Abigail: Ben? Ben, it's me.
Ben: Oh, I'm so late. I'm sorry, I tried to get out of work by midnight so we could be together. I tried to call my replacement 'cause he didn't show up--
Abigail: No Ben, Ben, it's okay, it's okay. It's fine. Fine, we're here.
Ben: Yeah, you're right. These are for you.
Abigail: Thank you, they are beautiful, I love them.
Ben: Just like you.
Maxine: Mm! Excellent cider. Thank you.
Daniel: You're welcome. I guess we better get back to it.
Daniel: All right, Happy New Year.
Maxine: Take care. Oh, wait, Dr. Dan. You know I have nothing but good thoughts about you. Can I ask you something?
Daniel: Yeah, sure.
Maxine: You know how I've always stood by you and Jennifer, hoping that things would work out.
Maxine: I know they didn't and it's over, but you got pretty upset tonight when I asked you about your plans and why they got cancelled. So, friend to friend, you wanna tell me what happened?
Eric: Happy New Year.
Kayla: Hey, thank you. You too.
Eric: Hey, um, have you seen Serena?
Nicole: Oh, I'm sorry.
Serena: Happy New Year, Nicole.
Nicole: Serena. Um, Happy New Year. Well, I have somewhere where I have to be, so--
Serena: No, Nicole. You're not going anywhere.
Nicole: Seriously, I have somewhere to be, so--
Serena: Off to search my hotel room again?
Nicole: Okay, whatever you think you know, you don't know. Because really, all I was trying to do--
Serena: Here's what I do know. You haven't given up on Eric, which is kind of pathetic, cause he's definitely given up on you. You lost him, Nicole. Why not just face facts?
Paul: I still love you. I mean, that's never been the problem, I know. But now I think we can finally, truly, be together. The way you always wanted, no secrets, no hiding. It can happen now. We can have it all. To 2015.
Paul: Thank you for helping me see...it's gonna be a whole new beginning for me. Maybe for both of us.
[Cell phone ringing]
Brady: I'm really glad you came back, Mel. Happy New Year.
Maggie: Happy New Year!
Victor: Hey! All: [Laughing]
Brady: Happy New Year.
[Cell phone ringing]
Will: Aren't you going to get that? Could be important.
Paul: If you need some money to keep that coffee house of yours, don't rule me out. Just down the street, the Salem Inn.
Sonny: Might as well do it in person. Look at 'em!
Ben: I was thinking about you all day today.
Ben: No, I'm serious. It just--it really hit me, you know? This is going to be my best New Year, ever. It's because of you.
Melanie: [Laughs] Grandma, Victor, um, what's up?
Victor: We went to a party at the Juergens'. I swear to God, I felt like Seabiscuit, I was falling asleep standing up.
Melanie: Oh, no.
Maggie: You know, it was pretty dull. Then we came through the garage and we heard someone out here, you know, enjoying the fireworks, and we were right.
Brady: You were right, yeah, we were--it was--we were looking at the...
Melanie: Yeah, the fireworks.
Victor: Well, let go inside, it's too cold for me out here.
Maggie: Absolutely, we can have a nice cozy party of our own.
Both: No, no, no. No.
Melanie: Um, no--I have to get up early for work.
Brady: Yeah, she does. I--I--I have--I have so much work--
Victor: Why is it every time I come up with a good idea, you oppose me?
Brady: I don't--no, I'm not opposing, I just--
Victor: It's New Year's Eve, damn it!
Maggie: I--I think what Victor's saying is "no" isn't an option. Come on.
Daniel: Let me just put it this way, I decided I was ready, I was ready to start dating again, but then I discovered that the woman I'd asked out, she, uh, she definitely wasn't ready. And matter of fact, I don't know, maybe... maybe I'm not, either. End of story.
Kayla: You know, sorry, I haven't seen Serena. Um, Bob and I just came in through the back door a few minutes ago. Um, that's--that's Bob over there. Uh, maybe she's in the ladies' room.
Eric: Uh, yeah, maybe. So, Bob, huh? How long have you two been an item?
Kayla: Oh, we're not--we're not. Actually it's our first date. Maybe our last. We met on an online dating service. And, well, you know, I'm having a little trouble getting him to open up. He's not really a talker. That's why I brought him here, 'cause I thought maybe I would run into somebody who could help me, you know, break the ice with him a little bit. Someone like you.
Eric: Okay, Kayla, I really--
Kayla: No, no, no, no, that would be perfect, you could do it, come on. He's a nice guy. Come on.
Eric: Okay, only until Serena gets back. Hi, Bob.
Kayla: Thank you.
Nicole: Can you not sling accusations, okay, come on? It--it's a new year, let's just start off on the right foot.
Serena: I'm sorry, was I being impolite to the person who broke into my hotel room and searched through my things? How 'bout this, I'm not going to put up with any more of your stunts, Nicole. So let's just agree that we stay the hell away from each other.
Nicole: Great, nothing would make me happier.
Serena: Yeah, right.
Nicole: What? You don't believe me?
Serena: It'd be nice if I could. You--
Nicole: No, no, no, no, ah, ah, ah, ah! You don't get to walk away. What? Huh? What were you going to say? Say it.
Serena: Oh, to put it somewhat euphemistically, what I was going to say is, you got some real serious issues, don't you.
Paul: I love you too, Mom. Okay, Happy New Year. So, where were we?
Will: I'm curious, have you told your mom about your arm yet?
Paul: Oh, no, it's a night to celebrate. I don't wanna disappoint her with news like that.
Will: So, you think she'd be disappointed?
Paul: More like sad and disappointed. I mean, she knows me, she knows that baseball is all I've ever lived for.
Will: Since you were how old?
Paul: Just a kid. I mean, I--I got to play little league when I was six years old, and I was hooked. It's all I ever wanted to do--right through high school.
Will: And then you went into the minors.
Paul: Yeah, for a season, almost, and in September I was called up for the majors. Never looked back. A lot of years, a lot of games.
Will: Maybe it's time to try something new.
Paul: It is. It is time to try something new.
Derrick: Excuse me, sir. I wouldn't do that.
Sonny: I'm sorry?
Derrick: I don't think he wants to be disturbed. He's with someone.
Sonny: Oh, I didn't realize.
Derrick: Are you a friend of his?
Sonny: Used to be, yeah. Are you a friend of his?
Will: In order to succeed, like you have, you--you have to have discipline.
Paul: Came easy, I loved it.
Will: But surely, at some point, some quiet moment away from the game, you know, you thought about something that--something else you could do.
Paul: What about you? You ever think about doing something besides writing magazine articles?
Will: I guess I could write a book, if I ever think of something to say.
Paul: Yeah, but that's still writing.
Will: True. Let's stick with you. There is a bright side to making a change.
Will: Well, you had said that you were having a hard time having personal relationships, because of the travel, not to mention, the stress. So maybe, you know, once you decide what's next, settle down, maybe have a family.
Paul: Is that what you think I want, Will?
Victor: So, here's to 2015. May the New Year bring us all the happiness we can get our hands on.
Maggie: Hear, hear!
Melanie: Yes, Happy New Year.
Maggie: So, what did you two do tonight?
Melanie: We, um...
Brady: We--we were watching the fireworks.
Victor: Well, we know that. We saw that when we came in, I mean what'd you do before that?
[Cell phone ringing]
Melanie: Sorry, um, it's my dad. I have to take this.
Maggie: Okay. Brady, have you noticed Melanie seems a little jumpy?
Victor: A little? You're both acting like two squirrels in a bag, what the hell's going on with you two?
Melanie: No, you're not interrupting anything, I'm just, um, with Maggie and Victor, and Brady, there's a little party over here.
Daniel: That's good, that's good, honey, listen, um, I'm really sorry I got so upset, I shouldn't have. I know what happened wasn't--wasn't your fault, it was--it was Nicole. Every damn bit of it.
Melanie: Dad, are you okay?
Nicole: Serena, don't start with your half-baked psychobabble. You don't know a thing about me.
Serena: Oh, actually I know more than I want to.
Serena: When we bumped into each other at the hospital--
Nicole: You bumped into me--
Serena: I introduced myself, you deliberately didn't tell me who you were.
Nicole: Oh, please, so what?
Serena: Because, right then and there, you were threatened. 'Cause you knew how much Eric felt for me, that's why you looked me up. That's why you searched through my hotel room, searched through my emails--
Nicole: Which were boring, by the way.
Serena: But it told you exactly how I felt about you. I may not have known your face or known your name, but I've known for a long time that you're some piece of work.
Serena: Eric loved you all those years ago, and you came back into his life when he was a priest, and then he was disgraced, and you could have cleared his name, but what did you do? You lied, you withheld evidence that he needed, because you wanted him all to yourself because you loved him, oh, so much. Well I got news for ya, Nicole, that--that is not love, that is just you being... I guess, you...selfish to the core.
Ben: Ah, I should've grabbed a bottle of champagne from the club, the store was sold out.
Abigail: No, champagne is overrated. And besides, it's not the wine that counts, it's the thought.
Ben: Yeah? Hmm. So, what are you thinking?
Sonny: You haven't said. Are you a friend?
Derrick: I wanna be, but it looks like somebody beat me to it. Guess that means you and I are friendless tonight. Finish up here in about an hour, maybe we could have a drink.
Sonny: No, no, I gotta get going.
Derrick: Too bad. You want to leave a message, I could see that he gets it.
Sonny: No, thank you.
Will: Paul, I have no idea what you want.
Paul: Too bad. Thought that you might be able to help me out. Relax, I was just kidding. I'm getting sick and tired of being down all the time.
Will: Humor's a good thing.
Paul: Yeah, maybe I have a future in standup. You have some place to be?
Will: No, um... no.
Paul: It's okay, we could finish up tomorrow.
Will: You know what, I'm... I'm good. I have all the material that I need.
Paul: Whatever--I mean, if you don't want to talk to me anymore, it's...
Will: That's not what I meant, that's not what I meant.
Melanie: I don't know, you sound...down.
Daniel: No, no, no, I'm fine, I'm fine, just learned a valuable lesson tonight, that's all.
Melanie: About Nicole?
Daniel: Yep, yep, and I feel really bad I took some of that out on you. Maybe even ruined your New Year's Eve. You know, you don't deserve that.
Melanie: Didn't ruin anything. If something bad happens, I usually do it to myself.
Daniel: Why, did something happen?
Melanie: No, no, no, no, everything's fine.
Daniel: Honey, if something's wrong, you know you can talk to me, you know that, right?
[Cell phone beeps]
Daniel: Damn, um, I gotta go.
Melanie: That's okay.
Daniel: Okay, but we'll talk, though, I promise you. Right?
Brady: Something happened tonight that took us both by surprise. Okay?
Maggie: But you were there for her, right?
Brady: Yeah, you could say that, that I was there for her.
Maggie: Well, good, 'cause I'm glad she's not acting strange because she's mad at you. I mean you were worried about that earlier, remember?
Victor: Why would Melanie be mad at Brady? Melanie, help me out here, what the hell's going on between you and Brady?
Melanie: Uh... I feel like maybe we should just tell 'em.
Eric: You a Packerís fan?
Eric: Mm, Bearís.
Kayla: Sorry, she wasn't in the restroom.
Eric: Oh, um, where'd she go?
Nicole: How dare you judge me.
Serena: Oh, well, someone needs to. 'Cause you don't care who gets hurt as long as you get what you want.
Serena: And maybe it's exactly like you said, I just don't know you and I don't get you. But here's the thing, I don't want to get you. So get this, stay away from me. Stay away from my things, my work, my life. And for your own good, stay the hell away from Eric.
Nicole: Do you ever shut the hell up? What do you think, you're so perfect--
Eric: Nicole! Stop it.
Sonny: Here's to losing everything. Great job, Kiriakis.
Paul: Well, I'm glad this won't be the last I'll be seeing of you. I mean, we spent all this time together.
Will: Relax, I'm not gonna disappear. For one thing, I still need you to read the piece once I'm done with it. I don't want anything in there that you don't want out there.
Paul: Right. Well... like I said, it's good to know that you'll still be around. Uh, Will... thanks for coming. Especially tonight. I didn't want to have to spend New Year's alone.
Will: Company's always a good thing. Happy New Year, Paul.
Melanie: The thing is... everything's fine, but--but something did happen. I got in a fight with my dad, earlier.
Maggie: About what, sweetheart?
Melanie: Um, it's not--it's not--it's not a big deal, but I was--I was hurting about it and I ran into Brady and--and he got me a hot chocolate and talked me through it, um, and everything's good.
Melanie: I--you know what, guys, I hate to be a party pooper, but I have to be up early for work, so I have to go. But, I love you.
Maggie: Oh, take care, sweetheart.
Melanie: Thank you so much and Happy New Year and I am going to call a cab.
Brady: No, you're not.
Melanie: Yes, it's not a big deal.
Brady: I'm--I'm--I'm gonna take you. I insist.
Melanie: Okay. Okay, so long, then.
Victor: Happy New Year.
Maggie: Happy New Year.
Nicole: Oh, great timing, Eric. Now I assume you think everything is my fault.
Eric: Serena, why don't you go inside and wait for me. I won't be long.
Nicole [Mocking]: Sure. Hm.
Kayla: Serena, is everything all right? Eric got worried when he heard you and Nicole going at it out there.
Serena: It's all good. Or at least it will be soon.
Nicole: Talk about feeling like I was just set up. I was on my way to the square to watch the fireworks and I bumped into Serena and she started to bang my cage, and she just kept going on and on and one thing led to another. I am not lying, I am telling you the truth, Eric.
Eric: You did internet research on her, you also broke into her hotel room. That is the truth.
Nicole: I have my reasons why I felt I needed to check her out, okay? And they don't have anything to do with you.
Eric: Really? Name one.
Nicole: Okay, I was... mostly concerned about you. But think about this, what, this woman just comes to Salem out of the blue, why? Why? What is her agenda?
Eric: Nicole, I know you can't help yourself. And when you have a thought, you think, since it's yours, it must be good. But I don't want you concerned with me. You're out of my life, permanently, are we clear?
Nicole: Yeah. I will never make that mistake again.
Abigail: So, uh, did you make any New Year's resolutions?
Ben: Did you?
Abigail: Uh, I don't know, like the normal ones. Lose weight, and eat better, and stop fighting with my brother.
Ben: Oh, that's a tough one--very tough. Just ask Jordan.
Abigail: So, did you make one?
Ben: Just one.
Abigail: Okay, what is it?
Ben: To tell you I love you. To tell you I plan on spending every minute I possibly can with you. All year long. Abigail, you okay?
Melanie: Brady, walking me all the way to the front door, it's a little--
Brady: It's a little old fashioned.
Melanie: Yeah. Sweet, though. Thank you for tonight.
Brady: Mel... Mel, um... we should-- we should talk about that kiss.
Melanie: Right. That.
Brady: Yeah, um... I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I didn't get a chance to say that to you because Victor and Maggie came out too soon and you were pretty quiet on the ride home, so... it wasn't--it wasn't cool. You don't do that. A guy doesn't treat his friends that way, and you know, that's what we are, we're really good friends, and so I'm--I just wanted to say--
Melanie: Yeah, I know--we're friends, I know, you don't have to beat yourself up over it. Took me by surprise a little bit, so, but, um, I kissed you back.
Serena: Eric, I'd--I'd invite you in, but...
Eric: Tonight's not a good night.
Serena: Let's face it... there'd be three of us in this room.
Eric: Right. We both need time to get past what she's done. I hope you know that I don't want Nicole to be any part of us.
Daniel: Nicole, why in the hell are you--
Nicole: Five minutes. Please, just five minutes.
Nicole: Daniel, I--I wanna make things right with you. As right as I possibly can. I was wrong about Eric being out of my life. I still get this knee-jerk reaction whenever his name comes up.
Daniel: Or when you see him.
Nicole: Pretty much.
Nicole: Up until tonight, and after you tore into me about lying to myself, Eric and Serena stepped up and did a tag team number on me, and I'll tell ya, I think I'm pretty much cured.
Daniel: Nicole, it doesn't really--
Nicole: No, please, let me--let me finish. Please? I'm not here to convince you that this is the truth, I'm not, because you're gonna believe whatever you want to believe. But there is something else. Something that nobody gets. You know, everyone--everyone thinks that--that I got into Serena's life because of Eric. Okay, that is true, partly, but what I-- what I realized is... it's also how I feel about me.
Daniel: Meaning what?
Nicole: I mean this-- this woman rolls in out of Eric's past... you know, someone he was crazy about, gorgeous, I mean, she's even a real journalist, not some cheap shot artist that's living on the edge, like me. And you know you can tell-- you can tell that she always does the right thing. So, basically, Serena is this-- this good person, and I'm not. You know, and who am I kidding, because I'm never gonna be, and even when I try to be I seem to screw every-- never mind, I just... I think I'm just--I'm starting to think that maybe that's the kind of woman that you would be happy with, you know, like you were with Jennifer. So all this--this acting out and this obsession is not just about Eric, or Serena, or Serena and Eric, it's about you too.
Nicole: Yes. Because I think I'll just always have, in the back of my mind, "when," not "if," "when" will you meet a woman like her. Someone that's better than I am. I love the holidays!
Abigail: You know, I'm a really big fan of your resolution. It's way better than mine.
Ben: Yeah, and I already did it.
Abigail: That's right, you're done. Um, but... just so you know, Ben... I love you too.
Ben: You know, you don't have to say it if you don't feel comfortable--
Abigail: No, wait, stop, are you--are you kidding me? I've--I've been wanting to say this for, like, I mean, weeks. Longer, maybe. I just--I didn't wanna, I don't know, jinx it or whatever, I just wanted to wait until I knew that you--
Ben: Loved you too? Well, I do. So you better get used to it.
Abigail: Yeah, I think I can do that.
Derrick: Oh here, I can take that.
Paul: Oh, thanks.
Derrick: Uh, someone came by to see you earlier.
Paul: Uh, and now he's gone.
Derrick: No, I mean a guy came up to see you when you were busy, but he didn't knock, you had the do not disturb sign out, so...
Paul: Did you get a name?
Derrick: No, he didn't say. He was about your height, dark hair, decent looking-- though I've seen better. Uh, said you guys used to be friends.
Paul: Okay. Thanks.
Derrick: Happy New Year.
Paul: You too. So Sonny came to see me.
Will: Sonny? Happy New Year.
Eric: My hope is, this is the last time in 2015 we will ever need to talk about Nicole.
Serena: Ditto, on my side. Seriously, we'll be fine.
Eric: So... you're still okay with us moving forward?
Serena: For you, guess I can make the sacrifice.
Eric: Good night.
Daniel: That's, uh... that's a lot to take in. I'm glad you were honest about things. But for the record, it was never about you not being good enough. And assuming that were even-- even true, I still decide who I care about. And it is not based on what other people think.
Maxine: Doctor, they need you in the ER Stat.
Daniel: Thank you. Happy New Year.
Nicole: Happy New Year.
Brady: I mean that--that kiss was... it was an in-the-moment kind of thing, right?
Melanie: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Brady: I mean, it was New Year's.
Brady: Fireworks were going on, you were very pretty.
Melanie: Oh, thank you--yeah, no, it just was--happened. Um, I... I was there.
Brady: You were, you were definitely there.
Melanie: Yeah, um... it's just one of those things, we'll just forget all about it.
Brady: We are gonna forget all about it. That's right.
Melanie: Yeah, absolutely. So...okay, um...
Melanie: I'm gonna go to bed.
Brady: You're gonna--I'm gonna go to bed. Okay, Happy New Year.
