Clyde: Detective Hernandez? Oh, I'm sorry, that was a little insensitive of me, wasn't it? Since you're no longer on the force anymore, are you? Guess that makes you a regular citizen now, doesn't it? Just like me.
Abigail: So I just got the confirmation call.
Ben: So it's really happening, huh?
Abigail: Yes, it's really happening--the hospital is making the official announcement today about Jordan's and my new program.
Chad: Wow, that is fantastic news, Abby. Yeah, nothing matters more to me than seeing Jordan get what she wants.
Jordan: Don't push through the pain, Paul. It's not--
Paul: It's not worth it? Since I'll never be able to pitch again. But you already knew that.
Jordan: There were some indications that your arm wasn't healing the way it needed to for you to play baseball again. When did you find out?
Paul: Day after Christmas.
Jordan: Have you told anyone?
Paul: One person, yeah.
Will: Arianna's napping.
Kate: Oh, well, as much as I would like to see the baby, I really came over here to talk about Paul Narita, to see how things went. Did you get what you wanted out of him?
Sonny: [Sighs] Why'd you ask me to meet here?
Victor: Well, I'm interested in hearing what you think of the place.
Serena: Cannot blow this.
Nicole: So Serena mason...
Ted: She has a great reputation, terrific journalist, always in pursuit of the truth. But personally and professionally, she's a total fraud.
Nicole: Look, usually I only do exposes on politicians, CEOs, celebrities. I mean, Serena mason is a medical journalist who no one knows outside of her field. She doesn't exactly drive ratings.
Ted: I'm suggesting it's probably in your best interest to listen to the story before you decide it isn't worth your time.
Nicole: Okay, look, full disclosure, I actually know this woman.
Ted: How well?
[Knock at door]
Derrick: You asked for ice?
Serena: Yes, actually, I want to talk to you about something.
Derrick: Oh, well, I'm kind of busy right now, but...
Serena: Well, I spoke to your manager, and I saw that you were working the night that Nicole walker got into my room. In fact, you let her in, didn't you?
Rafe: You're right. I may not be on the force anymore, but I'm nothing like you.
Clyde: Now, what is that supposed to mean? Do you think you're better than me, ex-detective Hernandez, huh? Well, then go ahead. Take your best shot.
Sonny: Since when do you want my advice on anything?
Victor: Oh, come on, Sonny, this is your bailiwick, no? You're the family resident expert on this kind of business.
Sonny: Well, if failing miserably makes me an expert, then you're right. I'm your guy.
Victor: You didn't fail miserably, you had a setback, that's all.
Sonny: And for some reason, right on the heels of that setback, I'm sitting here with you in the middle of a brand-new club.
Victor: Because I still have faith in you, Sonny. I think--
Sonny: Just stop, please. I don't want to hear some B.S. Intended to boost my ego or protect my pride or whatever. Please do us both a favor and just tell me the truth.
Will: This, um--this thing-- article about Paul Narita, it's still--it's, uh--it's still kind of unsettled.
Kate: "Unsettled"? I thought that you were going to interview him again.
Will: I did.
Kate: Did you lose your nerve?
Kate: Honey, I told you, you had to ask him the tough questions if you want to get the story. I mean, that's the only way you're gonna find out who he really is. Sweetie, articles about him being a free agent are everywhere, not just on the sports pages. Paul Narita is a big deal. This whole article, it could make your career take off.
Will: I know that, grandma. And I did everything I could to make that happen.
Paul: I mean, it's really rough. One day you're totally confident and everything's going your way. And then suddenly it's all over. I mean, not that I have any right to feel sorry for myself. I mean, I've been really lucky. It's just, uh... I guess it'll just take time to adjust to this new reality.
Jordan: Paul, listen, I have no idea what is must feel like, what you're going through, but you have so much to be proud of yourself for. You had an amazing run as a ball player. And you are gonna find a different path. And you are gonna find something else that you're passionate about.
Anne: Jordan, I need to speak to you, ASAP. And by that, I mean right this minute.
Jordan: I'll see you tomorrow.
Paul: I'll be here. Thanks, Jordan.
Abigail: So they've scheduled a press conference-- a very small one, thankfully-- to announce the new program. Jordan and I will be there, and Seth burns, and a few reporters.
Ben: Well, it's a good way to get the word out.
Abigail: Yeah, exactly. To the people who really need our services.
Chad: When, actually, is this happening?
Ben: And why, exactly, do you care?
Chad: Well, for one, I'm on the hospital board. And I want to be there to support Jordan, I know how much this means to her.
Abigail: Um, well, it's in 45 minutes.
Chad: Great, I'll see you there.
Chad: Uh, Ben, why don't you coordinate your coffee delivery to the hospital so you can be there too, for Abigail?
Anne: Well clearly, you are the brains behind this project. Because Abigail Deveraux is sorely lacking in the brains department. I'm sorry, too soon?
Jordan: You know, I'm really busy today and so indulging you in your very particular brand of charm isn't high on my to-do list.
Anne: I just think this is a crowning achievement for you, Jordan. To have your very own charity at such a young age. I would like to know more about it.
Jordan: Like what? Well, I'm on a mission here from Seth burns. He wants me to gather all pertinent facts about your little project before the press conference starts.
Jordan: "Pertinent facts"?
Anne: Well, let's start with the mystery donor. I mean, of course, I understand why he's chosen to stay anonymous.
Jordan: And in your esteemed opinion, why would that be?
Anne: Uh, what fool would fund a project Abigail Deveraux would be running?
Rafe: Whoa! We're different, see, that's all I'm saying. You're a real renaissance man. You've got this, uh-- this trucking company, and you've got a nightclub in Branson, which is, apparently, half empty on a good night. I mean, you've got it all going on, don't you?
Clyde: You know, having this little chat with you, I'm beginning to understand why they kicked you off the force. And why you can't seem to hold on to a woman. Now I'm just guessing here, but I'm thinking no one can figure out just what the hell you're talking about.
Rafe: Oh, you didn't get my drift?
Clyde: Like I give a damn what your drift is.
Rafe: Oh, right, right. Well here's the thing. You obviously don't give a damn about anything or anyone. And that's my drift. You see? You're a lucky man. And some might say you're even a little too lucky.
Nicole: Oh, I've met Serena. In passing.
Ted: Then you don't know her very well.
Nicole: No, I don't.
Ted: Well, I can fill you in on what she's all about.
Nicole: You know what? I'm not interested. That woman is just not on my radar. I'm with Daniel now. Eric and his little friend are not my problem. Sally, you know what? There's something to be said about this "doing the right thing" thing.
Sally: Oh, so I've heard.
Nicole: I have a date with Daniel Jonas tonight.
Sally: Mm. And you look very depressed about that.
Nicole: [Laughs] It's officially my primary focus. All I need is a killer dress. To go along with my sensational personality. Okay, I'll see you later.
Sally: Go get 'em, girlfriend.
Nicole: Thank you. Wee!
Derrick: Um, you know, I don't--I didn't--
Serena: Do you want me to go get your manager?
Derrick: No! Please. I need this job.
Serena: I understand. And the last thing I want to see is you get fired over this. So... tell me everything that happened the night Nicole convinced you to help her look through my things. From the beginning.
Will: I'm sorry. I've been under a lot of pressure from my editor. And so I guess I'm just really sensitive about how I'm doing my job.
Kate: Oh, honey, that's okay. Actually, I'm the one who should be sorry. I walked in here and I put even more pressure on you.
Will: No, no, no, you're pushing me to be my best, that's all.
Kate: Yes, for yourself. And for Arianna and for Sonny. Speaking of, what's going on with the club, with the club on the Southside?
Will: We've both been so busy, we've barely talked about it. I was hoping to see him here, but when I arrived it was just Arianna and the sitter.
Kate: Where is he?
Will: He texted me. He said that he was gonna go see his uncle Victor.
Victor: I mentioned to bill Breck that you were interested in the nightclub.
Victor: The same guy who correctly informed me that your last venture was doomed.
Sonny: Well, the guy is clairvoyant, obviously.
Victor: You want to know what he thinks of this place? Well, apparently a man with a lifelong dream to own a nightclub was in the midst of getting ready to open this place. Everything was going beautifully and then, pfft.
Sonny: Lost his funding.
Victor: Died in an accident.
Sonny: Oh, my God.
Victor: It's been sitting here empty. His wife wants nothing to do with it.
Sonny: You think I do?
Clyde: You're right. I am a lucky man. My businesses are growing and I have absolutely nothing to hide. So if there is any little thing you want to find out about me, step right up and ask.
Rafe: Oh, well, I'll remember that.
Clyde: It'd be more efficient that way. Since you can't use your badge to go digging around in my past like you used to. You have a nice day.
Ben: I just hope Jordan doesn't ever find out that Clyde is the anonymous donor.
Abigail: No, no, listen. Clyde had a lawyer make absolutely certain that all of this would be kept a secret. And the only other people that know about it are you and me. And neither one of us are ever gonna say anything to Jordan, right?
Ben: I hope you're right. If my sister ever found out, it would just kill her.
Jordan: Abigail is not only a friend, she is someone I respect enormously.
Jordan: And my project with her is going to help this community. That is our goal.
Anne: Do you think this is my first time at the good cause rodeo, Jordan?
Jordan: You know, the thought's crossed my mind, Anne.
Anne: Look, people with a project like this, they start off all excited and altruistic, okay? And then, "the community" gets sloppy seconds after everybody else takes their cut. Trust me, I'm not just blowing smoke.
Jordan: You're blowing something.
Anne: Well, I have Seth burns' ear on this and I am going to yell in it.
Jordan: For what?
Anne: I want him to pull the plug on your project.
Jordan: What? Why?
Anne: Because I am not going to stand by and wait for another chapter of Deveraux embarrassments to cheapen the reputation of university hospital.
Jordan: If you think I am going to let you get away with this, you are dead wrong.
Chad: Hey, you.
Jordan: Well, hey. What are you doing here?
Chad: Well, I heard your big new. And I didn't to steal your thunder, but is it okay if I'm here for the big announcement?
Jordan: Well it is only right that you should be. But Chad, you need to know that--
Abigail: Uh, excuse me, Jordan. Hey, I got your message. Is everything okay with the project?
Jordan: Everything's okay, but I had to make a judgment call without you.
Anne: I've given it some thought and I am going to take you up on your offer, Jordan.
Abigail: What offer?
Kate: Yes, yes, thank you for telling me. Well, I have to get to a meeting.
Kate: Honey, you are such a talented writer. You really are. It's just, sometimes, I think you're too nice. Sweetie, people respect toughness. They really do. So don't stop pushing Paul Narita. Especially if you think you're getting close to breaking through. And tell me what happens with Sonny.
Will: I'll tell him that you were asking.
Kate: Okay. I'm so proud of you. I really am. Now and always.
Will: You wouldn't be so proud of me if you knew the truth.
Victor: You can make the place your own. I mean, it's a perfect location. Trendy neighborhood. A lot of young, successful people.
Sonny: I'm not interested.
Victor: Why the hell not?
Sonny: I know you don't get it, but this was something I was trying to do on my own.
Victor: With Chad DiMera's money is doing it on your own?
Sonny: So that is what this is about? You're still ticked off that I'm partners with Chad? That he's my friend?
Victor: Oh, come on, Sonny. Don't let that lying creep convince you he's your friend.
Sonny: Don't go there, uncle Vic, please.
Victor: Then don't walk away from an opportunity because of your damn pride!
Sonny: I'm sorry. But I cannot let you buy this place for me.
Victor: Too late.
Victor: I already bought it.
Sonny: [Sighs] Well, good luck with it, uncle vic. You're gonna need it.
Nicole: Oh... hi... again.
Serena: Are you stalking me, Nicole?
Nicole: What? Are you kidding? Why would you think I'd be--
Serena: Could you please get a life? And stay the hell out of mine?
Serena: I'm just supposed to believe that you happen to be here when I'm here? You're gonna tell me that's a coincidence?
Nicole: That's exactly what it is. I'm not stalking you, okay?
Serena: I have a little more recon on your break into my hotel room.
Nicole: Look, Serena, that was a misunderstanding and--
Serena: Is that what you told Melanie? Yeah, I know all about that part of the story, too. Not that I should be surprised that you would get a friend of mine, really the only other friend I have in Salem besides Eric to do your dirty work and lie for you.
Nicole: If you just let me explain you would see that--
Serena: Explain what? Why you broke into my hotel room? And got caught? And used the "I'm just leaving flowers and an apology note" excuse? You bribed a bellboy to open the damn door for you.
Nicole: Okay, no one got hurt, no harm done. Come on, let's just put this behind us, it's not a big deal--
Serena: Oh, no. I am not putting this behind us. You want to know why? Because I see you for the lethal, toxic snake that you are. Because you wrecked Eric's life.
Will: Damn it. I can't just out Paul Narita. It's very important for people to realize that people that they know--people that they-- that they know, they respect, that they idolize-- some of them of them are also gay.
Will: Paul, you have a chance to make a huge impact. Unless that's what he really wants.
Paul: I'm glad I caught you 'cause you need to know something.
Paul: Me. But you have to keep it to yourself.
Sonny: A secret.
Sonny: Well, you know I'm good at those. What is it?
Paul: My surgery... it didn't work. I mean, not the way we wanted it to. I'll never pitch again.
Sonny: Oh, Paul. Are you--are they sure?
Paul: My career is dead, Sonny. It's over.
Victor: Just do your research, will you? Find out what that swine is trying to pull and get back to me.
Victor: Hillbilly son of a bitch.
Rafe: Let me guess. Clyde Weston?
Victor: That man is officially on my last nerve.
Clyde: So all of our trucks hit their targets, right? No strays? Good. And we got paid cash on delivery? [Chuckles] Don't you worry. I know just how to put all that extra revenue to good use.
Abigail: I--I'm not sure I understand.
Anne: What's to understand? Ms. Ridgeway asked me to be the watchdog on this project and I graciously accepted.
Jordan: Which makes us really lucky because I have no doubts that ms. Milbauer will make sure not a cent of the money granted to us will be wasted.
Abigail: Right. Okay. Yup. That is very helpful. Absolutely, no doubt.
Anne: Damn right it will be. I happen to be an excellent money manager. I thought about being a financial planner but I like being around people too much and I didn't like the isolation of that career path.
Jordan: Right. Definitely a people person.
Abigail: Sure, a people-- yeah, such a people person.
Anne: Seth needs me so just wait here and do not even think about starting without me.
Jordan: I am sorry I had no time to warn you about this.
Abigail: No, Jordan, I totally get it. Keep your friends close and your enemies on top of you, right?
Ben: Enemies? Who's got enemies?
Abigail: Uh, hey.
Anne: Okay, listen up. Seth burns has some business outside of the hospital but he asked me to take over and go ahead with the announcement. These are local new reporters. Oh, and I'm delighted. We have a distinguished board member here who can witness the historic, groundbreaking of this beautiful program that will be under my guidance.
Chad: At your service.
Kate: Actually, you have a second board member here. And this one isn't signing off on any of this. Introducing dance-all-you want bladder leak protection.
Sonny: I'm so sorry, Paul. Did you just find out?
Paul: A week ago. Well, I've been trying to tell you. When I said that things between us could be different now.
Sonny: Because you're not in the public eye anymore.
Paul: Right. Look, Sonny, I've-- I've been getting mixed messages from you.
Sonny: What do you mean?
Paul: Well, it's just that, in spite of everything that you're saying, I mean, you're still finding ways to see me.
Sonny: You're reading into that all wrong. I'm married, okay? End of story.
Paul: But are you happy? I mean in this marriage.
Sonny: Relationships are work. Even the good ones. My husband and I, we try to work through our stuff. We are honest with each other every day. And after what you and I went through--I'm telling-- honesty's a deal breaker for me.
Paul: We're getting off track here.
Sonny: It's all the same track. That's always your excuse for not dealing with the real issue.
Paul: Which , according to you, is what?
Sonny: Being a baseball player and not coming out 'cause you don't want to get hassled. That's always one of your excuses for hiding.
Paul: I'm telling you, if my family knew--
Sonny: They why are you talking about "us" now that you're not pitching? You're still going to hide who you are no matter who you're with.
Paul: My grandfather's old school, Sonny.
Sonny: I don't care that your grandfather is old school. He is your family and he should love you for you who are. And I think you're underestimating him and your mom. Let me tell you the truth. The person who has the biggest problem with people knowing you're gay... is you. I'm really, really sorry about your arm.
Anne: Uh, what seems to be the problem, ms. Roberts?
Kate: Well, the problem is that these two completely inexperienced young women should not be in control of such a large sum of money.
Anne: Which is why I am overseeing the project and I have age, though it's not readily apparent, and experience over both of them. Mm-hmm.
Kate: Well, your oversight is not enough.
Abigail: Wait, this is--
Chad: Kate, what is this really about?
Kate: Okay, well, for starters, how do you think our anonymous donor, who so generously funded this project would feel about it being dropped into the laps of two children?
Jordan: Okay, now you are really pushing it.
Kate: What are your qualifications to run a foundation, Jordan? Do you have any?
Chad: Kate, you know the board actually has no say in this.
Kate: According to you.
Can we get back to the anonymous donor?
Yes, are you saying this person has no idea--
Who has authority over the money?
Or what the money's being used for.
Anne: No, yes, of course the donor knows, right?
Kate: Well, until I can personally speak with said donor to make sure that they have signed off on who's been chosen to run it, I think it would really be prudent to put all of this on hold.
Anne: Prudent? No, the word is pointless. That's ridiculous.
Jordan: Anne is right, it is ridiculous and pointless to put all of this on hold. Especially when the donor knows where the money is going.
Kate: Really? Is that true?
Jordan: The donor knows everything. Okay? And he has full faith in ms. Deveraux and myself to enact his wishes.
Kate: And how on earth could you know that, ms. Ridgeway, if the donor is, in fact, anonymous?
Jordan: Chad, I know you didn't want to tell anyone, but you see what's happening here. So please just tell her.
Kate: [Laughs] You're the donor? Why am I not surprised?
Rafe: So what did Clyde Weston do to tick you off?
Victor: Let's just say he's venturing into areas where he doesn't belong. And I'm more than a little ticked off with him. Son of a bitch is gonna rue the day he ever crossed me.
Rafe: I'll bet he will. Listen, if this is uh, about seeing me for the security position--
Victor: Oh, forget about that, I want to talk to you about this place. My new nightclub.
Rafe: Your nightclub?
Victor: What do you think of it? First impression.
Rafe: Uh, it's nice. Good location. Why?
Victor: I want you to run it for me.
Serena: See, I spent some serious time with Eric today. And as much as I wish this wasn't the case, what you did to him has profoundly changed him. Your sick and twisted version of love has left scars that may never heal.
Nicole: I'm out of here.
Serena: But you deny all responsibility, don't you? You don't apologize for the havoc you wreak in people's lives. You probably thought Eric had it coming.
Nicole: Excuse me, that is the last thing I think. I respected Eric. I still do. I loved him with all my heart. He is one of the best people that I know.
Serena: That's very touching. And very pathetic. Because you are one of the worst people Eric knows. And he will never forgive you for what you've done. Or trust you. In fact, he can't trust anyone anymore, thanks to you.
Nicole: Get out of my way.
Serena: I am not going to give up on Eric. I will make sure that he heals. And I will make sure that he can be happy again.
Nicole: With you? Well, that's a long shot, considering the mean-spirited bitch that you are.
Serena: I won't let Eric down. Ever. So here's the deal, Nicole, stay out of my room, out of my things, and out of my life, and his. Or you'll pay a very high price.
Will: Hey. Wow. Finally. We are in the same room together. I thought that you'd been avoiding me because of new year's eve. Sonny, I'm really sorry that I did not make it home in time for midnight. Sonny, can we talk? There is something that I need to tell you.
Sonny: Will, there's something I have to tell you first. [Sighs] I lost everything. The Southside club totally tanked. I ran out of cash before I could finish it. Before I could recoup the money I borrowed from our accounts. It's all gone. The new club and basically all of our money is--it's gone.
Sonny: Please let that go to voicemail.
Will: I can't. I have to finish my article, Sonny. Now, more than ever, I need to work for us, don't I?
[Phone continues to ring]
Sonny: I'm going to go check on our daughter.
Paul: I made up my mind. I'll do it.
Will: Are you sure?
Paul: I can't lie about myself my entire life. Might as well tell the whole world about me at once, right?
Rafe: Well, I worked in a club before I joined the FBI, but I sure as hell never ran one.
Victor: You worked in a club, that's good enough.
Victor: The place is already staffed. I bought the liquor license when I bought the building. All we need is supplies. Then we schedule a big opening. You put on a white tuxedo jacket like rick in Casablanca.
Rafe: [Chuckles] That's it, huh?
Victor: Well, you make sure the staff is not skimming from the cash drawer and you shake some hands. You said you needed a job.
Rafe: Yeah, I do but... what about Sonny? This is what he does.
Victor: He turned me down flat.
Rafe: You bought this place for him?
Victor: That's immaterial. I bought it, I got a good deal, but I'm not about to run it myself.
Rafe: What, you're leaving?
Victor: I'm not gonna stand here and beg you. Either you want the job or you don't. And quite frankly, if you don't, I don't know how the hell you're gonna make a living.
A DiMera is behind a hospital program again?
Anne: The DiMeras have always been very generous with their money here, and I would like to personally thank you and your family for continuing this fine and noble tradition.
Ben: Excuse me, Anne. You're not gonna stand here and take credit for this are you?
Jordan: Ben, he did it. He didn't want anyone to know about it.
Kate: Ben, are you accusing Chad of lying?
Chad: Okay, just wait I--
Kate: I think it's painfully obvious what happened here. Jordan influenced Chad to donate funds. She used persuasion to solicit cash from Mr. DiMera, apparently.
Ben: Chad DiMera is not the anonymous donor. My father is.
Clyde: Mr. Kiriakis. To what do I owe this--
Victor: Stuff it, Clyde. I want to see you right now.
Serena: Hi. Sorry I haven't gotten back to you yet. Nothing here in Salem has been going the way I thought it would. But I just made something very clear to someone a few minutes ago so I don't anticipate anymore problems moving forward.
Sally: Second thoughts on the dress already?
Nicole: No, the dress is great. I just wasn't in the shopping mood anymore when I ran into that bitch who thinks she's better than me and is more than happy to tell me how much.
Sally: Well, the best revenge is to be happy. And who's going on a date with Dr. Jonas tonight? You or that nasty woman you ran into?
Nicole: Mm. Me!
Sally: Who's the queen?
Nicole: Me. Me. Me. Me. Thanks.
Nicole: I am a queen. And I can have my cake and eat it too, damn it. Hi, it's Nicole walker and um, you know, I did some thinking after we hung up--and have you talked to anyone else about the story you've got on Serena mason?
Ted: I've left messages for people. But you're still my first choice. I know you by reputation, which is to say, I know you're not afraid to get your hands dirty. Does this mean you're interested?
Nicole: Let's just say I'm... I'm thinking it over.
