[Scoffs] Do not sweat any of that, Kate. Why would I? People always love to see another person take a fall. That's just the way it is, human nature... mm. At its finest. But when I make my comeback, it will just make it sweeter. Cheers. (Abigail) oh! - Oh, my-- - [Chuckles]
[Clears throat] You're here late. Yeah, I'm, uh, working on the charity project. Two-person job. I can handle it. You shouldn't have to, not by yourself. I just had a board meeting, and we've resolved to get you help. That would be great. Okay. Oh, Chad, um, thank you. (Lucas) hey, Adrienne. Oh, Lucas, hi. Hi. Um, I heard Justin went back to Dubai. Yes, got his parental obligation out of the way, so there was nothing left for him to do here. Have you, uh, seen Sonny since he's been back? Have you talked to him? Yes, of course. Yesterday. I know what happened. Your son cheated on my son with Paul Narita. Well, I didn't give a damn if you could pitch or not. Or how much money you made. I asked you to marry me because I loved you with all my heart. I couldn't imagine my life without you.
[Will sighs] You son of a bitch. I told you to stay away from my husband! I warned you! - Will, I'm sorry, I just-- - wait a minute. You warned him to stay away? What the hell is that all about, will? "Sorry, baby, you were really wiped out, "and I had to split. "It was fun while it lasted, but all good things must come to an end"?
[Sighs] What the hell? Why does this keep happening to me?
[Sighs] Why did he even come back?
[Sniffles] Why am I the one that always ends up alone? Mel, stop. Mel, stop. Just leave it. I don't want you to get hurt. You're right, though. After Kristen left, Theresa thought she was pregnant. I'm gonna get something to clean this up.
Okay, so... Clint took blood from you and Brady. Why?
I wasn't trying to keep it from you. I just didn't think it was my place to say anything, but I'm glad that you talked to Sonny about it because will and Sonny are gonna need all of our support-- Sonny didn't tell me. Will told you? No. I found out rather awkwardly when I walked in on will and Paul in Paul's hotel room. You did what? Nothing was going on. Damn right nothing was going on. I mean, not anymore. I know that for a fact. No, I know that too. But I also know that, while my son was in the hospital close to death, his husband was with another man. Well, he was-- he was just finishing up an interview, you know? - He was doing his job. - Really? Really? Is sleeping with Paul Narita part of the job description? How can you and I work things out if he's constantly coming around, reminding you of how much you were in love with him? That's not what I'm doing, will. Bull! You bring it up every time you're within 2 feet of him, and lately, you've been within 2 feet of him quite a lot. Will, do you hear yourself? Do you really think I'm that gullible? That he shows up, comes out of the closet-- with a shove from you, I might add-- and I'm just gonna give up on everything we've built and run back to him? Why are you here right now, Sonny? Why did you come to this private place if all Paul wanted to do was talk about sports? Because I didn't want you to know about it.
Actually, I'm a little surprised you're not reveling in my demise, considering the way that I treated your sister. You were pretty terrible to her, yeah. But on the other hand, you were the one to help her see the truth about Chad DiMera and dump his ass. So for that, I'll cut you a little slack. I appreciate that. I just hope what happened between Chad and your sister doesn't end up hurting you, though. How could it hurt me? I'm thrilled she's not with that jerk anymore. I'm sure you are. It's just now that Chad is going to be free to zero in on someone else. I hope it's not his ex-girlfriend. I'm on the board, Abigail. Getting you help with your project is part of my job. I was thanking you for something else. What? The email that you sent. - Oh, oh. - About my dad's book. Yeah, I put together the quotes and some other ones, and I printed them off for my family. That's great. I wasn't sure if you'd seen them or not. I hadn't until you sent them, so seriously, thank you. It really meant a lot to me, Chad. Mm-hmm. So, uh, another boring board meeting? I do zone out most of the time. Not today. We're working on overhauling the blood bank policy since there was a shortage of one kind of blood that almost cost Sonny his life. Right, yeah. It was a close call. Too close. If we hadn't been lucky enough to have the right person show up and donate the right kind of blood at the right time, he wouldn't have made it. Look, I-I don't want to argue about this, okay? Sonny almost died. Will cheated on him. There's nothing more to say about it. Come on, Adrienne. Look, I didn't want to get into this with will either, okay? But he insisted. He wanted to convince me that it didn't mean anything. It didn't. Cheating in a marriage means something. It always means something, and I don't give a damn how young you are or how many excuses you make. And it doesn't matter if you've been married a year, 10 years, 20 years-- what? Are we still talking about will and Sonny? Did you call him? No, Sonny didn't call. I did. I wanted to explain why I felt responsible for what happened between you and me. I can imagine that conversation. You know, you play martyr the same way you pitch, Paul-- fast and cutting corners. You promised that you'd stay away from Sonny, but you call him anyway. You go sneaking behind my back-- stop, will. Stop it! I'm gonna leave you two alone. Hey, Paul. Whoa, hey, this is perfect. I'm glad I found you all together.
Clint wasn't even close to being good enough for me. I am younger and smarter and way better-looking than him. And you know what, I'm way better off without his sorry ass. I don't need a man to feel good about myself.
[Knocking on door]
[Exhales] Maybe it's Clint.
What are you thinking about? Um, I'm just, uh-- I'm just trying to put something together in my head. About whether Theresa was thinking she was pregnant? Maybe I was engaging Theresa, and I shouldn't be. Maybe this is a lot more painful for her than I even realize. Really? That's what you were going to say? (Maggie) oh, sorry. Oh, Melanie and I were going shopping. Is everything all right with you two? Well, apparently, I am being stood up by your father. He's still out of town on a business meeting for another night. Oh. Oh, Kate, about what you said before... Abigail knows what kind of person Chad is. Of course she does. She was hurt very badly by him and his brother, EJ. Exactly. Look, Chad is a DiMera. DiMeras have a way of getting exactly what they want. Good night.
[Sighs] That's great. I'm--I'm really glad to hear that the board is-- is addressing the blood supply issue, so we don't have, you know, another close call or--or worse, like we did with Sonny. - Yeah, it is very important... - yes. Obviously, that it doesn't happen again. Right. Also, um, you should know that we're all pretty high on your project. We've all agreed, and you are doing a fantastic job. Well, that is very nice to hear, Chad. Thank you. Yeah, okay, well, passing along the feedback. - Take care. - Oh, Chad. I-I set up a time with Theo to go rollerblading.
[Laughs] Well, that will mean the world to him. You'll have fun. Yeah, okay.
[Sighs] You've been very kind to me, Lucas, and I appreciate that. But our sons are married, and your son really hurt mine. I just don't see how we can ignore that. Guess we can't. I'm glad you agree. But it doesn't have to ruin what we have. You know, it doesn't-- doesn't have to ruin our friendship. I better get going. Now, what I was hoping was that perhaps TBD could furnish the refreshments for the benefit. - Yeah, it's not a problem. - Yes. (John) listen, you guys have done so much. I'm so glad you're gonna be there to see just how good this is for the kids. Listen, I got to go. Oh, oh, I got to mention that I spoke to Marlena, and I want to apologize if this is awkward for the two of you in any way, shape, or form. Awkward? Well, maybe not the best word. Just that Marlena looked at the date of the benefit, and she reminded me that it's on your first wedding anniversary.
Everything's fine with us. Head over heels. So we have that cleared up. Okay, well, um, you just take your time saying good-byes. Um, I got to get my purse upstairs if we intend to buy out all the stores. Okay. You're not telling me something. Brady-- and you're not ready to, so I'm going to back off, and I'm gonna give you time, okay?
[Sighs] I do love you.
[Mouths words] Mel... all this stuff with Theresa, um... you want it to stop. Okay, it will. I get it. Well, I just feel like I need to apologize. I'm so sorry that I cut you short earlier because you seemed so over the moon, but now-- obviously, clearly, something is very wrong. No. It's just the same old.
[Chuckles] Same old what, honey? Another guy, another dirty stomp out. I'm just pissed because he beat me to the punch. Oh, are we talking about Clint? Yes, Clint! Oh, honey. You know what really sucks, eve, is that I didn't have a chance to throw him out the door and then toss his stuff out the window after his loser ass. You know, he is a creep. He is hateful and awful. Aww. Damn it.
[Electronic music] - Hi. - Hey. Sorry I'm late. - No, no. Mwah. - Hi. Worked out fine. Told Rafe I'd close up, and we had a busy run about, I don't know, an hour or so ago. Oh, really? Seems like it's slowed down a bit now. Yeah, I can finally take a little break. - Come on. - Good. Thanks. (Ben) sit down. What's with all the paperwork? Oh, uh, charity project. Oh, yeah. Yeah. What's this? Oh, um, these are some new quotes about my dad's book. Ah. They were online, and so I printed them out for my mom and JJ. These are great. Yeah, they are. Makes me miss him a lot.
[Clears throat] What? These quotes-- Chad emailed them to you. So Stefano used me and Victor to boot me out of the company.
[Clears throat] Now the whole town is laughing at my expense. Well, I still can't believe that Stefano pulled the wool over Victor's eyes so completely. I mean, he does know your weaknesses a lot better. Well, it doesn't really matter how it happened. The point is, he succeeded.
[Sighs] So what's next? I'm not sure. But I'm not taking it lying down. Come on, mom. Even you have to admit that this whole DiMera thing, you know, didn't have any legs with you in charge. What are you ta-- no, I don't have to admit that. I had that company humming, and that's after Kristen and then Sami almost took it down singlehandedly. Well, he probably considers it payback. I mean, you loved stealing his company from him, didn't you? Yes, I did. So? So how is what he did to you any worse than what you did to him? I will tell you why. Because he had it coming. You know, the great thing about this benefit is that you and Sonny are gonna know just about everybody there, so I think there might be an outside chance that everybody can do a little toast to the happy couple on their first anniversary. Let me handle it all. Thanks again. I'll see you soon. Okay, see you. Your anniversary is tomorrow. Yep. You'll be right there to celebrate it with us.
[Melanie laughs] They'll like it, right? Yes, absolutely. They will love it. How could they not? All right, spill. You and Brady were not right before, I mean, despite telling me everything was okay, and just now you were a million miles away. So, sweetheart, what's going on? I can't stop thinking about when Brady was attacked. I mean, it's one thing that he was drugged, but it's so awful and strange that somebody took his-- took his blood. And at first I thought maybe Theresa was behind it. Theresa? Why would she-- and now it's-- I know it's crazy, but now I think it's even more complicated than that, grandma. I really think something bigger is going on. I think you might be right because, as you said, it's not just awful, but it's very strange. But why would Theresa or anyone else want Brady's blood?
[Sighs] Oh, Dad.
[John sighs] Hey, I just heard what happened. I'm fine. Yeah, just-- just drugged and robbed. But now I'm fine. I can see that. You don't know how relieved I am, but I got to ask you, why did I have to hear about this from somebody else?
[Clicks tongue] I told you before, will, and I'll tell you again. As soon as the benefit's over, I'm gone. I will be leaving Salem. I'll see you both tomorrow. How much you want to bet that, after the benefit, he's gonna find another reason to stay in Salem? What if he did, will? What if he-- do you want him to? What I want is to understand how you think we have a marriage worth fighting for if you don't think it could survive Paul Narita being in the same area code as us! Sonny, he is not going to walk away. He is gonna keep coming after you again and again and-- what are you saying, will? You think I'm gonna fall right back in bed with him? Is that what you think? - Sonny-- - that was you. You did this to us, not me.
[Sighs] You--you really have a gift. You know that? You manage to justify all your actions and your motives, no matter what the hell they are, and then you demonize everybody else who doesn't kowtow to you. Honey, I am so pleased with how you're doing at mad world. You know, Victor is too. Oh, thanks. Guess we're changing the subject now. You know, you are doing an excellent job. However, I have to tell you, there are a few-- there are a few divisions that are underperforming. And you know that new sunscreen line that's launching? I have a few ideas about that. I think I'm gonna reach out to Victor. Oh, my God. What? You're unbelievable. You're gonna ask Victor to offer you your old job back, aren't you?
Yes, yes, Chad emailed them to me. I didn't know about the website, and-- right, right. Ben, come on, seriously. It's so not a big deal, all right? Chad read my dad's book, and he loved it, and that's all. He knows how much my dad's legacy means to me and to my family. Fine. Is everything else okay? With me? Yeah. I had kind of a crazy day today, but... oh, my God, you had that test, right? I'm sorry, I didn't even ask you. How did it go? I'm pretty sure I nailed it. Really? That surprises you? W-well, I'm surprised that you don't seem more excited about it. I'm happy about it, for sure. It's just that I kind of had something else on my mind, Abigail. I thought maybe I'd have an answer by now. But then again, maybe you're just trying to avoid the fact that I asked you to move in with me.
I don't know what's going on or if Theresa is even involved. It's just... just what? When I got to know Theresa a little bit and I realized what kind of person she was, you know, cold and heartless, I saw her at the hospital, and she had this baby rattle. And I had never seen her like this before. She--she was so vulnerable and so sad. And I just-- I kind of felt what she was feeling because I've been there kind of before. I understand how you feel. But Theresa only thought she was pregnant. I mean, the home test that she supposedly took was a false positive. Now, Brady took her to the hospital, and she had another test. And they confirmed that she was not carrying his child.
[Chuckles] What on earth does any of this have to do with Brady getting assaulted or his blood being drawn? I don't know. I-I have no idea, but I honestly feel like this has something to do with Theresa's pregnancy scare.
[Sighs] Well, I do know she's not over-- she's not over this experience, and she's definitely not over Brady. But in a million years, I can't see her having him harmed or his blood taken.
[Chuckles] Yeah, no, I'm sure-- you're probably right. I mean, now that I say it out loud instead of it just all being just up here, it sounds crazy. Oh, slightly.
[Both laugh] I think things are just going so well with Brady that maybe I'm doing that thing where I sabotage it. Well, cut it out. - Okay. - [Laughs]
[Phone rings] Oh. Oh, Sarah.
[Chuckles] Well, funny she should reach out now that-- all this talk about babies. Funny how?
[Sighs] We're batting something around. She wanted my advice. About a baby? A friend of hers approached Sarah about being a surrogate. I guess the friend can't carry to term, and, um, Sarah's considering it. That's how you had Sarah. Right? Yes. The best decision of my life. She knows that. Yeah. - But it's a personal call. - Of course. You know, she has to make this decision on her own. A child is a blessing, you know, no matter how he or she comes into your life. A blessing I hope for you someday, sweetie. If that's what you want. I should probably think about the future, right? Whatever that entails, instead of worrying about all this drama that doesn't even concern me.
[Theresa chuckles] Oh, I just can't stop crying, eve, and I don't know why. I've just--
[Sighs] I've been so emotional lately. It's embarrassing. Well, come on. Breakups hurt, honey. But Clint was a loser, eve. Well, yeah. I mean, he was so not even close to Mr. Right. I mean, he was barely Mr. Right now. And I-I had it, you know? I-I had him in perspective. But I just-- I just keep getting left, eve. It just seems like that. - No, it is that way! - No-- Theresa, come on. You are gonna find someone eventually. You will. Someone that deserves you.
[Sighs] I just-- I don't really know what to do in the meantime, eve. I mean, how do I get through this? You know all of this isn't about Clint, don't you? Yeah, I know that. Okay. I just-- I have this-- this, um-- I don't really know-- I don't know what the right word is-- this ache for something. But I don't know what it is.
[Theresa crying] Yeah, I know what it is. What is it? It's love. Isn't that what we all want? Look, dad, I'm-- I'm sorry. You shouldn't have heard what happened to me from Abe, but just so you know, I didn't tell Victor either. I had a very good reason for keeping this on the down low. Which was what? I didn't want to worry anybody. And you didn't want me in your business, and you didn't want my judgments, and you didn't want my lectures. You told me you wouldn't do that anymore, and I believe you. But I would have wanted to be there for you. Dad, Dad, I handled it, and everything's okay, and everything's all good. Seriously, I can't believe that you would think I would go back to mad world after being CEO of DiMera. You would in a heartbeat, and you'd kick me to the curb so fast, and you'd use it as leverage to get revenge on Stefano yet again. - You're my son. - Mm-hmm. Yeah, I know, and you love me, but you're not above using me to get power. When have I ever done that? I don't know. There's a first time for everything, isn't there? And I'm actually very happy with what I'm doing at mad world right now, especially happy not having to answer to you. - [Scoffs] - And you know what? I intend to keep it that way.
Ben, don't you think we should talk about this in private? Is that what we're gonna do? Talk? Well, you said that you wanted to talk about-- you asked me to give you time to think about moving in together. I know. But maybe you're so busy emailing Chad, you kind of forgot to-- what? I wasn't emailing Chad, okay? God, Ben, you know what? I'm--I'm sorry, but Chad did something really nice for me. Oh, my God, Abigail, Chad is a DiMera. He doesn't do nice, okay? He always has an agenda, and with you, he totally knows how to push your buttons. And what is that supposed to mean? Come on. Isn't it obvious? This whole thing with your dad's book-- he knows how much that means to you. He knows how to get to you. You know what, at least he actually read the damn book. Yeah? Did EJ read it too? These profit numbers look really good, Sonny. We're way up from last month, and-- that's great. I'm glad. To change the subject of TBD for a minute, I just came from a hospital board meeting, and we're changing the entire policy on the blood bank because of what happened to you. Really? You came--you came really close to not making it, man. If they hadn't gotten a donor with your blood type... (Chad) you okay? Yeah, I just gave blood, so I'm woozy. Oh, h-ho-- I know who saved your life. What? How could you-- it was Paul Narita. He was the donor. Oh, hi. Oh, Paul, hi. You know, I'm really glad I ran into you. I felt really bad about the last time that I saw you. That was a really horrible way for you to find out about what happened between will and me. For what it's worth, I-- I know you had no idea who will was. I didn't. So why are you still in Salem? I made a commitment to a benefit, but I'm gonna be gone as soon as it's over. Good. Mrs. Kiriakis, I want you to know that I never meant to cause any problems for Sonny, to hurt him again. And I know that's exactly what I did.
[Clears throat] I will make that son of a bitch sorry that he ever set foot in Salem.
That was totally out of line. Abigail, you know--you know I didn't mean it like that. Yeah, I know exactly how you meant it, Ben. You know I would never bring him up like that. - Abigail... - no. - Abigail. - Hey, Ben. I have a really angry table in the back. - Can't you just tell them to-- - really angry. They want the manager. So I saw Paul, and he said that he had just given blood. You know, I didn't put it together at the time, but, you know, I just came from this board meeting, and they said you only had one donor. Oh, my God. Now that you have Paul Narita's blood pumping through those veins, I mean, you got to be on the softball team this spring. I mean, do you think that Paul and will even know it was you? Have you even met the guy? He's actually kind of terrific. He's really approachable. Hey.
[Snaps fingers] Psst. You okay? I mean, looks like you could use another pint. I'm fine. I'm just, uh, tired. Well, just don't push it too hard. Why don't you take off, and I'll take care of things the rest of the night? Okay? Paul, now that Sonny's back in town, I'm really hoping that will and Sonny can make things work, and I honestly think it would be easier for them if you weren't in Salem. You know, I wish I would've met you a little sooner, when I was with Sonny. Why's that?
[Chuckles] Just seeing how supportive you are of your son, of who he is. Maybe things would've turned out a little differently. (Will) you'd better go away when you said you would. Because if you don't, everyone will see this, and they will know who you really are. I know that you can take care of things, kid. And it makes me proud that you accept responsibility for your mistakes, and you've taken charge of your own life. In fact, I'm trying to do exactly the same thing. - I've noticed. - Yeah. Especially where Marlena's concerned. I'm sure I'm stating the obvious here, but that girl's the love of my life, always will be. I think we're making some progress. - I'm glad to hear that. - Yeah. Perhaps you and I and Melanie and doc can all get together for dinner some night? I mean, all's good with you two, right? All is good. Yeah, we are-- we are really happy together.
Okay, "projecting a child's future medical concerns "from the blood of the parents: Science or science fiction?"
[Laughs] No, love-- I don't-- I don't believe in love, eve. Only, I-- only what? I just-- I feel like I'm missing something. I just can't figure out what it is. Okay, so I guess, I mean, this could be why Clint would draw blood from Brady and Theresa. So the child, I guess, they thought they didn't have, if it's still out there-- I mean, I guess the science is here, so if they took the fertilized egg from Theresa and maybe somebody else carried it to term... like a surrogate, that-- no. No, this is absurd.
