Episode #12411 ~ Sami & Kate panic when they learn of Stefano's return; Julie learns of Abigail & EJ's affair; Victor confesses to Maggie.
Provided By Suzanne
Craig: We just told a joke that's enough.
Maggie: Okay. Victor.
Victor: [Clears throat]
Maggie: Oh, no.
Victor: What, you don't like them?
Maggie: Well, you said you wanted to talk to me, and there's flowers. And you've got that puppy dog look on your face. What have you done now?
Will: Thought you were at work for the day.
Sonny: Good to see you too. I left this behind. I need it at work.
Sonny: [Sighs] Damn it, will. You were up and out of bed with Ari before I got up this morning. And you're only here now because you thought I was at work?
Will: Pretty much.
Sonny: So we didn't talk last night, you don't wanna talk today. Is this how it's gonna be? Is this how you're gonna punish me?
Jordan: I got your message.
Rafe: Oh, hi. Yeah, um, I wanted to talk to you about that job that Abigail was interested in. Well, I talked to my friend.
Jordan: Oh, great. Thank you.
Rafe: Yeah, you really shouldn't thank me because the job was already taken. I'm sorry.
Jordan: But you tried. Um, that was really nice of you.
Julie: Blessings, Kate.
Kate: Wow, thank you. I can always use blessings.
Julie: Oh, we all could.
Kate: You look lovely today.
Julie: Well, it must be the outward manifestation of my inner peace. I've been renewed.
Kate: You been renewed? Is that like in a magazine subscription?
Julie:, No, Doug and I just got back from a yoga cruise. We saw Sri Lanka and Banaras and Nepal and each other in the downward facing dog pose.
Kate: [Laughing] Oh, my God. That's a visual. Did you know that there's a new yoga place that opened down on elm? You wouldn't have to go out of town.
Julie: I got these Buddhas in bulk while we were there for the folks back home. I find having it around is very calming.
Kate: Oh, well, thank you. That's very sweet. Although I'm calm by nature. [Chuckles] What the hell is this doing here?
Sami: Oh, this one might be Johnny. Oh, my God.
EJ: What is it? What's wrong? Samantha? Samantha, is it about the children?
Sami: It's Stefano.
Abigail: No, stop, stop.
Will: I'm not punishing you.
Sonny: It sure as hell feels like you are. You're straight up avoiding me. Is there a clock on this? How long are you gonna keep this up?
Will: I really don't know.
Tad: Oh, thanks. I was looking all over for that. Will's a good writer, isn't he? Makes you feel like you're right in the room when you and Sami were plotting-- business stories are usually pretty dry.
Julie: What are you two talking about?
Tad: Oh, what a shame. Look, I gotta go. You can have that.
Julie: What am I gonna find in here?
Kate: Well, you're not going to find inner bliss. Here, keep it, you're going to need it more than I do.
Sami: Did you know about this?
EJ: I have no idea what you're talking about. All I heard you say was "Stefano."
Sami: Well, that's enough. That's more than enough. I probably said too much.
EJ: What is going on with my father? Samantha, would you please-- look, we're having a nice lunch. I thought things were really thawing between the two of us, and now you seem to be angry at me for no apparent reason.
Sami: Look, I'm sorry. I have to go! I have to take care of this.
EJ: Would you-- come on, father. Answer the bloody phone.
Ben: I did something wrong, didn't I? Abigail, I'm sorry. Did I push too hard? Look, Abigail, just tell me.
[Knocking on door]
Tad: Hey, Ben, are you in there? Sorry, I forgot I was supposed to help.
Ben: We're locked in here.
Tad: We? Well, it looks like you didn't need my help after all.
Abigail: Uh, we--I came to help, and we got locked in here accidentally.
Tad: Accidentally, yes. Right, nice move, Ben.
Ben: It wasn't a move.
Abigail: No, it was my fault. Uh, you know, now that it's here, you don't need me anymore, so I'm just gonna go.
Tad: Is everything okay with you guys?
Ben: No, I don't think so.
Rafe: Well, it's not all bad news, 'cause, uh, I really talked Abigail up. My friend said that he would keep her in mind if anything else opened up.
Jordan: [Sighs] That's great.
Jordan: She could really use a break right about now.
Rafe: Oh, yeah, I know. I know. She was just caught up in a horrible situation with a really horrible guy. I know it's been rough on her. It's been rough on a lot of people, actually.
Jordan: Other people like Sami?
Sami: Kate! Kate! Oh, damn it. I've left you many messages, Kate. Get the hell back here now.
Victor: Well, you see, it's-- it's like this. Um, I didn't set out to hurt anyone. I especially didn't set out to hurt you or your family, but that's sort of the way it ended up.
Maggie: Cut to the chase, Victor.
Victor: Well, now there's something I need to tell you, and you should hear it from me. And that is that I own truvista magazine.
Maggie: You own the magazine that ran the article on Sami, EJ, and Abigail?
Victor: Yes. I would say I'm sorry, which I am, but I know that that's not nearly enough.
Sonny: I'm willing to admit that I made a mistake. I know that you didn't like that I went behind your back and got you a job. But in a relationship and in a marriage, you talk things through. You don't avoid the subject. You don't run away.
Will: I was not running away.
Sonny: You just think it's my fault that everything in your life sucks right now.
Will: Not everything. I have a job that I love, and I have Ari.
Sonny: And me. You have me, will. (Vo) if you have type 2 diabetes,
Will: I know I have you.
Sonny: You're not acting like you do.
Will: Okay, you wanna talk? If I talk, will you listen?
Sonny: Anything to get past this.
Will: I know that you're sorry for what happened. And I know that you thought you were only trying to help.
Sonny: You say you know, but it doesn't seem to change anything.
Will: You don't understand. You just--
Sonny: Well, then make me. Make me understand, will.
Will: Do you remember when you first came back to Salem? 'Cause I sure do. You breezed into town, just so self-assured, so self-confident. And why shouldn't you be? The things you've done in your life--you traveled the world. You run a business. Hell, you even climbed k2. Can you imagine what it was like for me to meet someone like that?
Sonny: That is crazy. Look at the way you write. I could never do that.
Will: Will you let me finish? You did all of those things on your own with nobody's help. Look at me. I couldn't even come out of the closet without screwing that up.
Rafe: No, I wasn't talking about Sami. I was talking about Jennifer, JJ, their whole family. They've all been caught up in the ugliness. Yes, Sami has too, but I'm not losing sleep over that. She's always had a real gift for taking a bad situation and making it worse.
Jordan: Don't I know that? Well, look, I'm sorry I brought her up. This is about Abigail, and I'm going to tell her that you tried to help and that she has people in her corner.
Rafe: Yeah, yeah, okay.
Jordan: You know, everything that you told me, you could've just texted me. Why didn't you?
Rafe: You really don't know? It was just an excuse to see you.
Jordan: Hey, I really gotta get going. Thank you.
Rafe: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Clyde: Sure is nice to see you and Jordan starting to work things out.
Tad: Hey, have you noticed, 'cause I've noticed that you haven't said a word since we left that old storage place.
Ben: Maybe I don't have anything to say.
Tad: You sure? There's not something going on with you and Abigail? All right, if you don't want to talk about it--
Ben: I don't want to talk about it.
Tad: Okay, cool. I do have to make a delivery to Sonny, so can you watch the place? Jeremy's getting off in a few.
Ben: Yeah, fine.
Ben: I'll handle things here.
Tad: Catch ya later.
Ben: Abigail, what the hell just happened?
Abigail: Oh, God. [Sighs]
Jordan: Abigail, you okay?
Maggie: You think saying "I'm sorry" isn't enough. Hmm. That proves you're not always wrong. There's more, isn't there?
Victor: Why do you say that?
Maggie: Oh, the look in your eyes. Yes, you are personally involved, right?
Victor: [Clears throat] The--the article was my idea.
Maggie: Damn it, Victor, you have done it again!
Sonny: Will, there is no right way or wrong way to come out. It's so personal, and your family's so complicated.
Will: See that? You have this knee-jerk reaction to make excuses for me. But how about, instead of doing that, you just listen?
Sonny: I'm listening.
Will: Like a lot of people, I was scared. I wasn't sure of what to do. What did I do? In an effort to convince myself that I wasn't gay, I got Gabi pregnant. I didn't just sleep with her. I got her pregnant. I wasn't thinking about having a baby. I wasn't even really thinking about Gabi. I was thinking about me.
Will: No, I am a screw-up, and I have been my whole life. Drunk frat boys use protection but not me. God knows that I love Ari more than anything in the world, but I'm a screw-up. And that pregnancy never should've happened.
Sonny: Okay. So you're not perfect.
Will: Not perfect. Having your father go to prison for a crime you committed is a little bit more than not perfect. And you know--you know what I did about that? You know how I took care of all those insanely stupid mistakes? I blamed my mother. That's real manly, isn't it? It's all mommy's fault.
Sonny: Most of the time it is.
Will: No, no, Sonny. It's time I stood up and was honest with myself. You know, I really thought that I was turning it around. I'm a good father.
Sonny: You're the best.
Will: I try to be a good husband. When I got that assignment to write that piece, I thought I did this. This is because of me. I accomplished something.
Sonny: You did.
Will: You got me that job.
Sonny: Damn it, will, your skills got you the job.
Will: You and uncle Victor got me that job. And the part of me that pushed down the idea that I shouldn't take this assignment is the same part that tried to convince myself I wasn't gay because I felt so validated that they asked. Everyone hates me for writing this piece, everyone. But I held on to this. This was the one thing that I thought I got because of me, but I screwed that up also.
Sonny: No, I did.
Will: I don't want to talk anymore. I hate talking.
Sonny: Hey, will. Something came up, and I'm gonna go, but I'll be right back. We're gonna get through this. Please let us get through this. This is volume.
Victor: The truth is, I didn't really think things through.
Victor: I just saw an opportunity to stick it to Stefano and EJ--
Maggie: And you grabbed it. Damn it, Victor, these games you insist upon playing, real people get hurt-- young, vulnerable people.
Sonny: Aunt Maggie, stop. This isn't uncle Victor's fault. It's mine.
Will: What are you doing here?
Tad: These bills came for Sonny at the club, and I know he's been waiting for them.
Will: Well, Sonny's not here right now. He's probably at the club.
Tad: It's okay. I can wait.
Will: Don't you have to work?
Tad: Yeah, technically, but see, I know the boss's husband pretty well. In fact, he's my best friend, and I can tell when something's wrong and he maybe wants to talk about it, even if he's acting like he wants me to leave. Dude, what's going on?
Will: You know what's going on. Don't pretend you don't. I've been waiting for a lecture from you on that article since you walked in.
Tad: Well, then you're gonna wait for a long time, brother.
Rafe: Yeah, uh, well, listen, don't take this the wrong way, but I'm just--I'm not really comfortable talking about Jordan with her dad. You know, I mean, whether we're working things out or not, it's kind of between us.
Clyde: Yeah, I know. I know, I just saw you together, and things seemed pretty friendly, and I just want my little girl to be happy. She deserves it, you know.
Rafe: Yes, she does.
Clyde: And I made her unhappy for so long, made so many mistakes with her and Ben. It'd just be nice if she was as happy with you as Ben is with that little cutie Abigail.
Abigail: Yeah, I was just a little lost in thought. No big deal.
Jordan: Well, I am glad I bumped into you. I wanted to let you know that Rafe, he referred you for the job you were interested in.
Abigail: Oh, he did?
Jordan: I'm sorry, it was already filled. But Rafe talked you up to his friend. He said he'd keep you in mind, and he's gonna keep his ears open for anything else that pops up.
Abigail: You talked to Rafe for me.
Jordan: He's on your side. He and a lot of other people are in your corner.
Abigail: Okay, what was it like, though, I mean for you talking to him again?
Jordan: It was good. For a few minutes there, we talked like friends. And I could actually forget about all the stuff going on between us.
Sami: Oh, thank God. Where have you been? I said it was about Stefano. Did that not get your attention?
Kate: Okay, let me guess. He put out a hit on us.
Julie: EJ, wait.
EJ: Just save it, okay? I know exactly what you're going to say. I've heard it from more people than you could possibly imagine, so just spare me.
Julie: You haven't heard this.
Kate: Stefano is coming back to Salem? He can't do that because he would be arrested.
Sami: Are you so sure about that? (Announcer) are you dealing with hot flashes during menopause?
EJ: Do you really think there is anything that you can say to me that is going to make me feel worse than I already do? Samantha is hurting. Abigail is hurting. Believe me, I have ripped myself to shreds over this better than you ever could.
Julie: May I speak now? I believe you.
EJ: Excuse me?
Julie: It would be hypocritical of me to look at you and say, "there is a monster," when I know that I, in my own life, have hurt people exactly the same way you have. I'm concerned about Abigail. Of course I am. But, my dear, I've lived long enough to know these things happen. We're human beings. We stumble, pick ourselves up, walk on down the road. Perhaps we stumble again. It's a cycle. It's life.
Sami: So it seems like Stefano's really close to cutting a deal with the state. Bottom line is, he'll have to pay the back taxes, some huge fines, and then that's it. I mean, they're agreeing to drop all charges.
Kate: I cannot believe this is happening.
Sami: Yeah, well, it is. We have to deal with it. I swear to God, if Stefano comes back, you know he's going to descend on us with his old testament-style revenge.
Kate: All that information that we fed that prosecutor-- he said he was going to make his career on EJ and Stefano. [Sighs] Well, maybe he's going to make his career on not nailing EJ and Stefano.
Sami: Maybe they made him an offer her couldn't refuse.
Kate: I don't know. He just seemed so determined to prosecute them. I think we're making a mistake by second-guessing this. I think we need to get confirmation--come on.
Kate: Come on!
Sami: All right.
Rafe: Well, it's been nice talking to you, but I'm running late. I need to get to the station.
Clyde: "To protect and serve," isn't that the slogan?
Rafe: Well, it's not a slogan. It's a motto.
Clyde: Oh, right. Didn't mean any disrespect.
Rafe: See you around.
Clyde: Yeah. Hey, almost forgot. Thanks again for introducing me to ms. Roberts. She seems like a real nice lady.
Rafe: Yes, she is.
Abigail: I know you still feel pretty beat up by what Rafe did, but maybe just talking, like you did, is a good first step.
Jordan: Well, let's not make too much out of one conversation.
Jordan: How about you? Did you have fun with Ben? It looked like it when I saw you guys at the club.
Abigail: Yeah, yeah, we're great. Um, yeah, in fact, you know, I should probably tell him what a good time I had.
Jordan: You don't think he knows?
Abigail: Well, it can never hurt to say so, right?
Abigail: Thank you, Jordan, for everything. Bye.
Tad: What kind of friend would I be if I saw my buddy having a problem and piled on too, right? Best friends, we don't lecture each other, right? Or, at least, we shouldn't.
Will: But you don't think I should've written that article. I mean, no one thinks that.
Tad: You know, I didn't like seeing Abigail hurt, but, you know, who am I to say what you should or should not have done? You had your reasons, I'm sure.
Will: I thought I did at the time.
Sonny: You need to know, I came to uncle Victor about getting will the writing job.
Maggie: "The writing job"? This was an assassination.
Sonny: I'm the one who put that whole thing in motion. It was a huge mistake for many reasons. But uncle Victor just got him the job. He didn't have anything to do with the assignment that will got.
Maggie: But the article was your idea, right? And you could've taken will off the story at any time, right? And I assume you were informed by the editor who it was assigned to.
Victor: I won't lie to you. I knew it was will. And I could've taken him off the story, but I didn't. It was already in motion, and he wanted it.
Maggie: I just can't see will wanting Abigail to suffer like this.
Sonny: That's the thing--will didn't put Abigail's name in the story.
Victor: And I didn't know she was identified until the article went online and then into print. Otherwise, I would've spiked it.
Sonny: That was all Sami. She made sure the editor knew who EJ had the affair with when she was asked to comment on the article. Now, I'm not blaming Sami or anyone. This started because of me.
Victor: No, I'm to blame. It's my magazine.
Sonny: No, no, no, I should've--I should've known. I had a gut feeling that Abigail would be outed, and I just stuck my head in the sand.
Victor: Sonny, I'm not going to let you do this. I wanted this article to happen, pure and simple. If it wasn't for me, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Maggie: Stop it! Would you just please stop?
Sonny: Aunt Maggie, I am sorry, but I just want you to understand.
Maggie: [Sighs] I think I do, finally. And now I need to talk to my husband about it.
Victor: She's right, just go. And, Sonny, you got a lot of guts, kid. I'm proud of you.
Sonny: Then you're the only one.
Maggie: So... You make me so damn mad.
Victor: I know.
Maggie: I was just furious when you told me what you had done. I was going to let you have it, and I--
Maggie: And I see you with Sonny. And I see how much you love him, and I know that you just did it to help will. And then it blew up. And you wouldn't let him take the blame. I love how you love kids. And I know you'd never intentionally hurt Abigail, not in a million years.
Victor: Does that mean you're not mad at me?
Maggie: Don't push it. In the future, if you find yourself with another opportunity-- I don't know, with something that's this tempting--
Victor: I will think of the sweet, loving woman that I'm married to, and I will ask myself, "what would Maggie do?"
Maggie: I thought I told you not to push it.
Maggie: Ooh, you are so lucky that you are so damn cute.
Victor: I am the luckiest man in the world.
Maggie: You are. [Chuckles] Oh, honey.
Tad: I think you need to give it a little time. It'll settle down--it has to.
Will: Sounds like something out of a horoscope.
Tad: Nope, not from a horoscope, I got that from thinking about us. We've been best friends from-- forever. And we've had some really, really rough patches. But we got through them, right?
Will: We did. But I never did anything to you like I did to Abigail.
Julie: So this is not the end of the world. Picture doesn't do you justice. It is unfortunate that will decided to put everything into print.
EJ: I agree. Have you talked to him?
Julie: No, no, I just got back into town. I think he could use some time before I do. I imagine everybody involved could.
EJ: Well, you, um, certainly seem different.
Julie: I just got back from a wonderful trip. I needed to get away after, um, after we lost nick. I wanted answers. And this trip, it opened my eye-- the spiritual one. I think I have found a pathway to peace. Higher consciousness. Contentment. Perhaps you might try something of the sort one day.
Julie: [Chuckles] EJ, it was good to see you.
Abigail: Hi, Ben.
Ben: Hi. You here for coffee?
Abigail: No, actually, I came to talk about before.
Ben: No, there's no need. It's my fault. I came on too strong.
Abigail: No, no, that's not it at all. Don't say that, please.
Clyde: Beautiful day, isn't it? Course, as nice as it is, it doesn't hold a candle to my favorite season, which is coming up on us real soon now.
Jordan: Squirrel hunting season.
Clyde: A plate of fried squirrel smoked with some grits sounds real good to me right now.
Jordan: Makes me long for home.
Clyde: I doubt it's on the special board of the Brady pub, however.
Jordan: Well, you could put a note in the suggestion box, or better yet, you could go back to poplar bluff.
Clyde: Now, sweetheart, you really think I'd leave you and Ben now that I've finally found my beloved children? Please.
Jordan: "Beloved children," please.
Clyde: Besides, I want to stick around and see how things play out with you and Mr. Policeman.
Jordan: You were spying on us?
Clyde: He's a nice boy. Real polite. He even introduced me to this super fine lady--maybe you know her--Kate Roberts?
Sami: Look, we knew we were playing with fire--you know, dealing with Stefano. But with him out of the country, you know, we actually had him focused on other things.
Kate: Yeah, rather than us. Oh, the desk sergeant said you were in here, so--
Sami: Yeah, so we need to talk to you because we got a warning that Stefano is going to get another hearing.
Rafe: You what?
Kate: So please tell us that it's a rumor without foundation or a nightmare.
Sami: Yeah, I mean, a nightmare that we could wake up from and then have it not be true.
Rafe: I know who I need to talk to. My budget and I are good. But it wasn't always that way.
EJ: Yes, I need to know what is going on with my father. I need to know everything, and I need to know it now.
Abigail: I owe you an apology, Ben.
Abigail: Yes, I do. When I rushed off before, you must have thought that you did something wrong, and that's absolutely not the case. I'm the one who--
Ben: I don't get it.
Abigail: I know. See, the thing is, I--
Ben: You know what? It's okay, Abigail. I do get it.
Abigail: Wait, wait, Ben. Wait, hold on! [Groans]
Tad: Will, that rough patch wasn't about what you did to me. It was about what I did to you. And I was--I mean, God, I don't even like to think about how much of a jerk and stupid I was. But you got past it. You forgave me when you didn't have to. Have a little faith, dude. People-- Sonny and Abigail, they can surprise you. You surprised me.
Tad: Sonny! Those bills that you wanted are right here. I will see you two later. They say the first year's always the hardest, so--
Will: I have to go.
Sonny: No, you can't leave. Not until we get this settled. I can't stand it anymore.
Jordan: Rafe introduced you to Kate Roberts?
Clyde: Sure did, yeah. They were sitting there talking real close and friendly-like, so I ambled over to say hello. And that's when I recognized her. You know, she's famous and all. I told her it was a real pleasure to meet her, and, you know, it was. She was real sweet and down to earth, and she's a good-looking lady too, you know. But you didn't say, you know her?
Jordan: I have to go. I'm late.
Rafe: Well, it's not good news. Prosecutor that was working the case before, the one that was determined to see EJ and Stefano behind bars, he's been replaced.
Sami: Oh, great, so the DiMera fix is in.
Kate: God, first Kristen, now EJ and Stefano. What is there, a fire sale on corrupt officials?
Rafe: Well, it's not a done deal, at least not yet, okay? Yes, Stefano may not serve any jail time, but first, it has to be approved by a judge. The hearing's been set.
Kate: Okay, I really hate to ask this, but when?
Sami: Well, it's a good thing the kids are at camp.
Rafe: Well, glad to hear it, 'cause Stefano's plane could land the minute that judge's gavel comes down.
