Kate: See, what we need to do is get--there--see, something like that.
Nicole: I think it's the colors, the movement. That's something that I wanted to deal with today, I mean, we need a photographer who understands style.
Kate: I couldn't agree more.
Nicole: Okay, so that's why I was hoping we could convince Eric to join us.
Kate: I have put out feelers to Giovanni Carpolini. We need the best, right?
Nicole: Yes. No, I mean, I already offered Eric the job.
Kate: [Sighs] Nicole, we are trying to reinvigorate a dying company. This is going to be all uphill. Why would we hire a fashion photographer whose last gig was taking photographs for the hospital newsletter?
Nicole: Well, because, I mean, he's been a little--
Kate: Look, I understand. I know he's your friend. I like him, too, but we have to be realistic. If we're going to have one opportunity to do this, we have to do it right. Look. Don't you think we need a master?
Nicole: Yes. I guess you're right.
Eric: It's been hard. Life's been a long, downhill run. I know, suck it up. Move on. The fact is, I just-- I'm starting to feel a little confused.
Marlena: You know, there are so many constants in your life. Compassion, integrity, kindness. Things that are part of your core. So they'll always be there. You'll never feel confused. Go out there. Find some challenges and take them on. And you'll do just fine.
Eric: I should've come to my psychiatrist sooner.
Marlena: Do that next time, okay?
Eric: Okay. You want some more tea?
Marlena: Uh, no, no. I'm fine, thank you. But I'm thinking maybe I'll just go lie down. I didn't get a lot of rest last night.
Eric: Okay, well, I'll let you get to it.
Marlena: Oh, honey.
Eric: Take care, okay?
Marlena: You take care too.
Eric: You know, I can stay if you want. I mean, if you have any doubts about Chad not being guilty and want to talk it through.
Marlena: I don't want to think about all that for a while, okay? I'll text you.
Eric: Okay. Abe, hey, how are you?
Abe: Eric, hi, hi. Marlena.
Eric: You know, I was just on my way out. My mom needs rest.
Abe: Well, I won't stay very long. Just checking on an old friend.
Eric: Good. It's nice to see you. I'll talk to you later, Mom. I love you.
Marlena: I love you. Come on in.
Abe: Thank you. What did I hear? You think Chad DiMera isn't guilty? You better explain that.
Eve: Justin, you always seem to make things just a little bit better, you know? Not that I'm not gonna wake up in hell tomorrow morning. I mean, if I sleep at all tonight.
Justin: Well, my phone's always on. So if there's anything you need, or if you just want to talk.
Justin: Don't hesitate to call.
Justin: Any time. Would you like me to escort you to the funeral service?
Eve: You're so kind. Thank you. Thank you for everything.
Lucas: I'm so sorry. I am so sorry you're going through this.
Adrienne: No, it's just nerve-racking, you know? I mean, I haven't even gotten any bad news yet. When I think about so many people I've known and I'm sure you've met, too, who were diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and here I am worrying about myself. I have no reason to. I mean, everything could be just fine, you know?
Lucas: I'm sure it will be fine. And at least it's good news about your mother.
Adrienne: Yeah, yeah. She's doing well. Well, you know, well enough.
Lucas: Right. And if they find out that--that you share the same gene, then--
Adrienne: There are--there are preventative measures. [Sighs] Just waiting is-- oh, god, sorry, it's waiting is so, so hard.
Lucas: No, no, I know. You know what? In that case, I think, uh, I think you need a distraction.
Lucas: Come here. Come with me, all right?
Adrienne: No, Lucas.
Lucas: Come on, come on.
Adrienne: No, wait.
Lucas: Come on, it's gonna be fine. No arguments.
Theresa: Okay, I got the coffee that you guys wanted. So, I was, um-- what's going on?
Nicole: Oh, the coffee, right, sorry. No time.
Kate: I am off to make an offer to Carpolini.
Kate: And if he turns it down, then I'm just going to put out feelers to the Marquette brothers.
Nicole: Okay, and while you're doing that, I will check out those three designers.
Theresa: Wait, what designers? What the hell? I'm the designer!
Kate: Right off the bat?
Theresa: Well, I'm good. I'm damn good.
Kate: You do have talent.
Kate: A lot of it, actually.
Nicole: Theresa, honey, look, we put a pile of money into this company, all right? Let's wait till it's a success and then maybe you'll get a trial. Ciao.
Theresa: What is with you people? Look, I didn't get into this so I could go get you coffee.
Kate: Of course you didn't. You wanted to be the designer.
Kate: But no one, and I mean no one, starts at the top. Now, we're going to be bringing in a lot of people with amazing talent and you're going to study under them, and you're going to work with them, and eventually, you'll realize that you were given the education and the chance of a lifetime. I'll talk to you soon.
Theresa: [Sighs] [Grunts] Just--
Brady: Is everything okay?
Theresa: Do I look okay to you?
Marlena: I am not making that assertion. What I am saying is, that it's very questionable for a person who was guilty to come looking for help.
Abe: Marlena, think. It was a very smart move. It laid the groundwork for reasonable doubt if he got caught.
Marlena: Then why did he strangle me? Doesn't that do away with reasonable doubt? And what about making multiple appointments? If he were planning on killing me?
Abe: Yeah, I don't-- I don't know. And you don't either. But in the meantime, you cannot afford to make any more mistakes.
Marlena: Excuse me?
Abe: You don't think it was a mistake to accept Chad as a client? When you'd agreed to do a profile on the killer for the police department?
Marlena: He was only a person of interest then.
Abe: Look, maybe, you know, it wasn't illegal, but it's clearly a breach of ethics.
Abe: [Sighs] Marlena, I'm here as a friend. And yes, Chad is family. But I need to be objective here, as do you. So I'm warning you, if he makes contact, talk him into turning himself in. If you offer him safe haven and shield him in any way, even under the guise of giving him therapy, you will be charged as an accessory.
Eve: [Sighs] [Sobs] [Groans] [Sobbing]
Adrienne: I can't believe it. You kidnapped me.
Lucas: Well, I had no choice. What was I supposed to do? And the boat did its job, you know? Did the job it was supposed to do, 'cause I saw you smiling halfway to sandbar island. You had a big smile on your face.
Adrienne: [Laughing] Okay, I smiled, I smiled. Oh, that wind on my face, and the bouncing of the waves. You are so-- you always know exactly what I need. Thank you.
Lucas: Well, uh, just-- just call me if you ever want to do it again, okay?
Adrienne: I will.
Lucas: I'm gonna go. Uh, but take care, and, um, let me know when you find out something.
Adrienne: I will, thank you.
Lucas: All right.
Adrienne: Oh, hi.
Justin: Hi. I thought you told me that you and Lucas were, uh--
Adrienne: Justin. Justin, we're friends. That's never gonna change.
Justin: Oh, well, I just--
Adrienne: Uh, you--we're doing so good. Can we just not push it, please? Please?
Adrienne: Oh, excuse me. Hey, how's it going?
Kayla: I just wanted to give you an update. I, um, I called the lab and double-checked and made sure that they knew that the blood work was a rush.
Adrienne: Thank you.
Kayla: Do you want me to be with you when you get the news?
Adrienne: Uh, if I need you, I'll call you.
Kayla: Please, and we'll talk. And in the meantime, take care of yourself, okay? And stay busy. And remember, there is a good chance that there is nothing to worry about.
Adrienne: I will. Thanks. Bye.
Justin: Who was that?
Adrienne: A friend.
Justin: You okay?
Adrienne: Yeah, fine. I'm fine, it's good. It's all good.
Justin: Walk you home?
Adrienne: Thank you. Thanks.
Nicole: Get back to me as soon as you can. This is big. Bye.
Eric: Hi, I'm really happy that I ran into you. You know, I was thinking about that offer you made me at basic black, and, you know, the way I turned my nose up to it. I was wondering, is that offer still available?
Nicole: I, um--
Nicole: Oh, look, I'm glad you brought that up because--
Nicole: You know what, now's not a good time. I gotta take this, okay?
Eric: Hey, Nicole--
Theresa: You know, I'm the one who put the deal together so I could have my shot at being a designer and they just--they treat me like I don't even--
Brady: I know, Theresa. Theresa, Theresa, stop. Listen, I get it, I get it. Hey, listen, take a breath. Look at me. You may be part owner, you may have ambition, you may have talent, but these things don't happen overnight. Athletes, artists, schoolteachers, you name it, none of these people were at the top of their game right out of the box.
Theresa: You know, now you sound like Kate.
Brady: Maybe I do. But I can tell you something that I doubt she did. You will make it. You--you got it. You have the ambition. You have the determination. You have the talent. You have the drive. You have it all. Everything you need. And I know Tate is gonna be very proud of his mom one day. You're just one of those people. You're gonna find yourself on the top of a mountain, and you are gonna be one of the best, and you're gonna-- that was not the reaction that I was hoping for. At all.
