I want to thank you again for representing my boy.
Actually enjoyed it. Once Chad DiMera confirmed he wasn't going to be pressing charges, all the DA could do was bluff, so... they said he was gonna--
they would call that DiMera kid as a hostile witness?
That's right. A hostile, unsympathetic witness with the last name of DiMera.
The way you say that, "the last name of DiMera," people around here, they really got it in for that family, don't they?
That's a bit of an understatement.
Why is that?
Hope: do you have all day?
Harold, I'll have someone pick up those trunks tomorrow.
Oh, you don't have to move out quite yet.
[Kate sighs] Well, I don't think your father would agree with that.
He got what he wanted. He doesn't care if you stay just a little bit longer.
I'm surprised you're still working for him after he publicly humiliated you.
Of course it was in public. Where's the fun in humiliating somebody in private? Besides, he just demoted me. Not quite as bad the number as he did on you.
He's not my father.
Well, the way I see it, I was gonna get screwed one way or another, either by him or by you.
aren't you the picture of domesticity? Shh.
Who doesn't have a hand mixer?
You don't need a hand mixer to order in.
What are you making?
I am making a special recipe for muffins--oh. Do you have any, um, candied ginger?
I ran out yesterday.
Okay. Well, it's optional.
You know what I remember about you baking is, when you bake, you like to celebrate. Is there something that we're celebrating?
As a matter of fact, there is.
[Cell phone rings]
Daniel, where are you?
Okay, Nicole, I'm still at the hospital. I need to release a patient.
Okay, Nicole, listen--
(Nicole) here's what I don't get. You said "patient" just now instead of "Brady." You took care of him last night, you spent hours with me, and you never even said his name. Why are you shutting me out of your life?
I'm dressed. I'm getting released, so it seemed like a good idea.
Aw, see, I was hoping I could help get you out of that hospital gown.
Mmm, mmm. Much as I like that idea, I want to get out of here. Can we change the venue, please?
Yes, um, yeah. I'll have my dad sign your release form, and we can get you home.
And get back to trying to figure out who did this to you.
Clint: so did you tell Kristen DiMera I got the blood from Brady black? And she's okay with me waiting till today to get some of Theresa's, right? No, I have to change the mo, so no one makes the connection between her and what I did to black. She won't remember a thing. I have it all set. Just as soon as sleeping beauty wakes up.
Mmm. Brady, make love to me. Ugh.
[Groans] What the--
good morning. Don't you look like bloody hell.
You didn't even say Brady's name, and don't give me that doctor-patient confidentiality baloney. Brady is my friend, and I care about him. And it hurts that, yet again, you are withholding from me.
You know what? I need to go. You can keep talking if you want, because apparently, you know what I think about everything, so it's not really necessary for me to say anything.
Daniel, damn it. You're just putting up another wall, and I don't like it.
Look, I'm giving you another 30 minutes, and then I'm out of here.
[Sighs] Trouble in paradise?
You know, it's not polite to listen in on other people's conversations.
So make my day. Tell me that Daniel is giving you the old heave-ho.
[Chuckles] You know, I do like your honesty. You don't even deny the fact that you were gunning for me.
Well, if you like honesty so much, why don't you admit that you were gunning for me as well? I know you were going to get rid of me after the board meeting.
[Laughs] My God. I wasn't going to poison you, all right? And we both know you've been out for number one ever since you got back to Salem.
You and I are very much alike. What is it you say? It's not personal, it's just... - business.
Business. But not in this case. What your father did to me was very, very personal.
So, you see, I went over to Theresa's house, and she was with her loser boyfriend. And when I told her that you were hurt, she was genuinely surprised and concerned. And the whole thing could've been just a performance, but I managed to get out of there without giving her any details.
Well, aren't you gonna praise me on my restraint and open-mindedness and-- I mean, I feel like that was remarkable.
Melanie, look, I want you to take this restraint thing, I want you to run with it. I want you to accept it. Stay away from Theresa, please. I'm not telling you. I'm asking you, okay?
Okay. As long as you keep what I did between us?
All right, deal.
[Knocking on door]
Brady: hi. Any more information on how or why this was done?
Uh, yeah, yeah. There is--there is more.
Theresa: GH! God, why didn't you wake me up? I'm gonna be late for work.
Call in sick.
Yeah, um, I can't. Look, I just-- I'd love to, but I-- they're gonna start double-docking my pay at work. I've used up my sick days. Where is my purse? I'm going to be so late!
Clint: How much Tabasco do you like?
Ugh, I need aspirin. Oh, my God, I have a headache.
What you need is the hair of the dog. Come on, baby. Trust me.
Hope, do you know Clyde Weston?
Mr. Weston. I am so sorry, didn't mean to interrupt.
Please call me Clyde. I do not stand on ceremony. I'm afraid I'm the one doing the interrupting here. I just stopped by to settle up and to thank this gentleman. He took such good care of my boy.
So I heard. It sounds like you're no fan of the DiMera clan either, huh?
Well, I have still have some hope for Chad. He did drop the charges, right?
Yeah, but, uh... I don't know. He seems pretty shifty to me. He basically admitted he goaded Ben into throwing that punch, and I don't like the way he handled himself around my stepdaughter either.
Mr. Weston, may I make a suggestion? Go online, check out the family history. Chad ends up looking like captain America compared to the rest of them.
Huh, well, I just hope he stays away from my family from now on. Listen, I won't take any more of your time, not with this lovely lady here, but, uh, I would like to get back to you about that charity project I set up...
yeah. With Jordan and Abigail Deveraux.
Sure, sure. Is everything okay?
Yeah, it's going great.
Okay. But, you know, these days, you can't even give money away without needing a lawyer. Really pleased to meet you, detective Brady.
[Door opens and closes]
Well, I guess he knows who you are.
I don't think that guy misses much.
[With southern accent] But golly.
[Chuckles] Come on. All that Mayberry RFD stuff, do you buy it? I mean, any of it?
You know what...
I'm more interested in?
Chad: really? After everything you and Sami have tried to pull off over the last nine months, you're complaining that you got kicked off the board?
Uh-huh. I was doing a damn good job of CEO of that company, and there's no way they're gonna do better under Stefano. I just don't get it.
How much money is enough, Kate?
[Laughs] If you have to ask that question, then you don't know business at all.
No hard feelings?
Not towards you.
Glad to hear. But I do hope to see you around.
You gonna tell me what we're celebrating?
Something big happened last night.
Well, that clears everything up. Did this big thing happen while you were out with Melanie?
Why do I get the feeling you know we were talking about you?
Well, then you're gonna be disappointed 'cause it's not about that. I finished the first draft of my research.
Daniel is not giving me the old heave-ho. Au contraire... Daniel and I are getting closer, really close. As a matter of fact, last night, I gave him a shave.
You know. Hot lather. Long, slow strokes. He loved it.
He let you come at him with a razor?
Mm-hmm. He was putty in my hands.
No, no, no. Last night, you threw everything you had at him, and in the cold light of day, he's shutting you out of his life. He knows what happens to men when they let you get your talons into 'em. It's sort of akin to Ebola. No. He's not gonna ever let you get close enough to shave or hurt him again.
And all the other blood tests and lab work came up negative except for the tranquilizer I confirmed yesterday.
Yeah, look. I am really sorry about my initial reaction. Your--
Daniel, your initial reaction made perfect sense. On more than one occasion, I've given everyone reason to think the worst of me.
Okay, so, if there wasn't anything else in his system then why did he have a puncture wound in both of his arms?
Well, I spoke with Maria. She's the nurse who, uh, drew your blood for the lab test. And I asked her if she had to try twice to find a vein or something and forgot to record it... well, no--I-- I mean, she's new, but she wants to do a really good job, so if she said she didn't do it, she didn't do it and-- there's gotta be another explanation.
Oh, Maria, how nice of you to finally make it. You know, I don't think you're getting off to a great start, you know? You're already late with your hr report.
[Sighs] Sorry. - I--
yeah. I give deadlines for a reason. Okay? So, thanks to you, the entire department had to come to a screeching halt.
Well, it's just last night, there was--
oh, last night, you were overwhelmed, right? Yeah... again, not a promising start. Your job, Maria, is not to be overwhelmed. Okay? Especially when we have a board member admitted to the hospital.
Who was it?
Uh, I'm supposed to keep it a secret.
Okay, yeah, okay, that means you keep it out of the press. Okay? But I am senior staff and I need to know. Unless, you want to be thought of as uncooperative, as well as chronically late.
But they said that---
which is fine-- it's okay--I don't really-- I don't care--don't tell me. Don't tell me.
Uh, if you can excuse me, I--I need to put some notes into your permanent file. Okay?
It was Brady black.
You know this is gonna make you feel good. You know that I'm gonna make you feel good, too.
[Laughs] Call them and tell them you're under me. I mean, under the weather.
Oh, I would love to. That sounds great. But, um--but I was gonna find out what happened to Brady. That bitch, Melanie, wouldn't tell me anything. - So...
Why do you care what happened to Brady? You hate him. You said you did.
So what's it gonna be? Work... or play?
[Laughs] Where's my phone?
Where the hell are you?
Home...look, I'm not feeling that great.
Please do not give me that crap again. Guess what I just found out. Brady black was admitted to the hospital last night.
Anne) yup! They're trying to keep it all hush hush. But something's going on with him. Something huge.
Why do I get the feeling that you don't think this is something to celebrate?
Not if it means you're going to leave.
Eric, I haven't decided about that. And I'm not going to for some--for some time. After last night, I think that things are looking better and better. I'm--I'm kind of starting to believe that things are gonna work out for me. And for you. Just the way I'd hoped.
Does that mean you're happy?
'Cause I knew this place would kind of grow on you.
Yes... except for...
I know what--I know what you're gonna say. Except for Nicole.
You are a vile man. Always banging about family, family, family, but it's more fun for you to get in my face about something that is none of your business, instead of seeing if Brady needs you.
What's Brady got to do with it?
You don't know?
No, I was in Chicago. What's going on? Is he all right?
I--uh, he's fine. He was the patient that Daniel was talking about releasing.
He's in the hospital?
Yeah, well, I mean, they said it was top secret, but I thought for sure that you'd know.
I don't know, he was mugged or drugged or something last night. But, like I said, he's gonna be fine. Daniel isn't worried about him.
No, he should be worried about me.
Nice to see you, too, jerk.
[Sighs] Well, Daniel, your half hour was up 15 minutes ago.
[Gasps] Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh. Why don't you watch where you're--
I am so sorry.
Oh, I'm not.
I was going through last year's calendar trying to pinpoint a meeting I had with a, uh, a client. And then I remembered what you and I were doing on this day last year.
We didn't know each other very well.
Well, you thought you knew me very, very well.
Uh-oh. Enough to chronicle all my faults to Kayla, just making sure that she would never be interested in going out with someone like me. In fact, you went into some detail.
Mm-hmm. Gosh, I am so glad you remembered that, Mr. Jennings.
Yes, yes. Okay, yes, let's celebrate how I made a complete, complete fool of myself.
Well, I just remember thinking, "oh, what a shame. "Such a beautiful woman yet so insufferable." You know, I was having a lot more fun when we were kissing and not talking.
yeah. See, I look back and I realize that a part of me was crazy about you even then. I liked how you spoke your mind. Loudly. Very, very loudly.
You heard every word. And I also think...
That a part of you is crazy about me too.
Well... hold on a second. No! You are delusional. Delu--well--let-- well--no, no, no, no. Let's--let's think about this, okay? Even then you were doing everything you could to make sure I'd be interested in no other woman besides you, so... delusional and imperious. Loud and insufferable.
Sounds to me...
[Laughs] Like we are a match made in heaven.
Let's go celebrate.
Yeah. Let's go.
I mean, I can't stop thinking about the fact that whoever tranquilized Brady took his blood for some reason.
Yeah, I think it was just a robbery. I mean, they took my money.
Abe is talking to Henderson right now to see if there's anything valuable from the house that's missing.
Okay, but a robbery doesn't explain this.
Yeah, she's got--
what the hell happened? And why didn't anybody tell me about it?
Yeah, I already knew he was in the hospital, but I didn't know why.
Well, nobody does, not yet. They kept him over night, they're gonna do some drug testing.
No, I don't believe that. He wouldn't. Look, is he okay?
Why do you care?
I don't. I hate him.
[Laughs] All right, well, whether you care or not, he's gonna be going home in, like, five minutes. Oh... well, anyway, um... I really am feeling sick so I'm gonna be in bed all day.
All right, li--listen-- will you just listen? I think she's lying about being sick, but not about staying in bed all day.
You know I, uh--
[Clears throat] I'm really glad to have this time with you, and I hate that we had to cancel last night.
You don't have to be--
but we can blame that on Stefano. Like almost everything else wrong with the world. I just, I can't believe that judge put a stay on the warrant for his arrest. It's hard to believe.
No, not really. Not when you think about it. I mean, Stefano's scum-sucking lawyers are--
oh, this isn't going so well, sorry. Uh, I probably shouldn't be calling lawyers scum-sucking in front of you.
What--you--no, no, no, no, no, some of us are, so...
but not you.
Well, don't you worry, 'cause I would never - defend someone like...
hello... say, hope, I am-- I am just so sorry about what happened the other day. Sorry...
sorry that your father evaded arrest yet again? Really, Chad?
[Clears throat] Well...this is quite a surprise.
You've been trying to avoid me.
[Sighs] I most certainly have not. I have been busy... with the fallout from the board meeting and my enforced relocation.
Come on, Kate. I know exactly why you didn't want to see me.
I'm sorry that I brought Nicole up while we were having such a nice morning.
I thought I brought her up.
No, you knew what I was thinking. Ay...
she just-- she got on to me again last night. After you told her about the elephants.
Did you two get in another fight?
No, but she would've been happy if we had.
[Sighs] I know what she can be like. And I'm sorry if she took it out on you. She was in a pretty bad mood last night.
Eric, you don't need to make excuses for her. I don't like her. Never will.
Serena, I hope your wanting to leave Salem has nothing to do with Nicole. Because I just want you to know that Nicole and I are over.
Ah! Oh! Let me buy you a cup of coffee.
And send me the dry cleaning bill, please.
You really don't have to do that.
No, I insist. Here. Here's, uh-- here's my card.
So, how about that coffee? It looks like we could both use some, huh?
Um... oh... thanks. And, by the way, I'm not gonna send you a bill for anything. That was just an accident.
Oh...then, why did you take my card?
So I can call you. Is that all right with you?
Do you know how it felt to find out - about this from Nicole?
Granddad, listen. Listen, you were away. There was nothing you could do - but worry.
It's not your call! I need to know everything! I mean, everything, that goes on in this family.
Okay, Victor, how about dialing it down? You're gonna upset yourself. It's bad for your blood pressure.
And you, of all people. What the hell were you thinking?
[Groans] That drink went straight to my head.
No, I slept all night.
[Laughs] You partied all night. Come on. Let's get you back to bed.
I know that, Eric. I know that you and Nicole are ancient history. I just wanna make sure.
[Egg timer goes off]
Like I said, I'm sorry that I brought it up.
Oh! There's your grandma!
Hi. Mmm...something smells wonderful.
Ah! Hi, Serena.
Aha! Caroline, hi. Uh, the coffee is over on the counter and make sure you eat the muffins while they're hot. Oh, are you leaving now?
Yeah, I'm gonna give you guys some time alone. Plus, I've got to take care of some things.
Well, you have got to come to the pub. Now promise!
I will, definitely. Because I can't keep away from you or your famous chowder.
[Laughs] See ya later.
All right. Hey...
I just wanted to say I'm really glad things are back to being good.
Actually, great, between us.
Me too, Eric. Me too.
Uh, are--are you asking me out?
That's the general idea. I don't see a ring and I hope you'd at least think about it.
I am, uh--I'm-- I'm sort of seeing someone.
But I wish he thought so.
You know what? I'm gonna hold on to this. Maybe next time I catch you, you'll be more open to the idea.
I'm sorry. I-I really think it's gonna work out between this guy and me. But, thank you anyway.
Well, a man can always dream, right? Hmm...
uh, trust me. Kate and I were just as surprised as you were that my father showed up to that board meeting.
Then I imagine you were also surprised when he gave her the boot and demoted you.
Yeah...it's just as well. Yeah, I wasn't ready for that kind of responsibility. Not yet, at least. I still have a lot to learn.
From Stefano? There's nothing to learn from Stefano. Except, of course, all the wrong things.
I think you're avoiding me 'cause of what happened at that board meeting. That was just business.
Maybe... but I know you and I know the pride that you take in your work. And that whole thing doesn't make any sense. I mean, look at the bottom line. That company was on fire with you in charge and that sob just waltzes in and kicks you out?
Yeah... well... I should've seen it coming, though. Stefano is legendary for his patience so he just waited until I became complacent, and then he attacked.
Yeah... but, you know, what really bugs me is that I fell for it. But then again, Victor fell for it, too.
Victor? Kiriakis? What does he have to do with it?
Right in this very hospital! You stood here and you didn't know if Sonny was gonna live or die. Attacked by assailant unknown. The same thing happens to Brady and you don't make any connection?
Okay, not the same thing.
Oh, if he had been stabbed, would you have let me know then?
Same crime, different weapon!
I swear, for a smart guy you can be a real moron.
Okay, you know what? I'm really tired of you just barging around, barking orders to cover up that you're scared. If someone is going after your family members, it's because of something you have done.
This is not helping anybody, okay? What we need to do, right now, is get Brady home so he can rest. Not so he can sit here and watch you two go at it!
She's right. She's right, that sounds good.
If you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go sign my release form.
Hold--just--uh... I know you're scared. I know you're upset. I was too. But right now, all we have to do is get Brady home so he can rest.
Right. So I can know that he's safe.
If you're gonna be mad, be mad at me, okay? I'm the one that told everybody to keep this thing quiet. I knew how worried you would be.
So you said.
Okay, uh, I'm going to take this stuff upstairs.
Coward. That's--no--he is your grandfather. Not--not mine.
Okay. If I-- if I promise to tell you next time I get drugged, will you not yell?
Brady, this is not funny! After what happened to Sonny, nothing is funny.
Sonny--come on, you don't think that's related? You do, don't you? You think these things are related.
I don't know. But we're going to proceed as if they were.
Kiriakis just played right into Stefano's hands?
Well, I think Victor-- I think he was kind of off his game after what happened to his nephew.
Right. Well, I know how I'd be if one of my family got attacked like that.
But I'm so sorry what happened to you.
You know, you're right. That is why I didn't call. Because I was embarrassed and I was angry and I just didn't want to see anyone.
I hope you know I'm not just anyone.
Well, I can see why you might think my father would be a bad influence.
Abe has actually been warning me about that too, lately.
Yeah. Chad's--uh, Lexie's brother, Theo's uncle. Abe thinks of him as family.
Which is exactly why he does not want you following in your dear father's footsteps, Chad.
Ah... well, I'm gonna keep that in mind. But, for the record, I can handle my father.
Famous last words. No one can handle your father, Chad.
He should really think about his siblings. Kristen's the female version of Stefano and the rest are dead.
Honestly, Aiden, if I were one of his kids, I would be very, very, very careful.
So, you're a journalist, huh? Well, that must be fascinating. What's your favorite story you've ever covered?
Nicole) oh...well, uh...
[Cell phone rings]
So, you've never seen me on air?
Sorry. Never laid eyes on you until just now. Maybe if we'd met each other sooner, under different circumstances, I might have had a chance.
Sorry, I have to go.
Let me just say, I have never enjoyed having something spilt on me quite this much.
Maybe we'll see each other around.
Hey, I, uh-- I didn't get your name.
But I got yours. Nice to meet you, Nicole walker.
Ah! Sorry, uh, who--who was that?
Oh, just a guy I bumped into...literally.
He looked a little familiar. Uh, so were you talking to him about a story or something?
No, I don't know anything about him. At all.
Well, then why did you give him your card?
You're really worried about Chad, aren't you?
I still think there's hope for him. At least, I want to believe there is.
And why do you care?
It'd be nice if the DiMera heir were finally a decent person.
Well, you do realize, don't you, that you can't save everyone? Although, I am very glad that you chose to save me.
I didn't save you.
Well, if you hadn't given me a second chance, my son and I might be on the run forever. So, thanks to you, we have a new home. A new life. So, for that, and so many other reasons, I love you.
I just want you to know I'm in your corner. I know you're gonna fight and come out even stronger.
Well, it's not the first time I've had to pick myself up and dust myself off and I do have a lot I could do. But the first thing on my agenda is to make sure that Stefano is very, very sorry for what he did to me.
[Laughs] Besides all her other accomplishments, Serena's now a master muffin maker.
[Laughs] Yeah. She's quite a good young woman.
You're preaching to the choir. I'm pretty crazy about her.
Well... after Nicole, I, uh... I'm glad that you're moving on.
Uh... it's a long story.
Well, I've, uh, I've got time.
Oh, my God. You're jealous.
No. No, no, no. I am not jealous.
[Laughs] Well, you should be, because that guy knows how to treat a woman.
Hello, Serena. I wanted to tell you in person that I'm tired of what's been going on. Very, very tired.
Victor) let me make this clear. If anything remotely like this happens again, you let me know at once.
I promise. But I don't think it will.
You don't know that.
No, but I have been thinking about it. How do you explain that whoever did this to me went out of their way to make sure I wasn't hurt?
Clint) sleep well, princess. You're going to be out cold for at least the next couple of hours. And that's all the time I need. "Sorry, baby, "you were really wiped out and I had to split. "It was fun while it lasted, but all good things must come to an end."
[Grunts] Sorry, uh--
