EJ: I feel the same way. You know, I-I really--I don't think I would be able to recover if I lost you again.
Sami: Why would you lose me?
EJ: There's something I need to tell you... something I thought wouldn't come out, and it--and it may not. You know us DiMeras. I mean, we-- we don't spill unless our backs are really up against a wall.
Sami: So now...
EJ: I just--I don't want us to have any secrets anymore. That means I have to share everything with you, which means I have to tell you everything.
Chad: So... you said you wanted to talk about something.
Will: I do. Come in. Have a seat.
Chad: [Clears throat] It looks like you and I have some catching up to do.
Hope: Hey, Marlena. You okay?
Marlena: Oh, a sprain.
Hope: Oh, I just heard the news about John. He's waking up? My God, that's wonderful.
Marlena: Well, I'm--I'm trying to steel myself, you know, just sort of stay objective.
Hope: Yeah, okay.
Marlena: Because there's no guarantee of--of what he's going to remember or who he might remember. I mean, he could see somebody that he loves and not even realize who they are.
John: [Weakly] Son?
Brady: Dad? You're here. You know--you know me?
John: Of course I do, son.
Daniel: Only time will tell how much the patient will remember what happened to him the night of the trauma.
Kristen: Brady didn't do it!
Daniel: Do what?
Kristen: Hit his father over the head. It was Theresa. Theresa's the one that put John in a coma! Oh, I can see it in your eyes. You heard the great news, right? John is waking up. Glory be, glory be. I know that you are just as thrilled as I am, aren't you?
Hope: Marlena... it may take some time, but I really believe that John's coming back to you. You're going to make sure he does.
Marlena: It's a little overwhelming, you know? I mean, I wish I could turn off the doctor part of my brain that knows all the dangers and just... and just live in the faith.
Hope: Well, your faith has been sorely tested, but I think it's still hanging in there. Oh, gosh, I better get going. I'll check back later, okay?
Hope: Take care of that arm.
Hope: Oh, uh... how's Brady?
Marlena: He's in with John.
Hope: I know he's been hard on himself over the fight with his dad.
Marlena: Well, if John survives, they'll have to deal with that. Right now we just want to make sure that he wakes up.
Kristen: I don't know. I just--I can't stop wondering what John's very first words are going to be.
Theresa: Oh... well, I think this is great news for Brady. I'm thrilled for him...
Theresa: Since I've been there for him through all of this.
Kristen: That's so sweet. But if you're so team Brady, then why are you at the mall? Why aren't you at the hospital with him right now?
Brady: You have no idea what it means to hear your voice.
Brady: Dad, you-- do you--do you know where you are? Do you know what happened to you? My budget used to be a real downer,
Chad: You must be really proud of your writing.
Will: My editor gave me this. I'm going to hang it up right there. It'll be great when my mom comes over... EJ... Abigail. No one wants to forget about this little piece of journalism.
Chad: [Chuckles] And so what do they have you working on now?
Will: Well, first of all, I'm not with TruVista anymore. I've moved on to Sonix.
Chad: Yeah? That's a big step up.
Will: Well, that's actually what I want to talk to you about. They want me to do a cover article for my first assignment.
Chad: Yeah? What's the subject?
Sami: Well, you can't just drop a bomb like that and then not tell me what it is. Come on, EJ.
EJ: I knew about what Kristen did to Eric and why.
EJ: She told me just before the wedding, and I... I ke--you know, I-I kept it from you, and then I lied to keep you from knowing.
Sami: I see.
EJ: Look, she told me, she swore to me that she really loved Brady... and that what happened with Eric was something that she deeply regretted. And she knew that if it came out, she was going to lose Brady. She--look, she chose him over revenge on your mother.
Sami: Bully for her.
EJ: Look, Samantha, please, what I want you to know is that I'm not, and wasn't, covering for her. I was trying to hold on to you. I couldn't undo what Kristen had done... but I knew that if the truth came out, it was going to get between us. And you might recall, things were not going well between us at the time.
Sami: I recall. You didn't have to tell me this.
EJ: I know. It's a calculated risk. I need to you see that I can be honest with you, but... I also know this may be too much for you to bear.
Sami: You didn't have to tell me, because I've known... for a while.
Brady: Dad, do you-- do you know where you are?
John: [Breathes deeply]
John: Hey, doc.
Theresa: You know, you keep bothering me like this, and I might have to go get a court order of my very own.
Kristen: Oh, you're such a tattletale. You told Brady about our conversation, didn't you?
Theresa: Yes. I did, and he was very protective.
Kristen: Of you?
Kristen: You honestly think he cares about you? By all means, go find him. You know where he is-- right by his father's bedside. I bet he can't wait to talk to his dad, take a little walk down memory lane.
Theresa: I have to go.
Kristen: Say hi to John for me. Give Brady a great big hug. Bitch.
Brady: Hey, hey.
Marlena: Oh, Daniel.
Brady: He said he knew me. He called her "doc."
Daniel: Well, that-- that is great. All right, let's--let's not exhaust him. Why don't you wait outside? And I'll, uh--I'll take a look.
Brady: Okay, all right.
Marlena: Honey, we'll be right outside. You're going to be fine.
Daniel: John? Can you open your eyes?
Daniel: Do you know who I am?
John: [Breathes deeply] Hey, Daniel.
Daniel: That's right. John... do you remember what happened to you?
Chad: So my guess is, writing that article about EJ and your mom made you a hot property as a writer and the DiMera family a hot property as a subject.
Will: People are always interested in powerful families. But up until now, all of the articles have come from the outside. You're a member of the family.
Chad: All right, so what-- it would just be about... where have I been? What have I been up to? How I feel about coming back?
Will: Something like that.
Chad: And how I feel about my brother sleeping with the woman I was in love with.
EJ: So wait a second. You knew about Kristen, and you still came back to me.
Sami: Because I realize that you are the kind of guy who would have done something about it if you could have... and that sometimes, Mr. DiMera, lying is just a reflex.
EJ: It was that lie that started everything. I mean, I lost--I lost my mind.
EJ: Hey. I-I know you love me. [Irish accent] But I'd like a little bit of reassurance that that Irish temper of yours...
EJ: Has finally run its course, you know. I don't think I could take going back to jail or anything like that.
Sami: I had to get retribution out of my system... but I have. EJ, I have to tell you, I... the fact that you were honest with me means more to me than anything. It means... that you want to make this work.
EJ: How did somebody like me... ever end up being so lucky... as to meet somebody like you?
Sami: I have no idea. [Chuckles] Mmm.
Daniel: Wow. It's, uh, quite a day.
Marlena: Is he all right?
Daniel: He's good. He's good. He--he knew me too, so...
Marlena: Oh, thank God.
Daniel: But we all need to understand that these interactions, though positive, are really exhausting on him. So he's just getting a little rest right now.
Marlena: Well, there's no chance he'll slip back into the coma, is there?
Daniel: Marlena, he is out of the coma. He is just resting. We'll get answers to all of our questions, but probably not today.
Marlena: May I just go sit with him?
Daniel: Uh, sure, sure. But I'm limiting his visitors to just the two of you. I know I can trust both of you to let him get the sleep he needs to recover.
Marlena: Thank you... for everything.
Daniel: Okay, please, please don't thank me. I did a job, that's all. I am just--I am so relieved for you... for your whole family. Okay.
Brady: Hey, hey, listen, did, uh--did dad say anything else when you were in there?
Daniel: [Exhales deeply] No. No, I wouldn't let him if he tried. But, uh, Brady, let me repeat... you need to be patient.
Brady: I know. I know, but there's just-- there's a lot I want to say to him. I got to tell him I'm sorry about what I did. I need to say that to him.
Daniel: [Sighs] You know what, Brady? That--that is something you cannot do. Here, come on. Let's go to my office. Come on. Come on.
Kristen: When John wakes up, he's going to have some very interesting tales to tell.
Stefano: John black? Interesting? [Laughs] That must have been some blow to the head.
Kristen: What he says could profoundly change how Brady feels about everything.
Stefano: Look, how many times do I have to tell you to stay in the moment, right, okay? The best laid priests-- no, no, no, I mean "plans," can go wrong.
Kristen: It's so much fun talking to you, father.
Stefano: [Chuckles] As a matter of fact, I just sent you something on your phone to remind you to never, never overestimate your position.
Kristen: Could you please just stop lecturing me? Oh, my God.
Hope: Marlena and the doctors are cautiously optimistic.
Caroline: Oh, that's great. Oh, thank you so much for coming in person to tell me the news.
Hope: It's nice to finally have good news for a change.
Caroline: That's--that's not the only news, is it? It's not the only reason you dropped by.
Hope: You've always known me so well.
Caroline: Is it about Bo?
Hope: This is, yes. It is... about Bo.
Chad: I'm just... not really sure I want to share my feelings in print.
Will: I get that. And I have an out. If you don't want me to write the article, I won't. But you should know that no matter what, this story is going to be written, as my editor said, by someone who will... not work as hard to protect you.
Chad: [Chuckles] So I don't really have a choice in the matter? But you do. So the question is-- do you want to write the article? I mean, I'm pretty sure there were people who were less than thrilled with the article, your journalistic debut.
Will: One or two.
Chad: And your second feature on a DiMera... maybe you should write something a little less close to home.
EJ: Wow. Who knew full disclosure could be such a turn-on?
Sami: [Laughs] Yeah.
Sami: Ha. God.
Sami: I was just thinking about how most couples, when they go through tough times and then they find their way back to each other, how their family is really happy for them.
EJ: You don't think that our rapprochement is going to be greeted with universal celebration?
Sami: If by "celebration" you mean everybody doing everything they can to try and tear us apart.
EJ: [Sighs] Well, it's just you and me against the world. That's how I like it.
Sami: Me too. But there is one person we're going to have to deal with. I mean... how are we going to tell your father?
Stefano: Does that bring back memories?
Kristen: You know, honestly, isn't it enough that I see her in my nightmares--that horrible creature you found?
Stefano: Mm-hmm. That horrible creature undid both of us.
Kristen: I don't care about Susan. I don't care about her weird obsession with John. All I care about is Brady, okay? That's who I'm focusing on, and I want to know what's going on with him. Good-bye.
Daniel: Medically, we need to let John set the pace. Given his disorientation, it's a very confusing time for him. We can't barrage him with questions or details.
Brady: All right.
Daniel: John will talk, in his own time. But I need you to promise me that you are not going to lead the conversation or put something into his head that isn't there.
Brady: I'll do whatever you tell me to do. I promise you that.
Daniel: Thank you. All right, I need to go. Joanna is dropping Parker off today.
Brady: You told Marlena that he won't slip back into a coma. Does that mean the drug worked?
Daniel: Well, it would, uh-- it would seem that way.
Brady: It's crazy. I mean, there are--there are going to be so many people who are going to be so happy to hear about that.
Marlena: What are you doing here?
Theresa: Uh, I-I work here. And also, I-I heard the good news. John's awake, right?
Marlena: Yes, he's, uh, out of the coma.
Theresa: Well, I'm just thrilled.
Marlena: Funny--you don't look thrilled. You look a little scared.
Chad: So... you think that I have a better shot at a "fair article" if you write it.
Will: You're sonny's partner and, I hope, my friend. Yes, I would try to be fair and accurate.
Chad: And it would be good for your career, right?
Will: Yes, it would be good for my career.
Chad: So... that's what you get out of it. What do I get out of it... a little payback?
Will: If that's what you're looking for, then I'd go with someone else. I've already hurt Abigail, and I won't do anything else to cause damage. I've already done enough of that.
Chad: Okay, so you have to protect Abigail. What about EJ? Do you have to protect him too?
Will: Well... if I'm quoting you, then they're your words, not mine.
Chad: My words... in print. [Smacks lips] I've got some thinking to do. I'll get back to you.
EJ: Number one, as I have told you many times, you're the mother of his grandchildren. That means a lot. And two, what you did was motivated by... anger, revenge. On a certain level, those are qualities that he admires and respects.
Sami: I think we should stick with the family thing. You know, your grandkids would be really upset if their Nonno killed--rubbed out their--their mommy.
EJ: He knows that. He does. Look, it's not going to be easy. I'm sure when he comes back, he's going to be more than a little bit angry with you, but with time, he'll be fine. He'll forgive you. Kate, on the other hand...
EJ: Is in-- one second.
EJ: Oh, it's Harold. I mean, if he's calling us, I suppose it must be important. Yes, Harold? Really? I think you should release the dogs. It's your mother--she's coming.
Sami: What? Stop it.
EJ: [Laughing] I'm joking, don't release the dogs.
Sami: Oh, my God, I have to get dressed.
EJ: Hold on one second. She called. She's going to be here in a minute.
Sami: Oh, my God. All right, well, let's get dressed. Tell him--
EJ: Hold on one second. Harold, why don't you just send her right up?
Sami: Harold, ignore him. Stop it.
EJ: He's not there.
Sami: [Sighs] She probably talked to my dad, and she's coming here to try to convince me what a huge mistake I am making.
EJ: She might surprise you.
Sami: I doubt it. You know what? It doesn't matter... because I am the only one who gets to decide who I love.
Caroline: You heard something?
Hope: No, I haven't heard anything.
Caroline: Oh, is it something I've forgotten?
Hope: No, no, nothing-- nothing's happened, and... nothing's changed. We still don't know where Bo is or what he's doing or... when he's coming back, if he's coming back.
Caroline: Well, say it, would you, please? Just say whatever you came here to say.
Hope: That I love you... that you've always made me feel a part of Bo's family.
Caroline: But you are.
Hope: Caroline... I've prayed every day since Bo left that he would come back to me and to Ciara, to our life together. [Sighs] Marlena was talking about faith today. I've lost faith. I don't believe he's coming home. I really don't believe that he's, um... I really don't believe that's going to happen.
Caroline: [Scoffs] So I've decided that--
Caroline: No, don't-- no, stop. Would you please just stop there?
[Knock at door]
Daniel: I missed you so... much.
Kristen: I need to talk to you.
Kristen: That was a lot easier than I thought it would be. [Sighs] Okay, so I know John's waking up, okay? So will you please tell me what's going on? Oh, come on. I will beg if I have to.
Daniel: [Chuckles] No, no need. It'll all be public knowledge soon. Yeah, John did wake up. He recognized Brady and Marlena and, uh--and me.
Kristen: That's wonderful.
Daniel: Yeah, we still don't know the extent of the trauma, how well or how quickly he's going to recover. It's still a bit of a--bit of a process.
Kristen: Yeah, but the process has begun, hasn't it?
Daniel: Mm-hmm, yeah.
Kristen: Thank you for sharing, Daniel.
Daniel: Well, it was calculated on my part. I figured if I did you this courtesy, then maybe you can do me one.
Kristen: Uh-huh. I know what you want.
Kristen: You want me to help you nail Theresa because you know I'm right. You know she's the one that hit John over the head. She's the one that put him in a coma.
Theresa: Well, I'm--I'm certainly not scared. But I-I am concerned. I just don't want Brady to have to relive that horrible night all over again. I mean, he's already so upset about what happened to his father.
Marlena: Well, I think Brady is grateful that his father's improving. Not especially concerned about himself right now.
Theresa: Well, no, no, that's not what I meant. I mean, I'm just really worried about Brady a-and John too. I mean, I'm not a doctor, but I can't really see how going over what happened that night could be good for John either. Maybe we should just all count our blessings, you know?
Marlena: Mm. Oh.
Brady: I was just talking with Daniel earlier.
Marlena: Uh, I-I was going to head out and tell Sami the good news. Would you mind just--
Brady: Would I--sitting with dad? No, that's where I want to be. In case he wakes up, he wants to talk or something, I want to be there. I'll call you if anything happens.
Marlena: Perfect. Thanks.
Brady: You bet.
Theresa: Hey, Brady.
Brady: Hi. Sorry. I am preoccupied.
Theresa: Yeah, I can see that, and I'm worried about you. Look, I know you, and I know that you can't wait to talk to your father, but... I also know that you probably shouldn't listen to anything he has to say.
Daniel: I do not know what Theresa did. I don't know if she did or didn't do anything that night.
Kristen: You've got to be kidding me. You know that you have suspicions.
Daniel: And John--maybe he'll tell us one day, maybe he won't. But, ah, no, it's really not-- not about Theresa. Come. Now... I want you to just take a few minutes and really listen to what I'm going to suggest... 'cause I want you to try to hear what I'm saying, not just with your mind, but with your heart. You leave Brady alone.
Kristen: [Laughs] Brady's a big boy.
Daniel: Is he?
Kristen: Yeah. He can take care of himself.
Daniel: Good work on that "really listening" part, yeah, 'cause, see, I wasn't finished there. So what I'm asking you is to leave Brady alone, not just for his sake... but for yours. Your kids get used to sweaty odors in their room.
Chad: Expensive. Yeah, I've been in that store. Can't get out of there with one of those bags for less than 10 grand.
EJ: It's the thought that counts.
Chad: Wait. So is that a bribe to get Sami to take you back or a payoff because she already has?
Marlena: There you are.
Sami: Hi, mom.
Marlena: I've been calling you.
Sami: Oh, that looks way worse than you said on the phone.
Marlena: [Chuckles] It's fine.
Sami: Are you okay?
Marlena: I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm fine.
Sami: EJ left so that you can tell me off--I mean, talk to me in private.
Marlena: Well, I'm not here to tell you off. I'm not here to talk about you and EJ. I'm here to tell you that John is awake.
Sami: Wait. What?
Marlena: [Laughing] He's awake.
Sami: Mom! That's amazing!
Marlena: I know, I know, I know. I couldn't wait to tell you. [Laughs]
Theresa: I'm just worried that you dad's going to make you feel bad about what happened that night.
Brady: Theresa, I... bashed his head in with a poker while I was drunk and high. You don't think I should feel bad about that?
Theresa: Well... I-I mean, it wasn't your fault. You were acting in self-defense. But I mean, John could be delusional and say all kinds of crazy things.
Brady: Well, if that is the case, then he's going to need me. But more likely, if he remembers anything, I'm going to have to face him Theresa, and I'm going to have to own it.
Theresa: Yeah, but you already have owned what you did, and I-I mean... it's not your fault that he slept through it.
Brady: Hold on. Hold on. It was my fault. He didn't choose to be in a coma, okay? I did that to him. See, this is exactly what I'm talking about, Brady. I mean, you feel so guilty, and you're acting like everything that happened that night is all your fault and it's only your fault. You seem to skip over how he acted.
Brady: I don't remember how he acted. I don't--'cause I was out of it.
Theresa: Uh, but, well, I mean, are you just going to take everything that he says at face value? I mean, what if--what if he-- he tries to paint a different picture about what happened that night?
Brady: Why would he do that?
Theresa: I don't know. Maybe his brain's scrambled or something or...
Brady: Or-- or?
Theresa: Or, Brady, what if he wants to make somebody else pay for his mistake?
Brady: Why would he do that?
Theresa: I don't know. I mean, he--he--maybe--he was just so angry that night, and--and what if he tries to shade things?
Brady: What do you mean "shade things"? Are you--are you saying that he would lie?
Theresa: I don't know. I'm just really worried about what's going to happen.
Brady: Okay, let me tell you what's not going to happen. He is not going to lie. There are so many times, Theresa, where I... have mistaken what he was saying or what he was doing. I thought he was trying to hurt me. I couldn't have been more wrong about it. That man loves me. My father loves me. And whatever he has to say to me in there... I'm going to deal with it.
Kristen: Well, I'm sure that it, uh--it keeps you up at night worrying about my welfare.
Daniel: Uh, you know, I am worried about Brady. I think it's best for him for you to leave, and I think your staying here would be really, really bad for you.
Kristen: Mm, again, your concern is so touching.
Daniel: All right, look, you know that little road trip back to Salem that we took in the back of that truck?
Daniel: Yeah. See, I saw a part of you that really missed that time with Brady. I saw that you really did love him. Still do?
Kristen: I still do.
Daniel: Yeah? You wanted to do the right thing for him. So I'm appealing to that part of you that's...
Kristen: What--human? Is that what you're trying to find--that crazy word "human"?
Daniel: Something like that-- not quite. First of all, no matter what you believe about you and Brady, ain't going to happen, ever. So, no matter what you do, you're never going to get back with Brady.
Kristen: Okay. I can't accept that.
Daniel: Not really your call. Kristen... you are very beautiful. You're very smart. Your life isn't over. It's far from over. I think there's someone else... that you can love... not someone who is--is the son of an ex-lover, not someone who is a means to an end, not someone who you feel the need to manipulate. So, for Brady's sake, but really... for your own... move on.
Kristen: Oh, so... what I'm hearing is that you think that instead of a boy, that I need, um... I need a man, right? Maybe someone that can... handle me? I had no idea that you were so interested, Dr. Jonas. I'm only in my 60'S.
Caroline: So you came here... to tell me you can't do it anymore. You can't... you can't wait for Bo.
Hope: Not like this. He's deserted me. Caroline... I can't not know what my life is.
Caroline: So it means...?
Hope: I'm filing for divorce, Caroline.
EJ: My relationship with Samantha is none of your concern.
Chad: Come on, bro, we're family. Everything you do is my concern. Oh, by the way, high marks on some world-class philandering. Not many guys could do it with the brother's girlfriend, the wife's maid of honor, get it immortalized in print, and still get the wife back. So you must be really good in... negotiations.
EJ: If you wish to keep living in that house, I suggest you start treating Samantha and myself with a little bit more respect.
Chad: Oh, well, see, don't you know that you can't command respect? You have to earn it.
EJ: It's good to have you back, Chad. It's nice to see you've grown up finally.
[Cell phone ringing]
Will: So... what's up?
Chad: That article you wanted to write? Let's do it.
Will: Are you sure?
Sami: I just can't take it. I am so happy for you and--and for John.
Marlena: I know. I knew you would be, but... why did EJ have to leave us alone for that?
Sami: Oh, uh, no, not that. I just-- well, we thought that daddy would have talked to you.
Marlena: Well, I spoke to him, but he just said that you and EJ were getting closer again.
Sami: Yeah. Well, I mean, I thought you would rush right over here to tell me that I was being an idiot.
Marlena: Sami... what you are is a grown-up. And if you decide that EJ is what you want and he's going to make you happy, you're deciding that with your eyes wide open. And all I have ever wanted for you in your whole life... is for you to be utterly happy.
Sami: Well, thank you... mom, 'cause... I am. [Sniffles] [Crying] Thank you, mom.
Marlena: Oh, honey, I'm so glad. I'm so glad.
Daniel: Kristen... in your wildest dreams.
Kristen: [Laughs] Actually, in your wildest dreams. Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not going anywhere.
Kristen: So you can go ahead and worry about Brady. I will worry about me. Theresa... she can just worry... a lot.
Brady: [Scoffs] You're hands are like ice. I'm going to get you another blanket. I'll be right back.
Theresa: [Exhales shakily] Well... it's now or never. [Exhales deeply]
