Sonny: That was pretty smart. I was pretty smart, wasn't I, guys?
Sonny: Hiring someone with a killer jump shot?
Lucas: Yeah, real smart. Yeah.
Sonny: You guys happen to notice that he never misses when he shoots from the corner?
Rafe: Oh, I did, yeah. That was amazing by the way-- okay, we got it. You won. Enough.
Ben: Hey, take pity on 'em. They're old.
Lucas: What'd you say?
Sonny: No, you are, you are. I think maybe you should take up ping pong.
Lucas: Ping pong. That's actually a tough sport. It's table tennis overseas.
Lucas: Boy, you were letting Rafe have it underneath the basket with those elbows.
Ben: We all play to win, right?
Lucas: Yeah, I guess so. Hey listen, before they come back there's something I want to ask you.
Lucas: It's about your sister.
Jeremiah: I don't mean any harm. I just want to talk to you.
Chad: Didn't you hear the lady? She doesn't want to talk to you.
Jeremiah: Mind you own business, son. Keep walking.
Chad: I'm not your son. And I'm not going anywhere.
Clyde: That help you gave me? That connection? That worked out real well.
Clyde: Seems only right to give you a proper thank you.
Kate: Oh, no. That's not necessary.
Clyde: Well I think it is. So I'm going to buy you some lunch. For starters.
Kate: First, I am totally swamped at work today so I will most likely be having my lunch at my desk. Um, but more importantly, I think somehow I have given you the wrong idea.
Clyde: Well, you're a lady executive and I'm just a guy from the sticks, but I think people are the same everywhere. And women are women.
Kate: What do you mean by that?
Clyde: That I don't believe for one second I got the wrong idea.
Jennifer: JJ left early, but he didn't even get back before I went to bed last night.
Abigail: Yeah, I didn't see him either.
Jennifer: You okay?
Abigail: Yeah, I guess it kinda depends on your definition of okay.
Abigail: Chad is back.
Roman: What the hell? Sami, are you out of your mind?
Will: Game is over, don't bother coming. Sorry. So much for that idea.
[Knocking on door]
Zoe: You headed out to the gym or something?
Will: Actually, I was gonna go play a pickup basketball game but I just found out I missed it.
Will: I didn't know magazine editors made house calls.
Zoe: Well they do when they need a signed contract. Where is it?
Will: What's the rush?
Zoe: I have a new assignment for you. It's a profile piece.
Will: Who's the subject?
Zoe: Chad DiMera.
Jeremiah: Just who the hell do you think you are?
Chad: Well, my friends call me Chad--
Jeremiah: What kinda name is that?
Chad: But you can call me Mr. DiMera. I'm the guy who's telling you: Leave this girl alone.
Jeremiah: You got the wrong idea. Her and I are old friends. We go way back, don't we Tammy sue? I just wanted to say hello.
Chad: And now you have.
Jeremiah: You take care, now.
Chad: I hope I didn't barge in. I just did not like the way that guy was talking to you.
Jordan: I didn't like it, either. Thank you.
Chad: I remember you. We haven't been introduced, but I thought your name was Jordan.
Sonny: Will and I took Ari to see Gabi yesterday.
Rafe: Oh, thanks, man. Bet that meant the world to her.
Sonny: Got some pictures.
Sonny: Uh-huh, see.
Rafe: Aw. See. I don't know how she does it--she still manages to smile, even when she's going through hell. God, I worry about her.
Sonny: Person she's worried about is you.
Ben: Want to talk about Jordan? What about her?
Lucas: Well, it's just, uh, I heard Jordan and Rafe broke up.
Lucas: Yeah, it's too bad because, you know, they're both really great people and I thought it would work out between them.
Lucas: Do you think it still could?
Ben: What's this about? Are you asking me if you can take my sister out?
Kate: Well, um, you may be very adept at reading women, but if you are sensing any interest coming from me, then I think you may want to have your meter checked.
Clyde: Oh, if I've given you offense, I'm so sorry.
Kate: Offense. No, no, don't be silly. Women just adore the phrase, "women are women." We respond so well to that.
Clyde: Oh. Well-- what I was trying to say is that, where I'm from you learn, pretty early on, that you can't always trust everything that comes out of a person's mouth.
Kate: Even so, don't you think you oughta have some respect for it?
Clyde: Oh, yes ma'am. But what I trust is what I see in their eyes. Now, maybe the question here isn't whether or not you're interested, maybe the question is, um--
Clyde: Well, you say you're so swamped at work that you can't have lunch with me. But Kate, you run a cosmetics company, right? You and I both know that if you go out to lunch, women everywhere certainly aren't gonna run out of lipstick. Right? So it makes me wonder, is there some other reason you're too afraid to share a simple meal with me?
Roman: You know what, Sami, people told me that maybe you were over the top, going after him the way you did when you found out he cheated on you. You know what I said? "No." I said I thought you got it about right. I said I thought you had finally figured out who you got involved with.
EJ: She's involved with a man who loves her, roman, and who has always loved her.
Roman: And you show your love by sleeping with another woman. I don't even want to think what you'd do if you actually hated my daughter. Sami, please, tell me you are not this desperate.
Will: We have been over this.
Zoe: And I agreed not to ask you to write about your family. Did you turn into a DiMera when I wasn't looking?
Will: My mother is married to Chad's brother.
Zoe: Yeah, legally. That doesn't make him family.
Will: Oh, you are splitting hairs. Besides, he is my husband's business partner.
Zoe: The man is a DiMera. Our readership loves to read about them. Our sales numbers prove it.
Will: Even so, Chad, he has no power at DiMera enterprises.
Zoe: Ah, but his brother--the brother that he took a bullet for--slept with his ex. He grew up thinking that he was the son of a judge and the D.A. Then he finds out that he is the biological son of Stefano DiMera and his mother died in a tragic accident. Tell me that that's not a cover story.
Will: Even so, I have not spoken to Chad since he left. He's thousands of miles away.
Zoe: Not anymore. He's back.
Jennifer: Chad is back? How do you know that, did someone tell you?
Abigail: I wish. I was at the square, I was waiting Ben, and then Chad just walked by.
Jennifer: How did that go?
Abigail: It was good, at first, actually, but he was just biding his time.
Jennifer: He'd read the article?
Abigail: Yep. Sami sent it to him.
Jennifer: Is there no end to what that woman will do?
Abigail: I don't know. But Chad knows all about EJ and me, now. He said there's no one I could've picked that would've hurt him more.
Jordan: I grew up being Tammy sue but I never really liked my name.
Chad: Jordan suits you.
Chad: So, did you grow up in the south, like that guy?
Jordan: We lived in the same town, but I managed to lose my accent when I left.
Chad: And what's he doin' here?
Jordan: I didn't ask. How are you doing?
Jordan: I mean, the night we saw each other at the club it was right before you got shot. It must've been hard to come back here.
Chad: Sort of. Yeah, but I'm back now. How's Rafe?
Jordan: Fully recovered.
Chad: Oh, that's great.
Jordan: Yeah, it is.
Chad: And weren't you and he--
Jordan: Uh, yeah-- but not anymore.
Chad: Really? Well, I thought he was smarter than that.
Rafe: Well, I'll make sure that Gabi knows that she doesn't have to worry about me. I'm just fine.
Sonny: She blames herself for what happened with you and Jordan.
Rafe: What? No, that's ridiculous. And I will set her straight. There's only one guy who's responsible for screwing things up between Jordan and me. You're looking at him.
Lucas: You know, if I was interested in taking your sister out, I'd probably ask her myself. I was just hoping to hear she was okay.
Ben: Seems like you're hoping for something else.
Lucas: No. No, I've been the rebound guy a few times in my life, um, I don't want to be that guy again.
Roman: See, I didn't come here to have a scene with you, I came to talk to my daughter about something else.
EJ: So next time, here's a thought: Call before you come over, and then you won't have to see things you don't wish to see.
Sami: Okay, uh, EJ, hey, um, how 'bout we let me talk to my dad for a little bit. Just the two of us--okay.
EJ: Okay. If you need me for anything I'll be back here in an instant.
Sami: All right, dad, let me have it.
Will: Chad's back? You know that for sure?
Zoe: One of my stringers was on his flight last night.
Will: And you want to use what he's been through to sell magazines.
Zoe: You catch on quick.
Will: The guy is my friend.
Zoe: Oh come on, you just said you haven't talked to him since he left. That was like a year ago. Wasn't Chad DiMera the guy who outed you at your own wedding?
Will: You should run that through a fact-checker, because that is no where near being accurate.
Zoe: Right. He said that the groom wasn't the father of the bride's baby, you were. Which is even better. Our readers will eat that up.
Will: Oh, so I should just be okay with pimping out my personal life for the magazine.
Zoe: Isn't that what you did when you wrote about your mother?
Will: I learned from my mistake.
Zoe: Okay. Fine. This is a great story, but if you have a problem with writing it, then I'll give you a pass.
Will: That's what my deal is.
Zoe: But, there is going to be an article about Chad, whether you like it or not, and I have a whole stable of writers who are dying for an assignment like this. And maybe they won't work as hard to protect Chad as you would. And, unlike them, you have it in your contract that you approve any changes to any article you write. So, if I decide to do something like--
Will: Reveal Abigail's name?
Zoe: Exactly. You can turn around and sue me and end up owning the whole magazine. So, think about what'll be best for your friend Chad. Just don't take too long.
Kate: Clyde, there aren't many things that I'm afraid of.
Clyde: Which is just one more thing to like about you.
Kate: Okay. Look, we are both very busy people and, no offense, but don't you think this is really just a waste of precious time.
Clyde: Well, you did find time to come all the way to poplar bluff to look me up.
Kate: Because I had good reason.
Clyde: Because you were so concerned about Tammy sue and your friend, Rafe.
Clyde: So let me ask you this, is he the reason you won't have lunch with me?
Rafe: It's just clear that you broke the three second rule, I definitely should've gotten some free throws.
Sonny: You pitched a tent in the key.
Lucas: He was camping out in the key all day long.
Ben: You gotta pay a fee.
Lucas: We'd a killed you guys.
Ben: Are you kidding me?
Rafe: Talk about--
Sonny: Hey, hey, let's let 'em think that if it's gonna make 'em feel better.
Rafe: Well it's the truth, that's all.
Sonny: All right, I'm gonna get going.
Lucas: Please, don't go.
Ben: Me too.
Sonny: Now we'll let the losers pay. It's been fun.
Lucas: Get out while you can. Next time you're mine, no freebies.
Rafe: Hey Ben, hold on a second. I'm pretty sure that Sonny didn't tell you that I was coming. I just wanted to say that it was cool that you came and played.
Ben: No, no, he told me. You don't have to thank me. You think I'd pass up a chance to knock you on your ass again? Never. Never.
Rafe: That's good, that's silly-- alright, buddy, I gotta get going.
Lucas: What's going on with you and Ben? Guy played like you had a target on your back or something.
Rafe: Well, you gotta respect a guy that sticks up for his sister. You should probably get the bill, you threw up quite a few bricks.
Lucas: Yeah, yeah, thanks. Yeah, take that with you.
Rafe: See ya, bud.
Lucas: All right.
Rafe: Next time.
Lucas: All right.
Jordan: Rafe didn't do anything stupid. He and I-- well, it just didn't work out.
Jordan: Well, hey, I gotta run. I'm meeting someone for lunch.
Chad: Enjoy. Uh, maybe I'll see you around.
Jordan: And thanks again for coming to my rescue. It was very gallant.
Chad: Wow, gallant. I haven't been called that in a while.
Jennifer: So Chad must've been pretty angry.
Abigail: Oh, yeah, he was--he was angry, all right.
Jennifer: Right, the guy who lies about having a brain tumor to get rid of the competition is up in arms--
Abigail: EJ's his brother--
Jennifer: How do you--please! As much as I wish that that whole affair hadn't happened, why should it matter to him? You broke it off with Chad a year ago, you can see whoever you want. Did he come back here to make you feel guilty?
Abigail: Well, he shouldn't have even bothered, I already feel guilty enough as it is.
Jennifer: Honey, don't say that.
Abigail: Mom, I've slept with two men in my whole life, and they're brothers.
Jennifer: Listen to me, you owe Chad nothing. He used you and he lied about something so important.
Abigail: I know, and I gave him hell for that. I was so self-righteous about what Chad did to me. And then slept with EJ. The guy who helped him pull it off.
Roman: Well, I didn't come here to yell at you. I came here because I love you. They told me how scared you were that Stefano might find another way to come back to town now. Let me ask you this, has he made any specific threats to you, something I can act on?
Sami: Dad, you know Stefano, he's smarter than that. God, I can't believe my ego. That I thought I could bring Stefano DiMera down with income tax evasion.
Roman: Well, that is how they got al Capone.
Sami: Right, in the '30s. Dad, we humiliated him, and now it's public knowledge.
Roman: Yeah, and Stefano is all about his image--no doubt about that. And to have two women bring him down, whew! That has got to hurt poor, old Stefano. As for me, I am very proud of both of you, and I won't forget that, as long as I live.
Sami: [Laughing] Thanks, dad. Unfortunately, he's not going to forget it, either.
Roman: Well let me ask you this. If you're scared, why are you all over the guy who was your other prime target? Isn't that playing right into EJ's hands?
Kate: Rafe and I are just friends, really good friends.
Clyde: Well, I'm glad to be set straight. But if you're not pining away for him, there ought to be somebody else. Beautiful woman like you, that's criminal if you ask me. Why isn't there someone in your life?
Kate: That's so nice of you to say that. But did it ever occur to you that maybe I'm just not looking?
Clyde: Oh, I owe you an apology.
Kate: No, not necessary.
Clyde: And I'm gonna make it up to you over dinner.
Kate: Clyde, no.
Clyde: You said you weren't scared to share a meal with me.
Kate: Well, I'm not.
Clyde: Lunch is out 'cause you're too busy, that leaves dinner.
Kate: No, I just don't think--
Clyde: It'll be painless, I promise. You might even get a laugh or two. Come on, what are you so scared about? Oh, make me so happy. I'll give you a holler as to when and where.
Kate: I did not agree to that.
Sami: Daddy, our entire family has yelled at me that I am overreacting about what happened.
Roman: You always overreact, Sami, that's what you do. So don't under-react now. Okay? Now look, sweetheart, I know you're scared, but-- wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. EJ is telling you he'll protect you from Stefano, isn't he. And you believe that.
Sami: Because it's true. He will. He can, but that's not why-- and it's not why I married him.
Roman: Well, you do remember that your mom and I didn't come to your wedding, right?
Sami: I know, but it's because you hate him.
Roman: Yeah, 'cause we'll never forget the things he's done and we know he'll never change. But when your mom and I heard what you did after you found out he cheated on you, we thought that you had finally figured that out too.
Sami: Mom has some nerve, pointing the finger at EJ, after what she did you.
Jennifer: Does Ben know about you and Chad?
Abigail: Well he does now.
Jennifer: Well I don't think it's going to be a problem because he seems like a really good guy.
Abigail: He is. Yeah, he is a really good guy. And it's nice to be with someone who's uncomplicated.
Clyde: Hey, whatcha doin'?
Ben: Getting ready for the lunch crowd.
Clyde: Looks like we can talk privately now, huh?
Ben: About what?
Clyde: This. Open it. Please.
Chad: How'd you know where to--
EJ: You know, you and I need to get a couple of things straight. Now.
Zoe: I don't understand what the problem is. Will you please just tell him ZoŽ browning called? Yes. He is. Okay, well then just tell him to return the call as soon as he is. No, no, no, no, no, no. No, no, I need you to make it happen. I am on a deadline. Thank you.
Lucas: Zoe browning?
Zoe: What is it?
Lucas: I don't know, I was just wondering how you sleep at night.
Zoe: What is your problem?
Lucas: My problem is what you did to my son, that's my problem.
Zoe: Who's your son?
Lucas: Will Horton. Ring a bell? Nice guy--great guy, actually. Talented writer, full of integrity, and you used him to sell your lousy magazine, didn't you? Well thank God he doesn't work for you anymore. Thank God! Hello, are you even listening to me right now?
Lucas: Finally what? What is this?
Zoe: Just read it.
Roman: We were talking about EJ, not your mother.
Sami: We are talking about cheating. I wanna hear you tell me what you think the difference is, between what mom did to you and what EJ did to me.
Roman: So you expect me to still go after your mom, after all these years, about that?
Sami: I'm just saying, it still hurts.
Roman: That was a long time-- yes. But I let it go. Okay? Besides, this is a different situation.
Sami: You're right. Yes, I agree, it's a different situation. Mom was in love with john. EJ didn't love Abby. He still loves me. And I know it still hurts. But dad, let's go back there, right? If we went back to 1993 and mom had done this horrible thing to you and it hurt you. But she came back and she said she was wrong and she said she didn't love john, she loved you instead. And she wanted to get back together with you. Are you seriously gonna tell me that you wouldn't have taken her back, that you wouldn't have wanted to be a family with your children? Are you gonna look me in the eye and tell me that you wouldn't have taken her back?
Roman: Under those circumstances, yes! I would have. In a minute--no doubt about it. Okay? You happy now?
Ben: What's all this money for? Bribe?
Clyde: It's your sisters. It's the money she offered me to leave town.
Ben: It's Jordan's life savings.
Clyde: I started feeling really bad about taking it. I knew I should've ripped up the check right then and there, but you know, a man's got his pride.
Ben: Especially if he's you.
Clyde: And mine was wounded so I cashed the check. But then I got to thinkin'. I want her to have it back. Would you give it to her?
Abigail: Hey, Jordan, I'm so sorry I'm late.
Jordan: Oh, I just got here.
Abigail: You okay?
Jordan: I just ran into someone I used to know. Someone I never expected to see again.
Abigail: I know the feeling. I ran into Chad last night. He's back in Salem.
Jordan: I know.
Abigail: You do?
Jordan: Because I just ran into him, too.
EJ: Now that you're not waving a gun in my face, let me tell you something. Chad, I am truly sorry for any hurt that I may have caused you. You had your moment, you've got your power back, that is as far as this goes.
Chad: I see. So you decide that.
EJ: I have this chance to get back something that I very foolishly lost. Now, if you do anything to prevent that from happening--brother, no brother--I'll cut you down.
Lucas: So you're the editor of Sonix, and you're taking will--
Zoe: Will is following me there, yes.
Zoe: Because I took one look at the editing staff at Sonix and decided that we needed someone who was-- how'd you put it? Uh, a good writer who had integrity.
Lucas: Yeah look, about what I said before, all right--
Zoe: About how much sleep I get.
Lucas: Yeah, about that sleep thing. I didn't mean that at all.
Zoe: You're afraid that some of the words that you said might have an impact on your son's job.
Lucas: Yeah, yeah a little bit.
Zoe: It's okay. I hired the son, that's not gonna change because the father is a horse's ass.
Lucas: A what?
Zoe: Have a great day.
Sonny: I missed you on the basketball court today.
Will: Don't give me that, the text said you had Ben sub for me.
Sonny: He's a good guy but he's no substitute for you.
Will: Come on, the guy's got major reach on me.
Sonny: Yeah, but he doesn't have your moves. Both: [Laughing]
Clyde: After the two of you left, and I found out Tammy sue took my money, too, I was plenty mad.
Ben: Yeah, I'll bet.
Clyde: And I guess I was still mad when she tried to pay me back. Then I started seeing the two of you again and it just hit me, how much I love you two. And all I want is to have you back in my life again. I know I got a lot of work to do before I can make that happen. I know that. And I'm afraid that if I go to Tammy sue now and try to give her back the money, it'll just upset her. That's why I'm asking you to do it.
Ben: And when I get there I'm just supposed to talk up how humble and sincere you were when you asked me. I'm supposed to tell her how much of a changed man you are, right?
Clyde: I don't have any control over what comes out of your mouth when you talk about me, you can say whatever you want. But if it's not too much to ask, would you please tell her I'm sorry.
Jordan: Did I say something wrong?
Abigail: I'm just confused, I don't understand why you're so upset about running into Chad. I thought you guys didn't even know each other.
Jordan: Oh, we don't. That's not who I was talking about. In fact, Chad came along at just the right time and helped me out.
Abigail: Oh, good.
Jordan: Look, I don't know anything about why the two of you broke up, but he seemed like a really nice guy, to me.
Abigail: He probably is a nice guy...today. He got something off his chest. He vented all of his hatred at me.
Sami: I'm sorry. You okay?
Roman: Yeah. Yeah. I'm okay, sure I am. Look, I know you're trying to make a point here, but come on, comparing your mother to EJ, Sami?
Sami: I wasn't doing that-- not really.
Roman: Then what, exactly, were you doing?
Sami: I guess I was just trying to say-- that you don't get to decide who you love. But I know I don't have to tell you that. I mean, you're the man who fell in love with Kate Roberts. A wise man once told me, that "when you do find true love, you better never take it for granted, 'cause you have to cherish it because it's a gift."
Roman: You know what, that wise man who told you that, he probably had way too many beers.
Sami: Uh-uh, he was sober. He's right. He's my daddy.
Chad: Okay, so, let me make sure I have this right. So I took a bullet for you, and then I almost died. And then I left town and you jumped into the sack with the woman you knew I was still in love with. Just for the hell of it. And now you want me to suck it up or you'll cut me down?
EJ: Chad, I have apologized for what happened with Abigail. And I've told you, repeatedly, how much it meant to me that you saved my life. I have this chance to bring my family back together. I saw you sidling up to Kate this morning, and I don't know what you're talking about, I don't know what you're planning, but whatever it is, I'm putting you on notice: You better stop it. Or you will regret it.
Chad: Hmm. You know, I wonder what father would think of you threatening me. It might make him wonder what you'd be willing to do, how far you'd be willing to go, to get Samantha back. See, I'm kinda wondering that myself.
EJ: Well you better pray to God you don't find out.
Kate: So, what are you doing here?
Roman: Well, I was just at your house, obviously, you were not there. So-- by the way, I do like that new picture you and Sami put up where Stefano's used to be.
Kate: Oh yeah, yeah, well that was publicity's idea. Anyway, since you were at the house, did you have a chance to talk some sense into Sami about EJ?
Roman: Well, I, uh, tried. But Sami reminded me of a couple things I'd forgotten.
Kate: Like what?
Roman: For one, you can't always pick who you fall in love with.
Sonny: I still wish you could've made it to the game today.
Will: Oh, it's probably a good thing I didn't. Zoe showed up here.
Will: Uh, pick up my contract.
Sonny: She can't wait for you to put it in the mail?
Will: Well, she has another assignment for me.
Sonny: Already? That's great, what's it about?
Chad: Hey, how's it going?
Ben: Look buddy, unless you're ordering, I don't have anything to say to you.
Chad: Oh, come on, Benny.
Ben: After the way you spoke to Abigail yesterday, you can just get the hell out of here, pal.
Chad: Whew, well, is that any way to talk to your boss?
Jordan: I can't believe Chad hates you.
Abigail: You didn't see him last night.
Jordan: Would you excuse me for a second? I'll be right back.
Abigail: Wha--? Uh, okay, sure.
Jordan: Clyde! Yeah, you.
Rafe: Hey, Abigail.
Abigail: Hi, hey Rafe. How's Gabi doing? I've been thinking about her a lot.
Rafe: Well, Sonny and will took the baby to see her yesterday. Yeah, she's doing pretty well.
Abigail: Good, I'm glad.
Rafe: Yeah. Anyway, I talked to Sonny after we played some basketball. Lucas and me against Sonny and Ben.
Abigail: Oh, really.
Rafe: Yeah, evidently you're dating a pretty good player.
Abigail: Oh, am I?
Abigail: Well, I wouldn't know, he's been holding out on me.
Rafe: Oh, has he? Well-- so you here with your mom?
Abigail: Um, no, I'm here with Jordan, actually.
Abigail: Well, I was here with Jordan. She got up all of the sudden and said she'd be right back, and just kinda-- left. I don't know why.
Clyde: Hey sweetheart, I was just talking to--
Jordan: Don't sweetheart me. What the hell is Jeremiah doing in Salem?
EJ: Samantha? Your father? I'm sorry.
EJ: I'm so sorry.
