Theresa: Daniel, there you are. Gee, I wanted to offer my condolences.
Daniel: I'm busy.
Theresa: I can see why you'd throw yourself into your work. Anything to keep yourself from thinking about what your junkie loser pal Brady is now doing to your daughter.
Melanie: Okay, okay, we have to--we have to stop, or we're not going to get out of here.
[Knocking at door]
Melanie: What now?
Nicole: So, since I know you have the rest of the day off, I'm headed over to your apartment to apologize in person.
Eric: Eh, do you also know that Serena's there?
Nicole: Oh, uh-- let me help you up.
Serena: Get the hell away from me.
Ben: What do you want?
Chad: I want to try to talk some sense into you... before Jordan and Abigail get hurt.
Abigail: So have you talked to Chad?
Jordan: No, I'm not sure I ever will again.
Abigail: Well, I wish you would at least talk to Ben. Chad said that he would pay for a lawyer to help with Ben's case.
Jordan: Really? Well, Clyde made the same offer too, but typical Clyde, he makes a promise, and then he takes off to parts unknown.
Abigail: You didn't know? Clyde's back.
Meredith: I sleep with it under my pillow. He scares me... so much.
[Banging at door in video]
Aiden: Meredith, open this damn door!
[Banging at door]
Hope: Oh, jeez!
Aiden: Hope! Open the door!
Aiden: Hope! Would you open the door?
Aiden: Ah, didn't you hear me knocking? I needed help with the door. Something wrong?
Nicole: Hi, this is Nicole. Leave a message, and I'll get back to you.
Serena: What, were you following me?
Nicole: No, I didn't know you were here. The door was open. I saw you on the floor. I asked if you needed help.
Serena: Well, I don't. So you can just turn around and leave.
Nicole: Actually, first I'd like to know what it is you're hiding.
Daniel: Now, why in god's name would I talk about this with you? I don't like you. I don't trust you. I don't care what you think about anything, let alone my daughter. So why don't you just keep your distance from me... okay?
Theresa: Actually, I didn't say anything about your daughter. I was talking about Brady. You and I both know... [Chuckles] That he is going to hurt her. Just like he's hurt every woman that he's ever been with.
Henderson: I have the mail, sir.
Brady: Henderson, thank you very much. What a guy.
Melanie: Anything good?
Brady: Anything good? No, looks like the same old junk. The sa--
Hope: I'm sorry about not getting the door. The truth is I wasn't feeling very well.
Aiden: Yeah, you do seem a little shaky.
Hope: Oh, God, and breakfast. I-I... I forgot to make breakfast.
Aiden: Hope, no problem. You're not getting sick, are you?
Hope: No, actually, I'm feeling, um--I feel much better now.
Aiden: Okay. I got to get a couple more bags out of the car, but don't worry. I'll leave the door open this time, okay? Okay?
Hope: Okay. One call, just let me make one... one call. [Sighs] Damn it.
Ben: Like you care about anybody other than yourself. And like I already told you, I'm not interested in your help.
Chad: I hope you don't need my help. I-I hope the DA is just playing games to mess with me.
Ben: Right, right, make it all about yourself.
Chad: But if she is not, if this does go to trial, she could call me as a hostile witness, and I would be forced to say what I said to you. Now, I'm not proud of it, but do you really want it all over the internet that I said your sister was better in bed than your girlfriend?
Jordan: Okay, I know Ben is the one that can't control himself. Right, okay? But he is right about one thing. What kind of a person goes and provokes a fight with Ben because he's mad at me? I mean, that's pretty convoluted thinking, don't you think? Even--even for a DiMera.
Abigail: I don't think there was a whole lot of thinking involved.
Jordan: [Sighs] At least with Ben, I know where the anger comes from. But I'm not sure I understand Chad at all.
Abigail: Yeah, he's not really, um, an open book, is he?
Jordan: He had a hard upbringing, didn't he?
Abigail: Yeah, it's complicated.
Jordan: I remember when his brother died, Chad said that he had lost his mother that way, just out of the blue. But then, of course, right after that, he pretty much clammed up.
Abigail: He didn't tell you what happened? I mean, about his family?
Jordan: Do you know?
Abigail: Yeah, but, Jordan, I don't think it's really my place to tell you.
Jordan: Abigail, this is not gossip, I am just trying to figure out why Chad is the way that he is. Please, tell me what happened.
Aiden: Oh, I stocked up. The guys at the bridge confirmed it's gonna be at least another night, maybe even two.
Hope: You're kidding me.
Aiden: Yeah, we're going to be here for a while, just the two of us.
Melanie: What is it?
Brady: It's nothing.
Melanie: I mean, it's not nothing. I saw the look on your face.
Brady: No, it's just something from the past. You don't need to worry about it.
Melanie: Oh, okay, well, now I'm worried.
Melanie: We talked about this. We promised we wouldn't let anything get in the way of our friendship. So I slept with my best friend, and now there's a stranger who's obviously upset standing in front of me, but he won't tell me why.
Brady: You're right.
Daniel: You don't know Brady at all, 'cause knowing him would entail actually thinking about another human being, and that is something you just-- you just don't do.
Theresa: How do you know what I know or don't know about Brady?
Daniel: I know how you think... because of what you did to me.
Serena: I'm not hiding anything from you.
Nicole: Yes, you are. As soon as you saw me, you shoved something in your bag.
Serena: [Chuckles] Wow. Um, well... not that it's any of your business, but it's a surprise for Eric. It's private, personal. I know--words you're not familiar with. And when you barged in here uninvited, yes, my first instinct is to hide it from you, because my first instinct is to keep you from knowing anything about me. I don't trust you.
Nicole: I told you, I didn't barge in here. The door was open.
Serena: Right. Oh, it was--it was open. There's always an excuse or-- or some reason or justification with you. You're always getting into my personal business. You do it over and over again. And then you say you're sorry over and over again, and it's still happening, and I'm starting to feel like an idiot for being so kind... and letting it go. How stupid do you think I am?
Nicole: Maybe this is a bad time.
Serena: Yeah, it is.
Nicole: Always a pleasure. Oh, uh...
Aiden: [Chuckles] It almost came to blows with some dude over the last bag of charcoal. I know it's a little chilly out there, but how about steaks on the grill tonight?
Hope: Uh, that sounds great, delicious.
Hope: I'll unpack these groceries. Oh, but first, can I use your phone? Mine's dead. I need to call Shawn and let him know that I won't be making it to Tahiti.
Aiden: I'm sorry. You're not going to believe this. I dropped my phone in the parking lot at the grocery store. It's not working now either.
Hope: Great. Uh, is there a pay phone in town?
Aiden: Uh, there is, there is, by the post office.
Hope: Okay, maybe I'll take a drive in.
Aiden: All right, well, you know what? Let me unpack these, and I'll drive you.
Aiden: Okay. You know, I know where everything goes. Why don't I do it? Why don't you sit down, relax, enjoy the view?
Aiden: You seem a little tense.
Hope: Yeah, well, I guess I am. No phone, bridge is out, I'm not going to see my son or my granddaughter.
Aiden: You, uh, want a drink?
Hope: What? Oh, gosh, it's a little too early in the day for me.
Aiden: It's 5:00 somewhere.
Hope: You know what? I think maybe... I'll take a walk outside, get some fresh air. I think that's what I really need.
Aiden: It's a good idea. I'll see if I can dig up some aspirin.
Hope: Yeah, great. Uh, thanks. I won't be long--just a little fresh air.
Aiden: [Breathes deeply]
Daniel: Remember when you first showed up here? You wanted to mess with Jennifer's head, and you didn't care who you used or who you hurt. Yeah, you didn't. So you didn't give a damn about Brady, could care less about who he really is.
Theresa: God, you smug, judgmental--
Daniel: No, you didn't give a damn about Brady. It was all about the bottom line, right? Yeah, about that money. You'd do anything to get your hands on it, anything. You didn't care that he was in pain, that he was self-destructive, that he needed help, because you're not capable. You are not capable of thinking or caring about another person. And the pathetic one in all this, it's not Brady or me or Melanie. It is you.
Melanie: It's from an adoption agency. And it says "urgent."
Brady: I know what it is. It's a screw-up, Melanie. It's a screw-up from my past.
Melanie: Did you want to adopt a kid?
Brady: Kristen did... desperately, and, uh, that's why I contacted that agency. For some reason, they can't seem to delete me from their files.
Melanie: It says "urgent."
Brady: Go ahead, open it. It's a--it's a mistake.
Melanie: Oh, wow.
Melanie: [Chuckles] They say that they have a little girl that they think would be a perfect match for you.
Brady: She would've been a perfect match, maybe... but not--not--not now. [Sniffs] You know, I was so sure of what I wanted back then. I was so sure of how to get it. I was so sure... of so many things. And all I'm sure of now is that my judgment can really... really suck. You need to know that about me, Mel.
Melanie: You let me worry about that part.
Brady: I'm s-- um, you have to get to work. [Chuckles] You're going to be late.
Melanie: Um... are you going to be okay?
Brady: I'm gonna be fine. I will be fine. Promise.
Eric: You two having a nice time? Or let me guess--you're fighting.
Nicole: I wasn't. Look, I got here. The door was open. Serena was on the floor. I asked her if she needed help.
Eric: Are you okay?
Serena: Yeah, yeah, don't-- I'm fine, fine, fine.
Nicole: She seemed kind of upset to me.
Serena: I was upset because you're spying on me.
Nicole: I-I wasn't. I came here to apologize to you in person. You knew I was doing that. Check your voice mail. I left you a message telling you I was coming over here, and I wouldn't have done that if I was following you.
Serena: [Sighs] You know what? Let's just not do this. She really did just ask if I was okay, and I probably overreacted, given our history.
Eric: Which she means your history.
Serena: Let's just let it go. Nicole, I'm sorry I-I snapped at you. I think I was just embarrassed that you saw me being such a klutz.
Nicole: And I'm--I'm sorry about the timing. I'll talk to you later. I... I really just wanted to say that I'm sorry.
Eric: You already have.
[Cell phone vibrating]
Nicole: Oh, my God. Sorry. It's my boss. I got to go. Serena, I really hope Eric likes his present.
Eric: What... what present?
Serena: [Chuckles nervously]
Melanie: And I'm sorry that this happened, because I know it reminds you of the future you thought you had with Kristen and the family that you thought you were going to have.
Brady: Melanie, that's the past. I would like to have us concentrate on our future.
Melanie: Right. Um, okay. Uh, I'll see you after work. And... I love you.
Theresa: He thought he could make a family with Kristen? [Scoffs] Wow. He's an even bigger moron than I realized. I mean, Kristen DiMera, wow. Talk about mommy dearest. I mean, she'd be almost as bad a parent as he would.
Eric: You have a present for me?
Serena: She really is a bad journalist, 'cause she can't get anything right. I told her that I had a surprise for you.
Serena: I was actually going to make you a nice lunch, not just Mac and cheese. But I was going to check the kitchen and see what you did and didn't have.
Eric: Not much, I'm afraid.
Serena: Well, I brought some eggs. I was thinking maybe omelets.
Eric: Sounds good.
Serena: Eric, don't be mad at Nicole. I seriously overreacted. I think I was just mad that I was so uncoordinated, and I took it out on her. She really very nicely... asked if she could help.
Eric: Yeah, well, she's very good at being nice-- I mean, sincere.
Serena: Come on, if I can be accepting and understanding, shouldn't you?
Eric: Maybe we should talk about Nicole one more time... and then never again.
Nicole: No, miles, you listen to me. I made it very clear. I am not covering Sonny's stabbing, because you want me to sleaze it up, and I won't do it. No, you're not asking me to do my job. You're asking me to exploit my friendship with his family, just like you asked me to exploit my friendship with Eric. That won't happen for so many reasons. All you need to get is that I won't do it, so forget it. Ugh.
Abigail: And then he found out some, uh... some things about his mother's past. He really loved her. They were on the pier, and they had this huge argument, and she fell.
Jordan: That's how she died?
Abigail: It was an accident. Chad--he felt like it was his fault, you know. He felt responsible, and he feels like he killed his own mother.
Clyde: I got a chance with Ben. You do anything to mess that up, I will tell him everything-- how you climbed behind the wheel of that truck and deliberately killed his mama...
Clyde: And his baby brother.
Abigail: Then, you know, to top it all off, he gets pulled into the DiMera house, which is a complete nightmare, and then he finds out, out of the blue, that he has a brother and sisters. And now Lexie and EJ are both dead, and Kristen is, you know, God knows where. Honestly... I don't know how anyone could deal with that.
Jordan: Oh, my God. And he just keeps on going?
Abigail: Yeah, one way or another. Um, Jordan, I'm sorry. I have to--I have to talk to Ben. I'm--I'm sorry to just dump all this on you and then take off.
Jordan: No, no, it's okay. Um, thank you for telling me all this. And let me know how it goes with Ben.
Abigail: I will. And email me the budget proposal, please, when you can.
Jordan: No wonder he hates talking about the past.
Ben: No, Chad, I don't want that to come out-- that you compared Abigail and Jordan in bed-- but I sure would like the whole world to know just how much of a tool you are.
Chad: Yes, I'm the worst person ever. But I can help you, and you need help.
Ben: No, no, don't worry about it. My dad has a lawyer for me. Your help is not needed, okay?
Chad: Mm-hmm. And what'd this lawyer say?
Ben: He's out of town. I haven't spoken to him yet.
Chad: Or your father screwed up.
Ben: Why don't you just, you know, go away?
Chad: I will... if you just tell me you'll at least consider my guy if you run into any problems.
Ben: Chad, I will say whatever the hell it takes to make you leave.
Chad: Good. What's your guy's name?
Ben: Jennings... Aiden Jennings.
Meredith: I know everybody loves Aiden. He's so funny, such a good guy, the dimples. They don't know what I know. Nobody does. That smile of his... it's the smile of a--of a monster. Unfortunately... I mean, okay... I stopped him from poisoning me. But all that really meant was... he'd have to find another way to kill me.
Meredith: I'm Meredith Jennings, and... I'm terrified that my husband is planning to kill me.
Aiden: [Breathing heavily]
Eric: The only reason I want to talk about Nicole is because of you.
Eric: Listen, I don't trust her. I don't believe a word she has to say about anything. I want to be able to get close to somebody again, and I don't know if I can. I opened up to Nicole, and it really screwed me up.
Serena: None of that was your fault.
Eric: Fault... fault doesn't matter. When things happen like they happened today... it made me realize that I might not be able to get over what happened. It could be years. I'm sorry.
Daniel: When you showed up at the hospital the night Sonny was stabbed, I just assumed you were there to cover the story.
Nicole: No, as much as I'd like to think otherwise, I'm not really a serious journalist, not like Serena.
Daniel: Your boss thinks you're a journalist. He wants you to cover that story.
Nicole: Only because I know Sonny's family and can get quotes which we could take out of context. Now, the only way to make miles happy is to make this story really sensational, and that's just a nice word for "trashy."
Daniel: Thank you... for taking care of Sonny and his family. They've been through enough.
Nicole: Well, mainly because you care so much about all of them. But I do think you should know the truth. I refused to do the story because of you.
Melanie: I don't know where you get off thinking you know what kind of parent Brady would be.
Theresa: I'm sorry. Excuse me. In what universe does a woman get knocked up by herself? You know, Brady was so hot for me, he didn't even think about using protection.
Melanie: Ew. You weren't pregnant.
Theresa: I thought I was. It was a legitimate scare.
Melanie: Well, thank God that's all that was. I'm pretty sure Brady's grateful that you didn't turn up being the mother of his child.
Theresa: Oh, I'm pretty sure that Brady was grateful that he didn't end up a parent himself. You know what he said? "Thank God no kid will have to deal with the two of us as parents." "The two of us." Brady knew that no kid should be saddled with a sorry loser like him for a dad. He knows that he's a loser, and that's all he'll be till the day he dies.
Abigail: So has Aiden answered any of your dad's calls?
Ben: Well, I just spoke to my dad, and apparently Jennings is out of town and can't be reached.
Abigail: Okay, so then will you please think about letting Chad help you?
Jordan: Hey, haven't seen you in a while.
Chad: Yeah, uh... I have to take care of some business for the board.
Jordan: Well, I am glad to see you. Abigail told me you offered to get Ben a lawyer.
Chad: Yeah, I offered, but he turned me down. I can't--I can't blame him. I was the one who caused the whole mess in the first place.
Jordan: Well, I think we should all share in the blame.
Chad: That's very sweet of you to say, but it's not true. I do wish I could've stopped it before it went to trial, though.
Jordan: You tried.
Chad: You know what? Will you talk to Ben for me? I really think this lawyer I was telling him about could--could stop it, even before the hearing.
Jordan: Chad, thank you. What you are doing is really, really kind.
Hope: [Sighs] You're jumping to conclusions, hope. The woman was an alcoholic. She was filled with rage and maybe even delusional. But if someone walked into the station with that story, you'd check it out thoroughly. But then again, on the other hand, there is always that "innocent until proven guilty" thing you still profess to believe in. And remember... you know him... and you trust him. You trust him, hope. [Sighs] You trust him. [Sighs]
Serena: Eric... you're one in a million. You are honest... and open... and a really nice person, and I am sorry for what Nicole did to you. And I hope that I... never, ever hurt you.
Eric: I don't think that's possible.
Serena: Uh, why don't we figure out what's going on those omelets? I've got cheese and mushrooms--
Eric: Please, don't go to any trouble.
[Cell phone rings]
Serena: It's just cooking. It's not trouble.
Eric: Hello? You're kidding, right? Is it a leak? Is it safe? Okay, thanks. That was the super. They're going to turn the gas off in the building for repair.
Serena: [Groans] That stinks. I was really hoping to impress you with my culinary prowess.
Eric: Well, that looks like it's going to have to be down the road. I mean, it was just lunch, right?
Serena: Yeah... uh, just lunch.
Nicole: So, once again, I didn't do a nice thing. I did a selfish thing.
Daniel: And yet you felt compelled to tell me all of that. I mean, it's like you have this weird honesty streak in you. I mean, you don't have to confess all of it. You could let me think that you were nice.
Nicole: I just--
Daniel: And that wouldn't be lying. It wouldn't. It wouldn't be lying. You don't have to tell all--
Nicole: I know. I just didn't want you to feel like I was conning you.
Daniel: Even though I didn't know I was being conned?
Nicole: Okay, Daniel, I'm trying to do something different here, okay? Instead of pretending to be who I want you to think I am, I just want to be who I want you to think I am.
Nicole: Look, I... I know I've probably blown everything with you forever, but... there is something I can do. I can prove that I've learned from my mistakes. I don't want to hurt you ever again, even in the smallest way. And after everything we've been through and all the awful things I've done... something finally is clear to me. I love you. I love you more now than I ever have.
Clint: Theresa. Ready? Let's go.
Theresa: Yes, I am so ready. Let me just grab my coat.
Clint: What were you two talking about?
Melanie: I don't know how that's any of your business.
Clint: It looked like you were in her face. I like her, which means I don't like people in her face. So keep in mind. I'm looking after her. Yeah, Dr. Mandrake, I thought you'd probably want my latest update on Theresa Donovan.
Melanie: So why are you looking after her?
Meredith: I knew he'd--he'd strangle me in my sleep or use some sort of weapon, like that ax he's always sharpening, the one he keeps in that damn closet. Aiden? Aiden?
Ben: [Groans] I don't get why you think Chad is, like, the cavalry charging in... why he has all the answers.
Abigail: Damn it, Ben. This isn't about Chad. It's about how much I love you.
Chad: If I were a kind person, I wouldn't have to be doing this at all.
Jordan: I think in your heart, you are kind.
Chad: I do things to get what I want. And right now I want you back, more than anything. But if you think that I am somehow going to turn into someone else... I can't. That is never going to happen.
Serena: Ah, so we'll do lunch some other time, for sure.
Eric: You don't want me to walk you back to the hospital?
Serena: Oh, no, actually, I have to run by the hotel first.
Eric: Serena, I almost forgot. I need to get my key back. The super--he, uh, he's misplaced his, and he might need to get in here for repair.
Serena: No, sorry, of course. Yes. I owe you an omelet.
Daniel: I... I-I don't know what to say.
Nicole: You don't have to say anything. I know this changes nothing. I'm just trying to... you know, even if you never speak to me again... and I don't expect that you will... I just hope someday that-- well, when you see that I've tried, you'll know that you've changed me... for the better.
Theresa: [Giggles] Um, would you get me a drink?
Clint: Be happy to. What do you want?
Theresa: Surprise me.
Theresa: That was so sweet. I heard Melanie on the phone making sure you were okay after some botched adoption offer?
Theresa: Well, all I can say is thank God you're passing on that, because I'd sure feel sorry for any kid who had you as a father.
Melanie: Oh, my God.
Hope: There's got to be another explanation. There's got to be.
