Eric: I don't know why Theresa would have a baby rattle. I mean, she does work at a hospital.
Serena: You know what? Let's not talk about your relatives anymore. Let's talk about something that's a lot more important.
Eric: Like what? Where we're headed?
Serena: Actually... it's about something you owe me.
[Keys clacking rapidly]
Maggie: Oh, sorry. [Chuckles] I didn't mean to interrupt.
Brady: No, no, you're not interrupting me. Stop. Just finishing up.
Maggie: You're obviously feeling better.
Maggie: When you came home from the hospital, you were really upset.
Brady: Oh, ye--yeah, that. It's fine.
Maggie: Did you go to a meeting?
Brady: No, I did not go to a meeting, but you're right. I am definitely feeling better.
Sonny: I love it. And I love you. No, Paul needs this.
Eric: I owe you?
Serena: Yes, I found this when I was packing to come back to the states. Several years ago, you lost a bet, fella.
Serena: Found an I.O.U.
Eric: Yeah, that's my signature, all right.
Serena: Mm-hmm. Yeah, you promised me any photograph I wanted 'cause you thought you'd win so much.
Eric: And apparently, I didn't.
Eric: I'm obviously not the only loser. You failed to collect.
Serena: Yeah, well... today is gonna be my day.
Theresa: Here's your damn form.
Melanie: Theresa, why are you crying?
Paul: [Whispering] Whoever it is, they'll go away.
[Knock at door]
Will: [Whispering] What if they don't?
Paul: They will.
Lucas: There you go. I got some good stuff for you-- some nice tea. Make you feel better, okay?
Adrienne: You know what's made me feel better? Talking to you. I haven't said a word about what's been going on between Justin and me to anyone... except you.
Will: I should go.
Paul: No, don't.
Will: Seriously... I have things that I need to take care of, and this... this should... this can't happen again.
Paul: Why? Because you're writing an article on me?
Will: No... for a lot of reasons.
Derrick: Hey, there. Can I help you?
Sonny: Uh, hi. Um... no, I was just gonna leave this for Paul, but he's not here.
Derrick: I can take it, give it to him when he gets in.
Sonny: No offense--it's kind of valuable. Maybe you could let me in and I could set it on the desk or something?
Nicole: You want to hear a promise?
Daniel: Mm. What?
Nicole: [Exhales deeply] Um... I will never, ever hurt you again.
Daniel: That's... that's good to hear. But you don't have to worry about hurting me. I won't let you.
Serena: Wait. Um, this cannot be your entire collection. Where's the rest of it? Don't tell me you gave it all away when you became a priest.
Eric: Hey, I thought you were here to see my photographs. [Chuckles] Wha--hey, that's--
Serena: Or maybe... I just wanted us to be alone.
Brady: Maggie, I'm--I'm good. I'm facing my feelings. I'm not wandering around just waiting for things to happen to me anymore, good or bad, and I'm making realistic decisions about my life-- yeah, that's what I'm doing-- and where it's going.
Maggie: Which hasn't always been the case.
Maggie: So... decisions about your life. It sounds like you're ready for something new.
Brady: Yeah. Yes, I am.
Melanie: Is this yours?
Theresa: Oh, what the hell is wrong with you? Of course it's not mine. You know, some idiot mother left it here, and--
Theresa: What? It's not my fault if--so what if I care if some helpless, poor baby needs it and its mother doesn't even care? I mean, what if some baby needs to hold that and needs to hear it and the mother just doesn't give a damn? You know, babies, they're just so...
Melanie: Theresa, did you have a child?
Daniel: Okay. [Chuckles] Listen...
Daniel: Oh... you--you are who you are. I get it, I accept it, 100%. I'm not gonna try to fix you. I'm not gonna to try to save you... change you in any way. I am... I am done coming to the rescue.
Daniel: You know, I hope you always feel... the way you feel about me right now. But how you feel about me is not going to define me.
Nicole: Got it.
Daniel: I'm just not gonna let us... hurt each other ever again, which is why this is the one and only time we have to get something absolutely... straight about Eric.
Eric: Serena... I'm sorry. I can't do this.
Maggie: As long as you're happy, I'm happy too.
Brady: Thank you, Maggie.
Maggie: Okay. One little piece of advice...
Brady: [Clears throat] Sure.
Maggie: Addicts like us... even good changes are hard to handle. So don't do anything rash, okay? Slow and steady, okay?
Brady: Slow and steady... okay.
Brady: All right. [Sighs] You've only been sober a couple months, Brady. Maybe you should slow the hell down. A person like you, is that even... is that even fair to Melanie? No, to hell with the phone. Face your feelings. Tell her in person.
Theresa: Where the hell do you get off asking me a question like that?
Melanie: I just--I thought-- I mean, it's a baby rattle--
Theresa: Yeah, and what, that makes you think that I had a kid? And what, I gave it up, or--or I-I had an abortion?
Melanie: No, no, I--
Theresa: You know, screw you and your pity. You are just like your lame father, with your fake caring and your fake sympathy. You know, I can't stand it.
Melanie: Fine. Forget it.
Theresa: I came in here, and I gave you your form, and you didn't even thank me. All you wanted to do was play "poor Theresa." You know what? I'm out of here.
Melanie: You're right. I'm sorry. Thank y--
Lucas: Yeah, that's me-- the guy that women feel they can open up to, feel comfortable around, kind of like an old shoe.
Adrienne: [Laughs] No. Oh, stop. That was a compliment.
Lucas: Well, then I'll take it--thank you. I mean, I'm glad you feel you could talk to me like that.
Adrienne: Well, you know, we haven't always seen eye to eye.
Adrienne: No, but... you've always been very honest with me... and sensitive.
Lucas: "Sensitive"? Me?
Lucas: Wow. I like that. Tell that to my ex-wives, please.
Adrienne: [Laughing] You've had some doozies.
Lucas: Yeah, I've had doozies. In a word, yes.
Adrienne: That would be the word.
Adrienne: You know, you should be in the Guinness book of world records. Seriously, you've survived, let's see, um, Carrie...
Adrienne: Nicole, Chloe. Let's not even mention Sami.
Lucas: Yeah, let's not do that.
Adrienne: Yeah, let's not.
Lucas: Well, who says I survived? You know, still licking wounds.
Adrienne: Well, then you must be made of steel. [Chuckles] Seriously, though, thank you.
Lucas: Why do you keep doing that? Why do you keep thanking me when I'm the one who's upset you?
Adrienne: Well, no, I do that to myself on a daily basis. You at least made me laugh. [Laughs] And I'm good now.
Lucas: Yeah, well, when our granddaughter gets back, you'll be even better.
Paul: Will... I've got to know--why can't we see each other again?
Will: [Sighs] It's complicated.
Paul: How? We're two people who enjoy each other's company, right?
Paul: Then where's the problem?
Derrick: Let you in? I don't know, man. You planning on robbing him or something?
Sonny: Of course not.
Derrick: Relax. I was joking. Yeah, I'll just have to stay with you, okay?
Sonny: Yeah, it's just gonna take a second.
Serena: Eric... I know you said you're over Nicole... but are you? Are you really?
Daniel: What is happening between you and me... it's a process. And we're exploring. We're--we're seeing what kind of commitment we have for each other.
Daniel: As far as I'm concerned, there cannot be any lying. We have to be totally honest every step of the way... and not just for you... but for me too. And if I realize... that you aren't really over Eric... we're done... for good... because that'll be the best thing for both of us.
Maggie: Well, hi, honey. [Laughing]
Melanie: Hi. Hi, Grandma.
Maggie: What's going on?
Melanie: Nothing. I'm fine. I couldn't be better. Um... I was just thinking about the baby that Philip and I lost.
Brady: Excuse me. Hi. Is, uh, Melanie Jonas around?
I can check. Give me a sec.
Brady: Thank you.
Theresa: My God, are you planning on coming here all the time?
Brady: If I feel like it, yeah.
Theresa: Well, I thought you said that you didn't want to be near me, or you didn't even want to see me--except I work here, so I have to be here. So why don't you see your great friend Melanie Jonas somewhere else?
Brady: You're right. No, it's a good point. It's a good point. I'll do it from now on, and thank you for the reminder.
Theresa: The reminder of what?
Brady: Of how toxic you really are.
Paul: What the hell's going on?
Derrick: Oh, man, I am so sorry. He said you weren't here, and he wanted to give you something, so I-- damn, I really messed up.
Sonny: No, seriously, Paul, it's not his fault. I knocked on the door. When you didn't answer, I assumed you weren't here. Obviously this is a bad time.
Paul: Yeah, I, uh... was getting ready to hop in the shower.
Will: [Breathing heavily]
Paul: You can go. It's okay.
Derrick: I'm--I'm just so sorry. I didn't know.
Paul: Uh, what is it that you wanted to give me?
Sonny: I shouldn't have shown up like this. I was going through some old boxes, and I found this.
Paul: My home run ball? Don't you want to keep it?
Sonny: Well, it's not that. It's just--it's a big deal to you personally. And who knows when you'll hit another one?
Paul: Try never.
Sonny: Sorry. I just was making a joke about it.
Paul: Sonny, I wanted you to have this. I thought about you again this Christmas, how happy you were when I gave it to you. It just means so much to me... knowing that you have a part of me.
Sonny: Thanks. It's not that I didn't care about it. It's just--you and I aren't together anymore and... thanks again.
Paul: You're welcome. Now I have to jump in the shower, 'cause I am a little late, and, uh--
[Shower stops running]
Paul: Sonny, I--
Sonny: No, you don't--you don't have to explain yourself. I got to go.
Daniel: Never again.
Nicole: Okay. We have to be honest.
Daniel: Absolutely. I mean, we just... we have a history. And we can't--we can't get into this, you know, with a bunch of illusions and lies. Understand?
Nicole: I got it. Yeah.
Nicole: And trust me... that was an honest kiss.
Daniel: Thank you for letting me say all that.
Nicole: Yeah. I mean, you're right. You know, it's important that... that we stay... that we stay on top of things.
Daniel: And thank you for, uh, you know, this tremendous date you set up.
Nicole: You're welcome.
Daniel: [Laughs] And Melanie's actually on her way home, so... maybe--
Nicole: Oh, yes.
Nicole: I got that too. I should get to work, anyway.
Daniel: Yeah, uh, hey, hey, uh...
Daniel: Look, I-I still haven't broken the news to anybody about us, so...
Nicole: So you're saying you want me to keep this a secret?
Daniel: No, no, no, no, no. Just don't tweet to the whole world in the next 15 minutes.
Nicole: Okay, okay.
Daniel: I mean, maybe--maybe, I don't know, later tonight... I ask you out on a dreaded, dreaded date.
Nicole: Okay. Fine. Fine.
Daniel: Too strong?
Eric: Yes. Yes, I'm completely over Nicole.
Serena: I really do hope so... 'cause I want this to work for us.
Eric: I do too.
Serena: Okay. Ah, photos, photos, photos! Let's see... wow. This guy really can use a camera. That's it, yes. That's--that's the one.
Serena: Seriously. And since it took you so long to pay back your I.O.U., You owe me interest. I want it framed.
Eric: You drive a hard bargain. Deal.
Maggie: Honey... why did you suddenly start thinking about your baby? It isn't an anniversary, is it?
Melanie: No. No, no, no, no, I just, uh... [Chuckles] Um, I found this at the hospital, and I guess it triggered something.
Maggie: Of course.
Melanie: Do you know if I hadn't miscarried... our child would be almost as old as Parker?
Maggie: I'm so sorry.
Melanie: Don't be. It doesn't matter. I mean, it does-- it does, obviously. Philip and I weren't right, and the baby wasn't meant to be, so the end, right? Still, though, if a woman came across something like this at the hospital... it would remind her of what she had lost.
Maggie: Melanie, are we talking about you or someone else?
[Cell phone rings]
Maggie: Oh, hold on here. Oh, dear. Oh, dear, oh, dear! Victor is taking me to the skating championships in Chicago, and if I--you know, if I don't get ready in time, I'll never hear the end of it. Um... okay, are you sure that you're okay?
Melanie: Yes, I promise. I'm fi--I'm not dwelling in the past. In fact, right now everything's about the future.
Maggie: Anything in particular?
Melanie: I'll have to get back to you on that. [Chuckles]
Maggie: Well, okay, I got to go.
Maggie: Okay, bye.
Theresa: God help me. Now we're alone. You can call me every name in the book, and no one will hear, so just go for it, Brady. Hey, you know what? Why don't you pretend like you're at one of your A.A. Meetings for the self-righteous losers. And, hey, you could start with a list of all my faults, because it is really long.
Brady: Are you--are you done?
Theresa: Yeah, and as soon as I'm done finishing my coffee, I'm gone. Or you know what? Maybe--maybe I'll just throw it in your face, and then I'll leave, hmm?
Brady: It's like, every time I see you, you're just--
Theresa: Right, 'cause I'm just what, so hateful, it's pathetic, isn't it? And what was that word that you used for me--"toxic"? [Scoffs]
Theresa: Like I deserved that, Brady.
Brady: Well, then let's think about that. Aside from almost killing my father, letting me think that I did it, and then pulling that fake pregnancy-- yeah, yeah, I think you have a pretty big history. But you know what really blows about the whole thing? The worst thing of all is that you knew I was an addict, Theresa. I told you.
Theresa: What, and so--so now that's my fault--
Brady: No, it's not your fault! I'm to blame for everything-- every line, every drink. I take responsibility for it, but you set me up every chance you got, every single-- even when I said no, you pushed it on me, and you would say "Brady, oh, you've got to have some more. I mean, this is great. Oh, my God, it feels so terrific." Everything you said and you did was the worst thing you could have possibly done for me, but you didn't give a damn as long as you got what you wanted. And I got to tell you, right now--actually, every minute of every day, I am so happy that I'm done with all of that... and done with you.
Sonny: Janet isn't back with Ari yet?
Adrienne: Oh, no, she just called. She's actually on her way back.
Lucas: Yeah, I thought will would be back by now.
Sonny: Yeah, so did I.
Paul: Damn. [Sighs]
Will: What did you say?
Will: Was someone here? Paul... is everything okay? Your eyes really are unique.
Will: Look, if this is about me leaving, it's--just know it's because I was here longer than I planned for. I-I have things I have to take care of.
Paul: Sure. Understood. You have a life.
Will: Yeah, everyone has-- even you.
Paul: Yeah, at this moment, I'm kind of finding that hard to believe right now.
Will: Look, Paul, just because you can't pitch anymore doesn't mean your life is over.
Paul: Pitching was my life!
Will: I thought you were at peace with that.
Paul: I did too. I guess not. I mean, I think about moving on, and it just scares the hell out of me.
Will: The unknown is scary. But you're not broke, right?
Paul: No, I'm set. Question is, for what kind of life?
Will: Okay, so come on, you can't throw a baseball better than anybody else anymore. Now, for you personally, it's a tragedy. But in the big picture...
Paul: Not so much.
Will: You're a great guy, Paul. And you have a chance to make a huge difference in a lot of people's lives.
Daniel: Hey, you're home.
Melanie: I am. I ran into grandma. Victor's taking her to Chicago to some ice-skating thing?
Daniel: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. She's gonna love that.
Daniel: You know what? Uh, yeah...
Melanie: What are you--
Daniel: Look, I'm glad you're home. I need to be up front with you about--about something.
Daniel: Okay, now, this is not going to get in the way of your staying here. I want you here as long as you possibly want to stay. But you need to know that I'm going to be-- no, actually, I already started... seeing Nicole.
Nicole: Hang on. I got another call here. You know, I'm supposed to be hard at work. All right, hold on. Hello?
Man: Is this Nicole walker?
Man: I need to talk to you, and only you. Clear?
Nicole: Uh, yeah, okay, fine. Hang on a second.
Nicole: Hey, sally, I got to take this-- some weirdo informant calling in. [Laughs] Yeah, of course I'll be good tonight. Okay, bye. Okay, hi. Can I get your name?
Man: This has to be anonymous.
Nicole: Anonymous, fine. Well, your number didn't come up on my phone, so can I at least get that, just in case we get disconnected?
Nicole: Okay. What information do you got for me?
Man: I'm really glad I got through to you. Sometimes it's hard to contact a--
Nicole: Sir, could you just get to the info?
Man: I've got a real scoop for you, miss walker. You're going to love it.
Theresa: Well... I am sure that your great pal Melanie will be much better for you than I was.
Brady: As a matter of fact, yeah... she will.
Theresa: Oh, wow. You know, that beanpole with the fake red hair was acting all weird about you earlier, so what's going on between you two, hmm? Are you an item now?
Adrienne: Is that the errand you had to run?
Sonny: Yeah. Paul wants me to keep it.
Adrienne: You saw him?
Sonny: Yep. Don't worry, Mom. Paul's definitely moved on.
Paul: How can I make a difference in people's lives?
Will: Easy. You're a hero to a lot of people.
Paul: Not once they find out my arm's shot.
Will: Don't be so sure. Try this-- where would your life be now if when you were growing up someone that you idolized came out as being gay?
Paul: I'm not-- look, being open, like...
Will: Coming out was not the easiest thing that I've ever done, but it's very important for people to realize that people that they know--people that they know, they respect, that they idolize-- some of them are also gay.
Will: Paul, you have a chance to make a huge impact on a lot of people's lives. Just think about it, okay? Thanks. [Breathing heavily] What have I done?
Brady: Melanie and I... we are friends. We're good friends...
Brady: Something you and I really never were. I mean, sure, we partied, and we boozed it up and had a great time, but it was never really out of friendship or caring about one another.
Theresa: Speak for yourself.
Brady: Actually, I should probably thank you. I mean, you've shown me how important the friendship thing actually really is.
Theresa: You know what? Go to hell, Brady.
Brady: And it's a good thing you weren't pregnant, because we would never have been able to handle that.
Theresa: Oh, no, no, you mean I wouldn't be able to handle it, because I'm trash, right? And, oh, yeah, I have no feelings, hmm?
Brady: Here's what I do know. And it's sad, and I'm sorry to tell you this, but I don't think that you know how to love.
Theresa: [Breathes deeply]
Melanie: You're kidding?
Daniel: Honey, honey, honey, I know what I'm doing. We know what we're doing. Can you just trust me for once?
Melanie: If I said "no," would that make a difference?
Melanie: Okay, fine. Then... everybody gets to make their own decision when it comes to relationships. You get to choose what makes you happy and what you think is right. Obviously, just remember that, you know, if--if it ever comes up with me.
Daniel: Okay, yeah, deal.
Melanie: Yeah, okay, cool. I'm serious, though.
Daniel: You're serious about what?
Melanie: No, listen... if you like Nicole, if she makes you happy, good. If she makes you happy, good. I hope she does, but from my experience, she's never been able to do that with any man.
Man: This isn't a pretty story, miss walker. But believe me, the kind of dirt I've got on this person... it's right up your alley.
Serena: Oh... mmm! I'm exhausted. Might just lie in bed all day.
Serena: Where are you going?
Eric: I have to go to the savanna, remember? I need to get my shots in the morning light.
Serena: Eric... please be careful.
Eric: Don't worry--I will be.
Serena: I always worry when you're out there. I can't help it. I love you.
Eric: I promise I'll be careful.
Serena: You better be.
Eric: I've changed so much since then... but Serena's still the same.
Serena: Cannot blow this.
Nicole: Sir, could you just get to it?
Man: It's about someone who just got into town-- a woman, beautiful. Everyone thinks she's amazing, absolutely wonderful.
Nicole: Wow. Scintillating.
Man: Here's the thing-- this woman is a total liar.
Nicole: Okay, well, I've never done a story on a liar before. My ratings should go through the roof.
Man: See, no one knows what this woman is all about. So what I'm going to tell you... make sure you're sitting down, okay?
Nicole: Okay, I'm sitting. So who is this wonderful, beautiful, amazing woman who's a total liar?
Man: Serena Mason.
