[Phone rings]

Chad: Hey, father, look, I haven't gotten to those Venezuela numbers yet, but--

Stefano: Forget Venezuela, all right? Call club TBD. Direct them to transfer all your calls to you at home.

Chad: Huh? Why?

Stefano: So you don't miss one from the Florida bureau of investigation. Hey.

Chad: Concerning what?

Stefano: They want to talk to you about a former employee, all right? A man named Kevin Reynolds. Only now he is calling himself Ben Rogers.

[Ben groans]

Okay, listen, I know that you have two midterms to study for, so I'm just gonna give you one last chance to bail on helping me with this charity stuff, if you want to.

No way. I gave you my word. And I bought a big box of snacks and cookies in case we need a little boost of energy.

Oh, wow. You thought of everything, didn't you?

Yes, I did.

Okay, stop. Seriously, you do this every time. And we're never gonna get any work done if you start that.

Sure we will.

No, we won't.

Later. Later.

Ben, stop. Later.

Anne: Wait, so you're-- you're telling me that Dr. Dan's on-again, off-again squeeze, Nicole Walker--

Is playing around on him? Yes.

Anne: Well, she is just the gift that keeps on giving.

Theresa: I know, and all I had to do was just spill the beans accidentally.

Anne: Poor Danny. I hope this doesn't make him doubt his masculinity.

Theresa: Ugh, Anne, I am telling you, this guy could make iron man doubt his masculinity.

Anne: Yeah? What's his name?

Theresa: Xander. But I've never seen him before, but I can tell you, he was just built and sexy and just a teeny, tiny bit dangerous.

Mm.

Xander: It's been too long, uncle. I'm so happy to see you again.

Victor: Well, it's good to see you too, Alexandros. But I must say, I'm a little surprised to see you in Salem.

Xander: It was a last-minute change in plans.

Victor: Business?

Xander: Yes, but it's always a pleasure to see you. I owe you everything, uncle Victor. I owe you my life.

Melanie: They let you out of your big meeting?

Brady: Yeah. Finally. But I feel like a jerk.

Melanie: Why?

Brady: Because I tell you I'm gonna whisk you away on this private jet and do this whole thing, and then I have to cancel it.

Melanie: We'll do it another time.

Brady: Sorry. Oh, shoot. Oh. Oh. You know, you are taking this awfully well.

Melanie: Stuff happens.

Brady: I don't think these surprise vacations are your thing.

Melanie: Why do you say that?

Brady: 'Cause, honestly, you didn't seem that excited when I first told you about it in the first place.

Melanie: That's not--I was excited. I was very excited.

[Cell phone ringing]

[Groans] Hey, what's up?

Get your little butt down here now. I talked to Aiden this morning. The good news is no one's canceled their donations after yesterday's debacle. The bad news is Aiden's got to go out of town. So I have the honor of meeting Paul Narita right here to accept his donation check.

Let me ask you this, how am I supposed to act grateful to that little sleaze?

No. Paul is not a DiMera. And, yes... I think that john is his father.

Maybe you should try to find a way to go a little easier on Paul.

Give me one reason why I should.

I can't believe how they got this so wrong.

Paul: If it bothers you, don't look at it.

I can't just ignore it, Paul. Friends keep calling, asking me why I didn't tell them you got married.

Paul: The article says I'm will Horton. It's obviously a mistake.

[Sighs] There have been too many mistakes. The biggest mistake of all is that you came to this town in the first place.

Paul: Do you think grandpa will read that? Maybe I should call him.

No, you don't have to. You can tell him in person tonight, when we're back home where we belong.

This must be the article Zoe was talking about.

Will, oh, my God. Sonny.

Sure. No problem.

There is a problem. That's what I'm telling you.

Don't worry about that. I'm gonna pick up coffee on my way over.

All I need you to bring is a vial of Theresa's plasma.

Light, no sugar-- got it. I'll see you soon.

Who the heck was that?

Um, hr. I don't have the day off anymore--work emergency.

What kind of emergency?

Um, I'll explain later. I have to change and get to the hospital.

Okay.

Sorry.

Um, hey.

Yeah?

I'm sorry.

Mm. It's okay. You have to work. If anybody understands that, I do. See you.

I guess the science is here. So, if they took the fertilized egg from Theresa and maybe somebody else carried it to term... I'm doing this for you, Brady, because I love you, but it is not easy.

I'm sorry I'm late. I got hung up.

It's no big deal. You know, your editor came by today looking for you.

Yeah, I heard. I ran into my grandmother.

Oh, she was here too.

Zoe said you had some real bombshell of an article.

[Chuckles nervously]

What's it about?

Chad: So Ben used to call himself Kevin Reynolds.

Okay. I wonder what he was up to in the sunshine state.

Mm-hmm.

Well, the authorities will explain all of that.

Chad: Well, I'm looking forward to hearing from them.

Be careful with this, huh? And don't pounce.

Chad: I learned how to play the long game by watching you. Trust me.

Stefano: I'll leave you to it, then, all right? But do not forget about those Venezuela numbers, huh?

Chad: [Chuckles] I-I won't. And, father... thank you for giving me all this help with Abigail.

Stefano: That's what fathers do. They help their sons get what they want.

[Laughs]

Stefano: And it's perfect that the girl you want is Abigail Deveraux.

[Laughs]

Marlena: You know, will bears equal responsibility in this mess, john. I don't think he should get a pass because he's family.

John: Come on, Doc. Will's lived most his life here in Salem. Paul is a national celebrity. I'm sure that had to impress will. It impressed me. And it had to play a part in what he did.

Marlena: It doesn't change the fact that will is married.

John: No argument there. So, when Paul walks in here, I will just take his check, say thank you, just keep it short and sweet.

[Cell phone chimes]

Good idea.

Marlena: Oh, well, I'm afraid I have to go... unless you think I should stay.

John: No, no, you go. I'll--I'll handle this.

Okay.

Thank you. Thanks.

Paul: You didn't eat your breakfast either. Mom, I know you're upset, but you have to eat something.

Tori: I will. I promise.

Paul: I have to go.

Tori: W-where?

Paul: Don't worry. I'm gonna go meet Aiden Jennings to give my donation to the fund.

Tori: What if he asks you to do more fund-raising?

Paul: Then I'll say, "No, thank you." I'm ready to leave Salem too.

Tori: Good. I do know how difficult this is for you-- giving up the chance for happiness with the man you love.

Sometimes doing the right thing is painful. But it doesn't change the fact that it's the right thing.

[Door closes]

Even if that sacrifice is enough to rip you apart.

Will: Zoe thinks that every article is a bombshell. That's just her. This piece isn't gonna change the world. In fact, I'm gonna shelve it.

You are?

Will: Well, after yesterday, I'm front-page material for all the tabloids. I mean, I will have to do a solid piece of reporting, or I'll never get my credibility back.

And that article that Zoe's talking about, it won't do that for you? You never told me what it's about. What's it about?

Will: The, um--the school district may be playing fast and loose with their budget.

Oh, yeah? The school dist--

yeah.

Hmm. Sounds like a pretty good article, will.

Will: Well, I-I couldn't get anybody to go on record. And so without that, it's really just my opinion.

I just had no idea that you were doing that. Like, how come you didn't say anything?

I-I guess we've both been going through a lot lately. Yeah, we have.

Sonny: [Sighs] Your grandma recommended a therapist.

Will: [Scoffs] I have a feeling that things are gonna start getting a lot better for us, and soon, without a therapist. But if, you know, they don't, then, of course, we can see this person. I just-- I want... I want a chance to, you know, fix things. I want to earn your trust back. And I think it's gonna be a lot easier to do that now that Paul is leaving town.

Sonny: How do you know that Paul's leaving?

Will: I mean, after yesterday, I mean, why wouldn't he? As far as I know, they're already gone.

Sonny: They?

Will: I meant Paul.

Sonny: I know, but you said "they." Like, Paul and someone else.

Will: Oh, I meant, um, Paul, and, um, his mother.

Sonny: How did you know his mom was in town?

And thank you very much for filling me in on this. No, I had no idea. I will definitely be in touch with your office. Thank you.

[Keys clacking]

I can't believe this. We--we're halfway done.

Ben: [Chuckles] We make a great team, Deveraux. Face it.

Abby: We do. I have to say, Ben, it's really nice for me to not have to do this alone.

[Cell phone rings]

Abby: It's from Chad.

Ben: No kidding.

Abby: He said the board approved the revised budget plan I submitted. And he wants an update on the application process. I'm just texting him to tell him that I'm working on it.

Ben: Right.

Abby: I'm sorry.

Ben: For what?

Abby: I just... I just feel like there's no escaping Chad sometimes, you know, even when it's just you and me.

Ben: I don't see Chad anywhere. Do you?

Abby: No, I don't.

Mm-mm.

John: [Exhaling sharply] Aiden said I'd be meeting him.

Paul: Yeah, I know. Aiden had to go out of town for a client, so you got me instead. Got a problem with that? [Sighs]

Victor: No need to flatter me.

Xander: Oh, I know I don't. It's just, I owe you a debt I'll be paying on for the rest of my life. I did a lot less time than I could have, and that's all thanks to you.

Victor: So you keeping your nose clean these days or at least putting up the appearance?

Xander: Absolutely.

Victor: Well, tell me something, does the younger generation have their own term for "money laundering"?

Xander: We call it "charity" or "my pharmaceutical company." But every operation I've ever run has been there to serve you whenever you need it.

Victor: Well, that's all I need to hear. The less I know, the better. My reputation has been considerably enhanced in this town the last few years.

Xander: Good idea. Leave the less attractive details to somebody else, someone you can always count on.

Victor: Like you? You know, I don't recall summoning you here. So why don't you tell me exactly why you're in Salem.

Anne: [Sighs happily] Uh, so, tell me, if TV girl is two-timing Dr. Dan, does that mean he's available?

Gross.

[Both laugh]

Anne: What? Come on. It wasn't too long ago that you were singing a whole different tune.

Yeah, that was before I found out he was a judgmental, sanctimonious know-it-all

mm-hmm. Who makes a doctor's salary.

Do you really think that I am that shallow and materialistic?

Wha--

Anne, no. No, no. There is not enough money in the world for you to pay me to put up with him and his obnoxious sidekick daughter.

Okay.

Hi. Oh, what--oh. Okay, chica, hand it over.

Melanie: Hand what over?

The plasma you stole. Then you and I are gonna walk over to Seth burns' office, and you're going to admit everything you did. And after that, you're gonna take that stuffed rabbit and never come back.

Melanie: Okay. You're mad.

Oh, you noticed.

Melanie: Yes, but what if I had a really, really good reason for doing what I did?

I-I'm gonna kick myself in the face for asking this, but what good reason could there be for you to steal Theresa's plasma?

Melanie: Okay, I'm trying to solve something that's really complicated and possibly disastrous.

Oh, really, Nancy drew? You know what? Hand it over.

Melanie: I can't do that. I don't-- - look, I-- - I don't have it because I broke it.

You know what? That's it.

Melanie: What are you doing? What are you doing?

I'm calling Seth to tell him we're on our way.

Melanie: No, hey, please. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait. Listen, we've been friends from the beginning. Real friends. It's just one small-- if I could tell you about why I took it, I would. I promise, I would. It's just a very small vial of--of plasma. And just--if you could just, please, keep this between us and not tell anybody else. I'm begging you.

If this gets discovered, I get fired, okay? And there's nothing you could say to justify what you--

Jorge, you idiot, I'm still waiting on those forms.

What's she doing in here?

Now? Can I at least put my shoes on?

Anne: I'm talking to my friend, Theresa. You would know what that's like if you had any of those.

You know, they say you can tell a lot about a person by the friends that she hangs around. And now I know all I need to know about you.

Hey, who do you think you are?

Oh, save it, okay? You're the one who plays with stuffed bunnies. We have a psych ward, by the way. You should check it out some time, after you fill out those damn forms that I gave you.

Are you this much of a bitch all the time? Or it is something special you do for me?

Oh. Let me put it to you this way. Hanging around losers tends to bring it out in me.

[Smooches] Where does she get off talking to people like that?

Melanie: I don't know, but like I said, you and I have been friends for a very, very long time. And unlike Theresa, I would never do something intentionally to hurt somebody. The only reason I took that vial is because I'm trying to protect somebody.

Who?

Melanie: I can't tell you that. And I can't tell you anything else, but you have to trust me. And if you know me as well as I think you do, you'll know that I'm telling you the truth.

Xander: I didn't plan on coming to Salem. I had to do it for business reasons. But the payoff's going to be worth the trip you'll see that when you get your cut.

Victor: As I said, the less I know about your business, the better.

Xander: Of course.

Victor: But as long as you're in town, I suppose we should probably arrange a little dinner.

Xander: I'd like that.

Victor: You can impress all the guests with the success of your pharmaceutical company.

Xander: Well, you name the day, I'll be there.

Victor:  I'll let you know. In the meantime, I have to get back to work.

Xander: Of course.

Brady. Oh-- you look fantastic. Man, it's been, like, forever.

Brady: Yeah. Who the hell are you?

Will: [Chuckles] Well, grandma told me that Paul's mom was in Salem. But, you know, maybe she's already left.

Sonny: So you never met her?

Will: No.

Sonny: 'Cause, actually, she is in Salem. I met her the other day. And she wasn't too thrilled to meet me.

Will: Well, Paul did mention her when I was interviewing him. Based on what he said, I'm sure she must just be mortified - by all of this.

Sonny: Mm-hmm.

Will: She's probably bugging him to get her out of Salem, which is really the best thing for everyone.

Sonny: Maybe it is. They could be gone by now.

[Sighs] Do you mind just sticking around? 'Cause Ari's gonna be dropped off very soon by the sitter.

 Will: You're going out somewhere?

Yeah, I'm gonna go to the club, 'cause I got some stuff to take care of.

Okay, well, um... don't--don't be gone too long.

You're lying to me again.

[Sighs] I don't have a problem.

Seems like you do, though.

John: No. But how would you like me to act?

Paul: Like you're not gonna judge me before you know all the facts.

John: All right, here's your facts. You slept with will, and I caught you coming on to his husband right back there in that room.

Paul: Right. It's all my fault. Life's a lot more simple when you're only looking at one side of things, right?

John: I didn't say that.

Paul: Yeah, you said enough. Here's your damn check. And don't worry about it. I have a flight out of here tonight. I'm done with this town. So long. You know, will talked about you while he was interviewing me, and you sounded like good guy. But you're no different than those vultures who used to hang outside the clubhouse. They put a person up on a pedestal, but the minute they walk in a run or act like a human being... you tear them to pieces. - [Sighs]

[Cell phone ringing]

[Knock at door]

Paul's not here.

I know that. I came to see you.

You and I have nothing to talk about.

You already made one terrible mistake. Don't make another one.

I don't know how you're supposed to get energy from something that, literally, tastes like cardboard. I mean, seriously, it's awful. We deserve a real reward here.

I agree. All right. Where are the cookies?

Okay, I think we deserve more than cookies as a reward.

And, you know, gosh, I don't-- I don't know if I want to spoil my appetite for that takeout I ordered.

Hmm. Let's see. We have to kill time before the takeout gets here, and we really deserve a reward.

Mm-hmm.

What could we possibly do with our time, Ben?

Well, let me jog your memory a little bit. Something about an incentive to finish work quickly? Does that ring a bell?

Just vaguely.

Mm. Vaguely.

Yeah. Okay, it's definitely coming back to me.

Yeah?

Don't you recognize your cousin?

Brady: Alexandros? Oh, my god, how long has it been?

Xander: That summer where uncle Victor took us to the private island off Mykonos.

Brady: Alexandros Kiriakis, it's been a long time, man.

Xander: I'm Xander cook now. I use my mother's maiden name, professionally, anyway. You and me and Daniel--we had some fun times that summer.

Brady: My, god, we did. That was a long time ago.

Philip. Remember Philip?

Mm-hmm. Philip was sent away to that sleep-away camp. That was his mother's idea. Uh-huh. Brady and Daniel... you were like my heroes back then, big brothers I never had. I don't remember you hanging around for the rest of the summer, though. You--

Xander: I had some other stuff going on back then. I guess I went looking for trouble.

And you always seem to know where to find it.

Xander: Well, I wasn't like Brady and Daniel. In uncle Victor's eyes, you two could do no wrong.

Yeah, that was, uh-- that was back then. They've both had their moments since then, but they faced their troubles like men. I couldn't be more proud of the two of them.

Guess what.

What?

That phony little skank is hanging out with that loser from the blood bank.

Oh, which phony little skank would that be? The town is teeming with them.

Yeah.

Maybe I can use this to stir up trouble with Brady.

Ah, Melanie Jonas.

I mean, I am on a roll, you know.

Theresa: What? No, Anne, look, I am not-- I don't want Brady back, okay? I just--I want to, you know, mess with Melanie.

Anne: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, right. Of course.

Theresa: No, I have told you time and time again. I'm over Brady, and I couldn't care less what he thinks of me.

Anne: Mm-hmm. Even if I told you I heard him ask somebody about how you're doing?

Theresa: Really?

Anne: Got you. It's okay. You keep telling yourself you don't care about him anymore, you may even make yourself believe it, but not me, honey, because I know you would do anything to get him interested again. Bye.

[Scoffs, sighs]

Melanie: Okay, you're awfully quiet. Um, am I getting through to you at all?

You know, uh, let's just forget the whole thing, okay?

Melanie: Really?

Well, I still don't like it. But I also know who my friends are in this place.

Melanie: Oh, thank god. Um, I really did break the vial, by the way. I wasn't lying about that. So I need another one.

You need another one?

Melanie: Yes.

You said you're not using it to hurt anyone, right? Does that include Theresa?

Melanie: Yes.

That's too bad.

[Chuckles]

But... - I'll give you one anyway.

Melanie: Oh.

And I'll cover for you.

Melanie: Oh. What can I do to thank you?

Just no more stuffed animals, okay?

Melanie: Yeah, of course. No, you've-- god, that's just...

It really is good to see you again.

Victor: Brady and I have some business to discuss.

Xander: Right. Sure. I'll--I'll get going.

Brady: Are you here for a while?

Xander: Yeah. Yeah, I guess I am.

Brady: All right, we'll get together. We'll catch up.

Xander: Sounds good. And great to see you again, uncle Victor.

Brady: I haven't thought about that guy in a while.

Victor: Oh, why should you? Distant relative, only here for a few days, no big deal.

Brady: He's your brother's son. He's a little more than a distant relative, don't you think?

Will: John.

John: Hey, will. Got a few minutes?

Will: Sure.

John: Just wanted to see how you and Sonny are doing after yesterday.

Will: Yeah, I want to apologize about everything. I hope we didn't ruin the benefit.

John: No, no. Everything's gonna be fine.

Will: Well, I want to thank you again for putting together the celebration for our anniversary. What a mess.

John: Ah, you and Sonny will get through this.

Will: You really think so?

John: Oh, yeah, you both want it to work out, it's gonna work out. And I just saw Paul Narita. He's leaving town tonight.

Will: He said that? Is that, uh-- is that for sure?

John: Well, sounded like it to me.

Will: That's the best news I've heard all day.

John: You know, I was wondering about something. Maybe you could help me with it. I know that... Paul donated the blood to save Sonny. Could that have somehow made the two of them... closer?

Will: They didn't have far to go.

John: What does that mean?

Will: There's something that you don't know. It was something that I didn't know until everything blew up. Um...

John: I'm listening, will.

Will: Sonny is the one that Paul was talking about in the article. Sonny's the one that proposed to Paul a couple years ago.

John: You're kidding me.

Will: No. I wish I was.

John: Hold on, but... Paul turned Sonny down, though, right?

Will: Yeah. But Paul is still in love with Sonny.

John: Is that why he came after you-- because he was jealous?

Will: No, it's not like that. I never mentioned Sonny when I was interviewing Paul. Paul didn't know that I was married to Sonny until.. until after he seduced me.

John: And you believe the bastard?

Paul: I hope it's okay that I'm in here. The barista said it was.

Sonny: You're leaving soon, right?

Paul: That's the plan. I wanted to talk to you first. The idea of leaving without seeing you again, I really didn't want that to happen.

Sonny: Look, I am so sorry about what happened yesterday.

I know. It had to have been that bellhop who talked to the press. You know, derrick?

Yeah. Yeah, I figured that. Maybe it's better this way, that everything came out. No more secrets. Everyone knows everything.

Paul:  There's just one thing. I'm afraid that may have ruined any shot that you and I may have had.

I don't know who's more pushy, you or your grandson.

Yeah, well... yeah, will has made some pretty poor choices lately.

The only one I care about is how he seduced my son.

Really? Blackmailing you wasn't a problem for you?

I have no idea what you're--

Marlena: Don't lie to me. Will told you to leave town. We both know why. And I know you lied about having been to Salem before.

I was rattled when I met you. I had just found out my son is gay. I don't know what I said. I had a job in Salem. It was many years ago, working for Stefano DiMera. It's not something I'm proud of. I was young. I had no idea what kind of person he was.

Marlena: He wasn't the only person you knew here. You had a relationship with a man while you were here. His name was john black.

Victor: [Sighs] When I say, "distant relative," I meant I like to keep him at a distance. He's bad news, always has been.

Brady: I remember hearing that he got charged with killing a guy a couple years after that summer on the island.

Victor: Yes, well, they couldn't charge him with murder. I think it was manslaughter. May have been knocked down to assault and battery.

Brady: Did you have something to do with that?

Victor: I did what I could for him.

Brady: Which was?

Victor: Oh, I can't remember. It's been so long ago. He's a different man now, anyway. Tells me he has A... pharmaceutical company in Europe, very successful.

Brady: Good for him. Maybe he's finally turned his life around.

 Victor: Mm.

Well, I wasn't like Brady and Daniel. In uncle Victor's eyes, you two could do no wrong.

Yeah, that was, uh-- that was back then. They've both had their moments since then, but they faced their troubles like men. I couldn't be more proud of the two of them.

Xander: Greg, you are, without a doubt, the best. I cannot thank you enough. I'm gonna buy you dinner. No, a real dinner, like, not a burger joint.

Melanie: So do you know when you'll have the plasma analyzed by? A complete analysis by tomorrow? Wow. Thank you. You're the best.

[Chuckles] Okay. All right, Theresa, I guess we'll know by tomorrow if you and Brady were gonna have a baby.

You know, now that I think of it, who says the hospital has to find somebody to help you with this? I mean, you and I could handle it. I mean, you could do the whole thing right here.

Mm-hmm.

That office you're in, it's just so uncomfortable. And it's so comfy right here.

Are you questioning my true motive?

Oh, 100%, totally. Mm.

[Knock at door]

Takeout's here.

Okay, I'm gonna hop in the shower.

All right. Go.

[Knock at door]

Yeah. Coming.

[Shower running]

Chad?

Chad: Hope I didn't catch you at bad time. I thought it'd be better to do this in person than over the phone.

Do what exactly?

Chad: The club forwarded me a call a little while ago-- Florida bureau of investigation. See, it appears they're looking for a guy by the name of Kevin Reynolds.

Will: I'll put it this way. Paul comes off as sincere, you know, genuine. But even before I interviewed him, he was reaching out to Sonny.

John: In what way?

Will: Well, he made it clear to Sonny that he wanted him back. Sonny told him that he was married.

John: But Paul kept pushing anyway? [Scoffs] That's unbelievable. So, when he met with you, though, he had to know who you were?

Will: He swears that he didn't. I mean, what am I supposed to do? Like, I have to take his word for it.

John: Yeah, well, I don't. And I hope I've had my last encounter with that guy.

Will: Me too. He'd better keep his promise and get the hell out of Salem.

Sonny: Paul, when I said I wanted to see you, I didn't mean--

Paul: Just give me a minute. There's something else I need to say. When we were alone in here yesterday, I could feel that you still cared for me. I mean, it was obvious.

Sonny: Paul, I will always care for you.

Paul: Yeah. And if john hadn't come in--

Sonny: Nothing would've happened. I'm a married man, and I'm committed to my marriage.

Paul: Still?

Sonny: Yeah.

Paul: Then why did you text me? What did you want to talk about? Did you just want to rub it in my face?

Sonny: No. I would never do that. I texted you because I wanted to talk to you... about your mother.

Tori: Look, I don't know what your grandson could have told you--

Marlena: Will didn't say anything to me. John told me about the relationship with you.

Tori: Oh, then he must've told you it wasn't serious.

Marlena: Don't lie to me about this. John said he had an affair with you when you were here in Salem. You left town. You gave birth to a son. You named him Paul.

Paul: I don't get it. Why do you want to talk about my mom?

Sonny: Because she hasn't been honest with you about a lot of things.
