Justin: Eve... what are we doing?
Lucas: No, no, actually, I didn't buy a boat. But I did rent one. Yup, we have a picnic hamper chock-full. We have a nice bottle of Bordeaux if you'd like a little wine while you're out there. That could be all you. We'll head out on the river-- way out, way beyond the city lights. And it's amazing tonight. I mean, the view, it's unbelievable. It's a sky full of stars. It's about as romantic as it gets. We could see everything.
Adrienne: I can't do this.
Daniel: What? Well, you better pick which ice cream you want, 'cause I can-- I want you to focus right here, and you pick an ice cream. I'm gonna talk to a friend, okay? I will be right back. Hey, man. How you doing?
Eric: I'm doin' fine. Leave me alone.
Theresa: Well, thank you for coming.
Nicole: Actually, I was on my way to meet Daniel and parker at TBD. You said this was about Eric.
Theresa: Uh, well...
Nicole: Oh, for heaven's-- all right, what do you want from me?
Theresa: Okay, listen. Brady said that you wanted to buy basic black but he only loaned you half of the money you need.
Theresa: And... I'd like to put up the other half. We'd be partners.
Nicole: You must be out of your mind.
Brady: You rejoined the ISA so you could find your parents?
Marlena: I had no idea you still wanted to dig into your past. You know, you haven't said a word about that.
John: I'm just sick and tired of not knowing, doc. I mean, I know that I'm-- I'm not an Alamain. I know that I'm not a DiMera. So who the hell am I?
Julie: So the martin family, they built this way back when. I believe this was the first mansion ever built in Salem.
Maggie: Well, the renovations have already started. My goodness.
Julie: Yes, and they're supposed to be finished in time for the big bicentennial celebration. [Laughs] So, Caroline, what do you think of it?
Maggie: Caroline? You okay?
Victor: So the upshot is, Justin is no longer at titan.
Kate: He's our new district attorney. My, my.
Victor: Right. So that means Miranda styles will be in charge at mad world. You'll report to her.
Kate: Hmm, fine.
Victor: That's it? "Fine"? You hate Miranda styles.
Kate: She's a disgusting bitch.
Victor: Well, then why isn't steam coming out of your ears?
Kate: Is that what you want to see? I'm so sorry to disappoint you, but I know how this business works. You know, everything can just turn on a dime, sometimes every week.
Theresa: Look, Nicole, we've both done things that we're not proud of, right? Somehow you've always managed to turn your life around, and that's what I'm trying to do here, okay? I just need a chance.
Nicole: You have zero experience.
Theresa: But I have talent. And I can learn--from you. Look, I'm offering to put up the other half of the money, okay? And basic black is going to sell-- soon. So what happens if you don't find another partner in time?
Marlena: John, you've searched for your birth records before, and I'm sorry to say, but every time...
John: I got the rug pulled out from under me. I know.
Marlena: So why try it again?
John: I don't want to go out of this world being known as the man without a past. I want answers, doc.
Brady: When did you decide this, dad?
John: Well, about the time I opened my eyes in the hospital after being in a coma for God knows how long. Just think of it as a wake-up call from Theresa. And you're right, doc. It's like you said. I've been down this path before. But this time, I've got the tools and experience. I can find the truth.
Brady: Okay, dad. Say you do. What if you don't like what you find?
Caroline: Sorry, I kind of spaced out. I'm just--I'm tired. I didn't get much sleep last night. I didn't know the martins. Did you?
Julie: Oh, the original family, no, no, I never did. But I did have a teenage romance with the grandson, David martin. That ended when he married a girl that I detested named Susan.
Caroline: Oh, well, how did that turn out?
Julie: Not well. She killed him.
Maggie: [Gasps] Really?
Julie: Yes, and then his mother went insane.
Maggie: Oh, for pity's sake!
Julie: And his father just... left town, took off. And that's when this place was abandoned, derelict. I think that must have been sometime in the 1960s. I think this place is perfect, perfect for the bicentennial celebration. It's almost like Salem itself. It's just full of memories.
Lucas: Wait a minute. I don't understand. I know you're not afraid of water.
Lucas: And it really is a beautiful night.
Adrienne: It is. Oh, my God. I can't tell you how wonderful you've been, how you put so much energy into making everything perfect every single time we meet. God, and all the laughs... I never would have made it through the past few months if it hadn't been for you.
Adrienne: I've made a decision. I need to give my marriage one more try.
Eve: Justin, my God. I'm so sorry.
Justin: It's okay.
Eve: No, I--
Justin: It's okay.
Eve: I'm not in my right mind. Nothing--nothing feels real to me, and I don't want it to. I want it-- I want to wake up-- I want to wake up from this dream and have my daughter still be alive. Oh, God.
Justin: Eve, eve, eve, eve, eve. Listen to me. If you'd like, I am more than happy to stay with you, as a friend. Just stay here for a little bit. I can do that.
Eve: No. It's-- no. I--I need-- I need to be alone. I've got-- I've got to call my dad. I got to tell him. I got to tell him about Paige. So...
Justin: I'm so very sorry.
Eve: I know. I know.
Justin: And please--please text me if you need anything, okay?
Eve: Mm-hmm, I will. Thank you. Thank you.
Daniel: And never let go. Eric, what are you doing?
Eric: What's it look like?
Daniel: Well, getting drunk isn't really how you solve problems. Why tonight?
Eric: Tonight I decided I've made a lot of decisions... you know, over the past few years, and, you know, a lot of those decisions, they didn't work out. They were wrong. Wrong, wrong. You know, I tried the praying thing.
Eric: And that was wrong, so I tried the love thing, and that was wrong, so I thought I'd do the most reasonable thing and turn the other cheek. And that was wrong. So I decided to stop thinking entirely. Concentrate on the drinking. You want to join me for one?
Daniel: No, I'm good. I'm good.
Eric: Oh, you know what? You're right. Why have one when we could have ten? Stop calculating. You're right. It's about having fun. F-u-N.
Daniel: Doesn't really look like you're having fun, Eric. Look, if this is about Serena, man...
Eric: Oh, it's not. It's about trying something new 'cause everything else I decided to do was wrong... and wrong. So why even bother?
Daniel: Well, you got a lot going for you. That's why you bother. Got a great family, great education. You know how to reach out to people--
Eric: Would you just stop preaching to me? Really? You've got everything you want. I mean, for you, life is good. Everything always works out for you. You know, right now, the last thing I need to hear is your pep talk.
Lucas: I don't understand. I mean, was I pushing too hard? Was that it? I mean, we don't have to do that triathlon thing. That was stupid anyway.
Adrienne: No, no, no, no, no. No, no, you didn't--- you never did anything wrong, honestly.
Lucas: Then I'm a little confused. I don't know where all this is coming from.
Adrienne: It's a combination of things. I called Sonny today, this afternoon, in Paris, and we got to talking, and we started talking about a lot of the good times we used to have as a family, you know? And I... [Sighs] I swear I could hear it in his voice, Lucas, how much this divorce is hurting him-- and all my boys.
Lucas: So you've decided.
Adrienne: I owe it to them, to our family. And Justin too, I guess. One more chance. And I'm sorry. I can see how much this hurts you. I'm so sorry.
Lucas: No. I mean, I'm not gonna act like I'm happy about it.
Adrienne: You've been my rock these past few months. I can't thank you enough.
Lucas: Wow, okay. All right, I'm not gonna try to talk you out of it. The main thing is, is I want you to be happy, and if that's with Justin, then I... guess that's with Justin.
Adrienne: Thank you.
Nicole: Where are you gonna get the money to cover your half?
Theresa: Well, I have a silent partner, so it's kind of hush-hush. Sorry. But don't worry. It'll just be us making the decisions.
Nicole: I have to admit I've been chasing my tail around town, trying to find people to buy in. [Exhales deeply] I guess we got a deal.
Theresa: Oh, thank you! Thank you! Oh, my God! We are gonna be so great together! We're gonna be perfect! It's gonna be amazing!
Nicole: All right, yes, let's hope so, but we still have a lot of work to do, okay?
Theresa: Yeah, I know. I know. Okay. Yeah.
Nicole: All right, I got to go, and I will text you when we can make that pitch to john.
Theresa: Okay, well, my phone will always be on... partner!
Nicole: Take care. Yup.
John: No, not really worried about what I'll find out. I mean, my God, some of my other searches? Let's see... turns out I was an art thief, a priest...
Marlena: Stefano's half brother.
John: Oh, yeah, that was a real kick in the head. So I guess, to answer your question, no.
[Cell phone rings]
Marlena: Sorry. Excuse me. Hello.
Eve: Marlena, I'm sorry. I'm so--so sorry.
Marlena: What's happened?
Eve: I know I shouldn't call you at home, but I-- I need help.
Marlena: Tell me what's going on.
Eve: I, um... I just found out tonight that my sweet, sweet Paige... was killed--murdered.
Marlena: Oh, my God. Are you home? I'm coming straight to you.
Marlena: Okay. I'll be right there. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I have to go. This conversation isn't over. (Music plays)
Eric: Hey, good. You're here. Would you do me a favor and take this do-gooder home? Because I'm trying to get a buzz here, and he's ruining everything by talk-talk-talk-talk-talking.
Nicole: Wow, how much have you had to drink?
Eric: Not enough.
Daniel: Yeah, I had parker go home with Joanna. Tried to get Eric to slow down, but he's not having it. So let's get him home.
Nicole: Yeah, let's do it. And if he doesn't go, we'll drag him.
Daniel: All right, I'll settle the bill.
Nicole: Okay, Eric, closing time.
Eric: Oh, no, no, no.
Nicole: Time to go home. Yes, yes.
Eric: Sit down. Sit down. We're not done. I'm just getting started.
Nicole: Yeah. All right, I'll tell you what. You let me take you home, and we'll have a drink together. Better yet, we'll knock back more than a few. How's that?
Nicole: Oh, yeah.
Daniel: All right, how's it going?
Eric: Oh, we're doing good. We're going back to my house, and we are gonna have more drinks.
Daniel: All right, well, that sounds like a plan.
Nicole: Okay, here we go.
Daniel: Come on. Let's do it.
Nicole: Home again, home again, jiggity-jig.
Daniel: Right this way.
Eric: Come over to my house.
Nicole: We're all going. Let's go.
Eve: It was so awful, what that maniac did to her. I had to identify her... the body.
Marlena: Oh, eve. I'm so sorry.
Eve: And then the worst, you know, when I had to tell daddy, well, he just fell to pieces. I'm sorry to call you. I just didn't know what else to do. I mean, how do-- Marlena, how do I deal with never-- never seeing my daughter, that she's gone forever? I just--
Marlena: You do that one moment at a time. You will get through this... with the help of all the people who love you and care about you, your family, your friends. Have you told Theresa?
Eve: Mm-mm, not yet. Mm-mm.
Marlena: Come. Tell me about Paige. What she was like?
Eve: Paige. Oh, my God, my Paige. She was just... so--so sweet. You know, she was-- she was my everything, my rock. She was the only-- the only good thing that... it was, you know, Paige and me against the world when her father walked out on us. And we just-- we shared everything. And then I--I ruined it all. I betrayed her in the worst possible way.
Marlena: Was that when you came to see me, when you were so upset?
Marlena: Do you want to tell me what happened? How you think you betrayed her?
Eve: Well, it's-- it's hard to talk about, especially now.
Marlena: I understand. I thought it might be helpful to you. You don't need to.
Eve: No. I need to. I deserve to feel the shame and humiliation of having everybody know that I, um-- I had an affair with a boy that she loved. Yeah, that's right. JJ. I'm a horrible person. I destroy everything that I touch, and I can see that you hate me too now.
Marlena: No. I'm not judging you at all.
Eve: Well, you should. I destroyed the last few months of my daughter's life, and now I'm never gonna be able to make it up to her. I'm never gonna be able to make it up to her.
Julie: All right, ladies, it's time to organize the old photographs.
Maggie: Oh, my goodness. And this is just the first batch. Oh, my goodness.
Caroline: Oh! Look at this.
Maggie: Oh, it's the Brady fish market.
Caroline: That was before Shawn and I turned it into the Brady pub.
Julie: Well, I remember that!
Caroline: Yeah. So many good memories, you know.
Caroline: Excuse me. I need a minute.
[Music box playing "Fur Elise"]
Caroline: [Gasps] Ah!
Maggie: Are you okay?
Maggie: Honey, honey.
Caroline: Where am I?
Maggie: We're in the old martin mansion, remember?
Maggie: The old martin mansion, remember?
Caroline: Oh! Oh. Oh, I'm sorry. I just--
Maggie: It's okay.
Caroline: I was just-- it's just-- it's just those silly old photographs.
Maggie: Sure. That's it, yeah.
Kate: Lucas? Are you okay?
Kate: Oh, come on. You haven't talked to me for months, ever since I--
Lucas: Stabbed me in the back and took my job?
Kate: [Sighs] Can't hold a grudge forever. It's bad for the soul.
Lucas: Yeah, yeah. Like you know what that is.
Kate: So does this condition have anything to do with Adrienne? It figures. Justin becomes some big mucky-mucky DA, and of course she runs back to him. It's power--it's the ultimate aphrodisiac. I know you don't want to hear this from me, but you're actually so much better off having that vampire out of your life.
Lucas: You know what? Thank you. Thank you, mom. Your opinion of Adrienne is very helpful.
Lucas: Yeah, knowing exactly how you feel about her makes me realize how much she means to me. So I think I'll fight for her. You have a good night.
Nicole: Well, at least he's asleep. But tomorrow he's gonna be one sick puppy.
Daniel: Yeah. You know, I don't think it's a good idea that he sleeps alone tonight. Could you go home and stay with parker while I just camp out here?
Nicole: Yeah, sure.
Daniel: Oh, thanks.
Nicole: But just remember, tomorrow he's gonna be tormented by the same things. He loved Serena, she betrayed him totally, he rejected her, and she died. It's overwhelming.
Daniel: Yeah, I don't think it's all just about Serena.
Daniel: Eric's lost. He needs to find a new direction in his life, some-- I don't know, some kind of purpose.
Eve: I broke my daughter's heart. She died hating me.
Marlena: Stop. Don't do this to yourself.
Eve: No. I deserve-- I deserve to be hated.
Marlena: Nobody deserves that. You adored your daughter. She knew that.
Eve: How could she have known that when I betrayed her in such a horrible way? I always--I always tried to be a good mother, to devote myself to my paigey's happiness, but I'm too selfish, you see. That's why I'm a horrible mother. Well, you know, that's wrong, because no, I'm-- I'm not a mother anymore, now, am I?
Marlena: That's not so. You will always be Paige's mother.
Marlena: I've had the experience of losing a child. I know how endless that feels. But I also know you go on. You take it one minute, one breath at a time... and then an hour and then a day.
Eve: Well, you're strong. I'm weak. I'm useless.
Marlena: Will you promise me something?
Eve: Um, if I can.
Marlena: I need you to try letting go of the guilt. Of course you can mourn Paige, but when you think of her, think of her smile. Think of the happiness she felt. Think of the joy she brought to your lives. Eve, you'll get through this. You will. I promise. And I also promise you won't be alone.
Eve: Thank you. Thank you.
Victor: Oh, there you are.
Maggie: Good morning.
Victor: How's the planning going for the bicentennial?
Maggie: Okay. Uh, Caroline had a few strange moments.
Victor: I'll speak to Kayla.
Maggie: Do. I'm afraid she may be worse than we thought.
Caroline: Shawn? I'm back. Shawn? Are you here?
Adrienne: Thanks for meeting me.
Justin: Of course. Sounded important. What's up? Have a seat.
Adrienne: Oh, thanks. Um...hmm. I've been doing a lot of thinking about what we've been through this past year. I'm sure you know how much your affair... I've been working very hard to get to a place where I can forgive you. And I think maybe I'm kind of getting to that place.
Justin: That... is a surprise. What happened?
Adrienne: I think we were too quick to divorce. Justin, do you think maybe... we could try to make our marriage work?
[Knock at door]
Daniel: Ah, you did it!
Nicole: Got your favorite bagels.
Daniel: Thank you.
Daniel: Mm, excellent.
Nicole: So parker is off to school, complete with PB&j and a half peeled orange and a cookie. How's that?
Daniel: Wow. Looking like that, that is terrific. Thank you.
Nicole: How's Eric?
Eric: Not so good.
Nicole: Hey. Morning.
Daniel: Coffee's hot. Right there.
Eric: Thank you. I'm sorry about last night. I didn't know you were staying over.
Daniel: Okay, look, no problem, man. No problem.
[Cell phone rings]
Eric: You know, the things that I said--
Daniel: Hey, hey, you know what? Forget about it.
Eric: I wish I could.
Daniel: All right, I got to-- I got to get to the hospital. All right? Eric, three words, buddy: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. You, I will text later.
Nicole: Okay, you got it.
Daniel: Bye now.
Nicole: Bye. So...headache?
Nicole: Oh, please. I've done a lot worse than get drunk in a nightclub. I think I've said, "I'm sorry," to every man, woman, and child in Salem. [Chuckles] Eric, are you feeling a little lost? 'Cause if you are... I think I have a solution.
Brady: Hey. Sorry. Can't sleep all day.
Theresa: Oh, God. Did I sleep here all night?
Brady: Yes, you did. You want some juice?
Theresa: Yes, please. Oh, I feel like my eyes are-- oh, God! I'm so sorry.
Brady: It's all right. It's not a problem. It's not a problem.
Brady: It's okay. It's okay. Don't worry about it.
Theresa: God, I'm such a klutz sometimes. Guess I should... where's Tate?
Brady: He's with the nanny. Looks like you were working all night.
Theresa: Yeah. I was just so excited. I found an investor, Brady. Nicole and I are gonna buy basic black.
Brady: I'm sorry, you and-- you and Nicole?
Brady: That's going to be a complete disaster.
John: You got up early.
Marlena: I couldn't sleep.
John: Oh, my God. So that's who you went to see last night.
Marlena: I did what I could. It's just... heartbreaking. It made me realize that family is everything. And we never get to know how long we'll to have them.
John: No. Never.
Marlena: So I've come to a decision. You know I'm very leery about you going back to the ISA, but if it means that you can find your family, I think you have to do it.
Justin: This is a lot to take in.
Adrienne: I know.
Justin: When we signed our divorce papers, you seemed so sure. What changed your mind?
Adrienne: I was talking to Sonny yesterday, and we were reminiscing, and... we have such a beautiful family.
Justin: We're very lucky.
Adrienne: Yes. We are. We have so much history. There was a whole lot of love at one time. And I believe that there still is, in spite of the problems that we've had lately. You are so important to me, Justin, and I hope I'm still important to you too.
Justin: Of course you are. That will never change.
Adrienne: Aside from that, I think it would mean so much to our boys if we could try to fix what went wrong. What do you think?
Justin: I think I'd really like to try.
Caroline: Shawn! [Gasps] Oh, God. Am I losing my mind?
Victor: Good morning.
Victor: Kayla in yet?
Daniel: She got pulled into surgery. Anything I can help you with?
Victor: No. No, that's all right. I'll try and catch her later.
Daniel: Okay. Well, I got patients. See you.
Victor: Dr. Salinas, Victor Kiriakis. I need to know when that formula is gonna be ready for human trials.
Nicole: I'm gonna try and buy basic black.
Eric: That's a huge company, isn't it?
Nicole: Well, it's more of a niche company nowadays.
Nicole: The deal's not done yet, but when it is, you should come on board. You're an amazing photographer, and I could use you from day one.
Eric: Nicole, I don't need your charity.
Nicole: It's not charity. It's payback. Okay, remember when my life was at its lowest? Who gave me a job at the church? You saved me. You gave my life focus. I could do the same for you.
Eric: Nicole, I don't need your help. Really don't. And I don't want it. I can manage on my own.
Theresa: Hey. Done deal. Nicole and I are a team as of last night. We just need to speak to john and make a bid on basic black.
Kate: And you followed the plan?
Theresa: Yup. She just knows I have a silent partner. No idea it's you.
Kate: Great. I am so going to enjoy collaborating with you and Nicole.
Theresa: Wait. I thought you just wanted ownership. You didn't say anything about working with us.
Kate: Well, I have to keep an eye on my investment, you know. Can't take chances in business. Talk to you soon, partner.
