Brady: Melanie, Melanie, Melanie, Melanie, you don't get it. What I'm trying to say to you is that I think the way you feel, I think that I-I feel the same way too.
Melanie: Are you messing with me?
Melanie: I wasn't expecting that.
Brady: I wasn't either. It's... it's kind of weird.
Melanie: Yeah, really weird.
Serena: Hi. It's Theresa, isn't it?
Lucas: So, uh, the kids couldn't stop talking about you.
Rafe: [Chuckles] Yeah? They have a good Christmas?
Lucas: Yeah, they did. Sami and I did our best.
Rafe: Say what you will about EJ, but those kids... they loved him.
Lucas: I think the person most affected by all this is Johnny. Kind of acted guilty when he was opening his presents and stuff-- you know, with his dad gone.
Rafe: Poor little guy.
Lucas: Oh, which reminds me. He outgrew his FBI jacket. Sami was telling me, so maybe you could, I don't know, hook him up with some Salem P.D. Gear, something a little flashy, you know.
Rafe: I don't think so.
Rafe: Come on, man. He'd appreciate it. It would mean a lot to him.
Rafe: I'm off the force.
Adrienne: It looks like Janet took Ari to the park. You think Ari's gonna be warm enough. It's a little brisk outside.
Sonny: Janet's the best. Ari's gonna be fine.
Adrienne: Sorry for dragging you away from work.
Sonny: It's no problem.
Adrienne: Just--this scrapbook is a lot harder than I thought it would be, you know, tracking down all the pictures and thinking of cute little captions, and gluing and just--ugh. I don't know when I'm gonna be done.
Sonny: Well, it's not like you have a deadline.
Adrienne: "Deadline"? Speaking of deadlines, I thought will would be working from home.
Sonny: [Sighs] Not today.
Paul: Go ahead, will. What's the big question?
Will: I, uh...
Paul: Are you afraid to ask?
Will: No. No. Are you gay?
Paul: Do you think I'm gay, will?
Will: Yes. Yes, I do.
Paul: Are you gay, will?
Will: Yes, I am.
Paul: Then I'll answer your question.
Nicole: Thanks to me... we didn't have the wonderful new year's that you planned. So, uh, I was hoping we could do it now... because there's no place I'd rather be than right here... with you.
Melanie: So what do we do?
Brady: That's easy. We stammer, and we... don't say anything. We act awkwardly--
Melanie: Yeah, so you don't know.
Brady: No, I don't.
Melanie: Me either.
Brady: [Sighs] Um, this is complicated.
Brady: Not to mention, unexpected.
Brady: Disorienting. Aside from all this, this is not just gonna be about the two of us, you know.
Melanie: That's complicated enough.
Brady: There's gonna be steps. But I'm--I'm good at steps. I mean, I'm an expert at steps.
Melanie: Yeah, you are.
Brady: I know that step one is--is, uh--is Maggie.
Melanie: Maggie? Okay. Um... step two is... my dad?
Brady: Your dad, yeah. Yeah. They're all kind of interconnected.
Brady: But probably the biggest step, um, for me would be the most important thing to me, which is to make sure I don't do anything that's gonna hurt you. I tend to do that. When my intentions are golden, I tend to do that.
Melanie: I don't think you're gonna do that.
Brady: I better not, 'cause I'll tell you what, your da--your dad and Maggie, they would--they would kill me.
Melanie: [Chuckles] No, they won't. I will.
Melanie: [Laughs] I'm just kidding. Seriously, though, I will kill you. [Laughs]
Serena: You all right?
Theresa: I'm fine. What do you want?
Eric: She came here to meet me.
Bill: So... what do you think? You told me to keep my eye out. I think this place is perfect.
Sonny: I think will's finishing up the interview for his latest cover story for Sonix.
Adrienne: Oh. Who's it about?
Sonny: That's the big secret.
Will: This... shouldn't happen.
Paul: So you got your answer. Yes, I'm gay, just like you thought. And you pushed real hard to get that answer.
Will: No, I just...
Paul: You--you just what? Tell me you don't want this to happen.
Nicole: Are you gonna say anything?
Daniel: I just... I didn't expect... this.
Nicole: Well, after everything you did to make new year's so special, you didn't think I'd ruin everything, did you? Throw it all away? Okay. Maybe--maybe a surprise wasn't a great idea, but... but Parker's still away, and Melanie's at work. Daniel... please give me a chance... to make it special for both of us... right now.
Theresa: Oh. Yeah, I remember you. You two were together on Christmas eve, right? So the vows have gone by the wayside, huh?
Eric: Serena and I are good friends.
Eric: Would you mind giving us a minute before we go to lunch?
Serena: Sure. I'll meet you downstairs.
Theresa: Okay, look, let me get something straight. That whole mix-up with our office, it was all Anne's fault, okay?
Theresa: What, she--I mean, she told you about it, didn't she? And then now you're here, you're sir Galahad, ready to fight her battles for her?
Eric: Okay, no, no, no.
Theresa: Wait. Skip over the whole "we're just friends" speech, okay? Because I have intuition, and I know what's going on with you two.
Eric: Okay, Theresa--
Theresa: And you know what? I-I'm happy for you.
Eric: Listen--just listen to yourself.
Theresa: I think it's good.
Eric: I didn't mention or say anything about Serena's office. And I don't want to get into my personal life.
Theresa: So... then why--why do you want to talk to me alone?
Eric: Because it's obvious you're upset. And I don't think it has anything to do with Serena.
Brady: Well, I think one of us has to make a decision here, so I will. I think we should make a date...
Brady: To talk.
Melanie: Yeah. That's--I... about what?
Brady: I mean, do I have to come up with all the ideas?
Melanie: Yeah, I think so. Probably. No, I'll throw a few in.
Brady: All right. I know what we're gonna do. I got it. We are gonna... make a date to talk... about having a date.
Rafe: Roman's hands were tied.
Lucas: Come on, don't give me that, man. This doesn't make any sense at all. You're a great cop. You're a straight shooter. Unless, what--did you do something to protect Sami, is that it?
Lucas: I'm just asking.
Rafe: I told you, I can't talk about it.
Lucas: Fine, fine. All right, you can't talk about it.
Rafe: Thank you.
Lucas: But I think the whole thing just stinks.
Lucas: I mean, what are you gonna do? Are you gonna go back to being a P.I. Now?
Rafe: Not an option. Anyway, I'm ready for change.
Lucas: You're ready for change. What do you mean--you're gonna leave Salem?
Victor: You know, I wasn't expecting a place that was already done. What's the catch?
Bill: There's no catch. The guy who put this all together died in a car crash, like, the day after it was finished. It's just been sitting here for the past few months. The wife was too upset to even deal with it. Now she just wants it gone. It, uh... seems to fill the bill for everything you said you wanted.
Victor: Yeah, but... it's not for me.
Adrienne: Oh, my goodness, that '80s hair. Oh, no, no, no, no. I'm not sending that one to your father. I can hear him laughing from Dubai.
Sonny: What were you thinking? It certainly wasn't less is more.
Adrienne: Hey, watch it, or I'll show will the video of your middle-school variety show.
Sonny: You are a mean mother.
Adrienne: Oh, yes. I try. [Laughing]
Paul: Merry Christmas, Sonny.
Sonny: I love it. And I love you.
Adrienne: Sonny? What is it?
Paul: I mean it. If you don't want this to happen, tell me now.
Will: No, no, it's not that I don't want it to happen.
Paul: Okay, that's all I needed to hear.
Nicole: Daniel, I know we still have to talk. And I know you have issues with how I was with Eric. And you have every right to.
Nicole: But I don't want to talk about Eric.
Daniel: Oh, I bet you don't.
Nicole: Not for the reasons that you think. I'm not running away from my feelings for him, and I am not on the rebound. I saw him with Serena on new year's. And I more than got that it is over between us, and I am glad. And I know I made a horrible mistake when I first met her.
Daniel: A horrible mistake?
Nicole: Okay, a series of horrible mistakes. I don't know. Maybe I was obsessed. Everyone kept saying how wonderful and beautiful she was, and it just played into my insecurities. I wanted to find fault with her, not for Eric... but because I felt I didn't measure up... for you. I am not Serena. I am not Jennifer or any other woman that you admire, respect--
Daniel: I told you, let me worry about that. Let me make that call.
Nicole: Yeah. I want you to. Daniel, I... I'm trying to tell you... I've learned my lesson. And I know that I almost lost you. Please tell me I haven't. Please tell me we can start over again.
Eric: You know, I went through something that was... where I thought something was wrong, and I didn't know what. It was rough. So I think I might understand.
Eric: Listen, if you ever want to talk...
Theresa: No, I--
Eric: Just call, okay?
Theresa: God... you are such a good person. Good people confuse me.
Eric: Okay, well, I am also a good listener. Call me anytime.
Theresa: Okay. So where was I before I freaked out? Oh, right. I was getting my chain jerked by cherry Ames, student nurse. Melanie, sweetie, it's me. Look, I got that form that you asked for, and I'm here waiting for you where we said we would meet, and it's about 20 minutes past when you said you'd be here. Where are you? Bitch. [Sighs]
Melanie: So a definite plan to do nothing definite?
Brady: A clear plan for nothing clear.
Melanie: Fantastic. That sounds... okay. Well, as much as I'd like to continue this existential conversation, I have to go back to the hospital.
Brady: Yeah, abs--no, I have an appointment too...
Melanie: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Brady: I got to get to, but, you know, we'll--we'll see each other.
Melanie: Yeah. Yeah. Is this ever gonna not be weird?
Brady: Your guess is as good as mine.
Brady: Melanie, I-I don't...
Melanie: Well, I'm gonna go, then.
Brady: All right.
Melanie: Later, dude.
Brady: Later. Later.
Melanie: Just gonna grab my stuff, go to the hospital, so...
Brady: All right.
Brady: I'll see you.
Melanie: Yeah, mm-hmm.
Brady: [Mouths words]
Bill: I have to say... if you want it, you should move quickly.
Victor: Well, I've never had a real-estate agent say that to me before.
Bill: [Chuckles] Look, so far, you're the only person who knows about it. If you don't want this place, I know a lot of people who do.
Victor: No, I want it. Make the deal.
Sonny: It's nothing.
Adrienne: Don't lie to your mother. It's got a sticker on it.
Sonny: It means it's certified.
Adrienne: Paul gave that to you, didn't he?
Sonny: Yeah, he did.
Adrienne: Okay, I have one question. What would you have said to will if he had found that?
Sonny: One, will won't find it, and two, if he did, I would tell him the truth-- that I had forgotten about it and put it in a box with old stuff.
Adrienne: A box of old stuff that really means something to you.
Sonny: Okay, yeah... Paul gave it to me when we were together. It's pretty special.
Adrienne: A baseball player who had a baseball?
Sonny: Paul is a pitcher. They're notoriously bad hitters. When they're at the plate, no one expects them to do anything. But this one time, just once... [Clicks tongue] Knocked it out of the park. And the security guard went and grabbed it from the fan who caught it. They brought it to the dugout... and certified it.
Adrienne: And he gave it to you. That was sweet of him. But all things considered, shouldn't you send it back to him? I mean, don't you think he'd want it back? It would mean so much more to him than it does to you, yes?
Sonny: I hate it when you're right.
Paul: [Sighs] You okay?
Will: Yeah. I'm sorry. It's--it's just, um--
Paul: You feel guilty? Right? I know why.
Theresa: Oh, well, I guess you didn't get my message, not that I should have had to leave one, but we did agree to meet in the waiting area so I could give you your stupid forms so you could get paid for your stupid job.
Melanie: Right, I know. I'm sorry. I forgot to check my messages, and I'M... I don't have an excuse. I'm sorry. Just something came up.
Theresa: Something with Brady?
Eric: Yeah, well, this is Brady.
Serena: Nice to finally meet you.
Brady: Nice to meet you too. I've been looking forward to it. I'm on the hospital board. I've actually seen your research, and I'm quite impressed.
Serena: Why do men's eyes go right to your research?
Eric: I'm a development man myself.
Brady: See? You're having a very positive impact on this town, because that--you just made a joke. That's a good thing.
Eric: I did, thank you.
Brady: It wasn't a great joke, but, you know, baby steps. Baby steps.
Eric: Uh-huh. I forgot to tell you-- he's a jerk.
Brady: Actually, I am. I am.
Serena: That's not what I heard.
Brady: Well, don't believe everything he tells you, because he always sees the best in everybody.
Serena: Not just Eric. We have a mutual friend who thinks you hung the moon-- Melanie Jonas.
Rafe: Yeah, I am thinking about leaving... maybe Chicago. Just have to be close enough that I can visit Gabi.
Lucas: Chicago's in the opposite direction. Don't you think that'd be a trek?
Rafe: Yeah, well... obviously, I would see her less than I do now.
Lucas: How's she doing?
Rafe: Well, better now that will's back in town with the baby.
Lucas: Yeah. Look, I know that baby is the center of Gabi's world, but you're also pretty important to her too.
Rafe: No, I know. I know. It's just, uh... Salem... not much here for me anymore.
Lucas: Yeah? Look, man, I'm really sorry to hear that, but, um--but, uh, I got some things I got to do.
Rafe: Okay. Thanks for the coffee.
Lucas: Yeah, no problem. Good luck in whatever you decide, okay?
Rafe: Okay. Thanks.
Lucas: You ask me, I think you're one of the good guys.
Rafe: Well, you've misjudged me.
Lucas: Nah, I didn't misjudge you. Come on, give yourself a break.
Victor: So who the hell sent the anonymous letter that cost you your job?
Daniel: Okay, look... the attraction is mutual. I'm not gonna say that it isn't. But I think we--we need to take things slow.
Nicole: Daniel, that's why I'm telling you all of this. I don't want to take it slow.
Daniel: Yeah, I kind of got that when I saw you in that dress.
Nicole: Okay. When you're cautious about everything, it makes me insecure. And when I'm insecure, I start to obsess on my stupidity, which leads to more stupidity when all I really want to do is... reconnect with you... in every way... in every way. Living with chronic migraine
Lucas: Hey, how you doing?
Lucas: Oh, hi, Adrienne.
Lucas: Uh, I just wanted to spend a little time with Ari, if that's okay.
Sonny: Well, she's at the park with the sitter, but they should be home soon for lunch.
Lucas: Ah. Can I wait?
Sonny: Sure. I have to run an errand. Would you mind waiting around for the sitter to get back?
Lucas: Yeah, I guess we could do that. No problem.
Sonny: Okay. There's no time like the present.
Will: You know?
Paul: You're an amazing writer, will. I mean, after I read that article about Chad DiMera, I read that article you wrote about your mother and her husband... [Sighs] Which must have been really tough on you-- to be so objective about the people that you love.
Will: That's the job.
Paul: And--and that's really important to you. [Chuckles] I mean, I understand-- being so passionate about what you do. I had to give up so much for baseball. I mean, I gave up this. You feel guilty, don't you? Because what you feel like... you just did makes you less professional.
Will: You're right. What we just did is not objective.
Paul: But don't worry about it... because you're gonna write a great article.
Will: Without writing everything I know about you?
Rafe: How do you know about that letter? Really? You still need moles in the Salem P.D.?
Victor: I like to keep my ear to the ground when I need to protect my family and my friends. So who sent the damn letter?
Rafe: I don't know.
Victor: You got an idea, though, don't you?
Victor: Wild guess-- it was a DiMera.
Rafe: I'm not gonna get involved.
Victor: All right, new subject. You're out of work. Come work for me.
Melanie: Theresa, I'm sorry I'm late, but that's none of your business.
Theresa: Hmm. So... first you're mad at Brady, and then you're mad at me for also being mad at Brady and then you make an appointment with me, and you blow me off because let me guess--Brady?
Melanie: I don't really know what part of "none of your business" didn't sink in.
Theresa: Oh, my god. I knew it. The fact that you won't answer my question means that I'm right.
Melanie: And I'm not gonna answer your question. Can you just give me my form?
Theresa: Fine. I-I left it in the waiting area.
Melanie: This job is a challenge for you, isn't it? I understand it's--it's very hard to--to get a form from the corridor and bring it all the way back here to me. It's--it's very taxing.
Theresa: I'm gonna go get it. But this time you're gonna find me, because I am done waiting on your sorry ass.
Brady: You know Melanie?
Serena: We met in Europe. And we really hit it off, started talking, and realized that she knew one brother, I knew the other.
Brady: What a coincidence.
Serena: Yeah. It was. [Laughs] Anyway, I didn't know her all that well, so I didn't tell her just how well I knew Eric. Made it seem like we had just been friends. You know... kind of like you and Melanie are.
Eric: Brady, what's going on?
Daniel: Look, I hope you know that I care about you... a lot. And I believe what you're saying. But just because we moved on, there are no guarantees.
Nicole: I know. And I'm willing to take that risk.
Daniel: Are you? Are you really?
Adrienne: So, when Justin couldn't make it back home for Christmas, I decided to put together a family scrapbook.
Lucas: When's he getting back?
Adrienne: Well, we're not entirely sure.
Lucas: Well, uh, was Christmas rough?
Adrienne: Well, Dubai isn't exactly a winter wonderland.
Lucas: No, I meant for you, Adrienne.
Adrienne: I think it was a lot harder for Justin, you know. I have family and friends, and... well, like, up to a couple years ago, you were in Hong Kong for a long time. I mean, you must have gotten lonely, right?
Lucas: No, actually, um, I met somebody. So it was kind of nice. It was pretty serious, but... of course, it ended, obviously.
Adrienne: Well, that's too bad.
Lucas: I did like it, though. I liked being there. It was fun. You know, I missed the kids a lot, but I don't know--there's just something about being in a hotel, you know, and everybody else is away from home too, and you just kind of make connections with people. It's nice. But Justin isn't doing that probably. I'm sure. He's just, you know... [Sighs] Adrienne, look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean that.
Sonny: May as well give it to him in person.
Paul: I know I can trust you.
Will: Yes. You can. I won't out you. I wouldn't out anybody, ever.
Paul: [Chuckles] [Sighs]
Paul: It's kind of crazy. I mean, all these years, I've been telling myself I couldn't let anyone know that I'm gay because of my career. And now I have no career, and I'm still thinking no one can know.
Will: Maybe... maybe it's time.
Rafe: [Chuckles] Work for you?
Victor: I need somebody to coordinate security on my holdings.
Rafe: You already have heads of security for every company.
Victor: I need somebody to watch them. I don't trust a lot of people. I trust you.
Rafe: Oh. Well, thanks. But, uh, I'm not sure I want to get into that kind of work... even if I didn't think you were just making up a job for me.
Victor: What the hell are you gonna do? You can't go back to being a P.I.
Rafe: God, you do have good sources, don't you?
Victor: And I have good people working for me. I want you to be one of them. Think about it.
Nicole: I admit this is scary. But I just--I want to be with you... because I believe that it would be wonderful and exciting and fun, and that is exactly what we both need right now.
Daniel: No, but I just don't want you--us... to make another mistake. It's--
Nicole: Daniel, Daniel... this is the most right thing that I have done in a long, long time. And I want to move on. I am... moving on.
Brady: Well, I, um--I have lost track of time. I got to run, actually.
Serena: Well, it was nice meeting you. We should all get together sometime, the four of us. Ask Melanie about it.
Brady: Great idea. No, I'll look forward-- I'll see ya.
[Door opens, closes]
Eric: Do you think he was a little off... like, acting weird?
Serena: Well, I just met him, of course, and I liked him. But I thought so too. That makes two of them.
Serena: Your cousin Theresa.
Theresa: [Sighs] Why does this make me so sad? No, you know what? I dodged a bullet with Brady. And I am so grateful for that, so... but still... it doesn't make any sense. The taste of light and fit Greek non fat yogurt
Eric: So what about Theresa?
Serena: Well, before you got there, she was staring at something she was holding. She seemed transfixed.
Eric: What was it?
Serena: I couldn't see for sure. It kind of looked like... it doesn't make sense.
Serena: It looked like a baby rattle.
Theresa: [Sniffling] [Crying]
Lucas: Adrienne, come on, don't listen to me. I was just, you know, thinking out loud and stuff. Don't--don't let that scare you.
Adrienne: Lucas, Lucas, Lucas, it's not just what you said. It's... [Sighs] The past few times I've spoken to Justin over the past few months, something is definitely different. He has been gone so long, it just feels like we're drifting apart again.
Lucas: Well, maybe he's just working hard, you know. He's working hard, and he wants to cover how much he--he wants to come home.
Adrienne: I don't think so. When you're married to someone, you know... you just know.
Paul: I don't know. That is what you want to write about, isn't it?
Will: Not if you don't want me to.
Paul: Is that why this happened?
Will: No. No, I swear.
Paul: Then prove it.
