Marlena: Carson, don't do this. Don't do it! Don't, don't, don't, don't!
[Cell phone ringing]
Marlena: Stefano! Don't--don't do it!
Don't you understand?
He's not answering.
Marlena: Let go of me! Let go of me! Let go of me!
Try again. If Stefano answers, we can try to trace the phone. Marlena's life may depend on it.
My father wouldn't hurt her, Abe.
Marlena: Stefano, please! Please! Let go of me! No, no! Oh, no! Stefano, stop this!
Hi. I'm pretty sure I just aced that test. Well, I bet you did. You studied hard enough for it. Yeah, I think this whole school thing is really working out for me. And how is everything else? Even better-- I've got you. And I've got Ben "Weston"? Yeah.
[Chuckles] I have to admit, I was a little surprised to see that. Oh, well, Aiden's all done with the paperwork, so I'm all set to legally change my name back to my father's. You're actually gonna go through with it? Thank you for the tour. I feel like I have enough now to get started on my article. Really? Yes, really. Well, maybe you can describe poplar bluff-- not much to tell-- but you still won't know anything about Clyde Weston, the kind of man he is. Well, I'll interview him when I get back to Salem. And you still won't know what he's like. Son, you can't come down here just to take a picture of the poplar bluff courthouse. You'll need to talk to the people who live here. Get out. Stay out of my sight. Fancy meeting you here. I could say the same thing. You must be early. Xander didn't mention that he had another appointment. Wonder why. - Hey, honey. - Hey. How are you doing? I'm good. I'm great. Yeah? Well, I heard they just finished the bone marrow transplant on the baby. I was headed over there. All right. You have fun. Well, why don't you come with me, hmm? Come with me, see Brady, see the baby. I can't.
Hey. Hey, where's our baby? Is he okay?
Did the operation work?
Yeah, shh, shh. He's right there. He's gonna be in here for a couple hours. My sweet little boy. He's so little, and he's already been through so much. Well, I can promise you, from now on, I'll do whatever it takes to keep him safe.
[Cell phone ringing]
Marlena: Get off of me!
He's not answering, Abe.
Marlena: My God, I-- let go of me! Let go of me!
Marlena: No! Stefano, no!
Hey, I got a warrant to search this place. Well, he's not here. And Chad can't get him to answer his phone. Well, you keep trying. Marlena could die if you don't get through to him-- okay, well, I can't make him answer his phone. I get that. I get that. All right, let's toss his room. Maybe that'll give us some idea of where he took her. (Marlena) you can't do this. Stefano, you know this is wrong. Please, Stefano! Is that how my daughter pleaded, huh? Is that how my Kristen sounded when she begged for her life in this room, by that window?
[Cell phone rings]
[Groans] Look, I am busy, all right? I am dealing with some long overdue personal business. No, I know exactly what you're doing. Stop him! He's going to kill me! Jeez, was--was that Marlena? Look, I was watching television, all right? It's been muted. Okay, this is not funny. Okay, I will not... not let you do this. Hmm.
It's pretty clear that everyone in Poplar Bluff thinks very highly of Mr. Weston. And why do you think that? Well, it's clear. It's obvious he's--he's done a lot of good for this town. Or they're just too damn scared to tell you the truth. I don't know why you're so surprised. I told you I was going to do this. No, you said that were thinking about it, but I mean, I didn't expect you to just--just do it, change it without even talking about it. Is there anything more personal than your name? I mean, I just didn't think there was anything more to say. I was born a Weston, and now I'm taking the name back. Yeah, I guess you're right. Right, it's--it's none of my business. Okay, I didn't quite say that. Look, when I first told you about this, you had no objections. Has something changed?
Stefano: I do not know what you mean.
No, I know you have Marlena. But hey, listen, you--you cannot hurt her.
Stefano: I will do what needs to be done. Do you understand that? This is about family.
Yes, okay, and I'm family, and Kristen was my sister-- my sister who was going to murder four people in cold blood so she could hold on to a baby that she stole from his parents. Okay? His family. So be careful how you-- how you use the word "family" to justify another murder, Father.
Don't let me stop you.
From what? Not that it's any of your business, but I'm getting quotes from family members about what Kristen did to Brady and his little boy. Wait, so you're best friends with Brady, and you're whatever it is you are with Eric, and then you go to Brady's cousin that he hasn't seen since he was a kid? That's very thorough. Oh, or is it that neither Brady nor Eric will talk to you? Oh, gosh, well, I can totally help with that. I'll just give Eric a call right now and let him know how desperate you are. Serena... haven't you gone yet? I thought we were done here. What--what do you mean, you--you can't go? Well, I just-- I've been talking to Brady, obviously, I've been texting him, and it's-- it's clear that his son is his number one priority. And--and he and Theresa were pretty serious about not wanting friends and family hovering around. Theresa-- okay, Melanie, you're not family or a friend. You are the woman who got their child back. Hell, you're the woman who told them they even had a child. I know. I just--Brady has a lot to deal with right now. But that doesn't change the fact that he loves you. And I know he must want you to be a part of this big change in his life. I will. Later. Late-- okay, do you really think this dropping in for, like, a couple minutes is gonna destroy his life? - No. - No. I think it will remind him how great his life is because of you. Okay? I don't want to-- I don't want to do the wrong thing. I know, honey, and I know it's your decision. Okay? Just think about it, okay? Okay. All right. I love you. So the doctors said that there's every indication that the transplant went very well.
[Groans] Thank God. But he is gonna have to stay here for a couple days, and they're gonna have to monitor him. You too. You're not allowed to overdo it, you know. You've been through a lot. I don't care as long as he's okay. Thank you. Seriously, thank you for going through this for our son. Brady, I'm his mom. What else would I do?
[Scoffs] Man, this mom thing is a real game changer. I mean, do you realize that I did something for somebody else? I didn't even get paid for it. You know, maybe--maybe I'm a better person than I thought. - [Laughs] - Hmm. You might just end up surprising a lot of people, including yourself. Brady, I know that you would have done the same thing, but I'm glad that I was the match. I-- I helped someone that I love. And it's not a bad feeling. It's crazy. I mean, we didn't even know he existed, and now there's nothing in the world that we wouldn't do for him. Brady, can I ask you a favor? Sure. Look, if you don't have to go to work, um... just until they let me hold him, would you please stay with me? I won't listen to these lies.
Chad: It's the truth. All of this is Kristen's fault. I mean, good god, she stole a baby before he was even born. Okay, good people were just trying to get their child back, and--and Marlena happened to stumbled upon that, and you'd rather blame her than--than face the truth of what-- of what your daughter really was. Why don't you just save your breath, my son, all right? Because we both know there is nothing you can do to stop me. No, okay. Physically, no. What the hell is that supposed to mean? When you came to tell me that Kristen was dead, you told me that I was the only child you had left. Well, if you go through with this, you will be the only DiMera. Okay, if you hurt Marlena in any way, I will no longer be your son. How dare you turn on our family? I don't want to. Okay, I am just trying to save the only family I have left. And right now, that is you. Father.
I-I was leaving, and then I stopped to chat with your little visitor. We just finished talking about the--the article he wants me to write, and, mm, now that I think about it, he did mention that he had another appointment. - Just not who it was with.
[Cell phone alert beeps]
Oh, and as it turns out, it looks like I have an appointment too. Then don't let us keep you. Don't forget what we discussed. This is a surprise. Sorry. I'll let it go this time. But you really should have called before you came here. I know you don't know me very well, but you need to know that I'm not a man who likes surprises. I thought journalists were supposed to ask questions, dig, not just take things at face value. Is that what you think I'm doing? I'm just wondering if you want to know the truth about Clyde or not. I don't have any objections, Ben. Look, you know, you and I, we're supposedly together, and then you go and do something like this. Supposedly? I didn't--that's not-- I didn't mean it like that. Why don't you tell me what's really going on? Okay, so let's take roll, father. Lexie, dead. EJ, dead. Kristen, dead. And if I do not see Marlena in Salem safe and sound, then I will be as good as dead to you, do you understand me?
I will devote my entire life to insure that the DiMera name has no honor and no dignity, because what you are about to do is cruel and heinous, and I will make sure the entire world knows about it.
You don't mean that. You are a DiMera. You cannot change that. I loved Kristen, and I despised what she did. She was insane. No!
Chad: You are not. I will hold you responsible for what you do. And you, and only you, will be responsible for the end of the DiMera family.
[Sighs] Of course, I'll stay. Thank you. I'm gonna go out to the nurses' station and check into what we were talking about before and also find out when we can hold our son again. Hey, Daniel. Hey. Well, it seems that the procedure went very well. I've texted that baby's very extended family stating that he's in good shape, implying that they should all stay far, far away. Thank you. Yeah, I think everyone realizes that you need a little time alone to bond with him. Yes, I do. You know, you and I, we haven't really had a chance to talk privately since I've been back, but I know that last night was a little awkward. I just--I couldn't leave Theresa on her own. No, no, no, no. Of course not. I think everyone understands that too. You think everybody-- even Melanie? Well, I don't want to speak for her-- it's really good to see you. It's good to see you too.
Now, I got a little work to catch up on, and for some reason, I've been a little distracted the last couple of days, so... okay. I've missed you. I missed you too. Oh, I got something for the baby. You did not. And then I promise, I'll leave. Hold--no. First of all, don't promise that, because I want you here. I want you here, and that text that everybody got about giving us space or whatever was not-- nothing to do with you. Listen, it's fine. You need some time alone. What I need is time with you. I want to be around you, okay? Now, why don't you come with me and we can go see my son? He just got out of the procedure, though. Doctors say that he's fine. And I'm not taking no for an answer, okay? Okay. Come on. Look who's here. Melanie. Thanks so much for coming. I'm so happy to see you. Okay.
[Knock on door]
Come in. Hey, I got your text. Have a minute?
Yeah, I-I do. Sure. You said you wanted to see me. I assume it's about Melanie. This is a really tough situation for her. How can I help? Oh, I'm sure she'll be glad to see you, but this is not about her. Eric? Nope. No, this is about Xander. Okay, note to self: Xander doesn't like people just dropping by. And I understand that you want to keep our friendship quiet. And, believe me, I don't want herself broadcasting all over Salem my business either. You don't need to worry about Serena. We came to an understanding long ago. We respect each other's need for discretion. Really? When you came in, did you not hear what she was saying? She not so subtly threatened to tell Eric that I was here. Well, she won't, trust me. Okay, I guess. I don't understand your relationship with her. Do you really need to? I mean, I would hope that you'd be more interested in where our relationship is going. If it is going. That's right. We got interrupted last time. And a lot has happened since then. I should tell you I was at uncle Vic's yesterday. I saw all the fireworks between you and Daniel.
[Sighs] I'm so sorry that you had to see that. But since you did, I don't have to tell you that it's pretty much over. Yeah, I'm not so sure that's true. As a matter of fact, that little display led me to the conclusion that you and I, we really don't have very much to say to each other. Other than good-bye. Why does it seem like you're trying to pick a fight over this? It's no big deal. What are you--it is a big deal. It's your name. That's a big deal. Are you embarrassed to be with someone named Weston? What? I mean, come on, it's not like I'm changing my name to DiMera. Look, you're overreacting, all right? Marlena is probably, I don't know, taking a well-deserved vacation. I imagine that her family will be hearing from her very, very soon. Well, if that's the case, then I look forward to hearing from you soon, father. I might conk out, but before I do, there's something that we want you to know before anyone else. I don't understand. Well... it's kind of a big deal. Brady and I talked, and we want you to hear this directly from us.
Well, you were so friendly with Xander earlier. You--you've known each other a long time. That's right. And you said you were friends. You acted like you were friends. But then Eric just told me that you weren't really friends at all. You didn't like him at all. You see my confusion? As a friend, I think it would be best if you left. Okay, fine. Maybe I still do have feelings for Daniel. But every time I try to make it work with him, the clearer it gets that it's not gonna work at all. Oh, I love my life. You know, not only are things going to hell with Daniel, but your insight and your analysis of my relationship with him seems to have sucked all the air out of any fun that we might have had. Oh, fun. I dimly remember fun. Mm. Maybe I saw it in a movie once. Is that what you want? Fun? No. I want to have long talks about our feelings. I remember telling Daniel when I first met you that you asked me questions and you seemed to actually have listened to the answers. I thought you were interested in me. I thought you were a nice guy, but now I'm not so sure. Just hold on a second, okay? For what? It's time I stopped hanging out with impossible men. Nicole, if it really is over with Daniel and if you are willing to keep this just between the two of us, actually, fun sounds like fun. How about I order up some champagne? I promise we won't say a word about our feelings, and maybe we can pick up where we left off. Isn't it a little early in the day to start drinking? Let's do it.
[Chuckles] Give me room service. Say please, Xander. Yes, hello. I'd like to order your most expensive bottle of champagne. Please.
Tell her, Theresa.
Theresa: Well... we finally decided on a name for the baby. And if he had have been a girl, we definitely would have gone with Melanie.
Yeah, I even looked it up in the baby book. It means "dark" or "black." But you're so obviously bright. Yeah, we--we love the name Melanie, but obviously we can't saddle a boy with it so... and then we thought about Melvin, but that's not really the same thing as Melanie. And also, after Kristen named him Christopher after herself, Brady thought that-- I thought that he should just have his own name. Not one that comes from family or anything, just--just his and his alone. Yeah, and so we went with Tate. Tate. Tate. Yeah. Yeah. It means "cheerful" and "happiness." And we are, because you brought him to us. And he is just that. He is cheer and such great happiness. And we named him that in honor of you. I don't know what to say. Well, just say hello to baby Tate. What are you saying? Well, you might have to change your language for your magazine, but the truth is, Clyde Weston was one son of a bitch. He put his kids through hell after their mama died and put her through hell before she died. He was a real mean drunk, and he liked to drink, a lot. And a lot of people paid for it because he did. You want to be a real writer? Then just don't run away from it. Tell people who he really is.
[Sighs] I can't. I just can't.
[Clears throat] I'm sorry, that came out wrong. Ben, is this how it's gonna be? Are you gonna take a cheap shot at me about what happened with EJ every single time you and I have an argument?
[Sighs] I'm sorry. Look, I just don't know where all this is coming from. Why are you getting upset? You know, I think maybe we should just-- we should just talk later before we say something that we both regret. Fine, Abigail. Whatever you say. Any luck getting through to your father? I hope so. I'm not sure. I have a meeting. You know your way out.
[Exhales sharply] I have to get out of this damn house. Let her go.
Yeah, I was booked to fly out tomorrow morning, but I've finished up my business here. Is there any chance I can get out on the last flight tonight?
Abigail: Right, I'll just-- I'll be home soon. I'm just gonna take a walk and figure some stuff out. Love you, bye. Roman, it's me.
Where are you? Are you all right?
Yes. I'll be home soon.
What happened? Was it Stefano?
We can take off now. So listen, I-I--obviously, I got to stay here right now, but I would love to see you tonight. I want to spend some time with you, preferably outside of this hospital. I have a couple things I want to-- I want to talk to you about. But I swear, promise, it's all good. It's really good. - Okay. - Okay?
[Chuckles] I think there's been a little misunderstanding.
[Clears throat] It's not that I-- it's not that I don't like Xander. It's just that Eric liked him better than I did. You know Eric. He likes everybody. Yeah, no, I-I know Eric, yeah. And I'll cop to the fact that I'm not as nice as him. Right, well, few are. So, well, glad that's cleared up. I mean, is it? I was just thinking the other day, when you were at my place, just looking back at it, I realize you weren't very comfortable with-- with Xander being there. Like you maybe had an issue with him. I don't think I understand what you're getting at. Basically, if you do have an issue with him, I would like to know what it is, 'cause I really don't know him that well. I admit that. But when we were kids, he just seemed to have-- I don't know, he had some-- some problems. That was a long time ago. Yeah, yeah, I know. But he certainly seems to have gotten it together now. He's just-- he's so, uh, polite.
[Laughs] That's a good thing, right? Oh, yeah, yeah. I'm just thinking maybe you don't really see him that way. What I don't get is why you're asking me about him. Hey, I'm just trying to understand. Well, I don't want to talk about it, all right? You know, I don't think there's one line in poetry more beautiful than "send up your most expensive bottle of champagne." You don't want me to compare you to a summer's day? Maybe later, when you order a second bottle of champagne.
[Clears throat] I have to admit, I-I like your definition of fun. Could you just please reassure me one more time that Serena will keep her mouth shut about us? Oh, I'll make sure of it. Good. And I'll make sure this stays on the Q.T. We have to be discreet about how we get in touch. I mean, you can't just have a picture of me on your phone. Well, at least not yet.
[Laughs] Right. I have an idea. How about I take a picture of you on your phone, and you put my number with it? And every time you see it, you'll think of this moment and that I'm calling to make another moment.
[Chuckles] Sounds like a plan. Great.
[Sighs] Okay, give me the camera. Give me the camera.
[Laughs] All right, sir, hold on a second. Make love to the camera.
[Laughs] Wow. Wait a minute. That's not good. Smile, smile. Oh, your eyes were shut in that one. Try again, one more, come on. Give me something good. Oh, that's great. Really, you gotta see this one. Oh, gosh! Ow! Ow! I'm so-- - are you okay? - Yes. I just could really use some... - ice. - Yeah. You sit here, relax. I'll go get you some, okay? - Okay. Thanks. - Okay.
[Gasps] Hello, Marlena. You're doing the right thing, Stefano.
Stefano: No, no. The right thing would be to leave your twisted, broken body at the bottom of that cliff for the coyotes.
Exactly what did Chad say to you?
That's none of your concern, huh? But I hope you know something. You owe your life to my son. I can see that you're upset. You know what? I'm, uh... I'm sick of being upset. You were right when you left the other night. If you were smart, you would stay as far away from me as possible. Because the truth is, is you deserve so much better than me. It feels good being in your arms again. Mm.
[Laughs] Thank you for letting me see your son. He's beautiful. Thank you. And thank you for being here. And I will look forward to tonight. Here's my ride.
[Sighs] Don't you worry, Daddy will be right back. And you and I are never going to be separated from him ever again once we leave this hospital.
[Chuckles] Not for one single night.
[Sighs] I'm sorry, that came out a little too forcefully. It's just that I don't like offering my opinions on other people. But you're not offering. I was asking for it. And I just--I just want to know him better, and it's very clear you don't want to talk about him. Daniel, I need to get going. What is it you're not saying? You want to know about Xander? Why don't you talk to Nicole? 'Cause she's the one who's with him right now. Take your time getting that ice, Xander. I don't even know what I'm looking for. Oh, my God.
