Rafe: Well, it is so good to see you. And I just want to tell you how much it means to me that you take the time and go visit Gabi.
Marlena: Oh, no, no, no. Gabi's family. So are you.
Rafe: So, uh. You said there's something that she wants you to talk to me about?
Rafe: Something that she can't tell me herself.
Rafe: Yeah, okay.
Marlena: She's scared, Rafe.
Rafe: Of what?
Marlena: She's afraid because you're no longer on the police force. She's afraid that you'll want to leave town. She's afraid that she won't see you anymore.
Aiden: Do I really have to justify every move I make to you?
Hope: No. I wasn't trying to interfere, I was just--
Aiden: Yeah, but you are, once again, and this time it's none of your damn business so, please.
Hope: You're right. Uh...yeah. You're right. It's, um, it's your vacation. It's a matter for you and chase. Sorry. I didn't mean to intrude.
Aiden: Hope, wait. Please.
Paige: Damn it, JJ. I need to know all of it, okay. I need to know who it was. Who was she? Who did you sleep with?
JJ: Paige. It happened. What the hell difference does it make who it was?
Paige: It makes a difference to me. You won't tell me because it was somebody I know. Right?
JJ: I never said--I never said that.
Paige: You didn't have to. If it was just some stranger, you wouldn't be acting this way, would you?
Jennifer: You don't even know JJ.
Eve: No, you don't know JJ, Jennifer. You bury your head in the sand. And you make excuses for him, but you don't have a clue about your son or what he does. What are you talking about? What exactly does that even mean?
Eve: Well. If you are gonna be so blind as to what your son is all about, well, nothing I say is gonna be able to change that.
Jennifer: No, I am serious. You just said that I don't have a clue. Now you need to clue me in right now.
Abigail: Look, Jordan is gonna come around. She loves you, and--
Ben: This wasn't supposed to happen.
Abigail: I'm gonna tell her that it was my idea.
Ben: No, no, you don't get it.
Abigail: What are you talking about?
Ben: I knew what Clyde was up to and I didn't tell her. She's never gonna forgive that.
Jordan: I know why you donated that money.
Clyde: Excuse me?
Jordan: Don't try to manipulate me again. I--don't play innocent. I know exactly what you're do--
Clyde: That's enough out of you, Tammy Sue! Time you and I got a few things straight. I am done taking crap from you and everyone else in this damn town.
Paige: Look at me.
JJ: There's no point. We're done.
Paige: No. No, JJ, we are in no way done!
Jennifer: What's wrong? Cat got your tongue? You were so wonderfully verbal just now, making nasty insinuations about my son. So tell me what it is. What? No, don't you dare walk out of this, don't you dare barge in my house making baseless accusations about JJ. Tell me what it is.
Jennifer: Yeah. It sounds like.
Eve: Well, I'll tell you what I know, Jennifer. But you better sit down because, uh, you're not gonna like what you hear.
Clyde: Ever since I got here, I been trying to make things right with you. But nothing I do is good enough for little miss high and mighty. All you done is spit in my face. What's the matter with you, girl?
Jordan: [Muffled scream]
Clyde: Why can't you be more like Ben? He's coming around. He's trying to let me fix--ah, damn!
Jordan: Go ahead. Do it.
Abigail: Ben. Listen, no one has been more protective of Jordan than you have. Okay, and she knows that.
Ben: We're talking about Clyde. That's different.
Abigail: Yes. I know, and she can never change the way she feels about him. But she would never try to tell you how to feel about Clyde either, es--especially now. Now that he is working so hard to make up for the terrible things he's done to the two of you. You just--you gotta trust me, okay? She's gonna see this eventually.
Ben: No, she won't. There's no eventually, believe me. That's never going to happen.
Abigail: You don't know--
Anne: Yo, Deveraux. Aw, I'm sorry. I hate to interrupt this tender moment, but I'm looking for miss tweedle-dum. You know, your partner on the charity thing. Did she have something better to do?
Jordan: Go ahead, Clyde. Show me what a big man you are. Knocking back a little liquid courage, just like the old days.
Clyde: Get out of here.
Jordan: No. I came here to tell you something, and you are damn well gonna listen to me.
Abe: I need a favor, john.
John: Just name it.
Abe: Come back to the force.
John: You offering me a job?
Abe: Yeah. Rafe's.
Rafe: There's nothing in Salem for me anymore. And she shouldn't worry that I'm gonna go far from her. Not...not while she's still in there.
Marlena: Well, that'll be comforting for her, but what do you mean there's nothing in Salem for you?
Rafe: Well, I don't even have a job, for starters.
Marlena: You are so well thought of here.
Rafe: Well, thank you, but if I were, it was before I was thrown off the police force.
Marlena: What are you saying? You have no prospects?
Rafe: Not unless you count Victor's offer to run his new night club. You're not laughing.
Marlena: I know, I'm not laughing at all.
Hope: Is chase okay?
Aiden: Yeah, yeah. He's in the toy store with his friend, Billy. And Billy's mother. So I couldn't talk to him about how rude he was to you earlier, but I will do that later. But I do know that he is very sorry.
Hope: He's just a little guy. Little boy. But you're not.
Aiden: Oh. I am sorry for talking to you like that. You certainly didn't deserve it.
Hope: And I'm sorry, that you always feel like you have to explain yourself to me.
Aiden: Look, it's this--this thing with the house, you know. It's just--it's kind of a mess.
Aiden: I mean, not just the sale itself, just the way I sprung it on chase and his reaction, and... he didn't know, but I--I've had it on the market for quite a while.
Hope: Since when?
Aiden: Since you.
Eve: Oh, Jennifer, you have a very short memory. Don't you remember JJ, the pot-head? Yeah. All those stoners in high school knew that he was the man to hook them up with drugs. And don't forget what he did at that storefront. Smashing all those windows? My gosh, it's a wonder that he is not in jail right now.
Jennifer: Eve, yes, that is all common knowledge. JJ was a boy in a lot of pain because he lost his father, who he adored. So yeah, he did some really stupid, self-destructive things. But you know what, that is in his past and everyone that knows JJ can see that. Except for you for some reason, because the minute he started dating Paige, you have been after him. You have been trying to break them apart. You have been literally trying to ruin his life.
Eve: Don't you think you're being just a little bit melodramatic here?
Jennifer: No, I don't. But I don't understand why, because other than the fact that, yes, he is my son, what has he ever done to you?
JJ: We're not done. Really? Well, that's not the idea I got when you called me from L.A.
Paige: But I thought we were never coming back! You know that! You know I didn't really want--
JJ: I didn't know anything, Paige, except that you said that I was never gonna see you again. Do you really want to get into what that felt like?
Paige: I thought I knew.
JJ: Man, I was ready to do anything. I even said that I would come out there. And all you said was no. Forget about it. Forget about us. So I-I went out and did what millions of guys before me have done. Big shocker.
Paige: What a minute. Are you saying that this is my fault? You are. Apples may fall,
John: Do you know how long it's been since I was a cop?
Abe: I'm not talking about having you walk the beat, john.
John: I'm a corporate executive now, I've been one for years.
Abe: I know this might entail a small cut in pay from basic black. John...this is another chance to do the kind of work you thrive on. Work you love.
Abe: Look, I've gotta get to another appointment.
Abe: Yeah? Think about it, all right? Talk to whoever you need to. But we could really use you. I mean that.
Rafe: Victor says it's all set up and ready to go.
Marlena: Alrighty. What's the problem?
Rafe: I'm a cop.
Marlena: Look, Victor would not have made you the offer if he didn't think he could make money on you.
Rafe: Oh, Marlena. Come on.
Marlena: Truly. And you know what? It would be a good living for you. And you'd be right here in Salem. Think how much that would mean to Gabi.
Rafe: Yes. I know.
Marlena: Well, I gotta go.
Marlena: Whatever you decide. I hope it works out for you.
Rafe: Thanks. See ya.
Aiden: Look, I know we've reached a point where we don't have to tiptoe around each other. I've held onto the beach house because chase has a lot of happy memories of the place. But for me...it's where my wife and I fought. It's where she...you know, it's--it's where she died. I don't want to be trapped in my past anymore. I look at you, hope, and I-- I see my future. If I was to hold onto that beach house, no matter what the reason, I mean...what would that say to you?
Hope: I appreciate that you're worried about what I would think if you kept the house, but the truth is, is that... Aiden, it doesn't matter to me what you do with it. If chase loves it, do not get rid of it on my account.
Abigail: I-I will--I'm gonna text her, and I will tell her that you're looking for her.
Anne: Thank you. You can also tell her I have some serious concerns about this little project of yours. And I think the three of us need to have a discussion.
Ben: All right. I have to get to work.
Abigail: Oh--uh. See you later, okay. Uh...did you check the P.T. Room?
Anne: Oh, my God, what a brilliant idea and I never would have thought of it. Yes, of course I checked the P.T. Room and I left her messages--nothing. The girl's gone AWOL.
Clyde: All right. What do you want to say to me?
Jordan: That I am done. I am done trying to figure out what goes on in that twisted head of yours. And if Marlena Evans somehow figures it out, then she deserves a Nobel prize or something.
Clyde: Well, I know you don't want to believe it, but that woman's been helping me.
Jordan: Yeah. Yeah, I can really tell you are a new man.
Clyde: I know how close I came to hitting you, but I didn't.
Jordan: What do you want, a medal?
Clyde: Well, how am I supposed to act? You march in here and call me the devil. All I did was...give you what you wanted.
Paige: You say you did what millions of guys have done before you. But you're not like that.
JJ: No, I'm special.
Paige: You are. At least, I thought you were.
JJ: Well, maybe you just never read me right. I was never pretending to be a saint. How could I? 'Cause ever since I met you, people have been lining up to tell you what a creep I am.
Paige: But I didn't listen to those people. I didn't even listen to my own mother.
JJ: Well maybe you should start. 'Cause life would go a lot easier for you.
Paige: You--you told me you loved me.
JJ: Yeah. I know. But I don't. Truth is, I really don't need you in my face right now. Uh, you're kinda starting to bore me.
Eve: It's what JJ has done to Paige, that's the point, Jennifer.
Jennifer: He is crazy about her. Or, he was. But you did something. You--you did something to come between them.
Eve: Is that what your little liar told you?
Jennifer: Really? Is that why you came here? To find out if JJ told me what you did? Well, you don't have to worry because he didn't tell me a thing, but I really wish that he would have, 'cause I would tell him never to give up on someone that he cares so much about.
Eve: Look. Did it ever occur to you just to mind your own business here?
Jennifer: No. What occurs to me is that I promise you, I am not giving up. Because I don't understand why JJ and Paige aren't together, but I'm telling you, I am gonna do everything I can to fix whatever it is that you did to him.
Eve: Don't you make me out the villain here because your son is not the saint that you think he has become.
Jennifer: Oh, really?
Eve: Yeah, that's right. He's still the same bad boy he always was, believe me. I know that for a fact. When it comes to Medicare, everyone talks
Aiden: Hope, I've had lots of reasons for wanting to sell that house.
Hope: I know. I know, I know, I know. But chase seemed so upset.
Aiden: Maybe it's painful to sell the house right now. But I think in the long run, it'll be better for him. I know it'll be better for us.
Hope: I just told you that I was fine.
Aiden: I know what you just told me. And I love you for caring so much about my son's feelings. I love you...period. I don't want anything to come between us. Okay? Not now, not in the future. Trust me about the house, okay? I know what I'm doing.
[Cell phone rings]
Hope: Oh. Sorry.
Aiden: Oh, you got...
Hope: It's Abe. I've gotta go.
Aiden: Okay. Are we good?
Hope: We're good.
Aiden: Oh, thank God.
Hope: Thanks for explaining all of that to me. You know, you really--you didn't have to.
Aiden: I think I did.
Hope: I better go. Bye.
Rafe: Hey, Ben?
Rafe: Hey. Sonny here?
Ben: Uh, no. Sorry man.
Rafe: No. Okay.
Ben: Uh--hey, Rafe.
Ben: I...heard about how you lost your job. I'm sorry, man.
Rafe: Yeah. Well...thanks.
Ben: Yeah. So I guess now with no badge, can't go after Chad anymore, huh?
Rafe: Who says I was going after him?
Ben: I overheard him on the phone. Crowing about how you showed up at his house with a search warrant and he sent you packing.
Rafe: You sound like you wish it had worked out differently.
Ben: Well...when you blew it with Jordan, that opened the door up for Chad. And to my mind, Jordan has enough to deal with right now.
Jordan: What do you want me to do? Get down on my hands and knees, thank you for your generosity? I don't want anything from you.
Clyde: And that's why I kept my name off the donation. Ben and I agreed that was the best way. And I'm not about to apologize for wanting you to succeed. I know you, girl. I raised you. You've always wanted to help people. All I wanted was to help you do that. When I get my hands on that slick lawyer I hired to keep that donation anonymous, I'm--
Jordan: Ben told me.
Jordan: It wasn't the lawyer, it was Ben.
Clyde: Oh, no, I can't believe that. He knew how I felt better than anyone.
Jordan: Okay, don't give me that. You are still the same conniving bastard you always have been. You wanted me to know. That was the plan all along.
Jennifer: You keep telling me what you know, but you never say what it is. Which makes me think that you are bluffing.
Eve: Here's what I know about your precious son, Jennifer. I know that my daughter used to be a-a person of integrity and honesty. Until she got into JJ's orbit and started lying to me. I'll tell you this much, I thank God that he is out of her life so she can go back to being the sweet, promising young girl that she was before she had the misfortune of meeting your son. You know, Jennifer, I used to think that it was Jack that made JJ who he was. Now I know it's you. God, I hope you're proud of yourself.
Paige: You go to hell, JJ.
John: I've just been offered a job that's go, go, go all the time just when I've been thinking about slowing it down a little bit. You know, enjoy life a little more. Do a little traveling. Maybe you've been thinking about the same thing?
Marlena: Cruises? Long walks. Stopping to smell the roses?
Marlena: I think I'd rather chew glass. And I think you feel the same way.
Jennifer: You okay?
JJ: Sure. Don't I look--look okay?
Jennifer: No, you don't. Not to me. And I know it's because of Paige. Honey, I am so worried about you and you've been keeping this all bottled up inside, and... I think we should just sit down and talk about what happened. Tell me why you broke up with Paige.
Eve: Honey? It's him, isn't it? It's JJ.
Paige: I don't want to talk about it.
Eve: Oh, honey. Why don't you come home with me, all right? It'll just be the two of us like it used to be, all right. You know that I love you so much and I want to help you any way that I can. You know that, right?
Paige: I don't know. I don't understand him. [Sobbing] I don't know what happened.
Rafe: Well, Jordan was hurting. A guy like Chad knows how to work that. She's too smart not to see through him. Abigail did, right? She ended up with the right guy, didn't she?
Rafe: Is something else wrong? Everything okay with you and Abigail?
Ben: Just one of those days, man. You know?
Rafe: Oh, yeah. Yeah. I know. I know.
Abigail: Well, Jordan still isn't texting me back. I have no idea where she is. So you're just gonna have to talk to me about whatever your problems with our project are.
Anne: Okay, well I just finished reading your prospectus and I have some concerns.
Abigail: Okay, like what?
Anne: Well, like the protocol for handling future donations. I know a little bit about tax law and I think the way you girls set it up, it could wind up costing the hospital bundles.
Abigail: Go to page 34. And the footnotes in the back. Number 16.
Anne: Good lord, I have to read footnotes to understand this thing?
Abigail: Just read it, please, Anne.
Anne: But it's just a bunch of legalese.
Abigail: Right, that's 'cause a lawyer wrote it. But I believe it covers your concern.
Abigail: Great. Um...but I do think maybe we could change the language so that it's not so confusing.
Anne: Yes, that is--is my point exactly.
Anne: Okay, great. Well then I guess we are on the same page.
Anne: Okay, well. Who knows, maybe the three of us will be able to work together after all.
Anne: Okay. Well, you will tell Jordan about this little conversation we had if she chooses to show up?
Abigail: Yes, I will. As soon as I find her.
Anne: Well, I'm sure she's out with her board member boyfriend or her, you know, rich step-daddy who funded her charity. Some people just have all the luck.
Clyde: So what do I get? Out of having you found out I gave that money, huh? Nothing. Look at you. You still hate me. Maybe worse than before. Now Ben, I'm glad he knows. Feels good to have my boy just a little bit proud of me, you know. Maybe thinking I'm not so bad after all.
Jordan: You wrote one check. You think that's gonna erase all of Ben's memories of the beatings and the verbal abuse?
Clyde: If I'm so evil, how come I've spent all these years covering for you, huh? Answer me that, Tammy sue. Your eyes really are unique.
John: I should have just asked you straight out. So what do you think I should do about Abe's offer?
Marlena: I think--I think I want to see you do something that you love. And you--you're the happiest when you're being productive. When you're helping people. Because that's exactly who you are.
John: And you know who you are. You are a beautiful woman that never fails to amaze and fascinate me.
Hope: Having john back would be great for morale.
Abe: Yeah, yeah. I know it's low after what happened with Rafe.
Hope: Yeah, I know.
Abe: Is that why you've been kind of quiet.
Hope: Yeah, and--well, that. And a personal thing.
Abe: Well, you don't have to tell me about it. Unless you want to.
Hope: You know I've been dating Aiden Jennings, right? Hey, let's sit down. Well, I just came from a very, uh, emotional conversation with him. He's really serious about us.
Abe: Well, that's a good thing.
Hope: Yeah. I--I've...I've really grown to like him. A lot.
Abe: Then what's the problem?
Hope: There is no problem. I want my life to be back under my control, and I'm taking it. Which is why I'm moving on, Abe.
Abe: So what is it?
Hope: I think I was starting to realize just how different Aiden and Bo really are.
Aiden: Look. I know you don't like the fact that I'm selling the house. But to say that hope put me up to it, it's not only untrue, it's unkind.
Chase: I'm sorry, dad.
Aiden: I know you're sorry. But I expect the next time you see hope, you're gonna apologize to her.
Chase: I will.
Aiden: I mean...I talked to you about what it means to be a gentleman, right?
Chase: But dad, you can't sell the house. I love going there and mom did too. You just can't.
Aiden: I've already made up my mind, buddy.
Chase: But mom's stuff's still there. Kite she made me. My kayak--are you just gonna throw that stuff away?
Aiden: No, I'm not gonna throw that stuff. Are you kidding me? No, I'm gonna have it all sent here. You can kayak on the lake. I know that it hurts right now. But we can make a life here. A really good one. And I believe that's the best way to--to stop the hurting. I made this decision, chase. And I made it because I think it's the best thing for you. You believe that, don't you?
JJ: Remember awhile back when you told me that there would probably be a lot of girls in my life? Well, you know what, I'm--I'm in college now and I just--I just figured that you were right. Why tie myself down?
Jennifer: Uh-huh. You know, since you came back from school, uh, I think that we have gotten really close. Close enough for me to know when you're telling me the truth and when you're shining me on. So you sound sincere and you look really convincing. And most people would buy what you just said. But I am not. I am not buying it for one minute.
Eve: Here, honey. You just tell me what happened.
Paige: You were right. JJ, he doesn't want to see me anymore. It wasn't just that. He was so mean.
Eve: Oh, honey.
Paige: He was like a different person. It's like--it's like he turned into a different person. He wasn't the JJ I know.
Eve: Well...boys can be like that, sweetheart. You know, you leave the room and then they go on and check out the next available talent.
Eve: I know. I know, you thought he was different.
Paige: I thought he loved me. Like, an hour ago. I still thought that. You don't do what he did to people you love, right?
Eve: Well. I know that words can hurt. Honey, they're just words.
Paige: No. I'm not talking about what he said. I'm talking about what he did. While I was in L.A., You know, because grandpa was sick.
Paige: JJ, he--he slept with someone else.
Ben: So why do you even know about Victor's new place? And why are you so interested in what Sonny does?
Rafe: Just curious, I guess.
Rafe: Too much time on my hands.
Ben: Right. I'm sorry.
Rafe: No. Well, I'm gonna head out. But, uh, if you hear anything useful about Chad, I wouldn't mind hearing about it.
Ben: Oh, yeah?
Rafe: Yeah. Just 'cause I'm off the police force doesn't mean I'm gonna stop keeping an eye on the guy.
Ben: Good. Nothing. Come on, Jordan. Where the hell are you?
Jordan: Don't start with me again. What happened with my mother was an accident! I loved her and I would never, ever hurt her.
Clyde: Well, you've been telling yourself that for so long, you almost make it sound like the truth. But it's not the truth. You hated me. You wanted your momma to leave me. She wouldn't do it. So you started to hate her too.
Jordan: Don't tell me how I feel!
Clyde: Oh, she loved me, Tammy sue. She wasn't going anywhere. And she told you that. And she also said she had some news for you. And when you found out what it was, that changed everything. And that was the day your momma died.
Jordan: What news? I don't even know what you're talking about!
Clyde: Oh, yes you do. Maybe it's time you let yourself remember everything about that day, Tammy sue.
Rafe: Victor? Yeah, I've been thinking about your offer. Still on the table? Okay. Then, uh...I'm in. Well, because as much as I might like to leave town, Gabi needs me here. So when are you thinking about opening this joint? Seriously? No--no, no, no. You're right. Fish or cut bait.
Hope: I know Bo Brady better than anyone else. Well...I used to.
Abe: And you don't think you know Aiden as well. Is that the kind of thing that comes with time?
Hope: I don't know. Maybe. Bo, uh...he certainly wasn't an open book. It was like pulling teeth to get any information out of him. But you know, with Aiden just now, it just--I mean, I could tell that he was trying to be completely honest with me. But sometimes I feel like... there's a lot more to the story. Do you know what I mean?
Chase: There's Billy and his mom. She said we could have a play date after she got done shopping. Could I go?
Aiden: Okay. But we're gonna finish this conversation later, okay?
Jennifer: JJ, I love you so much. And I know that you don't want to open up to me because you're so afraid of how I'll react or--or--or what I'll think. But you don't have to worry. There is nothing that you can't confide in me, nothing. That I won't try to help you with.
JJ: Really? 'Cause I was thinking that I would help with my college expenses by holding up a few liquor stores.
Jennifer: That is not even funny. I'm serious, you--you need help. I can see it. Please, baby, just tell me what it is. I am the one person who will always be on your side.
Eve: J--JJ said that he slept with somebody else? I mean, he said that out loud, Paige? You're not just thinking that?
Paige: No, mom, he told me that. That's not all. He slept with someone I know.
Abigail: Hi. Have you heard from Jordan? Is she still mad at you?
Ben: No, I haven't even seen her. I figured she showed up to that meeting with Anne. Why, she didn't?
Abigail: No, I haven't heard a word from her. I thought she was with you.
Ben: No, I haven't heard anything either. Where the hell is she?
Jordan: You're just making up lies like you always do. No!
Clyde: It is time you face up to what you did, girl. You not only killed your own momma, she was pregnant. That's what she told you! And that's what made you do what you did. You killed the baby she was carrying, and you knew you were doing it. You killed your own momma. And you killed our baby boy right along with her.
