(This still needs extensive editing)

Hope: Well, my best guess is that he's gone underground in Chicago. He's laying low, hoping you're gonna lose interest.

Rafe: Yeah, you're probably right.

Hope: Yeah. Hey, and thanks for agreeing to discuss an old case of yours. I know it can't be easy for you.

Rafe: Anything for you. You know that.

Hope: I do. I do. Besides, it's nice to think like a cop again. I hate not working with you. It's just so unfair. You know, let's just change the subject. Tell me about Gabi. How is she doing?

Rafe: Well, she's worried about Will and Sonny right now. She told me they brought Arianna by to see her the other day and acted like everything was just fine. But she knows those guys. She knows that's just not true.

[Knocking]

Sonny: Dad.

Justin: [Laughs] Sonny. Good to see you.

Sonny: What a surprise. I was waiting on your phone call.

Justin: Well, I was already on my way home when I got your message, so...

Sonny: Well, I'm glad you're here.

Justin: Yeah, me too. We got a lot to talk about. I've been worried about you, Sonny.

Sonny: Did you just get in?

Justin: Dropped off my things at Victor's and came right over here. Have you seen Mom?

Sonny: No. No. She wasn't there.

Justin: I was wondering if you might know where she is.

Adrienne: A little surprised you asked me to meet you here.

Lucas: Yeah. Yeah. I got to get a place of my own. I was living in my mom's condo, which was great until she got bounced from the DiMera house and stabbed me in the back. You remember that, right?

Adrienne: Yeah, slightly. I can understand the move though.

Lucas: Yeah. Yeah, this is just temporary, but I thought we needed a place to talk, you know, without being interrupted.

Adrienne: Yeah. Right.

Will: Thanks for seeing me.

Aiden: Sure.

Will: I want to apologize for the scene that that reporter made about Paul and me the day of the fund-raiser.

Aiden: Well, at least all the kids were gone and it didn't affect the donations, so...

Will: That's what John said.

Aiden: Right. But you didn't need to come here and apologize.

Will: That's not the only reason I'm here. I need to talk to you about something-- someone, actually.

Aiden: Okay. Who's that?

Will: Clyde Weston.

Clyde: Stefano DiMera bought Sonix magazine?

Kate: Right.

Clyde: And you think he's behind your grandson writing that article about me?

Kate: I do.

Clyde: Why do you think that old sob would come after me?

Kate: Don't flatter yourself. He's putting the spotlight on you to get back at me.

Nicole: No, Daniel. We can't start over.

Daniel: What? Why not?

Nicole: What-- because I said no, as in hell no.

Daniel: Okay. What is with the about-face?

Nicole: Well, I've been doing some thinking, and I've decided that how you want things to be between us just isn't-- it doesn't work for me. I deserve better than that.

[Dramatic music]

Hope: I don't know a whole lot about Will and Sonny, but Marlena said that Will is working really hard to make things right.

Rafe: Well, I hope so. I really do, because if that marriage breaks up, Gabi does not want Arianna to get caught in the fallout.

Hope: I understand that. Maybe she should talk to an attorney.

Rafe: That's a good idea. She doesn't have one right now. EJ used to be her attorney.

Hope: I remember.

Rafe: And I got to say, as much as I couldn't stand the guy, he was a pretty damn good attorney.

Hope: Yeah. He was.

Rafe: He was there for her and fought for her. I feel like that's what she needs right now is someone to fight for her.

Hope: I think I know just the guy.

Aiden: Clyde Weston is a client.

Will: I know. That's why I'm here. I'm writing an article about him for Sonix magazine.

Aiden: Oh. Ever hear of attorney-client privilege?

Will: Yes. I have, and as per my understanding, the privilege can be waived if the confidential communications have been disclosed to a third party.

Aiden: [Chuckles] Did your homework, huh?

Will: That is my job.

Aiden: Yeah.

Will: And I heard that you'd make a good source.

Aiden: And who told you that, your Aunt Hope?

Kate: DiMera Enterprises acquires Sonix magazine, and the first thing that happens is that my grandson is assigned an article to write about the man I'm seeing.

Clyde: Well... I don't think that's a coincidence. I think that's Stefano DiMera trying to get even. He may be doing that by coming after me, but I'm guessing he's got another motive altogether.

Kate: What's that?

Clyde: He's still not over losing you.

Daniel: I don't know where this is coming from.

Nicole: Oh, well, welcome to my world because I don't know where half the things you do are coming from.

Daniel: Okay, I know I kind of bit your head off last night...

Nicole: Kind of?

Daniel: But I was worried about-- Melanie.

Nicole: Yeah, I know. And automatically, her problems are my fault. And when I tried to explain things to you, you wouldn't even listen to me.

Daniel: You're right, and I'm wrong. And I'd like to make it up to you.

Nicole: I will hear everything you have to say. You can call me any name in the book. All right? It's a pretty good deal, right?

Sonny: I don't know where Mom is. Why don't you just give her a call?

Justin: She, uh, doesn't know I decided to come back.

Sonny: Well, why did you? What made you decide to drop all that important business you were doing and come back to Salem?

Justin: I didn't come straight here. I actually made a stop along the way in San Francisco.

Sonny: To take in a Giants game.

Justin: No. I went to see Paul.

Lucas: I was just thinking it's been a while since you and I talked, you know, since you and my mom, uh... duked it out.

Adrienne: Yeah.

Lucas: But, you know, it really wasn't that bad.

Adrienne: Well, I'm sure it's not the first time you caught your mother in a hair-pulling act. I'm sure she went a few rounds with Sami and Chloe and Nicole.

Lucas: Yeah. Yeah, she did.

Adrienne: And I'm sure she told them the same things that she told me, that they were gonna break your heart.

Lucas: I guess she thinks my heart's easily broken.

Adrienne: Or maybe she doesn't like the idea of another woman taking her place. I... I thought I told her that things weren't that serious between us. At least I thought I did.

Yeah. Yeah, that's what I keep telling myself too. The problem is, um, I find it hard to believe.

Will: My Aunt Hope doesn't even know that I'm writing the article. Should I talk to her about Clyde Weston?

Aiden: No. I thought maybe she suggested you speak to me.

Will: Well, she didn't. Now, about that donation that Mr. Weston made to the university hospital charity fund, that was supposed to be anonymous, right?

Aiden: [Chuckles] Am I not getting through to you?

Will: Why wouldn't you want to talk about the donation? My cousin, Abigail, works at the hospital. She's in charge of that project. She said it's gonna help a lot of people, and Mr. Weston is basically underwriting it.

Aiden: So quote her.

Will: I don't want to make any wrong assumptions here.

Aiden: Mm-hmm.

Will: But based on how everyone is acting--you, Mr. Weston-- it really seems like this guy's got something he's hiding.

Aiden: Get out of my office. Now.

[Suspenseful music]

Rafe: I like Aiden. I like him a lot. You know, he twisted the mayor's arm, kept me out of prison, right?

Hope: Yeah.

Rafe: Yeah. You really think he'd be interested in taking on Gabi as a client?

Hope: Well, I know that he called and offered to represent her after she got arrested. Well... on second thought, scratch that idea. Forget I even suggested it.

Rafe: W-wait. What? So you don't think that he would do it?

Hope: No, no, no, I think he might, but you go ahead, you ask him, and just leave my name out of it, okay?

Rafe: Is there a problem?

Hope: No, there's no problem. Okay, Aiden and I are on opposite sides of a couple cases right now.

Rafe: Oh.

Hope: It's still taking some getting used to, that's for sure. But, you know, I just think, to avoid future conflict, I should steer clear of recommending him right now.

Rafe: It's about Clyde Weston, isn't it?

Clyde: I can understand why Stefano would be bitter about losing a woman like you.

Kate: That's very sweet, but mainly, I think it was the fact that his pride was hurt and he was still angry. So he bought the magazine, had Will assigned to the article, and he told him to go after you. I could shoot him.

Clyde: How do you really feel about Stefano?

Kate: I think that's pretty obvious, isn't it?

Clyde: Well, it's obvious that he's not over you. But I'm just wondering if perhaps you might feel the same way about him.

Daniel: Look, I want to-- I want to fix this, but you don't seem to want to stop being mad.

Nicole: Could you just do me a favor? Get out of my face.

Daniel: You got it.

[Dramatic music]

[Ominous music]

Hope: Promise me that if you do speak to Aiden, you won't say anything about this conversation.

Rafe: No. Are you really saying this right now?

Hope: I am.

Rafe: You know that I would never say a damn thing.

Hope: Well, I just have to put it out there. Okay?

Rafe: Okay. Okay.

Hope: Hypothetically...

Rafe: Mm-hmm.

Hope: If I were to ask you if you're investigating Clyde Weston...

Rafe: Hypothetically?

Hope: Yeah.

Rafe: I might have to say yes.

Hope: And hypothetically, do you happen to know anything about him?

Rafe: Well, I know what I think.

Hope: Which is?

Rafe: I think that his "good ol' boy" act is just that. I think he's a real mean guy.

Hope: But you can't base your investigation on that now, can you?

Rafe: No. I can't.

Hope: What about Victor? You're working for him. Has he said anything?

Rafe: All I know is, for some reason, Victor didn't try and stop Clyde from pretty much pushing him out of the trucking business.

Hope: Yeah, I know. We discussed that last time.

Rafe: Yeah.

Hope: Do you think Victor's scared?

Rafe: [Scoffs] Scared? No. It's more like he's wary, which, if Aiden is representing Clyde, you might want to be also.

Hope: Are you saying I should back off?

Rafe: Well, like you would ever do that.

Hope: Never.

Rafe: But I am telling you to be careful.

[Suspenseful music]

Justin: Calm down, all right? Let me just tell you why I did it.

Sonny: I don't understand why the members of this family won't let me handle this my way.

Justin: Because we feel that Will has been manipulating the situation ever since he started interviewing Paul, and now that we know what you two meant to each other...

Sonny: Yeah, but, Dad, that was in the past.

Justin: Is it?

Sonny: Yes. I am married to Will.

Justin: And yet Will isn't playing as fair as you are, Sonny.

Sonny: How do you know that?

Justin: First of all, he tried to keep John from knowing that he's Paul's father just so he could keep Paul away from you.

Sonny: How do you know what Will said to john? Dad, did you talk to John?

Justin: Don't worry, I promised John that I wouldn't tell anyone that Paul is his son.

Sonny: Well, then, what did you tell Paul when you talked to him?

Justin: That he should come back to Salem.

Adrienne: I thought we were gonna take things as they come.

Lucas: Right. Listen. I'm not trying to pressure you at all. I'm really not. But if Justin already knows about us, what's gonna happen when he comes back?

Adrienne: We don't know Justin's coming back.

Lucas: Justin's coming back, trust me. Trust me, he'll come back with some sob story as to why he had this affair with the girl in Dubai.

Adrienne: You're thinking about what your mother said yesterday, aren't you? That I always go crawling back.

Lucas: Listen, Adrienne, I'm not judging you. I'm not. You're married. I understand it. I was married to Sami. I know what it's like when you spend a lot of time with somebody. It's hard to move on. It's hard to move on, especially when there's kids involved.

Adrienne: But you finally did it.

Lucas: Well, she was the one who instigated that she had a choice to make, and I guess I didn't make the cut, but we're friends. You know, we're still friends, and that's worth a lot.

Adrienne: Is that what you're saying to me? That you'd rather be friends and end what we have now?

Lucas: Yes. Yeah, maybe I am.

Daniel: [Groans] Damn it! Damn it to hell!

Maggie: Daniel, what happened?

Nicole: [Sighs] Okay. You let Xander think that you're available. That's good. Oh. But you did it by unloading on the man that you love. You just may be available, honey bun.

Serena: I will not let you destroy my life, Xander. I swear to God I will take you down with me, and I will.

Nicole: But those two are up to something-- and something bad. Oh. That witch Serena, she's playing Eric and Melanie and even Daniel. The only way I'm gonna find out what she's doing is to get closer to Xander. What if-- what if he didn't buy my argument with Daniel? What if I screwed up things with Daniel for nothing? What am I gonna do? Damage control.

[Knocking]

Xander: Excuse me. Am I interrupting something?

Nicole: No. Not at all.

Will: Hey, Gabriel, I wanted to thank you for sending over all that material on Paul Narita. The trouble is that none of it had any bite. Yeah, they're either saying that the guy's a traitor to professional sports or else the guy comes off like a martyred saint, so I was wondering if-- yeah, I know that I'm supposed to be working on the Clyde Weston profile, and you can tell Zoe that that's what I'm doing. Yeah, I'll let you know when I'm ready to go to Poplar Bluff.

Rafe: And why would you be going to Poplar Bluff?

[Dramatic music]

Kate: I tried very hard to be a good wife to Stefano, and he turned his back on me. I have nothing but contempt for him, nothing. So you have nothing to be concerned about.

Clyde: Not even from the magazine article?

Kate: No. If he truly felt threatened by you, he'd probably put a microchip in your brain or something like that.

Clyde: So you really think that this whole thing is just about Stefano trying to irritate you?

Kate: I do.

Clyde: Well, then... [Clears throat] Maybe there's a way that you and I can turn this thing around on the old bastard.

Sonny: I can't believe this, Dad. Like, why would you tell him to come back to Salem?

Justin: Actually, I told him that it was his decision.

Sonny: What about my decision?

Justin: Sonny, you deserve the right to make a clear choice here.

Sonny: I did make a clear choice. I chose Will.

Justin: Even though he cheated on you and lied about it?

Sonny: Don't you feel like a hypocrite saying that?

Justin: This isn't about me. All right? I'm trying to look out for you, Sonny.

Sonny: Okay, well, let me ask you a question. How is what Will did to me any different from what you did to Mom or what Mom did to you?

So it's true?

[Scoffs] You thought about what Kate said and decided she's right. Well, if it's gonna end anyway, I'd just as soon it happened before I have a chance to fall any deeper. I see. Well, okay, then, if that's what you want, we'll just... wait a minute. Wait, I've been doing all the talking. You haven't told me what you want. I'll be honest with you, Lucas. When you texted me and told me you wanted to meet me in a hotel room, I realized I had two choices. I could either insist that we meet in a public place, or I could meet you in your hotel room knowing exactly what was going to happen. But it never occurred to me that you were gonna try to dump me. Don't you know that's not what I want? Lucas, I know you want to do the right thing, but you don't invite a woman to your hotel room to end a relationship with her. Listen to me. I don't want it to end. I mean, I'm willing to end it if it's best for both of us, but-- you still haven't told me what you want.

[Dramatic music]

[Sighs] No, nothing's wrong, just cursing myself for being a klutz. I set the box here and knocked this over and just-- pfft. Well, do you have a broom and dustpan?

[Sighs] Yes, I do.

Oh.

I got it. Well, I came by because I have some wonderful news. Oh, good. I could use it. Here. Well, Victor--he got somebody at the state department to talk to him about Brady and Melanie. Yeah? Well, what did he-- what did he find out? They were cleared to leave Italy several hours ago. Oh, man, that is great! That is great. And he also found out that they have entered U.S. Airspace, and they'll be home soon.

[Sighs] So this ordeal is over. That is the best thing you could've told me because nothing else-- nothing else really, really matters. Is there something else on your mind? No. No. Nothing big. Did I miss any glass? No. No. This is about it. Okay. Do you want to talk about this... not big thing? Well, it's-- yeah, it's Nicole.

[Maggie laughs]

Okay. Why is that no surprise? No, this is something I did this time. Okay. Well, I'll be the judge of that, okay? Well, last night, you know, we were together when Melanie called to tell me what was going on. Then Nicole and I were talking afterwards, and it turns out that she helped Melanie get some information and did not tell me. What kind of information? Well, the kind that made Melanie and Brady take a trip to Italy. So this is something that you did? I just-- I overreacted. How? Nicole didn't mean to keep this from me, and she also had no way of knowing the information would be so important to Melanie and Brady. Okay. I tried to clear the air today, and she was not about to let it go, so she just let me-- just let me have it. Okay. I'll admit, I'm gonna be on your side. Okay? If Nicole can't accept what you said in a moment like that, maybe she's not the woman for you.

[Door closes]

No, you're not interrupting at all. You were talking to yourself. You heard? I couldn't hear what you were saying, but I'm pretty sure I know what it was about. I saw that argument you had with Daniel. Are you two having problems? Oh, I don't want to bore you with that. So what's up with you? What brings you here? Don't pretend like nothing's wrong. That was a full-on argument, and he walked out. But the reason I'm here is, I think you're a nice lady, and I wanted to make sure you're okay. Oh, well, that is so sweet. Is there anything I can do? Distract me. How? I don't know. We can go get a coffee or a drink, preferably the latter, hang out, talk.

Sounds good.

Good. Let's go. But I don't think I'd better.

[Dramatic music]

[Lucas sighs]

That was the best way anyone has ever called me an idiot.

[Laughs] I wasn't calling you an idiot. I just didn't think you'd have me up here to break up with me. Yeah, about that, it really seemed like a good idea at the time.

[Laughs] Well, I think my coming up here was the best idea, no matter what happens. And I promise you, I don't have any regrets, and I hope you don't either. Mm-mm.

[Romantic music]

I am not a perfect man, but I'm your father, and all I want-- all I want is for you to be happy. And, Sonny, it is hard to be happy if you're not with the right partner. And I thought Paul seemed like a great guy. Paul is a great guy, but I'm with will. Look me in the eye and tell me that you don't still have feelings for Paul and convince me that you aren't just working so hard to make this marriage work with will because you think that's what you're supposed to do. All marriages have rough patches. I learned that watching you and mom. Touché. But, Sonny, you are a young man with a long life ahead of you, so all I'm asking is for you to be honest with yourself, honest with how you feel and what's in your heart and then act on that because I don't want you to live with any regrets in your life. I don't want that either. Good. Think about what I said. All right? We'll talk later. I'm going to poplar bluff for an article that I'm writing. About Clyde Weston? That's the assignment that I was given. I'm not crazy about writing it, and Clyde Weston's not crazy about having it written. Can you get out of it? Not without ticking off my editor. She'll just send someone else to write it anyway. Well, that may be the better option. What are you saying? And why do you care whether or not I write this thing? Because, will, you're the father of my niece, which makes you family. You didn't answer my question. Can you ever just not ask questions? Will, I'm telling you, just stay the hell away from Clyde Weston, all right? - Why? - I mean it. Weston wants you to believe that he's just some regular old redneck. He's not. The guy's scary. So you're saying that there is something to find here-- will. Don't. Don't do it, okay? Think about your daughter. Stay the hell away from Clyde. I'm telling you. He's bad news.

[Ominous music]

What exactly do you have in mind for Stefano? Well, I know how close you and will are. Let me just say, I'm gonna use all my influence to make sure that he presents you in a very positive light. And of course you won't let on to will that I asked you to do that. No, of course I know better than that. There's no way I want Stefano to think that I'm doing anything to make will cross him for any reason. You think he'd take it out on will?

[Sighs] I don't know. I hope not. Oh, okay. I need to go. I have a meeting at mad world. You give them hell at that meeting, girl. You know I will.

[Sighs]

[Scoffs] Mr. Stefano DiMera, you better be worried about crossing me. I put Victor Kiriakis in his place, and I can do the same to you. What do you got in your pocket?

[Gobbling] Mmm.

Justin: So all I'm asking is for you to be honest with yourself, honest with how you feel and what's in your heart and then act on that, because I don't want you to live with any regrets in your life.

[Sighs] I love you, Sonny. I always will.

Sonny: I love you so much, and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you and Arianna.

I adore you, but most of all, Sonny, I love you.

[Babbles]

[Door opens]

[Giggles]

How was your day? Oh, sorry. Time-out. Bad question. It's okay. I think we can talk about it. You know, I've been thinking, and I've been thinking that... under the circumstances, we should make a pact not to talk about our work lives. Sounds like a plan. And it will give us more time to have fun, be with the kids...

[Mumbles]

[Both laugh]

All right. Great. Well, you know, I am looking forward to seeing your dad and Julie later. I know, I know, they're excited to see you too, spend time with you. Mm-hmm. Let's go get the kids. Come on. Okay, let's go get those kids, but there is something I need to do first. Client call? Oh, did you want me to leave? Wait in the car, earplugs, next... no, I think you're gonna need to stick around for this one.

[Romantic music]

I think we should take this thing public, go have a nice dinner, just the two of us. I think that's a great idea. Okay. I see. I'm actually not too far from there. Thanks. The reporter's name is will Horton. The magazine is called Sonix. It's with an X. You can find his picture on their website. Because he's coming down there to poplar bluff to find out about me, and I want you to roll out the welcome wagon. Ah. Sorry I'm late. I know you wanted to get to the bank before it closed. No worries. I can still make it. Are you okay? Yeah, sure. Because you seem a little on edge. What? It's no big deal. It can wait. Sonny, what I have to say can't wait. Okay. You and Arianna mean everything to me. I think I need to focus a lot less on my work and a lot more on you two. I'm gonna tell Zoe that I can't-- I can't take the Clyde Weston assignment. Not looking forward to going to poplar bluff? There's more to it than that, Sonny. Are you sure about this? Positive.

[Chuckles] Give me a kiss.

[Arianna babbles]

[Dramatic music]

Rafe: Think about your daughter. Stay the hell away from Clyde. I'm telling you, he's bad news. You know I would love to take you out for a drink, but Daniel's like family to me. I probably shouldn't have even come here. I understand. I hope you're gonna be okay. Oh, I'll be fine.

[Soft music]

[Sighs] So I said all those things to Daniel for nothing. What have I done? I've known Nicole a whole lot longer than you, and every relationship she's gotten into has imploded. Yeah. I know all about her past. And I've had my concerns too, which is why I've thrown up so many roadblocks. Just--I wasn't sure Nicole was able to fully commit to me, that her heart was in the right place, but--but now, Mom, I believe it is. Oh, honey. Oh, if Nicole won't give you the time of day... okay, mom, she is the woman for me. She is the one.

What about Nicole? She told you to take a hike? Mm-hmm. Look, she was just venting. I'm gonna give her a little space, everything will work out, and we will be-- we will be just fine. Well, I hope you're right. Mom, I know I am. "I'm sorry I was such a bitch to you today. I don't know what came over me."

[Laughs] Well, that is such a lie. You'd be having martinis and pumping Xander right now for information if he wasn't so honorable about his friendship with Daniel.

[Sighs] Daniel was so sweet, trying to make things right. You know what? I'm just gonna send this text. To hell with Xander.

[Phone ringing]

Oh. Xander? I've been thinking. About what?

Xander: You. You said you're okay, but I'm guessing you're not, right? Right.

[Chuckles] But that's really not your problem. The thing is, we could get together later, but it would have to be private and stay just between us. Well, that sounds great. I have a conference call soon, but I'll be in touch. I mean, if you'd like me to. I would. Thanks.

[Phone ringing]

The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout down came the rain and washed the spider out up comes the sun and dried up all the rain and the itsy bitsy spider came up the spout again your uncle Rafe is right. Clyde Weston doesn't matter. You and Sonny matter. Zoe's just gonna have to accept that.

[Knocking]

Come on.

[Suspenseful music]

Mr. Weston. You and I need to talk, son. I do have a question though. If you don't have a job, how are you gonna pay for dinner? Shows how much you know. You have a job? I have a job offer in Dallas. What? But I turned it down. I'm not leaving Salem, not now. I do have a meeting for another job possibility, and it's local. Really? Yeah. Is it good? Will your mother be green with envy? She might. She might. I don't want to jinx it though. I don't want to talk about it too much. Okay.

Hungry?

Starving. Let's go. Get your stuff. Getting it. Oh, hey. Kiss for luck first.

Mmm.

Mmm.

[Both laugh]
