Hope: I miss you, too. I can't wait to see you tomorrow. I will, I promise. I love you, too. See you tomorrow.
Aiden: Was that my buddy?
Hope: She made me promise to say hi to you.
Aiden: Aww. I talked to chase today, too.
Hope: How is he doing?
Aiden: He said they're having a great time. But I think they're both ready to come home. And for the first time, this place really does feel like home.
Abigail: So, tell me, how's your first night going?
Rafe: He's doing great, that's how.
Rafe: And you know what? Victor was a genius to hire him.
Ben: Somebody I know twisted his arm.
Abigail: I did not twist his arm.
Ben: I don't know what else would make that guy hire a bartender with assault charges hanging over his head.
Rafe: Well, maybe he knew that Chad set you up.
Abigail: Okay, listen. Chad tried to drop the charges, and he promised that he would do whatever he can to fix this, okay?
Rafe: Right, yeah, I know. We all know what a DiMera promise is worth.
Chad: How are you?
Chad: Uh, I've missed you.
Jordan: I guess that's why I haven't heard a word from you. You missed me so much.
Chad: Look, I was actually just trying to give you space. Now that you know what I did to Ben, I figured it should be up to you to decide if we had a future or not.
Jordan: We should probably talk.
Chad: Great. How about after I visit sonny?
Kate: Oh, I think you should have that talk now, since you're not getting in to see sonny.
Paul: This is my mother, Tori Narita. Mom, this is Dr. Marlena Evans.
Paul: Mom, are you all right?
Tori: Oh, um, I didn't realize how hot the cup was. Look what I've done.
Paul: Don't--don't worry about it.
Tori: No, it's--it's quite all right. Forgive me, Dr. Evans. I'm not usually this clumsy.
Marlena: Well, no--no. No problem at all. I-I--it's just so nice to meet you, Mrs. Narita. You must be so proud of your son for owning who he is.
Sonny: You slept with Paul Narita, and it's my fault?
Will: That's not what I meant.
Sonny: Then what do you mean, will? Tell me, what do you mean?
Will: That if I had any idea that you knew Paul, or especially that you were in love--
Sonny: What? That you'd be so afraid of me finding out that you wouldn't have cheated on me?
Hope: I'm so glad you're feeling better.
Aiden: That is an understatement. Hope, for you to know chase's part in his mom's death, and--and your promise to keep that secret safe, I-- I can't tell you what that means to me.
Hope: You want to protect your son. How could I not understand that? I feel exactly the same way about Ciara.
Hope: In fact, that's--
Aiden: Sorry, I, uh, I don't mean to be rude, but I have to run. I have to meet Ben Rogers about his case.
Hope: Sure, okay. I'll meet you later at the pub?
Aiden: Okay. Okay.
Ben: Rafe, I feel just like you do about Chad. But the one thing that bothers me is that, every time he tried to just get me going, I totally took the bait.
Abigail: You know what? Maybe Chad feels bad about what he did.
Abigail: What? Maybe that's why he's trying to help you right now.
Ben: Okay, I will never believe that.
Rafe: No, no, me neither. There's gotta be something in it for him.
Ben: Of course. And I know what it is. He wants to get back with Jordan.
Rafe: Are you kidding me? All right, when is she gonna see him for the creep that he is?
Jordan: I have to check on a patient, but, hey, I really would like to talk to you before you leave.
Chad: I'll wait for you here.
Kate: I don't believe it.
Kate: You're really that deluded you think that creature's coming back to you? [Chuckles]
Will: There's no excuse for what I did.
Sonny: Then why do you keep making excuses?
Will: I'm not. I'm just trying to understand a few things.
Sonny: Like what?
Will: I'm going over my notes.
Sonny: Oh, you took notes on how good Paul was in bed?
Will: Will you stop that?
Sonny: No, I don't think so.
Will: I'm talking about the notes I made when I was interviewing him. I checked the dates. You proposed to Paul, and he turned you down, and that was right before you came back to Salem.
Sonny: So what?
Will: So you proposed marriage to someone, and you never thought to tell me?
Sonny: Paul wasn't out. He asked me to promise to keep it a secret about him and me.
Will: I get that part. What I don't get is that you loved him enough to ask him to marry you. Did all that love just go away because he said no? You are loved
Tori: You know, I know you mean well, but I'm in a new town, and I'd like to talk to my son before I discuss it with anyone else.
Marlena: Of course, I understand completely. I was just trying to help--
Tori: This obviously isn't the place for us to talk. I will wait for you outside.
Marlena: I'm so sorry if I upset her.
Paul: Well, I'm sorry my mother was being rude. Look, I appreciate what you said, but--
Marlena: But--but you need time alone with your mother.
Paul: Yeah, I do. I want you to know I'm sorrier than I can say for the mess that I caused between sonny and will.
Sonny: When Paul basically said marrying me wasn't worth coming out for, it really hurt. But I didn't stop loving him. It took a while.
Will: And according to my notes, he didn't say he didn't love you. He said he didn't want to lose you.
Sonny: That's right. I could have stayed with him. I could have kept being his big secret that he didn't want anyone to find out about. But as much as I loved him, I couldn't live my life like that. I was an open gay man and I wanted to get married.
Will: And so in spite of loving Paul so much, you came back to Salem, and you just married the next guy that came along.
Aiden: So, you don't deny punching Chad.
Ben: I can't. There were witnesses. Two of them were police officers.
Aiden: But what made you punch him?
Ben: I have a rotten temper. Abigail's seen it. My buddy Rafe's seen it.
Abigail: Chad has a big mouth, okay? And he knows how to get to people.
Aiden: So you were provoked? Ben, you're not doing anything to help yourself. Chad must have said something pretty bad to set you off.
Abigail: Exactly, he did.
Aiden: Were you there when it happened?
Aiden: Then you gotta let Ben answer my questions over here, okay? What did he say?
Ben: If I say it to you, I have to say it to the whole court, right?
Aiden: That's right. It's gonna be the basis of your defense.
Ben: If you think I'm gonna stand up in public and repeat that, you're dreaming. It's not gonna happen.
Chad: Well, is it so wrong to go after something you want?
Kate: Oh, honey, that's not gonna happen. Jordan's gonna end up with Rafe.
Chad: Whew, mmm. I don't think so. He lost his appeal for Jordan before he got bounced out of the police force. And now she knows he's a crooked cop. But, hey, don't feel too bad for him because I'm sure he's gonna get real lucky with a few of those waitresses over at the club he's running.
Kate: It's funny how that all worked out, isn't it?
Chad: All what?
Kate: Rafe showing up at the mansion with search warrants, which made you look like a criminal in front of your beloved Jordan. And then suddenly an anonymous letter shows up at the Salem pd, and Rafe is fired.
Kate: I don't think so. And I have just as many sources as your dear old dad.
Chad: [Chuckles] Okay. Well, how could little old me get Rafe fired?
Kate: By knowing that Rafe covered up for his sister Gabi. I'm giving you lots of credit. That was brilliantly played. You saw Rafe as a threat, and you did what any good DiMera would do. You destroyed him. You eliminated the competition so you could have your Tammy sue all to yourself.
Jordan: Is that true?
Sonny: Only the son of Sami Brady could twist things around so I'm responsible for you sleeping with another guy.
Will: I'm not doing that. I know that what I did was--
Sonny: Was disgusting.
Will: I betrayed you, and everything that we built together.
Sonny: Yes, you did.
Will: And if I were you, I could probably never forgive me. But I don't want this marriage to end, sonny. I don't want to have to tell my daughter that she lost you because of what I did. More than anything, I want us to stay together. But sonny, I spent a lot of time with Paul.
Sonny: Quality time.
Will: And I know that he still loves you. And now I know that you were still in love with him when you came back here. What I don't know is why does he think that you still might be in love with him?
Paul: You were rude to Dr. Evans, mom. Look, and I understand that you're really upset with me, but you shouldn't have taken it out on her.
Tori: I didn't mean to be rude. I just wanted to talk to you privately before I discussed your life with strangers, especially a meddling psychiatrist who wants to tell me how I should feel about my own son.
Paul: Look, she wasn't trying to tell you-- how did you know she was a shrink?
Hope: Thanks for meeting me.
Hope: How's sonny doing?
Marlena: Sonny is going to make a full recovery, thank god.
Hope: And will?
Marlena: Will is doing as well as could be expected under the circumstances. Tell me about you, your trip. Now belle says you never made it to Tahiti.
Hope: Can you believe it? I was so disappointed I wasn't able to make it. I was visiting Aiden's house in Puget sound, and the bridge went out so I couldn't leave.
Marlena: Oh. So you were with Aiden longer than you anticipated.
Hope: I was.
Marlena: And was that a good thing for you?
Hope: Yeah. Yeah, I think it--it was. Ciara and Aiden's son, chase, left on a field trip to san Francisco. It's their first time away from home for this long.
Marlena: Uh-huh. What's the matter?
Hope: Just having Ciara away for this length of time, it-- it brings me back to when she was kidnapped.
Marlena: [Gasps] That was years ago.
Hope: It was almost six years ago. And yet it feels like just yesterday. So I just can't help wondering if this brought it all back for me, could it do the same to her?
Marlena: Oh, honey, she was so young.
Hope: But after we got her back, she never said a word, nothing.
Marlena: Well, maybe she was just repressing the experience.
Hope: So all those terrible memories could come flooding back? And if they do, then what? What happens to my daughter then?
Aiden: Let me explain something, Ben. Sometimes a jury, even a judge, in a preliminary hearing can be influenced in your favor if the verbal provocation was threatening, or if it was--
Ben: Wait, Chad didn't threaten me.
Abigail: What he did was-- he compared me to Ben's sister in a very personal way.
Aiden: Okay, then he deserved a punch in the face.
Ben: And I agree. But I'm not gonna stand in front of a judge or a jury and repeat what he said.
Abigail: Why is the D.A. Pushing ahead with this case so hard? I mean, Chad tried to drop the charges.
Aiden: I--honestly, I don't understand the D.A.'S motive either or why that office is pressing so hard, all right? My best guess is that the D.A. Smells something fishy, Chad's a DiMera. I don't know. But honestly, I-I can't see how the D.A.'S gonna get this one to stick.
Ben: Even with witnesses like Abe carver? John black?
Aiden: Well, the jury still probably won't convict if the victim is not pressing charges.
Abigail: Well, he won't. I mean, he promised.
Aiden: Well, then, all right. I mean, if nothing else changes, then I think we're in pretty good shape.
Abigail: Really? That's--that's great, Aiden. Thank you.
Aiden: All right, I'm sorry. I've gotta run, okay?
Ben: Oh, hey, sorry for not making this easy for you.
Aiden: Hey, you were willing to take one on the chin for your girlfriend and your sister. In my book, that makes you a pretty good guy.
Ben: Thanks, man.
Aiden: All right, take care.
Jordan: Answer. Did you do that to Rafe?
Chad: Okay, look. You were there when Rafe accused me of the exact same thing, and I told you then that it was not true. She is just trying to make trouble for us, I promise.
Kate: Well, I suppose there--there are other people who could have had that information, like Gabi. I mean, you know Gabi. Do you think she would have ratted out her brother?
Jordan: No, I don't.
Kate: Whoever it was really hated Rafe and wanted him off the police force.
Chad: There are a lot of people who hated Rafe.
Kate: I don't think so. Other than the DiMera family, of course. Well, I think I'm gonna leave you two lovebirds to sort it out.
Jordan: You know what? Don't bother.
Chad: God. Damn it, Kate. Really?
Kate: Sorry about that.
Chad: You cannot honestly believe anything that Kate says.
Jordan: Get out of here!
Chad: How many times have you told me that she hates you, and that--that she's just trying to mess up your life? This is just another attempt to break us up.
Jordan: Oh, well, then she was wasting her time because thanks to you, we were already broken up.
Chad: Jordan, I swear to you that--
Jordan: Stop lying to me, Chad!
Chad: Okay, fine! I did it. I sent the damn letter, and you want to know why? Because Rafe used his position at the police force to come after me and my family. And the only reason he did that was because he wanted to get you back.
Jordan: I defended you to Abigail, to--to my brother even after you goaded him into beating you up. Everyone tried to tell me who you were. And I just wouldn't believe them. I thought I knew you better than anyone else. Oh, my god.
Jordan: I must be the biggest fool of all time. Don't you touch me. We are finished.
Marlena: Listen. Children seem to insulate themselves far better than adults from traumatic experiences that they couldn't even begin to process. Now, sometimes when they get a little older, they may have some memories, but--but--but it comes back in little pieces, little bits. Never, never as the entire experience.
Hope: After we got Ciara back, she started experiencing terrible nightmares, waking up screaming. Then suddenly one day they were gone. And she's been fine.
Hope: But... do you think it's okay that she's never talked about it?
Marlena: You know, I can't guarantee she won't remember, but if I were you, and she says nothing, I wouldn't push it.
Hope: Okay, good. Great. Thanks for the advice.
Marlena: [Chuckles] Always. I don't think you've got anything to worry about.
Tori: Dr. Evans is the head of the psychiatry department at university hospital.
Paul: Yeah, how do you know that?
Tori: When you and your agent insisted on coming to this small town hospital for your surgery, I did what any mother would do. I went on the internet and checked it out.
Paul: Well, I can see you checking out my surgeon or-- or my physical therapist. But the psychiatric department? I mean, what did you think, I was gonna need a shrink?
Tori: I knew your injury had the potential of ending your career, which it did. I thought you might be advised to talk to a psychiatrist, and I wanted to see that person's credentials.
Paul: Well, I did talk to Dr. Evans. But not for long. And I'm not talking to her anymore.
Tori: Why? What happened?
Paul: The writer at the magazine who did the interview? It's her grandson. So we had a, uh, conflict of interest.
Tori: Oh. I see. You know, it is not too late to reconsider. If we left right now, we can still catch the late flight back home. Don't you miss san Francisco? What's here for you now?
Paul: I keep telling you, mom, I am not gonna leave Salem.
Sonny: What are you saying? That I'm leading Paul on?
Will: No, I know you wouldn't do that. But the way Paul talked about this guy that proposed to him... I came away thinking that he's never gonna give up on him. And now I know that this guy is you. And I'm just trying to figure it all out. It's that I don't know how to talk to you about it because I feel so guilty. I wanted to tell you.
Sonny: But Kate talked you out of it. That's what I walked in on. Her telling you to keep your mouth shut. And you took her advice?
Will: She said that the only reason I wanted to tell you was so that you'd forgive me. So that I wouldn't feel so guilty. She thinks that I'm as big a jerk as you do.
Sonny: I doubt that.
Will: So here we are. You know what I did. And I know that the guy I did it with is the same guy that you proposed to right before you met me.
Sonny: You didn't know that then. What you knew was you are my husband and the love of my life. But you still flirted with Paul. You still went to his hotel room, and you still had sex with him. So I don't know why we're still having this conversation.
Will: Because the entire time that we were married, I thought that what we had was special.
Sonny: It was to me.
Will: You're the first man that I fell in love with. The first man that I... and now what? I'm just another one?
Will: The guy that finally said yes to you when you asked him to marry you?
Sonny: I asked you to marry me because I loved you. I committed to you. When Paul first came to town, he made it very clear what he wanted, but I couldn't do that. Because you and I are married. And that means something. And I could never, ever hurt you the way that you've hurt me.
Aiden: What have you been up to?
Hope: Oh, I, um, I called Marlena, asked her to meet with me.
Aiden: Just catching up?
Hope: No, actually I had some questions for her as a psychiatrist.
Aiden: Really? Is there a problem?
Hope: I wanted to know, if a child represses the memory of a traumatic experience, could those memories ever come flooding back?
Aiden: You told her about chase and Meredith?
Hope: No. No, I would never do that. I was talking to Marlena about Ciara.
Abigail: Hey. Oh, god, you look really upset.
Jordan: I am. I just left Chad for good.
Abigail: What did he do now?
Jordan: He is the one that got Rafe fired.
Jordan: He decided Rafe was still after me, so he's the one who wrote the letter that got him kicked off the force.
Abigail: God, you're kidding me.
Jordan: Rafe could have gone to prison because of me.
Abigail: No, Jordan. Because of Chad.
Jordan: You tried to tell me about him and I wouldn't listen.
Abigail: I don't know what to say, except that I'm really sorry.
Jordan: Not as sorry as I am. I need to talk to Rafe.
Rafe: Here with your boyfriend?
Jordan: No boyfriend. It's over, Rafe.
Rafe: For sure?
Jordan: Oh, yeah. I wish I had never laid eyes on Chad DiMera.
Paul: Why are you so desperate for me to leave?
Tori: I am not desperate.
Paul: Well, you keep talking about it, and you never wanted me to come to Salem in the first place.
Tori: I wanted the best for you, Paul. The kind of surgeon that all professional baseball teams turn to for their pitchers. And judging by the outcome of your surgery, I was right.
Paul: My arm isn't like this because Dr. Jonas wasn't the best. My arm is like this because I pushed myself too hard, and I pitched when I was hurt.
Tori: Who told you that?
Paul: My physical therapist. She says I was lucky. And I should regain normal use of my arm.
Tori: But you can't pitch anymore. Your brilliant career is over, and your life will never be the same again.
Paul: I've made my peace with that. You should, too. Or is my career as a pitcher all you ever cared about?
Marlena: Oh, Kate. You seen sonny?
Kate: Um, will's in with him right now.
Marlena: Oh, okay. How does he seem?
Kate: What are you fishing for?
Marlena: [Chuckles] Nothing. I'm asking how our grandson's husband seems to be.
Kate: You don't know, do you?
Sonny: There's one thing that keeps bothering me. Paul said he didn't know you were married. You weren't wearing a ring.
Will: I didn't wear it when I was with him.
Sonny: You were after him from day one?
Will: No. No, I hated taking it off. It was Hal price and Zoe's idea. They didn't want him asking me about my personal life.
Sonny: Why not?
Will: Because I'm gay. They thought it would make him uncomfortable.
Sonny: Because he's a professional athlete? Well, they missed the boat on that one.
Will: There's no way Paul could have known about us.
Sonny: Salem's not a very big town, will. Everyone knows you and your family. He could have found out.
Will: No one even knew I was interviewing him. That's why we had the interviews at his hotel room to keep it a secret. No one knew. That's why if you think that he was going after me to get to you, it's--it's just wrong.
Sonny: He did seem pretty surprised when he found out you were my husband.
Will: He feels just as rotten about the whole thing as I do.
Sonny: Wait, what? You've been with him again?
Hope: Almost six years ago, she was kidnapped.
Aiden: Hope, you never told me that.
Hope: Not at the top of my list of things to talk about and think about. She was so young and she was gone for a long time. It was a very difficult time to say the least.
Aiden: Oh, I'm--I'm so sorry. I can't believe you're-- you're telling me this. Well, who did it?
Hope: It was a guy that Bo and I worked with on the police force.
Hope: Someone we both trusted a lot. He set the whole thing up so he could be the one who rescued her.
Aiden: So he can get the ransom money. That poor little girl. I'm sorry.
Hope: I was so afraid I was never gonna see her again, Aiden. We'd already lost her brother, Zack. If I'd lost her too, I don't know what I would have done.
Aiden: But you didn't. Right? What made you talk to, uh, Dr. Evans?
Hope: After we got Ciara back, she started experiencing terrible nightmares. Waking up screaming.
Aiden: No wonder.
Hope: Then suddenly one day, they just stopped. It was as if nothing had ever happened to her. She doesn't seem to remember any of it. She never said a word. She, um, she had a pretty normal childhood, thank god. You know, we've always been close. Even closer since Bo left.
Aiden: I know what that's like.
Hope: So, um, having Ciara gone for this length of time, it just--it brought it all back to me. So I wanted to talk to Marlena to make sure that--well, I was afraid if it did that to me...
Hope: What if it did the same thing to Ciara?
Aiden: I see. Well, I don't think the field trip is the only reason why you have those old feelings. I mean, I think it's because what I told you about chase and what happened. I mean, isn't that the real reason you talked to Dr. Evans?
Hope: Yeah. It is.
Rafe: Well, I'm glad you're free of Chad. Sorry if he hurt you.
Jordan: Well, I'll be fine. The person he really hurt was you.
Rafe: What are you talking about?
Jordan: He's the one that got you fired from the police force, Rafe.
Rafe: I got fired because of what I did.
Jordan: He wrote the letter. He admitted it. What, you already knew that?
Rafe: Well, I didn't know for sure, but everything pointed to the guy.
Jordan: And you never said anything to me?
Rafe: What was I going to say to you? You didn't even believe me when I tried to warn you about him. You were going to believe me that he was trying to get me fired?
Jordan: I was so stupid.
Rafe: No, look, Jordan. Jordan? You are not stupid, okay? You're just--well, you've never ran into a guy like Chad before. He's got the DiMera talent to-- to hide anything.
Jordan: He said he wrote the letter because you were after me. And I just wanted to say that I'm really sorry.
Rafe: Not necessary. Ben had a meeting with his lawyer tonight.
Jordan: Do you know how it went?
Rafe: Well, the lawyer said they're probably gonna dismiss the case 'cause Chad's not pressing charges.
Jordan: But now that Chad knows that I never want to see him again...
Rafe: Yeah. What does that mean for Ben's case?
Abigail: You really are unbelievable, you know that?
Chad: Guess you saw Jordan. You should be happy. Now she thinks everything you told her about me is true.
Marlena: I spoke to will.
Kate: So you do know? How can you be so blasť about it? Sonny is the best thing that's ever happened to will.
Marlena: We both have to let them work this out on their own.
Kate: Oh, really? How is that gonna work out? How did that work out for your marriage when Roman found out that you had slept with another man?
Marlena: Wow. You never disappoint, do you?
Kate: Thank you.
Marlena: The thing is that will is not in love with Paul.
Kate: Yes, but sonny was in love with Paul. Sonny asked Paul to marry him and apparently Paul is now still in love with sonny.
Marlena: Well, then we'll just have to hope that sonny loves will enough to help him sort through this mess.
Kate: Yeah, and that Paul Narita is gone for good.
Marlena: Oh. No. I just saw him.
Kate: Oh, that's beautiful. So any ideas I had about a quick fix for this problem have suddenly evaporated.
Will: Okay, I did see him again.
Sonny: Why? Because you couldn't stay away?
Will: Because I had to know what made him tell you about him and me. That's when I found out about you two. If you had just told me--
Sonny: No, Paul told me he ended it with you.
Will: We both ended it. And I'm beginning to think that we both ended it for the same reason. We both love you. And I realized how much I'd be hurting you. And how much I love you. I hate what I did to you. Sonny, can you ever forgive me?
Hope: If you hadn't told me about chase and his reaction, or lack of one of being there when his mom died, I probably wouldn't have started worrying about Ciara.
Aiden: What did she say?
Hope: These kinds of memories could come back in bits and pieces. Nightmares. And all we could do as parents is just watch for the signs.
Aiden: I've been watching out for those signs since Meredith died.
Hope: I pray to god Ciara never remembers.
Aiden: Please, god, let that be true for chase.
Hope: All we can do is take care of our children. And protect them the best way we know how.
Aiden: I like to think we'll be doing that together.
Abigail: Do you have any idea how much you just hurt Jordan?
Chad: That's not what I wanted. Not really.
Abigail: 'Cause she was falling in love with you. She thought that you were gonna be the one man who was never going to disappoint her. I thought you were falling in love with her.
Chad: I was. Wasn't supposed to happen.
Abigail: What does that mean? Hmm?
Chad: It was never supposed to be about Jordan. But then I started feeling.
Abigail: Feeling what? You started feeling what?
Chad: I started feeling. Period. Feeling is never a good idea.
Abigail: I don't understand. What are you even talking about? Just say what you're trying to say, Chad.
Chad: I am saying... good night, Abigail.
Tori: You're my son, my life. I only cared about your career because you wanted it. And I always wanted the best for you.
Paul: I know how hard you had to work bringing me up. [Chuckles] It's part of the reason why I wanted to play pro-ball so that I could pay you back for all that you did.
Tori: You don't owe me a thing, Paul.
Paul: Yeah, I do. I mean, you raised me all alone. You used to sleep in the sofa bed in the living room so that I could have the bedroom. You gave up having a life so that I could have every advantage.
Tori: So you could be happy. That's all I ever wanted for my son.
Paul: I know. So, please, just stay in town a little while longer so that I can work through all this.
Tori: All right. If that's what you want.
Sonny: I don't think I'm perfect. My god, I blew our entire savings on a club that didn't have a chance.
Will: Well, that was just money. Nothing like this.
Sonny: You're right. You--you just make me feel that like what we had wasn't enough for you.
Will: But that's not true. That was never true.
Sonny: I'm sorry. I just--I can't do this tonight.
Will: I-I know that you're tired. I just--I hope--
Sonny: Please, please. I just can't take it anymore.
Will: I love you, sonny. I hope you know that I always will.
