Episode #12668 ~ Hope contemplates accepting Aiden's proposal; Stefano offers to clear Chad's name if he pursues Abigail once again; a distraught Eric lashes out.
Provided By Suzanne
Aiden: Oh! Morning, beautiful. When did you wake up?
Hope: A while ago.
Aiden: Oh... ooh, I overslept.
Hope: Yeah, that's probably because you were tossing and turning all night. Was pretty restless.
Aiden: Really? I'm sorry. I hope I didn't keep you awake.
Hope: Well, I wasn't sleeping so well myself, actually.
Aiden: Something bothering you?
Hope: Well, um... yeah. Actually, there is. I can't help feeling that you're keeping something from me.
Abigail: Chad? You can't be running. Chad DiMera doesn't run away unless...
Justin: Chad DiMera! You're under arrest for the murder of Serena mason.
Ben: Hey, hey... what's wrong?
Abigail: [Exhaling heavily] I, uh... uh, nothing, nothing. I'm sorry I woke you.
Ben: It's no big deal. Hey, it's you I'm worried about. Abigail, you don't look fine. Just went kind of pale just now. Were you having a bad dream?
Stefano: Well, well. Good morning, Chad.
Chad: I have nothing left to say to you.
Stefano: On the contrary, we have so much to talk about.
Chad: Just to tell me that Justin Kiriakis is now acting DA?
Stefano: And...he is gunning for your arrest.
Chad: I'm surprised you give a damn. Last I heard, I was no longer a DiMera. No longer your son. Unless, of course, what, you came here to kiss and make up?
Stefano: My interest is in mitigating any bad publicity. Do you understand?
Chad: Oh, come on. What's a little murder investigation to the DiMeras? I mean, you, Kristen, EJ? After all of the monstrous things you've done, isn't it a bit late to worry about disparaging the DiMera name?
Stefano: [Laughs] That's cute, but this is not about the past, Chad. This is about the future. Your future.
Chad: Uh-huh. Well, I thought we established that you no longer care about me or my future.
Stefano: I have had a change of heart.
Chad: Yeah, I knew you couldn't stick to the ol' tough love thing, you old softie.
Chad: So you're here to welcome me back into the fold, are you?
Stefano: I am willing to do that, yes. And I will help you get clear of the murder charges that are about to come crashing down on your head.
Chad: How big of you! Okay. So what's the catch?
Stefano: All you have to do...
Chad: Oh, here it is. That's a drumroll for you.
Stefano: [Laughs] Yeah. Is go after what I know you really want, okay? You want to win back Abigail's heart and her inheritance.
Chad: There it is.
Abigail: No, it wasn't a-- a dream that woke me up. It was just, um... oh, it's just this awful morning sickness.
Ben: Oh, I'm sorry. Are you feeling sick right now?
Abigail: Uh, kinda, yeah.
Ben: Well, what can I do for you?
Abigail: I think maybe some animal crackers would help.
Ben: Okay, coming right up.
Abigail: Wait, what? Since when did you start keeping them in there?
Ben: Since I noticed you popping them every five minutes a couple mornings ago. I thought I might as well keep them handy in case you wanted some when you woke up. Like now.
Abigail: That's very thoughtful, thank you.
Ben: Well, I hope they settle your stomach a little.
Abigail: They will. They usually do.
Ben: Great. 'Cause I want you feeling good for your doctor's appointment today. Our doctor's appointment.
Abigail: That's today?
Ben: Yes, and I am pumped to be coming with you. See our little kid on the screen. Might even hear a heartbeat, right?
Abigail: I think it might be a little early for that.
Ben: Oh, well, whatever. I'm gonna be there. And at all of your appointments from now on. I hated missing the first one.
Abigail: Ben, stop it. It's fine, seriously. You had work and school.
Ben: Yeah, well, I decided that from now on...
Abigail: What? What? Are you saying--
Ben: I just decided from now on, I am gonna be there...
Abigail: Ben, I know, it's really sweet you want to be there at all my appointments. It's okay.
Ben: I just...
Ben: Nothing is more important to me than you and our baby. And I'm gonna be there 100%. I love you so much.
Abigail: I love you, too. And nothing is more important to me, either... than you, this baby... our baby.
Steve: Hey. There you are. I'm glad you came, uh... I thought maybe you might stand me up. Oh. Okay. You know, I deserve the silent treatment. But I was hoping that we might come to some kind of an understanding. I don't expect it to be right away. But I'm determined to give it my all, Joe. Because I love you a lot. Yeah... yeah, I know, you have every right to be mad at me for dragging you back here to Salem. And I know... how hard it must have been on you...all those years I was away. But you're older now, and so I'm--I'm hoping that, um... when I get a chance to explain things to you, that... maybe you'll understand.
Joey: Yeah, good luck with that.
Aiden: Wait... you think I'm keeping something from you? Why would you think that?
Hope: You were so sweet and understanding when I told you I wasn't ready to get married yet. But after your... beautiful, heartfelt proposal, I...just--I can't help worrying that I upset you.
Aiden: Hope, no, no, look, look, look, look, I told you, okay, I don't want you to feel pressured...ever. The truth is, I am fine if you have a little...reluctance right now, as long as I know that you do love me.
Hope: I do.
Aiden: Okay, you do.
Hope: I do.
Hope: So much I love you.
Aiden: The thing with me is that I never even dreamed that I could feel about someone the way I feel about you. Okay? Honestly, I've been waiting my whole life to realize that dream, so I'm not about to give up on it. Ever. Hope... I know that we belong together, and that we are good together whether you have a ring on this beautiful finger or not.
Hope: I feel so lucky to have you in my life. Truly I do.
Aiden: Baby, let me tell you something, I am the lucky one. Okay? And, I'm also a very patient man, so I'm willing to wait for you. No matter how long it takes.
Hope: Thank you... for believing in us... for understanding... and for being you. Thank you. Thank you, Aiden.
Aiden: No... thank you. Thank you.
Justin: Why the hell has Chad DiMera not been arrested yet?
Justin: We have an eye- witness who saw him fighting Serena mason inside club TBD, which also happens to be the last time Serena was seen alive. You yourself saw Chad with a bloody lip, which he admitted was caused by that fight. We have a bloody napkin, found at the crime scene, which has his DNA on it.
Rafe: Look, I know all this already--
Justin: And to top it off, he has no alibi. Rafe, no alibi for the time between when he left that club and when he checked into the Salem inn, a window of time which almost exactly matches the window of time that the coroner has set for the victim's time of death.
Rafe: You're right. You are right. But there are still questions.
Justin: And I am sure I can answer them.
Rafe: Oh really? Can you? Can you tell me what Chad's motive was, I mean, aside from the fact that he didn't get to sleep with the victim? I mean, come on, Justin, really? He's gonna risk everything for some ridiculous fight with a woman that he has never met? Not to mention the fact that the necktie--the necktie had no DNA on it, and the crime... was a crime of passion. It was not premeditated. So, we to assume that Chad DiMera just had a pair of gloves with him, you know, in case he felt irritated with his date and wanted to kill her?
Justin: Serena told him no. He went ballistic. That's what DiMeras do...
Rafe: All right, listen--
Justin: When they don't get what they want!
Rafe: Okay, you know what? I'm not a fan of Chad's. All right? But from everything that I have seen and heard about the guy, he is nothing compared to Stefano or EJ or even Kristen for that matter. Okay? The guy is not a psychotic killer who would ice some woman just because she said no, especially in light of the fact that he knows the guilt would point to him. Think about it, all right? Just think about it. Not to mention the fact that you said he's a DiMera. Aren't the DiMeras smarter than that? Huh? What?
Justin: I'm just wondering, during the time you were away, whether you just either forgot how to build a case or you're now bending over backwards to appear impartial.
Justin: But whatever the reason, something is stopping you from seeing this case for what it is... an open and shut case. And, as the new D.A., I want this case closed ASAP.
Chad: No deal. The best thing for Abigail is to stay as far away from this family as she can get. See, why does this land in Ireland even matter to you? You have more money than you could spend in ten lifetimes, let alone whatever time you have left.
Stefano: My reasons are my own. I do not need to explain them to you or anyone else.
Chad: Yeah, because I'm--I'm--I'm really starting to wonder if this is all just part of some twisted power trip of yours. You're trying to change the course of my life and Abigail's because you woke up one morning and decided to play matchmaker over a piece of land? I am not gonna be another pawn in your life, and I'm not going to allow Abigail's to be either.
Stefano: We're getting off point, which is that you are in hot water.
Chad: And you... you disowned me, so I will repeat myself: Why do you care?
Stefano: Why? Why? Because despite all of your efforts to distance yourself from your family, you are a DiMera, damn it!
Chad: Lucky me.
Stefano: And if you want to save yourself, you will answer me honestly. You understand that? So that I can protect you.
Chad: Well, I think I can guess what this question is gonna be.
Stefano: Then answer it, damn it! Did you kill Serena mason?
Rafe: Eric, I know that-- I know this is tough. I'm sorry to put you through it. But...you knew Serena better than anyone in town.
Eric: Well, what do you want me to look for?
Rafe: Anything. Anything that can help us. These are some things from her hotel room. Take your time. What are you thinking?
Eric: Serena and I, we had this running joke between us, and, uh... you see, Serena, she was an awful photographer. She had no sense of light or composition. She just kept on taking pictures.
Rafe: She liked the challenge, huh?
Eric: Yeah, that was her. She never gave up. Guess she--she thought maybe one day that she could accidentally...capture a masterpiece, and, uh... she thought... she hoped that one day... one of her photographs would mean something.
Chad: This is Chad DiMera. I need your help.
Ben: Brought you some saltine crackers, too, in case you couldn't handle this.
Abigail: Ew, what is it?
Ben: Just some plain yogurt. I know an expectant mother needs to increase her protein intake, especially during the first trimester.
Abigail: You did your research.
Ben: Ah, you aren't the only one hitting the pregnancy books.
Abigail: Oh... that is so sweet, thank you.
Andrea: Oh, Abigail, hi.
Abigail: Oh, hi, Andrea!
Andrea: Great to see you.
Abigail: Hi, it's good to see you. Uh, Ben, this is Andrea. She's a midwife who's going to be delivering the baby.
Ben: Oh, great, it's nice to meet you.
Andrea: Nice to meet you, too, Ben, and I assume you're the father?
Ben: Ah, yes. Yes, I am.
Steve: Joe, you know what my work was, right?
Joey: Yeah, saving the world.
Steve: No, I never claimed to be saving the world. I-I'd like to think I was helping people. And I feel like, you know, what I was doing was important. But no matter where I was in the world, I was always thinking about you, Joe. You know, that's why I sent you all those--all those gifts, those little gifts, you know, from Tunisia, Tanzania... I thought if I could send you some little souvenir from wherever I was in the world, that you would know... you were not forgotten by your dad. Not for a second. Joe, can you just talk to me?
Joey: What do you want me to say? That everything's okay now? Trying to make me think we can be really close now?
Steve: No, I--that's not--
Joey: And in case you're wondering, I did get your packages from all over the world, with all the fancy stamps. I just never opened them.
Steve: You never opened--
Joey: Threw them all away. 'Cause I didn't give a damn where you were or where you'd been. All I ever cared about is that you weren't here.
Steve: I'm here now.
Joey: Too little, too late.
Julie: Oh, dear. I am so dismayed about what's happening with Jennifer... I'm having a hard time focusing on this.
Maggie: Yes, it's very hard, with Jennifer having to step down from the Horton center.
Caroline: Well, I feel very sorry for her.
Julie: After everything that girl has been through... how do you think she's doing, Maggie?
Maggie: Well, you know, Jennifer's strong, as we all know. Her main concern is being there for her kids, and she's never failed at that.
Julie: She's a wonderful mother.
Maggie: Yes, she is.
Julie: God knows. Okay. Moving on to happier subjects.
Julie: Ah, I guess everybody at this table knows that, uh, Joey's back in Salem.
Caroline: Brought here by none other than his father.
Maggie: Oh, I bet that was a surprise for you, Kayla.
Kayla: Completely. But I'm happy to have Joey back home.
Hope: And so are we. I am so excited to see him.
Kayla: Well, you will be able to, because he's not going back to boarding school.
Maggie: Oh--oh, well. But then, he'll be going to school in Salem?
Kayla: That's the plan.
Hope: Hey, uh... what about Ciara and I coming by this weekend? We can all hang out, if it's okay.
Kayla: Yes, that'd be perfect.
Maggie: Oh, we have some other good news to cheer about.
Julie: Indeed, indeed we do. Aiden's proposal of marriage to hope. It's wonderful, darling. We are all so happy and excited for you.
Maggie: So, hope, have you come up with a theme for the wedding? Oh, and please don't tell us that you and Aiden want to sneak away and elope.
Julie: Elope? No, you can't do that. We all want to celebrate right along with you, sweetheart. Caroline, forgive me, please. This might not be easy for you and I apologize. You are Bo's mother.
Maggie: Yes, I'm--I'm so sorry, Caroline. That was extremely insensitive of us to bring this up.
Caroline: Well, it-- it's fine, it's fine. I-I-I want hope to be happy, just as you do.
Julie: Well, in that case, I just had an inspiration.
Julie: Hope, what would you say to making your nuptial plans part of the big festivities?
Maggie: Oh, that would be lovely! Oh, you and Aiden could tie the knot at the bicentennial celebration.
Maggie: It's just--your big day!
Hope: All right, you know what, stop. Take a breath. Everybody take a deep breath, okay? Look, I really, um, I am more than appreciative and grateful that you are all so loving and supportive and... rooting for me and Aiden. Team Aiden, Haiden, whatever. But I.. I haven't accepted his proposal yet.
Hope: Actually, I told him I'm not ready to get married.
Justin: You could save us a lot of time and effort and taxpayer money if you confess right now. Everyone knows you killed Serena Mason.
Chad: Everyone? Really?
Justin: Well, maybe there's one or two clueless people who don't even know there was a murder.
Chad: Okay, look, I know our families have a history of animosity, if not outright hatred. But out of deference to your son and my best friend Sonny, I will do my best to remain civil.
Justin: Oh, aren't you a class act.
Chad: I'm innocent, all right? I am innocent, damn it. There's no way that I could hurt someone that way.
Justin: Why not? Because you are DiMera 2.0? The kinder, gentler version? The baby of the family. Rich, good looking, charming. The kind of guy a woman couldn't say no to.
Chad: I don't have to listen to this.
Justin: Until one finally did. And what did you do? You blew up, you lost it. You grabbed your necktie, you wrapped it around her throat, and you squeezed it until she couldn't say no anymore. Isn't that what happened?
Chad: No, that is not how it happened, you smug son of a-- you don't know what you're talking about. All you want is to see a DiMera go down. Well, you are in serious trouble with this one, D.A. Kiriakis, because you've got the wrong guy, do you understand me? Now get the hell out of my face!
Abe: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. What the hell is going on here?
Chad: Abe, you might wanna reconsider appointing this man D.A., Because he is already drunk with power. See, not only does he think he is district attorney, he seems to think he's judge and jury, too.
Caroline: I'm sorry, I have to leave early because we're shorthanded at the--
Hope: Caroline, could I just have a word with you before you go?
Caroline: Of course.
Hope: Okay, let's just--
Kayla: Bye, Mom.
Julie: Bye, Caroline.
Caroline: Thank you for everything.
Hope: Maybe we could talk here for a second. I just wanted you to know that what you said to me the other day about Bo, it's... that's not the reason I haven't accepted Aiden's proposal yet.
Caroline: I see.
Hope: It's just that marriage is A...it's a huge step, and before agreeing to marry Aiden, I need to be 100% sure that he's the right one for me and for Ciara.
Caroline: Yes, of course you do, yes. Well, I-- I have to get to the pub.
Hope: Okay. Um, I'll walk you to your car.
Caroline: No, it's right in front.
Hope: Are you sure?
Hope: All right.
Caroline: Go back, go back.
Hope: I will, I will. I love you.
Caroline: Love you, too.
Hope: Okay, drive safely. Sorry, girls.
Julie: No, no, we're the ones who are sorry.
Maggie: We got so caught up in the excitement of Aiden's proposal to you, before we ever found out how you felt about it.
Kayla: She told me about her ambivalence a few days ago.
Julie: Well, of course you're conflicted about Aiden. And we're just being pollyanna-ish because we're so excited to see you in love again after you've been lonely for so long. But of course, darling, it's your decision, when and where you get married.
Hope: Mm-hmm, I know you two. Yes, it is my decision, but you're all about planning the party. It's all about the party. I'm watching you two, believe me. No, but kidding all aside, seriously, I am so very lucky, because in spite of not being able to commit to getting married right now, I... I've found love again, and it feels great. Aiden's good for me, and he's good for Ciara. He really is. He's become a huge part of our lives.
Julie: Oh, darling!
Kayla: Cheers to that!
Hope: Cheers to being in love again! Finding love again!
Kayla: To that! To love!
Victor: Try 1105. That's my code, too. November fifth, Bo's birthday.
Caroline: [Surprised laugh]
Caroline: [Laughs] Well, I-I remember that that's Bo's birthday.
Chad: So you'll do this? You'll be my lawyer?
Aiden: Yeah. I'll be happy to take your case. Look, I know a thing or two about getting around a prosecutor with a vendetta.
Chad: Good. Okay, um...what do you need from me?
Aiden: Absolute honesty. Okay? The truth and nothing but. I don't care how bad that truth is, you're gonna tell me. 'Cause whatever you say is confidential, all right? I do not judge. Chad, what I want from you is every detail of what happened between you and Serena mason the night she was murdered. Okay?
Chad: Okay. What, like, right now?
Chad: Right. Well, I... look, I met her at the club. I hadn't--I'd never met her until that night, so we introduced ourselves. I-I got us a couple drinks.
Aiden: Okay, how many?
Chad: A few. A-a lot. Plus--plus some shots.
Aiden: All right, and then what was your mood, yours, hers?
Chad: We were both upset. Commiserating about nothing going right for either of us.
Aiden: Okay, just feeling sorry for yourselves.
Chad: Yeah. Okay, but, you know, then we started to relax with each other at some point. You know, it was nice. So I-I kissed her, and she kissed me back. More drinking, and then... yeah, she pulled away. You know, she was--she was hammered. So was I. Things got heated. She slapped me and stormed off. So I followed her.
Aiden: Followed her? Okay, well, what was your intention?
Chad: I wanted to find out what the hell was wrong with her, why she pulled a 180 on me like that.
Aiden: Okay. And then what?
Chad: I don't know where I went, all right? The last thing I remember is standing outside of that club with her. I don't know what happened after that. I-I blacked out.
Aiden: Chad, you just told me you were innocent.
Chad: Yeah, I know.
Aiden: Well, right now, you don't look like you're so sure.
Chad: It's because... I'm not, all right? I-- damn it, I don't--I don't know what happened. I don't know where I went. I don't know where I was. I don't know where I was when Serena mason was killed.
Aiden: Right. I get that. But from this moment on, you are not gonna share that with anyone else ever. Understand?
Aiden: Come here. You need to listen to me, and I want you to listen real hard. All I ever want to hear you say from this point forward is... "I'm innocent."
Abe: You know, I appreciate your zeal. But you can't go running around throwing accusations at people who have yet to even be arrested.
Justin: Okay. I get it. Chad is your brother-in-law.
Abe: That is not what this is about.
Justin: Come on, Abe. You're soft on the DiMeras. Admit it!
Abe: I am fair on the DiMeras. And Chad happens to be a decent guy. You know, I don't--I don't know what happened on the night Serena mason was murdered. But neither do you. And just because he was with her before, having a few drinks, doesn't mean he killed her. For God's sake, Justin, you've got a brain. Don't you think it's a bit inappropriate, not to mention downright unprofessional, to go running around throwing accusations in the guy's face, publically in the middle of Horton square?
Justin: Abe! I'm doing my job, and if Chad DiMera is as guilty as I suspect he is, I am not gonna rest until he's behind bars. He will be the first of the DiMeras I bring down. I will make damn sure of it.
Eric: Who could do this to her? Why would somebody want to kill her?
Rafe: Well, right now Chad DiMera is our only suspect. We believe he's the last person to have seen Serena alive. Unfortunately, the evidence that we have is purely circumstantial, so... we're still looking.
Eric: Oh, my... Xander cook's the only person I can even...come up with. I imagine he's the first person you questioned.
Rafe: Yeah, yeah, we did. But Xander cook happened to be in custody at the time, so... perfect alibi.
Eric: And Chad was the last one who was...seen with her?
Eric: There's no one else?
Eric: Then it had to be Chad.
Maggie: [Sighs] Steve!
Maggie: Hi! How are you?
Steve: It's so good to see you. And you, too, Victor.
Maggie: Well, Kayla told me that you were back.
Steve: Yeah, here I am. Our boy's back in town, too. He came to visit me in new York. I brought him home to Salem.
Victor: Very decent of you.
Steve: Hey, don't be coy with me, man. I know you know all about my return, because I saw your man tailing me earlier.
Victor: Very observant of you. Yes, I do know all about your return. What I don't know...is why the hell you came back.
Steve: Well, I'll be happy to answer that. After that, I have a few questions for you.
Kayla: I'm just sorry those ladies gave you such a hard time.
Hope: Oh, Kay, it's okay. Really. Actually I felt bad for Julie and Maggie. They were so excited for me. They had no idea that I hadn't accepted Aiden's proposal.
Kayla: Well, now they know. And maybe they'll give you some peace on it, you know? And know that you need time to decide.
Hope: Because I do. Especially because it's not just my life it'll be affecting, but also my daughter's.
Kayla: Yeah, I know what you mean. I've been thinking a lot about that since Steve came back. Just how my rift with him has affected Joey.
Hope: I'm sure it's been hard on him. But, Kay, he's gonna be okay. Really. The most important thing is he knows how loved he is.
Kayla: I hope so.
Hope: Oh, my gosh. I totally forgot to tell you this. Steve ran into Aiden yesterday. Kept going on and on about how much he adores Bo. That was his best friend.
Kayla: Oh, for heaven's sakes, you're kidding. He didn't need to do that.
Hope: No, of course he didn't, but you know Steve. He can't exactly control himself. Cat never has his tongue, does it? Steve will always be in Bo's corner. No matter how pig-headed or wrong or ridiculous, they'll always have each other's backs.
Kayla: That's true. I'm sure if Bo was here, he would be advocating for Steve, and he would be on me to try to take Steve back. I...
Hope: Hey. Are you thinking...
Kayla: No. Are you outta your mind? I don't know why you would even ask me that. No, I don't want anything to do with Steve. I am never gonna give him the chance to hurt me like that again.
Aiden: Okay. So I want you to come into my office later today, okay? I want every detail of what you remember that night.
Chad: Yeah, well, I have already told you everything.
Aiden: Yeah. You're gonna tell me again. In case you left something out.
Ben: So Chad's hired a lawyer.
Abigail: So it seems.
Ben: If that's not an indication he's guilty...
Abigail: Let's go, Ben.
Chad: Thank you. Yeah, no, I'll talk to you later.
Chad: What do you want?
Eric: I want to know what the hell you were doing with Serena mason the other night. You killed her, didn't you? Answer me.
Maggie: Okay, I'm gonna go make some tea, um, and give you two a chance to catch up.
Victor: I think I'm going to have a dirty martini before the tea gets here. How about you?
Steve: No, Victor. I don't want a dirty drink or tea. I want some answers. I want to know what the hell happened to Bo.
Hope: Yes? Thank you.
Hope: Wow. "We have all the time in the world, my love." Aiden.
Aiden: Okay, all right. Eric, listen, you don't want to do this, okay? Especially not here.
Eric: What the hell are you thinking? What is the matter with you taking this bastard on as a client? I wish I warned Serena never go near you, you son of a--
Aiden: Okay, listen to me, Eric. All right, I understand you are hurting, but you need to back down before you're the one who needs a lawyer.
Chad: Eric, I didn't kill Serena Mason.
Abigail: I believe him.
