(This still needs extensive editing)

Chad: I am pouring hundred-year-old scotch as we speak.

Stefano: I am ahead of you, my son. [Laughs] I have already poured my brandy.

Chad: A toast. To perfect timing.

Stefano: Mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm. You know, it could not have worked more perfectly even if you had planned it.

Chad: You should've seen the look on Abigail's face when she realized she'd just eaten all of my date's dinner. [Laughs]

Stefano: [Laughs] I would have loved to see that.

Aiden: Seems the Florida Bureau of Investigation developed a sudden interest in Ben, because you left town the same day as they made a major bust.

Abigail: That sounds like it was a coincidence.

Aiden: Yeah, well they busted a lot of regulars at a place that you were working.

Abigail: Again. Coincidence.

Aiden: Yeah, no, I agree, but that's what got Ben flagged and that's why they chased him down. It was a big gambling ring.

Abigail: Well, Ben had nothing to do with that.

Ben: That's right.

Aiden: So, I think the best thing to do is just go down to Florida, clear it up, and, uh, tell 'em you had nothing to do with this Wollensky. Abigail, could you give us a few minutes alone, please?

Hope: You are radiant.

Marlena: Life's good. It really is.

Hope: Hey! You should come over one night. We could have dinner. Don't worry, we'll order in. Must have time with John away.

Marlena: John away? Did you see John?

Hope: Uh, well, he texted me when I was on my way here. Said he had to take care of something out of town.

[Door opens]

Will: Ari isn't here.

Sonny: Kayla's taking her for the night?

Will: The Earth Day thing, it starts early tomorrow. She's having a bunch of kids for an overnight. We have the place all to ourselves, Sonny, so--so you can yell at me all you want. So, you can take your shots. Get it off your chest.

Clyde: Oh, sweetheart. Did I keep you waiting? My apologies.

Kate: No worries. A reporter called me to tell me he's going to print a rumor about Adrienne and Lucas. I kept myself busy.

[Knock at door]

Victor: Adrienne, dear. It's me.

Adrienne: [Gasps]

Victor: If you've got a few minutes, I'd like to talk to you.

[Indistinct whispering]

Adrienne: Sure! Uh, I'll be down in a couple minutes.

Victor: I'll be in the study.

Adrienne: Right.

Victor: Oh, one more thing.

Adrienne: Yes?

Victor: Lucas, you're fired.

Adrienne: I-I don't understand. What are you talking about?

Victor: Lucas--the guy lying next to you or on top of you. Well, I'm sure he'll explain it to you. Get dressed, and I'll see you both downstairs.

Adrienne: I thought you said no one was here.

Lucas: There wasn't! I swear! No one was here when I came in.

Adrienne: Then how did he get-- but how could you-- wait a minute. You don't think that he's-- oh, God. [Sigh] God! Oh, no. He can see us?

Lucas: I am so sorry. I know that you needed to keep this quiet.

Adrienne: Lucas, he just fired you. You're entitled to feel a lot worse.

Lucas: You know what, he's-- he's just mad right now. I'm sure I can talk him down later.

Adrienne: Mm, it's Victor.

Lucas: Listen, it's not the first time that we butted heads, okay? I can handle this.

Adrienne: Kate. Oh, my God, she must've told him.

Lucas: No, no, no. It couldn't be. It really couldn't be. She wouldn't.

Adrienne: Eh... look, I don't suppose it matters how he knows now. It's just what comes now.

Lucas: We're gonna be okay, all right? We can do this.

Sonny: Stop acting like all I need to do is throw a tantrum, get it out of my system, and then what? Everything's gonna be fine?

Will: Sonny, you said before that you couldn't yell because of the baby. I am trying to give you what you need. That's all. So, take your shots, Sonny. I deserve it.

Sonny: Does that mean you're gonna stop blaming Paul for what you did?

Will: He's after you.

Sonny: That doesn't justify what you did!

Will: I want to save my marriage!

Sonny: That's not the way to do it!

Will: I don't want to lose you, Sonny, and I won't!

Sonny: Well, if you keep this up-- you need to be honest with me. Can you be honest with me?

Will: I am being honest!

Sonny: I know what you told John about Paul.

Will: What?

Sonny: Yeah, no more lies. Stop it!

Will: I--I told him--

Sonny: Stop it, Will! No more lies. Not this time.

And as for her and Ben... ...she's coming around.

Lucas: Victor, this was all my doing.

Victor: Yes, I'm sure you had no trouble with Adrienne cheating on her husband. Certainly taught Will.

Lucas: That's not fair. Don't bring our boys into this.

Victor: Oh, was it fair for you to be cheating on your husband? Under his own roof?

Under your roof. And you're making that really clear right now, aren't you? He was away working his butt off so that you and your family could have the lifestyle that you deserve. He was cheating on her is what he was doing! He was messing around with a girl he was working with!

Adrienne: Lucas, please don't. Don't.

Lucas: No, I'm not gonna let him trash you like this, Adrienne. It's not right. Justin admitted to having an affair. He admitted the whole thing. Shut up and sit down. Both of you. So, what were you up to tonight? Oh...trying to take care of something for Ben. He's not in trouble again, is he? Not of his own doing. Not really. But I got someone on it now. Your son has had his share of problems.

Yeah. And lately, most of them start with Chad DiMera. Zoe walks in, looking fantastic, by the way.

[Chuckles] Did Abigail seem jealous? I don't know about jealous. Embarrassed. I think she hates Zoe because of that article Will wrote. Let's just say she was unsettled when she left. Mm-hmm. Well, that's a start. Now, how was your meeting with Miss Browning? Productive. We're very clear about her duties, and she knows it's in her interest to keep her boss happy. Good, good. Now, I have an idea for William's next assignment. Why should I go? Attorney-client privilege is breached if a third party is present, so... do you need that? Well, just think of it as a formality. Ben has nothing to hide from me. Right? Or anyone else. there a problem? I hope not. But I think I know why, uh, they believe I'm connected to wollensky. Victor, don't pretend you haven't seen me. Every day, for months, I've been here... waiting for phone dates that got canceled at the last minute, going weeks on end without one word from Justin. And then he finally does come home to see Sonny. And on his way back out the door, he tells me he's having an affair. On his way out the door to go be with this woman. So you were hurting and this one took advantage. No! No one took advantage. This was my decision. How liberated of you. Shame you're a married woman cheating on my nephew in my house. Really? Is that the problem, Victor? That it's your house? Justin is my family first. You're here because I thought you made the same promise. This cannot continue. Not here. I agree. Oh, you think it's going to be better at his place? What I do is my business. Well, we'll have to see what your husband says about that. You can't tell him.

The hell I can't! Unless you tell him first.

No! Victor! This is not a phone call. I will deal with it the minute he comes home. I will tell him. You have 24 hours. Then all bets are off. You can't threaten me, Victor, with this. Get out! Not so fast, Lucas. Just getting started with you. I'm so sorry., no. Uh, I just haven't checked my phone. I'm sure I have the same message from John. You never leave your phone for hours. Please, is everything okay? I can't get into it. Everything's been so great with you two.

[Sighs] I saw you at the benefit and I thought to myself, "Okay, this is it, this is fin--" wait a minute. Does this have anything to do with Will and Paul Narita?

Sonny: You implied that Paul wouldn't give you the interview unless you slept with him, like he coerced you. You don't know that, Sonny. You weren't there. I know Paul! And he would never do that. Really? There's no way? Why? Because he's so perfect and honorable and honest? Come on, Sonny! Maybe you don't know Paul as well as you think you do. The only person I don't know is you.

Just tell me everything's gonna work out for you two.

Of course. It's manageable. When John gets back, we'll, um, we'll fix things.

And what about for Will and Sonny? Maybe with a little room to breathe? That... and a big dose of honesty. That part is crucial. I guess you did need to yell after all. So now you're hurt?

Sonny, you do know me. I am the same man that you married. Now, if you want to know me, come to me. We do not need to tangle the rest of the world up in our business. I didn't go to John.

[Cell phone rings]

He came to me. He wanted to know about his son.

And you told him that Paul is a saint.

No, I told him the same thing I told Paul. That they needed to figure things out themselves. John's gone looking for Paul.

[Cell phone rings]

John has gone after-- what, like he got on a plane? He's bringing him back here? I don't know what-- I don't know! Please. Paul will jump at any excuse to come back here. You don't know that. He left. He left not because he wanted to. Now, he has a reason to be here, and it's not because of dear old daddy. He's gonna be all over you. Oh, just stop it! Stop! I just can't--ugh! It's true! I know that Paul came on to you. In the office. John told me. Paul misunderstood what I said. He was embarrassed. That's it. It was nothing.

And I have no reason not to be paranoid? It's not because you're sending mixed signals.

[Cell phone rings]

Sonny: It wasn't a big deal.

That's not what I mean, Sonny. You cut Paul all the slack in the world. He didn't mean to come on to you, but, but-- if this isn't an emergency, I'm busy. Honey, I'm sorry-- sorry to bother you, but I... I had to call.

Mom, are you okay?

I will be. I think. Um, I know the timing is really bad but I really need to see you right now. No, no, no. Where are you?

I'm in the private park off the square. I'll be brief. I'm on my way.

You can't leave right now. We are going around in circles. This is not about Paul.

Excuse me, this has everything to do with Paul. Paul is a distraction. Until you see that, we have nothing to talk about. Sonny! Sonny! Sonny, wait!

Well, you already fired me. I'm not sure there's any more you can do to me.

Then you haven't learned much over the years, have you? What do you want? You have any idea what's going on here? I know you were attacking Adrienne when she has every right to move on.

We're talking about you. Wait a minute--you knew Justin was having an affair?

I had my suspicions. You sound like a hypocrite, don't you?

Watch your tone, or I'll reconsider the very generous severance package I was going to give you.

What, are you afraid I'll sue you for breach of contract? Is that it? My lawyers would chew you up and spit you out. You deserve the severance. You did a good job. I'll even write you a letter of recommendation. But you're done here.

I might be done with the job, but I'm done with, uh--

Oh, well you think that there's mileage in that with Adrienne? She and Justin are gonna work things out. They've been through a lot worse. You're not even a footnote to them. That's it. Get the hell out. You're gonna have to call a cab. I had your car towed.

I didn't park anywhere near the house. You had to be looking for my car. How did you know I was here? Let me ask you something. How interested do you think Chad is in Ben's girlfriend?

I don't know. When Jordan first left town, maybe, but... I don't think Ben has anything to worry about. And I think that your son and Abby make a really cute couple. Yeah, but, that little girl's got a weakness for DiMera men.

Everyone has a weakness, Clyde.

[Cell phone rings]

Excuse me. It's Victor. Hello!

I need to see you at the house. Now. I'll be waiting. Oh, yes. Of course. I understand. Mm-hmm. I'll be right over. [Sighs] I have to go.

Well, the man says jump, and you say...

I say, it's business.

Oh, darling. We had a date. Oh, darling. Some things are worth waiting for. So, what do you think?

[Chuckles] Oh, that is genius. So, if things are progressing as they should be, then Abigail is developing some very healthy doubts about her Ben, or whatever his name is today, right about now. I never met this Wollensky. But there was this other guy who was always hanging around. And he told me that if anybody was ever looking for some action, to send them his way. So, what action?

Gambling. I--it seemed harmless enough. What was your cut?

You steer action towards this bagman, you get a cut, right? So, what was your cut?

At most, 100, 150 a week. It was more like a tip. Unless they can draw a line between you and this gambling ring. I was trying to save money for school. I swear, I had no idea who this guy was working for until one night, he said something about Wollensky and then he shut up. I figured that was his boss.

And when was this?

Right before I came here.

Aiden: Okay, well, this changes things. Okay, this Wollensky, he has many business interests apart from the gambling, okay? Now, if they're gonna try to tie you to one of those, it gets sticky, so here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna talk to the investigators, okay? You're gonna come clean with them, but do not offer to go there, okay? To make them come to you, out of their jurisdiction. All right? They need something really solid if they want to extradite.

Wait, could they? Could they extradite him?

Well, not based on what I've heard so far. But, one step at a time, okay? So, just let me know when you wanna talk to these investigators and, uh...

Yeah, I will. Thank you.

Well, don't thank me yet. And let me tell you something. Do not hold anything back from me again or you're gonna have to find yourself a new lawyer.

I understand.

I'll be in touch.

Thank you.

Yep. See ya.

Ben: I would've told you about this if I knew it was going to be a big deal.

Well, obviously it is a big deal, Ben.

But we don't know that.

Aiden just basically told you that you can't even step foot in Florida, otherwise you could be arrested. He thinks it's a big deal, Ben.

You mean he's worried?

He gets paid to worry. Okay? They already got the big guy on this case. They don't need me.

What? You told me that this was about your paycheck.

You obviously had to know that that wasn't true.

I wanted it to be true. Look, I'm sorry. Why don't we just go take a walk, and we'll be able to talk about this before I go to work? Actually, I-I have to leave for work, but I'll call in sick, right now. We can go talk about this, and we'll figure this out.

No, no, no! You're not gonna call in sick to work. You need this job. We'll--we'll just talk about it later, and I'll get out of here so you can get ready.

Hey. Are we really okay? Yeah.

Yeah, we're okay.

Hanging out in the square, looking for a little action?

Yes, the kind I don't have to arrest and detain. Mmm, I'm sorry I'm late. Routine meeting got a little less routine.

I know how that is. But you're here now. Mmm. Wow. I'd like to think I earned that. What's going on?

I'm happy. And I'm so grateful for what we have together.

So am I. Oh, so, um, did you make reservations for us?

I most definitely sort of did.

Sort of? That's scary. Because if that's your way of tricking me into cooking, you definitely do not want--

No, no, no, no, no, no, no. There is-- there is no trickery involved. In fact, I think you're gonna like where we're going.

Follow me. Yeah.

Which way?

This way.

Hope: Okay. Mom, what happened? Are you all right? No, I'm fine. Well, is it--is it, Dad? Is he okay? Uh, honey, I'm sorry. No, your dad, he's fine, I'm...fine. You're lying to me. Yeah, maybe a little.

[Sighs] I've been trying to think of the right words of how to say this. And maybe it's too soon after everything that's happened but... I wanted you to hear this from me first. Is dad having an affair? What's so urgent? I need you to take over mad world. Effective immediately.

[Surprised laugh]

What about Lucas?

Victor: It turns out that reporter you were talking to had his facts straight. Seems he was shacked up with my nephew's wife. Under my roof.

No way. No, no, no, no, no. You have to be mistaken, Victor.

Victor: No, I'm not.

That's-- that's impossible! Who told you that?

Victor: Henderson? Or was it the housekeeper? Actually, I never trusted her. Kate, it's true. I can't have a man like that running one of my companies. He's out. You're in.

Oh... [Laughs] What? This is vintage you. The shocked outrage slowly turning into reluctant acceptance.

Oh, pfft.

Just say yes!

I would have to think.

You don't want the job? After you went to all that trouble to stab your own son in the back?

Aiden: Ah, yes. All the benefits of home, minus the homework. I'd skip dinner if it didn't look so delicious. I love it.

What are you doing?

[Sighs] We don't have much time.

Do you know what? We have all the time in the world.

In theory.

Hi, Chad.

Chad: Oh, hey! What's that?

What's wrong?

Nothing is wrong. I'm just in a hurry.

Well, hey. You don't have to feel bad about the other night.

Me with Zoe.

Oh! No. I-I-I haven't even given that another thought.

Oh. How was it? How was your date? Did you have a nice time?

We did.

Mm-hmm. It was actually more business.

Mm-hmm. Well, I guess maybe in media, women dress differently for business. Well, I didn't notice. Barely noticed.

[Laughs] Be careful around her. She's a shark, Chad. I know the breed.

Chad: But you don't have to worry about me. Oh, what's going on with you and Ben and that whole Florida situation?

Hi, I hope it's okay that I just popped in.

Is, uh, is Sonny here?

Nope. He came home. He yelled at me. Then his mom called, and he took off. Are you looking for Sonny?

Yes, um, I have a question for him. I understand John has left town and I think Sonny was the last person he spoke to. John left to find Paul. He is going to find Paul, bring him back here, and then all hell will break loose.

Mom, I'm so sorry. How did you know?

I didn't know. I wasn't sure. It's just, I saw those pictures, and then, the way you rushed back to Dubai.

[Sighs] This--this sucks.

It does. I know exactly how you feel.

Oh, baby. I wish that wasn't true. But there's more. And this is what I need to keep between you and I. Please.

Of course. What? I haven't told your father yet. And it's not my place to tell Will either.

Will? What does this have to do with Will?

Oh, honey... I've known about your father for a long time. And it's been really hard. And I try to keep myself busy and try not to think about it... but I couldn't just lay down and die either.

No, no one wants that. Not even Dad.

Life goes on, honey. And... Lucas and I have become friends.

Yeah? Wait, you-- are you sleeping with Will's dad?

You know, you orchestrated this thing beautifully. Made sure that I found out about Lucas and Adrienne. You knew what I would do. Tell me, was it just stealing his job that you had in mind, or was there some other reason you wanted to screw up Lucas's life?

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Never mind, don't tell me. I'll be surprised, along with everybody else when the next anvil falls on the guy's head.

I would never sabotage my own son!

Would you like me to rescind the offer? I mean, Lucas is out, but I can certainly look elsewhere for his replacement. And you can stand by your son. I think you should do what you think is best for the company. I think any CEO who would be so ruthless just to get the job is going to make sure my company makes a lot of money. You know, I really wish you had been this sharp with Stefano, because then I would still be CEO of DiMera Enterprises and I wouldn't need a job. I knew that you'd find out about Lucas eventually. And that would've been much worse.

For whom?

Kate: [Sighs] I was trying to handle the fallout, Victor.

Victor: The only thing you wanted to handle, Kate, was your start date. Which is tomorrow. Sleep tight. If you get any sleep at all.

Where are you going?

Oh, I think you're gonna want some privacy.

[Scoffs] For what? Bonding with your son.

Hey. I just need to clock in on time. Hold on a second. What'd the lawyer say?

[Sighs] I messed up. I didn't tell him everything at first. Then once Mr. Jennings heard about the bagman and me feeding him gamblers, he got worried.

But it was harmless, right? I mean, you just pointed out one guy to another guy. Why didn't you speak up?

I don't know. It was stupid.

[Sighs] Is there something you're not saying to me?

Oh, it's just some mix-up. Yeah, the cops in Florida are, um, are making a case against this--this big gambler guy, Wollensky, and, uh, he knew someone who--who might have come into the club where Ben worked.

So, it's totally random, you know? It's not really a-- a big deal.

Hmm. Well, that's a relief. I was afraid maybe he--

What? Look, we know Ben has a temper. If he had gotten in a fight down there or worse-- no.

No. It's nothing like that, Chad. Are you mad I told Ben about it? I was just trying to help.

I know. No. Thank you. You don't look happy. I am.

[Nervous laugh] I am. It could've been much worse, and we're gonna figure it out now, so that's all that matters. I gotta-- I gotta run. Later.

Honey, you'll do yourself a big favor if you don't overreact.

Paul is coming back here not because he wants to find his long lost daddy, but to steal my husband. How am I supposed to stay calm about that?

Nobody's going to steal Sonny.

Oh, Grandma, you of all people should know. Two words: Kristen DiMera.

Oh, you can't compare that young man to Kristen.

No, actually, Paul is worse. Because he's perfect and everyone loves and trusts him.

You're turning into your mother.

Will you stop comparing me to my mom?

I am being realistic. My competition is a millionaire ballplayer that oozes charisma from every pore. And I have to come at him with all the ammo that I have.

And what is that? Lies? Manipulation? That's only gonna push Sonny farther away from you.

Sonny: This sounds serious. I don't know. But it certainly wasn't trivial. We both-- we both knew it was wrong. What your dad did to me didn't justify what I did. And I don't know what's gonna happen now, honey, and I-I don't want this to become public or messy. And I especially don't want you to feel like you have to choose sides. I just didn't want you to hear it from anyone but me.

[Sobbing] No, Mom, hey, who else would I hear it from? I mean, who else knows?

Your uncle Victor. I'm pretty sure he'll keep his mouth shut, but Kate knows too. And that's what worries me.

Lucas, can you believe that bastard? I heard you. Okay, listen to me.

No, no, no, I'm done with that.

No more. You're the one who had the affair with Adrienne.

What, what? So I get what I deserve? Is that it, Mom?

I am doing you a favor.

A what? A favor? Really?

If that affair had gone on any longer, Victor would have found out on his own and it would've been much worse.

Is that what you keep telling yourself? You wanted my job! Clearly, that meant more to you than I do.

Mm-mm-mm-mm, what are you doing? I told you, we have all-- we have children. We don't have much time. I thought you told me that Ciara was spending the night with Kayla.

Well, she is. Well, Chase has a sleepover too.

Really. And Kayla's gonna pick him up in the morning and take him to that Earth Day event. So we're free. We are free all night, all morning. I don't know how you managed to do this.

Well, I might've put a flyer in front of Kayla. Happy Earth Day. My new favorite holiday. [Moans]

[Hope laughs]

I'm not hiding anything. The guy they arrested, Wollensky, apparently he's a pretty big deal. But I had-- I had no contact with him. Ever. None. But the guy I knew worked for him so I-I got flagged when I left town.

So that's it? That's the whole story?

So when you came to Salem, you were just following your sister? There's no other reason you left Florida?

There's no reason. But I really do have to go clock in, okay? I'll see you later.

Zoe, good news. Remember I told you I might have some story ideas for you? I have a perfect one for Will Horton. An in-depth article about Clyde Weston. Now, I know it looks like I sold you down the river, but I actually have a long-term plan.

Yeah, yeah, you always do, don't you? Because you-- you know when Victor found out about Adrienne, he would fire you. So, now with me in control, I can bring you back in.

I mean, it's gonna take a little time, but...

Yeah, sure. Sure.

Lucas, come on. You know, I should've learned my lesson a long time ago. I should've learned my lesson when you burnt the mansion down and you left me to die in the blaze.

Okay, that is not true. I had no idea.

That's not true.

You know what? That's not even the worst of it. You trying to kill me doesn't even make the top ten, does it? I mean, you treated me like a chump when I was a teenager. You manipulated me into doing and being whatever you needed me to be at that moment! And you ruined my relationship with Sami!

Sami? Sami was not--

Sami was the mother of my children, and I loved her! We could've made it if it wasn't for you!

Really? Is this what you're gonna do? You're gonna pull out ancient history now because you got caught with your pants down? Is that it? Grow up!

Grow up? I have grown up! I have! Believe me, I have.

Where are you going? Lucas, where are you going?

You need a job.

I don't need a job!

I'll get my own job.

Don't-- but not with you! I'm not working for you!

Don't be foolish!

Never again!

Don't be foolish.

I am not gonna let you ruin my relationship with Adrienne. I won't do it.

You don't have a future with Adrienne!

That's not for you to say, is it, Mom?

Would you be smart? Would you be smart for the first time? This is just a blip, Lucas.

A what?

A blip!

It's a what? Every time you step into my life and you butt in and you scramble my life, it's a blip! Because all the great drama in your life, that's all I'll ever be! That's all I'll ever be, isn't it, Mom?

It's okay. I understand. You're upset. I understand.

Do you know what? Funny thing is, I'm not upset. I'm really not. You know why? Because this means I'm free. Finally I'm free from you!

I'm free!

How did they find out?

I'm not sure. I think Kate guessed, and then she told Victor.

Is Uncle Vic mad?

Well, he kicked me out of the house and fired Lucas. Maybe it was just an exercise, but, yeah, I would--I would say he was pretty mad.

Uncle Vic kicked you out of the house? Like, your clothes and everything?

He just threw everything out?

No, no, no. But I'm really not sure I want to go back there either.

Mom, I'm really sorry. I'll go talk to Uncle Vic right now.

No, no.

You want me to go over there?

I'll leave right now.

No, no, no, no, no. No, that's the last thing I want. It's bad enough that I've complicated your life and Will's. I do not want you to worry about me. I want you to take care of yourself.

We're gonna be okay. We will be. We will be.

Oh, honey, now stop and think about this. You could do a lot of damage here if you're not careful.

So, I'm supposed to just do nothing?

Well, no, I didn't say that exactly.

Paul is coming back. And he is using John to do it. He doesn't care about his newfound daddy. Aren't you at all upset about that?

I don't see it the same way.

Then you need to open you eyes. I know why Paul is really coming back... and I'm gonna be ready for him.
